Resumen
Purpose Automated flow line manufacturing systems are becoming more and more relevant in industry, especially in the food and beverage sector. Improving the efficiency of automated flow line manufacturing systems is the core objectives of all companies as measured by the overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) index. The purpose of this paper is to carry out an innovative micro downtime data collection and statistical analysis in the food and beverage sector; it introduces a numerical indicator called “Cost Performance Indicator-CPI” to estimate the performance improvement of investment activities. Moreover this analysis will be used as a basis to carry out a new simulative model to study micro downtime of automatic production lines. In addition, the presented micro downtime data collection and statistical analysis will be used to construct a new simulative model to support improvement activities. Design/methodology/approach Descriptive and statistical analyses are carried out about OEE, time to repair (TTR) and time to failure (TTF) data. The least efficient production line is identified and principal causes of inefficiency are investigated. Micro downtime (downtime lower than 15 minutes) covers 57 percent of inefficiency. Investigations are carried out into the three principal machines affected by this inefficiency. The study then investigates the causes of micro downtime of these machines using ad hoc data collection and analysis. The probability distributions of TTF and TTR are evaluated and an analysis of micro downtime causes and a cause-effect is carried out. The most attractive investment in terms of recoverable OEE (1.44 percent) and costs is analyzed through the calculation of a CPI. One of the conclusions is to recommend the introduction of a payback period with a variable contribution margin. Findings This study get the basis for the construction of a new simulative model based on ad hoc micro downtime probability distributions, applied in automated flow line manufacturing systems. It gives an effort to downtime analysis in automated production lines and a guideline for future analysis. Results of this study can be generalized and extended to other similar cases, in order to study similar micro downtime inefficiency of other production lines. The statistical analysis developed could also potentially be used to further investigate the relationship between the reliability of specific machines and that of the entire line. Originality/value The case study presents a new detailed micro downtime data collection and statistical analysis in the beverage sector with the application of a numerical indicator, the CPI, in order to drive future actions. In addition, the presented micro downtime data collection and statistical analysis will be used to construct a new simulative model to support improvement activities. Moreover, results can be generalized and used as a basis for other micro downtime analyses involving the main causes of inefficiency in automated production lines.

Resumen
Micro-milling forces, cutting temperature, and thermal–mechanical coupling are the key research topics about the mechanism of micro-milling nickel-based superalloy Inconel 718. Most current analyses of thermal–mechanical coupling in micro-milling are based on finite element or experimental methods. The simulation is not conducive to revealing the micro-milling mechanism, while the results of experiments are only valid for certain machine tool and workpiece material. Few analytical coupling models of cutting force and cutting temperature during micro-milling process have been proposed. Therefore, the authors studied coupled thermal–mechanical analyses of micro-milling Inconel 718 and presented a revised three-dimensional analytical model of micro-milling forces, which considers the effects of the cutting temperature and the ploughing force caused by the arc of cutting edge during shear-dominant cutting process. Then, an analytical cutting temperature model based on Fourier’s law is presented by regarding the contact area as a moving finite-length heat source. Coupling calculation between micro-milling force model and temperature model through an iterative process is conducted. The novelty is including cutting temperature into micro-milling force model, which simulates the interaction between cutting force and cutting temperature during micro-milling process. The established model predicts both micro-milling force and temperature. Finally, experiments are conducted to verify the accuracy of the proposed analytical method. Based on the coupled thermal–mechanical analyses and experimental results, the authors reveal the effects of cutting parameters on micro-milling forces and temperature.

Resumen
Cobalt alloy on chromium thin film magnetic media are used in industry computer hard disk drives because of their large values of coercivity (Hc), remanent magnetization (Mr), squareness (S*), and relatively low noise. The magnetic performance depends strongly on processing conditions and the resulting nanometer scale microstructure.A complete structure-processing-properties analysis requires effective measurement of magnetic and microstructural properties. To date, most structure-properties analyses have involved correlation of bulk magnetic (hysteresis loop) properties and magnetic recording measurements with physical microstructures observed by high-resolution SEM and TEM.The nanoscale microstructural features that dramatically affect magnetic properties are difficult to observe but careful TEM analysis has been used to observe subtle, important differences in the atomic scale physical microstructure. Even these impressive capabilities are becoming insufficient for continued development of improved magnetic recording media. Microstructural design is moving into a regime where appropriate control of magnetic properties requires control of elemental composition and second phase formation as well as crystallography and morphology, at near-atomic levels.

Resumen
The steady streaming (SS) phenomenon is gaining increased attention in the microfluidics community, because it can generate net mass flow from zero-mean vibration. We developed numerical simulation and experimental measurement tools to analyze this vibration-induced flow, which has been challenging due to its unsteady nature. The validity of these analysis methods is confirmed by comparing the three-dimensional (3D) flow field and the resulting particle trajectories induced around a cylindrical micro-pillar under circular vibration. In the numerical modeling, we directly solved the flow in the Lagrangian frame so that the substrate with a micro-pillar becomes stationary, and the results were converted to a stationary Eulerian frame to compare with the experimental results. The present approach enables us to avoid the introduction of a moving boundary or infinitesimal perturbation approximation. The flow field obtained by the micron-resolution particle image velocimetry (micro-PIV) measurement supported the three-dimensionality observed in the numerical results, which could be important for controlling the mass transport and manipulating particulate objects in microfluidic systems.

Resumen
AbstractIn order to analyze the boiling and capillary limitations of two-phase heat transport devices, the existing models developed by Chi and Peterson and the existing experimental data carried out with various micro channel wick structures from literature were collected for benchmark. It was found that the dominant parameters for boiling and capillary limitations were the nucleation sites and structure geometries of the micro channels, and important parameters were considered to modify the models empirically. It was also found that for micro channel structures the inclined angle is sensitive to the capillary limitations and not to boiling limitations. By properly estimating the nucleation sites and empirical coefficients for micro channels needed by the newly modified models, the boiling and capillary limitations can be accurately predicted, and hence the applicability of the modified models is confirmed. Based on this, a numerical analysis was then carried out to investigate the trends of boiling and capillary limitations of the micro channel wick structures. Effects of the channel geometries and arrangement were taken into account, including the aspect ratio and structure size of the micro channels. Furthermore, the effects of inclined angle and contact angle were also analyzed. The present results can provide a design reference of performance trends of micro channel wick structures.

Resumen
Photothermal spectroscopy, a remarkable detection method that can analyze microscale objects in a noninvasive and nondestructive manner, has been successfully coupled with micro/nanofluidic devices. Specifically, methods that employ a thermal lens microscope (TLM), including a photothermal optical phase shift and photothermal optical diffraction, are a powerful tool for the sensitive detection of nonfluorescent or nonlabeled molecules in micro/nanofluidic channels. This review focuses on the family of TLMs in terms of their historical development. Their recent applications, ranging from separation, particle, biomedical, energy, and environmental analyses, are summarized, and future perspectives in nanoscale liquid science, system integration, and biological studies, such as single-cell analyses, are also discussed.

The passivation cracking of Micro-structures of IC packages is studied by maximum principal stress theory using a certain 2D FEM model with different design parameters, pitch of lines, width of line, thickness of epoxy, thickness of dielectric layer, thickness of glue, the glue material’s yielding stress and Aluminium yielding stress (following as “d”, “w”, “t_epo”, “t_Teos”, “t_glue” “sy_glue” and “sy_al” respectively). For different critical process steps, the final process temperature is acted as a representative parameter to analyze its impact. Furthermore, Response Surface Model (RSM) of principal stress is established using any two design parameters. Results show that “d”, “w”, “t_epo”, “sy_glue” and “sy_al” will have great influence on passivation cracking while “t_Teos” have a little impact.

Resumen
The structure and principle of silicon micro-machined gyroscope used for rotating carrier is introduced. The dynamic equations of axially moving are derived by analyzing three-axis moving of MEMS three-axis simulator. The result of simulation shows three moving locus of the head of rolling airframe missile, and three output signals from silicon micro-machined gyroscope which fix on inner plate of three-axis simulator, some rules of three output signals of three moving locus are gained. The signal of the gyroscope couples the frequency of the rotating carrier which makes the coning motion, so the frequency of the coning motion is contained when detecting the frequency of the rotating carrier using the signal of the gyroscope. By analyzing the output signals using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) algorithm, subtracting the frequency of the rotating carrier, and the relative error is only 1.25% by detecting the self-rotating frequency of the rotating carrier.

Resumen
This paper reports a study of a micro-EDM process to fabricate micro-through holes in 30 micron thick copper sheets. Circular holes in various micro-sizes were produced by a micro-EDM machine and with tungsten electrodes. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersion spectroscopy (EDX) were used to identify the influence of electric sparks on the quality of the fabricated features by careful study of resulted cavitation, adhesion of debris, and re-solidification of molten materials, etc. Such analyses allow the generalization of the relevant fabrication mechanisms. In addition, measurements of overcut of the holes facilitate a working model to be developed for predicting the overcut as a function of process parameters including the discharge capacitance and the working voltage of the circuitry. Results of this study enable the derivation of proper settings for fabricating holes of good quality and permit the precision fabrication of the range of micro-throughholes.

Resumen
Forming micro-dimples nearer to the cutting edge on the rack face of the tungsten carbide cutting inserts will positively influence the machinability. However, it is challenging to machine the perfect micro-dimple dimensions by utilizing the available machining techniques. Finite element analysis can be an efficient way to observe the influence of dimple-texture area density, micro-dimple size, and various micro-dimple shapes on cutting inserts' machinability. This paper numerically analyses the impact of micro-dimple-textured cutting inserts in dry machining of AISI H-13 steel using AdvantEdge (virtual machining and finite element analysis software). Micro-dimples are formed on the rack face of tungsten carbide cutting inserts to observe the effect of dimple-textured cutting inserts on machinability compared to non-textured cutting inserts in terms of micro-dimple shape, micro-dimple size, and micro-dimple area density ratio. Their outcomes are analysed in terms of chip-insert contact length, main cutting force, and thrust force. It is observed that micro-dimple textured cutting inserts exhibit minimal main cutting force and thrust force in line with increasing the cutting insert life span. The abrasive wear was reduced in dimple-textured cutting inserts due to minimal contact between the cutting insert and chip developed compared to non-textured cutting inserts.

Resumen
The main influence factors on mechanical properties of ceramic composites reinforced by spherical nano-micro particles are investigated in this study. The sizes of the particles vary from micro (0.5 µm) to nano-scale (40 nm). Two kinds of representative volume elements (RVE) are applied to describe different arrays of nano-micro particles. One is the nesting array in which a nano-particle is nested within the microscopic particles, and the other is the enwrapping array in which a micro-particle is enwrapped by some nano-particles. The finite element (FE) analysis is conducted by the global-local homogenization method with precise period boundary conditions. The numerical simulation is performed with the changes of radius ratios of nano-micro particles, volume fractions and the interfacial properties. The results show that the effective Young's modulus of the composites with the enwrapping array has an obvious increase as compared to those with the nesting array for high volume fraction of micro-particles, and it is dependent on the radius ratios of nano-micro particles within certain volume fractions. The interfacial damage between nano-micro particles and their matrix decreases significantly the effective Young's modulus. It is significant to improve the mechanical properties of ceramic materials by mixing some nano- and micro-particles into the matrix with mature interface properties.

Resumen
We study here the influence of micro-turbulence in the synthesis of H and He lines, in order to quantify its effect on the determination of stellar parameters of O-type stars, in particular on the stellar He abundance. We find that only He I lines and He II λ 4686 are considerably affected, the effect being more relevant for models corresponding to supergiant stars. We also find that neglecting micro-turbulence in the analyses of O-type stars introduces deviations in the derived parameters that are within our standard error box. The He content is not or slightly reduced, thus micro-turbulence cannot be responsible for the He-discrepancy to all its extent.

Resumen
Abstract Microseismic monitoring has been used for gathering subsurface information in Geothermal field as part of reservoir monitoring and management plan. New micro earthquake (MEQ) stations were installed in the Muara Laboh geothermal field in the end of 2019, coinciding with the first operation of Unit-1. They have been continuously used to monitor the MEQ events until now. This paper discusses MEQ data analyses to support the subsurface structural interpretation in the Muara Laboh geothermal field. Geothermal production and injection activities create micro seismicity which is triggered by stress failure in fractures / fault planes due to percolation of fluid within fractures network. Distribution of hypocenter locations and magnitude are analyzed, considering highly operational activities, rock mechanic and slip orientation. There are two micro seismicity clusters observed, namely South and North clusters. The South cluster represents 80% of the total recorded micro seismicity events, having NE – SW trend direction; while the North cluster consists of 10% of the total events, correlated with the NNW – SSE structural trend direction. Focal mechanism analysis explains that micro seismicity observed on extended fault zone in the south is thought to be correlated with the distributed fractured network on the hanging wall of normal fault. It is shown by some micro seismicity swarms identified in the south basin-sidewall fault area. These orientations support the current kinematic model of the Muara Laboh geothermal field derived from the structural geology mapping and borehole image logs.

Resumen
The parametric thermal field analyses were realized by the finite element method. The analysis was run in the software solver COSMOS/DesignSTAR thermal. The thermal module makes possible to realize cases of the thermal dependences on the material properties. Material data can be entered as a function of the temperature. The thermal and physical characteristic of the polymeric materials are changed very expressively. The output of the analysis was temperature distribution described by various colors and assigned values in the spectrogram.

Resumen
The increasing demand for small and cheap parts is boosting the development of reliable micro-system technologies. Fabrication process capabilities should expand to encompass a wider range of materials and geometric forms, which can satisfy the specific requirements of new emerging micro-products, and ensure the compatibility of new materials and processing technologies. Polymeric composites are very promising materials, since they offer new combinations of properties not available in traditional homogeneous materials. Because of their advantageous light weight, high strength, fatigue life, and corrosion resistance, they are forecast to replace conventional materials in several applications. Among the plastic process technologies, injection moulding is one of the key technologies for manufacturing miniaturised components due to its mass production capability and relatively low production cost. Micro-injection moulding allows to transfer micron and even submicron precision features to small products. Since final product properties strongly depend on materials and production processes and parameters, the process conditions of compounding as well as of product manufacturing have to be carefully studied and controlled. This is particularly important for the manufacturing of micro-products, since, at the micro-scale, some phenomena negligible at the macro-scale (as hesitation effect or capillarity forces for examples) can become important. However, only few studies concern the micro-injection of nanocomposites. Therefore, in this paper the micro-injection of two composites made of polyoxymethylene and carbon nanotubes has been studied. First, the electrical properties of the compounds have been measured; the fillers are dispersed in the matrix and form a network that dramatically increases the conductivity of the composites in comparison with the pristine resin. Then the compounds have been injected using a micro-injection machine and the components have been analysed. The mechanical analysis, based on tensile tests and dynamic-mechanical experiments on miniaturised dog-bone specimens, shows a slight reinforcing effect of the filler; however, the ductility is considerably reduced. This is likely due to a scarce adhesion of the carbon nanotubes and the polymer and the presence of some agglomerates. Moreover, as expected, the mould temperature affects the mechanical properties of the specimens, probably due to its effect on the internal structure of the solidified materials. The dimensional analyses carried out on micro-rib specimens show that replication capability is increased by the presence of the filler and using high values of the process parameters. Finally, microscopic analyses have been done in order to verify the dispersion and orientation of the fillers in the compounds. These effects have been observed only when high shear rates are involved.

Resumen
For a quick analysis of simple mixtures of lower chlorinated hydrocarbons a possible application has been studied of short glass micro-packed columns packed with commercial sorbents for extraction by solid phase. For analyses of lower alcohols, carboxylic acids, and other oxygen-containing substances the columns were packed with the organic porous sorbent, a copolymer of divinylbenzene and 1,4-di(methacryloyloxymethyl)naphthalene. The chosen sorbents were placed into glass capillary columns of 0.4 - 0.7 m length and 0.7 mm i.d. As the sorbent amount in the column is small, the columns are cheap. Whenever necessary, they can be prepared in any laboratory. The analyses of simple mixtures of above-mentioned classes of compounds lasted from 90 to 270 s.

Resumen
Investigation of the bone mineral density (BMD), microstructural and mechanical properties in the Otsuka Long Evans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) and Otsuka Long Evans Tokushima Fatty (LETO) rats were performed. The BMD and microstructural analyses were carried out using PIXI-mus and non-invasive highresolution micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) system. The mechanical properties analyses were determined by finite element analysis based on micro-images. The BMD was significantly larger in LETO rat than in OLETF rat. The microstructural and mechanical properties were deteriorated and decreased in OLETF rat. The results showed that bone strength is decreased in OLETF in spite of high body weight.

Resumen
In TIARA facility of JAERI, a scanning transmission ion microscopy (STIM) technique was introduced to the light ion microbeam system, so as to make direct beam positioning to samples for micro-PIXE analyses in the atmosphere. STIM is a low current (less than fA level) and high efficient sample imaging technique, which does not induce radiation damage even to biological cells for beam positioning before micro-PIXE analysis. The sample (bovine aortic endothelial cells) was prepared using a freeze-dry method on a thin polymer film which act not only as a sample backing foil but also as a beam extraction window to the atmosphere. A Si PIN photodiode (cover glass removed) was set just behind the sample in the atmosphere to measure the energy of proton microbeams passing through the sample and the window. STIM images were obtained in a short time, and corresponded with elemental maps obtained by subsequent micro-PIXE analyses. This paper will describe details of the experimental system and show preliminary results of STIM imaging and micro-PIXE analyses.

Resumen
The aim of this study was to investigate the theories and research topics that guided the micro-foundations of the strategic management discipline between the years 2000-2020 and to make suggestions about the future of micro-foundations research. In the study, 122 articles were analyzed by the structured literature review method. In the research, qualitative content analyses were used and an inductive analysis was performed. As a result of the analyses, theories were classified based on the disciplines. In research topics, sub-categories were determined by bringing together the similar topics. Then, research topics are coded from subcategories to basic categories. The findings indicated that the micro-foundations of strategic management were dominated by behavioral theory of the firm, evolutionary theories of economic change and Coleman's social theory between the years 2000-2010. In addition to these three theories, the effects of actor-social network theories, theory of practice, behavioral decision theory, goal framing theory, organizational learning theory, upper echelon theory and transactive memory system were present between the years 2011-2020. According to the findings, variables such as cognition, motivation, human resources management, human capital, managers and individual variables were investigated in the micro-foundations of macro-strategic phenomena at the levels of capabilities, organization and network between the years 2000-2010. Between the years 2011-2020, macro-phenomena such as context, acquisition and mergers were also included in micro-foundations research, in addition to macro-strategic phenomena in the previous period. The topics such as psychology and entrepreneurship were included within the scope of micro-phenomena discussed in the studies in the previous period between the years 2011-2020.

Resumen
This research sought to provide insight on those strategies and business activities associated with successful micro-retail entrepreneurs, specifically in arts-related firms where minimal research has been conducted. The relationship with gender was also investigated. A series of empirical analyses was conducted, including factor analysis, cluster analysis and correlations. Initially, four diverse groups of micro-retailers were identified from self-definitions of success. More successful micro-retailers were found to value both personal satisfaction and financial success as indicators of success. Each of the four groups of micro-retailers who perceived themselves to be more successful engaged in distinct business strategies and activities. Results drawn from this study reveal that those micro-entrepreneurs seeking greater success should develop a strong customer satisfaction orientation and offer differentiated products that are more unique and of higher quality and priced appropriate to quality. Additionally, one strategy found to be unique to successful craft micro-retailers is to educate consumers about crafts and/or craft artisans and the region's culture.
