Texto completoFerrara counts among the cities with which Piero Bottoni (1903-1973) has created a rich link, which allowed him to elaborate many projects and that has a constant presence all along the professional circuit of the author. Residing at the Este town in the first Thirties, he worked there during three successive decades developing projects that spread between the scale of internal forniture to urban projects; the nineteen projects examined, all placed in the city’s historic centre, have as a common subject the relationship among the new architecture and the existing city. Studying a large spectre of interventions that embraces projects based upon the existent buildings as well as new projects, Bottoni proposes a vision of architecture without disciplinary sub divisions, approaching restoration and new building as parts of a unitary projecting process. Upon this background, Ferrara’s culture between the two wars and after the war is characterized by the permanent attempt to give actuality to its own renaissance history, notwithstanding the political changes. With the contemporary presence during the Fifties and Sixties of Bottoni, Zevi, Pane, Michelucci, Piccinato e Samonà, Bassani a Ragghianti, all participating to the construction of the historiographic image of the Renaissance Ferrara, the characteristics of this cultural context melt into the central subjects of the Italian architectonical debate and the debate for the defence of historical centres. The analytical study of Bottoni’s Ferrarese works becomes thus the occasion to outline, on one side, the peculiar character of his architecture and, on the other side, to study a provincial cultural context with a view to show such points of contact among the personalities present at Ferrara in those years, to observe their reciprocal influence and to distinguish the exchanges occurred among the outstanding centres of Italian architectonic culture and a geographical environment only secondary in appearance.

Texto completoThis study offers a comparative overview of the poetics of Comportamento [behavior] that arose in Italy in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Such a feat can only start from a careful reexamination of the critical paradigm of Arte Povera, developed by Germano Celant between 1967 and 1971, both for the role of absolute centrality that it has played in that period and for the historical importance gradually conquered in the last decades through large exhibitions in high-prestige Italian and international galleries and museums. Faced with the "restricted" vision that the poverista critics monopoly offers today of that fertile season, we intend to offer a broader and more systematic vision that focuses on the values and variety of poetics compared to the sectarianism of the militant criticism of the time that, even today, influence and condition historiographic criticism. From this review we move on to the recovery of experiences that have skirted and anticipated the solutions of Arte Povera. We therefore examine the antiform and performative experiences of Eliseo Mattiacci and Paolo Icaro, as well as those of other autonomous personalities active in Italy such as Claudio Cintoli, Mario Nanni, Hidetoshi Nagasawa and Germano Olivotto, also reconstructing the situation of the Bentivoglio Studio in Bologna. An all-encompassing survey on Italian behavioral poetics finally allows us to identify shared operative typologies that go beyond the reductionism of Arte Povera: the processual and relational use of the photographic medium with Franco Vaccari, Luca Patella, Aldo Tagliaferro, Adriano Altamira, Ugo Mulas and others; the imaginative-symbolic use of language with Vincenzo Agnetti, Emilio Isgrò, Ketty La Rocca, Maurizio Nannucci, Bruno Di Bello and others, the performative materialization of the imaginary by Giuseppe Desiato, Fabio Mauri, Luigi Ontani, Cioni Carpi, Michele Zaza and the "individual mythologies" of Gino De Dominicis, Vettor Pisani and Claudio Parmiggiani.

Texto completoThe aim of this thesis is to investigate the relationship between politics and consumption in Italy during the 1970s, through the analysis of female, news and entertainment magazines, of sources collected in corporate archives (Eni and Fiat) and of sources related to the advertising world. The research started with the study of the 1973 oil crisis and the analysis of austerity policies and their consequences on customs and consumption; then it was extended to the 1980s, a decade famous for its 'hedonistic turn'. The analysis of the sources showed that consumption was a field of political confrontation for different parts of the Italian society, which supported or questioned, in different ways and to different degrees of radicality, how the political ruling classes managed the access to consumption. The case studies showed how consumer education and the access to information were subjected to a confrontation that resulted in an institutional formalisation of the action and rights of the consumers (an interpretation which became dominant). Analysing these mechanisms allows us to avoid a polarisation in which the consumer is either totally passive or is invested with an idealised progressive capacity. During the 1970s, as a matter of fact, the readings and perspectives on consumption were multiple and complex and also intertwined with current political events, such as political and economic scandals. Consumption issues emerged in connection with controversies related to political and economic elite, but also with topics such as the role of women in society and the environmental question. The analysis of some of these narratives, which emerged during the 1970s, both problematises the relationship between democracy and welfare and shows some of the stages on the path that led to today's definitions of consumption and consumer, which today are still politically relevant.

Texto completoThis doctoral dissertation analyzes the theme of the Family, one of the founding elements of pedagogical reflection, crossroads of a multiplicity of interpretive nucleuses with branching and contaminations, with Changes across historical periods represented in the pages of Classics of Children's literature and in the best contemporary's fiction books. It is a subject of great amplitude that entailed a choice of Authors who, in their novels have dealt with issues relating to the family in its plurality of its many meanings, from family life to the abandoned child, from childhoods without family to others families. In different historical epochs, their narratives have left an originality of interpretation that still tell stories of 'vie familiale'. From 19th-century's novels to sagas of fantasy's novels of the past fifty years, until the picturebook, the families’ stories may constitute a privileged educational and pedagogical material, that offers opportunities for discovery and knowledge of oneself and of the world, through which children's readers, cross the threshold to the mysterious everywhere, and also provides insights to scholars to study multiple and complex issues. The families’ stories often reflect critically the variations that can occur between the practices identified and studied by the humanities and social sciences and the metaphors offered by numerous narrative's Authors of children's literature. Offering a perspective often unsettling, they interpret reality thoroughly, taking the smaller and unnoticed details that have the ability to break the mold of socio-educational historical epoch in which the stories come to life.

Texto completoThe missions, on behalf of Italian government to United States of America from 1944 to 1947, are the subject of the first chapter of the present PhD thesis. The Italian government representatives held relationships with American businessmen, who are going to play a role in restarting the Italy-USA relationship. The second chapter is dedicated to the correspondences, from USA, of the Bank of Italy delegate, Giorgio Cigliana Piazza, from 1947 to 1949. Cigliana gave great attention to American public opinion. His correspondences allow us to study the American businessmen point of view on Italy. The third chapter is dedicated to World Bank. During the Nineties, the Italian historians, especially the experts of Southern-Italian history, had started to study the World Bank-Italy relationship. On our research we inquired into the World Bank-Italy relationship during the first years of Marshall Plan’s activity. We continued to study the World Bank management and the role of its President, Eugene R. Black. At last, we retreated the making loans iter to Italy and Jugoslavia in 1951. At the ending conclusions, we proponed the analysis of the World Bank archive source concerning Italy from 1952 to 1956.

Texto completoThe theme of the research is the analysis of the modernization of the province of Caserta; modernization is the term contemporary sciences use to mean « a process of change on a large scale which brings a particular society, generally a national one, to the characteristics that are considered peculiar to modernity». The province of Caserta, which had been abolished on 2nd January 1927, was set up again on 11th June 1945. Its territory, also known as Terra di Lavoro, had been deeply marked by the violence of war. The period which goes from 8th September 1943 to the liberation was dramatic for the inhabitants of the province. The German soldiers, who were retiring Northwords devasted much of the territory; they systematically sacked, requisioned food and livestock, they cut the communication lines to block the advanced of the allied troops. Morover they shot a large number of civilians; slaughters were committed at Bellona, Caiazzo, Sparanise, Marzano Appio, Conca Campania, Presenzano, as well as in smaller villages. The reprisals by the German troops of occupation, as well as the air raids by the Allied troops, set at zero the fragile production system of the province of Caserta. You have only to think that after the end of the war 1882 requests for war damages to the industries were made to the Inland Revenue Office, for a value of 1.964.808 millions of lire. The industrial activity started again in 1946 with some silk factories at san Leucio, shoe factories at Aversa, the brick works SAIL at Calvi Risorta, the bottling of mineral water by Ferrarelle at Riardo, and some pasta factories. In 1951 Caserta had a population of 601,272 inhabitants, the 60% of them were employed in agriculture. The manufacturing firms were 7050 with 17.609 employees. In the decade between 1951 and 1961 the employees in factories were the 31,6% however the 12% of the population was obliged to emigrate. The most numerous wage earners were the farm labourers; they worked hard and received very low wages. Their first labour contract was signed in 1954. It provided that the minimum wage had to be lire 750 ( with a maximum of lire 1.100 ), by hour. On 10th August 1950, on proposal of the Premier Alcide De Gasperi, the Parliament instituted the Cassa per il Mezzogiorno, by the low 646. Its eim was to create the conditions « for a wide program of pre-industrialization» of the southern regions of Italy. The regions were Abbruzzi e Molise, Campania, Puglie, Basilicata, Calabria, Sicilia, Sardegna, and the provincies of Latina, Frosinone and Isola d’Elba. Among the works which were carried out in the early years of activitiy of the Cassa per il Mezzogiorno we remember the construction of council – house building at Caserta, new streets in the province, the waterwork of Campania which fed 150 commons and 70 provincies and the development of the railway network and of the telephone one. In 1957 the law 637 extended the Cassa per il Mezzogiono till 1965. It announced a period of government intervention in economy, with considerable investements in the southern regions. The early years of the sixties saw the setting up of new factories, such as the Saint Gobain, a French market leader for glass production at Caserta, the Pozzi, one of the most important manufacturing facilities, the Texas at Aversa. The period of industrial expansion went-on with the setting up end the increasing of some engeneering factories such as the Siemens at Santa Maria Capua Vetere, the Face Standard at Maddaloni, the Olivetti at Marcanise. Those years saw the birth of a modern working class. It was in those years that the working class asserted itself as general role and as contradiction to capital. The wage became « an independent variable». At the same time there were the first company shakes up with the consequent employment cuts. At the and of the sixsties the struggle against low wages came to an end positively. Infact in 1970 the Parliament passed the Workers’ Statute of Rights, a very important law which gave birth to a new civilization in the factories and in other workplaces, too.

Texto completoThe Seventies are regarded almost canonically as the years of crisis, a crisis that appears almost simultaneously inside and outside national borders, and is configured as a real crisis of the system. This study seeks to analyze the dynamics and developments in the relationship between feminist movement and political violence in Italy in the seventies and eighties. To understand and analyze the dynamics of this development, it has been necessary first to reconstruct the genealogy of the concept of political violence drafted by the political philosophy in the twentieth century and then compare it with the concept of violence proposed by feminist thought in the same timeframe. At the same time the phenomenon of politically motivated violence acted in the seventies was considered, by analyzing the specificities of Italian feminism itself, but also, the possibility of identifying the gap - political, ideological and existential - between the definitions given by feminist practices to the category of violence and the peculiarities of the other movements that emerged in the political and social scene in the seventies and eighties
