Resumen
The texture of electrodeposits vary with deposition conditions. Electrodeposits texture is also related to microstructure, surface morphology and mechanical properties. When the electrodeposits annealed, the recrystallization texture may be different from the original deposition texture. The surface morphology, the microstructure and the initial and recrystallization textures of nickel electrodeposits vary with deposition conditions. The 〈100〉 and 〈110〉 textures of nickel electrodeposits can be obtained from nickel sulfate, nickel chloride and boric acid baths. The size of surface asperities decreases with increasing current density and decreasing temperature. The 〈100〉 and 〈110〉 textures of nickel electrodeposits changed to the 〈100〉 and 〈310〉 texture, when recrystallized, respectively.

Resumen
Carbon encapsulated nickel nanoparticles (CENNPs) with high purity were fabricated by laser ablation of nickel target in ethanol. The size of CENNPs varies from tens to hundreds of nanometers, and CENNPs show two kinds of typical morphologies i. e. a nickel core with a carbon shell or a nickel core with two carbon shells. Transmission electron microscopy indicated that the CENNPs formed as a result of laser evaporation of the nickel target and the decomposition of ethanol, whose carbon atoms mixed with the nickel vapor, and Ni/C liquid droplets appeared during the cooling stage. The carbon shells formed by precipitation of carbon atoms on the surface of the nickel cores led to the formation of CENNPs.

Resumen
The present study investigated the effect of copper and nickel together on ductile iron. Ductile iron was produced by the sandwich method using induction furnace installed at local commercial foundry. Heats without copper & nickel and with copper 0.5 wt% and 1.0 wt% nickel in combination were made. Tensile samples were machined from Y Block castings. Tensile test was performed to find out the effect of copper and nickel together on tensile strength of ductile iron. Effect of austempering heat treatment was also studied to find out the effect of copper and nickel in combination on tensile strength. The samples were austenitized at 900 oC for one hour and austempered at 270 oC and 370 oC. It was found that with the addition of copper and nickel the tensile strength of ductile iron increased. The tensile strength was more than double when the samples were subjected to austempering heat treatment at 270°C.

Resumen
The development of growth techniques aimed at the fabrication of nanoscale heterostructures with layers of ferroic 3dmetals on semiconductor substrates is very important for their potential usage in magnetic media recording applications. A structural study is presented of single-crystal nickel island ensembles grown epitaxially on top of CaF2/Si insulator-on-semiconductor heteroepitaxial substrates with (111), (110) and (001) fluorite surface orientations. The CaF2buffer layer in the studied multilayer system prevents the formation of nickel silicide, guides the nucleation of nickel islands and serves as an insulating layer in a potential tunneling spin injection device. The present study, employing both direct-space and reciprocal-space techniques, is a continuation of earlier research on ferromagnetic 3dtransition metals grown epitaxially on non-magnetic and magnetically ordered fluorides. It is demonstrated that arrays of stand-alone faceted nickel islands with a face-centered cubic lattice can be grown controllably on CaF2surfaces of (111), (110) and (001) orientations. The proposed two-stage nickel growth technique employs deposition of a thin seeding layer at low temperature followed by formation of the islands at high temperature. The application of an advanced three-dimensional mapping technique exploiting reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED) has proved that the nickel islands tend to inherit the lattice orientation of the underlying fluorite layer, though they exhibit a certain amount of {111} twinning. As shown by scanning electron microscopy, grazing-incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXD) and grazing-incidence small-angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS), the islands are of similar shape, being faceted with {111} and {100} planes. The results obtained are compared with those from earlier studies of Co/CaF2epitaxial nanoparticles, with special attention paid to the peculiarities related to the differences in lattice structure of the deposited metals: the dual-phase hexagonal close-packed/face-centered cubic lattice structure of cobalt as opposed to the single-phase face-centered cubic lattice structure of nickel.

Resumen
Adsorption of nitic oxide molecules NO on the surface of structurally ordered 1, 2 and 3 monolayer thick nickel films deposited onto W(110) surface has been studied by means of reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy. The structure of nickel films at all thicknesses studied corresponds to Ni(111) crystal. The IR spectra of NO molecules adsorbed on a 3 monolayer Ni film correspond to those of NO on bulk Ni(111) crystal. At lower film thickness there are differences more pronounced for a monolayer film. This is due to additional effect of underlying W(110) support upon the intramolecular NO bond, and/or to some distortion of (111) structure of monolayer film, compared to bulk Ni(111), because of potential relief of the substrate and, consequently, change of adsorption geometry and electron state of NO molecules.

Resumen
In the present work, the electrochemical corrosion tests were performed on single-crystal nickel and chromium with different surface orientations having (100), (110), and (111) facets, in a MgCl2-KCl eutectic molten salt at 500oC under an argon atmosphere. The corrosion rate of Ni is lower than that of Cr, indicating that Ni is electrochemically more stable than Cr in the molten salt. The anodic corrosion rates of different single crystals increase in the order of (111) < (100) < (110). This observation shows that the degree of electrochemical stability is related to the coordination of surface atoms and lower density surfaces yield higher corrosion rates. In addition, the corrosion rate of a polycrystalline sample is similar to that of the single-crystal (110) sample, which suggests that the corrosion rate of the polycrystalline surface is dominated by the orientation with the lowest surface density. This work was supported as part of the Molten Salts in Extreme Environments Energy Frontier Research Center, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Science. Resumen
This work presents a comprehensive investigation of the piezoresistive response of a metal-polymer composite for robotic tactile sensor application. Composite samples, based on nickel nanostructured conductive filler in a polydimetihylsiloxane (PDMS) insulating elastomeric matrix, were prepared changing several process parameters like thickness, composition of the polymer and nickel filler content. A variation of electric resistance up to nine orders of magnitude under applied uniaxial load was measured in the fabricated samples. Cost efficient materials, simplicity of the process, large sensibility, and harsh environment compatibility make this quantum tunnelling composite adapted to be integrated as sensing coating in space robotic applications.

Resumen
The interaction of myelin basic protein with Nickel ions was studied by Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC) at in tris buffer, pH=7. The enthalpies of MBP+Ni2+interaction are reported and analysed in term of the new solvation theory. It was found that MBP has three identical and cooperative binding sites for Ni2+ions. The dissociation equilibrium constant and the molar enthalpy of binding are 75.015 µM, -14.815 kJmol-1. The binding parameters recovered from the new equation, attributed to the structural change of MBP and its biological activity due to metal ion interaction. The binding of nickel ions cause some changes in stability of MBP at low and high Ni2+concentrations.

Resumen
The interaction of water molecules on a nickel surface was studied using ReaxFF (reactive force field) molecular dynamics. This approach was originally developed by van Duinet al.to study the hydrocarbon chemistry and the catalytic properties of organic compounds. To our knowledge, this method has not been used to study the corrosion processes of nickel exposed to water, which is what we set out to achieve in the present investigation. To do so, calculations were first performed using ReaxFF in order to reproduce certain well-known properties of pure nickel and nickel-water systems. This allowed us to study the adsorption of a single water molecule interacting with an optimized nickel surface. We also investigated the interaction of 405 molecules of water (ρ=0.99 g.cm-3) on the (100), (110) and (111) surfaces of a single crystal of nickel at 300 K. The results show that a water bilayer is adsorbed on nickel surfaces: the first water layer is directly bonded to the surface, whereas the molecules in the first and second layers are held together by hydrogen bonds.

Resumen
Ab-intio investigations of atomic and molecular oxygen on TiNi(110) surface are performed by using the projector augmented wave method with generalized gradient approximation for the exchange-correlation functional. Our results confirm the formation of a Ni-rich interface TiO2(100)/TiNi(110), for which the formation energies (Hf) of point defects at the interfacial layers were estimated. It is shown that Hf of swap Ti-Ni defect has a lower energy than that for the Ni antisites at the interfacial layers. The formation energies of point defects in bulk TiNi, monoclinic TiO, and rutile TiO2 are also calculated. Our results demonstrate that Hf of Ni-antisites in TiO is twice less than that in TiO2. The formation of small Ni clusters is also discussed.

Resumen
Nickel linear nanostructures were synthesized by reduction of nickel formate with hydrazine hydrate in ethylene glycol medium in the absence of any surfactants or capping agents for direction of the particles growth. The effect of the synthesis conditions such as temperature, reduction time, type of polyol, and nickel formate concentration on the reduction products was studied. The size and morphology of the nickel nanowires were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning, and transmission electron microscopy. It was shown that the nickel nanocrystallites were wire-shaped with a face-center-cubic phase. Ethylene glycol was found to play a crucial role in the formation of the nickel nanowires. The possible growth processes of the wire-shaped particles taking place at 110 and 130°C are discussed. It was shown that, under certain synthesis conditions, nickel nanowires grow on the surface of the crystals of the solid intermediate of nickel with hydrazine hydrate.

Resumen
The normal growth rate, the steepness of polygonized growth hillocks and the velocity of step movement on the (110) faces of potassium cobalt–nickel sulphate crystals in aqueous solutions with cobalt to nickel ratios of 1:1 and 1:2 were investigated as a function of supersaturation by the geometry of growth hillocks using laser interferometry. It was found that the morphologies of growth hillocks on the (110) faces of the crystals grown from 1:1 and 1:2 solutions are similar and that the growth hillocks are formed by multiple screw dislocation sources. The experimental data on the growth kinetics of the (110) faces of the crystals were analyzed by using the Burton–Cabrera–Frank theory. It was found that (1) there is a critical supersaturation for the growth of the (110) faces, and the value of this supersaturation in the 1:2 solution is higher than that in the 1:1 solution, and (2) the kinetic coefficient of the step movement in the sectors of growth hillocks is highly anisotropic, and the values of this coefficient are larger in 1:2 solution than in 1:1 solution. These results are discussed in the presented work.
