Resumen
This study aims to probe the determinants of inter-provincial migration flows in Indonesia and how economic and development changes affect migration patterns. We employ three census periods, 1990, 2000, and 2010. Our study finds that an increase in relative inequality between origin and destination provinces decreases inter-provincial migration and relatively high distance elasticity in Indonesia leads to high migration cost. People are more inclined to migrate due to push factors as opposed to pull factors from the destination region, thus indicating a strong relationship between the level of regional development and the willingness of people to migrate.

Resumen
Migration phenomena, especially internal migrations which are usually called commuting migration, take place almost in the entire parts of Indonesia. One commuting migration phenomenon is shown by workers of Semarang District. The purpose of this study is to partially analyze the influence of income, education, marital status, land ownership, sex, and age variable upon workers commuting decision of Semarang District. This study uses both primary, obtained from questionnaires of 100 respondents, and secondary data. The results of binary logistic regression model analysis in this study show that two independent variables of income and education significantly influence workers commuting decision while marital status, land ownership, sex, and age variable do not influence workers commuting decision.

Challenging conventional wisdom, this article argues that Indonesia — long home to both large-scale transmigration programmes and a range of conflicts — has not witnessed transmigrant conflicts. The vast majority of Indonesian transmigrants were resettled in parts of Sumatra which have remained peaceful. In some conflicts, the role of transmigration has been exaggerated. In others, interethnic violence has involved spontaneous migrants rather than state-led transmigrants. We conclude with a discussion of two potential outliers, where violence has been directed towards transmigrants, but only those from disaster-affected regions who arrived en masse. This article argues for a more nuanced understanding of the distinctions between different forms of internal migration, some of which have the potential to spark future violence in recipient areas and communities.

Resumen
Malaysia's labor shortages can be attributed to rapid industrialization; higher educational attainment leading to external and internal migration and labor shortages; and poor wages and working conditions in plantations, the construction industry and the service sector. Such shortages have been met largely through the use of illegal migrant workers from Indonesia, south Thailand and the southern Philippines. Implementation of the government's plan for economic restructuring, 1971–1990, was assisted by such workers; however, the government has also recognized the socioeconomic problems engendered by illegal migration. Policies to facilitate temporary labor migration in key sectors are being developed.

Resumen
The Buginese and Madurese are well known as fierce sailors and are open-hearted ethnics in Indonesia. It seems that they have their typical characters and identities compared to the other ethnics in Indonesia. Their characters and identities become part of their life, including in economic, social customs or even when they immigrated to a new place. This phenomenology study tried to explain the behavior of Buginese and the people of Madurese who immigrated to Papua. The study also would seek to explore beyond migration of the Bugis and Madurese in Papua. This article was conducted in Papua to assess the patterns of migration and community interaction of Bugis and Madurese with other communities. The study findings revealed that Buginese and Madurese seem similar among others in terms of economic activity, mastery in the field of politics, and social role in the community. Besides, with their capacity, it has a role in religious activities which they always carry out in their environment. By not making it as a mission of deployment religious activities, but rather only to defend their religious understanding in a way that it would be limited just to the internal environment. It seems both the Buginese and Madurese firmly have a connection to the Islamic identity factors that are part of their religious expression.

Resumen
Reproductive migration is a critical phase in the life history of anguillid eels. Nevertheless, fine-scale behaviours of migrating eels remain unknown, primarily due to the difficulty in attaching high-resolution recording devices to, and recovering them from, these small-sized teleosts. We attached a small accelerometer with time-scheduled release system to mature Anguilla celebesensis and A. marmorata in Lake Poso, Indonesia, during the pre-migration period. The eels repeated up-and-down movements in the water column (maximum depth, 77m), with slower, less active descents at shallower pitch angles, followed by faster, more active ascents at steeper pitch angles. The asymmetric diving pattern indicates negative buoyancy of the eels, which was confirmed by the measurements of body densities. The repeated diving is unlikely to represent foraging or thermoregulation because mature eels are thought to fast and water temperature changed little with depth. We suggest that the repeated diving is a result of the eels’ internal motivation for continuous swimming in preparation for oceanic migration, and is possibly energetically more efficient than if they keep swimming at a certain depth. The swimming energetics of eels in nature might be more complicated than previously thought because of the effect of vertical movements and non-neutral buoyancy.

Resumen
The article considers the impact of environmental changes on population migration and security of countries. Theoretical aspects of Environmental migration, in particular its essence and types, are studied. The main directions of scientific research in this field are considered. In particular, much attention is about finding ways to adapt to changes in the environment and minimize the negative consequences of these changes to achieve sustainable development in both regions and countries. The study found that internal population movements are mainly due to climatic factors such as storms and floods. It was determined that in 2019, about 52% of new mixing was caused by storms and 40% - by floods. Countries for which the phenomenon of ecological migration is most characteristic are India, the Philippines, the United States, China, and Indonesia. The main problems that arise in the study of Environmental mobility of the population are identifiedThey are mainly related to the lack of information and statistical base for conducting qualitative and diverse research.

Resumen
Indonesia currently has one of the largest groups of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of any nation in the world. This paper assesses the scale and patterns of such movement in Indonesia as at the beginning of 2002. It begins by assessing conflict as a cause of internal migration and shows how such movement was significant during the first two decades of independence in Indonesia. The current patterns of movement of IDPs in Indonesia are then outlined with the main origins being in the Outer Island provinces of Maluku, East Timor, Aceh, Central Sulawesi, Central Kalimantan, Papua and West Kalimantan. Around half of the current 1.3 million IDPs are housed in “refugee camps,” often in crowded and unhygienic conditions. Several of the expulsions of IDPs have come from areas where there have been earlier influxes of migrants, especially transmigrants of Java-Bali origins and the so-called BBM (Bugis, Butonese and Makassarese from South Sulawesi), with different ethnoreligious backgrounds than the native residents. The release of central control following the fall of the Suharto regime and the onset of the financial crisis have seen simmering newcomer/native, ethnic, religious and economic tensions rise to the surface to create the large scale expulsions. The Indonesian government has put forward a strategy to “solve” the IDP problem by the end of 2002. This is assessed and some of the medium and long-term implications of the movement discussed.

Resumen
The increase in internal migration has led to the emergence of ethnic minority migrant groups who work as entrepreneurs in various migration destinations in Indonesia. The migration that occurred in Manado shows that ethnic groups from certain regions form a unique group in the social network of repair shop owners and workers. This study aimed to describe the emergence and development of a ketok magic repair shop business in Manado which is owned by migrants from Blitar City, East Java. This study used a qualitative research method. Primary data were obtained from interviews and observations, while secondary data were obtained from literature studies. The results show that the opportunity structure in the form of requests for car repair and painting services as well as the ease of setting up a repair shop business has enabled the establishment of a number of ketok magic repair shops in Manado. Ethnic characteristics in the form of communities with high solidarity and strong social networks support repair shop activities well. This study concludes that community and social networks facilitate recruitment of workers and carry out repair shop promotion strategies because of high solidarity.

Resumen
Migrating as farm laborers is a livelihood strategy for people living in localities with limited available employment, particularly those with poor education, low skills, and without economic capital or land. Poverty is common among such households, raising the important question as to the most critical factors affecting family welfare. This study conducts such an analysis in a region hosting a large number of migrant farm laborers: Kacinambun Village, Tigapanah Subdistrict, Karo District, Indonesia. Based on analysis of secondary sources, interviews and observations with members of migrant households (resident at least ten years), village head, land owners and other employers of migrant labor, the study finds that the levels of family welfare generally improved significant after migrating. Quantitative improvement was found in eight indicators: income, consumption or household expenses, home condition, home facility, family health, access to health services, access to education for children, and transportation facilities. The data identifies internal and external factors that were most influential in determining family welfare. Internal factors included the physical, mental emotional, spiritual, good psychological state of family members, and whether or not all family members worked to contribute to family income. External factors included the good geographical conditions in the destination village, which has fertile land and many job opportunities. This study is significant in underlining the importance of supporting migrant rural laborers not only through material and income support, but also through psychological and spiritual support: factors generally overlooked in the literature on rural migration.

Resumen
Beginning around 2014, some significant changes in the livelihoods among many younger men from the Island of Balobaloang, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, emerged. This study describes and explains how it is that approximately 50 working-age adult men (out of a total population of about 900) have turned away from interisland shipping and trade and artisanal fishing and toward wage employment aboard tourist ships, working out of distant ports in Indonesia. This case study uses a qualitative approach to explore and describe the socio-economic life of community members on the island village of Greater Balobaloang as they continue to be affected by economic and environmental changes. Field data collection was carried out through observation, government documents, and in-depth interviews with respondents. In particular, this study focuses on the adaptive strategies of younger men as opportunities for making a living have shifted in recent years away from artisanal fishing and interisland shipping and trade to adventure travel aboard modified traditional sailing ships. It contributes to discussions of internal skilled migration, social mobility and adaptation to the domestic and international tourist industry.

Setyobudi E, Rohmah I, Syarifah RF, Ramatia L, Murwantoko, Sari DWK. 2019. Presence of Anisakis nematode larvae in Indian mackerel (Rastrelliger spp.) along the Indian Ocean southern coast of East Java, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 20: 313-319. In this study, we aimed to determine the prevalence (P), mean intensity (MI) and site of infection of anisakid larvae (Nematoda) in Indian mackerel (Rastrelliger spp.) at the Indian Ocean Southern Coast of East Java. A total of 341 fish were collected from Prigi and Muncar Fish Harbor, East Java during March-April 2018. Each fish specimen was measured in body length and weight, and then dissected for examination of Anisakis larvae in the body cavity, digestive tract, liver, gonad and muscle. The collected larvae were preserved in absolute ethanol for both morphological and molecular identification. The results of this research showed Indian mackerel was susceptible to Anisakis infection (P=17%, MI =6.8 larva/individual fish). Most of the larvae were found in the digestive tract and body cavity, 47.2% and 46.0% respectively. Only a few larvae were found in other internal organs and muscle. Based on morphological identification, these larvae corresponded to Anisakis Type I. Furthermore, in molecular identification using PCR-RFLP, the banding pattern clearly matched with Anisakis typica. The prevalence and mean intensity of Anisakis nematodes on Indian mackerel along the southern coast of East Java seem to be different in each locality and from other adjacent waters as has previously been reported, which may be due to differences in feeding habits and in the distribution of marine mammals as the final host. The results suggest that differences in prevalence and mean intensity of anisakis larvae infection could be developed as a biological indicator of fish stock discrimination. However, clear information regarding food habits of Indian mackerel and migration patterns of the paratenic hosts as well as of marine mammals as final host is needed.

Resumen
PT Vitapharm is a leading cosmetic company in Indonesia that produces cosmeticproducts. In its operational activities, PT Vitapharm still has several obstacles in its business processes, one of the main problems is that some processes still use manual systems and have not yet integrated one process with another because there is no adequate information technology support. Thus, the business processes within the company have not been able to support the company to achieve organizational goals. Therefore, PT Vitapharm requires an Enterprise Architecture design so that the company's business goals can be achieved with the help of information technology. To solve the problems faced by PT Vitapharm can be completed by designing an Enterprise Architecture with the TOGAF framework. TOGAF framework was chosen because it can design and solve problems faced by PT Vitapharm. The stages of designing an Enterprise Architecture with the TOGAF framework start from the preliminary phase, requirements management, architecture vision, business architecture, information system architecture, technology architecture, opportunities and solutions, and migration planning. This study does not use the implementation governance and architecture change management stages. Research using the TOGAF framework produces an enterprise architecture design that can answer the needs of PT Vitapharm in order to adapt to the Information System/Information Technology strategic planning. The results of this study are designs that can be used by PT Vitapharm and become PT Vitapharm's reference in compiling business process improvements so that they can improve the company's internal business processes and can improve operational activities, and can achieve company goals.

Resumen
Abstract. Much research and speculation exists about the meteorological and climatological impacts of biomass burning in the Maritime Continent (MC) of Indonesia and Malaysia, particularly during El Niño events. However, the MC hosts some of the world's most complicated meteorology, and we wish to understand how tropical phenomena at a range of scales influence observed burning activity. Using Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) derived active fire hotspot patterns coupled with aerosol data assimilation products, satellite based precipitation, and meteorological indices, the meteorological context of observed fire prevalence and smoke optical depth in the MC are examined. Relationships of burning and smoke transport to such meteorological and climatic factors as the interannual El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), El Niño Modoki, Indian Ocean Dipole (IOP), the seasonal migration of the Intertropical Convergence Zone, the 30–90 day Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO), tropical waves, tropical cyclone activity, and diurnal convection were investigated. A conceptual model of how all of the differing meteorological scales affect fire activity is presented. Each island and its internal geography have different sensitivities to these factors which are likely relatable to precipitation patterns and land use practices. At the broadest scales as previously reported, we confirm ENSO is indeed the largest factor. However, burning is also enhanced by periods of El Niño Modoki. Conversely IOD influences are unclear. While interannual phenomena correlate to total seasonal burning, the MJO largely controls when visible burning occurs. High frequency phenomena which are poorly constrained in models such as diurnal convection and tropical cyclone activity also have an impact which cannot be ignored. Finally, we emphasize that these phenomena not only influence burning, but also the observability of burning, further complicating our ability to assign reasonable emissions.

Resumen
Abstract. Much research and speculation exists about the meteorological and climatological impacts of biomass burning in the Maritime Continent (MC) of Indonesia and Malaysia, particularly during El Nino events. Relationships of burning and smoke transport to such meteorological and climatic factors as the interannual El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), El Nino Modoki, Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), the seasonal migration of the Intertropical Convergence Zone, the 30–90 day Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO), tropical waves, tropical cyclone activity, and diurnal convection were investigated. A conceptual model of how all of the differing meteorological scales affect fire activity is presented. Each island and its internal geography have different sensitivities to these factors which are likely relatable to precipitation patterns and land use practices. At the broadest scales as previously reported, we corroborate ENSO is indeed the largest factor. However, burning is also enhanced by periods of El Nino Modoki. Conversely, IOD influences are unclear.

Resumen
The increasing migration of Nigerian citizens in Indonesia has a mixed impact. Not only the economic sector, but also the increasing number of violations and immigration crimes. The Immigration Office of West Jakarta, which is the jurisdiction of the distribution of Nigerian residences, faces quite difficult problems. The formulation of the problems to be examined in this paper are as follows: (1) How do immigration actions carried out by Immigration Office of West Jakarta in resolving cases of Nigerian citizens who exceed the immigration residence permit time limit and (2) What are the obstacles faced by Immigration Office of West Jakarta in resolving the case. The research method used is qualitative empirical legal research. Based on the results of the discussion, the following legal facts are obtained. The efforts made by Immigration Office of West Jakarta in overcoming abuse of immigration permits by Nigerian citizens are divided into 2 (two) parts, namely preventive efforts and repressive efforts. Preventive efforts carried out by the Immigration Office of West Jakarta are well underway and in accordance with existing regulations. The preventive efforts are realized in 2 (two) systems, namely administrative supervision and field supervision. In addition, these preventive efforts have proven effective with quite a number of Nigerians who abuse immigration permits by the Immigration Office of West Jakarta. Then the existing repressions are felt to require changes in the granting of actions / punishments against Nigerian people who abuse immigration permits. The change is in the form of providing legal action for investigating the violators to take precedence. Because all this time what happened in the field of giving immigration action was prioritized in giving action to Nigerian people who misused immigration permits. Even though the provision of immigration actions does not give a deterrent effect to these actors. So that the impact of these actors will do the same thing again. In practice, in the field of supervision and repression of Nigerian citizens who abuse immigration residence permits carried out by the Immigration Office of West Jakarta, there must be various problems. These problems are divided into 2 (two) factors, namely from the outside and from within. The external factor itself consists of the motives of some Nigerian citizens who came to Indonesia. Then there is a fictitious sponsor that increasingly makes it difficult to trace the perpetrators of abuse of immigration permits. Furthermore, the imbalance between the area of West Jakarta's work area and the number of personnel and equipment that does not support this. Then from the point of view of internal factors which are the obstacles is the lack of supporting factors in carrying out supervision and repression of Nigerian citizens who abuse immigration permits. Finally, the attitude of the immigration officers was less assertive in giving action to Nigerian citizens who committed abuse of immigration permits.

Resumen
The Phenomenon of Feminization of Indonesian Workers has placed women in strategic positions in the family. One reason is the number of economic and social remittances they have. The great number of remittances requires the optimization of the utilization of remittances through economic and social entrepreneurship. The success of strengthening this Retiring Female Indonesian Workers is a strategic matter. In the long run, there will be an increase in the quality of life of the Indonesian workers’ households. However, this study proves that Remitan and the social (network) of retiring women do not necessarily increase or strengthen their economic roles. The articulation of the roles and position of retiring female Indonesian workers (migrants) in the family and community in developing businesses (social and economic entrepreneurship) lacks significant influence. Why has the entrepreneurship of retiring female workers failed to be achieved? This study with the anthropological approach to migration proves that there are three important factors that influence it, i.e.the low capacity of female migrants to using the accumulation of income while working abroad and the internal conditions of family gender relations, and the low facilitation capacity of institutions/agencies for social change towards migrant families.

Resumen
One of the important issues in the Indonesian labor market is an educational mismatch. And one of the implications caused by educational mismatch is that the wages received are unsuitable with the educational qualifications have. This study attempts to relate the educational mismatch phenomenon to the issue of internal migration. Hence, this study aimed to reveal the effect of educational mismatch on the earning of workers, especially migrant and native workers. The discussion of educational mismatch was more specific to migrant workers and native workers because these two types of workers had quite different potential earnings. The data used in this research were gained from the National Labor Force Survey (SAKERNAS) in August 2019. The unit of analysis used was workers with labor/employees’ status other than TNI/POLRI aged 15-64 years and over. The results showed that migrant workers were more likely to experience over education than native workers, and native workers were more likely to experience undereducation than migrant workers. Then, based on the results of the multiple linear regression analysis, it was found that migrant workers encountered greater wage penalties than native workers.

Resumen
For five decades Tanah Papua, or the West Papua half of the island of New Guinea on the intersection of Asia and the Pacific, has been a critical issue for the region with a majority of the Melanesian population supporting self-determination, and ultimately independence. While being prepared for eventual post-war independence by the Dutch colonial authorities, Indonesian paratroopers and marines invaded the territory in 1962 in an ill-fated military expedition dubbed Operation Trikora (‘People’s Triple Command’). However, this eventually led to the so-called Act of Free Choice in 1969 under the auspices of the United Nations in a sham referendum dubbed by critics as an ‘Act of No Choice’ which has been disputed ever since as a legal basis for Indonesian colonialism. A low-level insurgency waged by the OPM (Free West Papua Movement) has also continued and Jakarta maintains its control through the politics of oppression and internal migration. For more than five decades, the legacy media in New Zealand have largely ignored this issue on their doorstep, preferring to give attention to Fiji and a so-called coup culture instead. In the past five years, social media have contributed to a dramatic upsurge of global awareness about West Papua but still the New Zealand legacy media have failed to take heed. This article also briefly introduces other Asia-Pacific political issues—such as Kanaky, Timor-Leste, Papua New Guinean university student unrest, the militarisation of the Mariana Islands and the Pacific’s Nuclear Zero lawsuit against the nine nuclear powers—ignored by a New Zealand media that has no serious tradition of independent foreign correspondence.

Resumen
Lower-stratospheric and upper-tropospheric disturbances over Thailand during 12–21 January 2000 were studied using the Global Energy and Water Cycle Experiment (GEWEX) Asian Monsoon Experiment-Tropics (GAME-T) intensive rawinsonde observations with fine temporal sampling intervals of 3 h. Analysis was focused on the wind disturbances with a period shorter than about 10 days. Frequency spectra showed three distinct peaks: a 1-day period above a height of 20 km, a near-inertial period around 19 and 27 km, and periods of 2.5–9 days (or longer) in the height range of 12–17 km. The wave with a 1-day period was interpreted as a diurnal tide. A comparison with the migrating tide in the global-scale wave model showed that the observational results had larger amplitude and shorter vertical wavelength than the model. The difference between the observation and the model may be caused by the superposition of the nonmigrating tide. The wave with the near-inertial period was interpreted as an internal inertial gravity wave. A hodograph analysis was performed in order to investigate the wave properties. It was found that the wave, which appeared at a height around 19 km (just above the tropopause level), propagated southwestward with a ground-based group velocity of about 1.4 m s−1. The longer period disturbances, which appeared at heights of 12–17 km, had layered structures with the vertical scales of 2–4 km. They were considered to be due to inertial instability, based on the fact that the potential vorticity of the background atmosphere was nearly zero and that their phase structures were consistent with theory. It was shown by a backward trajectory analysis that the air parcel with negative potential vorticity had its origin in equatorial Indonesia. It was also shown by a forward trajectory analysis that the air parcel was transported to the Pacific south of Japan. This is consistent with the existence of similar layered disturbances that are shown using rawinsonde data at a station there.

Informal employment is a critical source of income for both internal migrants and non-migrants. This study uses the Rural–Urban Migration in Indonesia (RUMiI) project data for 2008 and 2009 to investigate the role of informal employment in earnings among internal migrants and non-migrants in Indonesia while considering the broader nature of informal employment and remuneration. Results show that when using a detailed measure of informality, income consequences of more intensive informal employment are severe, which had not been recognised in the literature. Some of the largest earnings reductions resulting from moving to more informal employment were experienced by non-migrants.

Resumen
Tuna is a type of large pelagic fish migrating and spreading in tropical and subtropical waters. In general, Indonesian waters are one of the tuna migration routes. The waters of the western part of Indonesia, especially the Simeulue Waters in the Fisheries Management Area (WPP) 572 Indonesia. One type of tuna was found there, namely Gymnosarda unicolor species, Family: Scombridae with the general name dogtooth tuna while the local name is tuna sisik bergigi, and or tuna karang. The sustainability of tuna fish resources can be threatened if the size of the fish stock is not known, one of which is the suitable size for catching. This study examined and identified the length and growth pattern of tuna gigi anjing that were landed in fish auction area of East Simeulue. The research was conducted in May-July 2021. The data collected was in the form of fork length data. The frequency of fish length to determine the class interval was analyzed using the frequency distribution formula. Fish growth parameters were analyzed using ELEFAN 1 contained in the FISAT II program. The number of tuna gigi anjing (Gymnosarda unicolor (Ruppell)) that was successfully measured was 190 individuals. The size of the fork length ranged in the interval of 44.1 to 101.3 cm. The length of first caught tuna gigi anjing (Lc) was at 59.2 cm, the asymptotic length (L) was 98.7 cm, the growth rate (K) was 0.8/year and the zero fish growth rate (t0) was of 0.09/year.

Resumen
Purpose This study aims to examine the interactive effect of the push factor from the conventional bank, the pull factor from the Islamic bank and the internal mooring factor of the customers in influencing the switching behavior of two types of customer account holders, the conventional only and the mixed (conventional and Islamic bank) account holders, from the services marketing mix perspective. Design/methodology/approach This study applied an explanatory research design. The data were collected via an online survey from 1,171 Muslim participants; participants consisted of conventional only account holders, Islamic bank only account holders and mixed (conventional and Islamic bank) account holders. The data were mainly analyzed using structural equation modeling. Findings Based on the account, the results showed that the three types of customers differ significantly in terms of the effect of the push, pull and mooring factors. The study also showed that the mooring factor, which is internal to the customer, is the most significant factor that inhibits customers from migrating to Islamic banks. The effect was observed for both conventional customers and those who hold mixed accounts. Research limitations/implications The study was conducted via an online survey, which reduces the representativeness of the sample. In addition, most respondents were urban dwellers and well educated, which might not represent the banking behaviour of Indonesian Muslim customers in general. Practical implications The study implies that to attract the conventional only account holder, Islamic banks should first weaken the mooring factors (the internal characteristics of the customers) that inhibit customers from switching to an Islamic bank. Originality/value The main contribution of the study is that it simultaneously identifies the push, pull and mooring factors that have the most significant impacts on Muslim customers' switching behavior from a conventional to an Islamic bank.
