Resumen
This thesis aims to contribute to the scholarly understanding of the opinion(s) that ancient philosophers had towards laymen. While various intricacies of ancient philosophical thought have been extensively probed by scholars, the understanding that philosophers had of laymen has received little attention. To begin to address this lacuna in scholarly knowledge this study will attempt to explicate and compare the opinions that two ancient philosophical thinkers had regarding laymen: namely the first century C.E. Stoic Epictetus', and the first century B.C.E. Jewish exegete and philosopher Philo of Alexandria's. Indications that Epictetus and Philo of Alexandria believe that there are ways through which people's moral advancement might be gained apart from through formal philosophical pedagogy are explored, in particular this is seen from their perspective on primeval humanity, civic law, civic religion, and exempla. This thesis shows how the records of these two thinkers' thoughts discloses their shared viewpoint about laymen: namely both believe that lay individuals are substantially different in their worldview and moral understanding in comparison to philosophical aware individuals, but both hold that there are ways in which these differences can be attenuated. With regards to Philo this study also reveals how Jews who were heavily influenced by Hellenistic philosophy could positively conceptualise non-Jews who lacked philosophical training.

Spatial data is playing a bigger role within many fields outside of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial analysis. With more and more users with varying levels of previous spatial analysis experience using this kind of data, there is a growing demand on how this information is best presented to the user. This user-centered design is an increasingly common theme in other adjacent fields, but is still in its infancy in the field of GIS. Currently there is no obvious generalized solution that provides the answer to how to present data, no matter if it is spatial or not. How to present data in a smart and comprehensive way is still an everyday challenge across many fields. The objective of this thesis is to create a prototype of a web based Network Information System (NIS) where the layman user is in the center of the entire design process. This includes both the actual visualizations, but also the choice of tools and the interface design. The prototype is designed around the role of the customer service representative in a utility company using a NIS. This type of layman user is the kind of user that today works in a system that is designed with neither their role nor their GIT experience or training in mind. From this prototype, the efficacy of different visualization techniques on layman users is evaluated, producing more general guidelines for user-centered development directed at layman users. The first step of this user-centered design process is to understand the user. By interviewing users of the system, their current work flows and opinions of their current system are better understood. From this, information about which tools they need, which current features work well and which need revising is gathered. Based on this, a mock-up is created which is then transformed into a prototype. Finally, the prototype is evaluated by the target audience with comments on a presentation as well as a larger survey. The results show that in general the prototype is well-received with regards to existing functionality and how it is presented through the interface design. The implemented visualizations are well understood by most of the expert users, but are less successful with the layman users in the survey. Especially with regards to the icon choices and other point representations, there is a discrepancy between the intended visualization and the perception of the survey takers, which may partly be due to the lack of context presented. An appreciated fact is that the functionality implemented in the prototype is tailored to the requirements put forth by the users. User-centric design processes depend heavily on the developer's understanding of the user and their needs. This is as true for functionality as for visualizations, where familiarity and associations can be both beneficial and detrimental, depending on how well understood they are. Using icons to represent objects is very efficient, as long as the context and the meaning of the icons themselves are well defined and conveyed. Finally, it is imperative to not throw too much information at the user. Whether in the shape of too many tools and options, or by displaying too much on the map, the same clutter-problem occurs. When presenting a situation or a scenario, the core message cannot be obfuscated by unnecessary features, functions or choices.

Cette étude du Brut de Lawamon (épopée en moyen-anglais archaïsant de la fin du douzième siècle) comporte, en première partie, une étude thématique (555 pages) de l'œuvre entière. Les thèmes retenus ont été l'espace, le temps, la guerre et les guerriers, le roi humain et roi céleste, les femmes et, enfin, la vie quotidienne. Chacun de ces chapitres montre que le poète cherchait à faire d'œuvre d'historien en s'appuyant sur les œuvres anglo-saxonnes des siècles précédents que Lawamon considérait comme témoignages du passé. Le poète, qui traduisait le texte du normand Robert Wace - Le roman de brut - gomma systématiquement, en effet, les références au cadre courtois dans lequel le français avait placé son récit ; tout ce qui tient de la vie publique dans le brut de Lawamon est ainsi modelé sur les poèmes épiques vieil-anglais. Les éléments de la vie privée, en revanche, - n'ayant pas de place dans la poésie anglo-saxonne - sont dépeints sous les traits du douzième siècle ou empruntes à des légendes celtes : le poème est au carrefour de multiples traditions. This study of Lawamon's brut (an epic of the end of the 12th century written in archaistic middle-English) contains, in a first volume (555 pages), a thematic study of the whole work. The subjects that have been dealt with are space, time, warfare and warriors, human kings and the divine king, women, and everyday life. Each of the chapters show that the poet wished to act as a historian relying on the Anglo-Saxon works of the preceding centuries - that he considered as truthful accounts of the past. The English poet (who was translating Robert Wace’s Middle English poem known as roman de brut) systematically deleted the courtly background of the Norman text. In Lawamon's brut, all that concerns public affairs is modelled on the old English epic poems. On the other hand, when depicting private life - that plays no role in Anglo-Saxon poetry - Lawamon described his own 12th century world or resorted to Celtic legends: his poem is at a crossroads of traditions the second volume (246 pages) is made up of a translation into French of sixty per cent of the poem; the passages have been selected for their significance in the plot or in (English) literature, their originality of their stylistic interest. The third volume (301 pages) consists of the original text of the translated extracts together with Wace’s corresponding passages of the roman de brut on the opposite page: Lawamon's faithfulness or emancipation from his main source (an issue frequently dealt with in the thematic study) is - literally - made visual

This study explores Layamon's engenderment of cultural unification for the explicit purposes of an Anglo-Welsh cultural resistance to the Norman overlords in the March of Wales. In essence, I examine some of the most important cultural signifiers in medieval English and Welsh culture and the methods by which the poet adapts and grafts them together to form a culturally amalgamated text—neither explicitly English nor Welsh but yet simultaneously both - and the political implications of this amalgamation. Though Laymon's methodology emanates from multiple aspects of the text, I have concentrated here on what I feel are the most explicit manifestations of this theme: Merlin, his prophecies, and the Law of the March.

Abū Zakariyaʾ Ibn Dāwūd Ḥayyūdj nasceu em Fez, Marrocos, e viveu em Córdoba, Andaluzia, entre os anos 960 e 1010 A.D. Ḥayyūdj ganhou o título de \"grande gramático\" por desvendar o mistério dos verbos fracos. Até então, palavras difíceis eram solucionadas por métodos comparativos (Seʿádia Gaʾon e Yehudá Ben Quraish); ou eram associadas à raízes, atualmente reconhecidas como compostas por três letras diferentes, à mesma raiz reduzida a duas letras ou até uma (Menaḥem, Dunash e David Alfesi). Prima facie, as teorias de Ḥayyūdj emergiram a partir de estudos gramaticais que se iniciaram como um continuum dos sábios tardios da Messorá. Porém, o presente trabalho pretende mostrar a conexão que havia entre Ḥayyūdj e a Messorá, que não foi tratada nos trabalhos acadêmicos consultados. Por isso, espera-se preencher essa lacuna existente na literatura explorando os contextos histórico, gramatical e massorético nos quais Ḥayyūdj estava inserido. Consequentemente perceber-se-á como Ḥayyūdj superou seus antecessores. No decorrer da exposição discute-se como o Texto Bíblico foi veiculado em dois canais paralelos (escrito e oral) e por tradições diferentes (judaicas babilônicas, tiberienses, israelense e Andaluz). Desmembra-se o Texto Massorético em três camadas: Texto Consonantal, sinais massoréticos e anotações massoréticas. Apresenta-se um modelo triangular no qual as anotações massoréticas (qere–ketiv) encontram-se no topo para harmonizar entre o Texto Consonantal e os sinais massoréticos. Analisa-se, diacronicamente, segundo a fonologia gerativa, a profundidade da escrita do Texto Massorético abrangendo a visão dos massoretas tiberienses (produtores) e dos andaluzes (consumidores). Discute-se a afinidade entre a Messorá, as teorias gramaticais anteriores e Ḥayyūdj. Mostra-se que Ḥayyūdj foi o primeiro gramático, fora dos círculos massoréticos, que interpretou os qere–ketiv marcados nas marginais dos códices massoréticos. Discute-se como Ḥayyūdj solucionou as contradições existentes entre as vogais massoréticas e as vogais do Texto Consonantal. Mais especificamente mostra-se como as teorias de Ḥayyūdj permearam os planos ortográfico, fonético, fonológico, melismático e morfológico da gramática. Na ortografia, as formas plenas e defectivas seriam equivalentes; no plano fonético, qamats e pataḥ, tseire e segol e por fim, ḥolam e ḥataf-qamats seriam pares de fones iguais; no plano fonológico, o qamats diferentemente do pataḥ, tseire diferentemente do segol, e ḥolam diferentemente do ḥataf-qamats seriam seguidos por uma espécie de arquifonema amorfo inspirado na Messorá e nas letras de prolongação do árabe: o sākin layyin traduzido para o português como \"repouso frágil\"; no plano melismático, as vogais massoréticas precederiam os melismas; no plano morfológico, o hebraico seria enquadrado no modelo estrutural das línguas semíticas. Em suma, mostra-se que com base no sākin layyin, Ḥayyūdj abandonou o modelo mental arraigado em seus antecessores para desenvolver teorias sólidas que solucionariam o problema dos verbos fracos e que simultaneamente traria harmonia entre o Texto Massorético e a tradição oral andaluza.
Abū Zakariyaʾ Ibn Dāwūd Ḥayyūj was born in Fez, Morocco and lived in Cordova, Andalusia between 960 and 1010 A.D. He earned the title of \"the great grammarian\" for unveiling the mystery of the weak verbs. Until Ḥayyūj, difficult words were elucidated by comparative methods (Seʿadia Gaʾon and Yehuda ben Quraish); or were associated to roots, nowadays recognized as triliteral, reduced to two or even one letter (Menaḥem, Dunash and David Alfesi). Prima facie, Ḥayyūj\'s theories emerged from grammar studies that started as a Masorah\'s continuum. However, the present work we show the link between Ḥayyūj and the Masorah, something that was not well explained in in the academic papers checked by the author. For this reason, we expect to fill the gap left in the literature analyzing Ḥayyūj theories vis-à-vis their historical, grammatical and Masoretic contexts. Therefore, we see the way Ḥayyūj revolutionized the grammar at all the levels studied at that time. The present work, discusses how the Biblical Text was transmitted by two parallel channels (written and oral) and by different traditions (Jewish-Babylonian, Tiberian, Andalusian and Israeli). We show how the Masoretic Text is composed by three layers: Consonantal Text, Masoretic signs and Masoretic annotations. We show a triangular model in which Masoretic annotations (qere-ketiv) are at the top in order to harmonize the Consonantal Text and the Masoretic signs. We diachronically analyze, according to the Orthographic Depth Hypothesis – a generative phonology\'s branch – the depth of the script of the Masoretic Text, covering the points of view of both the Tiberian (producer) and the Andalusian schools (consumer). We discuss the affinity between the Masorah, the previous grammar theories and Ḥayyūj theories. We show that Ḥayyūj was the first grammarian that clarified the Masorah, out of the Masoretic circles, who explained the qere-ketiv written in the Masoretic codice\'s margins. We discuss how Ḥayyūj solved contradictions between the Masoretic vowels, the Text Consonantal vowels and the qere-ketiv. More specifically, we discuss how Ḥayyūj\'s theories permeated into orthographic, phonetic, phonological, melismatic and morphological grammar levels. Ḥayyūj showed that in orthographic level, the full and defective forms were equivalent; in the phonetic level, qamats and pataḥ, tseire and segol, and ḥolam and ḥataf-qamats were pairs of equal phones; in the phonological level, qamats differently from pataḥ, tseire differently from segol, and ḥolam differently from ḥataf-qamats were followed by a kind of amorphous archiphoneme inspired in the Masorah and in the Arabic long letters: the sākin layyin; on the melismatic level, the Masoretic vowels had priority over the melismatic signs. In the morphological level, the Hebrew language could be considered within the structural model of Semitic languages. In other words, we show that, based on the sākin layyin, Ḥayyūj abandoned the mental model deep-rooted in his predecessors to develop consistent theories that solved the weak verbs problem and, at the same time, showed the harmony between the Masoretic Text and the Andalusian oral tradition.

Syftet med denna undersökning är att se hur lekmannaövervakare och klienter uppfattar relationerna sinsemellan ur ett sociologiskt perspektiv. Även hur dessa parter uppfattar relationen när det gäller kontakten och tilliten. Vi har utgått från en kvalitativ intervjumetod där vi har intervjuat sammanlagt åtta personer varav fyra lekmannaövervakare och fyra klienter. I arbetet har vi utgått ifrån fyra teorier, intrycksstyrning, stigmatisering, stämplingsteori av Erving Goffman samt den abstrakta tilliten av Anthony Giddens. Resultatet visar att lekmannaövervakarna och klienterna har en viss tillit till varandra men visar samtidigt att det finns gränser på hur nära man som lekmannaövervakare vill komma sin klient och tvärtom. Vi har också kommit fram till att både klienter och lekmannaövervakare har en vetskap om hur man gör för att bygga upp ett förtroende hos varandra, men att alla bygger detta på olika sätt. I analysen kommer du att få läsa om hur vi kopplat vårt resultat till de fyra olika teorierna för att sedan kunna ge en förklaring ur ett sociologiskt perspektiv. The purpose of this study is to see how the layman and clients perceive the relations between them from a sociological perspective. Also how these parties perceive the relationship in terms of contact and trust. We have used a qualitative interview method where we have interviewed a total of eight people including four layman and four clients. In this study we used four different theories, impression management, stigma, labeling theory by Erving Goffman and the abstract trust by Anthony Giddens. The results show that the layman and the clients have some trust in each other but also show that there are limits on how close a layman wants to be to his client and vice versa. We have also found that both clients and the layman have knowledge of how to do to build trust in one another, but that all achieve this in different ways. In the analysis you will read about how we have connected our result to the four different theories in order to give an explanation from a sociological point of view. This thesis examines the history of discourses of modern architecture in Britain through the career of J.M. Richards as a journalist and editor of The Architectural Review (AR) from 1933 to 1972. The three central themes of the thesis are; firstly, the importance of Richards and the magazine to the culture of modern architecture in Britain. Building on existing scholarship that has broadened the boundaries of architectural history to include the architectural media, this thesis considers the changing role of the media within the architectural profession and what this reveals about the shifting role of architecture in British society. The second and third themes are closely related, the second covers the interrelationship between Richards' work at the AR and his other media activities, as well as the overlaps between his personal and professional lives. His writing in and editing of the AR are considered in relation to his work and that of his colleagues for the BBC, Penguin Books, in the MARS Group and within government organisations. This reflection on the media landscape, of which his career was a part, explores the wider cultural contexts of modern architecture. Similarly this study looks at Richards' friendships and his professional associations and reflects on the complex networks of people and places that made up the culture of modern architecture in Britain. The third and final theme is the definition of modernism as a series of discourses, rather than as a single idea or a particular style. Architectural culture is conceived of in terms of various collections of discourses, all vying with one another for power and authority. Modernism is one such collection of discourses, which contains Richards, his career, his friends and colleagues, their ideas, actions and feelings. Thus his career provides a chronological framework through which to trace the trajectory of the discourses of modernism in relation to alternative discourses. The thesis explores how the discourses coexisted within architectural culture, shifting in their relation with one another over time. Through this reassessment of Richards' career and his relationship to the discourses of modernism, this thesis explores fresh perspectives on the existing historical narratives of modern architecture in Britain.

The Laysan teal, an endangered species, is restricted to a single population on Laysan Island, a remote atoll of the Hawaiian archipelago. Little is known of the Laysan teal's ecology, therefore, I examined food habits, habitat use, and population dynamics. These aspects of its ecology are fundamental to the species management and conservation. I described diel and nocturnal habitat use, home range, and foraging with radio telemetry in 1998-2000. Most individuals showed strong site fidelity during the tracking period, but habitat selection varied between individuals. Mean home range size was 9.78 ha (SE 2.6) using the fixed kernel estimator (95% kernel; 15 birds with >25 locations). Foraging was strongly influenced by time of day: birds spent only 4% of their time foraging in the day, but spent 45% of their time foraging at night. Time activity budgets from the island's four habitat zones indicated that the coastal zone was rarely used for foraging. The birds foraged 42% of the time they spent in the terrestrial zone at night, but foraged only 4-6% of the time they spent there during other times. Fecal analysis and behavioral observations revealed that the Laysan teal is not a 100% macro-insectivore as previously reported, but consumed seeds, succulent leaves, and algae, in addition to adult diptera, diptera larvae and pupae, ants, seeds, lepidoptera, coleoptera, and Artemia. I concluded that this species exhibits high plasiticity in foraging behavior. Laysan teal appear to opportunistically select abundant, high energy prey for the breeding season, due to constrained resources on Laysan Island. I also studied the parameters influencing the Laysan teal's population dynamics. Adult survival is high, but duckling survival on Laysan is low, and is a primary demographic parameter limiting population growth. Estimates indicate the population density was high (between 546-827) from 1991 until August 1993, prior to a population crash that occurred between September and December 1993. The most current population estimate (Sept-Nov 2001) is 444 (SE 181) adults. Additional populations (translocation), along with control of non-native mammalian predators, are needed to reduce extinction risks to the Laysan teal.

Les enquêtes religieuses réalisées après la Seconde Guerre mondiale soulignent le dynamisme du diocèse d’Annecy. Toutefois, aucune étude n’a été menée jusqu’à présent sur le sujet. C’est pourquoi il semble intéressant d’étudier son évolution entre la Séparation (1905) et le Concile Vatican II (1962) par une démarche monographique. Cette longue durée, couvrant intégralement trois épiscopats, permet ainsi une meilleure appréciation de l’évolution du diocèse dans sa pratique, mais également dans sa vitalité religieuse. La mise en place de la loi de Séparation pose un certain nombre de problèmes, mais donne également l’occasion de souligner le « catholicisme bleu » du diocèse. Les laïcs apparaissent alors sur le devant de la scène, favorisant ainsi l’éclosion des mouvements d’action catholique qui progressent tout au long de la période, et ce malgré les deux guerres mondiales. Ils contribuent ainsi à entretenir le dynamisme diocésain même si le rôle des évêques et du clergé ne doit pas être négligé. Cet élan ne doit toutefois pas faire oublier les tensions qui apparaissent autour d’un certain nombre de mouvements et des enjeux politiques. Entre 1939 et 1945, le diocèse se distingue par le rôle d’un certain nombre de ses prêtres qui apportent leur aide à la Résistance, tout comme les laïcs nombreux à rejoindre les rangs de l’armée des Ombres, mais également par l’assassinat de prêtres accusés de collaboration.Les vocations sont un centre d’intérêt constant tout au long de la période et les efforts menés dès le début de l’étude permettent au diocèse de ne pas connaître trop rapidement la crise du sacerdoce. Les années d’après-guerre sont tournées à la fois vers les vocations, l’école libre, qui reste un sujet de préoccupation, mais aussi vers les nouvelles formes de la pastorale. La mise en place de ces dernières sont concomitantes des enquêtes de sociologie et des missions régionales qui permettent d’obtenir une photographie du diocèse à la veille du Concile
The religious surveys made after the Second World War stress the dynamism of the Diocese of Annecy. However this matter has not been examined until now. That is why it seems interesting to study its evolution between the separation of Church and State (1905) and Council Vatican II (1962) using a monographic approach.The enforcement of the Law of " Separation" raised some problems but also gave the opportunity to stress " The Blue Catholicism " of the diocese. As a consequence, Laymen appeared on the Front of the Stage, inducing the rising of Catholic movements which grew throughout this period inspire of the two World Wars. This helped to maintain the dynamism of the Diocese thought the part played by the bishops and the clergy must not be forgotten. However, inspire of the impulse, we can notice a tension between catholic movements and political stakes. Between 1939 and 1945, we must remember the part played by several priests who helped the French Resistance movement. Numerous laymen joined The " Army of the Shadows " and some priests suspected of being collaborationists were murdered. Throughout this period, the efforts made from the beginning of the study, allowed the diocese not to know too quickly the Crisis of priesthood related with calls to the Church. After the war, these were the main concerts as well as religious schools and the news forms of the Pastoral concomitant with sociological surveys and local missions which gives us a photography of the diocese on the eve of the Council

Este trabalho nasceu com o objetivo de verificar a relação Igreja e Estado no século XIX, e dentro desse contexto procurou enfatizar o processo de Romanização da Igreja frente à modernidade que passava a se configurar. Analisamos o posicionamento da Igreja, que optando por ser mais Romana, respondeu, assim, às transformações oriundas do turbulento mundo moderno. A nível geral a reação da Igreja aparece através do posicionamento firme dos Papas Ultramontanos, de Pio IX a Pio XI, que utilizando um novo instrumento, as encíclicas, combatem abertamente o que consideram como distorção dos valores religiosos e ao mesmo tempo conclamam seus Bispos, padres e fiéis espalhados pelo mundo a se unirem e fortalecerem com um posicionamento mais romano, a fé católica. No Brasil focalizamos a ação dos Bispos reformadores, que contra o Padroado do Império brasileiro, travaram a Questão Religiosa, levando à prisão Dom Antônio de Macedo e Dom Vital e alterando consideravelmente as relações entre Igreja e Estado, que contribuiu para o enfraquecimento do Império no Brasil. E finalmente, chegamos à implantação da Diocese de Manaus, que já nasce romanizada dentro do novo cenário político do Brasil, a República. Portanto, enfrenta desde os seus primeiros passos grandes desafios para se firmar e responder fielmente às diretrizes romanas. Olhamos para a Diocese através da ação dos seus três primeiros administradores episcopais: Dom Lourenço Aguiar; Dom Frederico Costa e Dom Irineu Joffily. E com o intuito de adentrar e compreender a vivência religiosa nesse contexto romanizante, buscamos apresentar a ação das Congregações Religiosas e a receptividade do Laicato para com a Romanização.

Introduktion: Revisionen har sedan länge haft en viktig roll i att säkerställa tillförlitligheten hos företags finansiella information men kan utöver detta ses som betydligt mer flerdimensionell i och med sin rådgivande funktion. Att utforska vilka värden de som företräder de redovisningsskyldiga bolagen upplever av revisionen kan vara värdefullt då de både påverkar och påverkas av denna. De kommunala bostadsaktiebolagen skiljer sig åt i både ägarstruktur och revision från privata bolag vilket kan påverka bolagsföreträdarnas upplevda värde av revisionen och är därav relevant att undersöka.  Syfte: Syftet med studien är att utforska företagsledares uppfattning om revisionens värde i kommunala bostadsaktiebolag.  Metod: Studien är av kvalitativ karaktär och har utgått ifrån en deduktiv ansats.             Empirin har samlats in genom semi-strukturerade intervjuer. Slutsats: Studiens resultat visar att företagsledarnas upplevda värde av revisionen i huvudsak uppkommer i och med dess kontrollerande och granskade funktion, vilket tyder på att dess traditionella funktion fortfarande är högst aktuell. En möjlig förklaring till detta kan vara bolagens kommunala ägande. Samtidigt visar studien att revisionen i olika utsträckning skapar värde i och med sin rådgivande funktion. Uppfattningen om lekmannarevisionen styrker dock inte en liknande slutsats, och bidrar enligt insamlad empiri inte  i någon större utsträckning till värde för bolagen.
Introduction The audit has long had an important role in ensuring the reliability of corporate financial information but can be seen as considerably more multi dimensional with its advisory function. Investigating what values company representatives are experiencing from the audit can be valuable as they both affect and are influenced by its function. The public housing companies differ in both ownership structure and auditing, which may affect the company representatives perceived value from the audit and is therefore relevant to investigate. Purpose The purpose of the study is to explore business executives views on the audit value creation in public housing equity companies. Method The study is of a qualitative nature and is based on a deductive approach. The empirical data has been collected through semi-structured interviews. Conclusion The results of the study show that the business executives perceived value of the audit is mainly due to its controlling and auditory function, which indicates that its traditional function is still highly relevant. A possible explanation for this may be the municipal ownership of the companies. At the same time, the study shows that the audit to varying degrees is creating value with its advisory function. The perception of the layman auditing does not however reinforce a similar conclusion, and does not contribute to the value to any significant extent according to the study.

Resumo: Este trabalho propõe ampliar a compreensão sobre a história da formação de professores pelo PROHACAP (Programa de Habilitação e Capacitação de Professores Leigos) que atuaram no ensino de matemática em Rondônia. O objetivo da pesquisa é elaborar uma interpretação histórica de percursos formativos de professores de Matemática em Rondônia que atuavam como leigos. Abordamos o período de 1960 a 2007 para compreendermos os percursos formativos destes profissionais. Para estudarmos a formação vivenciada pelo professor leigo no percurso de sua prática docente nos valemos de situações do contexto educacional rondoniense anterior à formação acadêmica. Recorremos à História Cultural e à História do Tempo Presente e utilizamos fontes diversificadas como: fontes orais, imagéticas, legislação, documentos oficiais, jornais, materiais do curso de Matemática. Mobilizamos o conceito de táticas (cf. CERTEAU) dos professores para interpretar os percalços e percursos de sua formação humana, política, cultural, docente. A partir da triangulação dos dados, do Paradigma Indiciário e da Crítica da fonte levantamos possibilidades de interpretação para os percursos formativos dos professores, sem tentar obter um discurso absoluto, mas ampliar nosso olhar sobre o presente. Evidenciamos que a formação emergencial de professores fez-se presente em toda a Região Norte, sendo a carência, a urgência e a transitoriedade marcas da formação desses professores de Matemática em Rondônia. Abstract: This research proposes to broaden the understanding of the history of teacher education through PROHACAP (Program for the Qualification and Training of Lay Teachers) who worked in mathematics teaching in Rondônia. The objective of the studies is to elaborate a historical interpretation of the formative courses of mathematics teachers in Rondônia who acted as laymen. We approach the period from 1999 to 2007 to understand the training paths of these professionals. In order to study the formation undergone by the lay teachers in the course of their teaching practice, we use situations of the rondonian educational context previous to the academic formation. We use Cultural History, History of Present Time and use diverse sources such as: oral sources, images, legislation, official documents, newspapers, materials of the Mathematics course. We mobilize the teachers' concept of tactics (see CERTEAU) to interpret the mishaps and pathways of their formation human, political, cultural, educational. From the triangulation of the data, the Indicial Paradigm and the Critique of the source we raise possibilities of interpretation for the formative paths of teachers, without trying to obtain an absolute discourse, but to widen our look at the present. We show that the emergence of teachers' training was present throughout the North Region, with the lack, urgency and transitoriness of the training of teachers of Mathematics in Rondônia. Mot propre au langage juridique, l’illicéité signifie la contrariété au droit. Oscillant entre l’illégalité et l’injustice, elle est une catégorie juridique souvent rejetée par les pénalistes. En réalité, l’illicéité aborde les interdits posés par le droit pénal à partir de leurs essences. Elle peut ainsi apparaître inutile et même dangereuse – en droit pénal la contrariété au droit est synonyme d’illégalité et le juge pénal n’a pas à se demander si le comportement poursuivi est en outre injuste. Néanmoins, il convient de ne pas oublier que « même pénale, la loi n’a pas tous les droits » et que les dispositions pénales n’ont pas comme unique destinataire le juge. À l’heure où il est de plus en plus question de regénéralisation et de rethéorisation du droit pénal, l’illicéité mérite en effet d’être placée au centre des réflexions pénalistes, car elle invite à s’intéresser à ce qui est essentiel dans les interdits pénalement consacrés en fonction des besoins et capacités du destinataire principal des dispositions pénales – le profane. En mesure de recouvrir ce qu’on peut réellement attendre d’un non-spécialiste, l’illicéité indique ainsi ce qui doit guider la détermination et la définition des infractions pour que le droit pénal soit légitime et effectif. Dans cette perspective, pour saisir ce que constitue l’essence des interdits pénalement consacrés, il ne suffit pas de se référer aux dispositions pénales mais il faut exploiter entièrement les normes et valeurs révélées par la conscience sociale qui exercent une influence déterminante sur le droit pénal. Car si les repères proprement pénaux ne sont pas en mesure de dévoiler à eux seuls l’essence des interdits, la conscience sociale fournit des critères de justice objectifs et opérationnels adaptés au profane permettant d’aborder adéquatement le droit pénal dans le cadre de l’ensemble normatif dans lequel il s’insère
Illicitness, a word particular to the legal language signifies the defiance of the law. Oscillating between illegality and injustice, it is a legal category often rejected by French criminal lawyers. In reality, illicitness touches the essence of the prohibitions posed by the criminal law. It can thus appear unnecessary and even dangerous – in criminal law the defiance of the law is synonymous with illegality and the criminal judge does not have to wonder if the continued behaviour is also unjust. Nevertheless, we should not forget that “even criminal, the law does not have all the rights” and that criminal provisions are not only intended for the judge. At a time when it is increasingly a question of re-generalisation and re-theorisation of the criminal law, illicitness merits being placed in effect at the centre of the criminal lawyers’ reflections, for it invites interest in what is essential in the prohibitions enacted as criminal by reference to the main recipient of the criminal provisions – the layman. Able to cover what you can really expect from a non-lawyer, illicitness indicates in this way what must guide the determination and the definition of the offences in order that the criminal law is legitimate and effective. In this perspective, in order to grasp what animates deeply the restrictions laid down as criminal, it is not enough to refer to the provisions but it is necessary also to fully exploit the norms and values revealed by the social conscience which exerts a decisive influence on the criminal law. For if the strictly criminal bench marks are not by themselves able to reveal what gives meaning to the forbidden, social awareness provides the objective and operational criteria of illicitness adapted to the layman to adequately address the criminal law in the framework of the normative set in which it fits

Pastarasis magistro darbas buvo skirtas Pasauliečių pranciškonų ordino, kaip organizuoto pasauliečių katalikų susivienijimo Šv. Pranciškaus Asyžiečio (Bernardinų) parapijoje, veiklos analizei. Teorinėje dalyje pristatyta ordino įkūrėjo Šv. Pranciškaus Asyžiečio įtaka, ordino ir jo regulų raida istorijos bėgyje, ordino veikla Lietuvoje. Toliau pagal Bažnyčios dokumentus nagrinėjamas šiuolaikinių katalikiškų pasauliečių susivienijimų veikimas bei kaip tai atliepia OFS Bernardinų parapijoje. Ketvirtoje darbo dalyje pateikiamos rekomendacijos OFS veiklos Šv. Pranciškaus Asyžiečio (Bernardinų) parapijoje tobulinimui. Baigiamoje darbo dalyje buvo pateiktos rekomendacijos ir išvados, kurių pagrindinės buvo: 1. Šv. Pranciškaus Asyžiečio įkurto atgailos brolių ir sesių ordino skiriamasis bruožas buvo brolių ir seserų pasaulietiškumas. Pranciškonų pasauliečių ordino veikimas Lietuvoje tyrinėtas yra labai nedaug. Suvokiant šiuolaikinį visuomenės gyvenimo kontekstą „veikimas“ šiandien nebėra pagrindinis dėmuo OFS gyvenime. 2. Šiuo metu Šv. Pranciškaus Asyžiečio parapijoje pasauliečių veikimas organizuojamas gana neblogai: maldos ir giedojimo grupėmis, brolijomis. Tiek Jaupra pažadas tiek OFS įžadai sudaro galimybę tikinčiajam konkrečiai įsipareigoti Kristui vietos – Bernardinų – parapijoje. 3. Vis dėlto Šv. The purpose of this Master‘s thesis is to analyze the activity of the layman Franciscan Order as organized community of laymen Catholics in the parish of St. Francis of Assisi (Bernadines). Theoretical part presents the impact of the founder of the order – St. Francis of Assisi, the development of the order and it’s regula throughout the history, the activity of the order in Lithuania. Further the activity of the contemporary Catholic laymen communities is analized according to the documents of the Church and how the OFS responds to that int the parish of Bernardines. In the Fourth part of the thesis the recomendations are given for the improvement of the activity of the OFS in the parish of St. Francis of Assisi (Bernadines). The main recommendations and conclusions of the final part of the thesis are: 1. The distinguishing feature of the order of the brothers and sisters of penance established by St Francis of Assisi is that the brothers and sisters are lay. The activity of the layman Franciscan Order in the Lithuania was analyzed very little. Considering the context of the contemporary society life, the “activity” nowadays is no more the main component in the life of the OFS. 2. Currently the activity of the laymen in the parish of St. Francis of Assisi is being organized well enough: in prayer and singing groups, in fraternities. In his 1987 essay "Canadian Poetry After Auschwitz," Michael Greenstein argues that A.M. Klein's mock-heroic poem, The Hitleriad (1944), ultimately fails to portray the severity and tragedy of the Holocaust because "it lacks the necessary historical distance for coping with the enormity" of the event (1). Greenstein's criticism is interesting because it suggests that in order for a writer to adequately represent the horrors of a traumatic event like the Holocaust it is "necessary" for him to be distanced from the event. While Greenstein specifically addresses historical (or temporal) distance, Canadian authors writing about the Holocaust have also, inevitably, had to negotiate their geographical and cultural distance from the historical event as well. Not surprisingly, their works tend to be immensely self-reflexive in nature, reflecting an awareness of the questions of authority and problems of representation that have shaped critical thinking about Holocaust literature for over half a century. This dissertation examines the role that distance has played in the creation and critical understanding of representative works of Canadian Holocaust literature. It begins with an extensive analysis of the poetry and prose of geographically-distanced poet A.M. Klein, whose work is unique in the Canadian literary canon in that it mirrors the shifting psychological state of members of the Canadian Jewish community as news of the Holocaust slowly trickled into Canada. This is followed by a discussion of the Holocaust texts of Irving Layton and Leonard Cohen, both of whom experimented with increasingly graphic Holocaust imagery in their works in response to the increasingly more horrifying information about the concentration camps that entered the Canadian public conscience in the 1960s. The dissertation then turns its attention to the uniquely post-memorial and semi-autobiographical works of two children of Holocaust survivors, Bernice Eisenstein and J.J. Steinfeld, before focusing on the Holocaust works of Timothy Findley and Yann Martel, both of whom produce highly metafictional novels in order to respond to the questions of appropriation and ethical representation that often surround works of Holocaust fiction created by non-Jewish writers. The dissertation concludes with an analysis of Anne Michaels' novel Fugitive Pieces—a text that addresses all three types of distance that stand at the center of this dissertation, and that illustrates many of the strategies of representation that Canadian writers have adopted in their attempts to negotiate, highlight, erase, and embrace the distance that separates them from the Holocaust.

Mot propre au langage juridique, l’illicéité signifie la contrariété au droit. Oscillant entre l’illégalité et l’injustice, elle est une catégorie juridique souvent rejetée par les pénalistes. En réalité, l’illicéité aborde les interdits posés par le droit pénal à partir de leurs essences. Elle peut ainsi apparaître inutile et même dangereuse – en droit pénal la contrariété au droit est synonyme d’illégalité et le juge pénal n’a pas à se demander si le comportement poursuivi est en outre injuste. Néanmoins, il convient de ne pas oublier que « même pénale, la loi n’a pas tous les droits » et que les dispositions pénales n’ont pas comme unique destinataire le juge. À l’heure où il est de plus en plus question de regénéralisation et de rethéorisation du droit pénal, l’illicéité mérite en effet d’être placée au centre des réflexions pénalistes, car elle invite à s’intéresser à ce qui est essentiel dans les interdits pénalement consacrés en fonction des besoins et capacités du destinataire principal des dispositions pénales – le profane. En mesure de recouvrir ce qu’on peut réellement attendre d’un non-spécialiste, l’illicéité indique ainsi ce qui doit guider la détermination et la définition des infractions pour que le droit pénal soit légitime et effectif. Dans cette perspective, pour saisir ce que constitue l’essence des interdits pénalement consacrés, il ne suffit pas de se référer aux dispositions pénales mais il faut exploiter entièrement les normes et valeurs révélées par la conscience sociale qui exercent une influence déterminante sur le droit pénal. Car si les repères proprement pénaux ne sont pas en mesure de dévoiler à eux seuls l’essence des interdits, la conscience sociale fournit des critères de justice objectifs et opérationnels adaptés au profane permettant d’aborder adéquatement le droit pénal dans le cadre de l’ensemble normatif dans lequel il s’insère
Illicitness, a word particular to the legal language signifies the defiance of the law. Oscillating between illegality and injustice, it is a legal category often rejected by French criminal lawyers. In reality, illicitness touches the essence of the prohibitions posed by the criminal law. It can thus appear unnecessary and even dangerous – in criminal law the defiance of the law is synonymous with illegality and the criminal judge does not have to wonder if the continued behaviour is also unjust. Nevertheless, we should not forget that “even criminal, the law does not have all the rights” and that criminal provisions are not only intended for the judge. At a time when it is increasingly a question of re-generalisation and re-theorisation of the criminal law, illicitness merits being placed in effect at the centre of the criminal lawyers’ reflections, for it invites interest in what is essential in the prohibitions enacted as criminal by reference to the main recipient of the criminal provisions – the layman. Able to cover what you can really expect from a non-lawyer, illicitness indicates in this way what must guide the determination and the definition of the offences in order that the criminal law is legitimate and effective. In this perspective, in order to grasp what animates deeply the restrictions laid down as criminal, it is not enough to refer to the provisions but it is necessary also to fully exploit the norms and values revealed by the social conscience which exerts a decisive influence on the criminal law. For if the strictly criminal bench marks are not by themselves able to reveal what gives meaning to the forbidden, social awareness provides the objective and operational criteria of illicitness adapted to the layman to adequately address the criminal law in the framework of the normative set in which it fits

Par commodité, le corpus oresmien est souvent scindé en deux parties. L'une, scientifique, regrouperait ses traités scientifiques et ses commentaires universitaires en philosophie naturelle. L'autre, politique et morale, comprendrait les traductions en français de la Politique, des Économiques, et de l'Éthique à Nicomaque d'Aristote. Cependant, une telle dichotomie présente bien des inconvénients. Tout d'abord, un tel schématisme ne laisse pas de place aux écrits dits « polémiques » d'Oresme contre l'astrologie prédictive, ni à son traité monétaire. Il convient d'ailleurs de remarquer que, tout au long de sa carrière, et pour ces ouvrages en particulier, Nicole Oresme a pratiqué l'écriture, la traduction et l'auto-traduction en français. D'autre part, si, du point de vue de la réalité historique, cette distinction créé l'illusion de deux auteurs distincts, elle tend aussi à imposer une différence d'importance entre les deux pans de l'œuvre de Nicole Oresme et nie, justement, l'idée d'un œuvre unifiée par un auteur, et un projet. Or, l'adoption du français comme langue d'écriture tout au long de sa vie nous en fournit un indice. La rédaction à la fin de sa carrière d'un texte en vernaculaire et d'une grande complexité scientifique tel que le Livre du Ciel et du Monde en constitue un autre. Les déclarations qui émaillent tous les textes de Nicole Oresme sur le but de la connaissance et les méthodes argumentatives mises en œuvre pour y parvenir constituent encore une autre piste de réflexion. Le but de ce travail est donc de suivre les chemins empruntés par Oresme dans ses écrits, reconstituer son itinéraire en tant qu'auteur, et de montrer que le philosophe normand a établi un projet, affermi au cours des années, au cœur duquel se trouve une conception originale et unifiée de l'homme, de son rapport au savoir, et de son rapport aux autres
For the sake of convenience, the oresmian corpus has often been split into two parts. In a scientific one would be gathered his science treatises and his natural philosophy commentaries, whereas his translations into French of Aristotle's Politics, Economics and Nicomachean Ethics would belong to a political and moral one. But this dichotomy presents with a lot of flaws. First of all such a simplification doesn't take into account either the so-called pamphlets Oresme wrote against judicial astrology nor his monetary treatise. Besides, one must bear in mind that Oresme continuously wrote and translated his own writings into French, and especially those treatises. Secondly, in addition to being historically inaccurate, positing two “Oresmes” tends to suggest that one of these aspects would prevail over the other. It denies the very idea of an oeuvre, intended as unified by its author and the project he envisioned. Yet, the fact that Oresme chose to write some of his works in French all along his life indicates such a continuity. Another clue would be that he composed the Livre du Ciel et du Monde at the end of his career, a book both in French and of a great scientific complexity. To enlighten us about these matters, we can rely on the many passages Nicole Oresme devotes to knowledge and the means to attain it. The present thesis aims to walk in Oresme's steps, reconstruct his journey as an author and philosopher, and to show that he gradually established a unique and unified conception of man in all its dimensions, political as well as scientific

This thesis examines four groups of lay catholic communities on the greater ABC region to wich we denominate Catholic Community alternative arrangements. They are extra parochial communities formed by a founder, autonomously organised with regard to a moral system, cultual, symbolical, and of a network relationship. Attuned to contemporary modernity and beneath supervision of the local clergy, these catholic arrangements are characterized by a ruled and hierarquical life, focused on serving a specific target audience, recovering, adjusting, combining religious Catholic doctrine to glossolalia practice, deliverance and soul healing. The organizational structures of the arrangements, the socio-religious antecedents of its members also their ability to adapt forward to social surroundings, were analyzed through an ethnographic research. It was found that these Catholic arrangements are places that allow their leaders to exercise at best autonomy its catholicity in a more intimate and spiratualized character. We understand t hat these Catholic arrangements composse certain type of Catholicisms consultancy that assist its clients in the inner healing, at the same time that, devices or helpers to Catholic Apostolic Church, in order to keep it strategically in contemporary modernity. The elements that give cohesion and symbolic strength to this communities were analyzed with Bourdieus and Durkheimians categories. Elements such as websites, badges and saints bastions, have become important referential that guide the daily life of the Catholics arrangements.
Esta tese analisa quatro comunidades leigas católicas na região do Grande ABC e que denominamos Arranjos Comunitários Alternativos Católicos. São comunidades extra paroquiais constituídas a partir de um fundador e organizadas autonomamente no que diz respeito a um sistema moral, cúltico, símbólico e de networks. Sintonizadas com a modernidade contemporânea e sob a fiscalização do clero local, os arranjos católicos caracterizam-se por uma vida regrada, hierarquizada, voltada ao atendimento de um público-alvo específico recompondo, adaptando, combinando a doutrina religiosa católica com práticas de glossolalia, de cura e libertação da alma. Analisamos por meio de uma pesquisa etnográfica as estruturas organizacionais dos arranjos, os antecedentes sócio-religiosos dos seus membros e sua capacidade de adaptação frente ao entorno social. Constatou-se que os arranjos católicos são espaços que permitem às suas lideranças exercerem com maior autonomia sua catolicidade de caráter mais intimista e espiritualizada. Entendemos que os arranjos católicos são um tipo de catolicismo de consultoria auxiliando os seus clientes na chamada cura interior , ao mesmo tempo que, dispositivos ou braços auxiliadores da ICAR, a fim de mantê-la estrategicamente na modernidade contemporânea. Os elementos que dão coesão e força simbólica às comunidades em questão são analisadas com categorias durkheimianas e bourdianas. Tais elementos, como os sites, emblemas e os santos baluartes, tornaram-se importantes referenciais que direcionam o cotidiano dos arranjos católicos.

This thesis is divided into two parts: an English part in one volume and an Arabic part in two volumes. The first part consists of six chapters. The first chapter deals with the political life and social context of al-Andalus in the 8th/14th century. The second concentrates on the intellectual life of al-Andalus; in this chapter the most important intellectual and cultural activities that flourished during the 8th/14th century are discussed in some detail and examples from each of these cultural activities are given. Chapter 3 draws on primary sources to review the development of poetry and prose in the 8th/14th century. The fourth chapter discusses the four main source materials used in this thesis and goes on to cover the life of Ibn Layūn in some detail, including his education. The eastern influences on his education are also discussed. His important students such as Ibn al-Khatīb, Ibn Khātima and al-Hadramī are also mentioned in this chapter, which again relies on important primary sources written by Ibn Layūn, his students and his contemporaries. In chapter 5 Ibn Layūn’s works (those which are extant as well as those which have not survived) are discussed in greater detail, along with his unrivalled ability to summarise other important works. After looking at some factors which influenced his writings, this chapter examines his rajaz and, in particular, existing manuscripts of two of Ibn Layūn’s urjuza: al-Iksīr  and al-Ibdā’al-Malāha wa-Inhā’al-Rajāha fī Usūl Sinā ‘at al-Filāhā. Comments are made especially on the edition of the second of these urjūza. The final chapter in this part is a critical study of the text and discusses in more detail its contents, sources and the methods used by the author. The book is compared to other works such as al-‘Iqd al-Farīd, ‘Uyūn al-Akhbār and al-Tamthīl wa-al-Muhādara. The method of editing is also explained. A detailed critical description of the manuscripts is also given in this chapter. The second part of this thesis comprises an edited version of Ibn Layūn’s important anthology Bughyat al-Muā’nis relying on four important manuscripts, one of which goes back to the time of the author, together with a footnoted commentary on the Burghya and other relevant material on variant readings. Included also in the second part are indices, an appendix and bibliography for the edited text. The indices cover Quranic verses, hadīths, proverbs and sayings of wisdom, poetic verses in accordance to their rhymes, poetic hemistiches, names of persons, names of tribes and clans, names of towns, cities and other places. They also cover titles of works mentioned by Ibn Layūn and titles of sources and references used in verifying Ibn Layūn’s work.

Cette thèse d’histoire sociale, fondée sur « l’individualisme méthodologique », donne à l’individu et à l’action individuelle une place considérable dans la société entre le début du IVe siècle et la fin du VIe siècle, et ne s’intéresse pas en soi à la communauté des chrétiens. À partir d’un échantillon constitué de cent quatre-Vingt-Dix-Huit personnages d’Italie et d’Afrique, cette thèse se propose de mettre en lumière les manifestations de l’être-Chrétien, en étudiant le faire, le croire et le dire des chrétiens, ce que nous avons regroupé sous le nom de christianité, d’après le néologisme das Christlichkeit, fondé par le philosophe F. Nietzsche. L’analyse des sources mettant en lumière la foi de ces individus a conduit l’auteur à procéder à des classifications, retenant quatre catégories de gestes et deux modes d’expression. Les gestes primaires sont ceux qui sont typiquement chrétiens et qu’on ne retrouve pas sous cette forme, dans les autres religions. Les gestes secondaires sont des réappropriations chrétiennes de gestes qui existent déjà dans le monde romain. Les gestes à caractère social traite des réseaux sociaux du chrétien et le geste militant met en lumière les actions que le chrétien peut effectuer pour défendre sa religion. Le chrétien exprime sa foi de deux façons différentes, soit par l’expression écrite, soit à travers son corps. Deux parties, constituées au total de huit chapitres, composent cette thèse. Elles s’intitulent dans l’ordre d’apparition : « Les chrétien et le monde. Vivre en chrétien dans la société romaine » et « Les chrétien, les clercs et l’Église »
The approach of this dissertation is based not on the Christian community but on social history, and focuses on the issues of “Methodological individualism”, of which individuals form the social dynamics between the beginning of the 4th century and the end of the 6th century. Based on a sample of 198 individuals from Italy and Roman Africa, this thesis highlights the social manifestations of the Christian-Being by studying the Christians’s ways of doing, believing and saying, grouped together in what we have called their Christianess, according to the neologism das Christlichkeit coined by F. Nietzsche. In this dissertation, the author carried out the analysis of primary sources highlighting the faith of the Christians, which helped him to draw up a classification, comprising four different actions and two forms of expression. Primary actions are those deemed to be typically Christian, since this kind of behavior cannot be found in this form in any other religions of the Roman World. Secondary actions are those which already existed in the Roman Society, and are re-Used by Christians. Social actions deal with the networks of the faithful Christians, and lastly militant actions demonstrate the ability of Christians to stand up for their beliefs. The fellow Christians express their faith into two different ways, in writing and with their body. Two main parts compose this dissertation, made up of eight chapters, entitled - in order of appearance - as follows : “The Christians and the World. Living as a Christian in the roman society”and “The Christians, the Clerics and the Church”

L’étude des romans attribués à Robert de Boron s’inscrit dans le sillage des travaux sur l’autoréflexivité romanesque et auctoriale, ainsi que sur le développement et la diffusion du mythe du Saint-Graal. Robert de Boron apparaît comme le fondateur d’une importante tradition graalienne, explicitement associée à la figure du Christ et promise à un avenir littéraire considérable. Nous croyons que l’approche mythopoétique, qui permet à la littérature de créer des mythes, s’accorde avec les enjeux socio-historiques des laïcs, ce qui explique pourquoi le projet de Robert s’est étendu jusqu’au cycle du Lancelot -Graal où il a servi de fondation à la chevalerie célestiele. Dans la première partie de ce travail, nous examinons le Saint-Graal et la tradition incarnée par Robert (occurrences, scènes, senefiance et Hauts Livres). Dans la deuxième partie, nous étudions la figure de Robert (éléments de biographie, figure auctoriale, autorité). La dernière partie nous donne l’occasion de remettre les mythes littéraires dans leur contexte afin de montrer qu’ils sont transformés en mythes socio-historiques grâce au savant mélange du discours laïque et du discours clérical
The study of the French romances attributed to Robert de Boron lies within the recent works on self reflexivity in medieval literature and on the rise and spreading of the Holy Grail myth. Robert de Boron has become known as the founder of a new Grail tradition, explicitly related to Jesus Christ and destined to a great popularity. We think that mythopoétique approach, which allows literature to create myths, is consistent with the socio-historical issues of the laity, which is why Robert’s undertaking has spread to the Lancelot-Grail cycle where it served as the foundation of celestial chivalry. This dissertation consists of three main parts. In the first one, we examine the occurrences of the « Holy Grail » expression in the selected books. Furthermore, we go deeper in our analysis of the Grail tradition embodied by Robert de Boron. In the second part of the thesis, we focus of the figure of Robert, by studying some biographical information, his status as a writer and the nature of medieval authority and authorship. The last section of our work gives us the opportunity to set the literary myths in context to show that they are transformed into socio-historical myths through both secular and clerical discourses in the Arthurian romances

A vila ferroviária de Paranapiacaba, pertencente ao município de Santo André (SP), tem seu núcleo urbano localizado no topo da Serra do Mar, recebendo originalmente a denominação de Alto da Serra. Sua origem deveu-se à construção da primeira ferrovia paulista, a São Paulo Railway Company Ltd (SPR), empresa constituída em Londres, responsável também pela implantação e administração das Vilas Velha e Martin Smith. O trabalho realizou o levantamento, análise e discussão das transformações da vila ferroviária de Paranapiacaba, em especial de sua arquitetura e dos traçados dos três núcleos urbanos existentes, a Parte Alta, a Vila Velha e a Vila Martin Smith, cujas implantações se deram em momentos distintos e de formas diferentes. Constatamos que no período de 1860 a 1946, em que a SPR esteve sob controle inglês, foi instalada em Paranapiacaba uma moderna infra-estrutura urbanística para a realidade brasileira daquela época, representando um exemplo pioneiro e único de cidade empresarial projetada, construída e administrada pela SPR, que ainda preserva parte significativa de suas características arquitetônicas e urbanísticas originais.
The railway Paranapiacaba village, which belongs to the city of Santo André (SP), has its urban ucleus located at the top of a mountain range called Serra do Mar, and it was previously called Alto da Serra. Its origin comes from the building of the first railway in the state, the São Paulo Railway Company Ltd (SPR), the british company was also responsible for the planning, construction and administration of Vila Velha and Martin Smith village. This work has made a data collecting, analysis and discussion of the changing of railway Paranapiacaba village, especially its architecture and the town planning in three different nuclei Parte Alta, Vila Velha and Martin Smith Village, whose settlement happened in distinct moments and in different ways. During the years 1860 and 1946, when SPR was under british control, was built a modern urban substructure for the time in Brazil, representing a pioneer and the only example of an enterprising city which was projected, built and administrated by SPR, that till today has still kept most of its original architecture and urban characteristics.

La chanson de geste et le roman arthurien en prose aux XIIe et XIIIe siècles dépeignent un univers largement guerrier. Mais loin d’en donner une signification homogène, les œuvres narrent différents types de conflits, des plus terrestres aux plus spirituels, et font entendre des voix diverses – y compris celle du jongleur ou du narrateur – qui tantôt justifient la violence collective, tantôt la condamnent, selon des critères variables. Cette pensée complexe de la guerre s’éclaire lorsqu’on replace les discours littéraires au cœur d’un dialogue avec d’autres textes – surtout ecclésiastiques – concernant l’activité guerrière et sa légitimité : ainsi, la manière de concevoir le sens de la lutte, dans des fictions destinées en premier lieu à un public noble, puise dans des systèmes de valeurs parfois opposés mais aussi complémentaires, laïcs et cléricaux. L’enjeu des relations conflictuelles tel que l’expriment les récits dépend également de schémas d’organisation intellectuelle qui sous-tendent une représentation de l’ordre : la guerre est conçue positivement lorsqu’elle vise à défendre ou à établir une certaine organisation du monde et de la société, parfois fondée sur une exigence de continuité et d’unité du pouvoir, parfois au contraire nourrie par une aspiration à la totalité. En dernier lieu, la valeur de la lutte dépend de son rôle dans la destinée humaine, ce que l’épopée et le roman expriment chacun selon un régime d’historicité distinct : les discours de la guerre sont donc aussi fonction des spécificités poétiques des formes littéraires, de leur écriture de l’histoire, et de la façon dont elles organisent le temps
12th and 13th century chansons de gestes and prose Arthurian romances depict a largely warlike universe. But, far from giving an homogeneous interpretation of it, these works narrate different types of conflicts, from the more earthly to the more spiritual, and let diverse voices be heard – including that of the juggler or of the narrator – which sometimes justify collective violence, sometimes condemn it, according to different criteria. This complex view of war can be better understood if we place these literary discourses at the center of a dialogue with other kinds of texts – mainly ecclesiastical – about war and its legitimacy : thus, the way in which the meaning of fighting is conceived in fictions first of all destined to a noble audience is rooted in sets of values which are sometimes opposed but also complementary, lay and ecclesiastical. The stakes of the conflictual relationships as they are expressed in the narratives also depend on the intellectual constructions underlying a representation of order : war is conceived positively when its aim is to defend or to establish a certain organization of the world and of society, sometimes based on a requirement for continuity and unity of power, sometimes drawing on the contrary on an aspiration for totality. Background: It has been proved that bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) saves lives; however, which training method in CPR is most instructive and whether survival is affected by the training level of the bystander have not yet been fully described. Aim: To identify the factors that may affect 7th grade students’ acquisition of CPR skills during CPR training and their willingness to act, and to describe 30-day survival from outof- hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) after bystander CPR and the actions performed by laymen versus off-duty medically educated personnel. Methods: Studies I–III investigate a CPR training intervention given to students in 7th grade during 2013–2014. The classes were randomized to the main intervention: the mobile phone application (app) or DVD-based training. Some of the classes were randomized to one or several additional interventions: a practical test with feedback, reflection, a web course, a visit from elite athletes and automated external defibrillator (AED) training. The students’ practical skills, willingness to act and knowledge of stroke symptoms, symptoms of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and lifestyle factors were assessed directly after training and at 6 months using the Laerdal PC SkillReporting system (and entered into a modified version of the Cardiff test scoring sheet) and a questionnaire. The Cardiff test resulted in a total score of 12–48 points, and the questionnaire resulted in a total score of 0–7 points for stroke symptoms, 0–9 points for symptoms of AMI and 0– 6 points on lifestyle factors. Study IV is based on retrospective data from the national quality register, the Swedish registry of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, 2010-2014. Results: A total of 1339 students were included in the CPR training intervention. The DVD-based group was superior to the app-based group in CPR skills, with a total score of 35 (SD 4.o) vs 33 (SD 4.2) points directly after training (p<0.001) and 33 (SD 4.0) vs 31 (SD 4.2) points at six months (p<0.001). Of the additional interventions, the practical test with feedback had the greatest influence regarding practical skills: at six months the intervention group scored 32 (SD 3.9) points and the control group (CPR only) scored 30 (SD 4.0) points (p<0.001). Reflection, the web course, visits from elite athletes and AED training did not further increase the students’ acquisition of practical CPR skills. The students who completed the web course Help-Brain-Heart received a higher total score for theoretical knowledge in comparison with the control group, directly after training: stroke 3.8 (SD 1.8) vs 2.7 (SD 2.0) points (p<0.001); AMI 4.0 (SD 2.0) vs 2.5 (SD 2.0) points (p<0.001); lifestyle factors 5.4 (SD 1.2) vs 4.5 (SD 2.0) points p<0.001. Most of the students (77% at 6 months), regardless of the intervention applied, expressed that they would perform both chest compressions and ventilations in a cardiac arrest (CA) situation involving a relative. If a stranger had CA, a significantly lower proportion of students (32%; p<0.001) would perform both compressions and ventilations. In this case, however, many would perform compressions only. In most cases of bystander-witnessed OHCA, CPR was performed by laymen. Off-duty health care personnel bystanders initiated CPR within 1 minute vs 2 minutes for laymen (p<0.0001). Thirty-day survival was 14.7% among patients who received CPR from laymen and 17.2% (p=0.02) among patients who received bystander CPR from off-duty health care personnel. Conclusions: The DVD-based method was superior to the app-based method in terms of teaching practical CPR skills to 7th grade students. Of the additional interventions, a practical test with feedback was the most efficient intervention to increase learning outcome. The additional interventions, reflection, web course, visit from elite athletes and AED did not increase CPR skills further. However, the web course Help-Brain-Heart improved the students’ acquisition of theoretical knowledge regarding stroke, AMI and lifestyle factors. For OHCA, off-duty health care personnel bystanders initiated CPR earlier and 30-day survival was higher compared with laymen bystanders.
