The article is dedicated to the study of the intermedial codes in the fantastic works written by the Bulgarian writers of the 20th-21st centuries. Intermediality as a form of interconnectedness of different types of art is challenging for literature research. The aim of the article is to study the interaction of verbal and audio (music), verbal and visual (pictorial art, architectural models), verbal and performing/synthetic (cinema, theatre) arts. The object of the research is the Bulgarian fantastic literature of the 20th-21st centuries, where the subject is codes of intermediality. The method of intermedial studies proves to be fruitful for this type of research work. As a result, it is stated that the variants of ekphrasis (picture-ekphrasis, urboekphrasis, oikoekphrasis, musical ekphrasis), “ekphrastic transition” and the interaction of verbal and audio, verbal and visual, verbal and synthetic arts are implemented in the Bulgarian fantastic literature of the 20th-21st centuries.

The article discusses the genre of hagiography and changes in the hagiographic composition of the lives of saints of the 20th century. It is indicated that a distinctive feature of the “new” hagiographies is not only the exact indication of the year and place of birth of the saint, but also the inclusion in the text of interrogation reports, excerpts from diaries, letters, and photographs too. The genre of biographies of Russian martyrs and confessors, canonized at the turn of the 20th–21st centuries, is analysed.

Resumen
The research examines, theoretically and historically and literarily, the modern French novel of the late 20th and early 21st centuries as the “main genre” of fiction; characteristics of the functioning of novelistic genres in a period of transition; new forms of novelistic thought, new artistic strategies and aesthetic experiences of the French novel. In the French literature of the last decades, the interest in the specificities of the new novelistic form has increased. There were essays, monographs, and articles on the modern novel, but there are no systemic and holistic studies that detail the functioning of the novel form in contemporary times. In domestic literature, the French novel of the early 20th century, 50-80s, has been studied quite deeply, but the literature of the late 20th and early 21st centuries has still been analyzed too little.

The article analyzes and systematizes results of Russian research in German and Russian Expressionism for the past 17 years. The focus of the author are both great collective research projects on history and theory of Russian and German literature, which includes Expressionism as an integral part of the literary process, and individual studies of literary critics and linguists. The geography of Russian study of Expressionism covers research centers in Universities of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Nizhni Novgorod, Chelyabinsk, Samara and in Austrian libraries (Yekaterinburg, Nizhni Novgorod). The research has four main directions. The first, the most traditional, focuses its forces on the study of new literary material and personalities, unknown literary texts and historical and literary facts. The second direction works with well-known texts, but operates with the latest scientific tools and provides a different understanding of the known material. The third direction is interdisciplinary and uses synthetic methods. The fourth is the comparative and typological direction, an important part of which is translation theory and practice.

Resumen
The article analyses the state of Chuvash prose in the mid-1980s – the first decade of the 21st century. In the course of the study, it was found that at this stage there is an intense search for modern landmarks, new forms and content in the Chuvash artistic literature. The following significant changes were revealed in the national prose – topics previously hushed up (social bottom, Stalinism, abuse in the Soviet army and the Afghan War) went public and new genre varieties (erotic, mystical, intelligent works) appeared; the possibilities and range of traditional literature expanded (lyrical-philosophical, lyrical-psychological, women's prose developed, psychologism deepened); literature with a complicated form of writing (postmodern works) has appeared recently; there has been an increased interest in the Chuvash national (history, mythology), etc. The author of the article comes to the conclusion that the turn of the 20th-21st centuries in the national Chuvash literature there has been a kind of transition period, during which the features of new prose, free from the previous ideology, are determined.

Texto completo
Resumen
The article studies the transformation of motives of religious drama in the literature of the 20th-21st centuries from the point of view of religious philosophy, namely the neo-Thomism paradigm. The concept of transformation is interpreted as a transition to the use of meaning-generating models close to drama as a kind of literature in the context of the visual turn in the culture of the 20th-21st centuries. The actualization of action as a form-creating means along with the explicit or implicit accentuation of the integrity of the world picture is interpreted as a search for metaphysical grounds for the aesthetic systems of modernism and postmodernism and the poetics of individual authors and their works. The article substantiates the philosophical aspect of the interpretation of religious drama accepted in scientific literature as a metagenre for the literature of the 20th-21st centuries. The study outlines the universal character of generic methods and means of expressiveness of religious drama for literature in the conditions of the visual turn. The aesthetics of literature between phenomenological and metaphysical approaches to human action may be inclined to the fluctuation (metaxis) between them, which conditions the stylistic and genre openness of religious drama. In this context, its elements are used both in traditional genres and to rethink the genre and stylistic boundaries of the representation of human action in art in general and in literature in particular. Motives of religious drama (journey, overcoming obstacles, battle, feat as a leap of faith, love, despair, hatred, boredom as existential aspects of the human condition, service, sacrifice) in the works of P. Claudel, H. Chubai and D. Barthelmy are presented with significant differences, but with the preservation of paradigmatic features – symbolism and metaphysics as an indication of the ultimate integrity, unattainable neither rationally nor sensually. The universalism of the motives of religious drama is interpreted as the present ambivalence, which brings together high and low, profane and sacred, parody and grotesque with pathos, etc.

The article deals with the reception of L.N. Gumilev's views in the Russian literature of the 20th-21st centuries. The relevance of the study is due to the wide spread of Gumilev's views in the post-Soviet space and the presence of a wide creative reception of them in fiction. The article makes a conclusion about the variability of the creative reception of the views of Gumilev in historical novelism: schematic with the updating of history and the acceptance as a philosophy of history, when the author, avoids updating history, using Gumilev's concept to convey the dynamics of the historical process.

The article shows how Polish writers at the turn of the 20th and the 21st centuries problematized the subject of the political transformation and – more broadly – of the country’s social reality after 1989. The category of purifi cation, which is key to the entire argument, refers in the above-outlined context to the tendency to reject and purify the most disappointing manifestations of the social reality of regained independence. This issue is presented within the framework of the Hegelian approach to the problem of freedom, the psychoanalytic theory of melancholy, and the diagnoses formulated by Jean Baudrillard and Alain Badiou.

Resumen
The paper is a review of scientific literature on the issues of the history and modern development of the abroad Russian schools, published in Russia mainly during the previous five years. The author considers several main historiographic complexes: generalizing studies in the field of the history of the Russian abroad in the 20th – 21st centuries, which touch upon the topic of education and upbringing; works on the history of education and pedagogy of Russian emigration in the 1920s – 1980s; publications on the formation and development of the Russian school abroad in the post-Soviet period. To date, the world of education and enlightenment of the Russian post-revolutionary emigration of the 1920s – 1940s in Europe and China has been most deeply studied. To a much lesser extent, the topic of the abroad Russian schools in the second half of the 20th – early 21st centuries is reflected in the scientific literature, including the development of education in Russian in the post-Soviet states. The article notes the demand for studying the issues of the Russian school abroad in the humanitarian scientific community of Russia, which is due to the influence of geopolitical processes in the early 2020s on the world of the Russian abroad, including its educational institutions, and the state policy of the Russian Federation in the field of supporting the Russian school abroad. Following the review a conclusion is made that there is a significant potential for scientific research of the Russian school abroad in the period of the second half of the 20th – early 21st century.

Resumen
The aim of the research is to describe the disruption of the relatively stable usual-stylistic norm of Russian-language translated literature in the translations of the 1990s to the 2000s on the example of substandard vocabulary. The scientific novelty of the study lies in generalizing the practices of using youth slang, criminal jargon, as well as the mixing of different types of substandard vocabulary within one fragment in Russian-language translations at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. This trend was conditioned, on the one hand, by the changes in the language practices of various society spheres and the penetration of uncodified reduced vocabulary into the language of the original literature and mass media, and on the other hand, by the removing of restrictions associated with the selection of works for translation. The obtained results have shown that translations from the analyzed period are characterized by a general register reduction, unmotivated use of substandard vocabulary, and the mixing of vocabulary of different styles. This vocabulary is used in various speech situations and represents different social groups. As a consequence of these practices, there has been a shift in the pragmatic and stylistic characteristics of the translated texts.

Resumen
The article deals with the problems of studying the dacha as a special kind of artistic space in Russian literature of the 19th–21st centuries. The author of the article analyses dacha against the background of a much better studied “literary estate,” discusses and clarifies the concepts of “dacha culture,” “dacha text,” “dacha topos,” introduces into scientific circulation, shows relationship and dynamics of the terms “literary dacha,” “poetosphere of dacha,” “dacha myth.” The article lists main constitutive differences between the toposes of estate and dacha formed in the 19th and early 20th centuries. In Soviet time, due to the disappearance of the owner’s estate, a number of its functions (unity of nature and culture, storage of family and ancestral memory, etc.) passed to the dacha. Already since the 1920s, the “poetosphere of dacha” has been formed, largely due to the atmosphere of writers’ country villages (Tarusa, Peredelkino, Komarovo, etc.), which have become specific toposes of artistic creativity. In the 1960– 1980s — the period of mass dacha construction in the USSR — the “dacha culture” is enriched either by the romance of individual enterprise, or by the excitement of esoteric search. The literature of the turn of the 20th–21st centuries formed “dacha myth,” which has absorbed the antinomic connotations of the decentered worldview of modernity. For the purpose of scientific development of the phenomenon of literary dacha, the article sets the task of forming a research thesaurus as relevant to the subject of the study of the categories’ system.

Resumen
The author of the review analyzes the monograph by M.M. Golubkov, a well-known expert in Russian literature of the 20th century, Professor, Head of the Department of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. This book falls into three parts. The first deals with the relevance of Russian classics of the 20th century, the reasons for its “expulsion” from university and school literature programs, and the didactic potential that is ignored in the era of the Unified State Examination. The second part is devoted to one of the most urgent problems of modern historical and literary science – the problem of periodization. The third chapter of the monograph is a purely analytical one, which presents rather unexpected “rapprochements” of some key people in the latest Russian prose: Gorky and Solzhenitsyn, Solzhenitsyn and Polyakov, etc. From the point of view of the author of the review, the new book by M.M. Golubkov may be of interest not only to university teachers, but also to school teachers of Russian literature of the 20th and early 21st centuries.

Resumen
Literature written in the Breton language in the 20th and 21st centuries presents something of a paradox in that although the number of Breton speakers has continued to decrease throughout the 20th century and in the first decades of the 21st century (Broudic 2009), the number of works published per year has remained at a relatively stable level (Thomas 2014) and even appears to be increasing. This can be seen in the diversity of audiences targeted and genres covered, and in the increased visibility that Breton language books have received in libraries, multimedia resource centres and at book fairs in the last twenty years (Rouxel 2021). The practice of translating treasures of world literature into Breton has also gained momentum. In order to understand the reasons for this apparent paradox, it is necessary to consider the way in which Breton-language literature is perceived in a more global context of language promotion. The initial paradox can be explained in part as follows: if the volume of literary output in the Breton language is not correlated to changes in the size of its readership, it is because the readership in question is far from homogenous and, moreover, because literary output needs to be placed in a context of language promotion.

Resumen
The article analyses the imagery of John Bunyan’s allegorical treatise The Pilgrim’s Progress, which belongs to the most important works of both English and world culture, and its visual embodiment tradition. The illustration series for Bunyan’s book were created almost immediately after its first publication in 1678. The study shows that even the early illustrations for The Pilgrim’s Progress can be characterized as creolized texts, since they form a single complex with accompanying texts. Stable images associated with one or another episode of the book, are formed already at the end of the 17th century. They are used in illustrated books and comics in the 20th–21st centuries. Each of the images is the result of the development or revision of a long pictorial tradition. Although each image is based on the corresponding fragment of the book, its specific realizations reflect both the artist’s ideas and a certain artistic style of the time. As the language of culture underwent a global change at the turn of the 18th–19th centuries, the illustrations for The Pilgrim’s Progress gradually became more realistic, allegorism in them receded into the background. The artists of the 20th–21st centuries turned to new forms of material presentation, that is to illustrated books and comics. The illustrations accompanying the text of Bunyan’s book become allegorical again but on a different level, consistent with the perception of the modern readership.

Resumen
The article highlights the stages of literary and critical reception of the doctor’s image presented in Russian prose in the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. The work is novel in that it is the first to consider and systematize different points of view of critics and literary scholars on the nature of the doctor’s artistic image, on the doctor’s place in the cultural and historical space of Russia. The research aims to identify the key trends in the reception of the doctor’s image in Russian criticism and literary studies in the 20th and 21st centuries. As a result, it is found that while the thinkers of the 19th century highlight characterological features of a doctor character such as inner freedom, thirst for knowledge and empiricism of thinking inherent in the new generation, the critics and literary scholars of the early 20th century consider a doctor character in the context of the era of scientific discovery. During the period of totalitarianism, the hero is evaluated in terms of having “obligatory” qualities and his involvement with socialism and its achievements. Since the late 1980s, a doctor character has been analyzed from the position of his belonging to the intelligentsia, whose representatives are characterized by internal contradictions. The studies of the early 21st century attempt to reinterpret traditional renderings of Russian classical literature, outline new approaches to the analysis of a literary image: a doctor character is presented as a bearer of the highest spiritual value, a way to transmit hidden meanings.

Resumen
Can Xue is a representative of Chinese women's literature of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Her works are one of the most interesting literary phenomena. The author discusses the poetics of the “anti-aesthetics” in Can Xue’s works, based on the violation of classical aesthetic norms. To achieve a new aesthetic impact, Can Xue employs such artistic means as fantasy, metaphor, symbol, synesthesia in a new way. Possessing a rich and unbridled imagination, the writer strives to depict something that exists “in the zone of non-existence.” Besides, Can Xue creates anti-aesthetic, ugly, incomprehensible, and metaphorical images, invents illogical dialogues, refers to the phenomena of the interweaving of dreams and reality, peeping, etc. It is concluded that Can Xue breaks the frame of traditional aesthetic, seeks ugly, irrational, and unacceptable to popular standards of beauty. But despite all the ugliness, she draws attention to the hidden depths of human consciousness and soul, shows another truth of life. An analysis of the poetics of Can Xue allows a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the writings of Chinese authors of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Aspectual verb forms in directive utterances (12th‒21th centuries) It is described the use of Spanish aspectual verbal constructions in directive utterances between the 12th and 21st centuries. It is argued that, in addition to their aspectual values, these constructions fulfil some pragmatic functions in formal registers, especially some politeness verbal strategies in legal and administrative discourse, as well as the expression of instructions in procedural discourse. Some other illocutionary functions are found in dialogue. These non aspectual functions are documented from classical Spanish to the 20th century.

Resumen
Over the previous years of the 20th and 21st centuries, there has been a progression in the field of bonded esthetic restorations. At the present time, the inclination of dentists toward the smart monochromatic shade of composite is flourishing owing to the fact that it decreases the requirement of a range of composite shades, curtails the waste of unconsumed composite shades, lessens chair side interval, abolishes the shade selection, and decreases dependency on shade-selecting methods. Smart monochromatic composite is known to obtain the color of the adjacent tooth structure in which it is placed. Therefore, the current literature elucidates the several features of innovative and revolutionary monochromatic composites including color stability, mechanical and optical properties, and shade-matching capability that could have a positive impact potentially over other resin composites.

Resumen
The article reflects the current trends in working with the digital heritage of Russian literature, examines the process of forming virtual archives as a gradual accumulation of the “big data” of scientific research, i. e. unrecognized information array of raster documents containing tens of thousands of images. The research analyzes the specifics of scientific work in the field of ego-documentary heritage that arose at the turn of the 20th – 21st centuries (a corpus of diary entries, workbooks, notebooks, correspondence), the principles of publication and modern standards of digitization of archival heritage. The study and practicing of the three most promising virtual resources on the history of Russian literature of the mid-19th – first half of the 20th centuries allows to formulate specific tasks and methods of visualization of a large corpus of raster images of archival documents, as well as previously untapped possibilities of search engine automation. Much attention is paid to the transition from the graphical elements of the raster image of the manuscript to semantic ones, which allow the use of data mining elements for an unrecognized data array.

Resumen
There are two problems discussed in the article. The first one is the phenomenon of mass literature and semiotic approach to it. According to Lotman, mass literature of the 20th (and 21st) centuries is not so much an object of semiotics as of sociology. However, it is possible to consider mass literature of earlier times as an object of semiotics of culture. Lotman discusses Russian mass literature of the 18th and 19th centuries as such an object in the article “Massovaya literatura kak istoriko-kulturnaya problema”. Considering mass literature a dynamic factor of the semiotic system, Lotman distinguishes its main features: a high degree of automatization and syndrome of retardedness. In the second part of the article the author discusses the phenomenon of mass poetry in contemporary Lithuania. This kind of mass literature is much more similar to the phenomenon discussed by Lotman than to the mass literature of the postmodernist epoch. Lithuanian mass poetry employs the codes of national romanticism (the end of 19th century) and considers itself an ignored part of high culture. This sort of poetry unknown to Western societies exhibits archaising tendencies in the modern postsoviet culture.

Resumen
The article reveals the historical transformations of Chinese poetry, namely the changes in lyrical genres from the Archaic period of “Fu” (“赋”) invariants and early authors’ poetry to the genre varieties of contemporary (modern) poetry “新诗” of the 20th–21st centuries. In the review we briefly name the key oriental researchers who made a great contribution to the studies of oriental literature based on authentic texts. The article tells how the key archaic genres, such as “Fu” (“赋”), “Shi” (“诗”), “Qi” (“词”) and “Qu” (“曲”) were the grass roots of the differentiation of lyrical genres. In this context we name the pristine origins of the early lyrical genres, returning the reader back to 《诗经》. We give the names of the founding fathers and representatives of each genre, providing examples of the most brilliant poetry, written within the early and classical literary periods. In the article we try to systematize the knowledge available on the topic, comparing the Eastern and the Western tradition of lyrical writing. We aim to show how archaic Chinese poetry came out of prose, transformed in time over more than 2000 years, and lost its primeval classical and traditional Chinese style, but preserved the unique code of the nation and almost returned to prose in the 20th–21st centuries.

Resumen
The subject of this article is the music making during the Catholic Church feasts and its development since the Christianization of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania until nowadays, with special emphasis on the music making tradition of the 20th–21st centuries. Following the spread of Christianity, the tradition of the religious feasts was quick to catch on, along with its peculiar Western European customs and culture of the musical styling. According to the historical sources, as early as in the end of the 14th century (that is, barely ten years after the official Christianization) the wind and percussion instruments were played in the Vilnius Cathedral. The academic wind and percussion instruments, having been since ancient times used in the army of various European countries, including the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, became adapted by the musical culture of the manors and dioceses, finding their use during pilgrimages, celebratory processions, services, etc. During the Renaissance and Baroque periods, an especially important social and cultural role was played by the Vilnius Academy, established by the Jesuits, at which also instruction in music was offered. The Jesuits organized particularly pompous processions of the Corpus Christi, which included theatrical performances, participation of numerous musicians and singers, firing guns, etc. According to the archived data, during the Baroque times the majority of the churches or the affiliated brethrens used to possess both the brass and the percussion instruments: usually – two or more trumpets, French horns, and kettledrums. These instruments were regarded necessary in order to celebrate the titular feasts of the parish in the appropriate way, that is, with musical accompaniment, or to travel likewise to the festivities held in the neighborhood. Thus the folk piety tradition of the brass bands got shaped, which, having already disappeared in other Lithuanian regions, continues to live on in Samogitia in the 20th–21st century. It is particularly important in relation to the rituals of visiting the Samogitian Calvary (Žemaičių Kalvarija) – a variety of the popular baroque European tradition of the Way of the Cross (Via Crucis), the first one of which in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was established in Samogitia. Quite likely, these Stations of the Cross since their very establishment used to be visited ceremoniously, including singing and the appropriate accompaniment by wind instruments and kettledrums. This tradition survived in spite of being prohibited both during the tsarist Russian oppression and during the Soviet atheism periods. During the Soviet occupation the musicians, although being harassed or even arrested, still used to go to play at the religious feasts, thus expressing not only their devotion, but also their protest against the regime of the religious oppression. After Lithuania regained its independence in the end of the 20th century, the new kind of worshipers who had been brought up unaware of the traditional Calvary Hymns singing started the new way of singing accompanied by kanklės (Lithuanian cithertype instrument) and guitars. Still, in spite of this wave of musical pluralism, the brass bands preserved their positions. Until the present day, worshipers visiting the Stations of the Cross at the Samogitian Calvary are accompanied by the musicians playing the brass instruments, who are traditionally rewarded with money. Depending on the particular worshipers’ needs, three kinds of functions performed by the musicians can be discerned: firstly, the group of 4 to 6 musicians may only play; secondly, 2 to 5 musicians lead the prayers both singing and playing; and thirdly (a medium variant), the group of 4 to 6 musicians both plays and sings. The analysis presented in the article allows maintaining that prior to becoming part of the wedding, christening and funeral rituals of the village people, brass instruments had already become an integral part of the musical expression of the exceptional solemnity of folk piety.

In the 20th and the 21st centuries, many writers have shown an interest in rewriting traditional fairy tales. In contemporary literature, fairy tales are thus reinvented, adapted to the historical reality, the vices, the weaknesses and the imperfections of contemporary human beings. This study analyses the reinvention of the fairy tale’s heroine in Barbe bleue, by French writer Amélie Nothomb, and published in 2012. This study will show how the rewriting of this millenary text questions the schematic and stereotyped relations between characters in traditional fairy tales.

Resumen
Introduction. The research aims to trace the way of nascency and formation of a cult of book as a unique phenomenon in the Russian culture during the 18th –20th centuries, and identify the reasons and factors that determined the high status of literature in Russian society, its role in the development of national identity; contributed to the fact that the book became not only and not so much a way of leisure for Russian citizens, but a cultural need. Materials and methods. The study is based on the methods of historical and comparative analysis, generalization and synthesis. It also employs the method of actualization, which makes it possible to focus attention on the facts, events, phenomena, observations, ideas and conclusions that are supposed to be of scientifi c and pedagogical value for understanding the role of book, reading, and culture by the people of modern Russia and Literature as an academic discipline in the 21st century’s school education. A versatile approach to comprehending the long-term historical establishment of a cult of books and reading in Russian culture of the 18th-20th centuries made it possible to objectify the results of the study. Results of study. The multidimensional analysis of the emergence and formation of the “cult of book”, i.e., the cult of reading in Russian society, since the time of Ancient Russia, has covered a variety of aspects of understating this phenomenon, including philosophy; culture; literature as a part of culture and a type of art, as exponent of public and national identity; literature as an academic subject in the school system; psychology of “book reading”; book and its place in spiritual life of the Russian people in different epochs, including the current state of Russian society; journalism and book publishing, etc. Findings of the study indicate that the long-lasting book cult phenomenon in Russian culture is due to a consistent and verify ed system of creating a personality, upbringing a reader, familiarizing with reading, which embraces all social and moral institutes (family, school, culture, society, and the State). Conclusion. The study has sharpened the issue of reading books, their place and role in modern digital society, which has become particularly relevant in the 21st century. It is obvious that only a systems approach to addressing this issue, which requires joint eff orts of all the institutes mentioned, can provide positive results if we do not want to lose the readers already in their early childhood.

Resumen
The article is the second part of the study, which examines the issues related to the study of the history of population and historical demography of Kyrgyzstan. The emphasis is made on the issues of historiography on the basis of scientific literature on the history and demography of Kyrgyzstan in the 20th — 21st centuries. The analysis and assessment of the main demographic indicators of the population of Kyrgyzstan in the Soviet and post-Soviet periods is considered, the processes of change in demographic policy, as well as its impact on the socio-economic situation in the republic, are analyzed.
