Texto completoThe use of low-carbon concrete has now become a necessity leading to changes inthe standards governing concrete (EN 206) and cement (EN 197). The use of so-called “lowcarbon” cements is therefore made possible(CEM II/C-M and CEM VI). The work presented focuses on the evolution of the microstructure, mechanical strength and durability of low-carboncement-based concretes, in particular clinkerslag-limestone ternary mixtures (K-S-LL). An indicator is proposed to characterize the carbon footprint of concrete and its durability with respect to corrosion induced by carbonation. The results of this work demonstrate the important role of the reactive additions inreducing the carbon cost of the binders while maintaining good mechanical properties. Amodel allowing the prediction of the service life of the coating as a function of the properties of the cement materials is adapted to our problem.Concretes based on ternary cements have advantageous CO2/ddv ratios associated with a high corrosion propagation time compared with concretes based on portland cement. However, consideration of the carbonation effect on electrical resistivity influences the observed trends

Texto completoThe study presented in this thesis has been carried out within a collaboration between Politehnica University Timisoara (UPT) from Romania and Université de Lyon/École Nationale des Travaux Publics de l'État (ENTPE), laboratory LTDS from France. The objectives are, i) the characterization of the thermomechanical performances of binder blends and bituminous mixtures produced with Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) and rejuvenator and, ii) the investigation of the potential environmental impact related to the production of a mixture containing different amounts of RAP material and rejuvenator. Therefore, comprehensive experimental investigations were performed on binders and mixtures. All tests on binders and mixtures were performed in the Road Laboratory from UPT, together with the environmental impact assessment. On the other hand, the analyses, estimations and predictions of most parameters/characteristics of binders and mixtures were performed at ENTPE. The study on binders focused on the properties of different binder blends produced by mixing one type of fresh binder (a straight run 50/70 pen. grade), a RAP-extracted binder and a rejuvenator of vegetal origin. The study on mixtures focused on the investigation on 13 bituminous mixtures

Texto completoThis work was dedicated to the thermal treatment of heat exchanger tubes made of black ceramics, and to the study of their characterisation. Controlled amount of sulphur is added to coal tar pitch in order to increase the mechanical properties of the tubes. This element strongly modifies the binder evolution during the thermal treatment (drop of the weight lost). Moreover, for a sulphur weight fraction higher than 10%, the graphitation of the semi-coke is strongly limited by sulphur induced crosslinking of mesogen molecules. The investigation of the thermal treatment of the tubes has shown the major role of the final temperature on the properties, while no influence of the heating rate could be observed. The dependence of the orientation of the filler grains on the properties of the tube was evidenced

Texto completoThis study deals with the batch wet granulation of pharmaceutical products with binder solution in high shear mixer. This work aims to develop a predictivemethodology and investigation tolls to choose the thermodynamic parameters and the process variables in order to ensure the quality of granules properties produced. Hence, we studied the effect of process variables, products thermodynamics variables and solid solubility. The characterisation of the surface free energy and the wetting of the powder are performed using the contact angle. The molecular simulation is used to calculate the solubility or the cohesions parameters. It is found that the agglomeration depend on adimensional number Caw which characterises the ratio between the friction forces to the work of adhesion. For Caw lower than 1, the dominant forces in the granulation process are the capillary and/or interfacial forces. Also, increasing the work of adhesion enhances the growth kinetics. The viscous forces predominate when the Caw becomes higher than 1. 65, and the granule growth is controlled by the dissipation of the viscous forces. Moreover, the results of our study show that the solubility parameters and the surface free energy approaches can be used for the selection of a suitable binder in high shear mixer granulation
