Texto completoFrom its outset in November 2018, the Yellow Vests Movement (YVM) has stood out for its fierce criticism of the mainstream media, most notably through its engagement on social media platforms. This thesis investigates the driving forces behind this denunciation. It draws on combined fieldworks, involving the analysis of screenshots taken from the YV’s Facebook spaces (n = 316), as well as semi-structured interviews conducted among the movement’s participants (n = 38), and results from a 2019 survey administered via the Pluralisme de l’information en ligne (PIL) research project. The study of this empirical data seeks to identify the social organizing principles of the YV’s media criticism. It combines a dispositionalist examination of the respondents’ individual experiences with a discussion of the online development of a shared critical culture, specific to the protest. The YV’s media criticism thus appears to be the product of a mobilization of demonstrators with varying degrees of inclination towards critical discourse. As the activist experience of the YV regularly found itself at odds with the media coverage of the movement, it prompted the online expression of an anger aggregated by platforms, and gradually formed a common culture of protest. This media criticism eventually took root in the daily lives of the YV, resulting in a reconfiguration of their media practices, thus sustaining a denunciation that became a structural feature of the protest

Texto completoThis study concentrates on the history of the "yellow" trade unions of pierre bietry (by using the "yellow" press and the national and departmental archives) and the ideology of the movement. Trade unionism at the turn of the century cannot be reduced to the cgt or the emerging christian trade-unionism. The neglected aspect is indeed "yellow" trade-unionism, this proletarian, counter-revolutionary and anti-socialist current which advocated collaboration rather than conflict with the bosses. This thesis refutes the idea that the "yellows" were merely a group of marginals, "strike-breakers" or "social-traitors", financed by the bosses who were traumatised by the strength of revolutionary-syndicalism. In addition, this thesis does not accept that the "yellows" were the forebearers of "french-style fascism". On the contrary, the "yellows" were right-wing, proletarian trade-unions opposed to revolutionary syndicalists, and rejected the heritage of the revolution. They defended traditional values of catholicism and reiterated political values of the right. Even if the "yellows" seem to have disappeared as a movement after 1912, their ideas lived on, through the xxth century, and the discourse of the popular right-wing shows

Texto completoThe four chapters of this thesis aim to better understand citizens' attitudes towards environmental policies. The first chapter assesses the redistributive impact of the French carbon tax. It shows that the carbon tax is regressive, but could be made progressive if its revenue were returned uniformly to all households. However, the policy would generate significant horizontal redistributive effects and penalize a large share of modest households. Based on a new survey with a large representative sample, the second chapter co-authored with Adrien Fabre shows that the French are opposed to the carbon tax even if its revenue is returned to them uniformly. This rejection goes hand in hand with strongly rooted pessimistic perceptions of the effects of the policy, which can be explained by the respondents' mistrust. Our analysis shows, however, that when households are convinced of the objective effects of the policy - on their purchasing power, on the environment, and in redistributive terms - their support increases very significantly. The third chapter, based on the same survey, is more descriptive. It aims to assess French attitudes towards climate change and the prospects for French climate policy after the Yellow Vest crisis. The fourth chapter, more theoretical, uses a model to study how environmental disasters affect consumption, investment and environmental protection decisions according to people's attitude to risk
