Texto completoOur clinical activity of accompanying patients in palliative situations at home has led us to question the meaning of home at the end of life. As part of our doctoral research, we conducted thirteen non-directive research interviews on the theme of home. Carried out at the bedside of patients at their homes, we also agreed, during the meeting, that a family member remain present. Our analyses are deployed on two parts: a thematic analysis to draw up all the themes addressed and a textual analysis with the use of ALCESTE software. The epistemological framework of our study is part of a complementary approach. We use disciplines such as psychology and psychoanalysis, but also anthropology or philosophy. Our results show that this demand for home covers several dimensions, including the need for a place to protect a body that has become fragile. This space has its own characteristics that operate as a protective structure. People at the end of life also aspire to maintain many links with an environment that has become fundamental. We understand here that home is a space where multiple relationships are woven. Finally, the home in its temporality, crossed by the will to last, has the essential function of supporting an identity undermined by illness and hospitalization experiences

Texto completoMohsin Hamid and Hari Kunzru have been widely acclaimed figures of the transnational literary scene since the 2000s, and their fictions have often converged since then around the experience of place. This thesis proposes to read this shared writing pattern as a po/ethics, involving both poetics and ethics, in the sense that it demonstrates the two novelists’ desire to confront within works of fiction the real-life events that have upended the relation to place in the early twenty-first century – from 9/11 to Brexit, but also migration and climate change – while simultaneously playing on narrative voice, metalepsis and overlapping to represent the ubiquity of the contemporary sense of place. In doing so, they also relentlessly question the categories of nation or origin ascribed not only to imaginaries of place, but to the writers themselves, and accordingly display inspirations from a variety of sources in the British, American, as well as Pakistani and Indian literary canon. Because they often resort to dialogic forms, these narratives also seem to interrogate readers constantly about their own relations to place and their own role in the making of common places. These also include literary common places – topoi – in the sporadic references to the fable, to horror or, more frequently, to speculative fiction. From Pakistan to London via Berlin and the Mojave Desert, these narratives of globalisation offer new perspectives for a situated, attentive reading of the multiple attachments formed and reformed with place. The analysis focuses on the entirety of the two writers’ fictions to date, and also includes interviews conducted with Hari Kunzru

Texto completoI was traveling on Nicaragua’s long roads, wandering, strolling with a camera in my hands, trying to capture the soul of rejected places and buildings. “I have visited historic places where pirates and conquistadores had passed, lands colonized by the English, Spanish and American empires. I have visited wonderful cities and isolated villages, virgin forests and crowded markets. I saw grand churches and modest chapels which had celebrated joyous births and had seen war heroes leaving. " I fully dived into this surprising culture. Sometimes as a tourist, a rambler, or a stranger, I wanted to immortalize the last visible tracks of some historic events that filled the history and the Nicaraguan culture. I produced a series of photographs which generated a large reflection about the construction of my own personal history, my own memory and my own identity. This essay is a testimony of these reflections from a human being as well as an artistic experience point of view.

Texto completoAs a public space, the theatrical stage is where representations of the nation are constructed and deconstructed, in an unceasing dialogue between art and politics. In Scotland, the tension that destabilizes the very idea of nationhood is exacerbated by the recent geo-political context (the referenda on devolution in 1979, 1997, the referendum on independence in 2014, and Brexit in 2016). Reflecting this instability, the Scottish stage similarly reinvents its relationship to the national space by playing with the very scales of space and community, from the local to the global. Space and place, constantly challenged on the stage, become objects of representation that question the multiple ways of doing, showing, and seeing theatre. Both in its projects and its ideology, the National Theatre of Scotland (NTS 2006) seeks to reinvent the nation. As a building-less national theatre, the NTS reinvests all types of spaces, be they real or virtual, asking us to rethink the presence and absence of the body on stage, and fostering new transnational communities of “spect-actors”. This theatre without walls is a metonymy for the radical opening up of Scottish theatre itself, which invites postnational and horizontal representations of identity. The Scottish stage thus presents us with a productive paradigm to explore new understandings of the nation and the contemporary dramatic forms it fosters

Texto completoThis thesis analyses firstly the setting up of space in the preparatory files of Les Trois Villes by Emile Zola. Thus we try to answer these following questions:According to which form is place set up? What are the transformations that space undergoes from one pre-text to another? What are the functions of that space and what is the relation between its setting up and the setting up of the characters and the plot? This study also aims at examining the displacement of characters in the final text of Les Trois Villes. This displacement takes place on different levels (local level, fictive level...) and by different means (look, speech, memory, imagination...). Finally, this thesis seeks to determine the different techniques of discribing places by analyzing the different "mecanisms" of the ambulatory description (mobile characters, figures of speech, enumeration...)

The disasters of the « Erika » and the « Prestige », and between these two, the event of the « Castor », have largely emphasized this reality. At the origin of this decline, we found technical progresses. Some having permitted rescue of the sailors in distress without requiring the ship to be granted a safe haven. Described in this manner, the reflex can be perceived like legitimate. But, the automatism can conduct to the absurdity whereas progresses, but a contrario this time, make possible to measure and moderate the risks and, in consequence, to return towards the natural way of the refuge even in the presence of potentially dangerous and/or polluting ships

Texto completoIs a semiotics of enunciation conceivable and operational? Is the concept of enunciation (as it is posed in semiotic theory) an operational concept or simply a working hypothesis? Such is the - somewhat provocative - question that this work seeks to explore, by assuming an affirmative response on the methodological plane. In other words, this thesis seeks to (re)situate the question of enunciation within the frame of discourse analysis, or more generally, media analysis. This frame of investigation allows us to identify the enunciative arrangements and modes at work in the discourses of written (feminine) press. The frame of research was thus constructed (part 1: a problem under construction) at the intersection of two major theoretical and "practical" questions, the general question of enunciation and the question of use. Within the semiotic concept of enunciative praxis, the guiding thread of this theoretical syntagm - what d. Bertrand calls the impersonal aspect of enunciation ; (l'impersonnel de l'énonciation), passing through linguistic (Benveniste), semiotic, pragmatic, and Bakhtinian approaches to enunciation - seemed to pose the problem in terms of a "mise en scènes, scenography, enunciative arrangements", enunciative figures, or even discursive positions ; which one can designate as commonplaces of (uttered) enunciation. The convergence of these different perspectives leads us to propose an extensive conception of enunciation, correlative to a socio-semiotic approach to discourse. Some practical analyses (case studies), based on a corpus of texts taken from feminine magazines, validates the theoretical and epistemological invitation toward the communicational and socio-semiotic dimensions (part 2 : for a socio-semiotic approach to discourse in the feminine press) within the perspective of a semiotics of enunciation, focused on praxis, that is, on a theory of discourse in the act, it was interesting to analyze how these discourses, by using these + commonplaces; of enunciation, construct a discursive identity. This study, as a form of scientific praxis or bricolage; (in Levi-Strauss' sense), finishes by setting into place several (semiotic) elements which can outline a general frame of research for an approach to written press

Texto completoThe notion of place (in its metaphorical and concrete implications) serves to characterize the paradoxical, protean object of this study namely. Jackson Mac Low's performance writing. From 1954 .to the early 1980s, the poet enhanced the disruptive impact of his practice, both in .terms of generic hybridization and semiotic, political subversion. His scores prescribe performance, yet they rarely determine every aspect of its medium, structure, or duration (in asimilar way to the indeterminate notation of such experimental composers as John Cage, Morton Feldman, Earle Brown, or Christian Wolff). An invisible dynamic force animates these texts whose seeming fixity on the page often conceals an endless process of multiplication and becoming. The lasting elusiveness of the textual Object challenges analysis as well as the understanding of what actually takes place in the Mac Lowian performance despite, or by way of, a "non-place" wherein the barriers of literary commonplaces such as the norm of a hierarchically structured opus that may be framed generically — are transcended.. The processual form takes its full import when linked to the poet's anarcho-pacifist beliefs: it then materializes the tension between utopia and heterotopy, which defin.es his unique relationship with the communities he was involved in. Mac Low's participation in many existing artistic and literary communities of his time was ubiquitously central and marginal. By virtue of its transformative and subversive impact, Mac Low's performance writing anticipates and shapes new communities, and thus appears to be, in Jacques Rancières understanding of the word, eminently political

Texto completoThe gerontology, new multidisciplinary practical field facing the elderly than 65 years old population 95% wish: to age at home. The main difficulty of keeping at home is the non-accordance of the available home facilities with the actual needs of elderly people. Therefore, the specialized old people's home business is still flourishing. However, if the purpose of these institutions is to cope with incapacities linked to the age, could they lead to side effects on the individual? Here, the psychologist action is to help practitioners and families in taking into account parameters such as feeling of well-being, quality of life and mental health. To be more precise, this study deals with the adverse effects potentially driven by the placement of elderly people in specialized institution. The methodology used in this study consists in the statistical comparison of elderly people samples, living at home or in specialized institution. The evaluation of each individual has been done through parameters such as physical incapacities, cognitive deterioration, esteem in itself, body representation. For the major part of here above parameters, results have revealed the adverse effects of specialized institution. The psycho-pathologic evolution observed on the elderly people living in old people's home sample is faster and deeper than the elderly people living at home sample. Therefore, both specialized institution and keep at home; alternatives seem to feature pro's and con's. Based on the above, clinically appropriate place for elderly people living would be a place where individual could conserve its roots, its memories and its freedom while it has access to permanent medical social, active and psychologic assistance. This third alternative combining pro's from keep at home; and specialize institution definitively exists. There are so called therapeutic flats of integrated residences

Texto completoThis theoretical and practical work is based on three postulates : the picture is the emblematic figure of art ; it has lost its viability and its credibility ; any plastic assemblage is also an ideological form. Therefore : no work of art can escape to its context, the principle of its autonomy is questionned ; the work of art takes part in a plastic assemblage and appears in public space (common ground), hence it is political : its set-up is an ideological structure. The frame of a picture is a political construction against reality. It is also found in the theatricality of works of art in museums, and in the notion of art as an autonomous category. Its principle negates the world and neutralises any subversion the work may produce, by locking it into the category. A succession of frames guarantees the entropy of culture as an auto-referring system. To act in the materiality of the world implies a transgression and the building of an other assemblage. One would then risk the disappearance of the work of art. A fragile, ephemeral or site-specific work is only relevant in a precise context, but it may then gain a critical power with regard to that context. The autonomy of the artist and that of the work of art are inversely proportional : if the work is autonomous, it is neutralised. Otherwise, the artist acts in the public and material time and space. He is responsible for his assemblages. An ethic becomes necessary. Every plastic activity faces the temptation of abandoning the compromised art world, and intervenes in culture, where our society's values are negociated. Ephemeral and fragile, critical works can bring a subversion into cultural categories fixing time and space. "common grounds, acts of presence" defends a doubt, on the fringe of disappearance

Texto completoThe noncompletion of Descartes'Regulae and the disappearance of the syntagma of mathesis universalis in later works lead us to believe a self-denial on Descartes behalf wich express itself in his failure to structure reality. To investigate the question of Descartes'locus presumes follow the evolution of his thought and allows a transversal course of his work. The notion of locus permits such a voyage by expressing itself first trough a paradox that leads us to the heart of Descartes' philosophy: we expect to find its definition in the field of physics and we are surprised to know that bodies fill no locus, because they don't move from one locus to another and, more radically, whereas every movement is relative, we can legitimately consider that the same body does and does not move. Such a conception seems not to allow a mathematical physics. Such a failure has also to be connected to an evolution in Cartesian's conceptions improved in the Regulae, especially concerning the part of imagination; The exertion of ingenium nevrtheless supposes the existence of a body that incarnates. So that it is possible to wonder in Which way the world is the locus of God (Eucharisty) as is the body the locus of the soul

Texto completoIn the course of the realisation of three successive exhibitions. The notion of scene has found its expression under several occurrences. Our plastic practice is inspired by architecture the first exhibition in 1993, at the chapelle Saint Louis in the Salpetriere-"creating for a scene"- leant upon the architectural characteristics of the classical plan, especially the square, in this building influenced by palladio's architectures. With the second exhibition, at the cloitre des Billettes in 1994, we thought of experimenting a relation with a new kind of scene : that of a gothic cloister. Now, the legend of the host desecration is reputed to have occurred in this very place in 1290. This indeed guided our work in the shape of a title "the origin of red, the scene of the colour". Various sources leading to a staging of the advent of red confront each with the other. The theme of the house- to call to mind the house of the jewish usurer Jonathas- has emerged; along with it. The deep impression created in 1990, at the Metropolitan Museum in New York by the roman Fresco panel from boscotrecase, near Pompéi, has turned essential. Its structure and its formal and chromatic (in black) variations were to serve as models for an important series entitled : "black imperial room". This was to become the matter of a third exhibition "in the place of. . . " at the Pixi gallery in 1995. From the scene of the architecture, along the scene of words through the legend. We proceed to the ancient scene of the roman painting where we locate the origin of the abstraction and monochrome. Our aesthetic concern finds its place in a reference to the sublime from longin to barnett newman. E. Burke's very plastic analyses towards a phenomenology of the sublime suit our painter's sensitive approach. In the chapelle de la Sorbonne, the defence of our research is presented by ten displayed panels, named chora, joining the scene and the name, since it is "all one"

Texto completoWhen working with people in precarious situations, the clinical setting needs to be reconsidered. The clinician is confronted with a singular relationship between social support and individual vulnerability. Moreover, mental health workers need to rethink their practice in view of the current broadening of their tasks, and more particularly need to discriminate between their mission to provide psychological support and institutions' social projects. The social rehabilitation logic questions contemporary psychopathology by highlighting the demands of differential diagnosis, when working with patients at risk of marginalisation. In order to avoid repetition of failure, it allows for the expression of psychosocial abilities by offering ways for the patient to participate in a community. Mental health institutions thus seem to be caracterized by which identity choices the patient may have. The symptom can no longer be reduced merely to its behavioral expression, ind must be understood as a link between different communities (imaginary and symbolic) and the subject himself. This research aims to describe, beyond the specificty of each institution, the subjective participation of mental health professionals and the types of relationships they offer their partients. Clinical practice thus implies a form of clinical engagement. Psychoanalytical theory can allow the clinican to remain engaged in order to suspend logics of social control and, instead, participate in the subject's empowerment

Texto completoThis research suggest a link between comfort theory and sciences of living, assuming that comfort is one of the components of the habitability of public places and that its construction is related to the act of living. Considering that comfort is built and practiced at the same time by those who live in the public places, we propose a multidimensional approach of comfort. Five dimensions appear as relevant (and necessary) in the analysis of comfort in public places: the one of the body, the one attached to the use itself, an aesthetic dimension, a symbolic dimension, and the one related to the sociability. These five dimensions of comfort show themselves with more or less variable intensities in two different temporalities, the immediate and the memory of comfortable and uncomfortable. The identification of these components of comfort is inevitably established by the in situ observation. That’s why, through the application of our method of iterative observation in three public places, a set of figures was identified. Then, these figures follow the logic of five dimensions of comfort, and organize themselves according to the five dimensions

Texto completoThis doctorate aims to contribute to a better understanding of the link, several times demonstrated, between odors and colors. It is organized in 4 parts corresponding to 4 major studies carried out in different countries, France, Lebanon and Taiwan, as well as in different regions within the same country (urban Lebanon, rural Lebanon). The first study carried out in the three countries aimed at demonstrating the impact of culture on the construction of the odor-color link. The results obtained revealed a significant effect of the participants' place of residence on the construction of the link but also the predominant role of the "function of the odor" (food, cosmetics, industrial ...). The second intercultural study between France and Lebanon focused more specifically on the methodology used to carry out odor - color tests. Indeed, in the literature, two types of procedures are generally used: presentation of physical colors that the participant can see or absence of presentation of physical colors and the use of color names (blue, green, red, ...). The comparison of these two methods revealed an equally important effect between the procedure, the culture and the function of the odor on the odor-color association. The data also revealed that colors have the capacity of olfactory evocation. To better understand this phenomenon, we performed an fMRI study. This third study using fMRI showed that the olfactory evocation power of abstract color arrangements was different from that obtained from colored figurative visual representations. The cognitive processes involved in an olfactory evocation from colors arrangement, is more complex and multimodal involving olfactory, emotional, visio-spatial, language and memory processes. The final part of this Ph.D. examined how emotional evidenced by fMRI could interfere with the construction of the odor - color link. The study was carried out in France as well as in two rural and urban areas of Lebanon. The results showed that the affect associated with an odor influenced the odor-color link, but above all, that the preferential choice of certain affects was linked to the socioeconomic and cultural situation of the participant. This thesis is therefore a contribution to a better understanding of the link between odors and colors. It has demonstrated its complexity with a proven effect of the odor function in the country, the methodology used and the place of residence and socio-cultural level of the participant. However, it stresses the need for a multidisciplinary approach to understand even more precisely the whole workings
Orel, Francoise. "Pouvoirs de femmes dans les lieux". Thesis, Université de Lorraine, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018LORR0231.
Texto completoThe issues of wandering, instability, and power are largely addressed today in literary, political, and scientific works that tend to examine them separately in a general way. In some cases it is possible to link these notions. The thesis is a comparative analysis of the spatio-temporal situation of eight heroines from various contemporary works, distinguished by their background and their cultural, geographical and social origins, but which are approaching by their instability and the nature of their powers, as opportunities for action, which they mobilize. The instability born of their evolution in the places (place of origin and place of passage or adoption) does not lead to a loss of oneself insofar as it impels the exercise of powers synonymous with openness, self-assertion, resistance. Power does not only involve action on oneself, but also on others, who react by opposing their own power according to Foucault’s theory. As a result, the powers of the heroines are circumscribed, their freedom is limited by the very existence of others, nevertheless they remain responsible for the actions they engage from a Sartrean point of view, they manage to acquire a real authority, proving that they exist and that they have a role to play in given spaces

Texto completoThe work that we suggest focuses on the novelistic scene as a privileged element of reading the aurevillien text. This consist in fact not only in considering the space simply as the place where action evolves and actors perform, but also includes everything that "fills" the space such as furniture, objects and even the bodies of the characters. All these elements of space are dealt with in four major chapters : space in its story catalyst function (lieu-incipit); other functions of space in the general organization of the text; the body in relation with the space it occupies and all the "under-spaces" created by the body itslf; and finaly the embedding techniques and reflections of space which are particularly obvious in les diaboliques

Texto completoNuno Júdice is one of Portugal's contemporary poets who has, during his entire literary career, held a privileged relationship with the arts. Even before his first published book, Noção do Poema(1972), the poet endeavored to communicate with the painted image. He establishes a subtle slippage between poetry and painting, but also between painting and poetry. He mines a universe of inseparable memories of the pictorial world. This singular and fecund dialogue with painting allows us to observe how ekphrasis becomes a process of transposition and a base for a profound reflection on the poetic 'how-to'. Our research thus concerns the ekphrastic relationships, which are woven through his whole work. We analyze, with a thematic approach, the means with which the poet brings painting to his writing in moving from one artist's studio to another. We start from two hypotheses: the first stipulates that for Nuno Júdice, painting is the means of linking the two arts, allowing the creation of an another painting from the poet's words; the second emphasizes that the practice of ekphrasis stimulates a possibility of retrieving memories. In our interrogation of the intersemiotic play and the poetry/painting analogies, we show that landscape, place and body articulate around one and the same principle. Is it perhaps, ultimately, about provoking feelings and reinventing the world?

Texto completoOn its initial impulse, the Internet technologies have dispersed the professional and traditional journalistic field over fine particles of medias. Throughout the participatory theory, Internet’s users are now committed in a collaborative way. Therefore, information system is moving from a common standard of media to a wide variety of digital modules. With its scattered form, new journalism schemes do not fit within a global information environment and show difficulty inserting the institutional architecture. Finally, all the information circuits and mechanisms of Web 2.0 have become dissipated and disruptive. In their diverging characteristics, they cannot efficiently pursue a common objective of information. But online processes are still associated with the chronological changes of a medium always under development. The Internet has to learn to control its dynamics, making order from its chaotic interfaces. Thus, digital systems keep improving, producing new communicational instruments. Supported by the sociability of social networks, other uses appear. From now on, traditional and participatory journalism will regroup on uniform platforms. Generalist, both social and interactive, the link information will build a more organized circuit. This new specific form of media is going to combine, prioritize the variety of online media mechanisms. The Web then takes another way, it is passing on the fragments of its chaotic systems toward a whole, a housing scheme, which seems finally organized. This evolution maps different medias and describes a transition from a participatory information structure to a new order of link journalism. At the heart of several evolutionary stages, the chronological modeling of the Web brings out a development of a complex system. Around a corpus derived from the participatory and link journalism, the crossed perspective between complexity, organization and chaos of digital platforms will attempt to reach a global thinking of media, transforming their new digital connectivity into a compensatory and creative system
