Resumen
Protein supplementation has a positive effect on milk production, particularly in ewes on negative energy balance (Gonzalez et al., 1985). The response has been associated either to an increase in the movilization of body reserves (Whitelaw et al., 1986, Hadjipanayotou et al., 1988) or to an enhanced efficiency of energy utilization for milk synthesis. On the other hand, the response has been shown to be higher with fish meal than with other protein sources (Oldham, 1984). This work aimed to study the mecanisms involved in the response to fish meal supplementation, in lactating ewes on negative energy balance.

Resumen
Facelift, currently, is one of the most demanded aesthetic procedures and considered as the Ultimate Facial Rejuvenation Surgery. The purpose of this present technique is to offer an alternative surgical procedure of reduced scars, limited to the peri-auricular area, easily reproducible, without the need of extended incisions far beyond the retro-auricular sulcus neither the need of flaps for the temporal region. Our technique is based on a block reposition of the pre auricular area, cervical flaps movilization and rotation of a retro auricular flap, avoiding flaps and incisions in the temporal and occipital region; therefore, minimizing visible scars (occipital pre-pilose scar), wide-tissue undermining, and in addition reducing the risk of damaging nerve structures with less recovery time for our patients, achieving natural and long lasting results.

Resumen
Purpose: To evaluate results of medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction associated with lateral release and advancement of vastus medialis in recurrent dislocation of the patella. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 11 patients with a mean follow-up of 19 months. Mean age was 23, mainly women. We did MPFL reconstruction with semitendinosus or gracilis tendon depending on BMI, associated with advancement of vastus medialis and lateral release. Results: Mean Kujala score improved from 46,54 pts. preoperative to 88,36 postoperative. Our main complication was 1 patient with rigid knee, who required movilization under anesthesia and arthroscopic arthrolisis to improve her outcome. Conclusion: The combination of this techniques are a good alternative to treat patients with recurrent patella disclocation, with good short and mid-term results. Biomechanic intra and postop complications of MPFL reconstruction are related to patellar fixation, anatomic positioning of femoral tunnel and knee position of the graft fixation.

Resumen
Background: Histamine is released from mast cells by immunologic and non-immunologic stimuli during salivary gland inflammation, regulating salivary secretion. The receptor-secretory mechanism has not been studied in detail.Aims: The studies reported were directed toward elucidating signal transduction/second messenger pathways within the rat submandibular gland associated with 2-thiazolylethylamine (ThEA)-induced H1-receptor responses.Materials and methods: To assess the H1receptor subtype expression in the rat submandibular gland, a radioligand binding assay was performed. The study also included inositolphosphates and cyclic GMP accumulation, protein kinase C and nitric oxide synthase activities, and amylase release. Results: The histamine H1receptor subtype is expressed on the rat submandibular gland with high-affinity binding sites. The ThEA effect was associated with activation of phosphoinositide-specific phospholipase C, translocation of protein kinase C, stimulation of nitric oxide synthase activity and increased production of cyclic GMP. ThEA stimulation of nitric oxide synthase and cyclic GMP was blunted by agents able to interfere with calcium movilization, while a protein kinase C inhibitor was able to stimulate ThEA action. On the other hand, ThEA stimulation evoked amylase release via the H1receptor but was not followed by the L-arginine/nitric oxide pathway activation. Conclusions: These results suggest that, apart from the effect of ThEA on amylase release, it also appears to be a vasoactive chemical mediator that triggers vasodilatation, modulating the course of inflammation.

Resumen
The presence of high level of heavy metals involves a human healthy risk that could induce chronic diseases. This work reports on the metal contamination due to heaps of steel-slag accumulated during more than 40 years in allotments and industrial areas in the southern part of Madrid (Spain). Several slag and soil samples were collected in an area of 10 km² and characterized by different conventional (XRD and XRF) and no so common methods (ESEM, thermoluminescence and EDS-WDS). The analysis reveal the presence of: (i) important amounts of Fe (43%), Mg (26%), Cr (1.1%), Mn (4.6%), S (6.5%) in the form of Fe-rich slag phases (wustite, magnetite...), Si and Ca-rich phases (larnite, ghelenite...), Cr (chromite), Mn (bustamite) and graphite, (ii) traces of some other contaminants such as Cr (7700 ppm), Zn (3500 ppm), Ba (3000 ppm), Pb (700 ppm) or Cu (500 ppm) on pathway soil samples that come from the steel slag, and (iii) Co (13 ppm), Pb (78 ppm) and V (54 ppm) in farmland soil samples. Although the existing heavy metals content is not appropriate for the current use, the extremely high metal contamination of the surrounding areas is more worrying. The properties of the soil farmlands (pH circa 7, 13% of clay, mainly illite, and 1-4% of organic matter content) show suitable conditions for the retention of cationic metals, but further studies on the movilization of these elements have to be performed to determine the possibility of severe human health risks. This sort of study can provide useful information for the politicians regarding the appropriate use of the territory to prevent possible health hazard for the population.

Resumen
The mechanisms of direct democracy involve the participation through voting, from the legal forms of enquiry such as referendum, plebiscite, revocation of mandate, though it can include other graded definitions that go from the minimalist to wider conceptions such as the intervention in fiscal resources and the civic audit. The legal system ensures order. Legal models are the first step to move on to the institutionalized use of DDM as a possibility of influence of the governed ones on public decisions. The ways to influence are different in each country, not only because of the legal model in its government levels, but also because of the citizenship and its characteristics, product of the historical context of construction of the state which brings distinctive features for its use. Can political power be shared? And what is the purpose? The mechanisms of direct democracy in the south of the continent with the exception of Chile and Uruguay, have been institutionalized due to political circumstances of social conflict (as in Bolivia and Ecuador), because of scarce social movilization (like Argentina and Peru), because of low institutional instability (as occurred in Colombia), medium (like Venezuela, Bolivia and Argentina), and high (Ecuador and Peru), and just in Bolivia the clear incorporation took place due to a social demand. In this sense, What DDM are useful for? And for whom? Is it possible to influence public decisions based on the DDM? Legislating direct democracy mechanisms and activating them is not enough to give a sense of civic empowerment to these forms of participatory democracy. The method used is qualitative documentary, based on analysis of the political, legal, social, institutional, electoral dimensions, with the help of geographic information systems (GIS).

Resumen
Abstract Background: Serum free light chain Freelite® assays, is a quantitative method to measure serum free light chain (FLC) concentration, and could be a simple and accurately indicator to predict the early relapse in Multiple Myeloma(MM) patients with apparently complete response. FLC are small proteins that cross easily through the glomeruli pores, entering the proximal tubule, where they are reabsorbed and metabolised. In patients with a low tumour burden, the amount of FLC produced can remain below this reabsorption capacity and so have no detectable in urine. However, serum levels of FLC continue to rise and therefore become a good biomarker to detect an early progression. Aims of study: To determine the predictive value of serum FLC concentration in MM patients in complete response after autologous stem cell transplant as a early biomarker of relapse. Patients and Methods: Observational, analytical study performed in 24 MM patients included in an autologous stem cell transplant program during 2002–2006 in one center. All patients received induction therapy with VBCMP/VBAD (×4), follow by G-CSF movilization and collection of CD34+ cells. The infussion of CD34+(mean: 5.39×106/kg; range: 2.24–18.8) was performed after conditioning with high doses of Melphalan. Serum samples were collected on 0, +4, +7, +21, +30, +60 y +90 days and stored frozen at −80°C. Serum FLC were analysed in a nephelometer system following the manufacturer instructions. We have compare the increase of FLC according M-component subtype, number of CD34+ cells administered, time until immune reconstitution, administration of coadyuvant AM3-glycopeptical therapy, infections in early postrasplant period, maintenance therapy and time free relapsed survival. Descriptive statistical analysis, ANOVA comparative test and Kaplan-Meier survival study was performed. Results: 24 patients, 47.0 % females, mean age 63.2 y (38–72), IgG (46.1%), IgA (15.4%), light chains (23.0%), non secretory (7.7%), time to immune reconstitution 15–17 days, kappa/lambda ratio at baseline 57.0 (CI95% 0.8,20.3), days: +4:37.3(CI95% 0.1,3.2), +7:1.85(CI95% 1,3), +21:2.37 (CI95% 0.4,2.0), +30:0.87 (CI95% 0.2,0.9), +60:0.4 (0.2, 2.1) and +90:1.26 (CI95% 0.3, 2.9). Mean relapsed free survival 27.6 m (CI95% 9,55), OS 59.0 m (CI95% 27,76), 7 patients have dead for progression. At day +21 opposite correlation kappa/lambda ratio and RFS was observed. Comments: The early increase of free serum kappa/lambda chains ratio could be an useful biomarker to predict RFS and OS in MM patients in complete response after therapy.

Based on a corpus of written and oral sources, we sought to understand, from a socio-historical perspective, how students and teachers from three provincial universities – Poitiers, Limoges, and Tours – mobilized in May-June 1968 and in the early 1970s (what later became known as the “1968 years”). In this work, we aimed to link the transformations of the student world, both through the structuring of its spaces and networks and through the material and symbolic struggles it embodies, with the institutional and socio-cultural changes of the university. The thesis focuses on the implementation of the Faure Law (1968), which has been relatively understudied in the prolific literature on May 1968. Conceived as a series of analytical entries centered on processes and/or actor relations, it varies different levels of reading across the sites while aiming for depth of field on specific objects (movements, institutional work, etc.). In this research, we paid particular attention to the role of space, including its material aspects, as the observed dynamics can only be understood in light of local actor configurations, the outcomes of past struggles, issues specific to an institution, or its relationships with local communities
