Resumen
Wounded Memory and Historical Trauma in the Literature of Equatorial Guinea. Donato Ndongo Bidyogo’s Works The article, based on the example of Donato Ndongo Bidyogo’s works, presents two aspects of Equatorial Guinean literature, namely memory and trauma. They are crucial for the understanding of this still young literature, written in Spanish. The consideration of selected issues developed by contemporary Equatoguinean writers gives the country’s literature a specifi c character. A refl ection on the dramatic past and the diffi cult present is its recurring motif. The article is divided into four parts. The fi rst part presents a theoretical refl ection on the concept of Paul Ricouer’s “wounded memory” used in the text. The second analyses the so-called traumatic discourse in literature, and attempts to fi nd the distinction between a traumatic event and a traumatising experience. The third part of the article presents the issues of Equatoguinean historical traumas and sketches the literary landscape of the country. The article focuses on literary strategies of collective projection, wounded memory of Equatorial Guineans and the issue of the (im)possibility of mapping trauma in literature. The last part of the text presents literary examples of the phenomena discussed in the literature of Donato Ndongo Bidyogo.

The article analyses the space of literary silence as a specific, metaphorical and intelectual space, an idea derived from Pierre Nora’s concept of “space of memory” (1984). In the context of sociocriticism and geopoetics reflexions, we analyse the silence in the literature of Angola and Equatorial Guinea searching the difference between the unspoken due to political and ideological reasons, prohibitions or taboos and the unspoken related to the impossibility to speak about the traumatic experiences suffered by African colective and cultural subject (Edmond Cros). We focus on the unspoken as post-traumatic amnesia in the works of José Eduardo Agualusa and Pepetela from Angola and in the novels and tales of Leoncio Evita Enoy and Donato Ndongo Bidyogo from Equatorial Guinea. The conclusion is that the space of silence in these texts is the result of a post-traumatic disorder caused by trans-Atlantic slave trade.

Resumen
Many literary texts written by authors of African origin in the Spanish language engage with the experience of migration and of living in a European society that marginalizes and homogenizes migrants as the ‘African Other.’ Rather than reproduce stereotypical images of African migrants, these texts challenge a biased debate on migration to Europe, offering an alternative vision of a complex phenomenon. In these texts, migrants are individuals whose mobility is restricted because they are subjected to processes of Othering, which confine them to the margins of Spanish society, raising issues of mobility in/justice and forced im/mobilities related to hegemonic power relations, coloniality, and race. Privileging the perspective of African migrant subjects in creating new imaginaries of migration to Europe, this article examines the mobilities paradigm in the context of transnational migration in a postcolonial era and discusses the potential of literary texts to unsilence ‘immobile voices.’ Through this lens, I offer readings of César Mba Abogo’s El Porteador de Marlow: Canción negra sin color (2007) and Donato Ndongo-Bidyogo’s El Metro (2007), grounding my scholarship in Equatoguinean literature and contemporary hispanophone African literature.

What does literature say and what can it do, especially in societies that have been marked by colonisation? These are the two main questions that this dissertation tries to answer. Prepared under the supervision of Professor Victorien Lavou (Université de Perpignan, France) and codirection of Professor Chantal Allela-Kwevi (Université Omar Bongo, Gabon), it is entitled: « Ecriture de la domination en Amérique Centrale (Guatemala) et en Guinée Equatoriale. Miguel Ángel Asturias and Donato Ndongo Bidyogo are two great figures of modern and contemporary literature from Guatemala and Equatorial Guinea. Their novels deal with bad governance, the terror installed by the regimes in place (this is most visible in Los poderes de la tempestad (1997), and the domination of the United States over Guatemala and the rest of Central America. To propose a cross-view between these two novels and, beyond, between these two regions of the World is also one of the main objectives of the dissestation. Indeed, there are few large-scale academic works that cross-reference the writing of these two writers, who have almost everything in contrary, except perhaps the fact that their countries were colonized by Spain. That said, if authorized critics recognize them as engaged writers, they are no less concerned with producing an engaging literature. This means that their works should not be reduced to a pamphlet in which they realistically denounce the misfortunes of their respective countries. The 'fictional' dimension of their novels should therefore not be lost sight of. Finally, this thesis attempts to account for the complex relationships between literatures, societies, and subjectivities in postcolonial societies

Black African literature written in French is present in a large range of works. Nevertheless we note that light has not been shed on Spanish-speaking African literature yet. This situation stems from the fact that Equatorial Guinea is the only African country where Spanish is spoken. As a result both Academic circles and literature critics fail to recognize this nation’s literature. We decide to study the latter not only to bring light on it but also to depict reality. As Equatorial Guinea was the only Spanish black settlement it is nurtured on Spanish tradition on the hand, and, on the other hand, on black African tradiction —this can explain this country’s particular feature. This paper tackles dictatorship as political regime in Equatorial Guinea. We aim at highlighting how Ndongo Bidyogo manages to render reality through fiction. Humanism and hope are part of his works and show how dictatorship influences people

In relation to the immediate history, contemporary African literature contributes to the denunciation of the violence of postcolonial regimes and civil wars. These new forms of writing are characterized both by the urgency and by the intention to move away from European forms, giving rise to a universalizing writing and the claim of the novel as a work of art. This contribution is proposed, from nine Francophone, Anglophone and Hispanophone novels published between 1990 and 2000, to explore and analyse the reintegration of Sub-Saharan African women in the official archives. Through fictional testimonies inspired by real facts and stories of the private sphere, these authors create a new imagination about African women evolving between violence and resistance. Through an interdisciplinary approach, we will try to identify the images of the woman in these novels, as well as the stylistic and linguistic means in the process of the reinterpretation of the archives and the reintegration of the African Sub-Saharan woman in history

Which is the identity of a traveler who is constantly on the move between cultures and languages? What happens with stories when they are transmitted from one place to another, when they are retold, remade, translated and re-translated? What happens with the scholars themselves, when they try to grapple with the kaleidoscopic diversity of human expression in a constantly changing world? These and related questions are, if not given a definite answer, explored in the chapters of this anthology. Its overall topic, narratives that pass over national, language and ethnical borders include studies about transcultural novels, poetry, drama and the narratives of journalism. There is a broad geographic diversity, not only in the anthology as a whole, but also in each of the single contributions. This in turn demand a multitude of theoretical and methodological approaches, which cover a spectrum of concepts from such different sources as post-colonial studies, linguistics, religion, aesthetics, art and media studies, often going beyond the well-known Western frameworks. The works of authors like Miriam Toews, Yoko Tawada, Javier Moreno, Leila Abouela, Marguerite Duras, Kyoko Mori, Francesca Duranti, Donato Ndongo-Bidyogo, Rībi Hideo, and François Cheng are studied from a variety of perspectives. Other chapters deal with code-switching in West-african novels, border-crossing in the Japanese noh drama, translational anthologies of Italian literature, urban legends on the US-Mexico border, migration in German children's books, and war trauma in poetry. Most of the chapters are case studies, and may thus be of interest, not only for specialists, but also for the general reader.

Resumen
Tybinko’s chapter examines the work of two contemporary authors – both of African origin – whose work has become fundamental for understanding the migrant experience in Spain. While African-born authors such as Donato Ndongo Bidyogo and Rachid Nini are most frequently read as the bulwarks of a burgeoning category of Spanish literature often posed as “immigrant fiction,” this chapter explores their vivid portrayal of the aforementioned economic circumstances in fictional form. Through a re-reading of Ndongo Bidyogo’s El metro (2007) and Nini’s Diario de un ilegal (1995), this chapter offers an alternate view of what canonical authors like Rafael Chirbes have dubbed “los años de pelotazo.” Both texts make manifest how the frenzied build-up that preceded the crash capitalized on immigrant labor and lives. To accentuate this point, Ndongo Bidyogo and Nini play into the Spanish stereotype of a “migrant” as present in the new media: a young, African man, adrift in Spain. However, in doing so they also expose the colonial underpinnings of contemporary Iberian society, and a certain Spanishness that is very much in crisis well-before economic collapse.

Resumen
My investigation aims to contribute to the understanding of the functionality of the fictitious border zones and how characters relate to spaces that put them in contact with the transitory, that is, liminal characters and spaces. In this sense I will work with the concept of liminality developed by anthropologists Arnold Van Gennep and Victor Turner. The object of study is El metro (2007), by Equatorial Guinean writer Donato Ndongo, and it is an example of the contemporary Equatoguinean novel in Spanish. My contribution focuses on how narrator and characters perceive and relate to liminal spaces (boats, beaches, the subway), and it touches upon the ambivalent relationship between the emigrant from sub-Saharan Africa and Western culture during the years of economic crisis in Spain.

Resumen
This essay takes as point of departure the well-known expression “Africa begins in the Pyrenees,” to evaluate the ways in which two postcolonial authors from Equatorial Guinea, Francisco Zamora Loboch (1948) and Donato Ndongo Bidyogo (1950) express the double consciousness that molds the writing of those living in exile in Spain, displaced by brutal dictatorships. Particular attention is paid to the transatlantic cartographies delineated by Donato Ndongo’s El metro (2007) [The subway], as it dramatizes the negotiation of Africanness in the city of Madrid, an emblem of present-day Fortress Europe. In Francisco Zamora’s case, the essay Cómo ser negro y no morir en Aravaca (1994) [How to be Black and not die in Aravaca] and his 2009 novel Conspiración en el Green (el informe Abayak [Conspiracy in the green (The Abayak report)] demarcate the transatlantic cartographies questioning Spanish social and cultural practices that legitimize violence against Blacks.
