Resumen
During the flood discharge in large-scale hydraulic engineering projects, intense flow-induced vibrations may occur in hydraulic gates, gate piers, spillway guide walls, etc. Furthermore, the vibration mechanism is complicated. For the spillway guide wall, existing studies on the vibration mechanism usually focus on the vibrations caused by flow excitations, without considering the influence of dam vibration. According to prototype tests, the vibrations of the spillway guide wall and the dam show synchronization. Thus, this paper presents a new vibration mechanism of associated-forced coupled vibration (AFCV) for the spillway guide wall to investigate the dynamic responses and reveal coupled vibrational properties and vibrational correlations. Different from conventional flow-induced vibration theory, this paper considers the spillway guide wall as a lightweight accessory structure connected to a large-scale primary structure. A corresponding simplified theoretical model for the AFCV system is established, with theoretical derivations given. Then, several vibrational signals measured in different structures in prototype tests are handled by the cross-wavelet transform (XWS) to reveal the vibrational correlation between the spillway guide wall and the dam. Afterwards, mutual analyses of numeral simulation, theoretical derivation, and prototype data are employed to clarify the vibration mechanism of a spillway guide wall. The proposed mechanism can give more reasonable and accurate results regarding the dynamic response and amplitude coefficient of the guide wall. Moreover, by changing the parameters in the theoretical model through practical measures, the proposed vibration mechanism can provide benefits to vibration control and structural design.

Resumen
Based on the fluctuation or vibration failure mechanism of structures under blast vibration, the relationship between the amplitude, frequency of blasting vibration and the stress, strain (deformation) of structures is studied. The assessment method of blasting vibration effects is determined. The results indicate that under the fluctuation failure mechanism, the peak stress and strain of structures are proportional to the peak particle vibration velocity. The peak particle velocity (PPV) can be used to evaluate blasting vibration effects, while under vibration failure mechanisms, PPV, the main frequency and the natural frequency of structures must be considered for blasting vibraton effect safety assessment. The peak particle vibration acceleration should not be a separate evaluation parameter for blasting vibraton effects.

Resumen
Screening of fine wet particles or near-aperture particles by traditional screen devices is often not quite effective for sieve plugging. Different from traditional rigid regular mesh sieves, a cantilevered vibrating sieve (CVS) with open screen holes, composed of cantilevered sieve rods, was proposed in this paper. The CVS proved to have a higher screen-penetrating probability relative to traditional sieves. By establishing a bending vibration model for the CVS, it can be found that additional vibrations may emerge during the screen body motion, and a smaller difference between the natural circular frequency and the vibration frequency will achieve a larger vibration of cantilevered sieve rod. On this basis, this investigation also analyzed anti-plugging mechanism of the CVS and systematically discussed the influence laws of the geometric parameters and vibration parameters of the sieve on screening efficiency by the discrete element method.

Resumen
This work studies a planar parallel mechanism installed on a fast-operating automatic machine. In particular, the mechanism design is optimized to mitigate experimentally-observed vibrations. The latter are a frequent issue in mechanisms operating at high speeds, since they may lead to low-quality products and, ultimately, to permanent damage to the goods that are processed. In order to identify the vibration cause, several possible factors are explored, such as resonance phenomena, elastic deformations of the components, and joint deformations under operation loads. Then, two design optimization are performed, which result in a significant improvement in the vibrational behaviour, with oscillations being strongly reduced in comparison to the initial design.

Resumen
Conventional mechanical vibration platform vibrates not only in the direction of back and forth but also in the direction of up and down. Vibrations in both directions are achieved by two mechanisms, respectively. Three-dimensional vibration cannot be realized. In this paper, the servo motor, the gear drive mechanism, and the parallel four-bar linkage mechanism are combined with the NC system. And a type of program-controlled three-dimensional vibration platform is designed. The platform can vibrate in three directions, such as the directions of up and down, left and right, back and forth. The parametric adjustment of amplitude and frequency in three directions can be realized. The vibration platform is suitable for high-speed and light-load three-dimensional vibration. Compared with the existing mechanical vibration platform, the designed vibration platform overcomes some deficiencies to realize three-dimensional vibration with variable frequency and amplitude.

Resumen
Vibrations in the aircraft assembly building will affect the precision of the robotic drilling system. A variable stiffness and damping semiactive vibration control mechanism with quasi-zero stiffness characteristics is developed. The quasi-zero stiffness of the mechanism is realized by the parallel connection of four vertically arranged bearing springs and two symmetrical horizontally arranged negative stiffness elements. Firstly, the quasi-zero stiffness parameters of the mechanism at the static equilibrium position are obtained through analysis. Secondly, the harmonic balance method is used to deal with the differential equations of motion. The effects of every parameter on the displacement transmissibility are analyzed, and the variable parameter control strategies are proposed. Finally, the system responses of the passive and semiactive vibration isolation mechanisms to the segmental variable frequency excitations are compared through virtual prototype experiments. The results show that the frequency range of vibration isolation is widened, and the stability of the vibration control system is effectively improved without resonance through the semiactive vibration control method. It is of innovative significance for ambient vibration control in robotic drilling systems.

Resumen
As a contact of vibrational rotary forging is highly nonlinear, the contact area and boundary between rotary toolhead and workpiece had more accurate calculation, made the contact boundary more tally with the actual situation. For a surface effect is of complexity for vibrational rotary forging, a vibrational rotary forging visco-elasticity plasticity model was built, and the visco-elasticity spatial matrix and the visco-plasticity spatial matrix were derived by the generalized Hooke's law in elasticity theory and the increase theory in mechanics of plasticity, then by the finite element founction of MATLAB for the surface effect analyzed during the vibrational rotary forging deformation, it is shown as blow: the surface effect should be appeared with high frequency vibration or low frequency vibration, but there are some conditions for surface effect produced during plastic process, and then the hypothesis that the friction vector is reversal of deformation load, and it is benefit to deformation process during the part of time in vibration period is validated.

Study of rheological properties of concrete mixtures based on modified cement systems in order to determine process parameters. Methodology. To study structural-mechanical properties of modified concrete mixtures of different consistency at their horizontal vibrating displacement an oscillatory viscometer was designed. Results. The optimization of the process of vibration displacement of concrete mixtures with the specification of parameters of vibration impacts taking into account structural-mechanical properties of the mixture is performed. It has been established that the viscosity of the modified cement system of the concrete mixture is a variable quantity, which depends on the parameters of the vibration impacts. Scientific novelty. The mechanism of interaction of the modified concrete mixture with the form and the table vibrator during its vibration compaction is determined. On the basis of this, a model of concrete laying process control is proposed, that allows to predict the ability to form a dense concrete structure. Practical significance. Disclosed physical nature of the process of vibrating displacement of modified concrete mixtures using the principles of physical-chemical mechanics of concrete allows reasonably choose the best options for vibration impacts.

Resumen
To reduce the multi-dimensional vibration which exist in some vibrating machines or equipments such as running ambulances, a parallel mechanism with 3-translation DOFs was presented and introduced into the ambulance stretcher, then a three-translation vibration reduction platform was developed. The kinematics and dynamics equations of the presented vibration reduction platform were deduced. And then the workspace, tuning principles and dynamics characteristics were studied. The simulations show that the presented parallel mechanism or vibration reduction platform is valid for reducing vibration and the system has different natural frequencies in case that the upper platform of the mechanism works on some specific positions, so it can be used to achieve tunable vibration control.

Resumen
Hybrid energy harvesting is a concept applied for improving the performance of the conventional stand-alone energy harvesters. The thesis presents the analytical formulations and characterization of a hybrid energy harvester that incorporates photovoltaic, piezoelectric, electromagnetic, and electrostatic mechanisms. The initial voltage required for electrostatic mechanism is obtained by the photovoltaic technique. Other mechanisms are embedded into a bimorph piezoelectric cantilever beam having a tip magnet and two sets of comb electrodes on two sides of its substructure. All the segments are interconnected by an electric circuit to generate combined output when subjected to vibration and solar illumination. Results for power output have been obtained at resonance frequency using an optimum load resistance. As the power transduced by each of the mechanisms is combined, more power is generated than those obtained by stand-alone mechanisms. The synergistic feature of this research is further promoted by adding fatigue analysis using finite element method.

Resumen
Master 's thesis deals with design of a drivetrain of six cylinder inline engine with cylinder deactivation for heavy agricultural vehicles. In this thesis were devised various possibilities of crankshaft balancing, the best design solution of counterweight was based on optimization in software Catia. Further, the crankshaft was analysed for force and momentum loading and torsional vibration, based on which, the torsional vibration damper was designed. There were considered several options for cylinder deactivation, which were analysed for finest run of engine and the best thermal distribution. Based on these criteria, the best option was to deactivate 2nd and 5th cylinder. The crankshaft was analysed for the fatigue failure by finite element method. The fatigue failure is the most dangerous case for the crankshaft, the resulting safety factor for this limit state is 3,05.

Huang, Ya. "Mechanism of nonlinear biodynamic response of the human body exposed to whole-body vibration". Thesis, University of Southampton, 2008. https://eprints.soton.ac.uk/64575/.

Texto completo
Resumen
When the human body is exposed to mechanical vibration, the resonance frequencies of the frequency response functions, such as apparent mass and transmissibility, decrease with increasing magnitude of excitation. For the past two decades, this biodynamic ‘nonlinearity’ has been reported with vertical and horizontal excitation of the body in a wide variety of static sitting and standing postures that require activity from muscles to maintain the stability of the body. There has been speculation, but no experimental evidence, as to the mechanism causing the non-linearity. A review of the literature suggested that either active muscular activity or passive thixotropy of soft tissues is the primary cause of the nonlinearity. The principal objective of this thesis is to identify, and provide experimental evidence of, the primary causal mechanism for the biodynamic nonlinearity. With 0.5 to 20 Hz broadband random vertical vibration at 0.25 and 2.0 ms-2 r.m.s., the first experiment investigated the effect of voluntary periodic upper-body movement and vibration magnitude on the apparent masses of 14 seated subjects. Some movements of the body, such as ‘back-abdomen bending’, significantly reduced the difference in resonance frequency at the two vibration magnitudes compared with the difference during upright static sitting. Without voluntary periodic movement, the median apparent mass resonance frequency was 5.47 Hz at the low vibration magnitude and 4.39 Hz at the high vibration magnitude. With voluntary periodic movement (e.g. back-abdomen bending), the resonance frequency was 4.69 Hz at the low vibration magnitude and 4.59 Hz at the high vibration magnitude. It was concluded that voluntary or involuntary muscular activity, or passive thixotropy of soft tissues, or both muscle activity and thixotropy, could explain the reduction in nonlinearity evident during voluntary periodic movement. The effect of shear history and vibration magnitude on the apparent mass was investigated using 12 subjects in a relaxed semi-supine posture assumed to involve less muscle activity than static sitting and standing. The semi-supine subjects were exposed to two types of vertical (in the x-axis of the semi-supine body) and longitudinal horizontal (z-axis) vibration: (i) continuous random vibration (0.25–20 Hz) at five magnitudes (0.125, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, and 1.0 ms-2 r.m.s.); (ii) intermittent random vibration (0.25–20 Hz) alternating between 1.0 and 0.25 ms-2 r.m.s. With continuous random vibration, the dominant primary resonance frequency in the median normalised apparent mass decreased from 10.35 to 7.32 Hz as the magnitude of vertical vibration increased from 0.125 to 1.0 ms-2 r.m.s., and from 3.66 to 2.44 Hz as the magnitude of horizontal vibration increased from 0.125 to 1.0 ms-2 r.m.s. With the intermittent vibration, the resonance frequency was higher at the higher magnitude (1.0 ms-2 r.m.s.) and lower at the lower magnitude (0.25 ms-2 r.m.s.) than during continuous vibration at the same magnitudes. The response was typical of thixotropy being the primary cause of the nonlinearity. Harmonic distortions in the dynamic force of semi-supine subjects exposed to sinusoidal excitation showed similar dependence on the frequency and magnitude of vibration as previously reported for seated subjects, again suggesting thixotropy as a primary cause of the nonlinearity. In a group of 12 subjects, the apparent mass and transmissibility to the sternum, upper abdomen, and lower abdomen were measured in three supine postures (relaxed semi-supine, lying flat, and constrained semi-supine) during vertical random vibration (0.25 to 20 Hz) at seven vibration magnitudes (nominally 0.0313, 0.0625, 0.125, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1.0 ms-2 r.m.s.). The motion transmission path that included more soft tissues exhibited a greater nonlinear response. The substantial nonlinearities found in transmissibilities to both the sternum and the abdomen of supine subjects, and previously reported for the transmissibilities of seated and standing subjects, imply that soft tissues at the excitation-subject interface contribute to the nonlinearity. It is concluded that the thixotropy of soft tissues, rather than voluntary or involuntary muscular activity, is the primary cause of the biodynamic nonlinearity seen with varying magnitudes of excitation.

Resumen
One means of designing reduced vibration mechanisms is to ensure that the mechanism’s natural frequency be sufficiently greater than the driving frequencies of the actuators. In this paper we consider the problem of determining a mechanism’s mass, inertial, and joint stiffness parameters so as to maximize the lowest natural frequency of the mechanism. We show that this leads to a convex programming problem, which is characterized by global optima that can be found with efficient interior point algorithms. Several case studies involving closed chain mechanisms and hydraulically actuated excavators demonstrate the viability of the design methodology.

Resumen
Blade vibration reduction is an important task in high performance turbomachinery. One of the ways for obtaining this result is to limit the vibration amplitude at the blade tip by leaving a small gap between the shrouds of adjacent blades. In the vibration modes of the blade row in which the relative displacement between adjacent blades exceeds the gap, contact occurs between the blade tips, the relative motion is restricted and energy is dissipated during the contact. This is called the snubbing mechanism. In this paper a simplified model of blade rows in which the snubbing mechanism can occur is set up and numerical integration in time domain furnishes the time histories of the vibrations of the blades. The level of vibration reduction in the different modes that could be excited by the fluid flow is then evaluated. Unlucky combinations of parameters in the system can effect also a magnification instead of a reduction of the vibration amplitudes. Experimental results on single blades are needed to tune the parameters of the system, and to validate the proposed model and the obtained results.

Resumen
This interdisciplinaray work combines expertise in engineering and entomology in Israel and the US, to develop an acoustic trap for mate-seeking female medflies. Medflies are among the world's most economically harmful pests, and monitoring and control efforts cost about $800 million each year in Israel and the US. Efficient traps are vitally important tools for medfly quarantine and pest management activities; they are needed for early detection, for predicting dispersal patterns and for estimating medfly abundance within infested regions. Early detection facilitates rapid response to invasions, in order to contain them. Prediction of dispersal patterns facilitates preemptive action, and estimates of the pests' abundance lead to quantification of medfly infestations and control efforts. Although olfactory attractants and traps exist for capturing male and mated female medflies, there are still no satisfactorily efficient means to attract and trap virgin and remating females (a significant and dangerous segment of the population). We proposed to explore the largely ignored mechanism of female attraction to male song that the flies use in courtship. The potential of such an approach is indicated by studies under this project. Our research involved the identification, isolation, and augmentation of the most attractive components of male medfly songs and the use of these components in the design and testing of traps incorporating acoustic lures. The project combined expertise in acoustic engineering and instrumentation, fruit fly behavior, and integrated pest management. The BARD support was provided for 1 year to enable proof-of-concept studies, aimed to determine: 1) whether mate-seeking female medflies are attracted to male songs; and 2) over what distance such attraction works. Male medfly calling song was recorded during courtship. Multiple acoustic components of male song were examined and tested for synergism with substrate vibrations produced by various surfaces, plates and loudspeakers, with natural and artificial sound playbacks. A speaker-funnel system was developed that focused the playback signal to reproduce as closely as possible the near-field spatial characteristics of the sounds produced by individual males. In initial studies, the system was tasted by observing the behavior of females while the speaker system played songs at various intensities. Through morning and early afternoon periods of peak sexual activity, virgin female medflies landed on a sheet of filter paper at the funnel outlet and stayed longer during broadcasting than during the silent part of the cycle. In later studies, females were captured on sticky paper at the funnel outlet. The mean capture rates were 67 and 44%, respectively, during sound emission and silent control periods. The findings confirmed that female trapping was improved if a male calling song was played. The second stage of the research focused on estimating the trapping range. Initial results indicated that the range possibly extended to 70 cm, but additional, verification tests remain to be conducted. Further studies are planned also to consider effects of combining acoustic and pheromonal cues.
