Resumen
Though there is an extensive body of research regarding information and communication technology (ICT) use in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), relatively few studies have examined ICT use specifically in the subset of SMEs known as micro-enterprises. This study compares ICT use among micro-enterprises (MEs) in the agricultural sector. Factors expected to influence IC adoption include firm size, CEO education, and the type of crop produced. Results indicate extensive use of computers and the Internet, especially for functions like email, online purchasing, and online business-related research, while website ownership is less widespread. Larger MEs are more likely than smaller ones to use a computer. Among those MEs owning computers, larger ones are more likely than smaller ones to have a website and to conduct financial activities online. However, most other ICTs (email, online purchasing, etc.) are used similarly by both smaller and larger MEs. Thus, for most internet ICTs micro-enterprise growth does not result in differing adoption rates. The study also investigates micro-enterprise use of emerging social technologies like instant messaging, chat, blogging, etc. Micro-entrepreneurs’ perceptions of ICT benefits and implications for development are also discussed.

In New Zealand, where it is more common to export lamb, one micro-enterprise – consisting of an entrepreneur and two assistants – is exporting Angus beef. A case study approach was used to gain an understanding of the international entrepreneurship of such a small firm. The methodology adopted was in-depth interviewing. The article provides insights into what an entrepreneur faces when developing a new export venture in the absence of government support.

Resumen
Payments of the micro-enterprise tax have been increasingly chosen by micro-enterprises since it is an opportunity to simplify the fulfillment of tax payment obligations as well as to decrease the tax burden for companies. The micro-enterprise tax has several drawbacks: it decreases the social security of micro-enterprise employees, restricts growth opportunities, as well as encourages artificial inclusion of the company into the status of micro-enterprises in order to decrease the tax burden. Nevertheless, the micro-enterprise tax can be considered as a good fiscal instrument to promote business activities thus providing employment. The paper analyses the results of the micro-enterprise tax implementation in Latvia.

Resumen
The increasing use of micro-blogging as a marketing tool has increased research attention on usage and business value of enterprise micro-blogging. Based on research on information system (IS) usage and resource-based view (RBV) theory, this study develops a model to reveal the mechanism of business value creation of enterprise micro-blogging. The model consists of metrics on micro-blogging usage, micro-blogging operational performance, marketing capability, and firm performance. Questionnaires were distributed to firms that use micro-blogging. This study collects 241 valid responses for empirical analysis. The results suggest that the use of enterprise micro-blogging improves operational performance of enterprise micro-blogging directly and indirectly by increasing marketing capability, while operational performance of enterprise micro-blogging significantly affects firm performance. This study extends the stream of research that combines IS usage and RBV theory.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop a distinctive formula (framework) for micro-enterprise success. As the success of micro-enterprise is under debate from many decades, however, the researchers and entrepreneurs are unable to find the unique factor to develop a comprehensive framework. Design/Methodology/Approach: The current study is based on conceptual framework. Prior studies are used to develop the framework and hypothesis. Moreover, conclusion is based on literature review. Findings: It is investigated that, microfinance factors (i.e., micro-credit and micro-training) has a positive relationship with micro-enterprise success. However, among all other microfinance factors (i.e., micro-saving, micro-insurance, social capital), micro-credit and micro-training have relatively higher effect on microenterprise performance followed by a level of education. Moreover, it is found that education mediates the relation between microfinance factors and micro-enterprise success. Implications/Originality/Value: This study contributed to the body of knowledge by developing a micro-enterprise success formula for researchers and entrepreneurs, which ultimately improve the performance of micro-enterprises. Hence, the current study is beneficial for microfinance institutions and other practitioners to enhance micro-enterprise success.

Resumen
The prime objective of the study is to highlight the role of the capital mix (financial capital, social capital, human capital) on women micro-enterprise success with moderating role of previous work experience. Women owned micro-enterprise success is less as compared to the male owned micro-enterprsie, particularly in Pakistan. Rate of faliure in women micro-enterpeise is more, that is the reason women community is one of the most vulnerable group worldwide. It is evident from literature that less attention has been paid to highlight the importance of three types of capital for women micro-enterprise. To adress this issue, the current study adopted quantitative research approach and based on cross-sectional research design. Primary data was collected by using 5-point Likert scale. Questionnaires were distributed among the owners of women micro-enterprise in Pakistan by using area cluster sampling. SmartPLS 3 was used to analyze the data. It is found that financial capital, social capital and human capital has significant positive relationship with women micro-enterprise success and previous work experience moderates the relationship. Hence, this study contributed by developing a unique framework for women micro-enterprise success. It will be beneficial for practitioners to enhance women micro-enterprise success rate.

Resumen
Abstract Rural micro-enterprises are an important factor in sustainable rural development in post-transitional Eastern Europe. This paper deals with determining the key factors influencing profitability in rural micro-enterprises in Poland. The research design was based on a questionnaire survey of 300 rural micro-enterprises in the food-processing sector in rich and poor Polish provinces. The analysis carried out in this study is centered around the Polish EU accession in May 2004. Similar to other related studies, our results show that EU accession was not perceived as a major change by rural Polish micro-entrepreneurs and that the EU related factors were not significant determinants of their profitability. However, our results also show that the success of the rural food processing micro-enterprise in Eastern Europe is most related to its owner/manager and enterprise characteristics. For the owner/manager the most significant determinants are his/her age and risk-taking as the main motive for establishing an enterprise. The enterprise characteristics that determine the profitability include enterprise location within a region with competitive situation, enterprise size (being a sole trader or family enterprise), IC T advancements in enterprise and the fact whether the enterprise has any certificates for its products. The results have significant implications for the researchers and policy-makers and can become a basis for preparing relevant enterprise support policies in post-transitional Eastern Europe

Resumen
This study assessed the impact of micro-enterprise development initiatives (commonly provide access to financial services and micro-enterprise development training programs to low-income households) upon competitive advantages, performance, and sustainability of micro-enterprises owned and managed by selected low-income households in Peninsular Malaysia. Upon the adoption of cross-sectional design, data were randomly gathered from 300 micro-entrepreneurs residing in four states of Peninsular Malaysia selected from the eKasih database (national poverty data bank). The quantitative data had been collected by holding structured interview sessions with the participants from October until November 2017. The study outcomes revealed that the total amount of economic loan received, the total number of training hours and the number of center meetings/discussion attended exerted significantly positive effects upon competitive advantage, while marital status (control variable) was found to affect competitive advantage in a significantly positive manner. As for micro-enterprise performance, length of participation and number of center meetings/discussions attended as well as marital status as the control variable exhibited significantly positive effects. Meanwhile, the impact of participation duration, total amount of economic loan received, and number of center meetings/discussions attended upon micro-enterprise sustainability seemed to be inconclusive. Additionally, age of entrepreneurs and duration of enterprises establishment (micro-enterprise established) appeared to affect the aspect of sustainability. The findings appear to emphasize on the mixed effects of participation in development initiatives on competitive advantage, performance, and sustainability of micro-enterprises. Hence, this study recommends that the government of Malaysia formulate and adopt more specific strategies and policies in advocating development initiatives to ensure positive progression amongst micro-entrepreneurs and micro-enterprise owners.

Resumen
Towards improving the socio-economic condition of low-income households, development organizations offer a repertoire of initiatives. This study focused on the impacts of access to working capital and enterprise development training programs, on the performance and sustainability of micro-enterprises owned and managed by low-income households, in the state of Kelantan, Peninsular Malaysia. The data of 450 micro-entrepreneurs, was randomly selected from the participants’ list of three development organizations servicing Kelantan: Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM); National Entrepreneurs Economic Group Fund (TEKUN); and Malaysia Fisheries Development Board (LKIM). This study revealed several participation indicators (i.e., years of participation, total number of trainings, total number of training hours received, and number of center meetings or discussions attended, etc.), which have a positive effect on micro-enterprise performance and sustainability. However, the findings were inconclusive as one of the key participation indicators, ‘total amount of economic loans received’, showed a negative (not statistically significant) effect on micro-enterprise performance and sustainability. This study expanded the limited literature on micro-enterprise performance and sustainability, and the role of working capital and enterprise development training programs; thus providing a clearer understanding of the effectiveness of current development initiatives.

Resumen
This research aims to analyze the nonlinear relationship among environmental regulation, technology innovation and enterprise value and provide a micro level of enterprise view on environmental regulation. Taking 1714 A-share listed companies in China’s manufacturing industry from 2017 to 2020, a panel regression model was conducted to explore how environmental regulation influences enterprise value. The empirical research results show that: (1) the total effect of environmental regulation on enterprise value is U-shaped and that the technological innovation of enterprises has a partial intermediary effect between environmental regulation and enterprise value; (2) financial flexibility can significantly mitigate the impact of environmental regulations on enterprise value. This study provides a micro-level view of the influencing effect of environmental regulation on enterprise value.

Resumen
Micro-enterprises have a significant role in the country’s economy. However, business owners must face various problems to develop their business. One of the problems is the limited funding for micro-enterprises due to the low financial literacy of business owners. In addition, the business owner’s tolerance for risk is also expected to affect the financial management of micro-enterprises. This study aims to determine the level of financial literacy andtolerance of business owners and the financial management of micro-enterprises. This research method uses a questionnaire distributed to micro-enterprise owners in Central Java Province and Yogyakarta Special Region. The results showed that the level of financial literacy of micro-enterprise owners was in the medium category. Micro-enterprise owners have a neutral attitude towards risk and are not individuals who dare to take risks but do not avoid risk. Financial management carried out by business owners is still in the poor category. Improvement of financial literacy, understanding of risks, and financial management of micro-enterprises still need to be done.

Resumen
Research analysis of small enterprises are still rare, due to lack of individual level data. Small enterprise failures are connected not only with their financial situation abut also with non-financial factors. In recent research we tend to apply more and more complex models. However, it is not so obvious that increasing complexity increases the effectiveness. In this paper the sample of 806 small enterprises were analyzed. Qualitative factors were used in modeling. Some simple and more complex models were estimated, such as logistic regression, decision trees, neural networks, gradient boosting, and support vector machines. Two hypothesis were verified: (i) not only financial ratios but also non-financial factors matter for small enterprise survival, and (ii) advanced statistical models and data mining techniques only insignificantly increase the prediction accuracy of small enterprise failures. Results show that simple models are as good as more complex model. Data mining models tend to be overfitted. Most important financial ratios in predicting small enterprise failures were: operating profitability of assets, current assets turnover, capital ratio, coverage of short-term liabilities by equity, coverage of fixed assets by equity, and the share of net financial surplus in total liabilities. Among non-financial factors only two of them were important: the sector of activity and employment.
