Resumen
We study the relationship between directors’ liability insurance and board meeting attendance. We find that directors’ liability insurance and board meeting attendance are positively associated. This suggests that directors’ liability insurance may actually serve a governance role because an insurer definitely has incentives to thoroughly scrutinize the insured. As a result, director’s board meeting attendance rate increases because more monitoring of directors leads to more responsible behaviors of directors. With 98,524 yearly observations at the director level and 8,968 yearly observations at the firm level of listed firms in Taiwan during the period from 2008 to 2015, our empirical findings suggest that, on average, the board meeting attendance rate of insured firms is 2.9 percent higher than that of uninsured firms.

Resumen
Multi-site sampling was conducted during 2011 and 2012 to assess the scope of virus disease problems of soybean in Ohio, USA. A total of 259 samples were collected from 80 soybean fields distributed in 42 Ohio counties, accounting for more than 90% of major soybean-growing counties in Ohio. A high-throughput RNA-Seq approach was adopted to identify all viruses in the samples that share sufficient sequence similarities with known plant viruses. To minimize sequencing costs, total RNA extracted from up to 20 samples were first pooled to make up regional pools, resulting in eight regional pools per year in both 2011 and 2012. These regional pools were further pooled into two yearly master pools of RNA, and sequenced using the Illumina's HiSeq2000 platform. Bioinformatic analyses of sequence reads led to the identification of signature sequences of nine different viruses. The originating locations of these viruses were then mapped with PCR or RT-PCR. This study confirmed the widespread distribution of Bean pod mottle virus, Soybean vein necrosis virus, Tobacco ringspot virus, and Tobacco streak virus in Ohio. It additionally revealed occasional association of Alfalfa mosaic virus, Bean yellow mosaic virus, Clover yellow vein virus, Soybean mosaic virus, and Soybean Putnam virus with Ohio soybean. This is the first statewide survey of soybean viruses in Ohio, and provides the much-needed baseline information for management of virus diseases of soybean. Accepted for publication 20 May 2016. Published 10 June 2016.

Harris, Paul G. W. "London Yearly Meeting’s Response to the Richmond Declaration, 1887: A Case Study in the Avoidance of Religious Schism". Quaker Studies: Volume 26, Issue 2 26, n.º 2 (1 de diciembre de 2021): 261–78. http://dx.doi.org/10.3828/quaker.2021.26.2.6.

Resumen
London Yearly Meeting’s response to the Richmond Declaration of 1887 was neutral in that it neither endorsed nor rejected it. The Declaration was seen by British Friends in a variety of ways. These included it being viewed as either an affirmation or not of existing Quaker beliefs, a document that was more relevant to the American Quaker context, a useful statement of beliefs or an attempt to impose a creed. While failure to accept the Declaration has been interpreted as a move towards supporting an emerging liberal Quakerism, the decision to also not reject it has often been overlooked. An evaluation of the discussions about the Declaration that took place at the Yearly Meeting in London, May 1888, and which were reported in the Quaker journals The British Friend and The Friend (London), highlights the wide range of views that were held. It is proposed that the complex set of relationships that existed between different groups within London Yearly Meeting and the role played by key individuals determined a nuanced response to the Declaration which was sufficiently acceptable to all sides. Paradoxically, this unity was founded upon a collective acceptance of theological discordance within London Yearly Meeting. Consequently, schism was avoided as evangelical, conservative and liberal Quaker narratives were able to coexist alongside a non-committal response to the Declaration.

Resumen
Linn, Baker and Betebenner (2002) suggested using the effect size statistic as a measure of adequate yearly progress target (AYPT) as is required by PL 107-110. This paper analyzes a four-year data set from the required high-stakes test--Washington Assessment of Student Learning—using effect size as the AYPT metric. Mean scale scores for 4th, 7th and 10th grade reading and mathematics were examined. Nominal descriptors suggested by Cohen (1988) were applied and showed no yearly effect in student achievement as a function of the WASL. Comparing the 1998 scale scores to those of 2001 showed a small effect. However, manipulating the effect size criterion from 0.20 to 0.05 did show small yearly effects in student achievement. Meeting AYPT objectives will be a problem of defining the standard as yearly score fluctuations occur. The educational research community should challenge the statistical logic associated with setting AYPT’s.

Resumen
The Religious Society of Friends, or Quakers, which originated in England in the middle of the seventeenth century, has gone through many changes. After the exuberant, expansive early years, most Friends entered a period of quietism, in which they waited patiently for divine direction and largely withdrew from the society around them. At the beginning of the nineteenth century the majority of Friends on both sides of the Atlantic embraced the evangelical movement which had taken hold in both the Anglican church and the newer Methodist denomination. While some Quakers were caught up in such ultra-evangelical activities as revivals and the holiness movement, others turned away and accepted the new liberalism which appeared in Protestantism.

Resumen
Introduction The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office (SCMEO) observed 52 unexplained deaths during the month of July 2016 in which drug overdose was suspected. A fentanyl screening immunoassay performed on autopsy specimens was positive, but gas chromatograph/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) failed to confirm its presence. Carfentanil, a large wildlife tranquilizer, was later identified through reference lab testing as the cause of the sudden increase in overdoses. Methods Due to the large volume of cases which followed, a method for identifying carfentanil was developed utilizing in-house instrumentation. In addition, a retrospective analysis for all drug overdose cases was conducted through the SCMEO database from January 2009 through December 2016. Results Assessment of the data revealed a 277% increase in yearly overdose-related fatalities when comparing 2009 to 2016. Carfentanil was not identified in any other fatal drug overdoses in the area before the first appearance in Akron in July of 2016. There was an initial spike of 35 deaths in both July and August, which then decreased to 12 deaths in December. There was an almost equal distribution of carfentanil as a single agent and carfentanil mixed with multiple other illicit drugs. Discussion Current observations suggest carfentanil concentrations in overdose cases are decreasing; however, it may be present in combination with other drugs, especially other fentanyl analogs. The lower concentrations of carfentanil are much more difficult to detect in urine and peripheral blood, therefore making the testing of scene paraphernalia, central blood, and organ tissue more of a necessity.

Resumen
ABSTRACT From its early days when the Peanut Improvement Working Group (PIWG) became the American Peanut Research and Education Association (APREA), and later, the American Peanut Research and Education Society (APRES), this organization has evolved into a vital foundation within the peanut industry. For the past fifty years, the APRES meeting has become a juncture that brings together a diverse group of individuals from industry, academia, research, and business, to name a few, creating a space where the latest research, ideas, and concepts are produced, discussed, and shared. Most importantly, APRES is also about family. It is like having a yearly family reunion. This family-centric orientation makes the society and its yearly meeting very different from other organizations. Each year means seeing old friends, as well as watching children and grandchildren grow up, and strengthening that bond of being part of the APRES family through this connection. The evolution of APRES and the subsequent generations of new graduate students, scientists, researchers, and others continues to shape the direction of the society. APRES facilitates this connection between science, industry and friendship in an environment that mentors and cultivates the next generation of scientists and individuals in peanut production. By tracing the history of APRES, the role of the society emerges as a reflection of how the peanut industry is evolving, and with it, how the function and role of APRES evolves alongside it. For fifty years, this society and its yearly meeting continues to develop its place as a cornerstone of the peanut industry, as well as create a family atmosphere among its membership.

Resumen
ObjectiveTo examine healthcare utilisation for all firearm-related injuries among publicly insured children.MethodsA retrospective analysis of firearm injury medical claims among paediatric (<21 years) Medicaid beneficiaries in Ohio from 2010 to 2018. Factors associated with unintentional and intentional firearm injury were explored using multivariable logistic regression. Average annual patient healthcare costs were determined in 2019 US$.ResultsThere were 1061 firearm injury-related claims (853 (80%) unintentional; 154 (15%) intentional; 54 (5%) unknown) occurring in 663 children over 2 736 517 available person-years. From 2010 to 2018, yearly total firearm claims rose from 19.7 to 31.3 per 100 000 persons (p=0.033). Urban children experienced a non-significant increase in firearm claims rate over time (26.1 vs 35.0/100 000; p=0.066) while the claims rate nearly tripled among those in rural areas (8.4 vs 24.0/100 000; p=0.012). Younger age, females and rural residence were associated with reduced odds of injury claims. The average annual costs for emergency department and inpatient visits, respectively, were $260 and $5735.ConclusionRisk and type of firearm injury claims among low-income children in Ohio varies by age, sex and residence. Prevention programmes should be tailored based on these demographics.

Resumen
OBJECTIVES/GOALS: This study examines the impact of COVID restrictions on the process of engagement in the Ohio-HCS site. The goals are to: examine the impact of COVID restrictions on the process of engagement; 2) determine differences in process measures by geographic region (rural, urban). METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: Engagement activities collected as part of the Ohio HCS include an engagement log, coalition meeting type and attendance, tracker of implementation strategies. Study period: January 2020 to October 31, 2021. Measures are defined below. Meeting occurrence, type by month: Data report on whether a meeting occurred, was scheduled and cancelled, or a scheduled off-month. The meeting platform was also recorded (in-person, hybrid, virtual). Coalition meeting attendance by month: Number of community members in attendance. Engagement communications by type, by month: Counts and percent (types: email, calls, zoom, or in person). Evidence-Based Practices(EBP) delivery option: in person, virtual, or hybrid. Counties: 9 Ohio counties, 5 rural, 4 urban. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: Coalition meetings were cancelled in 40% of rural counties; none in the urban counties. Two rural counties switched back to in person or hybrid meetings by late 2020; urban counties remain 100% virtual. Rural counties had a drop-off in attendance in June 2021 with no decrease seen in urban counties. During first two months of 2020 engagement in rural and urban communities occurred in person; by March that shifted to 80% by email, which continued within rural counties. In urban counties that dropped to 50% by August of 2020, with zoom calls accounting for 30%. In-person strategies for naloxone distribution remained high in both county types (90%); urban counties use of in-person only strategies for medication for OUD (rural: 83%, urban 52%) and safer prescribing (rural:74%, urban:10%) were much lower than rural counties. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE: Results show that rural counties continue to rely on in person engagement strategies, making COVID restrictions more disruptive for rural counties. These results suggest that new supports and strategies may be needed to assure that rural regions are equally equipped to engage in research in a virtual environment.

Abstract Farm producers attempt to mitigate risk and uncertainty by utilizing accurate and reliable information. This research attempts to identify sources of information used by Ohio fruit producers and then determine which of these sources are best meeting their information needs. Results are based on a logit analysis of Ohio fruit producers and several factors are shown to influence producers' evaluation of the “adequacy” of their marketing information. Among these factors are age, business size, education, type of enterprise, and types of information sources. Reported findings have implications for marketing efficiency, particularly if producers' evaluation of infonnation as adequate is positively related to its efficient use.

‘From childhood on, women’s moral sense emphasises caring for others. This orientation to the experiences, needs and wishes of others leads women to attend to and nurture other human beings and to provide them with what has become known as “social support”’ (Belle, 1982). This provision of crucial support is often at a cost to the women involved. This paper describes a community outreach project which has been running for nine years with the primary aim of renewing and reinforcing women’s feelings of self worth. The project involves twice-yearly residential weekends attended by an average of one hundred and twenty women. The history and evolution of the groups and some possible reasons why they work will be discussed.

Resumen
Eight cold-water streams in Lake and Geauga Counties, Ohio were evaluated to develop a revised predictive model to assess future streams for the introduction of threatened native Ohio Brook Trout (Salvelinus fontinalis). A 15-month study was conducted, ending May 2010, in streams where Brook Trout were previously introduced during the years 1997-2002. Fifty percent of the sixteen original reintroduction streams failed to support the establishment of self-sustaining populations of Brook Trout, indicating there were additional factors contributing to their success and failure. Of the 8 streams included in this study, 4 streams were designated successful, 2 variable, and 2 failed, in terms of the Brook Trout’s ability to establish self-sustaining populations by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). Multivariate statistical methods including Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Agglomerative Hierarchical Cluster Analysis (AHCA) were implemented to determine the most important characteristics in Brook Trout stream selection. Factors found to be significant for Brook Trout success were stream velocities within the range of 1.4-4.7 cm/s, high hydraulic conductivity of the headwater bedrock aquifer (K>4.7 x 103 cm/s), lighter average δ18O ‰ (-9.8 to -10.4), either high percent canopy cover (40%-55%) or high percent instream cover (18%-37%), a high number of cold-water adapted benthic macroinvertebrate cold-water taxa (10-16 species), yearly average hyporheic water temperature of 4.6°C-17.2°C, average surface water turbidity of 7 to 31 NTU and long-term surface water temperature and dissolved oxygen monitoring over both winter and summer seasons is recommended prior to Brook Trout introduction to ensure their sustainability.

Resumen
“I hope that the matter of the agreement not to discuss the war can be satisfactorily clarified,” Walter M. Horton wrote to the office of the Federal Council of Churches in November of 1941, referring to a meeting of several hundred liberal Protestant leaders the FCC was planning for the following March. “I found some questioning about it” at a recent meeting of peace advocates, some of whom, Horton continued, expressed fear that if they went to the conference they would be obliged “to swear an oath not to say a word about the dominant reality on the horizon.” The distinguished Oberlin theologian worried that the question of “a just and durable peace” that was to be addressed at the “Delaware Conference”—so named on account of its being held on the Delaware, Ohio, campus of Ohio Wesleyan University—might not be effectively engaged because opponents of American entry into World War II were being asked to shut up in the presence of the self-styled “political realists” who were chiefly behind the conclave.

Resumen
Abstract Community colleges play an important role in training adults in healthcare-related occupations, such as nurses and medical technicians, to meet the needs of an aging population in the U.S. In addition, community colleges with open access policies, have a long-standing record of serving a diverse population, including students of all ages. However, the relatively low program completion rates (e.g., about 30% in Ohio) are of concern in general, and among older students in particular. One of the reasons for the low completion rate is the lack of postsecondary education readiness or basic skills, such as literacy, numeracy, and digital skills. The COVID-19 pandemic has created additional challenges, including faculty shortages, lack of internet access, poor digital skills, and transitions to online classes. This study examined characteristics of health-related occupational programs at community colleges located in Washington, Indiana, and Ohio, focusing on adult student characteristics, and their administrators' and faculty’s views on basic skills and program completion. In addition, potential employers were interviewed regarding the skill expectations of community college hires. Using the semi-structured qualitative interview, community college administrators, faculty, and potential employers reported that numeracy skills, excellent grammar, and critical thinking skills are important to succeed both in the classroom and in the workplace. Creating a supportive atmosphere in the classroom and providing tutoring, either by the instructor or at a tutoring center, are also important for student success. More detailed results as well as other policy implications are discussed in this study.
