Resumen
The present study was conducted in the periphery of the Loktak by interviewing with 300 selected respondents using purposive sampling technique to assess the environmental issues of the Loktak lake and its surrounding areas and also to assess the environmental consciousness of the people living in and around the lake. All (100%) respondents reported the natural resources of Loktak lake is declining and most of them (28.33%) felt that the decline of the natural resources of Loktak lake was found to be pollution of the lake water. In the overall percentage of major environmental issues of the areas or villages in and around the Loktak lake water pollution (37%) was highest. The study found that the highest percentage in terms of the level of environmental consciousness people had was “Average” (87.33%). Improvement of education, organizing effective awareness programmes for the conservation and sustainable management of the Loktak lake and its surrounding environment, seeking alternative means of livelihoods are suggested.

Abstract. Climate change is likely to have major implications for wetland ecosystems, which will include altered water level regimes due to modifications in local and catchment hydrology. However, substantial uncertainty exists in the precise impacts of climate change on wetlands due in part due to uncertainty in GCM projections. This paper explores the impacts of climate change upon river discharge within three sub-catchments of Loktak Lake, an internationally important wetland in northeast India. This is achieved by running pattern-scaled GCM output through distributed hydrological models (developed using MIKE SHE) of each sub-catchment. The impacts of climate change upon water levels within Loktak Lake are subsequently investigated using a water balance model. Two groups of climate change scenarios are investigated. Group 1 uses results from seven different GCMs for an increase in global mean temperature of 2 °C, the purported threshold of "dangerous" climate change, whilst Group 2 is based on results from the HadCM3 GCM for increases in global mean temperature between 1 °C and 6 °C. Results from the Group 1 scenarios show varying responses between the three sub-catchments. The majority of scenario-sub-catchment combinations (13 out of 21) indicate increases in discharge which vary from <1% to 42% although, in some cases, discharge decreases by as much as 20%. Six of the GCMs suggest overall increases in river flow to Loktak Lake (2–27%) whilst the other results in a modest (6%) decline. In contrast, the Group 2 scenarios lead to an almost linear increase in total river flow to Loktak Lake with increasing temperature (up to 27% for 6 °C), although two sub-catchments experience reductions in mean discharge for the smallest temperature increases. In all but one Group 1 scenario, and all the Group 2 scenarios, Loktak Lake water levels are higher, regularly reaching the top of a downstream hydropower barrage that impounds the lake and necessitating the release of water for barrage structural stability. Although elevated water levels may permit enhanced abstraction for irrigation and domestic uses, future increases in hydropower generation are limited by existing infrastructure. The higher water levels are likely to exacerbate existing ecological deterioration within the lake as well as enhancing problems of flooding of lakeside communities.

Resumen
Loktak, one of the largest freshwater lakes of India, is known for floating islands (Phumdi), being made up of a heterogeneous biomass of vegetation and soil. This ecological site represents an exclusive environmental habitat wherein the rhizospheric microbial community of Phumdi plays a key role in biogeochemical cycling of nutrients. A culture-independent whole genome shotgun sequencing based metagenomic approach was employed to unravel the composition of the microbial community and its corresponding functional potential at this environmental habitat. Proteobacteria (51%) was found to be the most dominant bacterial phylum followed by Acidobacteria (10%), Actinobacteria (9%) and Bacteroidetes (7%). Furthermore, Loktak metagenome data were compared with available metagenomes from four other aquatic habitats, varying from pristine to highly polluted eutrophic habitats. The comparative metagenomics approach aided by statistical analysis revealed that Candidatus Solibacter, Bradyrhizobium, Candidatus Koribacter, Pedosphaera, Methylobacterium, Anaeromyxobacter, Sorangium, Opitutus and Acidobacterium genera are selectively dominant at this habitat. Correspondingly, 12 different functional categories were found to be exclusively prevalent at Phumdi compared to other freshwater habitats. These differential features have been attributed to the unique habitat at Phumdi and correlated to the phenomenon of bioremediation at Loktak Lake.

Resumen
Loktak is the largest natural freshwater lake in the North-Eastern region of India playing an important role in the ecological and economic security of the region. It is also known for “Phumdi,” a heterogeneous mass of soil, vegetation and organic matter at various stages of decomposition. For the fishing purposes, local communities make a ring with “Phumdi” mass called “Athaphum” measuring 500 ft in diameter, a traditional practice popular since last 200 years. It is further interesting to report that these also harbor a rich flora of medicinal herbs. Keeping the importance of its medicinal wealth, an attempt was made to survey 20 different “Athaphum” of the lake to explore and document the diversity of medicinal plants of the fresh water lake. Extensive floristic survey in the study area revealed the occurrence of over 89 plant species in and around “Athaphum” and “Phumdis.” Among them, five plants (Blumea mollis, Ludwigia repens, Rumex nepalensis, Oenanthe javanica, and Carex riparia) were selected for phytochemical screening to validate their therapeutic claims. All the selected plants were found to be enriched with phenolic compounds. On the basis of their ethnobotanical claims and results of phytochemical analysis, R. nepalensis and O. javanica could be recommended as potential nutraceutical for being a popular food plant among the local inhabitants.

Resumen
Loktak Lake is an internationally important wetland in northeast India that provides valuable goods and services to local communities as well as supporting high biodiversity. Over the last three decades ecological modifications have occurred, most notably due to the construction and operation of the Ithai Barrage. The focus on maximising hydropower generation increased mean lake water levels and reduced their annual variability. This thesis synthesises hydrometeorological and related data for the lake and its catchment. Data are employed in coupled hydrological / hydraulic catchment models (MIKE SHE / MIKE 11) of three gauged sub-catchments, which are calibrated / validated using observed discharges. Results are used to estimate ungauged sub-catchment flows. Catchment model results are combined with meteorological data and current abstractions within a water balance model which successfully simulates observed lake water levels. A series of barrage operation options are developed using the water balance model which prioritise the requirements of major stakeholders (hydropower, agriculture, and the lake ecosystem). A final option is developed, which shows that it is possible to balance the demands of these stakeholders. The implications of climate change are assessed by forcing meteorological inputs to the catchment and water balance models based upon a number of climate scenarios. In the majority of these scenarios, river inflows increase resulting in higher lake water levels that could further exacerbate ecological degradation of the lake as well as enhancing flooding of lakeside communities. The elevated water levels may permit additional irrigation abstractions however existing infrastructure limits increases in hydropower generation. The sustainability of the barrage operation options in the face of climate change is assessed. Results suggest that climate change is likely to limit the ability of barrage management to satisfy hydropower and agricultural demands whilst at the same time establishing a more ecologically appropriate lake water level regime.

Det finns farhågor att den ökade ägarkoncentrationen i mediebranschen gällande lokaladagstidningar riskerar att påverka innehållet för dess läsare. Allt mer material hämtas från externaaktörer, såsom nyhetsbyråer och kommunikationsavdelningar. I kombination med den digitalautvecklingen har detta inneburit förändringar för de etablerade mediehusen. Genom att undersökatvå lokala dagstidningar kopplade till Stampen media, ville jag undersöka om detta har påverkattidningens lokala prägel. Stampen media köpte dels upp flera lokala tidningar i början av 2000-talet,dels blev Stampen media själva uppköpta för något år sedan.Sveriges riksdag beslutade om ett nytt presstöd 2018, vilket skall stärka den lokala journalistiken.Detta i kombination med att en entydig forskning som visar på att den lokala tidningen har en viktigroll att spela när det kommer till demokrati och att skapa samhällsengagemang, visar på vikten avlokala tidningar.Den kvantitativa innehållsanalysen visar på att den lokala prägeln inte har minskat i någon störreomfattning. Tendensen för Hallands Nyheter är mer negativ, än för Hallandsposten. Vidare visarresultaten på ett fokus på centralorterna i tidningarnas utgivningsområden. Det som framkommer äratt tidningens material har minskat betydligt och vad detta kan ha för betydelse för tidningens lokalaprägel i framtiden, får framtiden utvisa.

This report is the result of a project work carried out at Karlstad University in conjunctionwith the local consulting firm Camatec where most of the work has been performed.The work can be classified as a classic engineering work with supportive theories andcalculations which in this context is relevant.The engineering project has focused on developing new standards for a conveyor that is usedin the Värmland paper industry where large rolls of paper are produced. A conveyor can takeits appearance in many different forms but in this thesis it has been an exemplary look and ithas also become modulatable with a central section, a drive end and a turning end.The construction work has been build under CAD programs such as Pro Engineer, drawingshave been created and costings have been analyzed. Strength calculations have been made andcooperation from several different companies have erected to explore different solutions andideas for a modern and sustainable conveyor.

Resumen

This thesis deals with local identity and the workplace. We have taken part of stories dealing with local identity and the workplace, by using a qualitative method. We interviewed eleven men working at the same company. The group contained of men from urban areas as well as rural areas. The data from our interviews have been applied to theories of local identity and social theories by sociologists such as Durkheim, Simmel and Tönnies.

We asked questions regarding local identity and its influence in the workplace. We found our respondents expressing a sense of home and local identity, however it was not a decisive aspect in the recruitment process.

Tulisan ini mejelaskan kondisi sosial-budaya dan politik di Pulau Biak, pemetaan terhadap elit politik lokal, dan mengidentifikasi karakteristiknya untuk dihubungkan pengaruhnya terhadap rencana pembangunan bandar antariksa. Metodologi yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan studi literatur dan wawancara. Masyarakat di Pulau Biak masih menjunjung nilai adat istiadat, serta banyak elit politik lokal yang memiliki posisi kuat dalam mempengaruhi kebijakan daerah. Berkaitan dengan rencana pembangunan bandar antariksa maka pertanyaan pokok yang akan dijawab dalam artikel ini adalah: Bagaimana Karakteristik Elit Politik Lokal di Pulau Biak dan Sejauh mana Pengaruhnya Terhadap Rencana Pembangunan Bandar Antariksa? Elit politik di Biak tercipta dari kehidupan adat istiadat serta adanya Otonomi Khusus Papua. Elit politik lokal di Pulau Biak dipetakan menjadi 2 kelompok menggunakan teori Pareto, yaitu governing elite dan non-governing elite. Governing elit cenderung berkarakter pro pada rencana pembangunan bandar antariksa, sedangkan nongoverning elite kontra terhadap rencana pembangunan bandar antariksa di Biak. Elit politik lokal di Biak menjadi poin penting dalam mendukung keberlanjutan rencana pembangunan bandar antariksa yang harus diperhatikan. Sehingga rekomendasi dari tulisan ini adalah pentingnya dialog sektoral inklusif diantara elit politik lokal di Biak sebagai langkah optimalisasi peran elit politik lokal Biak dalam proses pembangunan bandar antariksa ke depan. Selain itu rencana pembangunan bandar antariksa juga harus memperhatikan kearifan lokal di Biak sebagai upaya meminimalkan potensi cost and conflict yang akan terjadi.

Bebao House dirancang untuk memenuhi kebutuhan baru tentang fasilitas pariwisata di pulau Lombok. Momentum ini bisa dimanfaatkan untuk memelihara dan menggali kembali keterampilan lokal yang ada. Perancangan Bebao House ini bertujuan untuk merespon kebutuhan rumah penginapan yang dapat dibangun dengan cepat pasca gempa bumi yang terjadi di wilayah Lombok, sebagai sarana penunjang untuk membantu kebangkitan kembali pariwisata di Lombok. Harapannya, Bebao House ini dapat berkontribusi menjadi salah satu solusi yang tepat terhadap persoalan tersebut. Bebao House dikerjakan bersama dengan komunitas dan menyesuaikan dengan skill set yang ada di sana, Bebao House didesain dengan sederhana, menggunakan teknik knock down sehingga dapat dibongkar pasang dengan mudah dan konstruksi yang modular/ prefabrikasi. Semua sistemnya menggunakan sistem sambungan tanpa paku sehingga memungkinkan bangunan bergoyang ketika terjadi gempa. Hal ini merupakan bentuk respon Bebao House terhadap kebutuhan dan juga alam. Bebao House juga diharapkan dapat menjadi trigger untuk membangkitkan lagi semangat untuk melakukan kegiatan ‘membuat’ dan dapat mempengaruhi generasi muda untuk dapat belajar tentang keterampilan dan ketukangan lokal. Artikel ini membahas pertanyaan mengapa penyebaran Protestanisme di kalangan orang Sunda yang dilakukan oleh kelompok Anthing dianggap lebih berhasil jika dibandingkan dengan usaha yang dilakukan oleh para zending NZV? Dengan menggunakan metode sejarah didapat beberapa kesimpulan: (1) Dalam proses penyebaran Protestanisme di Sunda yang dilakukan baik oleh kelompok Anthing maupun oleh para zendeling NZV terjadi akulturasi antara budaya Eropa dengan budaya lokal. Proses akulturasi yang dilakukan dengan damai akan lebih berhasil jika dibandingkan dengan proses akulturasi dengan pemaksaan (akulturasi ekstrim). (2) Kelompok Anthing melakukan penyebaran Protestanisme dengan menerapkan akulturasi damai yaitu menyesuaikan dengan budaya lokal sehingga didirkan beberapa komunitas Kristen di sekitar Batavia. (3) Zendeling NZV sebaliknya cenderung memaksakan (akulturasi ekstrim) budaya Barat pada masyarakat Sunda sehingga terjadi penolakan terhadap Protestanisme.

Sebagai negara kepulauan (13.446 pulau) dan memiliki panjang garis pantainya nomor dua di dunia setelah Kanada atau 99.093 kilometer atau, diperkirakan 60% dari penduduk Indonesia hidup dan tinggal di wilayah pesisir. Dewasa ini terdapat 16 proyek reklamasi pantai di seluruh wilayah Indonesia, namun pengembangan reklamasi di Indonesia ini harus berhadapan dengan masyarakat nelayan yang sudah menghuni dalam waktu yang lama di kawasan pesisir tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendiskusikan masalah pengembangan lingkungan binaan yang dilakukan di wilayah pesisir di Indonesia. Dengan mengambil tiga wilayah yaitu Jakarta, Makassar dan Bali, peneltian ini dilakukan dengan studi pustaka melalui scholar.google.com dan studi media, penelitian ini menemukan tidak adanya keterlibatan masyarakat lokal pada pengembangan reklamasi. Die Darmstädter Städteforschung nimmt nicht den Blickwinkel ein, dass die Stadt ausschließlich eine Schaubühne allgemeiner gesellschaftlicher Prozesse sei, die aufgrund ihrer Verdichtung in der Stadt hier besonders augenfällig und besser zu analysieren seien, sondern stellt das Charakteristische einzelner Städte, ihre Individualität in den Mittelpunkt ihrer Untersuchungen (s. z.B. Berking/Löw 2008). Daraus könnte in einer weiteren Phase eine Systematik von Städte- ‚Charakteren‘ entstehen. Die aus Innen- wie Außensicht evidenten Differenzen zwischen Städten gehen zurück auf vielfältige lokal vorfindbare Prägungen materieller, sozialer und kultureller Art. Sie manifestieren sich im äußeren Erscheinungsbild, aber auch in Kultur und Mentalität der jeweiligen Stadt. „Städtische Eigenlogik bezeichnet die dauerhaften Dispositionen, die an die Sozialität und Materialität von Städten gebunden sind, und konstituiert sich in einem relationalen System globaler, lokaler und nationaler Bezüge“ (Löw 2008a: 49). Das Konzept zielt also auf die Frage, wie eine Stadt „tickt“, wie sie sich in ihren Wahrnehmungs- und Handlungsmustern von einer anderen Stadt unterscheidet (s.a. FGB 2010). Für die beteiligten Forscher stellt sich die Frage, wie die eigensinnige, lokal spezifische Wirklichkeit dieser Stadt im Unterschied zu jener Stadt theoretisch und empirisch erfasst werden kann. Als grundlegender Untersuchungsschritt bietet sich der Städtevergleich an, weil Unterschiede zwischen Städten hier am klarsten sichtbar und damit für die wissenschaftliche Erforschung operationalisierbar werden. „Das Eigene der Städte entwickelt sich sowohl aufgrund historisch motivierter Erzählungen und Erfahrungen als auch im relationalen Vergleich zu formgleichen Gebilden, das heißt zu anderen Städten. Städtische Eigenlogik betont sowohl die eigensinnige Entwicklung einer Stadt als auch deren daraus resultierende kreative Kraft der Strukturierung von Praxis“ (LÖW 2008a: 43). Die Logik einer Stadt wird also in anderen Städten mitgeformt, sie ist ein „ortsbezogener Prozess, der nicht nur an einem Ort stattfindet“ (Löw 2008b: 100) und erfordert daher ein komparatives Forschungsdesign, da das Eigene nur in der Differenz erkannt werden kann (Frank 2010: 14f)“FGB 2010.
