Hvad er opfattelsen af forholdet mellem religion og samfund blandt etniske danskere og de etniske minoriteter? Dette spørgsmål analyseres ud fra en spørgeskemaundersøgelse blandt etniske danskere og tyrkiske og pakistanske indvandrere og efterkommere i Danmark. Der formuleres tre hypoteser: For det første en sekulariseringshypotese: muslimer er mindre sekulariserede end danskere. For det andet en etnicitetshypotese: etnisk tilhørsforhold spiller en større rolle for værdier end trosretning. Den tredje hypotese vedrører socialisation og hævder at efterkommere placerer sig mellem etniske danskere og indvandrere mht. sekularisering. Sekularisering defineres som manglende sammenhæng mellem religion og andre værdier og måles i forhold til politik og familieværdier. Analysen viser at ingen af hypoteserne kan verificeres generelt, men at sammenhængene afhænger af såvel trosretning som etnisk gruppe. Graden af personlig religiøsitet spiller en rolle for graden af sekularisering, også for etniske danskerne. Resultaterne viser at man ikke kan skære alle muslimer over en kam og giver behov for mere nuancerede tolkninger af værdier blandt etniske grupper i Danmark. ENGELSK ABSTRACT: Peter Gundelach: The Many Faces of Secularism This article analyses the relationship between religion and politics in nine ethnic groups in Denmark (including Danes). The data were collected through a survey among these groups. Secularization is defined as the lack of a correlation between religion and other values, and is measured in relation to political and family values. The study has three hypotheses. 1) A secularization hypothesis states that Muslims are less secularized than Christians in Denmark; 2) An ethnicity hypothesis argues that ethnicity is more important than denomination as regards values; 3) A socialization hypothesis asserts that the longer time a person has lived in Denmark, the more s/he has secularized values. Since descendants of immigrants are socialized in Danish institutions as well as in immigrant families, the argument is that they are between the Danes and the immigrants in relation to secularization. The analysis shows that none of the hypotheses can be generally confirmed. Secularization must be explained by combinations of ethnicity and denomination. This means that it is impossible to generalize about the relationship between religious values and other values in all ethnic groups. Resumen
La sarna sarcóptica es una enfermedad parasitaria causada por el ácaro Sarcoptes scabiei. Afecta a mamíferos de todo el mundo, incluyendo al ser humano. En la fauna salvaje se considera una enfermedad emergente, pudiendo causar graves consecuencias poblacionales. La cabra montés (Capra pyrenaica) es un ungulado de montaña endémico de la Península Ibérica. Desde finales de los años 80, las poblaciones de cabra montés del sur y del este peninsular se han visto afectadas por esta parasitosis, con mortalidades variables que han llegado a superar el 90%. La mayoría de los estudios sobre la sarna en la cabra montés se han centrado en la epidemiología y los efectos poblacionales, por lo que no se conoce totalmente la fisiopatología y la patogenia de esta enfermedad en esta especie. En los dos primeros estudios de esta tesis, se analizaron las proteínas de fase aguda (PFA) (Estudio I) y se validó una prueba para la detección de inmunoglobulinas G (IgG) frente S. scabiei (Estudio II) en cabras monteses en libertad, tanto sanas como afectadas por sarna sarcóptica. En el Estudio I, se observó el aumento de las concentraciones de la proteína amiloide sérica tipo A y de la alfa-1 glicoproteína ácida, aunque en menor medida, en función de la extensión de las lesiones causadas por la sarna sarcóptica. Por el contrario, la concentración de haptoglobina no varió entre las cabras monteses sanas y las infestadas. Debido a la falta de un método diagnóstico de laboratorio efectivo, en el Estudio II se evaluaron tres ensayos por inmunoabsorción ligada a enzimas (ELISAs) para detectar IgG frente a S. scabiei en cabra montés, validando uno de los tres ELISAs que mostró una elevada especificidad y sensibilidad, al emplear el sistema de avidina-biotina. Los Estudios III y IV se llevaron a cabo con cabras monteses que presentaban diferentes alelos del gen DRB1 del complejo mayor de histocompatibilidad (MHC) clase II, infestadas experimentalmente con S. scabiei. Aunque todas las cabras infestadas desarrollaron lesiones compatibles con sarna sarcóptica, la evolución clínica varió desde lesiones extensas que afectaron la mayor parte de la superficie corporal hasta lesiones leves y recuperación clínica de la enfermedad (Estudio III). Sin embargo, estas diferencias clínicas no parecieron estar relacionadas con diferencias en el MHC. En las cabras monteses que desarrollaron cuadros clínicos graves de sarna se observó anemia, posiblemente relacionada con la inflamación causada por el ácaro, así como neutrofilia y linfopenia, probablemente debidas a las infecciones secundarias facilitadas por la sarna sarcóptica. La concentración de IgG también aumentó en función de la gravedad de las lesiones. Finalmente, en el Estudio IV se estudió la respuesta genómica de las cabras monteses frente a la infestación experimental con S. scabiei. En las cabras monteses con cuadros clínicos graves se observó un aumento de la expresión génica de vías relacionadas con la inmunidad y la inflamación, reflejo de la respuesta inmune generalizada, exacerbada e ineficaz inducida por el ácaro y de la respuesta frente las infecciones secundarias. Asimismo, las cabras monteses que se recuperaron mostraron un aumento de la expresión de genes relacionados con la presentación de antígeno y de activación de linfocitos T en la piel. Como resumen, la sarna sarcóptica produce cambios tanto sistémicos como locales, causando un aumento de PFA y anticuerpos, así como alteraciones hematológicas y en la expresión génica local y sistémica. Aunque las causas de las diferencias encontradas en la evolución clínica no han podido ser completamente dilucidadas, la inmunidad celular local cutánea puede ser clave en el control de la infestación. La detección de IgG mediante ELISA puede ser útil como método diagnóstico efectivo de la sarna sarcóptica en cabra montés, mientras que las PFA son un indicador pronóstico.
Sarcoptic mange is a parasitic skin disease caused by the burrowing mite Sarcoptes scabiei. It affects mammals worldwide, including humans. Sarcoptic mange in wildlife is considered an emerging disease, and can cause severe population declines. Iberian ibex (Capra pyrenaica) is a medium-sized mountain ungulate endemic to the Iberian Peninsula. Since the end of the ‘80s, the Iberian Ibex populations of Southern and Eastern Spain have been affected by mange, suffering variables mortalities reported to reach up to 90%. Most of the studies on sarcoptic mange in Iberian ibex have focused on the epidemiology and the population consequences of the diseases, thus existing a lack of knowledge about the pathophysiology and pathogenesis of this disease in this species. The two first studies of this thesis analysed the acute phase proteins (APP) (Study I) and validated a test for the detection of immunoglobulins G (IgG) against S. scabiei (Study II) in free-ranging Iberian ibexes, both healthy and affected by sarcoptic mange. In the Study I, an increase of serum amyloid protein type A (SAA) and in lower magnitude of alpha-1 acid glicoprotein (AGP) concentrations was observed, in correlation with the extent of the skin lesions caused by sarcoptic mange. Conversely, haptoglobin (Hp) concentration was not different between the healthy and infested ibexes. Since there is not an effective laboratory diagnostic method, in the Study II three enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays were evaluated for IgG detection against S. scabiei in Iberian ibex, and one of the three showed high specificity and sensitivity by using the avidin-biotin system, which allowed it to be validated. The Studies III and IV were carried out on Iberian ibexes with different alleles of the DRB1 gen of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II, experimentally infested with S. scabiei. Although all the infested ibexes developed lesions compatible with sarcoptic mange, the clinical evolution varied from extensive lesions affecting most of the body surface to mild lesions and clinical recovering of the disease (Study III). However, such clinical differences seemed unrelated to MHC differences. The severely affected ibexes showed anaemia, possibly related to the inflammation caused by the mite, as well as neutrophilia and lymphopenia, probably due to secondary infections favoured by sarcoptic mange. Immunoglobulin G concentration also increased in agreement with the severity of the lesions. Finally, the Study IV addressed the genomic response of Iberian ibexes to the experimental infestation with S. scabiei. The severely affected Iberian ibexes showed an increase in the gene expression of pathways related to immunity and inflammation, agreeing with the exacerbated and non-effective generalized immune response induced by the mite and the response to secondary infections. Moreover, the Iberian ibexes that recovered showed an increase in the local skin expression of genes related with antigen presentation and T-lymphocytes activation. To summarize, sarcoptic mange induces both systemic and local changes in the Iberian Ibex, causing an increase in APP and antibodies, as well as haematological and local and systemic gene expression disorders. Although the causes of the differences found in the clinical evolution have not been completely elucidated, local skin cellular immunity may be key in controlling the infestation. Immunoglobulin G detection by ELISA can be a useful and effective diagnostic tool for sarcoptic mange in Iberian Ibex, while APP are a prognostic indicator.

Vertebrate species are managed for many reasons, including their role as economically important predators or as carriers of disease. Successful management depends on the ability to predict the outcome of management actions on a species’ population dynamics. However, uncertainty in the models used to make such predictions can arise from multiple sources, including sampling error in vital rates, intraspecific demographic variation and unknown interspecific interactions. The red fox Vulpes vulpes provides a useful model organism for exploring such uncertainty, because management of this important predator and disease host is often ineffective, despite substantial sampling effort. By explicitly accounting for sampling error in survival and fecundity, confidence intervals for population growth rates were derived from published point estimates of red fox demographic data. Uncertainty in population growth rates was found to be high, requiring a quadrupling of sampling effort to halve the confidence intervals. Given the often poor justification for the choice of distribution used to model litter size, the influence of probability distributions on population model outcomes was tested. In this first comprehensive evaluation, estimates of quasi-extinction and disease control probabilities for three Canid species were found to be robust to litter size distribution choice. Demographic analyses of the red fox revealed a medium to fast life history speed and significant survival and fecundity contributions from juveniles to population growth. Intraspecific variation was detected within these spectra of demographic metrics: the first such demonstration for carnivores. Simulated data substitution between fox populations revealed that geographic proximity and similar levels of anthropogenic disturbance did not infer demographic similarity. Considering the sampling effort expended on the red fox, the species appears well-studied; yet, substantial limitations in data collection were identified. Compartment modelling of a sarcoptic mange outbreak in an urban fox population in Bristol, UK, revealed that disease transmission was frequency-dependent, consistent with contact rates being determined by social interactions rather than by population density. Individual-based modelling suggested that indirect transmission, genetic resistance and long-distance recolonisation were required to replicate the observed rapid spread of mange and subsequent population recovery. Thus, this first attempt to model mange dynamics in this canid provided novel insight into previously uncertain epidemiological and behavioural processes in the transmission of sarcoptic mange in the red fox.

Resumo: Ensinar a trabalhar é uma preocupação presente nos mais diversos agrupamentos humanos. No Brasil, registros sobre espaços de formação profissional aparecem desde o período colonial. No lar, nas oficinas, nos engenhos ou em escolas, o ensino de ofícios é uma constante, apresentando, muitas vezes, características próprias da filantropia ou da caserna, sendo quase sempre destinado aos "pobres, órfãos e desprovidos da sorte". Nos anos finais do Império e nas primeiras décadas da República, o Estado, a sociedade civil e a Igreja criaram várias instituições dessa natureza com a preocupação declarada de, a par da formação profissional, tentar manter a paz social pelo confinamento de jovens e crianças em espaços onde se formariam os futuros trabalhadores braçais, já que o trabalho intelectual era destinado aos filhos das elites. Em 22 de janeiro de 1942, parte integrante da assim chamada "Reforma Capanema" foi criado o SENAI - Serviço Nacional de Aprendizagem Industrial pelo decreto-lei 4.048 do então presidente Getúlio Vargas, a partir da interferência direta da elite empresarial, representada por Roberto Simonsen, Roberto Mange, Euvaldo Lodi e outros. A justificativa para tal criação foi a "falta de braços necessários ao parque industrial, então em franca expansão". Defendemos, porém, a tese de que essa premissa não é verdadeira e que a criação de escolas voltadas ao ensino de profissões foi, na verdade, necessária à manutenção e crescimento do capitalismo. A institucionalização do SENAI, diferente do discurso que afirma que os industriais o teriam "idealizado" a pedido do governo, percebemos que nem a massa empresarial (formada por pequenos e médios empresários) e nem os próprios operários o compreenderam num primeiro momento, não o identificando como um órgão pertencente a todos, mas como um encargo a mais, pelo recolhimento compulsório de impostos e que poderia causar desemprego aos não freqüentadores. Uma vez implantado, entretanto, o SENAI acabou por se constituir, por muitos anos, como o órgão hegemônico de formação de mão-de-obra industrial no Brasil, procurando, cada vez mais, uma aproximação com o sistema produtivo e cada vez menos com a educação. Esta tese procurou analisar a maneira como se configura a educação profissionalizante ofertada pelo SENAI à luz do materialismo históricodialético, refletindo sobre o método adotado (as S.M.O - Séries Metódicas Ocupacionais), os critérios para seleção e ingresso de alunos-aprendizes, suas normas acadêmicas e administrativas, o perfil do aluno que espera formar e as permanências e rupturas ocorridas no interior do processo nesses quase setenta anos de sua existência. Utilizando como modelo para análise a Escola SENAI Roberto Mange, de Campinas, nossa pesquisa apontou que o SENAI instituiu um modelo de educação profissionalizante que transita entre o desejo das classes dominantes de se manterem no poder para, a partir dali, capacitar trabalhadores que elas mesmas utilizarão e o discurso da "prestação de serviços", através do qual tenta convencer a opinião pública de que pratica uma educação democrática e desinteressada, afirmações que nosso trabalho procurou contribuir para desconstruir.
Abstract: Teaching young people and children how to work has been an usual concern in the majority of the human groups. In Brazil, it appears since the colonial period: inside the houses, at workshops or in proper institutions, professional education has always been developed, but maintaining the characteristics of philanthropy or the army, it has been, most of the time, destined to "poor, orphan or misfortunate people". During the final years of the Imperial period and the first decades of the Republic period, the government, the civil society and the Church created some institutions of this type with the stated goal to not only provide professional education but also to try to keep the social peace, by keeping poor teenagers and children indoors, in spaces where they could be rained to be future manual workers, because the intellectual work had lways been reserved to the rich children. In 1942, as an integrating part of the so called "Capanema Reformation" SENAI (National Service of Industrial Learning) was created through Edict number 4048 by President Getulio Vargas, with the direct interference of the entrepreneur elite, represented by Robert Simonsen, Robert Mange, Euvaldo Lodi and others. The explanation for such creation was the "lack of necessary arms to the industrial field, then in expansion". We defend, however, the thesis that this premise is not true and that the creation of schools providing professional formation was, actually, necessary for the maintenance and growth of the capitalism. The institutionalization of SENAI, differently from the speech which states that the industrial managers had "idealized" it due to a demand from the government, our researched showed that nor the enterprise mass (small and medium business owners) nor the workers had understood it at first, not being able to see it as an institution which belonged to all. but as another duty for taxes collection which could bring unemployment to those who wouldn't attent it. However, once implemented, SENAI turned out to be, for many years, the hegemonic institution for the formation of industrial labor workers in Brazil, searching to be closer to the productive system and further from education itself. This study meant to analyse the way how the professional education offered at SENAI is configurated based on dialect-historical materialism, considering the method which was adopted (the SMO - Occupational methodical grades), the criteria for approval and enrollment of apprentice-students, it's academical and administrative rules and the profile of the students the institution expects to form and also the parts of the interior process which remained and which were ruptured during its almost seventy years. Using SENAI Roberto Mange school, in the city of Campinas, as a subject of study, this research concluded that SENAI established a model of professional education which moves between the desire of the elite to hold the power to, through such courses, train workers who they will be able to hire later and the speech of "rendered public service", through which they try to convince the public opinion that an uninterested democratic education is actually offered, and with this research we hope to have helped decompose such statements.

Den overordnede målsettingen med denne studien er å undersøke tegnspråks betydning for begrepsoppfattelse i matematikk. Studien inneholder kunnskap om noen tegn som kan benyttes for noen matematiske begrep, og hvilken virkning lærerens valg av tegn kan ha for elevers begrepsoppfatning. Oppgavens matematiske fokus er på funksjonslære, men studien kan generaliseres til begrep innen andre områder av matematikken. Studien har to overordnede forskningsspørsmål:Hvilke aspekter ved et matematisk begrep understrekes ved ulike tegnspråklige tegn?Hvordan innvirker valg av tegn på utvikling av elevers begrepsbilde?For å besvare forksningsspørsmålene er det gjort en kvalitativ studie med et fleksibelt design der forskeren fungerer som en deltakende observatør. Datamaterialet for oppgaven er dermed innhentet via klasseromsobservasjon og interaksjon i form av samtaler med informantene. I den observerte klassen foregikk undervisningen på norsk tegnspråk. På den måten kunne forskeren observere språkets virkninger på elevenes matematikkforståelse. Datamaterialet består av videoopptak av fire dobbelttimer samt notater gjort fra observasjon. Dette materialet er analysert ved hjelp av et teoretisk grunnlag samt en teoretisk analyse som binder sammen de ulike teoriene. Studien bidrar til å belyse viktigheten av språkets semiotiske funksjon for utvikling av elevers begrepsbilder. Studiens resultater bekrefter at valg av tegnspråklige tegn i matematikkundervisning er av betydning for elevers begrepsbilder. Resultatene viser at bruk av ulike tegnspråklige tegn i undervisningen fremmer ulik forståelse av de matematiske begrepene. Videre viser resultatene at tegn som benyttes kan påvirke elevens forståelse av ideen bak de matematiske begrepene. Tegnene kan være med på å kategorisere elevenes begrepsforståelse i forskjellige perspektiv, som et prosessperspektiv og et objektperspektiv. Lærerens valg av tegn kan også være med på å formalisere elevenes matematiske språk enten ved å være konsekvent i bruk av tegn eller ved å endre tegn fra det generelle til det mer formelle. Funnene antyder at lærerens bruk av tegn for dets semiotiske funksjon kan ha en større påvirkning av elevenes begrepsoppfattelse enn hva lærere selv er klar over. Lærere må derfor ikke ta for gitt at elever har oppnådd den begrepsoppfattelsen av matematiske begrep som lærerne kanskje forventer.

Resumen
To obtain a degree in manufacturing, students traditionally faced with a decision to either join a manufacturing engineering or manufacturing technology program. Normally they make their decision based on several factors such as: the employability at that time, degree of difficulties, the degree plan and its suitability to their current living style, etc. One of the main factor that has a large weight in making their decision is the amount of math. involved in each degree. Students with less desire to get involved in the theoretical engineering science normally join the technology track while the rest join the engineering track. In this research a new degree called manufacturing engineering Technologies is proposed. The purpose of the new degree is to produce a super quality graduate who is capable of handling both the theoretical and the practical aspects in the manufacturing environment. This degree is not intended to compromise between manufacturing engineering and manufacturing technology, it is rather intended to generate a higher quality graduate. Traditionally, manufacturing engineering education focuses on the theoretical, mathematics, and experimentation aspect while manufacturing technology focuses on how to use, mange, maintain the different engineering tools and systems. The proposed degree is intended to produce a graduate that is capable of handling the theoretical and the practical issues very well. The expected performance of this graduate is to be a leader in product and system R&D, cost reduction and innovation initiatives.

Det danske sprog anses af mange lørnere som svært at lære, og især anses det som svært at blive flydende i. Dette bliver ofte tilskrevet den svære danske udtale. Artiklen her viser, at sprogskolernes håndtering af udtaleundervisning kan bidrage til voksne andetsprogstaleres udtaleproblemer. Her undersøges voksne lørneres og underviseres iagttagelser omkring det svære danske sprog, og undervisningen af det. I denne undersøgelse inddrages en analyse af undervisningsmateriale brugt ved voksenundervisning i dansk som andetsprog, og en diskussion af danskeksamener for andetsprogstalere. Vores resultater indikerer at udtale, og især vokaler, anses af både lørnere og undervisere som særligt svære at mestre. Samtidig undervises der ifølge vores informanter ikke nok i vokaludtale på de danske sprogskoler. Selvom de to informantgrupper generelt er relativt enige er især mængden af undervisning i udtale et kontrastpunkt mellem lørnere og undervisere. Vi diskuterer denne forskel, samt betydningen af meget lidt undervisningsmateriale der fokuserer på udtale efter DU-modul 1, og et manglende fokus på udtale i danskeksamenerne.
