Resumen
By combining different plasmonic nanostructures with conventional sensing configurations, chemical/biosensors with significantly enhanced device performance can be achieved. The fast development of plasmon-assisted devices benefits from the advance of nanofabrication technology. In this review, we first briefly show the experimental configurations for testing plasmon enhanced sensing signals and then summarize the classic nanogeometries which are extensively used in sensing applications. By design, dramatic increment of optical signals can be obtained and further applied to gas, refractive index and liquid sensing.

Resumen
The demands for precision measurement of three dimensional micro-and nanogeometries over a large area have rapidly increased during the last few years. To meet such requirements, many different nanometre resolving 3D capable probing sensors and corresponding 3D positioning systems to operate the sensors for 3D measurements have been developed. The mechanical contact-free, electrical work piece probing based on the scanning tunneling microscopy principle offers new possibilities for 3D micro coordinate measurements as well as for nanometre resolved topography measurements in micro-and nanometrology. This paper introduces an updated version of this probing sensor system extended with a 3D movable piezo scanner to directly detect its probing direction. With the magnitude and the direction of the contact vector forwarded to the position control of the nanopositioning and nanomeasuring machine NMM-1 all of the 3D measurement commands of NMM-1 can be utilized, allowing 3D surface scans and especially 3D free-form surface scans.

Resumen
Abstract Designing rationally combined metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) with multifunctional nanogeometries is of significant research interest to enable the electrochemical properties in advanced energy storage devices. Herein, we explored a new class of binder-free dual-layered Ni–Co–Mn-based MOFs (NCM-based MOFs) with three-dimensional (3D)-on-2D nanoarchitectures through a polarity-induced solution-phase method for high-performance supercapatteries. The hierarchical NCM-based MOFs having grown on nickel foam exhibit a battery-type charge storage mechanism with superior areal capacity (1311.4 μAh cm−2 at 5 mA cm−2), good rate capability (61.8%; 811.67 μAh cm−2 at 50 mA cm−2), and an excellent cycling durability. The superior charge storage properties are ascribed to the synergistic features, higher accessible active sites of dual-layered nanogeometries, and exalted redox chemistry of multi metallic guest species, respectively. The bilayered NCM-based MOFs are further employed as a battery-type electrode for the fabrication of supercapattery paradigm with biomass-derived nitrogen/oxygen doped porous carbon as a negative electrode, which demonstrates excellent capacity of 1.6 mAh cm−2 along with high energy and power densities of 1.21 mWh cm−2 and 32.49 mW cm−2, respectively. Following, the MOF-based supercapattery was further assembled with a renewable solar power harvester to use as a self-charging station for various portable electronic applications.

Texto completo
Resumen
AbstractReducing p‐nitrophenol (PNP) to p‐aminophenol is an industrially relevant synthesis. Nevertheless, only a few heterogeneous catalysts have been evaluated for the reduction of PNP by glycerol. Appropriate quantum computational studies can screen potential catalysts for this crucial green reaction. The present research investigates the catalytic activities of Pd@Ag and Ni@Ag core‐shell nanogeometries toward PNP reduction by glycerol through density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The central atom of a geometry‐optimized 13‐atom Ag cluster was replaced by Pd and Ni atoms to create the core‐shell morphologies. The interaction energies of PNP and glycerol with each of the (metal/bimetallic) clusters were evaluated by DFT calculations to find the best PNP and glycerol molecule orientation with the respective bimetallic cluster. Electrostatic potential surface and natural bond orbital analyses were performed to study the charge distribution and transfer between atomic orbitals. The frequencies of vibrational modes in isolated PNP/glycerol structures were compared to those when these molecules were in the presence of the different metal clusters to infer the effect of the interactions. All performed analyses indicated improved catalytic activity toward PNP reduction by glycerol upon Ni‐doping of the Ag13 cluster.

Alexandre Gehrke, Sergio. "Characteristics of Implant Systems That Can Accelerate and Improve the Osseointegration Process". En Dentistry. IntechOpen, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.5772/intechopen.99937.

Texto completo
Resumen
The research and development of new implant models modifying the micro and macro design has increased significantly in the last decades. With the advancement of knowledge about the biological behavior of these materials when implanted in living tissue, a great search for morphological changes at macrogeometric, microgeometric and even nanogeometric levels was started, to accelerate the process of osseointegration of implants, reducing the time for the rehabilitation treatment. This chapter will seek to demonstrate, through scientific evidence, the potential effect of the morphological characteristics of implants on osseointegration. Modifications in the surface treatment of implants will be discussed to improve the osseointegration process in terms of quality and time reduction, changes in the surgical technique used for the osteotomy of the implant installation site, and macrogeometric changes in the shape of the implant body.
