Resumen
The paper presents preliminary results of an analysis of 51 samples of plant macrofossils coming from various archaeological contexts from the site of Tell Arbid in Northeast Syria. The contexts were dated mainly to the 3rd millennium BC (EJI–EJV) with a few being of 2nd millennium BC date (Khabur Ware and Mitanni periods). Cultivated plants were represented by cereals and pulses. The cultivation of at least three cereal species is documented, including a hulled variety of two-rowed barley, glumed einkorn and/or emmer wheat, and a species of naked wheat, probably macaroni wheat. Vegetables included lentil, bitter vetch, grass pea, and garden pea. Plants from the Ninevite 5 period (EJI–EJII) and their significance in the Tell Arbid economy are discussed in greater detail owing to the highest number of samples studied.

Resumen
ABSTRACT Archaeological fieldwork carried out at the Tell Arbid site in north-eastern Syria exposed settlement remains dating from the early 3rd millennium BC to the mid 2nd millennium BC. Recent excavations in Sector P, on the eastern slope of the site, revealed the existence of a significant occupation of the Post-Akkadian/ Early Jazirah V period and of levels dated to the Early and Classic Khabur Ware/Old Jazirah/Middle Bronze Age I-II periods. Cereal remains were dominated by grains and ear fragments of hulled two-rowed barley Hordeum distichon. Less numerous were wheats represented by emmer Triticum dicoccon, einkorn T. monococcum, and macaroni wheat T. durum. The presence of bread wheat T. aestivum and six-rowed barley Hordeum vulgare could not be excluded. The two periods contained similar sets of cereals, but in the Post-Akkadian Period the percentage of hulled wheat remains was higher, while in the Middle Bronze Age (particularly in its younger phase) naked wheat slightly exceeded hulled wheats. Legumes were represented by only very few seeds of lentil Lens culinaris and bitter vetch Vicia ervilia. Diaspores of wild plants were very abundant, particularly those from the families of grasses and legumes. The considerable number of ear and culm fragments probably belonging to cereals as well as numerous seeds/fruits of wild plants suggests that the plant remains originated from fodder or animal dung or belonged to threshing waste. The presence of grass stems with nodes indicated that cereals were reaped low on the straw; occasional use of uprooting was suggested by the occurrence of basal culm fragments with traces of rootlets.

Open Forum Infectious Diseases 9, Supplement_2 (1 de diciembre de 2022). http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/ofid/ofac492.507.

Resumen
Abstract Background In 2007, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) implemented the methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) Prevention Initiative nationally in acute care facilities (ACFs). Since that time, numerous publications have reported declining transmission rates and infection rates due to MRSA across the VA. Recent estimates of the impact of contact precautions (CP) on transmission suggest that the infectiousness of patients while on CP was 50% lower than patients not on CP. We extend that work by estimating the variation and trend in transmission while accounting for the estimated impact of CP on transmission. Methods We analyzed ten years of data from 108 VA ACFs from 1/1/2008 – 12/31/2017 using a Bayesian transmission model. The data included admission, discharge, and surveillance and clinical test results for MRSA. Data were partitioned into five 2-year analysis periods to allow for estimates of transmission to change over time, including all facilities with complete data spanning the 10-year study period. We estimated person-to-person transmission rates for each ward assuming the classic mass-action transmission framework, while accounting for the impact of CP on transmission, and used random effect models with inverse variance weights to derive pooled estimates of the transmission rates and trends across ward-types and over time. Results In this cohort study of 108 VA hospitals during the 10-year period, more than 2 million unique individuals had over 5.6 million admissions with more than 8.4 million MRSA surveillance tests (9.3% of which were positive). We observed a decline in the overall transmission rate over time, with the reduction driven by declining rates of transmission in the ICU setting (Figure 1). We observed that the transmission rate in medical/surgical wards remained constant during the 10-year period. Transmission trend by ward Conclusion We observed that in addition to the two-fold reduction in transmission of MRSA associated with CPs, that over the study period, the transmission rate declined in VA hospitals driven largely by reductions in the ICU setting. The secular trend downward in ICUs might reflect improved hand hygiene, changes in antibiotic use, or enhancements to other infection control practices. Additional work is needed to better understand and identify these factors. Disclosures Karim Khader, PhD, BioFire Diagnostics: Grant/Research Support.

Abstract This article discusses the role of the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public Services (CUEPACS) in an effort to raise wages for a civil servant in the Federation of Malaya (FM) between 1957 until 1970. In 1957, FM achieved independence and simultaneously, the FM administration shifted from the British colonial government to the FM government. In line with that, the public service has undergone various changes. However, in terms of wages received by a civil servant, no changes were made. This is because a civil servant who has served after independence still receive the same wages when they are under the administration of the British colonial government. However, the increase in the standard of living after independence has affected the civil servant as the increase is not in line with their wages. At the same time, the study also touches on the role of CUEPACS to create wage equality between women and men in the civil service. Hence, the main focus of the discussion is to identify what CUEPACS's action is to demand wages increase for civil servants and wages equality between women and men. In addition, this study also assesses the extent of the collaboration between CUEPACS and the FM government in the effort to increase the wages of a civil servant in FM. Information on the role of CUEPACS in the effort to improve the wages increase and wages equality of civil servant in FM is derived from CUEPACS Annual Report, Parliamentary Debate, Service Circulars, newspaper report and book writing. The findings show that the role of CUEPACS in wages raising claims has not only allowed civil servant at FM to enjoy wage increases but also allow civil servant among women and men to get payroll similarities.

Australian deserts remain dotted with the ruins of old mosques. Beginning with a Bengali poetry collection discovered in a nineteenth-century mosque in the town of Broken Hill, Samia Khatun weaves together the stories of various peoples colonized by the British Empire to chart a history of South Asian diaspora. Australia has long been an outpost of Anglo empires in the Indian Ocean world, today the site of military infrastructure central to the surveillance of 'Muslim-majority' countries across the region. Imperial knowledges from Australian territories contribute significantly to the Islamic-Western binary of the post- Cold War era. In narrating a history of Indian Ocean connections from the perspectives of those colonized by the British, Khatun highlights alternative contexts against which to consider accounts of non-white people. Australianama challenges a central idea that powerfully shapes history books across the Anglophone world: the colonial myth that European knowledge traditions are superior to the epistemologies of the colonized. Arguing that Aboriginal and South Asian language sources are keys to the vast, complex libraries that belie colonized geographies, Khatun shows that stories in colonized tongues can transform the very ground from which we view past, present and future.

Resumen
This chapter focuses on the Houthi wars with the Yemeni government. The Houthis are a family that traces its origins to the Bayt Zayd al-Husniyyah family from Huth, a settlement near Khamir in the 'Amran governorate in northern Yemen. The Houthi family brought to Sa'dah an extreme religious devotion to self-proclaimed authentic Zaydi principles, stoking sectarian divisions in a country where they had not previously been a factor. The movement, posthumously titled "Houthi" after the death of Hussein Badr al-Din al-Houthi in 2004, has evolved into a unifying call of protest for northerners who suffered from unequal distribution of state funds and political power under Ali Abdullah Saleh. Underlying the Houthi conflict with the Yemeni republic is a fundamental religious dispute between the historic Zaydi population of Yemen's northern highlands and a republic that has marginalized the sayyid families while at the same time adopting the judicial opinions of Yemeni Sunni scholars.

Abstract March 1971. The border security forces have organised a White Flag meeting at the no man's land between India and East Pakistan. People who migrated to the other side of the border in the wake of the 1947 partition are eager to meet their relatives who were left behind. But they only have two hours to meet each other. The Bengali short story "The Sunset" by Sulema Khatun Kajol captures the sea of emotions that flood the minds and lives of villagers on this special day. It focuses on the psychological and social dimensions of the trauma of the Partition. Translated from Bengali by Arzuman Ara

Resumen
In this paper finite element analysis of a typical jack-up platform under different impact scenarios are performed using ANSYS software and the effect of various mechanisms in absorbing the energy of collision is determined. A 3D model of Iran-Khazar Jack-up operating in Caspian Sea is prepared. Dynamic nonlinear analyses, including geometric and material nonlinearity, are performed. The effects of preloading due to platform weight and environmental wave and current loading before collision are applied. In first collision between ship and studied jack-up, for impact to chords (leg-like vertical elements) as well as to braces (diagonal or horizontal elements), the main energy absorption mechanism is overall deformation of structure. For second impact it is assumed that the rebounded ship moves again toward the platform with relative wave induced velocity and worst impact scenario is considered. The results show that leg chords can resist to the second impact and the platform in both initial and secondary impacts is damaged locally such as indentation of the chord wall and the whole structure is safe.

Resumen
Sea waves are random in nature as they propagate with different frequencies and in different directions. In literature, there are several studies about dynamic behavior of marine structures under random waves in frequency domain, but little or nothing has been done about wave directionality. In this paper, the behavior of a typical jack-up platform operating in Caspian Sea is studied. In order to model the interaction between spudcan and surrounding soil, it was modeled separately by PLAXIS software. The applied soil properties are based on the field measurements. The results from plastic analyses show that they can differ up to 18 percent compared with those obtained based on the recommendations of API. A 3D model of Iran-Khazar Jack-up was studied using ANSYS software. All elements of triangular legs were modeled by PIPE59 elements and the results obtained from previous step were used to model nonlinear interaction of spudcan footings. The wave and current characteristics are based on the field data. The time-history records of earthquake used in this research are based on Manjil earthquake related to the same area. Nonlinear dynamic analyses including large deflection and material non-linearity was performed. The temporal variation of displacement at deck level was compared under solely wave or earthquake loading and simultaneously acting wave and earthquake loading assuming to be in the same direction and in different directions. It is found that when earthquake loading is applied simultaneously with wave loading in the same direction, displacements are less than wave loading alone. However, when they are applied in different directions, especially when the direction of applied earthquake differs about 30 or 90 degrees with respect to wave direction, displacements become larger. In addition, the effect of wave directionality on the maximum displacement of structure was considered.
