Resumen
A model spin system S=1 with a strongly anisotropic g-factor is considered. Numerical calculations of the response of the system to an alternating magnetic field of low frequency are carried out. The influence of Landau--Zener transitions on the response of the system when it passes through the vicinity of the levels anti-crossing is studied. The ac-susceptibility is calculated and the effect of such transitions on the position of the ac-susceptibility maximum is analyzed. Keywords: level anti-crossing, quantum tunneling of magnetization, Landau--Zener transitions, ac-susceptibility, relaxation of magnetization.

Resumen
AbstractA Lagrangian surface hopping algorithm is implemented to study the two dimensional massless Dirac equation for Graphene with an electrostatic potential, in the semiclassical regime. In this problem, the crossing of the energy levels of the system at Dirac points requires a particular treatment in the algorithm in order to describe the quantum transition—characterized by the Landau-Zener probability— between different energy levels. We first derive the Landau-Zener probability for the underlying problem, then incorporate it into the surface hopping algorithm. We also show that different asymptotic models for this problem derived in [O. Morandi, F. Schurrer, J. Phys. A:Math. Theor. 44 (2011) 265301]may give different transition probabilities. We conduct numerical experiments to compare the solutions to the Dirac equation, the surface hopping algorithm, and the asymptotic models of [O. Morandi, F. Schurrer, J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 44 (2011) 265301].

Resumen
AbstractThis work suggests a connection between Landau-Zener transition probabilities between two crossing potentials in the classically accessible WKB regime and Landau-Lifshitz transition probabilities in the classically inaccessible WKB regime. It is based on the uniform Airy (UAi) approximation which represents a generalization of quantum transition probabilities for linear crossing potentials with constant coupling. The performance of the UAi approximation is tested by comparison with distorted-wave probabilities for an exponential potential model and illustrated for potentials that determine the intersection of twoab initiovibronic potential surfaces of the NO-Ar system.

Resumen
We study the influence of off-diagonal harmonic noise on transitions in a Landau–Zener model. We demonstrate that the harmonic noise can change the transition probabilities substantially and that its impact depends strongly on the characteristic frequency of the noise. In the underdamped regime of the noise process, its effect is compared with the one of a deterministic sinusoidally oscillating function. While altering the properties of the noise process allows one to engineer the transitions probabilities, driving the system with a deterministic sinusoidal function can result in larger and more controlled changes of the transition probability. This may be relevant for realistic implementations of our model with Bose–Einstein condensates in noise-driven optical lattices.

Resumen
The time-dependent pairing equations are developed to include the Landau–Zener effect and a pair breaking mechanism. The new formalism provide information about the configuration mixing and the dissipation for a dynamical evolution of a nuclear system. A formula for a nonadiabatic cranking inertia is also deduced. Results concerning cluster decay and fission processes are presented.

Resumen
Strong driving of quantum systems opens opportunities for both controlling and characterizing their states. For theoretical studying of these systems properties we use the rate-equation formalism. The advantage of such approach is its relative simplicity. We used the formalism for description of a two-level system with further expanding it on a case of a multi-level system. Obtained theoretical results have good agreement with experiments. The presented approach can also be considered as one more way to explore properties of quantum systems and underlying physical processes such as, for instance, Landau–Zener–Stückelberg–Majorana transitions and interference.

Resumen
Nanoscale systems have sizes intermediate between atomic and macroscopic ones. Therefore their treatment often requires a combination of methods from atomic and condensed matter physics. The conventional Landau-Zener theory, being a powerful tool in atomic physics, often fails to predict correctly nonadiabatic transition probabilities in various nanostructures because it does not include many-body effects typical for mesoscopics. In this research project the generalizations of the Landau-Zener theory that solve this problem were studied. The multistate, multiparticle and nonunitary extensions of the theory have been proposed and investigated. New classes of exactly solvable models have been derived. I discuss their applications in problems of the molecular condensate dissociation and of the driven charge transport. In application to the physics of nanomagnets new approaches in modeling the influence of the environment on the Landau-Zener evolution are proposed and simple universal formulas are derived for the extensions of the theory that include the coupling to noise and the nuclear spin bath.

Resumen
We present a novel type of energy trap providing targeted energy transfer (TET) in a system of weakly coupled pendulums. Our approach is based on the analogy, presented in [1, 2], between the behavior of two weakly coupled classical parametric pendulums and nonadiabatic Landau-Zener tunneling (LZT) in a two-state quantum system. The two systems, however dissimilar, turn out to be described by the same asymptotic equations. Well-known properties of LZT allow us to predict the possibility of efficient irreversible transfer of vibration energy from one subsystem to another in mechanical systems. The TET takes place when the eigenfrequency of a subsystem changes in time so that the coupled subsystems pass through internal resonance. The existence of such a phenomenon is not restricted to coupled pendulums but is inherent to a wide class of both linear and nonlinear parametric oscillatory systems. This opens up the possibility of designing new types of energy traps and absorbers for the dynamic protection of various mechanical systems. Experimental data obtained in this work corroborate theoretical predictions.

Resumen
One of the prime focuses in the design of highly adaptive granular material is in ability to passively control the flow of energy through it by means of trapping, redirection and scattering. In this study we demonstrate that one of the possible mechanisms to achieve efficient control over the propagating shock wave in the material is the usage of weakly interacting, non-compressed granular chains. In the latest computational studies we have demonstrated that the shock waves initially localized on a finite amount of chains can be efficiently redirected to the neighboring granular chains. In this work, we present an analytical and numerical approach to the concept of targeted energy transfer (TET) in granular media. We consider two weakly coupled granular chains which have on-site potential. This on-site potential arises if the granular chains are mounted on linear elastic foundation. We propose two different mechanisms for TET in granular media: (i) decouple the coupling, and (ii) stratification of the foundation. Each mechanism provides an efficient way of localization of energy in one of the two chains. For the second mechanism, one chain with varying parameter is excited by an initial impulse but coupled with another chain with constant parameter is initially at rest and we transform the governing equation of the granular chain system into two coupled oscillators and thus made an analogy between strongly nonlinear granular chain with the quantum Landau-Zener tunneling. The revealed phenomena open up the possibility of designing granular media as shock mitigators by efficiently redirecting the incoming energy to the neighboring granular chain, i.e. it gives a passive control over the incoming energy by redirecting among the granular networks.
