Resumen
Nowadays, more than ever, environmental awareness is being taken into account when it comes to the design of novel materials. Herein, the pathway to the creation of a colloid of spherical, almost purely metallic nickel nanoparticles (NPs) through pulsed laser ablation in ethanol is presented. A complex description of the colloid is provided through UV-vis spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering analysis, ensuring insight into laser-induced nanoparticle homogenization and size-control of the NPs. The transmission electron spectroscopy revealed spherical nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution, whereas the energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy accompanied by the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed their metallic nature. Furthermore, an example of the application of the colloidal nanoparticles is presented, where a quick, five-min ultrasound modification results in over an order of magnitude higher current densities in the titania-based electrode for the oxygen evolution reaction.

Resumen
Abstract The method of pulsed laser ablation in liquids (PLAL) is applied for synthesis of composite nanostructures on the basis of TiOx and ZnO combined with noble metals like Au, Pt and Pd. The metallic plate immersed in water is laser ablated by nanosecond Nd:YAG pulsed laser irradiation. Its fundamental wavelength and the fourth harmonic are used, respectively, to produce and to modify the morphology and structure of the nano-objects. The synthesis procedure consists of two consecutive steps: laser ablation of the selected metal targets followed by unfocused laser beam irradiation of the initial colloids of nanostructures. The phase composition, structural and the shape and size morphological features were assessed by analytical method – transmission electron microscopy (TEM) in its main modes – Bright Field TEM (BF TEM), High Resolution TEM (HRTEM) and Selected Area Electron Diffraction (SAED). Formation of bimetallic polycrystalline alloys and Pt/Ti(TixOy) and Pd/Ti(TixOy) core-shell nanoparticles was founded.

Resumen
Nowadays, Al2O3-based ceramic coatings have attracted considerable attention for their potential applications as tritium permeation barrier (TPB) in the nuclear reactor. Herein, dense composite ceramic coatings (Al2O3-TiC) have been successfully fabricated by a facile laser-assisted combustion method. The precursor Al-TiO2-C powder mixture underwent combustion synthesis at high temperatures generated by an incident laser, and Al2O3-TiC coatings were thus obtained. Their crystal structures and morphologies were monitored by x-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The laser processing parameters, including laser power and laser scanning speed, have been found to play an important role in the microstructure of the products. The optimal laser processing parameters for obtaining Al2O3-TiC coating were 4kW in laser power and 6mm/s in laser scanning speed. The results in this paper may be beneficial to the future study of other coatings fabricated by laser-assisted combustion.

Resumen
Purpose: The development and clinical study of improved femtosecond laser-assisted phacoemulsification (PE) technology of hard nucleus cataract.Patients and methods. Improved femtosecond laser-assisted PE of hard nucleus cataract performed in 83 patients (93 eyes) (1st group), known femtosecond laser-assisted PE technique performed in 72 patients (78 eyes) (2nd group), torsional PE performed in 81 patients (89 eyes) (3rd group). The degree of intraoperative myosis, effective ultrasound time, corneal endothelial cell loss were evaluated in all groups.Results. Femtosecond laser-assisted PE is an effective technique for hard nucleus cataract removal, which can significantly reduce the energy ultrasonic load on the eye tissue. The proposed method for the instillation of prostaglandin synthesis inhibitors and the observance of the minimum possible interval between the first and second stages of the operation can prevent significant intraoperative narrowing of the pupil. A significant narrowing of the pupil by more than 2 mm after the femtolaser stage was noted in 7 (7.5 %) cases in the 1st group of patients, in 15 (16.9 %) cases in the 2nd group, in 5 (6.4 %) cases in the 3rd group. The results of the study has shown a significant decrease in the effective ultrasound time for a femtosecond laser-assisted PE compared with a torsional PE. The effective ultrasound time was in the 1st group (improved technology of femtosecond laser-assisted PE) — 3.81 ± 0.75, in the 2nd group (known technology of the femtosecond laser-assisted PE) — 5.23 ± 1.07 s (p < 0.05), in the 3rd group (OZil technology) — 8.67 ± 1.83 s (p < 0.05). The decrease in the effective ultrasound time has become a determining factor in reducing the loss of corneal endothelial cells in both femtosecond laser-assisted PE technologies compared to torsional PE. The average loss of corneal endothelial cells 3 months after surgery was 8.7 ± 1.8 % in the 1st group, 10.3 ± 2.1% in the 2nd group, 13.5 ± 2.7 % (p < 0.05) in the 3rd group of patients.Conclusion. The proposed improved technology contributes to the solution of some problems that characterize femtosecond laser-assisted PE, and also helps to reduce the effective ultrasound time and the loss of corneal endothelial cells.

Resumen
Abstract We describe a laser-assisted methodology for the fabrication of Si@Au core-satellite nanostructures for photothermal therapy applications. The methodology consists in laser ablative synthesis of Si and Au NPs in water/ethanol solutions, followed by a chemical modification of the Si NPs by APTMS and their subsequent decoration by the Au NPs. We show that despite a relatively small size (< 40 nm) the formed core-satellites exhibit a strong plasmonic absorption peak centred around 610 nm and having a large tail over 700 nm overlapping with the first optical window of relative tissue transparency. Being relatively small and exempt of any toxic impurity due to ultraclean laser synthesis, the fabricated nanoparticles promise a major advancement of imaging and phototherapy modalities based on plasmonic properties of nanomatererials.

Resumen
Experimental results are presented on laser-assisted synthesis of composite nanoparticles of perovskite BaTiO3 with gold nanoparticles using the technique of laser ablation in water and aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide. Nanoparticles of BaTiO3 are generated by near IR laser radiation with pulse durations of 170 fs, 1 ps, and 200 ns. Nanoparticles of barium titanate BaTiO3 (BTO) have tetragonal structure for all used pulse durations. Two ways of synthesis are tested. In the first one a gold target is ablated in the colloidal solution of BaTiO3 nanoparticles. The second way consists of laser exposure of the mixture of colloidal solutions of nanoparticles of BaTiO3 and Au. Synthesized composite nanoparticles are characterized by optical spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-Ray diffractometry, and Transmission Electron Microscopy. Composite BaTiO3‑Au nanoparticles have the absorption band in the visible range of spectrum and demonstrate plasmonic luminescence.

Resumen
We demonstrate a hybrid laser microfabrication approach, which combines the technical merits of ultrafast laser-assisted chemical etching and carbon dioxide laser-induced in situ melting for centimeter-scale and bonding-free fabrication of 3D complex hollow microstructures in fused silica glass. With the developed approach, large-scale fused silica microfluidic chips with integrated 3D cascaded micromixing units can be reliably manufactured. High-performance on-chip mixing and continuous-flow photochemical synthesis under UV irradiation at ~280 nm were demonstrated using the manufactured chip, indicating a powerful capability for versatile fabrication of highly transparent all-glass microfluidic reactors for on-chip photochemical synthesis.

Resumen
AbstractGraphene nanosheets were prepared by pulsed Nd:YAG laser ablation of graphite target in H2O under ambient conditions. The synthesized graphene nanosheets were characterized by high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and Selected Area Electron Diffraction (SAED). The obtained structural and morphological analysis confirmed that the graphene nanosheets could be formed in an aqueous medium via one step method where a nanosecond pulsed near-infrared (NIR) laser (λ = 1064 nm) is used to ablate the surface of a pure graphite target. Compared to other used chemical methods to synthesis graphene nanosheets, laser ablation is an easy, versatile, environmental friendly and rapidly growing method for the synthesis of nanostructured materials such as graphene nanosheets. This technique showed normal operation in liquid medium (i.e. water or organic) under ambient conditions. Our study confirmed the great potential of laser ablation in liquid method for the fabrication of graphene nanosheets based nanofluids wich has a potential applicatiuon as a heat transfer fluid.

Resumen
Traditional soft ionization methods are not always suitable for mass spectral analysis of complex compounds. Factors such as laser radiation and heating resulting in fragmentations of sample molecules in the case of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization and difficulties in preparing suitable sample solutions in the case of electrospray ionization make it impossible to use these methods in some cases. Matrix-assisted ionization was used to analyze products of chemical synthesis involving pyropheophorbide and fullerene. Mass spectra were acquired using a simple effective modification of the Exactive Orbitrap mass spectrometer electrospray interface. Reliable identification of pyropheophorbide-fullerene dyad ions and its derivatives was carried out. An experimental comparison of a matrix-assisted ionization and an electrospray ionization technique demonstrated the significant advantage in sensitivity to the ions under study (approximately 20 times higher) of the matrix-assisted ionization method in this particular study.

Resumen
Al2O3-TiC composite ceramic coatings were obtained by laser-assisted combustion. Al-TiO2-C precursor powder mixture was coated on a medium-carbon steel substrate. When a laser scanned on the powder mixture, it went through combustion synthesis reaction triggered by the incident laser beam and formed the target products. The microstructure of the obtained coatings with different laser processing parameters was characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy. The laser energy density, controlled by changing laser power and laser scanning speed, was found to play an important role on the microstructure of the products. The formation mechanism of different micro-morphologies with different laser energy densities was proposed according to thermodynamic calculation.

Resumen
Amorphous/pseudoamorphous GaN was prepared by pulsed-laser ablation at room temperature without any heat treatment. The structure and chemical composition of the specimens were systematically investigated. Laser ablation at low Ar pressure (<50Pa) led to deposition of smooth Ga-rich films, which is independent with laser energy. Under same pressures, as laser energy increased, the film stoichiometry changed from Ga-rich to near stoichiometric composition. Varying background Ar pressure strongly affected the product structure showing little effect on the chemical composition. Under higher pressure than 100 Pa, fine nanoparticles with a size of 5 nm rather than films were deposited on substrate due to the increased collision by plume confining. The optical band-gap of the deposited a-GaN is 2.8 eV for thin films and 3.9 eV for nanoparticles.

Resumen
In this work, a simple method is reported for the synthesis of bundles of carbon nanostructures under room temperature and atmospheric pressure. A pulsed Nd:YAG laser (355 nm, 10 Hz) is focused into the mixture of ferrocene and xylene solutions to produce the nanostructures in which ferrocene plays the role of a catalyst while xylene is the carbon source for nanostructure growth. During the period of irradiation, the color of solution turns into dark brown from transparent orange. Upon the completion of irradiation, typically for an hour, a variety of bundles of carbon nanostructures are found in the solution. Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are used to investigate the nanostructures.

Resumen
There is growing interest in the development of novel nanomaterials with potential antimicrobial activity and lesser toxicity. In the current research work, Mn0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4nanoparticles were synthesized via a novel coprecipitation cum laser ablation technique yielding fine spinal structured material. The synthesized nanomaterial was structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction technique which confirmed the formation and the crystalline nature of Mn0.50Zn0.50Fe2O4nanomaterial. The crystallite size determined by Debye-Scherrer’s formula was found to be ~12 nm. The formation of nanoparticles was evidenced by scanning electron microscopy. Energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDXA) was performed for elemental analysis. The synthesized nanomaterial was interestingly found to be an effective antimicrobial agent and inhibited the growth ofBacillus subtilisbiofilm formation. The 5 µg of Mn0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4nanomaterial dissolved in 1 mL of DMSO showed excellent biofilm inhibitory activity 91.23% ± 1.87 againstBacillus subtilis.

Resumen
Surfactant-free nontoxic Au-Ag alloy nanoparticles were synthesized via re-irradiation of laser generated mono metallic colloidal mixtures with 532 nm radiations from Nd: YAG nanosecond laser. The impact of re-irradiating laser energy in alloy formation kinetics was investigated. The alloy formation process was analyzed with UV-Visible absorption spectra at different time intervals of laser irradiation. The generated nanoparticles were characterized with dynamic light scattering size analysis, zeta potential studies, and HRTEM imaging. Photothermal properties of the samples were investigated employing thermal lens method. Alloy formation became faster with a slight blue shift in the plasmonic band wavelength with increase in irradiation energy. Reduction in nanoparticle size and stability were also observed at high irradiation energies.
