Magistriniame darbe yra nagrinėjami švaraus opalo pralaidumo spektrai. Nustatyta, kad stop juostos padėtis priklauso nuo spindulio kritimo kampo į bandinį. Apskaičiuoti pagrindiniai parametrai: tarp-plokštuminis atstumas d, opalo sferų diametras D, bandinio lūžio rodiklis n ir opalo sferų lūžio rodiklis . Pagamintas opal-FeTTPS hibridinis darinys ir išnagrinėtas jo pralaidumas bei magnetinis cirkulinis dichroizmas. Nustatyta, kad FeTTPS stop juostos padėtis prie įvairių kampų šiek tiek skiriasi nuo švaraus opalo. Hibridinio darinio magnetinis cirkulinis dichroizmas kinta keičiant kritimo kampą ar stop juostos padėtį.
In this work transmission optics of opal photonic crystals and infiltrated with iron porphyrin was studied. Work analyses synthetic opal crystals grown by means of sedimentation from the spheres of SiO2. Samples were 0.9 mm thick, and their surfaces planes were parallel (111) to crystallographic planes. In these samples, the stop band due to Bragg reflection from the (111) plane was observed in the spectral region of 0.45-0.7 µm at angles of light incidence. Iron porphyries FeTTPS magnetic circular dichroism was also investigated. Synthetic opal crystals composed of silica spheres were infiltrated with (c=10 mM, pH=6.8) buffered phosphate solution of iron porphyrin. In optical studies the FeTPPS-impregnated opal samples were immersed in hexane solution to vary average refractive index of composite system and to control the mutual positions of the opal stop band and absorption bands of FeTPPS. FeTPPS magnetic circular dichroism spectra dependency on opal stop band position was noted. The experimental opal transmission spectra date were analyzed in which the optical response of the opal and infiltrated with iron porphyrin was calculated by using a Bragg’s law and it was found that spacing between adjacent [111] lattice planes d is 254.95 nm, opal crystal composed of silica spheres of diameter is 312 nm and average refractive index of composite system – 1.35.

Resumen

In this work, we present a new method for seismic waveform characterization, which is aimed at extracting detailed litho-stratigraphical information from seismic data. We attempt to estimate the lithological attributes from seismic data according to our parametric representation of stratigraphical horizons, where the parameter values provide us with a direct link to nature of lithological transitions. We test our method on a seismic dataset with a strong diagenetic transition (opal-A to opal-CT transition). Given some information from cutting samples of well, we use a percolation-based model to construct the elastic profile of lithological transitions. Our goal is to match parametric representation for the diagenetic transition in both real data and synthetic data given by these elastic profiles. This match may be interpreted as a well-seismic tie, which reveals lithological information about stratigraphical horizons.

Artificial opals are self-assembled face centered cubic (fcc) structures of spherically shaped beads, which interesting applications as photonic band gap materials. Inverse opals are photonic crystals consisting of fcc paced voids of a low refractive index material imbedded in a high refractive index material. Such structures has been used to enhance the photocatalytic effect of different materials and motivates further studies to improve the deposition process of the opal templates and their inversion. We state the fabrication method to design and model metal oxide inverse opals. We have successfully created alumina and alumina-titania inverse opals. With the help of simulations, we engineered inverse opals with self-assembly and atomic layer deposition.

Parallel processing can provide the huge computational resources that are required to solve todays grand challenges, at a fraction of the cost of developing sequential machines of equal power. However, even with such attractive benefits the parallel software industry is still very small compared to its sequential counterpart. This has been attributed to the lack of an accepted parallel model of computation, therefore leading to software which is architecture dependent with unpredictable performance. The Bulk Synchronous Parallel (BSP) model provides a solution to these problems and can be compared to the Von Neumann model of sequential computation. In this thesis we investigate the issues involved in providing a modular programming environment based on the BSP model. Using our results we present Opal, a BSP programming language that has been designed for parallel programming-in-the-large. While other BSP languages and libraries have been developed, none of them provide support for libraries of parallel algorithms. A library mechanism must be introduced into BSP without destroying the existing cost model. We examine such issues and show that the active library mechanism of Opal leads to algorithms which still have predictable performance. If algorithms are to retain acceptable levels of performance across a range of machines then they must be able to adapt to the architecture that they are executing on. Such adaptive algorithms require support from the programming language, an issue that has been addressed in Opal. To demonstrate the Opal language and its modular features we present a number of example algorithms. Using an Opal compiler that has been developed we show that we can accurately predict the performance of these algorithms. The thesis concludes that by using Opal it is possible to program the BSP model in a modular fashion that follows good software engineering principles. This enables large scale parallel software to be developed that is architecture independent, has predictable performance and is adaptive to the target architecture.

Wisdom of the crowds (WOC) is an old concept that started by recording and aggregating people's estimations. It is one of the useful tools that exists today and allows many estimation applications to work correctly. Moreover, Open algorithms (OPAL) is a useful platform that enables institutions and individuals to share sensitive data, and increases the privacy of the data. In addition, federated learning is a new way to build and generate machine learning models by aggregating their hyperparameters. In this thesis, I show how to combine the three different concepts to build machine learning models on top of OPAL that utilize federated learning on a network. I then extend OPAL to support this new feature and demonstrate how to build a machine learning model using small independent models.

An analytical inspection of three cars with similar parameters and layout was carried out. The mass indicators and parameters of the car and the engine were determined. The calculation of the external speed characteristics of the engine, the power balance of the car and the definition of transmission parameters. The calculation of traction-dynamic characteristics is carried out. The braking properties and fuel efficiency of the car are calculated. Considered the types of car suspensions, analyzed the suspension of the car Opel Campo, performed the calculation of the suspension. During the qualification work of the bachelor, calculations and drawings were performed in such programs as: "Compass 3D" and "Mathcad".

Introductory theoretical part of this thesis is at first focused on explanation of marketing concepts and tools, that are in praxis very closely related to the Opel Partner programme. Next theoretical part concerns european automotive market and more detailly Czech and Slovak automotive markets with greater focus on Opel brand. Practical part of this thesis is fully concerned to Opel Partner programme. At the beginning, the programme is detailly introduced and the entire proces of it's working is described. In the next parts of practical section, there is detailed sales analysis and analysis of other followed indexes of the programme. After that selected marketing activities realized for sales support are evaluated. Final part of this thesis focuses on own recommendations how to enhance effectiveness of the programme.

Resumen

This research centers on the fabrication, characterization, and engineering of inverse opal scaffolds, a novel class of three-dimensional (3D) porous scaffolds made of biocompatible and biodegradable polymers, for applications in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The unique features of an inverse opal scaffold include a highly ordered array of pores, uniform and finely tunable pore sizes, high interconnectivity, and great reproducibility. The first part of this work focuses on the fabrication and functionalization of inverse opal scaffolds based on poly(D,L-lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA), a biodegradable material approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The advantages of the PLGA inverse opal scaffolds are also demonstrated by comparing with their counterparts with spherical but non-uniform pores and poor interconnectivity. The second part of this work shows two examples where the PLGA inverse opal scaffolds were successfully used as a well-defined system to investigate the effect of pore size of a 3D porous scaffold on the behavior of cell and tissue growth. Specifically, I have demonstrated that i) the differentiation of progenitor cells in vitro was dependent on the pore size of PLGA-based scaffolds and the behavior of the cells was determined by the size of individual pores where the cells resided in, and ii) the neovascularization process in vivo could be directly manipulated by controlling a combination of pore and window sizes when they were applied to a mouse model. The last part of this work deals with the novel application of photoacoustic microscopy (PAM), a volumetric imaging modality recently developed, to tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, in the context of non-invasive imaging and quantification of cells and tissues grown in PLGA inverse opal scaffolds, both in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, the capability of PAM to monitor and quantitatively analyze the degradation of the scaffolds themselves was also demonstrated.

Resumen

Knowing what goes on in the upper atmosphere (∼80-140 km) is very important to the space science community. There are several competing forces that influence the temperature and densities of neutral molecules in that region. OPAL (Optical Profiling of the Atmospheric Limb) is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to measure the temperature there using light from oxygen molecules (∼760 nm). To accomplish this,OPAL is built into a CubeSat (a satellite the size of a loaf of bread) to be launched from the International Space Station (ISS) at an altitude of about 400 km. This vantage point is needed to see the light that is absorbed before it makes it to the ground, so a satellite is the optimal choice. Similar to looking at a tennis ball in your hand and trying to see the details of the yellow fuzz fibers on the outer edges of the ball, OPAL is trying to see the light emitted from oxygen at the outer edge of the atmosphere (also called the limb). In order to see how well OPAL can detect space weather signatures affecting the oxygen emissions a suite of models are made to simulate its output. This suite is made of: simulating the flight path of CubeSat, modeling where the OPAL instrument is looking, and how the oxygen light changes with where the instrument is looking. Because we are currently in a solar minimum, the occurrence of solar storms and geomagnetic storms are considered rare events. This allows for the concentrating on detecting gravity waves in this region and the minimum values of detecting them with this developed model.

Domain Specific Modeling (DSM) is a methodology to provide programs or system’s specification at higher level of abstraction, making use of domain concepts instead of low level programming details. To support this approach, we need to have enough expressive power in terms of those domain concepts, which means that we need to develop new languages , usually termed Domain Specific Languages (DSLs). An approach to execute specifications developed using DSLs goes by applying a model transformation technique to produce a specification in another language. These transformation techniques are applied sucessively until the specification reaches a language with an implemented run-time. The language named Concurrent Object-Oriented Petri Nets (CO-OPN) is being used successfully as a target language for such model transformation techniques. CO-OPN is an object-oriented formal language for specifying concurrent systems, that separates coordination from computational tasks. CO-OPN offers mechanisms to define the system structure and behavior, and like DSLs, relieves the developer from stipulate how that structure and behavior are attained by the underlying system. The currently available code generator for CO-OPN only produces sequential code, despite of this language potential of expressing specifications rich in concurrent behavior. The generated sequential code can be executed either in a Sequential Run-Time or in the step simulator, which is part of CO-OPN Builder IDE. The generation of sequential code turns out to be an adversity to CO-OPN application since concurrent specifications cannot be executed in parallel and therefore this languages potential is not fully exploited. This dissertation aims at filling this CO-OPN’s execution gap, through the development of a Parallel Run-Time. The new Run-Time is achieved through the adaptation of the sequential code generator and actual execution support mechanisms. In this manner, all concurrent specifications that target CO-OPN benefit from thread safe code, ready for execution in parallel and distributed environments, relieving the developer from delving into parallel programming details.By guaranteeing a safe execution environment, CO-OPN becomes an alternative to the way parallel software is nowadays developed.

The past decade and a half has seen the rapid emergence of a new material class known as photonic crystals (PCs), structures that exhibit 1, 2, or 3, dimensional periodicity of their dielectric constant, resulting in a modification of the dispersion characteristics from the normal w = vk relationship found in isotropic materials. Several remarkable electromagnetic phenomenon result, including the formation of photonic band gaps (PBGs), which are specific energy ranges where electromagnetic wave propagation is forbidden, and the existence of energies where the photon group velocity is slowed drastically from its normal value. The resulting modification of a materials photonic band structure allows unprecedented control of light, resulting in phenomena such as self-collimation, and spontaneous emission modification or lasing threshold reduction through either band edge effects (low group velocity) or microcavity defect incorporation. PCs for operation at visible wavelengths are difficult to form due to the need for nanoscale fabrication techniques. The research described focused on the fabrication of photonic crystal phosphors by using the infiltration and subsequent removal of self-assembled opal templates to make inverted opal-based photonic crystals. This thesis shows the advantages that atomic layer deposition (ALD) has as an important method for use in photonic crystal fabrication, and highlights the exciting results of use of ALD to fabricate luminescent ZnS:Mn and optically inactive titania inverse opals, as well as ZnS:Mntitania luminescent composite inverse opals.

Resumen

Secondary and backscattered electron scanning electron microscopy of argon-ion polished or focused-ion beams’ cut surfaces reveal significant differences in pore size, shape and complexity between opal-CT and quartz-phase porcelanites, but also between rocks of the same silica phase with distinct silica content or sedimentary fabric. Previous studies of these important petroleum reservoir rocks measured an order-of-magnitude lower permeability in opal-CT than quartz-phase porcelanites. Detrital-poor quartz-phase porcelanite (> 80% silica) has massive or laminated microfabrics. The massive type consists of low-porosity matrix and high-porosity lenticular patches with 17-20% bulk porosity. In contrast, a laminated detrital-poor porcelanite (26% bulk porosity) has ∼100 µm-thick layers that alternate between well connected, highly porous (35% and low-porosity layers (19%) with isolated pores. Massive detrital-rich porcelanites have porosity of 10% with and poor connectivity.

Opal-CT porcelanites also have two detrital-poor (>75% silica) and one detrital-rich (<60% silica) microfabrics. One detrital-poor porcelanite with 30% bulk porosity has a pervasive lepispheric fabric in which lepispheric cores and interlepisphere porosity each comprise ∼1/2 of the total porosity (3-138 nm size). Lepisphere core are mostly isolated by a surrounding, virtually pore-free, impermeable mantle. The larger and better-connected interlepisphere pores are formed by larger, crosscutting and radiating bladed crystals. The detrital-poor, opal-CT porcelanite is characterized by extraordinarily large and connected vuggy pores with bulk porosity of 60%. This unique pore structure is associated with silica mobility during stalled burial or tectonic uplift of the opal-CT to quartz transition zone. The third fabric is in detrital-rich opal-CT porcelanite that has 18% bulk porosity with poorly connected pores.

Eksperimentai buvo atliekami su bandinėliais gautais iš Madrido, Maskvos ir St.Peterburgo, tai yra su fotoniniais kristalais. Darbe buvo nagrinėta fotoninio kristalo opalo struktūrą ir optines savybes draustinės stop juostos srityje bei defektų valdymo būdai, keičiant elektrinį lauką. Nagrinėjamas elektrinio lauko poveikis defektams, stop juostai. Nustatyta, kad elektriniame lauke susikuria defektai, kuriuos galima valdyti nuo 0V iki 7V įtampos intervale. Išmatuoti defektinės modos perjungimo laikai kurie sieka 200 s, tai 10 kart greičiau nei stop juostos.
We did structural and spectroscopic studies of bulk and thin film synthetic opal. Demonstrate that the photonic crystal, opal have defects, but these defects may be "good" when use it to control light in stop band.

The calculation of the external speed characteristics of the engine, the power balance of the car and the definition of transmission parameters. The calculation of the dynamics of the car with uniform and non-uniform motion, the method of force balance and dynamic characteristics. The calculation of fuel efficiency of the car is carried out. The types of steering of the cars were considered, the steering of the Opel Record E Caravan was described and the steering elements were calculated. During the bachelor's qualification work, calculations and drawings were performed in such programs as "Compass" and "Mathcad".

The objective of this study was to gain a better understanding of Opal Australian Paper’s (AP’s) waste streams as a potential substrate for biomanufacturing. Three low-value process streams were included in this study: Continuous Kraft Mill (CKM) weak black liquor (WBL), Neutral Sulphite Semi-Chemical (NSSC) WBL and WBL extracted from NSSC clean-pulp (CP). The primary focus of the study was to determine the chemical composition and extent of toxicity of these WBLs towards Actinobacillus succinogenes 130Z. This genetically engineered bacterium can produce a valuable platform chemical, succinic acid, using various carbohydrate sources. This project sought to increase knowledge of AP’s WBL and its suitability as a biomanufacturing substrate. Literature has been reviewed on various pre-treatment pathways for this waste stream, A. succinogenes 130Z and its effectiveness on producing succinic acid, and the analytical techniques that have been used to answer the project objectives. The effectiveness of pre-treating the NSSC and CP WBLs was measured using the following characteristics: (a) the colour content (specific absorbance) using UV-Vis spectroscopy, (b) indicative yields of several organic constituents through pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy, (c) the atomic H/C and S/C ratios using an elemental analysis and (d) toxicity of the samples using a combination of semi-quantitative (plating trials) and quantitative (determination of minimum bactericidal concentration) techniques. The impact of an additional pre-treatment step of granular activated carbon for NSSC WBL was also researched here. InfraRed spectroscopy and toxicity analysis helped to conclude that CKM WBL is extremely toxic to Actinobacillus succinogenes 130Z and contained negligible amounts of residual sugar units. Characterising the NSSC and CP WBLs at the molecular level revealed the untreated WBLs are rich in lignin-derived methoxyphenols (up to 160 mg/kg) and contained low concentrations of elemental sulphur (up to approx. 1 mg/kg). Infra-red spectroscopy and gas chromatography indicated that the fermentable sugars in the WBLs were very low (< 1.2 mg/kg) even after pre-treatment. Both methoxyphenols and sulphur are known to be toxic to many bacteria and A. succinogenes 130Z could not tolerate more than 0.45 mg/ml (db, dry basis) and 0.78 mg/ml (db) of NSSC and CP WBLs respectively. Employing Amberlite® XAD7HP resins to pre-treat the NSSC and CP WBLs reduced their toxicity 2- to 5-fold, enabling the bacterium to survive in about 2.5 mg/ml (db) and 1 mg/ml (db) of NSSC and CP WBLs respectively. One possible reason for this is the significant reduction in lignin content afforded by this pre-treatment technique. These results conclude that AP’s WBLs are toxic and need to undergo pre-treatment prior to utilisation as a substrate for succinic acid production via fermentation.

The intent of this thesis and thesis project was to execute a successful run of the play, Stop Kiss by Diana Son while achieving the playwright’s intended message. Opal Clark directed this production of Stop Kiss at East Tennessee State University under special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc. It was performed to sold out audiences in ETSU Theatre and Dance Studio 205 October 2-7, 2017. The play explores experiences and hostility toward same sex couples, their relationships with one another and how one individual discovers sexuality. The discovery and actualization of the characters’ struggles were communicated in the play using student performers and crew members. The project was documented through a series of journal entries written by the director, who was guided by mentor Professor Robert Funk. The director details the exploration and process in daily journal entries. Additionally, a feminist criticism of the script further explores the portrayal of the plotline. The consequences and implications of dramatic choices within the context of the play are analyzed within this section.

Resumen

Due to an increase of human activity, an increase health risk has emerged from the presence of pollutants in the environment. In the transition to renewable and sustainable life style, treatment of pollutants could support the shifting societies. A motivation behind material research for environmental applications is to maximize the efficiency of the materials to alleviate environmental pollution. In the case of titania, an increase of ultra-violet light absorption is needed to overcome its bandgap to produce reactive radicals, which is the basis for photocatalysis. It has been hypothesized that photonic crystal can enhance titania photocatalysis. They are structures made of at least two dielectrics with a high refractive index contrast, ordered in a periodic fashion. For a strong contrast, photonic band gaps emerge. The effect of the photonic band gap is to force complete reflection of the incoming light within its range and multiple internal reflections at its edges. By combining photonic and electronic band gap positions, it is possible to increase the absorption at the photonic band gap edges. In this thesis, fabrication method and structural analysis of titania and alumina/titania photonic structures were presented. A thorough optical analysis was performed at all steps of fabrication – beyond what previously has been reported. The photocatalytic activity was measured with two setups. Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy combined with arc lamps and bandpass filters was used to monitor the degradation of stearic acid in ambient air. A home-built setup was used to degrade methylene blue in solution with ultra-violet illumination. The results in this thesis show in general no correlation of the photocatalytic activity to the photonic band gap position, even though absorbance data displayed an increase absorption in this energy range. A more controlled environment might show the effect of the structure, as seen in some of the experiments.

Випускна кваліфікаційна робота бакалавра містить розрахунки, ілюстровані таблицями, схемами та графіками, які потрібні для проектування легкового автомобіля. Прототипом обрано автомобіль Opel Cadett D 1979 року з двигуном об’ємом 1,3 літри. А також побудовано графічні характеристики за показниками динамічності, паливної економічності, гальмівних властивостей та тяговими показниками автомобіля, що проектується. Відповідно об’єктом наукового дослідження в даній роботі являється проект легкового автомобіля з розробкою підвіски. В результаті проведеної роботи отримано значення певних показників систем та характеристик автомобіля; вони порівнювалися зі значеннями відповідно до прототипу та корегувалися таким чином, щоб досягти технічного та економічного ефекту в проектуванні. Для виконання розрахунків та графічної частини використовувались програми: «Компас», «Mathcad» та інші.
The bachelor's thesis contains calculations illustrated with tables, diagrams and graphs that are required for the design of a car. The prototype is a 1979 Opel Cadett D with a 1.3-liter engine. And also the graphic characteristics on indicators of dynamics, fuel economy, braking properties and traction indicators of the projected car are constructed. Accordingly, the object of scientific research in this work is the design of a car with the development of the suspension. As a result of the carried out work the value of certain indicators of systems and characteristics of the car is received; they were compared with the values according to the prototype and adjusted in such a way as to achieve a technical and economic effect in the design. To perform calculations and graphics used programs: "Compass", "Mathcad" and others.

The problem of homogenization the nanostructured materials placed in DC magnetic field has been discussed. The experimental data are obtained using metallic superlattices, metal-dielectric thin films and 3D-nanostructured materials. All these materials contain ferro- or ferrimagnetic component. The trans-mission and reflection coefficients were measured on the waves of millimeter waveband. It has been shown that the experimental frequency spectra of the coefficients in zero magnetic field can be described by the effective conductivity and dielectric permittivity. The spectra of ferromagnetic resonance, however, cannot be calculated correctly with the averaged magnetization.
