L’article traite de l’évolution du féminisme chilien depuis le retour à la démocratie en 1990 à la suite de la dictature militaire du général Pinochet. Le mouvement de femmes et féministe qui était mobilisé dans les années 1980 autour de la revendication de « la démocratie dans le pays et à la maison » entre alors dans une phase de démobilisation et de divisions, liées à la double militance et à la tension entre autonomie et intégration, en particulier vis-à-vis de l’institutionnalisation des politiques d’égalité des sexes. Dans ce contexte singulier, l’autonomie constitue le marqueur de la radicalité féministe.

Louis IV, dont le règne et la conception même de la souveraineté furent si marqués par la guerre, aurait-il pu ne pas accorder à la cavalerie de sa Maison militaire une place éminente au sein de son armée ? Ces unités anciennes, que le roi a regroupé en un corps autonome, brillent bien sûr à la cour, mais qu’en est-il de leur rôle effectif sur les champs de bataille ? Pour envisager une réponse exhaustive à cette question, il faudrait tout d’abord étudier la Maison du Roi d’un point de vue organique, à la recherche des éléments intrinsèques – dont la volonté royale n’est pas le moindre – qui font une troupe d’élite. C’est ce que nous tenterons d’analyser dans le présent article en nous attachant d’abord aux éléments extérieurs et matériels (équipements, armement, organisation en escadron) puis à ceux qui déterminent véritablement la capacité au combat d’une troupe : la discipline, la formation et l’exercice.

Sur la base du matériel d’archives, jusqu’alors inédit, de la collection de Guillaume de Lamoignon – soit la correspondance officielle entre la cour française et ses correspondants étrangers et diplomatiques – qui est conservée actuellement à Moscou et concerne entre autres les documents de la conquête française de la Corse au cours des années 1550, l’histoire politique de l’administration française de l’île est considérée au travers du prisme des phénomènes naturels. Dans le contexte de la fin des Guerres d’Italie, la couronne française et ses représentants administratifs en Corse ont dû faire face à des problèmes difficiles, parce qu’ils n’avaient pas l’expérience de la défense du vaste territoire de l’île, contre la République de Gênes alliée à la maison de Habsbourg. En outre, l’une des difficultés principales, soulignée dans cet article, résidait dans l’accès par mer, qui dépendait de la saison, des conditions météorologiques et de l’état de la mer.

Resumen

En tant qu’expérience reliée à la terre, la terreur définit un espace, en même temps qu’elle détermine ou empêche un déplacement. Dans cet article, nous analysons deux types d’expériences de la terreur étatique : dans un premier temps, l’expérience de la terreur pendant la dictature militaire argentine (1976-1983) ; puis dans un deuxième temps, celle produite par la crise économique, politique et institutionnelle qui a éclaté en Argentine en décembre 2001. Nous nous interrogeons sur la manière dont deux textes littéraires représentent la terreur dictatoriale et la terreur de la crise institutionnelle afin de repérer les points communs et les différences. Nous analysons les espaces privés (la maison familiale et le lieu de travail) et la manière dont ils sont définis par la terreur. Enfin, nous tentons d’identifier les déplacements interdits ou rendus possibles par cette expérience. Nous centrons notre analyse sur les romans L’Intempérie (Éditions Payot & Rivages, 2007 [2005]) de Pedro Mairal, qui fait allusion à la crise de 2001, et Sciences morales (Éditions du Seuil, 2010 [2007]) de Martín Kohan, où la période dictatoriale est abordée. Quant au cadre théorique, nous utilisons les concepts d’état d’exception, de guerre civile et d’anomie développés par Giorgio Agamben dans ses oeuvres consacrées à l’homo sacer.

Antoine de Bourbon, duc de Vendôme, roi de Navarre, premier prince du sang et progéniteur de la maison royale de Bourbon, s’est fait à la fin de sa vie en 1562 une mauvaise réputation surtout parmi les protestants. Les espérances qu’ils avaient mises en lui furent déçues, et ils considéraient qu’il avait trahi la cause de Dieu et sa conscience en continuant à revendiquer un royaume fantôme qu’il cherchait à obtenir du roi d’Espagne. Certains contemporains l’ont décrit comme courageux, mais souvent frivole et manquant de jugement. D’autres ont dit qu’il avait mal traité sa femme, Jeanne d’Albret, l’héroïne de la cause protestante. Depuis, la plupart des historiens ont suivi ce point de vue. Ce jugement semble fixé et il est probablement inutile de le combattre, mais on doit le regarder tout simplement comme une tradition historiographique. L’auteur du présent article, qui prépare une édition aussi complète que possible de sa correspondance active et passive (plus de 1 250 lettres), considère que le moment est venu d’évaluer à nouveau sa sensibilité religieuse et les dilemmes auxquels il a fait face pendant les années de l’essor du protestantisme en France et le début des guerres de religion, durant lesquelles il a joué un rôle central. Sa correspondance apporte des nuances à ses croyances religieuses et le met décidément parmi ceux, tout en sympathisant avec l’idée de réforme, étaient plutôt « moyenneurs » pragmatiques, qui ne se souciaient des controverses dogmatiques, enclins enfin aux doctrines « évangéliques » de la Confession d’Augsbourg. Cette position l’a mis dans une situation impossible pendant les années des controverses de plus en plus aiguës. Bien qu’on l’ait souvent dit dépourvu d’expérience politique, il était en réalité rompu au gouvernement des provinces et expérimenté comme chef militaire. Il est toutefois vrai que sa clientèle, à l’origine issue de Picardie, était mal adaptée au territoire qu’il détenait en Gascogne par l’héritage de sa femme. Il fut pourvu de la charge de lieutenant-général du royaume en 1561 et, bien que Catherine de Médicis ait su manier l’appareil de l’État, son office était d’une importance prééminente pour un prince qui se regardait comme le protecteur de la couronne et ancré dans un monde dynastique qui excluait l’abandon des droits hérités souvent regardés – alors et maintenant – comme inutiles. D’où son obsession de faire valoir ses droits en Navarre, ses négociations avec Philippe II et l’influence de celles-ci sur ses décisions relatives à la question religieuse.

Cette étude se penche sur les questions liées à la traduction en matière de circulation et diffusion transnationales d’idées et d’ouvrages «positifs » du point de vue du genre, en s’appuyant sur l’expérience de la maison d’édition française militante Talents Hauts et de ses livres traduits et publiés en Italie. Après un bref aperçu du panorama éditorial actuel, nous présentons les Éditions Talents Hauts, leur ligne éditoriale, les principes et les soucis éthiques et culturels qui en sous-tendent l’activité. L’analyse du catalogue révèle une production riche et diversifiée relativement aux classes d’âge et aux genres textuels, ainsi qu’une place marginale de la traduction au sein de la politique éditoriale. Pour ce qui est de l’importation des ouvrages de Talents Hauts en Italie, nous pouvons également observer des échanges restreints et un nombre limité de traductions italiennes. En nous basant sur quelques questions centrales liées à la traduction ou non-traduction, aux maisons d’édition qui publient ces traductions et à la présence de genres textuels privilégiés ou négligés, nous tenterons enfin de réfléchir sur les aspects éditoriaux et socio-culturels susceptibles d’influencer la traduction — et la réception — de ces ouvrages dans un nouveau contexte éditorial et culturel.

Le port et l’usage de l’appareil photographique est réglementé dès 1914 dans la zone des armées et il est, officiellement, impossible de s’improviser photographe sans autorisation. Pourtant lorsqu’en 1915, il est question de créer une section photographique de l’armée (SPA), la composition de l’équipe des photographes, non qu’elle soit secondaire, semble alors symboliser à ce moment une tâche et un savoir-faire entièrement réservés aux professionnels des maisons photographiques civiles. Rapidement, l’équipe évolue et la SPA s’y implique et s’y impose de plus en plus en exigeant notamment que les photographes soient tous militaires. Cet article propose de revenir sur leur recrutement, leur formation au sein de la SPA, leurs contraintes matérielles et techniques et enfin le déroulement type de leur mission. Tous ces éléments mettent en valeur le métier de reporter militaire et l’effort collectif d’une équipe de techniciens professionnels dans une logique de propagande patriotique. Certes, ce patriotisme créé la SPA, mais les intérêts patrimoniaux du sous-secrétariat des Beaux-arts la projettent dans le long terme.

This paper focuses on the time perspective dynamics of the Ukrainian 17–24-year-olds which reside in the south-eastern regions of Ukraine, such as Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk and Odessa regions, during the period 2012–2015. The study included areas bordering the zone of military conflict, or those that are an area of great national importance and therefore are a strategic area in military operations, which can begin there. All subjects filled out a personal data questionnaire (age, gender, place of residence) and the Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI) in the Ukrainian-language adaptation by A. Senik or the Russian-language adaptation by A. Syrtsova. Thus, the research has covered three periods which differ in social, political and economical stability: before Maidan, during Maidan and the one started with onset of armed conflict in the Eastern regions of the country. The temporal perspective of young people, measured during these periods, may also differ because of changes in the social and material parameters of life. The results have shown that during the aforementioned period future time orientation decreases, whilst the numbers of present fatalistic and past negative time orientations as well as a negative interpretation of past events increase with onset of armed conflict in the Eastern regions of the country. The significance of time orientations does not differ in the period before the Maidan and in the Maidan period, and grow only in the period from the outbreak of the military conflict – simultaneously with significant changes in the social and material parameters of the population life living near the military conflict zone. The results obtained – a decrease in the setting of long-term goals, an increase in fatalism (helplessness) and a negative assessment of the past – may be the result of the young people traumatic experience, through the prism of which past, present and future events of one's own life are evaluated.

Russia's special military operation in Ukraine once again requires revisiting the course of events on the Maidan in 2013-2014. The facts allow not only to reproduce the sequence of actions of the opposing parties, but also to establish the true causes and consequences of what happened, the foreign actors and the background of the Ukrainian crisis - the most significant international crisis since the end of the Cold War. The authors offer an answer to the question whether the 2014 Maidan events were a "revolution of dignity" or an illegal coup d'état, which imposed a radically nationalist scenario to the country, and consider the relevancy of the term "neo-Nazism" to the realities of post-Maidan Ukraine.

Abstract This study analyzes revelations from the trial and investigation in Ukraine concerning the mass killing that took place in Kyiv on 20 February 2014. This Maidan massacre of protesters and police led to the overthrow of the Yanukovych government and ultimately to the Russian annexation of Crimea, the civil war and Russian military interventions in Donbas, and the Ukraine-Russia and West-Russia conflicts which Russia escalated by illegally invading Ukraine in 2022. The absolute majority of wounded Maidan protesters, nearly 100 prosecution and defense witnesses, synchronized videos, and medical and ballistic examinations by government experts pointed unequivocally to the fact that the Maidan protesters were massacred by snipers located in Maidan-controlled buildings. To date, however, due to the political sensitivity of these findings and cover-up, no one has been convicted for this massacre. The article discusses the implications of these revelations for the Ukraine-Russia war and the future of Russian-Ukrainian relations.

NATO – Ukraine relations for recent decades have been one of the key issues of the discussion on European security. Coup d’etat and the outbreak of civil war in 2014 have established new situation in these relations. Both sides have got boost for cooperation though new obstacles have appeared for their rapprochement. Analyzing the aid NATO and its principal members provide Ukraine one may consider what is the relations between NATO and Ukraine and what are the motives defining the proper form of aid. Despite broad political support for Ukraine NATO members are rather moderate in the field of practical aid. Arms supply is restrained. The dominating form of aid appears to be intensified joint military exercises and NATO’s military presence of Ukrainian territory. Though US and other NATO members reaffirm and enhance their unformal commitments and guaranties to Ukraine they also try to avoid steps that could lead to direct confrontation with Russia. Thus NATO – Ukraine relations may illustrate “alliance dilemma”.

The large hillfort at Hembury, near Honiton (Devon) is one of the most impressive late prehistoric sites in South-West England. Occupied in the Neolithic and Iron Age, it was taken over by a Roman force about or shortly before A.D. 50. Substantial timber buildings were constructed, including a probablefabrica, in which iron from the adjacent Blackdown hills was worked. The Roman site was abandoned by the early Flavian period and not reoccupied. Though not evidently a conventional fort, Hembury joins a list of hillforts in South-West England which were used by the Roman army in the early decades of conquest. These include Hod Hill and possibly Maiden Castle (Dorset), Ham Hill and South Cadbury (Somerset).

Resumen

Following Wheeler's excavations at Maiden Castle, the multivallate hillforts of Wessex came to be seen as responses to a specific form of warfare based around the massed use of slings. As part of the wider post-processual ‘rethink’ of the British Iron Age during the late 1980s and 1990s, this traditional ‘military’ interpretation of hillforts was increasingly subject to criticism. Apparent weaknesses in hillfort design were identified and many of the most distinctive features of these sites (depth of enclosure, complexity of entrance arrangements, etc) were reinterpreted as symbols of social isolation. Yet this ‘pacification’ of hillforts is in many ways as unsatisfactory as the traditional vision. Both camps have tended to view warfare as a detached, functional, and disembedded activity which can be analysed in terms of essentially timeless concepts of military efficiency. Consideration of the use of analogous structures in the ethnographic record suggests that, far from being mutually exclusive, the military and symbolic dimensions are both essential to a more nuanced understanding of the wider social role of hillforts in Britain and beyond.

La chanson populaire et la chanson politique sont souvent présentées comme deux catégories distinctes et autonomes. Cependant, à la fin du xix e siècle, des rencontres fécondes peuvent se produire entre la culture politique et la pratique chantée du peuple : c’est le cas dans la métropole lilloise dans les années 1890. À la faveur de la conquête politique de Roubaix par les guesdistes, se met en place une propagande en chansons originale, qui réoriente et réinvente des modes de sociabilités antérieures. Alors qu’au niveau national, les socialistes utilisent des chansons en français pour diffuser leurs idées, commémorer la Révolution, soutenir les grèves, localement, on recourt à des chansons en patois de Lille pour s’adresser au peuple dans sa langue, pour resserrer les liens entre les représentants ouvriers et leurs camarades anonymes, pour animer les fêtes des Maisons du peuple et des coopératives. L’article s’intéresse aux différents aspects de cette production chansonnière, dont il examine les modes de diffusion – acteurs, lieux, supports, types d’interprétation, réception.

Resumen

This paper analyses the editorial policies of an Italian independent publishing house, Lo Stampatello. Drawing on the theoretical and methodological tools of Translation Studies and Gender Studies as well as on discourse analysis, the study examines the ethos projected by the publisher. The analysis relies on a corpus of interviews (written and oral) and it also considers the catalogue of the publishing house. The analysis shows that Lo Stampatello defines itself, by its very nature and from the very outset, as a militant publishing house. In the words of the publishers and in the chosen editorial policy, a strong political and ethical commitment can be observed, one that is openly claimed by the publishers. Gender issues take therefore centre stage, not least due to the position of the publishing house in the Italian literary field and to the social and cultural context of this country.

Purpose. The article analyses the image of a military pilot in Soviet memoir literature. A lot of research works were devoted to the study of Soviet literature and its figurative system, but no special works have been found that focus on this character. The research material is a book of essays by M. Chechneva My Battle Friends (1968). The author used the method of mythopoetic analysis, as well as a structural-typological approach.Results. The work substantiates a typological similarity between a pilot and a warrior maiden at the characterological, gender, mythopoetic, allusive, and nominative levels. The study revealed significant elements of the image of a military pilot and associated motives – revenge, delayed marriage. These motifs refer to the inherent gender inversion in such plots, highlight the masculinity of the heroines, a characteristic of the type of female warrior. The image under the study is intertextually connected with Russian epic heroines, which allows us to talk about the traditional nature of the type itself. The semantics of the nomination “night witches” is also analyzed, which paradoxically takes on positive connotations. In addition, specific socialist realist layers were found in the model under consideration – the heroines are characterized by such qualities as discipline, rigor, and calmness.Conclusion. The image of a military pilot fits into the paradigm of the warrior maiden type, but has some peculiarities. This is due to the artistic method within which the author of the essays worked, as well as to the time of writing the works.

Abstrait Dans l’iconographie chrétienne, le dragon est généralement associé au mal et se trouve représenté vaincu par le Christ, saint Georges, d’autres saints ou des figures bibliques. Au Moyen-Âge, il figure aussi sur des chapiteaux, dans les marges des manuscrits ou dans les blasons de familles et d’ordres militaires. Le dragon, parfois, est dépourvu de son sens négatif et investi d’un sens positif. La présente étude vise à identifier l’image du dragon dans le contexte luso-brésilien entre les XVIe et XIXe siècles. Il s’agit en particulier d’examiner la relation entre le dragon comme symbole du mal et le sens qu’il prend quand il est associé au pouvoir impérial brésilien. On envisagera le déplacement entre la dévotion à saint Georges, liée à la dynastie d’Avis, et l’image du dragon dans l’héraldique de la maison et dynastie de Bragance. Les images de trois codex seront examinées: le Livro do Armeiro-Mor (Livre de l’Armurier–majeur), un manuscrit enluminé de 1509, le Livro da nobreza (Livre de la noblesse) de 1521 et le Tesouro da Nobreza (Trésor de la Noblesse) de 1675. Ces codex sont conservés à Torre do Tombo à Lisbonne. À titre de comparaison, l’étude recourt aussi à d’autres images, afin d’analyser la survie de la représentation du dragon dans les symboles royaux.

L’article suivant examine la participation des usagères dans les maisons de naissance du Québec en analysant son évolution sociohistorique, et ce, du point de vue des comités de parents. Il s’appuie sur une recherche qualitative menée auprès de femmes membres de comités de parents pour comprendre comment les groupes militants s’organisent et développent des moyens d’action concrets, novateurs, adaptés à leur réalité et répondant aux besoins de leur collectivité. Cet article propose de situer la problématique à l’étude en abordant les contextes historique, politique, juridique et institutionnel, ainsi qu’en présentant la pratique sage-femme. Les résultats de recherche, analysés selon un cadre conceptuel de la participation, permettent d’identifier le désir des femmes de s’engager dans une maternité respectée, pour elles-mêmes et leur collectivité, de dégager une typologie des comités de parents et de leurs activités, de cerner les défis rencontrés et les stratégies déployées par les usagères et, enfin, d’aborder leurs perspectives sur leur participation au sein des comités.

En se penchant sur l'occupation de la ville ukrainienne de Berditchev et le meurtre de 18.000 habitants juifs par des SS et des policiers allemands, cet article examine les transformations de l'espace au travers de la violence de masse autant en termes sociaux que topographiques. Immédiatement après avoir pris la ville, les Allemands commencent à utiliser l'espace en le restructurant et en le modelant en fonction de leurs intérêts. Le parc du centre-ville se mue en cimetière pour les soldats allemands tombés durant la prise de la ville. Les écoles servent de zone d'accueil pour les troupes de la Wehrmacht, tandis que les habitants doivent quitter leur maison pour laisser place aux militaires et au personnel civil allemand. Tous les Juifs sont forcés de se déplacer dans les quartiers les plus pauvres et les plus sales, avant d'être rassemblés, assassinés et enterrés dans le voisinage immédiat de la ville. Dans l’étude de ces pratiques d’occupation et d’annihilation, cet article s’interroge en même temps sur la manière dont les Juifs et les Ukrainiens y réagissent. Il montre comment la ville de Berditchev est devenue la ville allemande de Berditschew, en soutenant que les transformations spatiales dans leur dimension sociale et topographique ont été parallèlement produites par tous les groupes, et en quoi ils ont été l’objet de nouvelles assignations et appropriations par tous.

The Ulka I cemetery was discovered on the site of the ancient Ulka settlement during rescue excavations conducted by A. V. Surkov in 2017. It is located 5.4 km northeast of Maykop (Adygea, RF). A total of four Proto-Maeotian burials were uncovered in these burial grounds. This article focuses on the wealthiest burial 3, which contained the remains of a warrior flanked by two horse skulls to the south — apparently in imitation of a cart or chariot. The burial inventory consisted of a long bimetallic sword with a length of 108 cm, a spearhead, a quiver with nine bronze arrows, gold and silver pendants of the «Šarengrad» type, gold-plated bronze buttons and various other items. Ananalysis of the funeral inventory shows that the main items belong to the Chernogorovka or Pre-Novocherkassk category of Proto-Maeotian material. However, the burial also contains later chronological indicators, e. g. arrowheads of the «Novocherkassk type» and aclasp of the «Slobodzeya» type. In general, it is possible to suggest a dating within the second half of the 8th century BC for the complex. The burial inventory indicates that the deceased belonged to the highest military elite of Proto-Maeotian society. He probably took part in military campaigns in the Trans-Caucasus, owned multiple herds of horses, and oversawtransactions and exchange with the elite of Central Europe.

Russian interference and invasion in Ukraine have transformed that nation’s historical practice of mural painting. A traditional art form with deep religious and political resonance in Ukraine, murals have become an instrument for patriotic mass mobilisation against the Russian military threat. From the mid-2000s, spraypaint graffiti underwent a gradual process of professionalisation and reconciliation with mainstream culture as Ukrainian municipalities pursued urban beautification initiatives and city-branding strategies to mitigate the socioeconomic challenges of postsocialism. It was this legacy of apolitical, privately funded street art that provided the foundations for patriotic muralism following the Maidan “Revolution of Dignity” and the Russian annexation of Crimea. Amidst the post-Maidan search for a postcolonial understanding of Ukrainian culture disentangled from Soviet and Russian influences, professionally produced murals in central urban districts proposed new visions of national identity. The war’s intensification since 2022 has resulted in a decentralisation of mural production. No longer reliant on international festivals in urban centres, conflict murals are now made by Ukrainian artists in large cities and small towns across the country. The newest murals represent a blending of the physical and digital—with a subject matter often inspired by viral conflict memes; artworks are, in turn, shared with worldwide audiences via social media.

We consider whether prior political activism increases the likelihood of engaging in higher-risk forms of violent collective action. We test our hypothesis in the context of the 2014 Euromaidan and subsequent separatist violence in Eastern Ukraine. In the aftermath of the Euromaidan protests, the Ukrainian government began a widespread campaign to mobilize young men for military service against separatist movements in the Donbas region amid escalating tensions with Russia. In July 2014, we survey young men who were volunteering to join the Ukrainian military’s counterinsurgency efforts and compare them to other young men who live in the same community but had not volunteered. Using a case control study design, we interviewed 100 young men who reported to a local Ukrainian army recruitment station in Kharkiv, a city in Eastern Ukraine which was an important center for military recruitment efforts. We compared them to 100 other young men who lived in the same communities, received recruitment notices, but had chosen not to report. Military recruits were sampled by cluster-sampling at the recruitment station, with random selection of recruits by cluster. Civilian males were sampled by random route in the vicinity of the recruitment station. When comparing survey responses between recruits and civilians, we find strong linkages between prior Euromaidan participation and military mobilization. Our results are robust to controls for parochial ethnocentrism and mere support for Euromaidan goals. Maidan participation and military mobilization are also correlated with a strong sense of self-efficacy, optimism, risk tolerance, patriotic nationalism, and feelings of in-group solidarity with protesters and the military. These correlates illustrate plausible mechanisms for how individuals could transition to increasingly higher-cost, higher-risk forms of collective action.

According to archivists a photograph can be both an illustrative material and a historical source. But still there is no handbook which can describe all aspects connected with photograpfic documentation. In the State Archive in Rzeszów (complex “Archiwum Podworskie Mierów-Jędrzejowiczów w Staromieściu”) there is the small separated collection of photographies. They present: portrait photos (Tytus Jan Mateusz hrabia Mier, Henryka z Mierów Komorowska) and watches with a miniature portrait of Jan hrabia Mier; postcards with photos of military manoeuvres; the portrait photo (Lubina z Rogoyskich Mierowa) and a photo for official documents (Jan Feliks Jędrzejowicz). The family of Mier which had Scotish and Calvinist roots and the family of Jędrzejowicz of Armenian and merchant origin were connected by the marriage contracted in 1878 in Vienna between Adam Jędrzejowicz (1847–1924), the son of Jan Kanty and Maria (maiden name Straszewska) from Zaczernie and Gabriela Felicja (maiden name Mier) (1850–1939), the daughter of Feliks and Felicja, divorced with Zdzisław Tyszkiewicz, the heir to landed property of Kolbuszowa. After the wedding Staromieście became their family home (now it is within the city limits of Rzeszów). Then Jan Feliks (1879–1942), the only son of this couple, managed the estate. Photographs provide valuable information both in the textual (notes connected with presented on photos persons, things, events) and illustrative stratum.

The article focuses on the screen incarnations of female characters, whose images, being contemporary with the challenges of today, associated with the archetype of the Warrior, destroy the stereotypical notions of the feminine as weak and passive characteristic of traditional (that is, phallocentric/patriarchal) culture. Nowadays, such an essentialist view seems not just debatable, but finds an alternative interpretation, both in material realities and in artistic practices. In particular, the cinematography of Ukraine at the beginning of the 21st century convincingly testifies to the expansion of the body of representations of the feminine. The film material of the early 2020s convincingly testifies to the actualization of the screen incarnations of the image-concept of the warrior woman, which is symptomatic of the military and political contexts of today. New Ukrainian cinema seeks to understand the little-studied experience of women’s participation in hostilities and the peculiarities of their stay in military captivity, implementing modern feminist approaches to the study of the topic “woman and war”. In an effort to go beyond the stereotypical vision of women within the dipole “heroine-victim”, the screen demonstrates the transformation of gender patterns and at the same time is a continuation of a tradition with deep historical roots.

Seit ihrer Ankunft in Toulouse am Anfang des 12. Jh. konnten sich die Johanniter auf die lokalen Eliten stützen. Für die dominierenden Familien der Stadt konnte sich die Nähe zum Ritterorden durchaus als interessant erweisen. Dafür steht die Geschichte der Familie der Barrau, die man damals im noch von der römischen Stadtmauer umgebenen Teil der Stadt finden kann. Ein Teil der Familie trat um das Jahr 1200 dem Ritterorden bei und brachte den Johannitern einen beträchtlichen Grundbesitz ein mit dem sie wohl ihre neue Kommende gründen konnten. Die weiblichen Familienmitglieder spielen mitunter eine wichtige Rolle für den Orden : Sie widmeten sich den Geschäften der Johanniter und blieben so in Kontakt mit den Ordensrittern ihrer Familie. Die Ordensgemeinschaft verschuf den Barrau eine einflussreiche Stellung in der Stadt auch in jenen Jahren in denen sie wenig in der Stadtregierung als Konsuln vertreten sein konnten. Die Karriere im Ritterorden diente so auch dem politischen Einfluss der Familie.

The aim of the study is to determine the spatial differentiation of wages and their selected determinants in the Ukrainian regions within 2004—2016. Based on data of the Ukrainian statistical office (the State Statistics Service of Ukraine), panel regression methods (OLS and GMM with individual and random effects) were used.It follows from the deliberations that the Ukrainian economy developed very rapidly to the global financial crisis and the Ukrainian-Russian gas conflict (2008and2009). Labor productivity increased, unemployment fell, which translated into increased wages in all Ukrainian regions. Then, also due to the political and military conflict after Euro-Maidan (2013 and 2014), GDP, labour productivity and wages decreased, while unemployment increased (especially in the Donbas). This, in turn, leads to the economic emigration of inhabitants and the gradual depopulation of Ukraine.

Resumen

The Battle of Vimy Ridge was a military engagement between the Canadian Corps and the German Empire during the Great War (1914-1918). In this battle, Canadian troops fought as a single unit and won the day. It marked an important point in Canadian history as a nation. The year 2017 marks the centenary of this battle. In commemoration of this event, the Pas-de-Calais Departmental Council financed a 3D recording mission for one of the underground tunnels (souterraines) used as refuge by the Canadian soldiers several weeks prior to the battle. A combination of Terrestrial Laser Scanner (TLS) and close-range photogrammetry techniques was employed in order to document not only the souterraine, but also the various carvings and graffitis created by the soldiers on its walls. The resulting point clouds were registered to the French national geodetic system, and then meshed and textured in order to create a precise 3D model of the souterraine. In this paper, the workflow taken during the project as well as several results will be discussed. In the end, the resulting 3D model was used to create derivative products such as maps, section profiles, and also virtual visit videos. The latter helps the dissemination of the 3D information and thus aids in the preservation of the memory of the Great War for Canada.

The main drivers and problems of the economic growth are analyzed. The conclusion about deep structural transformation is made. Now the economic structure is closer to the European proportions, but at the same time the trend of the simplification and dependence on the Western sponsors dominate.

AbstractLike all maiden kings, Nítíða initially rejects her suitors only to accept marriage eventually. Rather than accepting the saga’s ‘happy ending’ as its heroine’s choice, this article argues that her kingship is cast as liminal in Victor Turner’s sense. Her character reflects liminal traits: visual, temporal and sexual ambiguity, mediated through the motif of invisibility, body-thing relations and notions of space. Nítíða’s kingship is structured as a transition to the role of a queen, which she does not take on voluntarily, but because she lacks choice in the face of her increasingly fragile power. Her suitor Livorius ultimately succeeds neither by trickery, military power, nor a courtly approach, but by employing structures Nítíða is excluded from due to her sex. Ukraine adopted its first National Action Plan (NAP) on UNSCR 1325 on Women, Peace and Security whilst facing an active military conflict on its territory. The country also invested in localising the Women, Peace and Security agenda through the development of regional and local action plans. Additionally, several ministries adopted sectoral action plans. This article looks at the context in which Ukraine developed its first NAP 1325 (post-Maidan) and assesses the NAP against global high impact NAP indicators. The authors then focus on connections between the national and regional/local-level plans and conclude that Ukraine's first NAP did 'trigger' localisation initiatives in the form of Regional Action Plans (RAP) on UNSCR 1325, with Local Action Plans having been initiated via a separate track. A certain level of synergy was realised between initiatives stemming from these plans. The authors do, however, conclude untapped potential remains to further nurture, facilitate and support bottom-up Women, Peace and Security initiatives in Ukraine.

Resumen

El 24 de febrero de 2022, Rusia da inicio a una “operación militar especial” con el propósito de desmilitarizar y nesnazificar Ucrania (Guerra, 2022), cuya intención la justifica el presidente de Rusia como una operación de defensa propia porque afecta los intereses del país que se veían afectados en las intenciones por parte de Ucrania a formar parte de la Unión Europea y sobre todo de la OTAN. Adicionalmente, como una parte previa de este conflicto y que toma una forma violenta, se presenta después de las protestas estudiantiles en Kiev en la plaza de Maidán durante el año 2013, debido a la negativa del gobierno ucraniano de no firmar un acuerdo con la Unión Europea (Kurkov, 2014). Esto con llevó a que el presidente Viktor Yanukovich renunciara, y que las regiones de Donestk y Lugansk se alzarán contra el gobierno ucraniano al ser regiones pro-rusas (France 24, 2022).

RésuméDeux auteurs de la Rome impériale parlent d'une plebs média, opposée à la plebs humilis. Il existait une classe moyenne dans cette société à ordines, qui se manifeste par son énorme présence matérielle (maisons, inscriptions, art funéraire). Sa définition est négative et hétérogène : les plébéiens moyens ne sont ni membres des ordines privilégiés, ni réduits à gagner quotidiennement leur pain, ni positivement riches (ils sont pauvres au sens antique du mot), ni de naissance servile ; ils incarnent le citoyen moyen et aussi le « lecteur idéal » de la semiotique littéraire. Pour la classe gouvernante, ils sont la « partie saine » du peuple. On appartient à la plèbe moyenne dès qu'on ne vit plus au jour le jour et qu'on est rentier du sol qui vit de loisir ou boutiquier ayant un gros outillage ou un entrepôt. Cette catégorie se signale par la conscience de soi des marchands ou artisans, par le concept de métier comme exploit et non comme identité, par l'entraide par le crédit entre confrères ; le souci de faire des affaires s'oppose à avoir un patrimoine ; la morale d'Horace, l'iconographie du banquet dit funèbre et le fantasme compensatoire : « vous avez la richesse, nous avons la bonne vie » ; les Disticha Catonis sont « un miroir de bourgeoisie » qui renvoie aux plébéiens leur propre sagesse, sous prétexte de la leur enseigner. La plebs de l'Urbs n'était pas une tourbe dépolitisée ; sous des leaders issus de la plèbe moyenne, elle conserve une légitimité politique et parfois militaire. Mais une économie d'échanges au processus très morcelé, sans vrai système bancaire, sans marché large et transparent, mais avec de la corruption, des squeezes et des pots-de-vin partout, a maintenu la plèbe moyenne dans une dépendance économique à la classe gouvernante.

The events on Maidan, the Russian-Ukrainian war in the East of Ukraine became a particular challenge not only for the novice writers but also for the famous masters of the word. Some of them took part in the defense of the country; others were strictly focused on the contemporary situation and talked with the soldiers who returned from the front. New works with scary stories and unexpected solutions aroused. In addition to the common theme, these books, published in 2014–2018, showed another common longed-for phenomenon – the emergence of a new hero. He is a patriot who, with weapons in hands, defends the homeland in Donbas, his own choice and future. He is a well-educated young man with a strong pro-Ukrainian position who is proud of his nationality. He has the power to design and successfully conduct a military special operation. Now he is ready for changes within society, he is savvy in questions of politics and course of Ukraine in the international arena. He is characterized by determination and perseverance, he is ready to fight. The new hero does not trust the central government since during all the years of independence it demonstrated to its own people only political weakness and double standards. An ordinary Ukrainian might be used to adjust himself to all the authorities without exception. However, the events of Maidan, and then the war woke up the society and swept its apathy. The desire to defend oneself, one’s family and friends, and the whole country gave strength to the people. Thus a new, self-confident and strong Ukrainian became typical. He is a leader able to motivate his comrades for being active in the battlefield and politics.The new hero may have even some messianic features corresponding to the people’s expectations.
