Resumen
Barium sulfate (BaSO4) is a material with high reflectance for preparing bifunctional sheets used in dry reagent chemical tests. In this study, bifunctional BaSO4 sheets with scattering power and high reflectance were prepared with BaSO4 microspheres sized 1.3~1.8 μm and cellulose acetate (CA). Factors such as the BaSO4 morphology, CA dosage, mixing time, surfactant, solid content and wet sheet thickness were investigated. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), a dynamic contact angle test, light reflection detector and light reflection densitometer were employed to characterize the structure and properties of bifunctional BaSO4 sheets. The optimal conditions for preparing bifunctional BaSO4 sheets under natural drying conditions were as follows: mass ratio of CA to BaSO4 microspheres was 0.03:1; mixing acetone solution was used to form liquid stock puree; 35 μL Tween-80 was used to improve the hydrophilicity of bifunctional sheets; solid content was 54.9%; mixing 2 h then 450 µm thick sheets were cast on a glass plate using a film applicator. The light reflectance value of bifunctional BaSO4 sheets in the range of 400~800 nm was higher than 97%. Serum diffused in bifunctional BaSO4 sheets reacted in reagent sheets and formed uniform colorful spots. Considering the repeatability of spot proportion and light reflectance value, the sheet offered a uniform serum scattering power and good repeatability. Therefore, the bifunctional BaSO4 sheets are regarded as a promising material for dry chemical diagnostic reagents.

Resumen
Light sheet microscopy has emerged as a powerful technique for three-dimensional and long-term vivo imaging within neuroscience and developmental biology. A light sheet illumination with structured light fields allows a better tradeoff between the field of view and axial resolution but suffers from strong side lobes. Here, we propose a method of producing structured light sheet illumination with suppressed side lobes by applying the superposition of two light sheets. The side lobe suppression results from the destructive interference between the side lobes and constructive interference between the main lobe of the two light sheets. In the proposed method, the incident light pattern in the rear pupil plane of the illumination objective is a combination of the incident light line beams required for the generation of the two interfering light sheets. We present a fast and simple calculation method to determine the incident light pattern in the rear pupil plane. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed sidelobe suppression method for double-line light sheet, four-line light sheet, as well as line Bessel sheet. In particular, an 81% decrease in the relative side lobe energy can be achieved in case of double-line light sheet with an almost nonchanging propagation length. We show a way of using combined incident light patterns to generate structured light sheets with interference-resulted side lobe suppression, which is straightforward in design and with advantages of improved imaging performance.

Resumen
Aluminum alloys are widely used in aerospace, automotive, railway and shipbuilding industry, as materials having remarkable properties for applications in these fields. For this reason, in recent years the interest for friction stir lap welding of sheets from these alloys increased. The behaviour of welding materials from the plastic and mechanic viewpoint are different in case of friction stir lap welding compared to friction stir butt welding. The welding tools for friction stir lap welding can have different configurations and sizes compared to butt welding. The used welding parameters must be reconsidered in order to obtain a proper flow of material for obtaining a friction stir lap welded joint. In addition, it is very important how to prepare the sheets surfaces that come into contact and their placement (relative to each other). The paper presents considerations regarding friction stir lap welding, with examples/concrete results obtained in welding of similar and dissimilar light alloys (alloys of aluminum, magnesium and titanium). It also presents data on the characteristics of obtained welded joints, related with particularities of friction stir lap welding. The obtained results showed that light alloys sheets used in various industrial fields can be joined with respect of basis conditions specific for the friction stir lap welding process.

Resumen
Rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell sheets (rBMSC sheets) are attractive for cell-based tissue engineering. However, methods of culturing rBMSC sheets are critically limited. In order to obtain intact rBMSC sheets, a light-induced cell sheet method was used in this study. TiO2 nanodot films were coated with (TL) or without (TN) laminin-521. We investigated the effects of laminin-521 on rBMSCs during cell sheet culturing. The fabricated rBMSC sheets were subsequently assessed to study cell sheet viability, reattachment ability, cell sheet thickness, collagen type I deposition, and multilineage potential. The results showed that laminin-521 could promote the formation of rBMSC sheets with good viability under hyperconfluent conditions. Cell sheet thickness increased from an initial 26.7 ± 1.5 μm (day 5) up to 47.7 ± 3.0 μm (day 10). Moreover, rBMSC sheets maintained their potential of osteogenic, adipogenic, and chondrogenic differentiation. This study provides a new strategy to obtain rBMSC sheets using light-induced cell sheet technology.

Resumen
Lattice light sheet microscopy is uniquely positioned in biomedical imaging modalities due to its superior performance in temporal-spatial resolution and low phototoxicity. However, the imaging system is commonly complicated because producing lattice light sheets involves mechanical scanning and precise alignment. In this Letter, we present an experimental scheme for motionless synthesis and scanning of lattice light sheets using a single digital micromirror device. By fully exploiting its ability of complex amplitude modulation and fast switching, single-shot construction of a uniform lattice light sheet can be achieved by digital dithering. In particular, fast scanning of the lattice light sheet in the depth direction is also realized without any mechanical motion. As a proof of concept, various lattice light sheets are generated and characterized in the experiments. Our work is expected to benefit the development of a compact and low-price lattice light-sheet microscope for biomedical imaging.

Resumen
In this work, titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanocrystals were prepared via spray pyrolysis process under high electric field, and were used for tuning the light scattering properties of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) sheets by embedding their nanopowders in PMMA matrix. The effect of processing conditions such as precursor concentration and calcination temperature on morphology and particle size was investigated. The sprayed and calcined TiO2 nanopowders were characterized by XRD, SEM and TEM. The intensity of the light radiation for TiO2/PMMA hybrid sheets was measured using a LUX meter. It was suggested that the efficiency of TiO2 nanocrystals can be increased dramatically by controlling both the particle size and the morphology. For TiO2/PMMA nanocomposite hybrid sheets, the light scattering capability was found to be about 15 times higher than that of pristine PMMA sheets at the distance of 30 cm.

Resumen
In the framework of Generalized Lorenz–Mie theory (GLMT), based on the expansion results of electromagnetic field radiation components of Bessel pincer light sheets beam acting on dielectric particles of arbitrary size, the expression of radiation force components in a Cartesian coordinate system is obtained by using the Maxwell stress tensor method. On the one hand, the effects of the refractive index and the equivalent radius of spherical particles on the distribution of radiation force are discussed; On the other hand, the influence of beam scaling parameter and beam order of Bessel pincer light sheets beam on the distribution of radiation force are investigated. The results indicate that the changes of particle’s refractive index and effective radius only affect the distribution of radiation force. However, the beam scaling parameter and beam order of Bessel pincer light sheets beam have a very sharp impact on the convergence position, distribution range and bending degree far away from the wave source of the radiation force. Single-beam optical tweezers using the self-focusing and self-bending Bessel pincer light-sheets beam are crucial for applications such as single molecule biophysics, optical manipulation and particle separation/clearing.

Resumen
Aluminum and magnesium materials are very attractive for light weight applications. However, their use is complicated by the fact that dissimilar metals are joined by fusion welding. In the present study, the cold butt joining of light metal sheet with dissimilar material sheet by shot peening was investigated. The shot peening process is widely used to improve the performance of engineering components. In this process the substrate undergoes a large plastic deformation near its surface when hit by many shots. The substrate material close to the surface flows during shot peening. When the dissimilar metal sheets with notched edges are connected without a level difference and then the connection is shot peened, the sheets can be joined by the plastic flow generated by the large plastic deformation during shot peening. In this experiment, an air-type shot peening machine was used. The influences of peening time and shot material on joinability were mainly examined. The joinability was evaluated by tensile test. The joint strength increased with the amount of plastic flow. It was found that the present method can be used to enhance the butt joining of the light metal sheets with the dissimilar material sheets.

Resumen
TiO2 is a high-reflectance material for preparing sheets during dry reagent chemical tests in detail. In this study, bifunctional TiO2 sheets with diffusive and reflective properties were prepared using TiO2 microspheres (particle size 2–3 µm) and cellulose acetate (CA). Factors such as the CA dosage, water content, mixing time, and the choice of surfactant were investigated. The structure and properties of the bifunctional TiO2 sheets were characterized by thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis (TG-DAT), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dynamic contact angle test and reflectance spectroscopy. By studying the above experimental results, it was concluded that the most optimal preparation conditions for preparing the bi-functional TiO2 sheets under natural drying conditions were as follows: the mass ratio of CA to TiO2 microspheres was 0.05:1; Triton-100 was used to improve the diffusion performance of the bifunctional sheets, after mixing for 5 h and coating. The light reflectivity of the bifunctional TiO2 sheets in the 420 to 800 nm range was higher than 90%. Serum diffused in the bifunctional TiO2 sheets reacted in the reagent sheets and formed uniform colorful spots. Considering the repeatability of spot proportion and light reflectivity, the sheet offered a uniform serum diffusion and good repeatability. So, the bifunctional TiO2 sheets are nominated as a promising material for dry chemical diagnostic reagents.

Resumen
This paper presents a sectionwise hydroforming technique for manufacturing of large-area multi-cell sheet metal structures in terms of hump plates. The sectionwise hydroforming technique allows production of hump sheets with variable width and length. The hump plates are based on hexagonal hump geometry. The hump height is optimized for the application as a partition wall in light utility vehicles. Manufactured hump sheets feature a high contour accuracy which allows joining of two hump sheets to a large-area hump plate (up to 1,800 x 2,000 mm). The hump plates have been successfully tested in a load test which proves their potential for light utility vehicles.

The morphology of the CNF, the preparation conditions of the CNF sheet, and the grammage and layer numbers of the CNF sheets were controlled. The solvent-exchanged CNF sheets resulted in the production of a composite with high transparency and low haze. The CNF with smaller width and less aggregated fibrils, which are achieved by carboxymethylation, and a high number of grinding passes are beneficial in the production of optically transparent CNF/epoxy composites. Both the grammage and number of stacked layers of sheets in a composite affected the optical and mechanical properties of the composite. A composite with a thickness of 450–800 μm was prepared by stacking two or four layers of CNF sheets in epoxy resin. As the number of stacked sheets increased, light transmittance was reduced and the haze increased. The CNF/epoxy composites with two layers of low grammage (20 g/m2) sheets exhibited high light transmittance (>90%) and low haze (<5%). In addition, the composites with the low grammage sheet had higher tensile strength and elastic modulus compared with neat epoxy and those with high grammage sheets.

Resumen
We have performed optical investigations of layers formed by sheets of aligned multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). Nanotubes have extraordinary mechanical, electrical and optical properties when they are unidirectionally oriented. Free-standing CNT sheets drawn mechanically from vertically-grown MWCNT forests can be deposited on glass substrates, with nanotube bundles mostly oriented in the drawing direction. These CNT sheet layers have optical anisotropy, which can be detectable even for a single CNT sheet. We have studied the optical anisotropy in transmission, finding a similar value at different length scales indicating similarities in the orientational order of the nanotubes, thus preservation of their average degree of order. Finally, light transmission was observed when the samples were at 45 deg between crossed polarizers. Full Text: PDF ReferencesS. Resumen
Rescue blankets are medical devices made of a polyethylene terephthalate sheet coated with a thin aluminum layer. Blankets are used for protection against hypothermia in prehospital emergency medicine and outdoor sports, but totally different qualities are typical for these multi-functional tools. On the one hand, rescue sheets prevent hypothermia by reducing thermo-convection and diminishing heat loss from evaporation and thermal radiation. On the other hand, the sheets promote cooling by acting as a radiant barrier, by providing shade and even by increasing heat conduction when the sheet is in direct contact with the skin. As foils are watertight and windproof, they can function as vapor barriers and even as stopgap bivouac sacks. We evaluated three experimental studies, one on heat loss by rescue blankets according to surface color, one on transparency with ultraviolet radiation, high-energy visible light and visible light, and one on infrared radiation from rescue blankets. When evaluating the effects of different bands of the electromagnetic spectrum on rescue sheets, we focused on ultraviolet radiation (200–380 nm), high-energy visible light in the violet/blue band (380–450 nm), visible light (380–760 nm) and infrared radiation (7500–13,500 nm). Rescue sheets transmit between 1% and 8% of visible light and about 1% of ultraviolet B radiation (280–315 nm), providing sufficient transparency and adequate protection from snow blindness. Reflection of visible light increases detectability in search and rescue missions performed in good visibility conditions, while reflection of infrared radiation increases detectability in poor visibility conditions and provides protection against hypothermia.
