Resumen
Abstract Marathon Oil gets its Corporate Emergency Response Team (CERT) together once a year in a tabletop exercise. CERT is made up of volunteers from throughout the company and the exercise serves both to hone response skills and to build teamwork. The 2009 annual exercise was held in Huntington, West Virginia. The exercise involved a diesel leak in Ohio, a worst case discharge of crude oil in Kentucky and a barge/security incident in West Virginia. These incidents pulled in responders from 3 United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) regions, the United States Coast Guard (USCG), West Virginia National Guard, 3 states, 4 counties and 3 business units. In all 280 people from 26 organizations were involved in the drill. The planning effort involved many of the organizations who played in the exercise and was modeled after the Spill of National Significance (SONS1) 2007 planning effort for the Evansville Venue which built from the bottom up. Major goals of the drill were to: deeply integrate Unified Command, and stress the CERT with both traditional and nontraditional problems. The endgame was the delivery of an Incident Action Plan (IAP) which included the company's first attempt at an inland salvage plan. Unified Command was pushed down into Operations, Planning, Environmental and Joint Information. Integration in Unified Command was done in several ways: traditional jurisdictional decision making, position/task assignments, and resource pooling. A Joint Information Center (JIC) was setup for the exercise, and one of the JIC's tasks was to accommodate real media coverage. A group hotwash was held for all participants and even though 100 action items were identified, the group consensus was that the drill was valuable for both public and private responders, and their organizations.

Resumen
This paper introduces a software toolbox designed for the optimisation of white light generation using multiple light-emitting diode (LED) channels. The toolbox solves two separate types of multi-colour optimisation problems. These are the multi-channel mixing and the channel choice problems. In the multi-channel mixing problem, it is assumed that the available LEDs are pre-determined and fixed. The toolbox obtains the individual channel intensities that solve a constrained optimisation problem based on the mixed output light. It provides the user with the flexibility to choose an arbitrary formulation for the optimisation problem as well as various mathematical metrics to represent the different properties of the output light including colour rendering, power efficiency and colour accuracy. For the channel choice problem, the toolbox solves for the number and type of used LED channels as well as the intensity of individual channels to assist in optimal choice of deployed channels for luminaire manufacturing applications. This paper describes the graphical user interface and the back-end formulation of the optimisation problem and presents experimental results obtained by utilising the toolbox in a full-size conference room with 5-channel LED luminaires.

Resumen
Multi-color light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with various advantages of color tunability, self-luminescence, wide viewing angles, high color contrast, low power consumption, and flexibility provide a wide range of applications including full-color display, augmented reality/virtual reality technology, and wearable healthcare systems. In this review, we introduce three main types of multi-color LEDs: the organic LED, colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) LED, and CQD–organic hybrid LED. Various strategies for realizing multi-color LEDs are discussed including red, green, and blue sub-pixel side-by-side arrangement; vertically stacked LED unit configuration; and stacked emitter layers in a single LED. Finally, according to their status and challenges, we present an outlook of multi-color devices. We hope this review can inspire researchers and make a contribution to the further improvement of multi-color LED technology.

Resumen
Digital cameras obtain color information of the scene using a chromatic filter, usually a Bayer filter, overlaid on a pixelated detector. However, the periodic arrangement of both the filter array and the detector array introduces frequency aliasing in sampling and color misregistration during demosaicking process which causes degradation of image quality. Inspired by the biological structure of the avian retinas, we developed a chromatic LED array which has a geometric arrangement of multi-hyperuniformity, which exhibits an irregularity on small-length scales but a quasi-uniformity on large scales, to suppress frequency aliasing and color misregistration in full color image retrieval. Experiments were performed with a single-pixel imaging system using the multi-hyperuniform chromatic LED array to provide structured illumination, and 208 fps frame rate was achieved at 32 × 32 pixel resolution. By comparing the experimental results with the images captured with a conventional digital camera, it has been demonstrated that the proposed imaging system forms images with less chromatic moiré patterns and color misregistration artifacts. The concept proposed verified here could provide insights for the design and the manufacturing of future bionic imaging sensors.

Resumen
A high power ultraviolet (UV) light emitting diode (LED) multi-chip module package based on aluminum nitride (AlN) and alumina (Al2O3) is presented. The AlN substrate with a high thermal conductivity of up to 180 W/(m· K) and LED chips based on a copper alloy provide superb thermal management and heat extraction. Efficient cooling is an important prerequisite for the increase of extractable optical power and decrease of thermally induced wavelength shift. A design of a stackable module featuring arrays of 7×2 indium-gallium-aluminum- nitride UV LED chips at 395 nm is developed. This configuration of sub-modules allows for the scalable assembly of line sources with different lengths. Applications using UV LEDs cover market segments such as curing of adhesives, inks and coatings, sterilization of medical equipment and treatment of potable water, as well as various uses in chemical detection, biochemical analytics and spectroscopy. Thermal and thermo-mechanical modelling of the sub-mount is conducted using finite elements analysis. Die attach using eutectic gold-tin solder, lower melting tin-lead solder and silver-filled adhesive are compared with respect to optical output power and wavelength drift. Mechanical strength and structure of the resulting joints are investigated using shear force measurements, cross-sectioning and micro-tomography. An optical output power of 7.7 W is achieved using a cluster of 14 LED chips at 1050 mA resulting in a peak irradiance of 30.8 W/cm2 at the LED surface with respect to the footprint and pitch of the attached chips.

Resumen
By studying the substrate material, structure, chip distribution, and array form of the multi-chip light-emitting diode (LED) package, the heat-dissipation capacity of the LED package is improved. Finite element analysis and steady-state thermal analysis are used to simulate and analyze LED packages with different materials and structures. Using the theory of LED illuminance and uniformity, the illuminance of some structures is computed. The results show that the change of substrate material and structure can greatly impact heat dissipation, while changing array forms has little effect on heat dissipation. By improving the spatial distribution of the chip, the temperature superposition problem of the substrate is solved, and the illuminance and uniformity are improved while dissipating heat. The LED filaments of the combined, equidistant, chip-distribution mode have improved heat dissipation. The S-type equal difference has the highest illumination and high illumination uniformity.

Resumen
Abstract This paper presents an overview of the Lower Atmospheric Boundary Layer Experiment (LABLE), which included two measurement campaigns conducted at the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Program Southern Great Plains site in Oklahoma during 2012 and 2013. LABLE was conducted as a collaborative effort between the University of Oklahoma (OU), the National Severe Storms Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), and the ARM program. LABLE can be considered unique in that it was designed as a multiphase, low-cost, multiagency collaboration. Graduate students served as principal investigators and took the lead in designing and conducting experiments aimed at examining boundary layer processes. The main objective of LABLE was to study turbulent phenomena in the lowest 2 km of the atmosphere over heterogeneous terrain using a variety of novel atmospheric profiling techniques. Several instruments from OU and LLNL were deployed to augment the suite of in situ and remote sensing instruments at the ARM site. The complementary nature of the deployed instruments with respect to resolution and height coverage provides a near-complete picture of the dynamic and thermodynamic structure of the atmospheric boundary layer. This paper provides an overview of the experiment including 1) instruments deployed, 2) sampling strategies, 3) parameters observed, and 4) student involvement. To illustrate these components, the presented results focus on one particular aspect of LABLE: namely, the study of the nocturnal boundary layer and the formation and structure of nocturnal low-level jets. During LABLE, low-level jets were frequently observed and they often interacted with mesoscale atmospheric disturbances such as frontal passages.

Resumen
Heat dissipation and cost are the key issues for light-emitting diode (LED) packaging. In this paper, based on the thermal resistance network model of LED packaging, three-dimensional heat dissipation model of high power multi-chip LED packaging is developed and analyzed with the application of finite element method. Temperature distributions of the current multi-chip LED packaging model are investigated systematically under the different materials of the chip substrate, die attach, and/or different structures of the heat sink and fin. The results show that the junction temperature can be decreased effectively by increasing the height of the heat sink, the width of the fin, and the thermal conductivity of the chip substrate and die attach materials. The lower cost and higher reliability for LED source can be obtained through reasonable selection of materials and structure parameters of the LED lighting system.

Resumen
A novel rectangular shape microlens array having high sag for solid-state lighting is presented. The rectangular shape of proposed microlens can maximize the fill factor of silicon based light-emitting-diode (LED) packaging and minimize the optical loss through the reduction of unnecessary reflection at the same time. Microlens, which has high sag, over 3 75 μm and large diameter, over 3 mm can enormously enhance output optical extraction eff iciency. Moreover wafer level packaging technology is adopted to improve the aligning accu racy and mass production of LED packaging. This wafer level microlens array can be direc tly fabricated on LED packaging using replication method. It has many advantages in optica l properties, low cost, high aligning accuracy, and mass production.

Resumen
Micro-LEDs have been attracting attention as a potential candidate for the next generation of display technology. Here we demonstrate the feasibility of large-area monolithic integration of multi-color InGaN micro-LEDs via pulsed sputtering deposition (PSD) and a standard photolithographical technique. The PSD allows for sequential epitaxial growth of blue and green InGaN LED stacks connected with the GaN based tunneling junction. The tunneling junctions serve as protective layers on p-type GaN against the dry etching damage and hole injection layers in each blue and green emission InGaN active layer. The tunneling junction-connected multi-color InGaN LED stack contributes to the high-density and large-area monolithic integration of RGB micro-LEDs using standard photolithography and the ICP-dry etching method.
