In this PHD thesis, I tried to show that the process of building up colonial and post-colonial Algerian memories are, both, social and subjective constructions that develop thanks to the social group, the family and the individual. For this purpose, I have chosen to study the construction process of a colonial memory through the populations of the colonial Algeria and to explain how they were assigned a special place. Individuals have then entered categories that have marked out their lives and those of their descendants, causing effects on their social and psychic construction through denial, active falsification and silence. In this perspective, I wanted to find out what the most important and pregnant devices had been : that is to say the implementation of racial segregation by a system of laws and rules : Crémieux decree, native code and 1889 direct naturalization law, and then establishing of separated instruction with the creation of specific schools for natives. Then I tried to define the notion of memory, which is a polysemic notion, in a theoretical analysis relying on comprehensive and clinical sociology as well as on historic sociology, opting for a crossing methodology. Thus, thanks to public, private and family files and thanks to informal interviews and many ethnographic observations, I tried to understand how, through a family history (which is the topic of my investigation), from the end of the 19th century to nowadays, collective and family memories were made up and falsified. My goal was then to prove that men's memory was not men's history, but that among these questions, the question of identity arises and consequently all the current injunctions about remembrance and repentance. Memory resists, it resists polysemy and a non common definition. Probably because memory makes sense for the individual in their writing of the past and in their own appropriation of time and space

For both linguistic and ethnology, the main distinction between the oral and the writing is based on the way of memorizing and transmitting cultural events. The writing, view as externalisation of intern memory, would allow to "plan" the message and to memorize it verbatim. In this thesis, I attempt to study the relationship between type of memory and medium from Brittany oral literature. A workfield in Brittany and a transdisciplinary approach (sociolinguistic, ethnologic and psychologic) allowed showing that oral (i. E. Message elaboration and restitution) does not seem to necessary imply an exclusive reconstructive or semantic memory type. The memory seems to be linked to the context in which it forms and builds up and to the domain-object views as having a specific organisation, which implies a way of memorizing

Over the course of the XVIIth century indigenous societies in the Northern Andes went through considerable changes. Their surroundings had already transformed in an unprecedented manner alongside their way of life. As they were deprived of their land, removed from their original villages, and resettled into Spanish pueblos and parishes, they still had to undergo massive changes within their own traditions. The Toledan Reforms and the Council of Trent had a long-lasting resonance for the organization of the indigenous societies in the Cajamarca region. Both the Church and the Spanish authorities strove to abolish their past. Therefore, the traditional order of the Natives of Cajamarca and its region was weakened by the imposition of the Spanish and Catholic norms. The remodelling of the indigenous society manifested itself through the key monitoring of the Natives’ faithful obedience to Catholicism and to their subjection to the rules of marriage. As those norms were forced upon them, one may consider how it affected their social structures and beliefs. Under the circumstances, the Natives’ sense of kinship and identity, relationship to land possession inheritance rules, and ancestral knowledge had to adapt to and abide by the Spanish order.Besides, to survive and settle in the colonial society, they resorted to a measured way

This work proposes to implement a confrontation between real families and fictional familiesby interposing a screen in between them in order to understand how a fictional experienceinteracts with life experience. We have interviewed seven families from the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France. We have chosen three shows that are integral in familyrepresentation. They enjoy great popularity on the M6 TV group’s various channels andexhibit similar airing strategies: The Little House on the Prairie (NBC, 1974-1984), Malcomin the Middle (FOX, 2000-2006) and Desperate Housewives (ABC, 2004-2012). The ideathat we offer is that these three shows establish a permanent curative resource which is thebase of the individual’s self-construction. We may also go as far as to call it a reconstructionof oneself. Nostalgia seems to inspire action which leads to the construction of situations, setdesign, interior decoration, various practices and the creation of a family heritage. In otherwords: the experience of fiction serves as a constant reminder of the experience of life whichtriggers and inspires new experiences that families often pass down from generation togeneration. The shows in this corpus play a role in the creation of one’s family-relatedidentity and memories. An attachment towards fiction equates to an attachment to personallife. The network’s part in this process is substantial

Episodic memory is precociously altered in normal aging and neuro-degenerative diseases such as the senile dementia of Alzheimer type. Several studies show a straight relation between cognitive deficits and the disturbance of the cholinergic system and, more recently, of the serotoninergic system. The serotoninergic system modulates the cholinergic system, and this interaction could play a role in memory processes. The aim of this work was to assess the participation of cholinergic and serotoninergic systems and the interaction between these systems in the facilitation of episodic memory, by using a model of recognition memory in the rat. These experiences were conducted in young and old rats. We show that anticholinesterasic agents that module nicotinic receptors were more effective than simple anticholinesterasic, that the stimulation of 5-HT4 receptors was as effective as these compounds and that a treatment combining an anticholinesterasic and an agonist of 5-HT4 receptors, at doses ineffective alone, was as effective as the effect of these agents when administered separately. Our results also show that these compounds facilitate episodic memory by acting on acquisition and consolidation processes. We show that the direct and indirect joint stimulation of the cholinergic system facilitates episodic memory, allowing the use of lower doses of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, which induce, therapeutically, significant secondary effects. These results can lead to the research of agents acting on different neuronal targets, leading to a multi-therapy which vould improve cognitive functions in young subject and in normal or pathological aging

My doctoral thesis deals with memory and the transmission of knowledge in contemporary dance. To prepare my study, I concentrated on the case of the dance company Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch and on the German choreographer Pina Bausch’s the artistic legacy (1940-2009). Since 2009, a foundation named after the choreographer was created alongside the historic dance company which continues to represent the Bausch repertory worldwide. The foundation’s goal - which was founded by Pina Bausch’s son, Salomon Bausch - is to preserve and spread the knowledge of his mother’s artworks which were created all her life long: it owns the Bausch archives, the dance works rights and the scenography and the costumes created by Rolf Borzik. The methodological reflection which support my thesis is fully embodied. For the interviews, I adopted the methodology of oral history. My research is based on four principal domains which correspond to four different articulations of memory: the archives, the repertory, the creation and the exhibition. The perspective I chose to access my object of study and to observe how the choreographies and the history of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch are transmitted to new generations at the post-Bausch era is that of the Italian dancers who integrated the company between 1973 and 2009. For this purpose, I’ve realized a series of interviews with: Beatrice Libonati, Antonio Carallo, Aida Vainieri, Cristiana Morganti, Damiano Ottavio Bigi et Marigia Maggipinto. The witnessing of each one of the dancers allows to question Tanztheater Wuppertal’s history from an internal point of view and it gives information concerning the functioning of memory and transmission

The aim of this study consists in fully revealing the symbolic frames through which memory is conveyed in the prose works by Julio Llamazares - in particular "Luna de lobos", "La lluvia amarilla", "El rio del olvido" and "escenas de cine mudo" - and in showing how and to which extent those sharp images contribute to forming a symbolic intertwined pattern which gives to memories all their substance and echoing power. With this goal in mind, three symbolic guidelines have been drawn out and studied successively : the death symbolism, the water images as well as the recurrent allusion to arts and iconic techniques

Through a multidisciplinary approach that draws on literary analysis, on philosophy and anthropology, the author of this thesis reed the texts by Italo Calvino with the aim to open a debate on highly topical themes such as storytelling, identity construction, interpretation. The postmodern myth about the dissolution of identity and emancipatory power of digital technologies is revealed today as a false myth and issues that seemed buried reappear in all their urgency. By refusing the interpretation that makes Italo Calvino one of the apostles of postmodernism, the reading of his writings is the opportunity to articulate a critical reflection on contemporary reality. The first part of the work is a theoretical reflection that proposes a general design on the anthropological function of the narrative and the social role of literary knowledge. The second part relates this reflection to the work of Calvino and his vision of literature as a tool to put into question the ideas passively received and to build a critical attitude towards the world

This thesis discusses the construct of the collective Korean memory, with emphasis on its evolution from 1945 to the present day. We posit that the resultant contemporary memory hinges on the search for Korean unity dating from the foundation of Korea, as well as concern for opposition and division in memory. In the process of the construction of the collective memory, the memory of the Korean War (1950-1953) has played an important role: it has been used in South Korea to create a historical base bearing a political undercurrent, and promoting one facet of memory over against the other possible facets and risking their oblivion. The need for acknowledgement of this plural memory in South Korea led to the creation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in 2005 which aimed to heal the wounds of the war-memory. Here, we will consider how, today, South Korea is trying to liberate itself from the memory of the war by creating a post-war reconstruction. In the process, we will also reflect on the existing links between past and present, as well as the possibility of an eventual reconciliation of memory between the two Koreas

This thesis does a theorical anylsis and esthetical of the theme of the transmission of the memory in the Wajdi Mouawad’s tetralogy. This approach allows to identify the structure of Wajdi Mouawad’ spectacles and to see in what this structrure participates not only a new theatral pratic but also the theme figuration transmission of the memory. At the end of XIXth century, the traditional form of drama has undergone deep changes due especially to the introduction within it elements specific to the epic form. Today, we assist in Wadji Mouawad’ spectacles to the bursting of the form, to the references to art, myth and history related to the memory matter. Wadji Mouawad’s theatre several temporalities make coexist, combines the intimate and the universal in epic tales of powerful narrative telling the wiew of the contemporary of the author. The imbrication of tales in Wadji Mouawad’s dramatical work drives to find a factual thruth about oneself and others. But this factual truth doesn’t really seem to appease the characters’ thirst. Even the research of beauty, means the artistical creation, is related on others questionnings of ethic order
Gironde, Michel. "Carlos Fuentes entre hispanité et américanité". Thesis, Paris 3, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011PA030012.
Carlos Fuentes, author of a rich and wide-ranging work of fiction and intellectual reflection, is one of the greatest living writers of the Latin American literature. Through his work Fuentes appears to be quite multiple: cosmopolitan, cultural intermediary, intellectual essayist and fiction novelist. But what do really bind together those different functions? Which true face beneath those various “masks” does Fuentes exhibit as a writer? What type of writing does he elaborate? In order to answer those questions, we study and look at the very heart of Fuentes’s thinking and creation, that is to say the matter of centrality. Fuentes wonders indeed what role do the Hispanic-American cultures play in the world, traditionally considered as secondary, not to say out sided, both by the Occident and the United States. Our research reveals that the greatest achievement of Fuentes is to have located the Hispanic-American and the Mexican culture, his culture, in the centre of the world, respectively in his work as an essayist and as a fiction novelist. How does he proceed? The key is the interculturality: first considering the Spanish culture as a cultural inheritance for the Hispanic-American culture, then pointing at the interrelation of the Mexican culture and the world cultures. Within an interpretative critic, as we sought to show the intention of centrality in the work of Fuentes, we have carried out a comparative method that analyses the dialogue between “foreign” cultural elements and Hispanic American ones. We have requested the historiography, the history of mentalities, the anthropology and the philosophy in order to do so. Hence, we have demonstrated that while putting the centrality in the heart of his intention, Fuentes succeeded in inventing a poetic of interculturality for his work, both within his fiction and essays
Benoit, Alice. "Influence des informations vestibulaires sur la transmission glutamatergique et cholinergique hippocampo et striato-dépendante chez le rat". Caen, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014CAEN3149.
We have tested the hypothesis that vestibular information are required in hippocampus related spatial memory were at least supported by NMDA and muscarinic receptors supporting long term potentiation. We challenged to apply on ex-vivo brain tissue flow cytometry to the study of specific receptors on selective phenotype neurons. Flow cytometry data have been validated by quantitative radiography, both reporting an increase of hippocampal nmdar, predominantly within the CA1 and the dentate gyrus at D7 and D30 after vestibular loss while the M1r were also differentially modulated. Our findings demonstrated that glutamatergic and cholinergic neurotransmission are involved in hippocampus related vestibular information integration. Glutamatergic neurotransmission has been shown to be unbalanced by vestibular loss through a hippocampo-striato nmdar ratio that might reflect a switch to a striato-dependant procedural memory. Flow cytometry applied in adult brain tissue offers perspectives on biochemical modulation studies of numerous neurophysiological and pathological processes and on brain cell proliferation analysis in rodent and potential all mamalians. This manuscript also contains an assessment of a clinical program of research in addictology, on which me largely worked

Protagonists of the French-Algerian History, as well as their descendants, which occupied antagonistic positions during the independence war, cohabit in France nowadays. They are commonly called « Algerians », « Harkis » and « Black Feet people ». This thesis presents a cross-study of memorial construction processes after the Algerian Independence War within these three socio-historical groupes. Family history narratives have been confronted to History written by historians. The corpus is composed of persons born during the colonial period, having experienced the war and the migrations towards France, as well as their children and grandchildren. We examine the mechanisms of transmiting memories and their re-appropriation by individuals belonging to these three generations. We take into account families relationships and their transnational dimension. By crossing these memories, the relevance of the socio-historical categories is questioned, checking whether they reflect a memorial construction or a sense of belonging. These memories, often in opposition to each other, take part of a common national narrative into which people don’t completely identify themselves. We are also interested in the representations of oneself and otherness as an outcome of French-Algerian history and in their consequences on current social cohesion

This study’s main goal is to understand the functions endorsed by the past in the making of Aegean societies between the 12th and 7th centuries B.C. This pivotal period, witnessing socio-political and religious changes, is also the time in which the palatial system collapses and the City-State rises. The concept of memory constitutes the core of our approach. It is an essential component in the identity construction, shaped by the landscape in which men live and evolve. These three concepts need to be treated holistically. This study focuses on the conservation of antiquities, palimpsests of the past, understudied to date. Our first concern was to establish a database of occurrences in burial, domestic, communal and ritual fields. This database constituting the working basis used to conduct typological, geographical and contextual analyses, therefore allowing to integrate the issue of ancient memory in a historical perspective
Le, Grandic Marie. "Histoires de familles et de transmissions : une sociologie des pratiques festives". Thesis, Sorbonne Paris Cité, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016USPCA158.
This thesis looks at the social and anthropological functions of family celebrations, and focuses in particular on transmission. The study of these festive gatherings contributes to an exploration of the complexity of social ties. It shows that these spaces are ambivalent, as they both integrate and exclude from festivities. The material and immaterial elements that can be passed down are introduced in all their variety. Festive practices socialise while also being a social product themselves, and create learning opportunities through processes of inculcation and impregnation. The educational relationship seems heightened by the particular atmosphere of these celebrations, which bring people physically closer and allows the relaxing of rules and habits. Through this proximity, participants become more attentive to each other, and more inclined to reciprocity in their relationships. Around the table, relatives negotiate the family memory by sharing their experiences and through the narration of old memories, especially past or future celebrations. Between reserve and elation, these groups thus create a sense of community that is significant both for the group’s evolution and for the individual, and his or her attitude towards others. Along the way, the different phases of festivities create space for encounters and dialogue, which allow individuals to tell their story and process their plural identity. From a methodological perspective, this qualitative analysis of festive practices within the framework of the family draws on an ethnographic approach, and combines participant observation with the gathering of multiple voices. Through her own involvement, the writer questions the proximity between the researcher and the field studied

The transported convicts, swmped by the horror of which they were witnesses, anticipate that they should speak, to say what they saw or underwent. But to speak is very often over theur forces. The survivor feels a so strong turnover that he spreads from it inevitably his children; The domestic unspoken weighs then of all its weight, what is not without consequence on the domestic dynamics : installation of the silence, fear to communicate and to exchange, fear to face the other one. As long as in the families, the unspoken was not able to be clarified with every member, aftereffects are passed on then from similar to children and tracks remain during several generations. Is it possible to go out of the rehearsal of the aftereffects of extreme situations, by letting the evil say itself in the following generations ? This tragic and crucial problem is treated frontally in a problematic of existential search-forming which places transmission between generations between information, autotraining and coforming. The used methodology is that of the interactive, dialogical model of the story of life. This model is used at the same moment in a implied and distanced way, within the family of the autor, crossing word and listening of three generations. Formative/transformative effects of the story of life for the transported convict are finely analyzed. Second generation is discpovered as thet of the silence and the third as that of the differentiation of the transmission. It's as if the filter of the years and of ages allowed a finer metabolisation of the expression. Besides these knowledge by the subtle pragmatics of commitment and distance which operate these crossed stories of lives, this research contributes to develop an original methodology of the story of life as formative art of the existence

This work searches for the traces of the presence of exiles and refugees from the Spanish Civil War in the Limousin Region so as to question the relationship between memories and places, the remains and representations of the past in the present. First, the historical context, from the Spanish Civil War to the Second World War in Limousin, is considered, highlighting the unknown role of the Spanish exiles. This historical perspective is complemented by a theoretical framework in line with a multidisciplinary and methodological presentation of the study based on a corpus that includes 27 testimonies as well as on the participant observation within the “Association of the Ateneo Republicano of Limousin”. Secondly, the memories of the Spanish exile are analysed through three historical space-times: their reception in 1939, the Resistance and the 1944 massacres of the SS Das Reich division in Tulle and Oradour-sur-Glane. So as to understand the impact of the Spanish political refugees on the territory and the families, the last part of this work is focused on the identities of the exile. The geographical imaginary, the political culture and the affect are the three dimensions through which the individual and collective stories of the exiles’ offspring are analysed. The various observations made throughout the thesis are used to fuel an imaginary, dynamic and infinite map of the memories, imaginaries and affiliations regarding the past in the present of the investigation

This research work starts from the description of contemporary artistic events, reexposingor replaying ephemeral mankind's past achievements, in order to analyse the modalitiesof their transmission. In a first moment, it is intended to show that the ephemeral carries out atime-based reduction that puts in crisis a conception of the work of art that the tradition of thevisual arts has founded on object and trace conservation. However, when ephemeral worksreach us a posteriori, in the frame of the vestige or archive material, the question is to know iftheir recognition by the institution does not coincide with the inexorable loss of their speech. In its second moment, this work seeks to highlight a key modality for transmission thatephemeral works have contributed to graft onto established practices : a type of theatricalpresence the obvious signs of which being the requalification of the museum as a stage and ofthe curator as a set designer and stage manager. At a deeper level, this modality reveals a newethos arising out of the fragile relationship between the work and spectators having becomewitnesses. For, the destiny of ephemeral works is based on the conversion of an unforgettableemotion into a duty of transmission. It is with the updating of this operation that this doctoralwork is ultimately devoted to, to show how the memorable becoming always engages a sense of thehuman community

In spite of their old presence on the French territory, the Jews, among the various populations assembled in the historical construction of the French nation, do not seem, for a long time, to be recognized as a component of the national group. This research intends to examine the discrepancy between national memory and history, trough what school, an essential part in a device of transmission, retained of the Jews in the history which is taught since more than a centruy, and which is now preserved in textbooks. The latter, indeed, without being designed to this use, testify to the terms in which a society works out its historical past and wishes to transmit it to the next generations, in a form in which the concern for civic education and the will to diffuse knowledge are mixed. From the beginning of the Third republic to our times, textbooks allow to observe which kind of representation of the Jews French historical memory, modelled by a strongly unitary design, worked out; how and according to which mechanisms these images continue, fade or change. Jews of the French history then seem tightly linked with the very idea of nation

The pedagogical transmission of the nazi past in Germany is analysed in four schools in Hamburg and Leipzig. Formes of reappropriation and uses of the past by two generations of teachers - the "1968 generation" and the "GDR generation - and by their students are analysed. The thesis is based on 137 interviews and more than two years of classroom observation of history lessons. Significations and functions of the nazi past vary according to spaces, moments and men (classrooms, schoolyard, peer groups, home). But social frameworks also influence and/or direct uses of the past : the socialisation of teachers and students, generational belonging, gender and group dynamics, social class, political engagement, east-west oppositions. This research analyses situations and dispositions in order to try and understand multiple uses of the past. The research within schools and that within families allows to think the twofold influence of these social institutions on the adolescents

This thesis aims at studying the role explicitly assigned to the reader by contemporary authors of recent American writings dealing with the Holocaust’s aftereffects. These post-memory narratives which all bear physically the family trauma inherited by the authors require an active participation from the reader who is placed in a similar position as the one the authors once found themselves in, forced to use his imagination, question the unknown and embark on a quest for facts that may lead him to unexpected questionings. The “bridging generation” is the last direct link that exists between Holocaust survivors and contemporary readers and third-generation writers are aware of their responsibility as memory passers

For at least the last fifteen years, the Tutsi genocide which happened in Rwanda triggered a wide array of literary and cinematographic works, ranging from the francophone African Sub-Saharan writers who took part in the initiative “Rwanda: writing out of the duty of remembrance” to the Haitian director Raoul Peck and numerous authors from Belgium and Quebec. All these works construct, transmit and also endlessly challenge the memory of the genocide. Indeed, the genocide in Rwanda being often considered as the first “TV live” genocide, the media-staged memory of the 1994 events comes before the literary work and has greatly impacted the collective framing of its – often biased and partial – depiction. Subsequently it matters to question, from an ethical and aesthetical point of view, the dynamics of memory construction and transmission which are at stake between literature and images from the media. More importantly, it matters to define a contemporary literary theory of transmission that particularly addresses the poetics of literary transmission at the age of the media ineluctability: the case of the Tutsi genocide in Rwanda will help articulate this theory. The latter relies on two major concepts: the mediation and the passation of memory from ethical, aesthetic and stylistic perspectives. By building a bridge crossing space and time, beyond the frontier between authorship and readership, the other and I, the visible and the invisible, consciousness and unconsciousness, by becoming a passeur, the mediator and scriptwriter brings his contribution to the project of transmission and associates literature with a mission of its own in the throes of current issues

Through an action research which has involved fifteen classes from the urban district of Vesoul, thispaper aims at questioning the link between remembering and transmitting our intangible culturalheritage, reflecting on the stakes surrounding a memorial choir project, and records what aneducation on such topics can be like today. The year 2014 marked the hundred-year anniversary of the beginning of WWI and theseventy-year anniversary of the WW2 Liberation. In this context, the Direction des Servicesdépartementaux de l’Éducation nationale de la Haute-Saône, along with other contributors of thearea, initiated the project entitled « The Voices of Memory ». Under the instruction of musicprofessionals, over three hundred children practiced historical, traditional and contemporary songs about war and peace, all year long. The project concluded with a performance in a subsidised theatre for an audience including families and officials. This research has aimed at gathering as many viewpoints as possible through itsquestionnaires, interviews and observations. The teachers, one Education Inspector, the families and the pupils all talk of what took place at school. The children are viewed as active participants in the project they are made to take part in. A specific methodology was developed so as to record, listen to and value their words. The joys and hardhips of the learning experience of all involved have been carefully highlighted and decyphered, with careful emphasis on the emotions triggered by the memorial itself, viewed as a rite in honour of the French Republic

During the 1990s, in the French and Latin American spheres, new narratives began to emerge seeking to highlight the historical trauma of the African slave trade and of slavery in general. These re-evaluations of the past have uncovered both the issues and the ratios of power upheld in the institution of « national narratives » in these spaces and in the contemporary fiction endeavouring to uncover the voices of those left out of history and of their descendants. Among these works, we note that a number of themes and fictional techniques are shared by writers from both the French Caribbean and from continental Latin America. Using a comparative and interdisciplinary approach, we analyze six novels by Caribbean and Latin American women writers, which give visibility to the female slave’s experience. By investigating the dynamics binding history and fiction in these texts, and by questioning the ways literature helps to redefine history as herstory, our work suggests that a trans linguistic and transnational poetical memory of slavery, led by women, may be emerging, while demonstrating the possibilities of linking texts with fieldwork

Using TCP on asymmetric links may lead to unexpected and significant performance drops, severely degrading user experience. Those performance drops can come in various forms, among which a huge latency at the beginning of a connection, under-utilization of link capacities, or even excessive delays for the whole connection. In order to prevent those effects to happen, various approaches exist, either end-to-end through changes in the TCP/IP stack, or in the network core with a collection of scheduling algorithms. The first goal of this thesis is to explore if and how an end-to-end policy (i.e where CPU and memory resources are the most abundant) can achieve similar results as buffering policies in the core of the network. Secondly, we provide an in-depth analysis of the root cause of the performance drops, and evaluate existing algorithms. Finally, new solutions, both end-to-end and in the core of the network, are brought and tested in real life networks

This thesis aims to explore the heritage-making processes in community-based participatory work forming social memory in Brazil’s guarani communities and France. Inspired by the intangible heritage paradigm, experts and institutions increasingly act in close partnership with the social actor in conducting cultural heritage inventories for formalizing the protection, promotion and revitalization of traditional practices through knowledge production. The so-called holders of memory then become “indigenous researchers” in audiovisual documentation processes that orchestrate such inventories. Drawing on interviews, document and discourse analysis, this thesis seeks to shed light on the technical, epistemological, and symbolic shift at play in the construction of memory in such a partnership framework. This work interrogates the documentary gesture posed by the partnering social actor and the future mediatic status it for the heritage-in-making object hereby documented. In this perspective, the thesis engages with the question of traditional knowledge circulation, fixation, and transmission within a given social group, in the specific time and space-frame of the heritage inventory projects. This work considers theoretical issues at stake within the intangible paradigm, revealing the heritage paradox that exist between the knowledge stabilization effort and the living, and the metamorphic essence of cultural practices. This aporia is examined herein through the lens of the documentation projects conducted, in an attempt to identify their stance and strategies towards it. By deciphering the operational framework of the partnering video inventories, his thesis reveals existing social strategies used to discard ontological resistance of culture to becoming heritage : audiovisual documentation of personal testimonies here appears as a tool to record heritage in a flexible, non-binding media sustaining the ongoing cycle of meaning being susceptible to change and reinterpretation. In the videos, heritage is not dissected and precisely described as one could expect. Rather, it is discussed through non-descriptive content, with open questions and pointers only alluding and constantly challenging its meaning. By eluding content stabilization, knowledge production relies on a complex system of change and continuity, allowing only frames of meaning to be passed on, within which each participant can recreate meaning for himself. The thesis also highlights the reflexive and communicational competence building process associated with the social actor participating in the project, showing how such experiences follow a path of heritage appropriation, culminating in a renewed desire to cultivate one’s heritage. Third, the thesis attempts to theorize the heritage-making model studied here to elucidate the interplay of heritage and memory in the intangible paradigm. Memory is here seen as an unfolding experience, a work of engagement and cultural recreation mobilized by the heritage-making process to activate a dynamic knowledge transmission pattern within the very life of its projects

The psychic trauma of war confronts the subject with « the real of death » (Lebigot, 2005). It acts as a psychic breaking, for which no representation is available, condemning the affect to wander aimlessly, if not to its glaciation. War traumatism constitute its apogee. At this level, we observe that, to escape the threat of war trauma, many people find by the way of the exodus the hope of a better life in a more secure haven. But if exile appears as an ultimate outcome of protection, its trial doesn’t spare to subject the pain of the « break with origins », associated to a « betrayal » (Stitou 1997, 2006). The exile in post-war would be the propitious ground for lack of symbolization and of transmission between generations, creating a break in filiation (Tourn, 1997). This research is about children of war exiles, born in exile, who feel vicariously the pain without name of their parents. This study concerns the psychopathological effects of family lived in post-war exile in order to analyze the consequences of the « impediment to think » (Cherki, 2008) on the lack of subjectivation of those who are the descendants. Indeed, if the child deprived of the past can’t succeed in thinking himself (Aulagnier, 1989), how can he regain a capacity of subjectivation ? We base our research on History field of Algerian war (1954-1962) and of exodus in France during the sixties. By the sensitive testimony of our participants born in exile during and after war, born into French repatriates and Algerian migrants communities, we will analyze specific and shared factor(s) which involved in hindering the transmission of family history leading to exile, and their impact on the singular life path and psychic construction. We'll see that, if the experience of parents exile as wrench to his native land and as loss of love objects, can harm ways of origins transmission, it can also provide the foundation of subjectivation process for descendants. We will show how the descendants manage to carry out this symbolization opus in exile and by exile to escape the grip of trauma in legacy, which they are the custodians, in order to become the agents of transmission themselves

While the witnesses of the events which have shaped the twentieth century have been disappearing, the contemporary memory’s relations pretend speaking against past violence’s forgetfulness. Although, they aim neither at replacing the missing ones’ relations, nor simply at handing down atrocities’ memory committed during the wars and in concentration camps: the transmission of past experience’s transmissibility is the real stake. These literary statements, written a long time after the happenings, by survivors (M.Rigoni Stern, J.Semprun, I.Kertész) or by second generation’s witnesses (A.Tabucchi), compel statement’s style to rethink its form and its ambitions. The rejection of violence, judged inhuman, appearing tightly bounded to the obligation of remembrance, they question the ownership modalities of this recent past legacy, and confront the impossible denial of violence in human. Also, by revealing the frame imposed to the representation of past, the contemporary testimonials reappraise and question the mystery of the edge between humanity and inhumanity. Memory work therefore proves to be inseparable from the quest for an everlasting base to found the notion of human. Choosing fiction to testimony grants a chance to reach a definition of humanity’s specificity through representation of a past experience. Enabling self-appropriation of the legacy, it allows consideration of the contradictory nature of man. As ethics, it expresses the will in human to shape his being: man remaining relentlessly chasing for himself

What kind of knowledge (re )produce or undo « ethnie » conflicts? To explore this question, thisthesis invests three fields of research: identical processes; conflict; education/learing, in particularsocial construction and informai transmission of history narratives. It is interested in the said periodof« Events» in Kanaky-New-Caledonia. The analysis is based on several months offieldwork(mainly Nouméa, Northeast and Lifou). It covers about twenty semi-directive research interviews, realized with people living for the most part in tribe, having been born between 1939 and 2005.andhaving experimented this period of diverse ways. It attempts to link the real-life experience of theEvents, their transmission and the social construction of representations about « common fate ».From the theoretical point ofview, it goes away from a culturalist reading of the conflict, promotinga pragmatic analysis

The work detailed in this thesis represents an experimental contribution to the development of a new magnetic random access memory (MRAM) in which the main element is a magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ). Interfaces play a crucial role in determining the transport properties and magnetic coupling in these systems, which consist of layers having thicknesses on the order of nanometers. As such, investigation at the nanometer or even atomic scale is rnandatory. This is achieved here using spatially resolved electron energy loss spectroscopy (BELS), the dominant technique in this study. The purpose of the investigation on ALTIS Semiconductor functional industrial systems is to evaluate their stability over time as well as during the steps involved in their production. This work highlights effects restricting their industrial production and suggests solutions to counteract them. In parallel, in order to better understand the importance of the MTJ interfaces themselves, a monocrystalline Co₀,₆Fe₀,₄ / MgO / Co₀,₆Fe₀,₄ (001) system, deposited using molecular beam epitaxy, was also investigated. The Co₀,₆Fe₀,₄ alloy exhibits a half-metallic character with regards to the symmetries of the Bloch states which lead to strong spin polarization. The very high quality of the crystalline structure at the interfaces offers the possibility to consider the sample as an ideal system, allowing a detailed analysis of the fine structure of the transition metal L-edges and the oxygen K-edge. These experimental spectra can thus be simulated using multiple scattering calculations in order to test the influence of the local environment and to characterize the p-d hybridization effects at the interfaces

Precession electron diffraction (PED) is a recent technique used to minimize acquired diffractionpatterns dynamic effects. The primary intention of this PhD work is to improve PED (PrecessionElectron Diffraction) data analysis and treatment methodologies in order to measure the strain at thenanoscale. The strain measurement is intended to reach a 10-3 strain precision as well as usualmicroscopy techniques like high-resolution imaging. To this end, measurements were made with aJEOL 2010A with a Digistar Nanomegas precession module. The approach developed has been used and tested by measuring the strain in a Si/SiGe multilayeredreference sample with a known Ge Content. Strain measurements reached 1x10-4 sensitivity withexcellent finite element strain simulation agreement. This process has been also applied to measure thestrain in microelectronic InGaAs Quantum Well and an "Ω-gate" experimental transistor devices. The second approach developed has been made to provide a robust means of studying electrontransparent nanomaterial polycrystallinity with precession. Examples of applications of this analysismethod are shown on different devices

This PhD analyses videos directed, produced and uploaded on Internet by the main actors of 2003 Iraq War. It mixes historical and aesthetical problematic, and questions thematic as: intentionality, writing configuration, temporality and reception of these visual documents. Since it’s distributed on the Internet, we also need to observe migration, virality and sustainability phenomenon. We proposed the storytelling of soldiers’ war experience through their own film productions. We also observed how external viewers understood these footages. This PhD also carried the project of setting and securing a writing process that is always moving due to the freedom that the Internet gives. Accordingly, It was important to give back to this transformable data its historical substance. But we also needed to analyze it though cinematographic tools, since the authors of the films also used the cinematographic language. We observed their composition and directing choices, the storytelling they proposed, the editing choices, and also the cultural and artistic inspirations that may have influenced their work. Eventually, these footages, released online, finally reached movie industry, and great directors worked on this material – for example Brian de Palma or Ang Lee

The term Tamurt in the Berber (Amazigh) culture is endowed with many acceptances : it habitually designates a set of people possessing the same identity, a region or territory structured by the same language, and the same origin ; it is also related to the land, landscape or space and to what is present in the same entity : the values, traditions, or systems of organization. The Kabyl proverbs illustrate this polysemy in a good way and they still at this time and age have their entire place in the every day life of the inhabitants of Tifrit Nait Oumalek village situated in the Akfadou Mount near Tizi-Ouzou . The monography that we have realised supported by a survey that associates in situ observations, semi-directive interviews, and questionnaires suggests to clarify, through the analysis of the processes of transmission and identification, the relations with tradition and modernity. The rereading of the Mohandien poetry and that of the more contemporary writings of Mouloud Feraoun, Mouloud Mammeri, or Ait Menguellet enriches the discussion and permits to better apprehend the question of orality, symbolism, and intergeneration dynamics

Memories, traditions and Intergenerational transmissions are dealt with in this research through a case study: The Moussem of candles of Salé. By giving voice to the people concerned through interviews and experience story. The candle procession is a slaoui intangible heritage that not only presents an individual memory of each member of the Hassouni and Bellakbir families, but also a collective memory of each Siaoui and even of each Moroccan accustomed to come to witness the candle procession. The results of this research are divided into three chapters, the first being reserved for the men of the Hassouni and Bellakbir families, the second for the women Hassouni family only. And the third part is reserved to the artisans and the professional of the intangible cultural heritage. Transmission and traditions are definded by each member of the family share the same aspirations, knowledge and beliefs while having a collective conscience. This thesis shows the advantage of carrying out a case study on the Moussem of candles. We have analyzed this study in a plural way in order to show that this Moussem is not just a party but a collective history and a knowledge deserving to be preserved and perpetuated to the following generations
