Resumen

The article presents a review of the literature of theoretical and practice-oriented publications on the organization of nutrition and nutritional support for patients of the intensive care unit. The main conditions of the organization of nutritive nutrition, the conditions of its effectiveness, nutrition factors contributing to the recovery of patients are highlighted. The features of patients in the intensive care unit that determine the need for nutritional support are determined.

The underfive of children is a high-risk group of nutritional problems during the Covid-19 pandemic due to lack of nutritious eating intake, increasingly difficult economic conditions, and child health services (Posyandu) activities were closed. The community service objective was to increase the role of nutrition support groups (posyandu lay workers) in an effort to prevent and overcome nutritional problems for children. The community service targets are 4 posyandu lay workers in Sialang Mungu district, Pekanbaru as well as families with nutritional problems. The method used nutrition training for posyandu lay worker, screening the nutritional status, guidance to make the simple food (bento), providing nutrition packages and making aquaponic as an effort to endurance nutrition. The success of this activity is measured through the increase of posyandu lay workers to perform nutritional monitoring, the success of making bento, and the increase of weight of children between 500 to 1000 grams. Training and mentoring for nutrition support groups was able to provide the necessary understanding in detecting toddler nutrition during pandemic and making efforts to improve the nutrition of children. Nutrition support groups have the main role to prevent and solve the problem of nutrition of children in the community in Pekanbaru.

Balanced nutrition practices include knowledge and attitudes towards consuming balance nutritious foods and implementing healthy behaviors. Selection of a balanced nutritional menu and good nutrition intake will determine optimal nutritional and health status. The community service activity in the form of counseling on a balanced nutritional diet for Students of SMKN 24 Cipayung East Jakarta are an effort to achieve optimal nutritional status in adolescents and are expected to be an important momentum to remind the public, especially adolescents, about the importance of balanced nutrition and how to choose healthy and nutritious food. This community service is in the form of providing education regarding a balanced nutritional diet for adolescents. The assessment was carried out using a pre-test before counseling and a post-test after counseling. The educational results revealed an increase in knowledge about a balanced nutritional diet of 14.83 points, from an average value of 63.50 (before counseling) to 78.33 (after counseling). The different test results obtained a p-value of 0.0005. It can be concluded that there is an increase in students' knowledge about a balanced nutritional diet after counseling.

Resumen

A reasonable and balanced diet is essential for maintaining good health. With advancements in deep learning, an automated nutrition estimation method based on food images offers a promising solution for monitoring daily nutritional intake and promoting dietary health. While monocular image-based nutrition estimation is convenient, efficient and economical, the challenge of limited accuracy remains a significant concern. To tackle this issue, we proposed DPF-Nutrition, an end-to-end nutrition estimation method using monocular images. In DPF-Nutrition, we introduced a depth prediction module to generate depth maps, thereby improving the accuracy of food portion estimation. Additionally, we designed an RGB-D fusion module that combined monocular images with the predicted depth information, resulting in better performance for nutrition estimation. To the best of our knowledge, this was the pioneering effort that integrated depth prediction and RGB-D fusion techniques in food nutrition estimation. Comprehensive experiments performed on Nutrition5k evaluated the effectiveness and efficiency of DPF-Nutrition.

Nutritional knowledge plays an important role in shaping the mindset of choosing the type and amount of food consumed. A person with good nutritional knowledge is expected to pay attention to the nutritional state of each food he consumes. Unhealthy eating habits in choosing types of food can also have an impact on nutritional status problems. Nutritious food is not expensive and delicious food, but one that has a balanced nutritional value for the body. The food counseling with balanced nutrition for adolescents aims to provide information and knowledge to adolescents at SMK Erlangga. The result of this activity was that 96.39% of students understood the counseling material on balanced nutrition. This is good because it adds insight to students in order to find out optimal nutritional needs and improve daily eating patterns.

Sports nutrition is the one that, in addition to satisfying the energy and nutri-tional needs of the athlete, will provide him or her with good health, the effectiveness of sports performances, but also good recovery after training or competition and prevent injuries. Sports nutrition should be well organized and planned, varied, and the emphasis is on meeting the greater energy and nutritional needs of athletes. These increased needs for energy and nutrient intake are not significantly higher and can be met with a proper and varied nutrition. Athletes should be enabled and encouraged to have a proper, varied and well-planned diet in order to withstand daily training. This means that they need nutritious and regular meals.

Nutritional status is a condition caused by a balance between the intake of nutrition from food and the need for nutrients by the body. Nutrition problems inthe community will effect the quality of human resources, so that it becomes a serious problems for future development. The purpose of this study was to find out the improvement of cadre’s skills in determining nutrtitional status by using the nutritionla bar design conducted on 45 caders subjects in Poyandu Lingga Village and Pancaroba Village, sungai Ambawang District Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan.the results showed that the average skills of posyandu caders before being given training on the use nutritional ruler was 36.00 and after being given nutrition relur media increased to 95.22. Conclusion there are differences in the posyandu cader’s skill in using the nutrition bar to determine the nutritional status of children under five between before and after the nutrition bar is given (p=0,000).

Background : Nutrition is one of the important factors in achieving health status. Indonesia is currently experiencing an increase in life expectancy and an increase in the number of elderly people. Therefore, elderly health needs to get special attention in giving nutrition. The importance of the role of families with the elderly, one of which is nutrition. Objective : to find out the relationship between the level of family knowledge in providing nutritious food to the elderly with nutritional status of the elderly. Methods : This research is analytical descriptive with cross sectional approach. The population is all families who live with the elderly, taking samples with purposive random sampling, obtained 43 respondents. The instrument uses questionnaires containing knowledge of nutrition and anthropometry to determine nutritional status. Univariate and bivariate data analysis with Chi Square test. Results : Of the 43 families with the elderly, the junior high school education level was 42%, the level of family knowledge in providing nutrition to the elderly with knowledge of the turtle was 46% and the nutritional status of the elderly was 42% obese. Based on the results of the Chi Square statistic test, the p value of 0.003 0.05 means that there is a significant relationship between the level of family knowledge in providing nutrition for the elderly and nutritional status. The higher the level of knowledge of the family, the better the nutritional status.Conclusion : There is a significant relationship between family knowledge about providing nutrition with the nutritional status of the elderly.

The association between nutrition and intestinal function is based on facts. The main function of the gut is to digest and absorb nutrients in order to maintain life. Consequently, chronic gastrointestinal diseases commonly result in malnutrition and increased morbidity and mortality. Chronic malnutrition impairs digestive and absorptive function. Parenteral and enteral nutritions are effective therapeutic modalities in several diseases. In cases of gastrointestinal malfunctions, nutrition has a direct therapeutic role. The benefit of nutrition therapy is similar to medical treatment in patients with pancreatitis, Crohn disease, hepatic failure, and in those with gastrointestinal fistulas. Nutrition has both supportive and therapeutic roles in the management of chronic gastrointestinal diseases. Resumen

This dissertation focuses on the impact of nutrition to modulate and optimize milk production, blood metabolites and liver metabolism. Specifically, the main aim was to elucidate the effects of rumen protected choline (RPC) supplementation to lactating dairy cows on production, metabolic health and hepatic gene expression, for which two different studies were performed. The first study, a meta-analysis of the effect of RPC supplementation on milk yield (MY), nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) and β-hydroxybutyrate (BHBA) in lactating dairy cows was performed in order to obtain an overall view of the effect of rumen protected choline. Rumen protected choline supplementation has been reported to have a positive effect on milk yield and metabolic health in lactating dairy cows. In light of this, a meta-analysis has been performed in order to elucidate the effect of choline chloride supplemented as RPC on both milk yield and selected blood metabolites. For this purpose, 21 peer-reviewed articles published from 1985 to 2016 were selected. This systematic review was carried out to evaluate the effects of RPC supplementation on MY, NEFA, and BHBA. Results obtained showed positive effects of RPC supplementation on MY in lactating dairy cows. The studies selected for this meta- analysis supplemented choline chloride in a range from 6.25 to 50g/d and milk production increase averaged 2.14±1.86 kg/d. Meta-regression on the dose- response relationship between dietary RPC and MY was significant. When NEFA and BHBA were evaluated, no overall effect was detected. Moderator analysis revealed that all outcomes, MY, NEFA and BHBA, were not significantly affected by the mode of choline supplementation (blended vs. topdressed). In the second study, the mechanism beyond the metabolic changes due to RPC was investigated, with emphasis on hepatic gluconeogenesis, lipid oxidation and transport that occur during the transition period; particularly, the interaction of RPC and dietary energy concentration was tested and the expression of selected hepatic genes was analyzed. Hepatic gluconeogenic and oxidation genes were studied during the transition from late pregnancy to early lactation dependent upon RPC supplementation during the periparturient period, and prepartum energy intake. Controlling prepartum energy intake or supplementing RPC during the periparturient period, are two strategies to optimize hepatic metabolic function. At -48 days relative to calving (DRTC), multiparous Holstein cows were assigned to either a controlled (1.40 Mcal of NEL/kg DM; CE) or high (1.63 Mcal NEL/kg DM; HE) energy prepartum diet with or without RPC (top-dressed daily from -21 to +21 DRTC). Postpartum diets only differed in addition vs absence of RPC. Liver tissue biopsy samples were collected at -14, +7, +14, and +21 DRTC for RNA isolation and cDNA generation (n=16/treatment). Six genes involved in gluconeogenesis, lipid oxidation and lipid transportation were selected. Results obtained indicate that an increase in the expression of pyruvate carboxylase mRNA was reduced in cows receiving RPC after calving, which suggests that RPC had improved energy status and carbohydrate metabolism in the liver and reduced the need for pyruvate carboxylase. RPC supplementation decreased PCK1 in HE+RPC probably due to higher oxidation of increased circulating NEFA that translated to increased oxidative capacity of the TCA cycle. Moreover, this change can help to maintain the oxaloacetate pool. No effect of RPC supplementation was observed with regard to CPT1A, which is involved in fatty acid transportation. On the other hand, PPARA and MTTP were affected by RPC treatment, indicating that RPC supplementation may have modulated FA transport and oxidation. In light of the two studies performed, RPC can improve milk production through lactation. Additionally, RPC supplementation may support and increase hepatic oxidative capacity.

The study was designed to identify current levels of corporate health promotion and nutrition activities and to highlight the need for continued health promotion activities, in particular nutrition education, throughout corporate America.Five hundred surveys were mailed to the Fortune 500 companies throughout the United States. One hundred and twenty-one were completed, yielding a 24% sample for analysis.The wellness/health promotion activities reported to be a part of corporate wellness programs included exercise, nutrition education, CPR training, stress management and intramural sports. It appeared that size of the corporation influenced the nutrition promotion provided at the worksite. There appeared to be no difference between CEO support or lack of support to the wellness/health promotion program and the variety of health promotion activities. It was apparent that having a nutrition consultant resulted in greater and more varied nutrition health promotion activities at the worksite, and that in the future, America's Fortune 500 companies will need to hire a nutrition professional to disseminate nutrition and health promotion information at the worksite.

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) was established to provide meals that would meet one-third of the daily nutritional needs of children. Administrators of NSLP understand the responsibility to address the rising increase of obesity in children today. The purpose of this study was to examine the educational attainment, food and nutrition knowledge, nutrition attitudes, nutrition behaviors and nutrition training of 411 Indiana School Food Service Directors, through the completion of a 50 itemized questionnaire. The hypothesis of this research was to show that the educational attainment of Indiana School Food Service Directors would not impact their food and nutrition knowledge, nutrition attitudes, nutrition behaviors or nutrition training.A statistical significance (p<0.036) was found when analyzing nutrition attitudes between the respondents in the 41-50 year age group and the 61-70 year age group. Results indicated the 41-50 year old group had a more positive nutrition attitude than the 61-50 year age group. Additional analysis of the questionnaire results revealed no statistical significant difference between Indiana School Food Service Directors' educational attainment and nutrition attitude, nutrition behaviors, or nutrition training.

This research study analyzed the sources of nutrition blog information as measured by frequency and type of sources used by nutrition bloggers. Since the use of online resources for finding health information has become more prevalent, it is important to further research the topic for the purpose of better understanding how our nutrition agenda is set by nutrition bloggers. Focusing on 20 nutrition blogs, the study content analyzed 3,156 blog posts during a one-year period from September 1, 2011 to August 31, 2012, yielding 5,263 sources. Additionally, in-depth interviews were conducted with the writers of all 20 blogs in July 2012. The findings showed that (1) nutrition bloggers are sourcing half of the time, (2) nutrition bloggers are citing a variety of sources that include both credible and less credible sources, (3) nutrition bloggers are finding and choosing sources in various ways that include both credible and less credible methods, and (4) there is no difference in the sources selected by men and women bloggers. Overall, this study shows the need to create best practices for blog sourcing that serve as guidelines for both bloggers and readers, with emphasis on guidelines for source frequency and credibility of sources.

The last two decades have seen an increased drive to administer parenteral nutrition (PN) to patients in their home environments, thereby reducing associated hospital costs and improving patient quality of life. The occurrence of deranged nutritional biochemistry results has baffled PN experts for years because PN additives are marketed for the general needs of patients and PN is tailored to each patient’s requirements (both formulation and regimen). This thesis documents the investigations into HPN population characteristics, the extent of nutritional abnormalities (deficiencies and excesses) in a cohort of LT PN patients in Wales. Both cross-sectional and longitudinal retrospective study designs were employed alongside small-scale laboratory efforts to investigate stability of vitamin D in PN additives using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Characteristics of the HPN population in Wales were shown to be variable in terms of PN requirements for a predominantly female sample population (2:1); in whom 78.6% of patients received PN for indications relating to short bowel syndrome (SBS). A database analysis of micronutrient test results revealed a high prevalence of deficiencies of vitamin D and selenium, as well as excesses of manganese and water-soluble vitamins; which can lead to clinically relevant effects in patients. The sample population was shown to have impaired bone health since first receiving PN; respective sites of the femoral neck and total hip presented 58% and 60.8% of patients had osteopenia, while 28% and 19.6% had osteoporosis. Evidence in the literature links these clinical outcomes of metabolic bone disease (MBD) to patients’ inadequate vitamin D status. A final study exploring the adequacy of the trace element (TE) preparation Additrace®, found it lacking in selenium and excessive in manganese for the general requirements of the PN population. Clinician-directed supplementation of PN outside of Additrace® was associated with better micronutrient status in patients and more test results within range.

Resumen

Ideas concerning relationships between diet and health in the UK are traced from the 1904 Comittee on Physical Deterioration to the outbreak of World War II. Archive material is used to describe the often conflicting views of the Medical Research Council and the Ministry of Health and Board of Education concerning the public health applications of nutrition science. In particular, the work of the Ministry of Health's first Advisory Comittee on Nutrition, which was appointed in 1931, is reviewed and evaluated. The debate among public healh practitioners over the nature, cause and extent of the 'nutrition problem' is documented and the role in this debate of official dietary guidelines which appeared during the 1930s, is assessed. The Impact of the Newer Knowledge of Nutrition on welfare feeding policy Is evaluated in the context of the official promotion of milk feeding in schools. In particular, Corry Mann's experimental evidence which was used to endorse this policy, is reconsidered, and it is shown that the NRC view that the trial was proof of the presence in milk of a "growth factor" which produced preferential growth efficiency in adequately fed children , was in error. From a re-evaluation of the evidence it is suggested that the experiment merely recorded catch-up growth in a group of poorly nourished children. The view that there existed an extensive nutritional problem due to poor quality diets is examined and challenged. Both dietary survey data and anthropometric evidence are used to present the case that there was throughout the period studied a widespread problem of underfeeding among the poor and that intervention strategies based on the Newer Knowledge were not an appropriate method of dealing with this problem. This casts doubts on the widely held view that there was a need for nutrition education and suggests that the problem was one of poverty rather than Ignorance. Disaggregated anthropometric data located by the author are analysed according to NCHS standards to assess the prevalence of underfeeding. Significantly higher prevalences of stunting than low weight-for-age exist in all data sets; this phenomenon is considered in detail and low weight-for-age is proposed as the preferred index of malnutrition in 20th Century historical studies. Attention is drawn to the relevance of these studies for the current nutrition and public health debate.

An important component of a healthy diet is the comprehension and retention of nutritional information and understanding of how different food items and nutritional constituents affect our bodies. In the U.S. and many other countries, nutritional information is primarily conveyed to consumers through nutrition labels (NLs) which can be found in all packaged food products. However, sometimes it becomes really challenging to utilize all this information available in these NLs even for consumers who are health conscious as they might not be familiar with nutritional terms or find it difficult to integrate nutritional data collection into their daily activities due to lack of time, motivation, or training. So it is essential to automate this data collection and interpretation process by integrating Computer Vision based algorithms to extract nutritional information from NLs because it improves the user’s ability to engage in continuous nutritional data collection and analysis. To make nutritional data collection more manageable and enjoyable for the users, we present a Proactive NUTrition Management System (PNUTS). PNUTS seeks to shift current research and clinical practices in nutrition management toward persuasion, automated nutritional information processing, and context-sensitive nutrition decision support. PNUTS consists of two modules, firstly a barcode scanning module which runs on smart phones and is capable of vision-based localization of One Dimensional (1D) Universal Product Code (UPC) and International Article Number (EAN) barcodes with relaxed pitch, roll, and yaw camera alignment constraints. The algorithm localizes barcodes in images by computing Dominant Orientations of Gradients (DOGs) of image segments and grouping smaller segments with similar DOGs into larger connected components. Connected components that pass given morphological criteria are marked as potential barcodes. The algorithm is implemented in a distributed, cloud-based system. The system’s front end is a smartphone application that runs on Android smartphones with Android 4.2 or higher. The system’s back end is deployed on a five node Linux cluster where images are processed. The algorithm was evaluated on a corpus of 7,545 images extracted from 506 videos of bags, bottles, boxes, and cans in a supermarket. The DOG algorithm was coupled to our in-place scanner for 1D UPC and EAN barcodes. The scanner receives from the DOG algorithm the rectangular planar dimensions of a connected component and the component’s dominant gradient orientation angle referred to as the skew angle. The scanner draws several scan lines at that skew angle within the component to recognize the barcode in place without any rotations. The scanner coupled to the localizer was tested on the same corpus of 7,545 images. Laboratory experiments indicate that the system can localize and scan barcodes of any orientation in the yaw plane, of up to 73.28 degrees in the pitch plane, and of up to 55.5 degrees in the roll plane. The videos have been made public for all interested research communities to replicate our findings or to use them in their own research. The front end Android application is available for free download at Google Play under the title of NutriGlass. This module is also coupled to a comprehensive NL database from which nutritional information can be retrieved on demand. Currently our NL database consists of more than 230,000 products. The second module of PNUTS is an algorithm whose objective is to determine the text skew angle of an NL image without constraining the angle’s magnitude. The horizontal, vertical, and diagonal matrices of the (Two Dimensional) 2D Haar Wavelet Transform are used to identify 2D points with significant intensity changes. The set of points is bounded with a minimum area rectangle whose rotation angle is the text’s skew. The algorithm’s performance is compared with the performance of five text skew detection algorithms on 1001 U.S. nutrition label images and 2200 single- and multi-column document images in multiple languages. To ensure the reproducibility of the reported results, the source code of the algorithm and the image data have been made publicly available. If the skew angle is estimated correctly, optical character recognition (OCR) techniques can be used to extract nutrition information.

Background: In the year of its 100th anniversary celebration, the Institute of Public Health of Serbia enters with a new Nutrition Counseling Unit (NCU) at the Center for Hygiene and Human Ecology, providing nutrition health services again through referral of a chosen doctor. Services provided on this occasion include anthropometric measurements during the examination of the individual's nutrition, determination of anthropometric indices, evaluation of the results of biochemical indicators of blood and urine, nutrition anamnesis, preparation of diet therapy for the individual at the first visit and control examination and for different pathological conditions. It is also ensured that Primary Health Centers (PHC) may refer their patients through the National System for Electronic Health Records "My Doctor". Methods and Objectives: This retrospective study, was aimed to bring overview of health status of the NCU patients, using referral and final diagnoses from patient's protocol for the period July 2023 - July 2024. Results: The records of the referral and final diagnoses showed that there were significantly more women than men who turned to the NCU (81.9% vs. 18.1%, respectively). Patients most often sought nutrition advice due to obesity (50% of men; 57.9% of women), dyslipidemia (7.9% of men; 7% of women) and hypertension (8% of men; 5.5% of women), less often due to nutritional risk factors prevention. In patients with obesity, among the comorbidities, there were mostly diagnoses from the International Classification of Diseases group IV (Diseases of glands with internal secretion, nutrition and metabolism), IX (Diseases of the circulatory system) and XI (Diseases of the digestive system). Conclusions: Work in the NCU, as prevention of nutritional risk factors and medical nutrition therapy, are based on an individual dietary approach. Our experiences indicate that significance of medical nutrition therapy and medical nutritional prevention were important determinants for both medical doctors in PHC and patients as well.

NUTRITION-SENSITIVE agriculture is a food-based approach to agricultural development that puts nutritionally rich foods and dietary diversity at the heart of overcoming undernutrition, overnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies. Agriculture is already the source of most of the food we consume. Yet many people involved in agriculture do not consume enough food or benefit from a healthy diet. Indeed, although 63 per cent of low-income people worldwide work in agriculture – the overwhelming majority of them on small farms – many are at risk of food and nutrition insecurity. Farmers often must make difficult choices between what they consume and what they sell. Though they may grow nutritious crops and raise livestock, many of them sell most of what they produce, with little or nothing left for household consumption. The primary objective of investing in nutrition-sensitive agriculture and food systems is to ensure that acceptable, diverse, nutritious and safe foods, adequate to meet the dietary needs of people of all ages, are available and affordable at all times. This can mean, for example, introducing good practices that enable year-round access to a variety of nutritious food – either by making sure producers have the resources to produce the right foods for a healthy diet, or by equipping markets to sell a variety of nutritious foods at affordable prices. Empowering women and the impact of agriculture on women’s income is considered significant to nutrition security in households. Classical elements of food and nutrition security are income generation, increasing production, reducing post-harvest loses. Health aspects seen as most relevant in the context of nutrition-sensitive agriculture are; food-associated diseases, water pollution, and health hazards due to the use of chemicals. Of the three pillars of the modified UNICEF model, care has been considered by some studies to be significantly less in the context of nutrition-sensitive agriculture than food security or health.

Introduction: Nutritional screening should be used as a tool nutritional risk early identification, aiming at intervention for the prevention of malnutrition and rehabilitation. Objectives: Report nutritional risk management protocol in patients admitted for suspected stroke. Methodology: Experience report on the working method of nutrition team at a stroke reference center. Results: Nutrition screening by a Dietist is applied within 72 hours of admission of all patients admitted to the acute/integral stroke unit. First, NRS-2002 tool is applied, in which the following items are considered: BMI < 20.5Kg/m²; weight loss in the past three months; reduction in food intake in the last week; metabolic stress and age (≥70 years old). Those with a speech-language diagnosis of dysphagia are also considered at nutritional risk. After, anthropometric measurements: weight and height are measured with walking patients, or knee height, brachial and calf circumference of those with cognitive and/or motor disabilities. Individualized nutritional therapy (oral/enteral) is prescribed. In addition, cases are discussed in a multiprofessional daily round to define actions during rehabilitation and in the discharge process (conter- referral to primary care, nutrition advice and continuity of nutritional therapy at home). Conclusions: Establishing a nutritional risk management protocol is important for early identification in post-stroke patients, since nutritional status is directly related to a good prognosis and long-term quality of life.

Hydroponic is a farming method that utilizes water, minerals, and oxygen. This study aims to find out the best nutrition towards growing curly lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) by using the NFT (nutrient film technique) hydroponic system integrated with sensors to measure EC concentration of nutrients, pH acidity, and RH air humidity. This study also incorporates a grouped randomized design with two nutritional treatment (code P1 and P2), with 20 replication. The results showed that nutrition P1 producing a better variable compared to nutrition P2 in terms of plant length, quantity of leaves, length of root, total mass of fresh plants, total mass of plant crown, total mass of fresh roots, and chlorophyl content. Background: Suboptimal diet is responsible that one-third of the world’s population suffers from malnutrition. However, in cities, current food systems cannot guarantee sustainable availability, accessibility and affordability of nutritious foods for the entire population. Digitalization can be a key driver for sustainable food system transformation for better outcomes in food and nutrition. Objective: In the frame of the Nutrition in City Ecosystems (NICE) project connecting the demand and supply of urban food systems, 16’000 Kenyan farmers should be connected to specific marketplaces in Busia and Bungoma, Western Kenya, using the Soluta-ag digital tool in order to improve availability, accessibility and affordability of nutritious foods for urban consumers. Results: In NICE, the Farmers’ Hub social business model is applied to increase the production of nutritious and agroecologically produced foods. Farmers’ Hubs are ‘one-stop-shops’ offering a range of services to farmers, e.g., access to quality inputs, mechanization, advisory services and a market place for sale for produce contributing to better dietary quality. The Soluta-ag application supports buying and selling activities of the Farmers’ Hubs, provides data-driven insights on market trends, and monitors Farmers’ Hubs performance for more informed decisions. Since the initiation of the NICE project in 2021, 92 NICE Farmers’ Hubs owners serving 10,528 farmers have been trained on the utilization of Soluta-ag in Busia and Bungoma and transacting an average of KES 100,000 per month via Soluta-ag between January to April 2023. Conclusion: Close connection between all food systems stakeholders and evidence-based data for decision-making are key for sustainable food system transformation. A sustainable and equitable food system is a priority to tackle nutrition challenges in city ecosystems. Digitalization can play a key role in these processes. Soluta-ag, applied and introduced to foster production of nutritious and agroecologically produced food in secondary cities and to better link producers and consumers clearly contributes to an increased availability, accessibility, and affordability of nutritious foods for city populations through improved connection of farmers’ produce to markets ensuring fair prices for all involved. Malawi has strong policies and frameworks for nutrition but insufficient funding to implement them. Analyses of government budgets at national level and in 10 districts from financial years 2016/17 to 2022/23, found that domestic budget allocations for nutrition are still well below the 5% of national budget target set by the government. National budget allocations ranged between 0.5% to 3.7% depending on the year. At district level, they ranged from 0.2% to 1.6%, with only one district, in one financial year, exceeding the 1.5% target for district level nutrition budget allocations. Over 95% of nutrition activities in Malawi are currently funded by external donors. The absence of sufficient, consistent and dedicated domestic budget for nutrition at national and district level, means nutrition policies and plans will continue to be driven by, and dependent on, externally funded pilot-scale projects without national reach or ownership. Budget tracking is essential, as it provides data, which all actors can use to hold government to account on their commitments and funding targets.

Over the years, the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) has been at the forefront of the government’s efforts to alleviate poverty and improve health and nutrition outcomes among the most vulnerable Filipino families. This program, which offers financial assistance in return for complying with health, education, and nutrition-related requirements, has shown positive effects on children's nutritional outcomes. This study investigates how children's nutritional outcomes are affected by conditional cash transfers (i.e., 4Ps) in the Philippines. It aims to explore the role that the 4Ps play in the prevalence of stunting and wasting in children. By using the 2018–2019 Expanded National Nutrition Survey from the Food and Nutrition Research Institute and through propensity score matching, the research assesses the probability that poor and the poorest households will participate in the 4Ps program.
