Resumen
This study focuses on the framing theory as a lens to analyze the coverage and frames of political parties by two prominent news channels, Dunya News and Geo News. A comprehensive content analysis spanning over three months was conducted to assess the frequency, story types, frames, and tone of news coverage related to political leaders from 1st Sep 2023 to 20th Dec 2023 through purposive sampling. For this purpose, five themes, party manifesto, and plans, leader’s character, past performance of the party, voting worth, bias, and victimization were designed to explore the study’s objectives. The findings indicate a notable disparity in the salience given to political parties, with both news channels showing a higher emphasis on PMLN compared to PTI and PPP. Furthermore, the results reveal that Nawaz Sharif, received more favorable coverage from both news channels, followed by Imran Khan. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari receives comparable coverage to Imran Khan on Dunya News but notably less on Geo News. Additionally, the majority of the stance from these news channels leans in favor of PMLN leader Nawaz Sharif, while PTI leader Imran Khan tends to receive a more negative stance across both channels. A frames-wise analysis uncovers that Dunya News provides a more diverse range of perspectives when portraying political leaders, encompassing frames such as party manifesto, party previous performance, and voting worth, in contrast to Geo News, which maintains a more consistent distribution of emphasis across different frames. Findings also revealed that Nawaz Sharif’s frames prominently centered on the manifesto category. On the other hand, Imran Khan received coverage under the attributes of leaders’ character while party performance was a common attribute covered related to politicians.

This study combines two research methods to explore how female leaders are portrayed in the news in Vietnam, and Vietnamese journalists’ perception of female and male leaders. Content analysis indicated that female leaders are under- and misrepresented. Female leader sources seldom appear in the news. When they do, they are more likely to be interviewed on traditionally feminine issues. Survey findings demonstrated that gender stereotypes are pervasive among journalists, influencing their perception of news sources. Journalists believe male sources possess stronger work-oriented and agentic traits while female sources are more socially oriented and communal. Results confirmed role congruity theory’s applicability in studying media in a non-Western country.

Resumen
This study explored relations between COVID-19 news source, trust in COVID-19 information source, and COVID-19 health literacy in 194 STEM-oriented adolescents and young adults from the US and the UK. Analyses suggest that adolescents use both traditional news (e.g., TV or newspapers) and social media news to acquire information about COVID-19 and have average levels of COVID-19 health literacy. Hierarchical linear regression analyses suggest that the association between traditional news media and COVID-19 health literacy depends on participants’ level of trust in their government leader. For youth in both the US and the UK who used traditional media for information about COVID-19 and who have higher trust in their respective government leader (i.e., former US President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson) had lower COVID-19 health literacy. Results highlight how youth are learning about the pandemic and the importance of not only considering their information source, but also their levels of trust in their government leaders.

This article explores the implications for female politicians of the gendered nature of news coverage. An analysis of the language used in television news coverage of the English-language leaders' debates in the Canadian federal elections of 1993, 1997 and 2000 confirms that the debates are framed in stereotypically masculine ways as battles, sporting events or back street brawls. When the news coverage is compared with the leaders' actual behaviour in the debates, it is clear that the coverage focuses disproportionately on combative displays of behaviour by female party leaders, but tends to ignore the women when they adopt a more low-key style, especially when the novelty of a female leader has worn off.

Resumen
Abstract: Research on gender bias is always interesting and can continue research related to other fields. One is the study of gender bias in reporting women leaders in the mass media. The social construction in Indonesia distinguishes men and women. Megawati Soekarnoputri is a female leader known as the first and only female President in Indonesia. This study uncovers the news content of two newspapers in Indonesia, namely Kompas and Kedaulatan Rakyat, during Megawati's presidency in the era 2001 - 2004. The researcher uses a content analysis method with the "pen pix" dimension by Cathy Jenkins. This study then interviewed two female journalists from Kompas and Kedaulatan Rakyat to confirm the findings of the news text research in the context of the news production process at the Kompas and Kedaulatan Rakyat editorial staff. The study results show that Kompas and Kedaulatan Rakyat are still gender-biased and focus more on the appearance and personal character of female politicians. The implications of this research are considered essential for media actors' guidelines to maintain gender equality between women and men as news subjects through the choice of news angles and news content flow. Resumen
The phenomenon of moral decline and the humanitarian crisis is now rampant and is happening everywhere. The act is not only done by teenagers, but by some parents and even leaders. This can be seen by the proliferation of corruption, the association of free sex, drugs, the spread of news about sheepfighting and hatred and hoax news that are very disturbing to the public. Even radical movements in the name of religion and ethnicity began to flourish. The purpose of this study is to unravel the theme of the urgency of the spirit of the leadership of jihad embedded in the success of education because education leaders now face very heavy challenges in the success of education. The research method used in the research is the type of library research. Based on the results of the conceptual study the urgency of the spirit of the jihad of a leader towards the success of education is found that a leader in his heart implanted the spirit of jihad for the success of education, then a leader will devote all his abilities seriously in doing something in good totality concerning life, emotions, energy, mind and knowledge and time and place for the success of education. This shows that the ideal education leader is a leader who has leadership talents who are strong, responsible and have a spirit of great jihad in carrying out his leadership duties, and still maintain noble character in his own personality.

Abstract Publics hold chief executives uniquely responsible for national well-being, and they learn about national conditions through news. But when news disproportionately covers problems, what happens to democratic accountability? Here, we experimentally test how leader approval changes when crime loses prominence in news for a sustained period. We create an online news environment coding real news in real time, then experimentally filter news for nationally diverse U.S. panelists over 1 week. We find causal evidence that reducing crime news raises presidential approval and depresses problem importance evaluations for crime. No other leaders are credited, and reducing all problems produces no further gains. These effects persist well after exposure but dissipate within a week. We conclude with broad implications for journalism and democratic judgment.

Resumen
The conventional wisdom derived from the two-step flow theory suggests that opinion leaders have great influence on their followers. However, it has been difficult for social scientists to measure and describe the extent to which political opinion leaders influence voters, especially when voters today access multiple information sources like communication networks and self-selected news media. This paper fills this gap by using agent-based modeling to represent what the two-step flow theory describes about opinion leader influence and refines the theory based on the findings. First, opinion leader influence does not diffuse to the public without homogeneous communication networks. Second, opinion leader influence usually does not diffuse widely to the public because it inevitably faces resistance from self-strengthening communication networks.

Resumen
The image of a political leader is considered as a discursive phenomenon, structured by a set of practices. Two practices bring together the images of Stalin and Putin: 1) use of specific nominations of a leader; 2) reproduction of laudatory slogans addressed to a leader. The gatekeeping practices and the content of leaders’ images in considered discourses are fundamentally different. The modern Russian media select the most spectacular breaking news with the participation of Putin and construct the star image, well sold to the Russian consumer. Soviet media refuse any sensationalism, covering only official and routine events with the participation of Stalin. So the contradiction is revealed between the ordinary actions of the leader and the endless praise for Stalin as a deified father.

Resumen
This study uses a qualitative approach that aims to examine the government's crisis leadership during the early period of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. The COVID-19 pandemic is a crisis that requires appropriate and fast handling from the government as a leader. Leaders must have crisis leadership characteristics in order to get out of crisis situations. The unit of analysis for this research is the December 2, 2020 edition of Kompas.com, entitled “9 Bulan Pandemi Covid-19, Apa yang Salah dengan Penanganan di Indonesia.” Through this news, Kompas.com media is trying to evaluate the government's performance in dealing with COVID-19 in Indonesia. The news text is analyzed using Robert N. Entman's framing analysis model as a data analysis method, which consists of four main elements, namely define problems, diagnose cause, make moral judgment and treatment recommendation. The results show that the three indicators described in the news illustrate that from March to December 2020, the government is considered not to have the characteristics of a crisis leader, namely being responsive, implementing performance management (rewards and consequences) and having good articulation in conveying communication.

Resumen
Despite the biological predisposition to recognize and mimic facial expressions, research has shown that contextual or experiential factors may elicit emotionally incongruent, or counterempathic, responses. This experimental study reports how counterempathic responses to televised leader displays may be evoked in political communication. Findings suggest that unexpected nonverbal communication is subject to cognitive appraisal, which may influence emotional responding. Subjects were shown a series of four news stories, each followed by a 30-second televised reaction of President Bill Clinton. The story–reaction sequences varied by story topic, level of emotion and degree of leader display appropriateness. Physiological (heart rate, skin conductance and facial muscle activation, or EMG) and emotional self-report measures indicated that evaluations of display appropriateness moderated how much attention was given to the display, the affective direction of viewers’ facial muscle activation and the level of autonomic activation, or arousal. The EMG data showed that viewers frowned in response to positive expressive displays that followed positive news. Smiling activation also decreased for high-intensity, positive displays. By manipulating the valence and intensity of the associated news event, facial mimicry, and emotional responses to leaders generally, are shown to be situationally influenced by the larger social and informational context.

Resumen
Choosing a quality leader, especially a political leader, depends on the information that voters receive in the election process. Two important components that play a role in providing information are political parties and the mass media. Between these two components, the mass media holds an important key. Therefore this study aims to determine the management of news coverage in the mass media; how about the news, especially published political news, is processed ethically within the framework of management functions in general. This research was conducted at AJI Kupang City using a qualitative approach. Observations and interviews, supported by scientific references, are techniques for obtaining and analyzing data. The results of the study show that news management in the mass media is generally in line with management functions. The problem is in the online media. In online media, news management does not function properly due to limited human resources. Field studies show that the media and journalists are caught up in ethical issues when reporting on political events; especially news about prospective political leaders. The mass media and journalists are trapped in a decision that violates the journalistic code of ethics by siding with a particular candidate. This partiality can be seen in every report regarding a candidate who is supported by other candidates. Self-integrity is the reason journalists are trapped in this problem. As a solution, researchers offer a management model that is expected to minimize violations of journalistic ethics. The news management model in applying management functions, pays attention to the following elements: 1) Issue exploration team, 2) Supervisory Board, 3) Complaint Center, 4) Education and Training implementing agency, 5) Technical Rules

Purpose Employees are affected by the interpersonal treatment received from leaders (i.e. interactional justice), especially when being informed of negative outcomes (Brockner, 2010). Although respectful treatment may be expected from leaders generally, little is known about when leaders are more likely to display interactional justice and whether less interactional justice might be acceptable under certain circumstances. Drawing on reciprocity theory (e.g. Gouldner, 1960), and leader–member exchange (LMX) theory (e.g. Gerstner and Day, 1997), the purpose of this paper is to test the hypothesis that employees who are disrespectful and inconsiderate toward their supervisors (i.e. who are themselves interactionally unjust) would and should receive less interactional justice when being informed of a negative outcome. Design/methodology/approach The authors conducted three experimental studies (Ns=87, 47 and 114), in the context of leaders communicating a layoff decision to their subordinates. Findings The results supported the predictions albeit the effect of subordinate interactional justice on supervisor justice was modest, yet consistent, across studies. Research limitations/implications The findings are consistent with reciprocity theory and the LMX literature and suggest that leader actions when communicating bad news are dependent on employee conduct. Limitations of the studies include a primary reliance on students as participants and the measurement of behavioral intentions rather than behavior. Originality/value The studies are among the first to examine interactional injustice perpetrated by subordinates toward their leaders, and its impact on leader behavior when delivering negative outcomes. There is a paucity of literature understanding the causes of leader fairness behavior, in addition to a consideration of unfairness from perpetrators of lower positional power.

The aim of the article is to describe the functions of the opinion leader and he or she performs. The news portal „Delfi.lt“ articles from the year 2013, in which the most popular (according to the data of the survey company TNS LT) opinion leaders express their views serve as a basis in the article. Theoretical presumptions that their personal opinions shape the public opinion, affect social decisions and actions, are applied. Although the opinion leaders achieve popularity firstly through social activeness; however, for the purpose of persuasiveness an important role is attributed to linguistic peculiarities. In many cases, they determine the aspects the readers are to notice and remember. A person working towards becoming an opinion leader must meet the requirements of media channels, observe the general oratory requirements (language regularity, purity, clarity, simplicity, consistency, vividness, appropriateness, and aesthetic appeal), and fulfil the main functions of his or her text: to explain, prove, and persuade.

Abstract To say that Nigeria is yet to be met with great and good news of feats and development since after independence is not an exaggeration. The true face is that the little the colonial masters did before they handed over is what we have enjoyed. Now most of them have dilapidated. There is no sign of a better future. One wonders what happened to Nigerian Telecommunications. There was a time we have phone boots on the streets. With a coin one can conveniently make calls. Fax machines were available in offices for private and public use. One can even send a telegram. To say that GSM and internet replaced them is an escapist manoeuvre. Think of Lagos Main Land Bridges, Niger Bridge, trains etc. People attribute the cause to corruption. The leaders are singled out as corrupt. But who are the leaders? People tend to limit their searchlight to the president, Senators and governors. Evidently, they are not the managers of parastatals. They are not the law enforcement agencies etc. Yet, the truth is still obvious that a good leader can always push his subjects to a set vision and mission. What Nigeria needs is a servant leader. This paper is structured to examine in the main, the concept of the Servant of God, a servant leader as envisioned by Prophet Isaiah in what is popularly known as the Servant Songs. It is the belief of the researcher that a leader of such calibre is what Nigeria needs even in her recession to move forward.

Resumen
This study analyzed Imran Khan as the populist leader’s ranking in Pakistan’s media prior to and after becoming Prime Minister of Pakistan. The election was held in 2018, and Imran Khan was considered the most popular leader among the people of Pakistan. The content analysis of four mainstream English Newspapers (Express Tribune, DAWN, The News International, and The Nation) was carried out. The total number of news stories framed in four newspapers was 1158 (N=1158). The study aimed to analyze the ranking of the popularity frames of Imran Khan in newspapers. For this purpose, popularity frame's categories were operationalized into five themes, Personality, People’s Leader, The Savior, Poise Reformer, and Crisis Manager. These were further divided into ten subthemes with negative and positive connotations attached. The findings revealed that the hypothesis, “ranking of Imran Khan’s popularity prior to election in 2018 is higher than after election in Newspaper of Pakistan,” is not supported, i.e., Spearman correlation rs (ρ) =.125 and value of p=.568, that is not significant at level 0.05. Resumen
The paper is devoted to the study of the symbolic field of modern public policy in the context of the rapid digitalization of society. The purpose of the article is to consider the content of the image of one of the modern political leaders and to identify the presence/absence of the networking effect in it, manifested in the polythematic and heterarchy of themes presented in the image, its situationality and variability. As an example, the image of the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region G.S. Nikitin is considered in the study. With the help of qualitative and quantitative content-analysis, the author studies an information array of data, which includes news reports posted on the website of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, where there is a reference of the head of the region. The sample size was 710 news posted between November 27, 2021 and June 9, 2022. The semantic unit of analytical observation in the course of textual analysis has become an image-role construct, which is a relevant tool-concept for studying the political image. Based on the results of the analysis, it was concluded that the content of the image of a political leader is polythematic and that there is no one, absolutely dominant theme in it. Among the most frequent are the following image-role constructs - «business executive», «team player», «organizer, «leader looking to the future», «open leader who hears society», «leader who is aware of various details of current problems» and «crisis manager». In terms of content and meaning, the filling of the image of a political subject is also influenced by the situational factor, which determines not only the list of emerging image-role constructs, but also the frequency of their occurrence. Thus, the content of the modern political image can be represented as a logical and semantic configuration of interconnected image-role constructs subject to the influence of the effect of networking.

It offers a theoretical framework to understand what may prevent or facilitate the emergence of female leaders. Design/methodology/approach The paper reviews and synthesises recent research on the linkages between gender and leadership. Findings The review extends Eagly and Karau’s (2002) role congruity theory by identifying additional constructs that may alleviate negative prejudicial evaluations and offering new insights into the potential alignment between feminine traits and leadership success. Practical implications The theoretical framework that emerged in this paper may be used as a heuristic model to contextually examine the lack of female leaders. Originality/value The paper proposes a theoretical framework to understand issues related to the emergence of female leaders. It offers news insights into possible alignment in female-leader role stereotypes that may address prejudicial evaluations against female leaders.

Jokowi’s image as a leader is populist-nasionalist. However, there were some contradictory news with the related image in the social media, which is released in December 2016 until January 2017. This research aims to explore those distorted news. It is revealed that the government media framing did not dominate the social media. The news were interpreted or added in accordance with the viewer’s interest that leads to a hoax. This research reinforces Barthes, Baudrillard, and Eco that the era of social media brings the death of reality.

Resumen
The advance of populism in Europe and the positioning of this type of politics on the Web are both facts substantiated by scientific research. In this connection, a platform like Twitter serves as a stage for dissemination, interaction, mobilisation and building the personality of influencer/leaders and as a strategic tool for the selection of issues and for propaganda and fake news. The main objective is to know the impact that this communication model has on both digital users and the media, particularly in electoral processes. To this end, a quantitative-qualitative comparative content analysis, which studies the issue frame and the game frame, is performed on the personal Twitter accounts of Marine Le Pen (@MLP_officiel), the leader of Rassemblement National (RN) in France, Matteo Salvini (@matteosalvinimi), the leader of Liga Norte (LN) in Italy, and Santiago Abascal (@Santi_ABASCAL), the leader of Vox in Spain. In the context of the European elections held on the 26 May 2019, a sample of 2,187 tweets, user metrics (‘likes,’ retweets and comments) and their reproduction in the digital newspapers @lemondefr, @repubblica and @el_país are analysed. The initial results evince a strategic use of online tools, with a media and public response that reproduces the populist discourse of the far-right, to the point of making it go viral.

<p><em>To realize the Pancasila Student Profile, the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology issued one of the Independent Learning Program policies, namely the "Sekolah Penggerak". "Sekolah Penggerak" is implemented by strengthening the capacity roles of principals and driving teachers. The principal is a learning leader in each academic unit who is expected to move the school by collaborating with stakeholders to realize a student-centred school. "Guru Penggerak" are learning leaders who apply independent learning and move the entire educational ecosystem to realize learner-centred education. Becoming a learning leader as a "Sekolah Penggerak" Principal or "Guru Penggerak" requires a new paradigm shift. There is one Javanese local wisdom that can be actualized as a leadership model, namely Astha Brata . This research is a descriptive study by examining the actualization of Astha Brata 's leadership to realize the Pancasila Student Profile in the "Sekolah Penggerak". The method used is literature study through books, journals related documents and news/online. Study results show that Astha Brata 's leadership values are still relevant and can be actualized to answer the challenges of being a school principal and "Guru Penggerak", who is expected to become a learning leader to realize the Pancasila Student Profile.</em></p>

Resumen
To correct misinformation and mitigate the social costs of political rumors and fake news, news providers, politicians, and researchers have exerted significant efforts on fact-checking and rumor debunking. This study examined how individuals will respond when a political rumor is debunked by large-scale fact-checking. To explore this question, we leveraged a quasi-experimental setting where the North Korean leader’s reappearance in the public event suddenly rebutted a political rumor about his death. Collecting 2.6 million comments from the largest online news portal in South Korea, we employed a difference-in-differences approach comparing differences in commenting behaviors between liberals and conservatives before and after this event. The results show that a political side empowered by the fact-checking coverage became more vocal and hostile. However, their explicit support level for the rumor did not change significantly compared to their partisan counterparts. Besides, we found that news outlets rebutted by fact-checking attracted more user comments than supported news outlets. Swearing comments of the supported political side mostly drove this difference, suggesting that partisans tend to utilize favorable fact-checking to empower their political side through blaming the other side. Our research stresses the importance of capturing the silence of partisans in considering the effectiveness of fact-checking and provides an alternative explanation on why fact-checking evokes hostile communication in online media.

Rhetoric and the politician’s political style are some of his/her most important tools and the technological and media revolution, mobile devices and social networks, have further emphasized their importance. The social networks help politicians to target a very circumscribed audience with their rhetoric, while mobile devices enable them to retain contact with their supporters and to exhibit their political style, in this instance populism. The article examines the speeches of the leader of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians Party (AUR), a new national-populist Romanian party, through the perspective of Chaim Perelman’s New Rhetoric and the populist style. The theory developed around the concept of fake news was also used in the development of the argument. According to this theory, the latest developments in the communication industry boosted the fake-news phenomenon, which, in turn, helped the populist leaders. The article is divided into four parts, each part addressing the theory around the new rhetoric; the theory of political style, i.e. populism; the qualitative case study; and the conclusions.

The networkization of the modern field of public policy is studied in the paper. With the help of the information society theory and the image-role construct concept, the content of the image of the regional leader - the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region G.S. Nikitin is analyzed in the research. A qualitative-quantitative type of content analysis was chosen as the main empirical method of research, and the information array of data was made up of news reports from the Website of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Government. According to the results of the study, the presence in the image of a political leader of a number of meaningful and semantic constructs was established, among which the most used were the following: «economic manager», «team player», «initiator», «leader looking to the future», «crisis manager», «a leader who is aware of the various details of current problems» and others. Based on a number of features of the symbolic and semantic content (polythematicity, heterarchy of themes, situationality and variability), the authors made a conclusion about the network nature of the political leader image.

Resumen
AbstractThis article explores public knowledge creation by examining how the New York Times produced Pakistan news between 1954 and 1971, the formative period of United States of America (USA)–Pakistan relations. These years encapsulate not only the heyday of cooperation between the two governments, but also the American public's first major introduction to the South Asian country by the increasingly intrepid news media. A leader in shaping that introduction was the New York Times. While most studies of the American media focus on measuring the effect of news exposure and content on public opinion, this article focuses on the theoretically underexplored aspect of news production: foreign news gathering. With a lens on South Asia, it shows that foreign news gathering involves the straddling of on-the-ground political and logistical constraints that generate an atmosphere of high uncertainty. By exploring the limitations on news gathering faced by America's leading newspaper's foreign correspondents in Pakistan in the 1950s and 1960s, this article identifies an important historical source of the ambiguity characterizing USA–Pakistan relations. The findings are based on recently released archival material that offers rare insight into the news-production process.

Abstract Drawing on social and cognitive models of news frame theory and argumentative approach to political discourse analysis, we studied how a declaration made by an Iranian general about revoking the citizenship of Bahrain uprising movement’s leader was selectively translated and reframed in 7 English news websites. The findings revealed that the reframed texts, on the one hand, suppressed the values and circumstantial premises of the declaration, and on the other hand, reframed the text in such a way that portrayed Iran as an interventionist seeking sectarianism in Bahrain. This study indicated that what underwent shift were not just arbitrary words and phrases; rather, the whole frame was reconfigured according to the interests of the news websites. In this process, selective translations were merely used as incontrovertible proof to support the frame buttressed by the target news websites.

The phenomenon of power in Yogyakarta attracted the attention of various groups, including the national media when differences of opinion emerged regarding the requirements for candidates for Governor and Deputy Governor candidates of the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The Governor of Yogyakarta is directly held by the Sultan as the King of the Yogyakarta Palace in accordance with the Yogyakarta Privileges Law. The problem arose when Sultan HB X did not have a son, and some parties interpreted the special law and regional regulations requiring that the governor of Yogyakarta be held, male. This problem has attracted the national media to produce news texts related to the pros and cons of women leaders in Yogyakarta. This research intends to uncover how the national media of Kompas daily constructs discourses on the rejection of female leaders and how the struggle for public acceptance or ideological ideas related to leadership succession in Yogyakarta. With a qualitative approach, the method used in this study is Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis model. News texts related to the issue of leadership succession were analyzed starting from the text level, discourse level, and sociocultural level. The results of the study found that the production of the Kompas daily news text in practice represents a group that rejects female leaders in Yogyakarta. Local political elites in parliament, Keraton aristocrats, and Sultan HB X mutually defend their views on women's rights to become leaders in Yogyakarta. Kompas Daily provides a space for discourse on the issue of women's rejection to represent their side of those who reject women leaders

This article aims to contribute to EU PD scholarship and practice by studying the images and perceptions of the EU among news media professionals in Asia (findings from twelve Asian locations in the north-east, south, and south-east of the continent).A systematic analysis of the newsmakers' perceptions of the EU is doubly beneficial - firstly, it displays an insight into the world view of a powerful cohort of stakeholders in the region, and secondly, it explores the visions and attitudes that may stand behind choices in EU news selection and news writing. Findings of this survey of EU external images are discussed using basic typology of PD and its category of listening in particular.

Resumen
From a corporate-side perspective, the communication of reputational actions and news of companies becomes critical for success. However, in communication, business, and management studies, heuristics can be understood as simple cognitive processes that allow assessments, predictions, and decisions to be made quickly and efficiently by consumers and economic agents. This aspect can sometimes lead to cognitive biases, especially when little information is available or in situations of high uncertainty. The aim of this research is to investigate the influence of heuristic judgments in social media on corporate reputation ratings obtained in Spanish leader companies. Using data collected in Spain, this paper analyzes the influence of heuristics concerning news items on corporate reputation, measured by the Monitor Empresarial de Reputación Corporativa (MERCO) Index. The main finding of this paper is that the total number of news items has a positive effect on corporate reputation, particularly in the categories of culture-values, results/image, expansion, and sponsorship/donations. Additionally, this work serves as a repository of knowledge applicable to similar situations considering the specificities of each particular case. The importance to intervene on certain variables at different levels of managerial performance is described and implications for companies are discussed in these pages.

Television is customarily put forward as a driver of the “personalization of politics.” The characteristics of this visual medium arguably accentuate personality at the expense of substantive programmatic goals, downplaying partisan attachments and ideology as determinants of the vote in favor of candidate and party leader assessments. While there is evidence of this trend for presidential democracies, notably the United States, this linkage is yet to be fully explored for parliamentary democracies undergoing a process of personalization. This study addresses this gap through an analysis of pooled national election study data from thirteen Western European parliamentary democracies collected between 1982 and 2016. Our results show that leader effects are significantly stronger among individuals with a television-dominant media diet. The findings provide support to the yet underdeveloped theoretical relationship between media change and the personalization of politics, while also speaking to the broader question involving the importance of media for contemporary democratic elections.

Resumen
The issue of leadership as a phenomenon began in the 19th century and we even witness an earlier theory from 1885-1795 that was developed by the historian Thomas Carlyle, he called it the “Great Man” theory. This theory represents the leader as a different person from the rest of mortals, because this theory saw the leader as a messenger bearing the good news. And that he has the capacity and ability in his personality to shape the masses and turn them into society (the full range model of leadership. Leaders who have the capacity for leadership and action are the ones who will succeed in reaching the potential of the organization or society. From this theory arose another called the “trait approach” because it described the leader as a person with exceptional qualities. Later in the 1940s, the theory called “the situational approach” was developed. This theory focused on the behavior of the leader and not on his qualities, but this approach had drawbacks, like, if the leader is not able to shape himself then how can he motivate his people in his organization. That is why the search began for a strong model in leadership, which does not follow or according to the situation. Look for a theory that will have a character that will present its goals clearly, a theory that on the one hand can lead and promote the customs to the goals of the organization and on the other hand it shapes the situation. This model is expressed in the name “ Transformational leadership” according to Burns 1978. Although there are many definitions of leadership, the principles of leadership in organizations are focused on the execution and promotion of processes whose principle and purpose are to lead in the design and determination of policy and its implementation. These processes include planning, defining procedures, building a vision and making decisions. This chain of events is also used by the road leader in motivating and leading his followers and encouraging them, because he instills in them the belief in their high ability. The leader always makes sure to act together in order to achieve a common goal (Bass 1990, Stogdill 1950, Bryman 1996, House 1971) and to solve problems together and not to rely on the skills of individuals, therefore the focus of leadership is on empowerment and not on control.

Resumen
As the first female president in Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen’s actions and words are crucial to the advancement of gender equality within the Chinese patriarchal society. Likewise, the media also have a role in shaping gender discourse which may or may not support the president’s attempt at empowering women in politics and other sectors of life. This paper examined the linguistic strategy used by President Tsai to represent herself as a strong female leader through her official statements and how the media represented her in their reports. The data were collected from local news reports and international news portals, and from her speeches as quoted by the media, starting from the year she was elected in 2016 to 2018. Using Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis, it was apparent that President Tsai struggled with her role as a female leader in politics, with critics from persisting patriarchal society and pressure from emerging new values in Taiwan. The media, on the other hand, was divided in making representations for and against Tsai. The conclusion of this research is hoped to give a general description of gender and political dynamics under the new era of Tsai Ing-wen.

Resumen
This concept paper aimed to understand how stigma, a concept usually associated with negative social relationships, in the context of a pandemic threat such as COVID-19 can, in some situations, structure a charismatic social relationship in a perceived positive association between stigma and a specific social characteristic. For this purpose, we used the example of the news selected and highlighted by several Portuguese media about the actions and messages developed by President Trump in the context of his infection with SARS-CoV-2 and the subsequent recovery process. These news reports gave visibility to a narrative that can be considered as reinforcing the legitimization of his condition as a charismatic leader in an electoral context marked by the pandemic threat. In conclusion, stigma associated with a pandemic health threat and generally linked to a negative social status can also reinforce admiration, trust, and belief in the charismatic leader by supporters and followers, as demonstrated with the plight of President Trump. Stigma can be a factor in social uplift in affirming an upward trajectory of social status and symbolic power for actors seen as ill, where stigma-motivated discrimination is experienced positively, unlike in most cases.

Political communication scholars have shown that nonverbal communication cues have the potential to influence political judgments. The bulk of this literature has focused on leader displays in the context of electoral politics. The study reported here aligns with that body of literature, but tests how facial displays of ordinary citizens might affect political participatory intentions among different demographic groups. The study reported here provides support for the idea that being exposed to audiovisual news that features emotional testimonies of people with firsthand experience of social issues encourages political participation. The findings from a mixed design experiment ( N = 80) examining story personalization, ideological strength, and education level offer evidence that participants from both higher and lower socioeconomic segments of society become equally motivated for political participation after viewing emotional testimony of fellow citizens. It is reasonable to start considering the potential of news that gives voice to ordinary people, showcasing their facial displays of emotion, for revitalizing the public sphere.

Resumen
Former United States President Ronald Reagan’s use of media and his charismatic connection with viewers earned him the moniker “the great communicator”. One aspect of his charisma, the influence of elicited laughter, during a highly critical 5-minute news story by CBS reporter Leslie Stahl during the 1984 US presidential election is examined here. Two experiments examining the effects of audience laughter on perceptions of charismatic leadership are reported. In the first experiment the effects of audience laughter in response to Reagan’s comments were investigated. Here, Reagan’s perceived warmth as an effective leader significantly diminished when strong laughter is removed, whereas perceptions of competence remained unaffected. The second study carried out on an older cohort replicated and extended the first in a pre-registered design by considering the perception of trait charisma. Here, the presence or absence of audience laughter did not affect judgements of charisma. Additionally, the affective response before, and then after, the presentation of the news story was measured. Emotions associated with a positive appraisal all decreased after being shown the news story while emotions associated negative appraisal all increased. However, only participant anger was significantly increased when audience laughter was removed. Taken together the findings of both studies converge on the fact that subtle changes in media presentation of political leaders can have a significant effect on viewers. The findings show that even after 40 years in office the social psychological effects of presidential charisma can still influence observers.
