Resumen
This study aims to see how far media positioned women, especially in their news frames. The focus of this research will be more about seeing how are violence against women cases in the mass media framework, especially online media. The selection of online media in this research is because the access of information provided by online media is much wider and easier in comparison with other media, especially mainstream mass media like newspaper. The focus of this study is on violence against women which occurred on a high school student in Bengkulu that resulted on her die. The method used in this study is the framing method of Robert Entman, by looking at the articles on Detik.com and Tribunews.com in May 2016. The results of this study indicate that Detik.com put women as objects, while Tribunews.com a little more put women as subjects, though not yet fully in the entity as a woman.

Resumen
There are two main arguments advanced in this article. Firstly, regarding the image of women perpetuated lry mass media, and secondly why media is not showing gender sensitivity when developing women images. In general mass media portray women in one amongst these five images: women image as a frame, as a column, as an available 'bed', as a saucer and an image of friendship. These images are developed and became popular within a patriarchal culture because men define women as such, and women have no power to disagree. The author proposes that today's women readers must apply more critical view in reading and analyzing the content of mass media, especially with regard to women's images.

Resumen
Most people don't realize that recently mass media has been discrediting women. News about women by media displays them purely on physical appearance as though it had been an "image" for a woman. The most tragic fact is that the language used in mass media merely focuses on physical appearance. This fact is indicated by a huge "show" by mass media that only display women as a commodity. Indirectly, mass media have exploited women for their own interests; namely increase their ratings (for TV) and tiras (for printed press). Displaying women merely as an object can be regarded as a crime, but it happens both in the news and infotainment."Psikologi perempuan juga psikologi massa, hendaknya dipahami oleh para bapak yang kebanyakan menjadi penentu kebijakan. Bila rncsszr ada yang diperlakukan kurang adil, lebih-lebih itu mengenai perempuan, tanpa dimintapun bangkit perasaannya". Titie Said (Psikolog), 1999.

HARALDSSON, Amanda. "Media discrimination and women's political representation : experimental evidence of media effects on the supply-side". Doctoral thesis, European University Institute, 2022. http://hdl.handle.net/1814/74306.

Resumen
Defence date: 07 March 2022

Women continue to be underrepresented in politics, even in countries with relatively high gender equality such as within the borders of Europe. A major contributor to this underrepresentation is that women have lower political ambition than men, i.e., women are less interested in and willing to become political candidates. Moreover, the political domain remains highly masculinised, undervaluing the issues that disproportionately impact women and undervaluing feminine leadership traits. Both men and women in politics are part of perpetuating the stereotypical and limited image of what politics is and what politicians should do. Women’s descriptive (numeric), symbolic and substantive political representation are therefore harmed by supply-side factors. In this thesis, supply-side refers to those factors that impact the choices of potential political candidates and actual political candidates in ways that limit the quantity and quality of women’s political representation. This thesis tests the potential impact of media discrimination against women on the supply-side of women’s political representation. Media discrimination in political news includes underreporting on women, using stereotypical gender portrayals, disproportionately criticising female politicians and objectifying women. While the literature gives reason to expect both politically activating and deactivating effects of discrimination exposure on women, there are extremely few studies testing potential media effects on men and women’s political ambition. Likewise, there are extremely few studies testing whether gendered campaign environments impact the way future candidates choose to behave within the political domain. Using data from two experimental studies and content analyses, this thesis highlights both the resilience of women in the face of media discrimination, and simultaneously the way media discrimination hinders progress towards putting femininity on an equal footing with masculinity in the political domain.

Resumen
Egyptian women’s activists are widely regarded as pioneers in calling for women’s rights in the Arab world. However, the struggle for women’s rights in Egypt is a complex one that has led to many achievements, but has also involved numerous setbacks. The media has been central throughout this struggle and all of this has always taken place in a highly politicized environment, which involved changes in the state’s approach to women’s rights. Thus, this study investigates the interplay between women, media and politics in Egypt. It uses theories of authoritarianism that have been used to describe the nature of the incumbent Egyptian regime, as well as notions pertaining to the corporatist tactics it resorts to in order to analyze the manner in which the state deals with women’s activists and their access to the media. This involves a particular emphasis on the privately owned media which has flourished in Egypt in recent years. Also, because the Egyptian government is directly and actively involved in ‘women’s issues’, the study uses the notion of state feminism to analyze its efforts in this regard and how they relate to media treatment of women and their rights. In addition, the study draws on theories of post and neo colonialism to analyze how efforts in the area of women’s rights by both the government and activists relate to the international framework, which promotes a specific version of women’s rights. This is done by interviewing female members of political parties, NGOs and a governmental women’s organization, as well as using archival research to analyze the information available in the publications of these organizations. Other methods employed in this study are critical discourse analysis to analyze media treatment of women’s political empowerment, in addition to focus groups to investigate Egyptian female audiences’ reception of political drama. As a result, the study breaks new ground in theorizing the relationship between the state and women’s activists and thus explains the activists’ media access. It also develops the notion of state feminism and relates it to the media. Finally, the study reveals and theorizes how the privately owned media in Egypt is subtly controlled by the state.

Resumen
This study investigated the relationships between young women's attitudes and exposure to violence, objectification of women, and sex-role stereotypes. The research analyzed whether or not viewing sexual content or violence in music videos affected young women's current moods or changed attitudes about sexual beliefs. Music videos were selected from cable television networks and music Web sites. Sixty-six undergraduate women at a Midwest university were exposed to six music videos with violent, sexual, or neutral content. Pretests and post-tests were used to assess any change of mood or attitude after viewing music videos. Results showed no significant change in sexual beliefs for any of the three groups. The group viewing neutral videos demonstrated a significant change in mood prior to viewing the music videos between the groups. The data suggested the method of selection of participants, use of pretests and post-tests, effects of music, and desensitization to violence and sexual content may have played a role in the outcomes of the study.

Resumen
The article discusses the contents of the gender concept “woman” in French mass media by means of concept analyzing modern mass media texts. The concept is described with a detailed analysis of its core and periphery, with the help of construction of a taxonomic model in order to substantiate the following hypothesis: the content of the concept has changed by virtue of social development of French society. Nevertheless, the inference states the heterogeneity of the nucleus. The hypothesis has not been proven, since due to the main semantic content of the concept, it is still difficult to assert about the modification of its components.

Resumen
Objectives: We aimed to explore the association of a readily available biomarker of systemic inflammation, the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), with breast cancer survival. Methodology: We undertook a single-centered retrospective study of patients with stages I–III breast cancer from 1999 to 2013. Clinicopathological data were collected before receiving any type of treatment. Survival analysis was performed using Cox regression models and Kaplan–Meier curves. Results: The cutoff value for NLR was set at 4.0 (NLRhigh ≥ 4 and NLRlow < 4). Of 1,700 patients included in this study, 121 (7%) had NLRhigh. Median for NLRhigh was 5.0 (4.0–34) and 1.9 (0.18–3.99) for NLRlow. Patients with NLRhigh were associated with more stage III at diagnosis (55% vs. 36%, p <0.01). Kaplan–Meier curves with log-rank tests at 10 years revealed a significant shorter disease-free survival (DFS) (p=0.02) and worse overall survival (OS) (p<0.001) for women with NLRhigh compared to those with NLRlow. Multivariate analysis revealed that NLR greater than 4 was independently correlated with shorter OS (HR 2.09, 95%CI 1.02–4.2, p=0.04). Furthermore, a subgroup of obese women with NLRhigh (classified as body mass index ≥30 kg/m2 ) had the shortest DFS and the worst OS in the cohort (p<0.001). Conclusion: Pretreatment NLR greater than 4 was correlated with worse prognosis in breast cancer. Interestingly, a subgroup of obese patients with NLRhigh had the shortest survival, showing the state of chronic inflammation observed in obese women may influence immune system and the prognosis in breast cancer. Prospective studies are needed to define the best cutoff values and introduce this inflammatory biomarker in clinical use.

Resumen
Introduction: A substantial number of young women (YW) is affected by breast cancer (BC), an important cause of death in young age. The definition of a YW in a BC context varies in the literature. Considering specific characteristics, such as reproductive factors and hereditary risk, we defined ultra young women (UYW) as women aged 30 years or less. Despite the fact that specialized centers are increasingly providing assistance to UYW with BC, important aspects of the disease in this age remain controversial. Objective: Evaluate clinical and epidemiological characteristics of BC in UYW in the State of São Paulo. Methods: We conducted a multicentric, observational, retrospective study of consecutive BC in UYW patients in nine Services. Only patients with infiltrating BC aged 30 years or less were included. The following data were collected: age, body mass index, parity, hormonal contraception use, history of breast/ovarian cancer in the family, pathological tumor category and clinical staging. Frequency parameters were estimated. The research protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of all collaborative centers. An informed consent was waived. Results: The study population included 293 patients. Age varied between 19 and 30 years (mean 27.3; median 28). Considering body weight, we found that 37.1% of the patients were overweight or obese. 58.6% were current or past HC users. Nulliparity was referred in 44.4%. 246 cases reported family history of BC which was verified in first degree relatives in 37.9%, while 66 patients referred BC in any member of the family. Only 33 patients went through a multigene testing panel: pathogenic inherited variants were detected in 37.5%. Remarkably, locally advanced tumors were diagnosed in 57.1%. Tumor sizes at diagnosis were: T1-11.8%, T2-33.8%, T3-31.6% T4-19.9% and T4d-2.9%. Clinical axillary lymph nodes evaluation revealed: N0-35%, N1-42.8%, N2-18.7%, and N3-3.5%. Systemic metastases at diagnosis were observed in 29 cases, that were classified as stage IV “de novo” (9.8%). The metastases sites were multiple in 31% and the clinical staging in the diagnosis are later. Conclusion: An unfavorable picture was observed in UYW with BC. We found a high rate of advanced neoplasias, with adverse clinical prognostic factors. To change the present-day scenario, we need to educate the population, enhancing BC awareness and self-body attention since adolescence, besides stimulating the adoption of a healthy lifestyle.

Resumen
The article clarifies of gender identity stereotypes in modern media. The main gender stereotypes covered in modern mass media are analyzed and refuted. The model of gender relations in the media is reflected mainly in the stereotypical images of men and woman. The features of the use of gender concepts in modern periodicals for women and men were determined. The most frequently used derivatives of these macroconcepts were identified and analyzed in detail. It has been found that publications for women and men are full of various gender concepts that are used in different contexts. Ingeneral, theanalysisofthe concept-maximums and concept-minimum gender and their characteristics is carried out in the context of gender stereotypes that have been forme dand function in the society, system atizing the a ctual presentations. The study of the gender concept is relevant because it reveals new trends and features of modern gender images. Taking into account the special features of gender-labeled periodicals in general and the practical absence of comprehensive scientific studies of the gender concept in particular, there is a need to supplement Ukrainian science with this topic. Gender psychology, which is served by methods of various sciences, primarily sociological, pedagogical, linguistic, psychological, socio-psychological. Let us pay attention to linguistic and psycholinguistic methods in gender studies. Linguistic methods complement intelligence research tasks, associated with speech, word and text. Psycholinguistic methods used in gender psychology (semantic differential, semantic integral, semantic analysis of words and texts), aimed at studying speech messages, specific mechanisms of origin and perception, functions of speech activity in society, studying the relationship between speech messages and gender properties participants in the communication, to analyze the linguistic development in connection with the general development of the individual. Nowhere in gender practice there is the whole arsenal of psychological methods that allow you to explore psychological peculiarities of a person like observation, experiments, questionnaires, interviews, testing, modeling, etc. The methods of psychological self-diagnostics include: the gender aspect of the own socio-psychological portrait, a gender biography as a variant of the biographical method, aimed at the reconstruction of individual social experience. In the process of writing a gender autobiography, a person can understand the characteristics of his gender identity, as well as ways and means of their formation. Socio-psychological methods of studying gender include the study of socially constructed women’s and men’s roles, relationships and identities, sexual characteristics, psychological characteristics, etc. The use of gender indicators and gender approaches as a means of socio-psychological and sociological analysis broadens the subject boundaries of these disciplines and makes them the subject of study within these disciplines. And also, in the article a combination of concrete-historical, structural-typological, system-functional methods is implemented. Descriptive and comparative methods, method of typology, modeling are used. Also used is a method of content analysis for the study of gender content of modern gender-stamped journals. It was he who allowed quantitatively to identify and explore the features of the gender concept in the pages of periodicals for women and men. A combination of historical, structural-typological, system-functional methods is also implemented in the article. Descriptive and comparative methods, method of typology, modeling are used. A method of content analysis for the study of gender content of modern gender-labeled journals is also used. It allowed to identify and explore the features of the gender concept quantitatively in the periodicals for women and men. The conceptual perception and interpretation of the gender concept «woman», which is highlighted in the modern gender-labeled press in Ukraine, requires the elaboration of the polyfunctionality of gender interpretations, the comprehension of the metaphorical perception of this image and its role and purpose in society. A gendered approach to researching the gender content of contemporary periodicals for women and men. Conceptual analysis of contemporary gender-stamped publications within the gender conceptual sphere allows to identify and correlate the meta-gender and gender concepts that appear in society.

Butyrina, Maria y Valentina Ryvlina. MEDIATIZATION OF ART: VIRTUAL MUSEUM AS MASS MEDIA. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, febrero de 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.49.11075.

Texto completo
Resumen
The research is devoted to the study of the phenomenon of mediatization of art on the example of virtual museums. Main objective of the study is to give communication characteristics of the mediatized socio-cultural institutions. The subject of the research is forms, directions and communication features of virtual museums. Methodology. In the process of study, the method of communication analysis, which allowed to identify and characterize the main factors of the museum’s functioning as a communication system, was used. Among them, special emphasis is put on receptive and metalinguistic functions. Results / findings and conclusions. The need to be competitive in the information space determines the gradual transformation of socio-cultural institutions into mass media, which is reflected in the content and forms of dialogue with recipients. When cultural institutions begin to function as media, they take on the features of media structures that create a communication environment localized by the functions of communicators and audience expectations. Museums function in such a way that along with the real art space they form a virtual space, which puts the recipients into the reality of the exhibitions based on the principle of immersion. Mediaization of art on the example of virtual museum institutions allows us to talk about: expanding of the perceptual capabilities of the audience; improvement of the exposition function of mediatized museums with the help of Internet technologies; interactivity of museum expositions; providing broad contextual background knowledge necessary for a deep understanding of the content of works of art; the possibility to have a delayed viewing of works of art; absence of thematic, time and space restrictions; possibility of communication between visitors; a huge target audience. Significance. The study of the mediatized forms of communication between museums and visitors as well as the directions of their transformation into media are certainly of interest to the scientific field of “Social Communications”.
