Texto completoTANG, HUIJUAN. "The role of Solasonine and Solamargine on colon cancer cells: molecular and morphological analyses". Doctoral thesis, Università Politecnica delle Marche, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/11566/289579.
Texto completoPurpose of the study: To observe the effects of solasonine and solamargine, alkaloids extracted from Solanum nigrum, on the proliferation of colon cancer cells and explore the possible related signaling pathways. Methods: Three different colon adenocarcinoma cell lines HT-29, HCT116 and SW620, with increasing levels of invasiveness, were used. MTT was used to detect the effect of solasonine and solamargine on cell proliferation; Hoechst 33342 and pSIVA-IANBD / PI staining techniques were used to detect the presence of apoptosis; Western blotting was used to detect the expression of Caspase-3, Caspase-9, Bcl-2, IκB-α, p-IκB-α, p-NFκB P65 in the cytoplasm and NFκB P65 in the nucleus after treatment with solasonine and solamargine; finally, immunocytochemistry was used to observe the effects of the two molecules on NFκB P65 phosphorylation and nuclear translocation in HT-29 cells and HCT116 cells. Results: Both solasonine and solamargine were able, in vitro, to: 1) inhibit the proliferation of HT-29, HCT116 and SW620 cells in a dose-dependent manner; 2) induce apoptosis of HT-29, HCT116 and SW620 cells, with a positive correlation with increasing drug concentration; 3) decrease the expression of p-IκB-α, p-NFκB, increase the expression of IκB-α and modify the expression of Caspase-3, Caspase-9 and Bcl-2; 4) reduce NFκB P65 phosphorylation in HT-29 and HCT116 cells and inhibit NFκB P65 nucleus translocation in the same cells. Conclusions: Both tested molecules were capable, in vitro, to inhibit the proliferation and induce apoptosis of colon cancer cells in a dose-dependent manner and their effect is related to the NFκB pathway.

"Utilzzo dei parametri ecocardiografici tradizionali ed a Doppler tissutale nella valutazione della disfunzione atrio-ventricolare in cani affetti da malattia mitralica cronica". Doctoral thesis, Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna, 2013. http://amsdottorato.unibo.it/5705/1/Sgreccia_Giorgia_Tesi.pdf.
Texto completoThe aim of this study is to evaluate the atrioventricular function using brand new echocardiographic techniques, such as Tissue Doppler Imaging (TDI) in dogs affected by chronic mitral valve disease (MVD). The first part of the project is focused on the analysis of right ventricular function in dogs affected by left sided heart failure, in order to better understand if the dysfunction of one ventricle might interfere with the function of the contralateral one. The main results were: absence of significance sisto-diastolic right ventricular dysfunction in dogs with different stages of MVD; direct relationship between right ventricular TDI variables and left ventricular functional parameters; lastly, the presence of more severe left ventricular diastolic abnormalities in patients with different degrees of pulmonary hypertension. In particular, the TDI variable mitral annulus E/e’ ratio was directly correlated to pulmonary artery pressures and was a useful indicator in predicting presence of this condition. In the second study we used TDI to analyze global and regional function of the left atrium in normal dogs and in dogs with MVD and different degrees of left atrial dilation. The results showed that left atrial TDI is feasible and reproducible in dogs and we proposed some ranges of normality for this specie. We found a few differences in TDI left atrial variables between normal and diseased animals, however we identified some correlations between TDI parameters and the traditional echocardiographic left atrial functional variables (such as left atrial diameter, transmitral waves flow velocity). In conclusion we verified that new TDI based echocardiographic techniques are useful in the noninvasive evaluation of segmental cardiac function in normal and diseased dogs.

CEVESE, Rossella. ""SaHa:lalla!" Pratiche di salute e rappresentazioni sul corpo nell’esperienza di un gruppo di donne marocchine a Verona". Doctoral thesis, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/11562/343816.
Texto completoThe paper is based on a fieldwork with a group of moroccan women living in Verona. The aim of the work is to link the practices of management of familiar health with ideas and representations about body health and illness in a context of migration. The thesis is built up around four areas: ideas and representations about health and illness in Morocco and Italy; health and social networks in the context of migration; images and metaphors of the body; strategies of healing. The main topics are: variety of situations of Moroccan women in Italy and in Verona, reference groups and social networks on the field, popular medicine in Morocco, “folk illness”, embodiment of migration and experiences of illness, relationship with Italian doctors, use of herbs and food to manage familiar health, creation and circulation of authoritative knowledge along the local and transnational networks, seeking for healing and therapeutic itineraries. The aim of the work is to focus the changes that migration brings as regard to the use of traditional medicine and as regard to representation about body, health and illness.

Texto completoThe purpose of the research are the medicines and remedies (“secrets”) patented by Venetian Health authorities to 375 among physicians, apothecaries, grocers, practitioners etc. (except “charlatans”, already well explored) in sixteenth- to eighteenth-century Venice. In the first part we analyse the development of the regulatory framework from 1549 to 1798, dates of first and last licence for secrets. Development that highlights how the secrets manipulators are not exclusively charlatans, as most of the academic studies support, but they belong to various professional groups, defining them more and more minutely over the years. The manipulation of remedies and medicines is part of the care market, sharing a peculiar feature with the Venetian pharmacopoea: the lack of a binding pharmaceutical code, exciting a great deal of inventivness and above all a good tendency to chemical studies, usually avoided from the official pharmacopoeias. The central part of the research tries to reconstruct, to the extent permitted by sources, the socio-cultural background inducing the secrets manipulators to engage in naturalistic and chemical studies. We browse then a series of case studies along the XVI-XVIII centuries, concernig professionals and non professionals, inserting them in the local tradition of chemical, botanical and pharmaceutical tradition. The third part of the research is devoted to the last flowering of secrets, the late seventeenth-century one, when many features mature: the pursuit of therapeutical sweetness, together with a noninvasive therapeutical impact and the tendency to build large commercial networks. From the sixteenth century, among the manipulators of secrets, apothecaries are the most increasing group of professionals, facilitated by Health authorities that want to bring the care market back into the medicine shops. This is the twilight of the medicinal secrets: creativity of professionals and practitioners is shrinking day by day, while authorities are creating an increasingly widespread system of socio-cultural disciplining.
