Texto completoAs part of a comparative study, this work aims to analyze, by bringing them together for the first time, the creative worlds of the Italian writer Dino Buzzati (1906 – 1972) and his French colleague Claude Louis-Combet (1932 –), according to the flesh and soul duality, which is a constant in their works. Both authors, through the fictionalized autobiography, the mythology reworking, as an original vision of figurative art, expressed sensitivity and imagination surprisingly close. They have been accompanied by legendary figures and fellow artists, to guide the reader into the mystical and fantasy dimension of his unconscious

Texto completoThis thesis questions the political history of the French Reformers at the beginning of the seventeenth century through the prism of the notion of freedom : freedom as a defense of the legal gains conferred by the Nantes edict regime, but also as a capacity for action. Far from considering the Huguenots as the passive victims of an «all Catholic France», it considers them as political actors. This capacity to act is analysed in two stages: first, we examine the characteristics underlying this freedom of action in the context of the seventeenth century, through a study of the place given to institutions, memory, union and language in Reformed practices. We then study the «implementation» of this political freedom, questioning the evolutions of the Huguenot party, from the relationship to the institutions, to the nobility, to the language strategies following the death of Henri IV. Finally, we dedicate a last part to the «killing» of this political culture: the end of the Huguenot party, widely documented, is not the result of internal dissension, but of a political will that seeks to attack this freedom
Garcia, Marie-Thérèse. "Le territoire d'Arturo Pérez-Reverte : entre littérature populaire et littérature érudite". Toulon, 2005. http://www.theses.fr/2005TOUL3002.
Texto completoThis thesis, devoted to historical romances, detective stories, novels of adventure of Arturo Pérez-Reverte aims at highlighting the way the author bridges the gap between popular and scholarly fiction. Starting from a definition of both these literary genres, the background which favoured the emergence of this new form for a new reading public serves as introduction. Next, the way the novelist, in the tradition of popular fiction, blends the artifices of cinema and soap opera in his historical romances, on the one hand and the devices of quest and enquiry in his detective stories on the other, is examined. Then the covert or overt element of intertexuality available to the reader capable of deciphering the various layers of meaning and rewriting is referred to. The influence of Borges and Eco— labyrinthine construction, delight in mystification, and constant swing between realism and phantasy — constitutes the fourth and final part

Texto completoAl-Ḥaǧǧāǧ b. Yūsuf al-Ṯaqafī is considered by Islamic medieval historiography as the archetypal man of tyrannical power. Having successfully dealt with many revolts, he posed a moral problem to Muslim historians, to the extent that he died of natural causes, without being punished by God. How then to account for his turbulent times, his actions, his distrust vis-à-vis religious symbols, massacres he committed? We are trying to demonstrate that by using satire and irony, historians and writers who have written about him have responded, each in its own way, this thorny issue by drawing a black portrait of him, touching on all aspects of the person. Building on the accomplishments of Paul Ricœur and especially Hayden White, we also show that Muslim historians intervened significantly in the composition of their works to guide their narratives according to their moral conception and “ideological” own, offering portraits various al-Ḥaǧǧāǧ. The result is skeptical (al-Ṭabarī), ironic (al-Balāḏurī) or satirical and very pro-‘alide (al-Mas‘ūdī) readings. The study of three non-historical texts broadens the vision and demonstrate if necessary proximity between history and adab in medieval times. At the same time, we believe we have found many examples refuting the thesis that a canonical history was written under the Caliphate Abbasid
Actis-Grosso, Maurice. "Giorgio Bassani entre histoire et mémoire : passion commémorative et maturité conflictuelle". Paris 4, 1991. http://www.theses.fr/1991PA040018.
Texto completoGenerated by the deep impact of the Shoah or genocide, the Jewish contemporary Italian writer Giorgio Bassani’s works, known under the titles of Il romanzo di Ferrara ( narrative production ) and In rima e senza ( poetical production ), are the point of elaboration of a memorial saga in which history and memory, autobiography and historical inspiration balance. The search of significant indications of a character and psychological individual evolution is made through fantasmatical partial autobiographical projections on screen-protagonists who become progressively hypostatical to the explicit identification of the narrator and the author, confirmed by the autobiographical pact. The macrocosmic nazi-fascist antisemitic persecution outlook, centered on the microcosmic prism of the Jewish community of Ferrara, divulges the narrator-author's evolution towards a maturity in fact conflictual. The commemorative passion of the tragedy of the holocaust ends in the dawn of a shrouded Jewish identity that correspond to a stopped chronology at the level of the author's literary consciousness. Out of the prospect of the Shoah, this creative cycle concludes with an involution
Grazioli-Rozet, Isabelle. "Ernst Jünger : sentinelle entre mythe et histoire". Nancy 2, 1992. http://www.theses.fr/1992NAN21020.
Texto completoThis reflection on history, myth and the human condition in Jünger's work has as its objective to reconstruct metaphysics, to release the different strata of the spiritual and intellectual maturing of this controversial author. The study resituates Jünger's questions regarding the meaning of history, his explanations about the phenomena he served and finally his solutions regarding the problematic of m modernity. The thesis analyses Jünger's "heroic" period which he believed influenced history, the progressive transformation into a doctor of civilization and of the human soul, thus delivering diagnoses and therapy. The thesis finally brings out the hierarchy between histories. The science of man subjected to time and to the metaphysical world; Jünger wanted to re-establish order between men and gods, between things profane and sacred
Théodore, Jean-Marie. "Les antilles entre l'assimilation, la negritude et l'antillanite". Lyon 2, 1996. http://www.theses.fr/1996LYO20036.
Texto completoSince aime cesaire published his first literary work : "notebook of a return to my native land", french west indian litterature has been studied from its ideological aspect. That's why it is considered as either anticolonialist, black african, "francophone", caribbean, creole or american, depending on the reader's point of view. It is supposed to be a weapon to fight for national independance or against alienation. As new concepts such as creolity and americanity have appeared, brought forth by a new generation of writers, we have to reassess this point of view. Such concepts as "assimilation, negritude and antillanity" have thence to be reestimated as well as traditionnel criticism of those concepts. Creolity and americanity result from a new apprehension of west indian history leading to a reassessenent of the idea of assimilation and also benefit from progress made in the field of linguistics of the creole language. Supporters of creolity are hence forward stressing the "diversalite", aspect of creole culture in the french west indies, while vincent placoly, considering the fact that the french antilles are part of america, insists on their americanity. From, now on, it is more important for french west indian writers to express their creole or antillean identity than indulge into ideological or political considerations (such considerations are however still to be found in their writings). Now, we may consider those main literary trends, that is negritude, antillanity, americanity an creolity, as so many aspects of poetics and when dealing with those pieces of literature and we should mostly take their literary aspects into account

Texto completoTaking its starting point in the actual discussion between natural sciences on the one hand, social sciences and humanities on the other, my thesis explores the conflict of these two forms of knowledge at the end of the nineteenth century. At that moment, cultural life is engaged in a battle opposing a historical paradigm with a biological and medical one. Two conceptions of human life are at stake: a culturalist vision which defends the historical development of mankind with its possibilities and its progress; and a naturalist vision which analyzes the determinants of a stable human nature. The two paradigms have an extraordinary importance for literature, exerting a strong influence on the depiction of romanesque characters and even on the fundamental structure of the fictional worlds. The analysis proceeds by questioning six representative novels, simultaneously allowing a comparison of the French and the German literature of the time: Salammbô and L’Éducation sentimentale by Flaubert; Nana and Germinal by Zola ; Effi Briest and Irrungen, Wirrungen by Fontane. The thesis takes a close look at their historical, medical and biological sources and analyses how they are adapted to fiction. It broadens its approach in opening historical (Michelet, Burckhardt) as well as philosophical perspectives (Nietzsche). It concludes that the relationship between literature and scientific knowledge is placed in-between two extremes: the explicit reference to biomedical and historical sources, marked by a transfer of themes and structures ; and the adaptation of a fundamental model, not clearly taken from a source but which nevertheless corresponds to a scientific mode of thought

Texto completoWhile there is no doubt that liberal ideals serve as a guide for the political choices of Alexis, it should be stated at the same time that some of his opinions are taken from conservatries values. In his works, the French model, breaking with tradition by introducing institutions based on the notion of social contract, is opposed to the English model, a sample of historical continuity based on the organic evolution of Germanic institutions. In the 1840's, his reasoning, when the trial by jury was being debated, shows the inner mechanism of his political thought quite clearly. For him, Anglo-American history was both a keen interest and a useful instrument for criticizing political events in contemporary Germany. His writings on the subject reveal the ethical and religious foundation of his conception of history; as a matter of fact, for this descendant of "refugiés", Huguenot political thought appears extremely important, and studying his ideas concerning the notion of "vaterland" confirms this. This concept deals not only with the eventual role of Prussia as a leader in united Germany, but his use of the word "vaterland" shows that this is linked to civic idealism, which makes him the heir to 18th century conceptions. He is ready to sacrifice the Prussian state in order to keep what he believes to be its real values, the tradition of citizenship principally developed by the Huguenots refugees and used by the Hohenzollern dynasty to unify the state

Texto completoConsidering the relationship between Psychoanalysis and Surrealism, we verify that the surrealistic movement was strongly marked by Freud's thinking. Through the experience of automatic writing, Breton makes a link between the unconscious and the automatic functioning of the language. Thus, the surrealism enunciates what is to be Lacan's way of thinking the Freudian unconscious. In the 50s, Lacan supports this same link, relying on the notion of structure, which drives him away from the surrealistic project. The dream and the paranoia appear as the two fundamental phenomena in order to understand the most fertile moments in the history of the relationships between Psychoanalysis and Surrealism. We have relied ourselves on them to develop the discussion of the three notions that constitute the object of this research : the reality, the real and the surreal

Texto completoStefan Zweig and History, Stefan Zweig and Human. The relationship between Zweig and History is in permanent correlation with the human being. The collective and the individual are linked in his works. His stories of life at the turn of the years 1920-1930, his works which mark a certain engagement after the arrival to power of Hitler or the story of his own life and of his world, after his exile: so many literary works that testify of the interest of Zweig for History and for his world. Zweig often identifies himself with the characters about whom he writes, finding in these characters similarities with his own person, or admiring the qualities of some, and envying the courage of others. The human qualities are more important to his eyes, the heroes could be of different nature; heroes aren't only those about whom the school books speak. The interest of Zweig for History is explained by his interest for the time in which he lives. However, Zweig regrets his own past and seems to search, in the characters of History, for a link with his lost world, the world of yesterday. Zweig says that he has had three lives. The last life ends in exile. But how is it possible to live away from our world, from our history, from our past?
Attia-Gherbi, Radia. "Les Vies de Mahomet (XVII-XIXe siècle) : entre Histoire et fiction". Thesis, Paris 8, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015PA080110.
Texto completoThroughout the history of French and English literature, the figure of Mahomet has been the object of several Lives. From the Middle Ages onwards, interest is centered on the representation of Mahomet as a legendary figure. In the 17th century, Humphrey Prideaux published a Live in a context where the theme of the “three impostors” was predominant. Later, Boulainvilliers and then Lamartine would draft a biography of the prophet of Islam. If there are numerous studies on the legendary representation of Mahomet during medieval period, there is still no general study on the intertextual tradition which joins all the Lives all the Lives of Mahomet published in Europe between the 17th and the 19th century. This thesis suggests this gap by bringing to light the main transformations undergone by the biography of Mahomet in certain western versions between the Middle Ages and the 19th century. The first part begins with a reflection on the genre of the Lives and presents the Live of prophet of Islam that acts as reference text in the Arab-Muslim world: Sîra. It underlines, besides, the particularity of the intertextual tradition which joins most of the Lives of Mahomet written in West. A particular attention is granted to the motivations of their authors bound mostly to the historic and literary contexts. The second part describes the literary processes used by our authors having had the effect of compromising the prophetic mission of the prophet. Resort to erroneous translations of the Koran, the inventions, the deformations of some accounts, no means was saved to underline the deceptive aspect of his prophecy. The third part confronts the figure of Mahomet to the one of Jesus and Moses. To point out that the Koran was not able to be written by none other that the prophet of the Islam. Our authors took care of comparing some episodes of the life of these three men by emphasizing what distinguished them. In the term of our study, we tried to show that all the Lives of Mahomet drafted in Europe join in an intertextual tradition which draws its origins from the Latin texts dating medieval period. This thesis would want to contribute to a history of the ways of thinking and transmission of texts

Texto completoThe era of the first four caliphs is a founding era in the history of Islam. According to Muslim sources, it was during this period that the Caliphian institution was born, that Arabia really submitted to Islam, that Islam left its territories, that the Koran was collected in a Muṣḥaf, that the first divisions within Islam took place. This period has caused much ink to flow among researchers in the East and in the West. We limit ourselves here to studying it in francophone historiography. We aimed in this research to analyze the way in which was written, by francophone researchers, the history of the first caliphs and the way in which these researchers exposed the circumstances in which the religion of Islam was born. We examine the sources on which they base their writing of the first times of Islam, the methods and the sources of the sources of the francophone researchers

Texto completoThis work deals with the Talmudic ethics of the self, how it differs from other ethical systems of the Mediterranean world of the first centuries CE and in what ways it resembles these systems. Through analysis of texts from classical rabbinic Iiterature, we show that the rabbinic movement developed an anthropological and ethical conception that was dIfferent than the one we find in philosophical and Christian writings of the first centuries. The particularities of the rabbinic ethics of the sel : are studied through the analysis of six themes: all of which figure prominently in rabbinic ethical discussions: repentance (teshuvah), suffering (yissurim) ; master-disciple relationship (rav-talmid) ; the bad inclInation (yetzer ha-ra); the fear of God (yirah) and the relationship between study, and practice of the Law (talmud and ma 'assé). Using the works of Michel Foucault, PIerre Hadot and Vincent Descombes, we try to demonstrate the importance of the rabbinic ethics of the self to the history of the occidental subject and to our way of thinking it, and to articulate its relation to the moral law

Texto completoThe Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1951 affected the traditional social context in a way that the Land of Snow had never experienced before. The implementation of Maoist organizational structures in Tibet had a deep influence on literary production in both form and content. These brought about a profound transformation of traditional views on literature itself. Literature left the monasteries and was henceforth dedicated to the celebration of Maoist triumphs following the principles of socialist realism and revolutionary romanticism. From a linguistic viewpoint, writing in Tibetan was not abandoned, and yet a new generation of sino-educated Tibetans began to write in Chinese. From the 1950s onwards, tibetophone literature and sinophone literature - written by Tibetans - have developed in parallel, within the same social context, thus representing continuity within tradition yet expressing, at the same time, a major cultural disjunction. How were sinophone (post-)Maoist literary structures implemented in Tibet? What exactly are these structures? Who are those sinophone Tibetan literary agents? What is their agency and their agenda? To what extent are they active - not only reactive - within the Chinese cultural establishment? What is the subject of discussion in the main debates concerning Chinese-written Tibetan literature? What new literary perspectives are emerging from the Net? This thesis questions the specificities of Sino-Tibetan literature and its transcultural dynamics in order to assess the complex and cross-border nature of such writing in the context of the PRC today

Texto completoThis thesis explores the historical novel for young readers in Israel. This literary genre constructs narratives which integrate historical facts as adapted to needs of young readers. Beyond the literary, historical, and cultural references the novels offer children, these works often shape the world view of adults the next generation. As a nation under construction, however, the act of writing should not considered an act of innocence. The aim of this study was examine the type of roles revealed in historical novels for young readers in an Israeli context. One of the most highly regarded authors of Israeli youth literature, Devora Omer (born 1932), wrote novels which define a cornerstone of this genre. The author's works are intrinsically linked to the History of Zionism as expressed in several of Omer's historical novels. Another aim of this study was examine the author's narrative approach to national history, particularly the literary aspects which she chose to privilege and those which remain silent in her writing. Omer reveals her intention to transmit Zionism values while educating Israeli youth about their history. Finally, the significance of the historical novels as a means to propagate ideas, particularly the impact of Omer's works on the israeli public, determines the author's unique treatment of the genre itself as well as a field of research which merits further study

Texto completoThis thesis explores the diverse aspects of the renewal of the classics in the poetry of Louis MacNeice, Derek Mahon, Seamus Heaney, Michael Longley and Tom Paulin. From the 1930s to the beginning of the XXIst century, Northern-Irish poetry has fruitfully tackled the most prominent genres of Greek literature and thought, through for instance a fragmentation of the epic model, as well as the rewriting and modernization of Greek drama. Canonical texts such as Homer’s Odyssey, Sophocles’, Euripides’ and Aeschylus’ tragedies are the filters which allow these poets to envision their contemporary circumstances. A poetry for the present, concerned with temporality, which either exemplifies or rejects Aristotle’s rules of poetic composition, is thus enacted and revisits central notions from Greek philosophy, as for instance Aristotle’s energeia. The status of the classical heritage, from the mythical method to translation, questions the very basis of poetic creation and redefines the link between the poet and his society. On the eve of the Second World War for MacNeice and during the bloodiest years of the Troubles for the other poets, particularly violent contexts blur the frontier between poetry and history. Both interact in the poets’ interest in Greek historiography, specifically in Herodotus’ and Thucydides’ sole reliability on visual testimony, which triggers very diverse poetic incarnations

Texto completoBy concentrating on Nadine Gordirner's work written throughout her long and prolific career, the thesis covers sixty-two years of South African history and literary production and leads us to examine the synergy between nation and narration. The concomitance of these two notions can initially be ascribed to historical circumstances, since the author's literary beginnings coincided with the advient of the apartheid regime in South Afiica. Starting with the questioning of her own identity as both a white South African and white writer, she then devoted her writing to understanding and recounting the complex political evolution of her country. From apartheid and its colonial origins to the post-apartheid moment and the present era of economic and cultural globalization, these changes have prompted her to rethink existing literary and political forms. We will therefore question the power of Nadine Gordimer's literary discourse to narrate the South African nation. The corpus we use to tackle this question focuses on her substantial nonfictional writing, previously understudied if not unknown, and on its interaction with her fiction (novels and short stories). We can then observe the impact that the choice of a writing genre mig,ht have on the act of narrating the nation. The author, her work and the national question are here presented as 'post-colonial'. However, based on the South African con/text and with the help of recent critical theory, we will also argue that we must redefine such a label which sometimes turas out to be problematic and totalizing

Texto completoA genuine historic figure, Miguel Mañara (1627-1679) was a Sevillian gentleman with an uneventful youth who made himself famous through his commitments to the poor and a reputation for holiness. His case for canonization gave rise to a hagiographic discourse while a cycle of legends developed turning him into an archetypal carefree young man converted owing to Providence's spectacular warning signs. Freely drawing his inspiration from this model, Prosper Mérimée, in Les Âmes du Purgatoire (1834), has made him a literary character and has favoured a confusion between Don Miguel and Don Juan Tenorio by creating the hybrid character of Don Juan de Maraña. Still a figure of legend in Seville and the object of a kind of literary pilgrimage, Mañara has, from Romantic days, experienced numerous fictitious rebirths above all in the work of French and Spanish writers, and therefore may be himself considered as a literary myth. It examines the formation of the person through the process of communicational exchanges at multiple levels, from the intimate to the public realms. The person is analysed at the interface of her/his multiple interactive ties, as well as his reflections on positioning himself in a larger context, especially the politico-ideological system of the time in the Soviet Union. The study focuses on engaged communists, mainly those who could be called the founding fathers of the Soviet state: Bolshevik pioneers whose personal ties and friendships often emerged from, a common revolutionary militancy under the auspices of the Party. 8ased on personal documents such as diaries, letters and memoirs this thesis shows in particular the crucial role played by engaged communication among people close to each other in the development of critical capacity relative to the regime in power

Texto completoToni Morrison is an Afro-Américan writer who won the Nobel prize of literature in 1993. In her novels, the official hisstory is represented as a form of reconstructing the past. Instead, she gives a version of history which is derived from the collective memory of the Afro-Américans. For Toni Morrison, re-writing the Afro-Américan history cannot be without retrieving the horrible experiences and the shameful images of the past underwent by the Blacks during slavery and after their emancipation. This manner of re-writing history in her novels creates a relation of dialectic beteween fiction and history. The past inspired by the official history is often depicted as a fiction and completed by the different stories narrated by the characters. In this way, she deconstructs the historical discourse and reconstructs an other version of history basedon the everyday experiences of the Blacks in the Unites States

Texto completoOur study aims at demonstrating how theatricality made French-speaking communities' survival and claiming possible in Louisiana. In our first part, we study romantic literature of the XIXth century and show that these erudite creations established Louisiana as a theatrical character. The 1921's Convention banished French language in the State, starting an English-Language's assimilation policy. In the second part, we see that oral literature and lyrics stressed linguistics' monstrosity in carnivalesque. This struggle continued in written literature after 1968's proclamation of Louisiana as a bilingual state. In the third part, we explain how this written literature helped self-analysis of linguistics' vertigo. We prove then how the authors composed, with theatrical process inherited from oral character, the new poetical and social body of a reassembled identity

Texto completoLebanon is a country in which togetherness seems to be necessary, as several cultures are continuously in interaction. Therefore, major social and identity issues are raised.Starting from the beginning of the 20th century, Lebanese writers raised their voices because they were revolted by the absurdity and the violence of the wars which continuously ravaged Lebanon and other Arab countries. These writers were hoping that their testimony would help reinstaure interculturalism on this territory which had been an emblem of religious and cultural consensus for a long time. French-speaking Lebanese poet Nadia Hamade Tueni had multiple identities herself. Thus, she was dedicated to maintaining religious and cultural pluralism in her country despite the wars which jeopardized it between 1967 and 1975. The description of landscapes plays an important role in her writing. She represented the Lebanese identity through Lebanese landscapes, which she described with a poetics of the sea, the mountain and the desert. Our research is divided into four parts. Firstly, we will analyze the historical and language context of Nadia Tueni’s poems and texts in prose. Secondly, we will be interested in identity-building factors and the complexity of the concept of identity, especially as far as the Lebanese identity is concerned. Thirdly, we will explain the declinations of Tueni’s landscapes and how they interact with the poet’s body, her identity and more generally the Lebanese identity. By doing so, we will eventually understand Nadia Tueni’s vision and conception of identity at the end of this work

Texto completoThe revival of contemporay Occitan literature had its beginning in the 1970s, when the publication of collections of short stories in paperback versions gave it a new momentum. The first part of the thesis seeks to delineate a multi-faceted genre and to outline its recurring themes as well as formal characteristics. This analysis reveals how the particular situation of the Occitan language contributes to creating a paradoxical relationship between realism and the fantastic. The choice of the Occitan language as a literary medium also raises the question of cultural identity which permeates these stories. The use of a minority language to write ambitious and innovative texts might seem paradoxical, but it is a deliberate choice by these authors who view Occitan as a language conveying values such as tolerance or modernity. The second part is devoted to the detailed presentation of the short stories on which the thesis is based. The brief overview of each of these stories, some of them lesser known, reveals the richness and diversity of the themes addressed. An indicative bibliography is also provided for each author. The corpus includes the works of more than sixty writers and constitutes a comprehensive survey of the dialects in use in the Occitan-speaking region

Texto completoIn this doctoral dissertation, we are studying a selection of both Mexican and French literary works related to the historic events of the Second French Intervention in Mexico (1862-1867) and of the Second Mexican Empire (1864-1867). This body of works has been published between the XIXth and the XXIth century and has been selected, both because their poetic and political thoughts are emblematic of this period and because they have contributed to the construction of a Mexican cultural and identity iconography. We have decided to select the fiction and theatrical genres, to carry out a comparative and diachronic analysis. The decision of which literary works and authors to include has been made based on how both the French Intervention and the way it has been depicted in literature, have been dealt with in particular in each literary work and each author we considered to studied. The studied novels belong to the sub-genre of serialized fiction in the XIXth century with, on the French side, Benito Vázquez (1869) by Lucien Biart and Doña Flor (1877) by Gustave Aimard and, on the Mexican side, Clemencia (1869) by Manuel Altamirano and El Cerro de las Campanas (1868) by Juan Mateos. As far as theatre plays are concerned, we have carried out a comparative study of both Corona de Sombra (1943) by Rodolfo Usigli and Charlotte et Maximilien (1945) by Maurice Rostand. We have completed our analysis with a complementary study of El Tuerto es Rey (1970) by Carlos Fuentes. Regarding more contemporaneous historic and literary creations, we chose to include Noticias del Imperio (1987) by Fernando del Paso and Yo, el francés by Jean Meyer (2002). This corpus allows to carry out a comparative, linguistic, semiotic and literary analysis of afore-mentioned works. Such analysis calls for a thorough reflection on the interpretation of conflict, an armed and political conflict which influenced both History and Mexican and French literary productions

Texto completoThe subject of this research is about the Nahda, as conceived and built up by its actors-journalists in Egypt during the 19th century. Starting from the writings of a pioneer of this social movement, Ibrâhîm Al-Muwaylihî, and going through critical and literary analysis of his realistic and fictional published discourses, this research is, on the one hand, revisiting the history of this cultural Arab renaissance from a journalistic point of view and is, on the other hand, capturing the relationship between press and literature for a better understanding of how modern Arab literature was born and evolved. A specific emphasis is placed on defining role of the periodical literary and press as a supporting and propagating the Nahda. By reviewing leading, socio-political speeches and socio-satirical stories published at installments, this research makes an inventory of the dominant topics and offers conclusions about one of the largest newspapers of the Nahda, Misbâh Al-Sarq, a historical and political work, Mâ Hunâlik, and a new literary work, Mir'ât al-Âlam, all created by Ibrâhîm Al-Muwaylihî. The latter work is quoted, analyzed and compared with other newspapers. This research offers a synthesis of important Nahda questions about the press and the literature of an era, tracks and traces its history as witnessed by its actor-journalists, including their views about relations between the East and the West and mutations in the Arab and Muslim world. It offers an insight into a new Arabic literary style born in the press, analyzes the transmutation of the maqâma into a social novel and summarizes the Muwaylihi's Nahda thoughts, which remain valid in this 21th century

Fonseca, Marco. "Le conflit entre raison et irrationalité dans les romans et les essais d'Ernesto Sábato". Thesis, Sorbonne Paris Cité, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018USPCA022/document.
Texto completoThis research work deals with the staging of the conflict between reason and irrationality that occurs in the novels and essays of the Argentine writer Ernesto Sábato (1911-2011), from the point of view of the formation, consolidation and apparent synthesis of said symbolic confrontation. Our objective is primarily to examine the representation of this conflict, within which its particularities will be analyzed, as well as the relationship it established with topics such as the dichotomy between scientific knowledge and artistic creation, the literary representation of the irrational and the experimentation with the novelistic and essayistic genres that the author undertook throughout his literary career. In this context, our attention is focused in particular on the three novels by the author El Túnel (1948), Sobre Héroes y Tumbas (1961) and Abbadón el exterminador (1973), as well as in his four main essays, Uno y el universo (1945), Hombres y engranajes (1951), Heterodoxia (1953) and El escritor y sus fantasmas (1963). This study will be carried out through the connections and links established between the texts in question based on the common theme of the staging of the conflict between reason and irrationality, reflecting on the particular ways in which each one, in his own discourse and in relation to others, generates a common thread that connects and unifies them under the same thematic unit. This analysis will establish that the symbolic staging of the conflict between reason and irrationality in the novels and essays of Ernesto Sábato is the basis of his literary work. For this reason, a reflection on the aforementioned issues has been relevant, treated under the perspective of who was considered one of the most important and representative Latin American writers of the second half of the 20th century

Texto completoStarting 1919, the surrealistic writings and representations offer new visions of reality, dependent from an original perception. Moving away from academism and imitation, they explore the unconscious, open by a psychanalytic Freudian field in order to express hidden thoughts of their consciousness. The result of their experimentations and of their semantic games allow leeway for absurd representations where objects and their definitions do not coincide anymore. It is from this dissociation between the idea of the object and its representation that comic and tragic dimensions are born, from the real and the unreal. Surrealism transcends and transgresses alternatively the norms commonly adopted by society. It is from this subversion that new images appear. Surrealistic poetry reveals an interior reality that is created by the imagination and by an exterior reality shaped by unconscious thoughts. Thus an imbalance arises and semiotic hints allow one to discover the real nature of each representation. Sometimes burlesque sometimes sublime, the representation of life and death takes on a significance still unknown by the grand public. By entering the maze of the psychanalytic analysis, the surrealists created a pathway and emancipated themselves from previous artistic movements

Texto completoTomás Eloy Martínez, an Argentinian journalist and novel writer, rewrites the History of Argentina through his work. He rewrites this history by playing with words - by manipulating collective History, manipulating the Other, its own history and identity, even its physical reality -. Thus the line between fiction and reality vanishes progressively and the power of language (which allows for dominating the Other) is expressed as a “ dual of narrative versions ” between fiction and History. The author creates alternative realities, based mainly on the subjectivity of the perception that characters can have of the world surrounding them. Language is therefore a tool for power, but the power struggles in Martínez’s work also show that the object of this very power often is the body of characters who are victims of a certain number of torturers who persecute them in order to dominate or annihilate them
