Bellevalia Lapeyrouse (1808: 425) is a genus comprising about 65 species and subspecies distributed over the Mediterranean region (Bareka et al. 2008, Jafari & Maassoumi 2008, Borzatti von Loewenstern et al. 2013). Wendelbo (1984) reported 18 taxa, seven of which endemic to the country. In further studies, Wendelbo (1985) reduced Bellevalia latifolia Feinbrun (1940: 369) to a synonym of B. olivieri (Baker 1874: 8) Wendelbo (1985: 120). Since then, three species were published by Özhatay (2000), while Johnson (2003) reduced B. pycnantha (Koch 1849: 255) Losinskaja (1935: 310) to a synonym of B. paradoxa (Fischer & Meyer 1835: 30) Boissier (1882: 308). In recent years, four more species, B. leucantha Persson (2006: 253), B. malatyaensis Uzunh. & H.Duman in Uzunhisarcıklı et al. (2013: 652), B. chrisii Yıldırım & B.Şahin in Yıldırım et al. (2015: in press) and B. pseudolongipes Karabacak & Yıldırım in Karabacak et al. (2014: 210) were described. In this study, we present a further new species, Bellevalia koyuncui, endemic to Turkey.

Resumen
The utilization of English recurrent word combinations –lexical bundles- play a fundamental role in academic prose (Karabacak & Qin, 2013). There has been highly limited research about comparing Turkish non-native and native English writers’ use of lexical bundles in academic prose in terms of frequency, structure and functions of lexical bundles (Bal, 2010; Karabacak & Qin, 2013, Öztürk, 2014). Therefore, this current research was conducted in order to investigate the most frequently used lexical bundles in the academically published articles of Turkish non-native and native speakers of English and to investigate whether there was a significant difference between native and non-native scholars with respect to the frequency, structures and functions of English language lexical bundles. The data were collected from two corpora; 15 scientific articles of native speakers and 15 scientific articles of Turkish advanced writers. The investigation included a quantitative analysis of the use of three-word lexical bundles and a qualitative analysis of the functions and structures they serve. To be more conservative, three-word lexical bundles which occur 40 times per million words and appear in 5 different texts were described a lexical bundle in this current research. The findings revealed that Turkish non-native writers showed underuse and less variation in the use of lexical bundles in their academic prose compared to native speakers.

The research was conducted on three small islands of marine conservation area of West Sumatra, namely Kasiak Island, Bindalang Island and Karabak Ketek Island from January to December 2016. This research aimed to study the variation of biophysical character of nesting habitat of green turtle (Chelonia mydas L, 1758) by survey method, measurement, observation and analysis. All data were analyzed using Main Component Analysis (PCA), Kriskal Wallis Test Analysis. Based on PCA analysis, the contribution on main character is 43.28%. These results are supported by biophysical conditions of spawning habitats for green turtles is on Karabak Ketek Island as an ideal island of spawning sites favored by green turtles, when compared to the location of Bindalang Island and Kasiak Island habitats.Result of Kruscal Wallis analysis of Karabak Island rank; 11.90, with a chi-square value; 10.47, asymp sig value 0.005 (5% -10%). This value shows the difference between the biophysical character of the spawning habitat on the character of the coastal slope parameter (KP) is 9.60 °.This is also the ideal slope value for the sandy beach habitat (PSe) and fine sandy beaches (PHA) as the main spawning location for green turtles in West Sumatra

Faces of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Conflict in Nagorno-KarabakhThe territory of Nagorno-Karabakh had become the matter of Armenian-Azerbaijani disputes long before the establishment of the Soviet power in the Caucasus. Armenian colonization of Muslim territories intensified after each conflict which the Russian Empire was involved in, especially after the Crimean War and the Russo-Turkish War of 1876–1878. Following the conflicts which took place between 1905–1907 and 1918–1920, Karabakh became part of the Armenian national myth. The establishment of the Soviet power in November 1920 resulted in the recognition of Karabakh as part of Armenia, but the decision was reversed the following year and the region was transferred to Azerbaijan. The claim that during the times of the Soviet Union the conflict did not exist can only refer to the military state of affairs. The beginning of its current phase occurred in 1987. The Armenian Supreme Council’s decision of 10 January 1990 to cover Nagorno-Karabakh in the republican budget and grant its citizens the right to vote in Armenian general elections was another step leading to the escalation of the conflict. The authorities in Baku insist that it can only be solved according to the principle of territorial integrity, which means that the solution must assume that Nagorno-Karabakh is part of Azerbaijan. On the other hand, the Armenians invoke the right to self-determination, which, according to them, makes Karabakh’s declaration of independence legitimate. The dispute is still one of the key problems destabilizing the situation in the South Caucasus.

The migration of North Caucasian peoples into Ottoman Anatolia during the early 1860s included some five thousand Muslim Ossetes who settled first in the Sarıkamış district and later moved further west. While today the descendants of these migrants may number as many as 60,000, most now live in the major urban centres of Istanbul and Ankara and have largely become assimilated into modern Turkish society. However, three villages in the Yozgat district east of Ankara, Boyalık, Karabacak and Poyrazli, have remained Ossetian-speaking up to the present day. This paper explores the circumstances though which the Ossetian language has survived in these villages 160 years after the migration, and what prospects exist for the continuation of a distinct Ossetian communal identity in Turkey.

The Caucasus region represents a clear example of an area of unresolved ethnic and religious problems that thread throughout the region’s historical development. During the Soviet era, due to Kremlin’s strength and ability to control the processes, these issues were suppressed by the socialist ideal of a conflict-free society and remained swept under the rug. However, the Caucasian republics in particular represent an area of preserved ethnic and religious contradictions during the nearly seventy-year period of the Soviet Union. The paper aims at exploring the genesis and development of the ethnic and religious conflicts in the South Caucasus during the Soviet times, which after the disintegration of the USSR turned into permanent conflicts in this post-soviet space such as the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh (between Armenia and Azerbaijan) and the ones in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, in Georgia. The study also seeks to explore the interstate aspect of those regional conflicts and the Russian role in them. Stalin’s consistent policy of active territorial redistributions deteriorated the situation, especially in the Caucasus region. Proof of the impossibility of consolidation in the region are the conflict points, South Ossetia and Abkhazia within the borders of Georgia, as well as Nagorno-Karabakh, which instigated an armed conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia. South Ossetia and Abkhazia have been on Georgian territory for many years. Nagorno-Karabakh, despite being inhabited by over 90% Armenian population, was part of Azerbaijani territory during the Soviet era. The Soviet policy failed to create conditions for an effective integration of the separate ethnicities. Evidence of these problems in the Caucasus still echoes in the Nagorno-Karabakh military conflict in the autumn of 2020.

AbstractThe article challenges Karabacek’s and Grohmann’s classic thesis that the Abbāsid state maintained a monopoly over all Egyptian papyrus production. As demonstrated here, there is no evidence for state monopoly. Documents show that the Abbāsids maintained a contract with Egyptian papyrus producers which secured a high price for the producers in return for the best quality papyrus. There is neither evidence nor reason to believe that this contract was forced on the manufacturers by the government. Another free market provided lower quality papyrus at lower prices.

The aim of the research is to carry out field and office work on conducting a sub-satellite survey on test sites of the Kostanay region of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Grain-sowing districts of the Kostanay region were selected as the objects of examination: Karabalyk, Fedorov, Mendykara, Uzunkol, Sarykol, Altynsarin, Kostanay, Denisov, Karasu, Taranov, Zhitikara, Auliekol, Kamysty, Naurzum. The determination of the reserves of productive soil moisture in the 0-100 cm layer by control points (100 points) carried out in the pre-sowing season of 2019 showed that the soils are characterized by satisfactory and, for the most part, insufficient moisture. The fields fixed in the coordinate system were evaluated by five indicators - pH, humus, nitrate nitrogen (N-NO3), mobile phosphorus (P2O5), and exchange potassium (K2O). Most of the soils examined had a soil solution reaction that was neutral or close to neutral. In terms of humus content, soils of the Karabalyk, Fedorov, Uzunkol and Sarykol districts had an average degree of availability, which exceeded the indicators of other districts of the Kostanai region and depended on the type of soil. The content of the basic elements of plant nutrition - nitrogen and phosphorus - varied within various limits, and, to a large extent, was determined by the previous culture, tillage, fertilizer application, and climatic conditions of the year. The level of exchangeable potassium in the soils of the examined districts of the Kostanay region was characterized as elevated or very high.

The ethno-political conflict and riots in the South Caucasus, followed by the regular Armenian-Azerbaijani war, constitute the most violent episodes during the collapse of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. In the light of legal and institutional conditions, the conflict remains open as the Bishkek Protocol signed in May 1994 formally constitutes only a ceasefire. As a consequence of its signing, Nagorno-Karabakh’s territory in fact remains an independent state that is not recognised internationally. The permanent state of emergency has a decisive impact on the current relations of Armenia and Azerbaijan, but also on the symbolic and political dynamics of transformations occurring in the ethno-political community in the quasi-state. Using ethnographic material collected during field studies conducted over several years, the article attempts to answer the question of how memorial sites devoted to the conflict shape the ethno-political community of Nagorno-Karabakh. Through the exploratory study of this case, in a broader context, I examine the potential of applying the transdisciplinary paradigm of memory research in the analysis of transformations of ethno-political communities in, de facto, independent, non-recognised or partially internationally recognised quasi-states.

Application of peaceful means of international disputes resolution in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflictOver twenty years ago the Armenians inhabiting one of Azerbaijani provinces declared constitution of a new state — the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. Hence, the conflict over legal status of this region begun; formally the terrain belongs to Azerbaijan, but it remains under Armenian control. The international community multiplied attempts of mediation and created a Group of Minsk under auspices of OSCE especially for the purpose of resolution of the karabakhi dispute. However, any settlement wasn’t reached so far. Therefore, one may ask whether this conflict may be solved using diplomatic means of international disputes resolution?

Zusammenfassung Dieser Artikel versucht, einen Überblick über die derzeitige Situation der Orthodoxie (sowohl byzantinisch-orthodoxe als auch orientalische Kirchen) zu geben. In der byzantinischen Orthodoxie besteht seit 2019 ein einseitiges Schisma, das sich auch auf die ökumenischen – vor allem bilateralen – Beziehungen auswirkt. Gleichzeitig gibt es aber auch ökumenische Aufbrüche in der Diaspora. Von den 6 orientalisch-orthodoxen Kirchen sind vier von kriegerischen Konflikten in ihren Mutterländern betroffen. Exemplarisch stellt der Artikel die Situation der Armenisch-Orthodoxen Kirche mit dem Konflikt um Berg-Karabach dar sowie die Äthiopisch-Orthodoxe Tewahedo Kirche.

This study was aimed at identification and prevalence of potato soft rot and black leg disease agent in the potato production areas of Tokat province. In March-August 2018, 67 field surveys were carried out in Central, Turhal, Zile, Pazar, Erbaa, Niksar, Artova and Basciftlik districts of Tokat. The disease incidences were 0.25%, 0.33%, 0.31%, 0.5%, 1%, and 8% in Central, Erbaa, Niksar, Pazar, Turhal, and Zile district, respectively. In Artova and Basciftlik districts, no disease was encountered. The following tests, pectolytic activity on potato, gram reaction, catalase, oxidase, growth at 37°C and 39°C, salt tolerance, hypersensitivity reaction were applied to isolates obtained from diseased plant and tuber samples. In the PCR assay, 19 isolates were produced 434 bp product with Y1/Y2 primers specific to Pectobacterium spp., and 3 isolates were produced 420 bp product with ADE1/ADE2 primers specific to Dickeya spp. The isolates resulted positive with Y1/Y2 primers weren’t produced PCR product with ECA1/ECA2 primers specific to Pectobacterium atrosepticum. According to this, 19 isolates were identified as Pectobacterium carotovorum. With this study, the causal agent of potato blackleg and soft rot disease have been identified in the potato production areas of Tokat. Further studies will be conducted to determine the species and subspecies level of the pathogens using specific primers.

Kaukaz Południowy i badania nad jego gospodarką niosą za sobą trudności wynikające ze specyfiki politycznej tego regionu. Konflikt zbrojny między Armenią i Azerbejdżanem, ograniczone relacje z otoczeniem zewnętrznym – Armenia–Turcja, Gruzja–Rosja; nie sprzyjają wymianie handlowej i transparentności zawieranych transakcji. Wyzwanie dla poszukiwań naukowych stanowi istnienie tzw. państw nieuznawanych. Nie sposób określić precyzyjnie wielkości konsumpcji paliwowej czy zużycia energii elektrycznej, gdyż nie są zaopatrywane energetycznie przez państwa, w których granicach de jure są położone. Ramy czasowe nie zostały wybrane przypadkowo i odnoszą się do daty nawiązania relacji bilateralnych między państwami 23 kwietnia 1992 roku oraz podpisania umowy o partnerstwie strategicznym 9 stycznia 2009 roku. Zainteresowanie Stanów Zjednoczonych Ameryki Gruzją wynikało z polityki dywersyfikacji zasobów energetycznych Morza Kaspijskiego znajdujących się w granicach Azerbejdżanu. Gruzja w planach dywersyfikacyjnych miała stanowić terytorium tranzytowe dla ropy naftowej i gazu ziemnego do Europy Zachodniej. Jej pozycję wzmacniała chęć ominięcia terytorium Federacji Rosyjskiej, a kierunek ormiański był niemożliwy z powodu azersko-ormiańskiego konfliktu o Górski Karabach. Stany Zjednoczone Ameryki wspierały dążenia Gruzji do członkostwa w Sojuszu Północnoatlantyckim oraz Unii Europejskiej, przeznaczając znaczną pomoc finansową oraz wspierając ją w reformach administracyjnych, gospodarczych oraz samorządowych.

Studies have been carried out to determine the increase in the resistance of soft wheat variety Omskaya-36 to diseases from the use of the microbiological preparation Extrasol: 2020 - Kostanay district, I-II natural-climatic zone; southern chernozem, heavy loamy, soil solution reaction pH - 8.3, humus content 3.3%; 2022 - Karabalyk district, I-II natural and climatic zone; ordinary chernozem soil solution pH - 7.2, humus content 3.5%. To determine the effectiveness of the microbiological preparation Extrasol on the restraint of the spread and development of diseases, field plots were selected with annual sowing of spring wheat (monoculture).It was determined that the use of the microbiological preparation Extrasol reduced the suppression of the most common diseases in the conditions of the Kostanay region on spring wheat, and timely treatment made it possible to block the development of pathogenic diseases, which ensured the further development of plants.

This extensive 10-year study conducted in Northern Kazakhstan investigates the intricate relationship between soil management techniques, crop rotations, and soil organic matter (SOM) content in Chernozem soils, an essential agricultural resource in the region. The experiments were established at the Karabalyk Agricultural Experimental Station, characterized by a arid continental climate. The study systematically examined the impact of two primary soil management techniques, conventional tillage (CT) and no-tillage (NT), in combination with various crop rotations. The crop rotations tested included grain-fallow rotations, fruit-exchange crop rotations, and an eight-field fruit-exchange crop rotation. The results provide valuable insights into the sustainable management of Chernozem soils in arid conditions, underscoring the role of crop rotation strategies in preserving SOM content. The findings reveal that among the crop rotations tested, the eight-field fruit-exchange crop rotation exhibited the most favorable outcomes for SOM preservation. This rotation helped maintain relatively stable SOM levels over the 10-year study period, contributing to soil health and fertility. In the context of the region's arid climate, the choice of soil management technique (CT or NT) had a limited impact on SOM content. The stability of SOM levels across diverse crop rotations and years highlights the dominant influence of crop management practices in this distinctive agricultural environment. Głównymi założeniami niniejszej pracy są zatem ustalenie oraz ocena stanu zapewniania przez Azerbejdżan partycypacji mniejszości narodowych w sprawach publicznych. The European Neighbourhood Policy cannot ignore complex conflicts in the East. The effectiveness of the project depends on the understanding of international relations between EU’s neighbours, including mutual stereotypes and prejudices. The papers presents the topic of a classic example of “frozen conflict” in the South Caucasus between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the Nagorno Karabakh, which has lasted for over 20 years. The dynamics of regional relations is being reinforced by stereotypes present in public life, mostly in media, political discourse and in educational programs. The article presents the context of the conflict, and an analysis of prevailing ethnic stereotypes (the neighbour as a forger of history, as an eternal enemy with authoritarian tendencies). Then, social attitudes related to those images of one another are analysed. The final part describes examples of activities directed towards establishing direct relationships between Armenians and Azerbaijanis, aiming at the change of stereotypes.

Leaf and stem rust that infect wheat lines are the most prevalent and damaging fungal diseases affecting the wheat production rates globally. One of the efficient and economically wise ways of controlling the disease progression is the breeding resistant wheat varieties. Use of molecular markers associated with resistance genes, might be useful for identifying the varieties, that carry the specific resistant genes. Sixty-four wheat cultivars and lines provided by domestic agricultural experimental stations were examined using DNA-markers for the presence of leaf (Lr) and stem (Sr) rust resistance genes. The reactions were carried out using eight pairs of different primers. Six Lr genes (Lr10, Lr13, Lr16, Lr19 and Lr39) responsible for wheat resistance were detected using PCR. The molecular marker detection demonstrated the presence of a combination of several Lr genes, particularly Lr16, Lr34 and Lr39 in the fifteen spring wheat accessions. Six varieties in the nursery of spring soft wheat from KarabAES, two varieties from AktAES (Ekada 113, Lin. 225/21g.) and seven varieties from NorthKazAES (435/Lut 2, 659/12, 486/Lut 22, 23/07, Erith 42/12, 453 SP-2/19) carried the combination these three genes.

Barley is a cereal crop that is grown all over the world. Its grain is used for animal feed, malting, brewing, and food. The quality of barley grain is important, particularly raw starch and protein contents, and it depends on the end-use product. This study looked at a collection of 356 barley accessions from the USA and Kazakhstan grown under conditions of northern Kazakhstan (Karabalyk agricultural experimental station) and genotyped with 1631 polymorphic SNPs markers. The collection was studied for starch (GSC), protein (GPC), cellulose (GCC), and lipids contents (GLC), and for grain test weight (TWL) during two years. Phenotypic analysis demonstrated impact of the year on studied traits and significant associations between grain quality and the yield (P < 0.01). Population structure analysis revealed three subclusters in the studied barley collection with the dominance of the USA’s barley in two of them. As a result of GWAS, 22 significant QTLs (P < 0.001) were identified for the studied grain quality traits including 19 single-trait QTLs, 2 double-trait QTLs, and a one triple-trait QTL. For 16 QTLs, reference quality genes and/or QTLs were found, while the remaining 6 QTLs were presumably novel genetic factors for grain quality traits. As result, these 22 QTLs are expected to be useful for future breeding projects targeting the selection of high grain quality barley cultivars.

The paper presents the results of evaluation of the KASIB-22 nursery soft wheat samples resistance to the main wheat pathogens. The research material was 44 wheat samples obtained from different regions of Russia and Kazakhstan within the framework of the KASIB shuttle breeding program (A.I. Barayev Research and Production Centre for Grain Farming, Omsk State Agrarian University, ICiG SB RAS, Karabalyk AES, Karaganda AES, North-Kazakhstan AES, FSBSI "Omsk ASC", HE SAU of the Northern Trans-Urals, Aktyubinsk AES, Kurgan Research Institute of Agriculture, Pavlodar AES, agrokomplex "Kurgansemena", Samara Research Institute of Agriculture, Chelyabinsk Research Institute of Agriculture). The following breeding lines were identified as highly productive and possessing high and medium resistance to brown rust, powdery mildew and loose smut: Line Pt-311 (Kurgan Research Institute of Agriculture), Lutescens 1462, Lutescens 1486, Line1616ae14 (Samara Research Institute of Agriculture), Lutescens 1356 (ICiG SB RAS). The yield of the selected samples averaged 42.1–51.2 c/ha. Genotypes Novosibirskaya 41, Line 435/12 and Lutescens 1364 are of interest for selection for quality. The gluten content of the nursery genotypes ranged from 24.1 (Line 23/07 in 2022) to 38.0% (variety Astana 2 in 2021), protein ranged from 13.4 (variety Tertia in 2022) to 19.5% (Lutescens 1364 in 2022). Each of the selected lines is of practical value for breeding, and the samples from the KASIB-22 nursery allow to expand the genetic diversity of spring soft wheat by selecting the most resistant forms to local populations of powdery mildew, leaf rust and loose smut pathogens.

The Kazakhstan-Siberia Network for Spring Wheat Improvement (KASIB) was established in 2000, forming a collaboration between breeding and research programs through biannual yield trials. A core set of 142 genotypes from 15 breeding programs was selected, genotyped for 81 DNA functional markers and phenotyped for 10 agronomic traits at three sites in Kazakhstan (Karabalyk, Shortandy and Shagalaly) and one site in Russia (Omsk) in 2020–2022. The study aim was to identify markers demonstrating significant effects on agronomic traits. The average grain yield of individual trials varied from 118 to 569 g/m2. Grain yield was positively associated with the number of days to heading, plant height, number of grains per spike and 1000-kernel weight. Eight DNA markers demonstrated significant effects. The spring-type allele of the Vrn-A1 gene accelerated heading by two days (5.6%) and was present in 80% of the germplasm. The winter allele of the Vrn-A1 gene significantly increased grain yield by 2.7%. The late allele of the earliness marker per se, TaMOT1-D1, delayed development by 1.9% and increased yield by 4.5%. Translocation of 1B.1R was present in 21.8% of the material, which resulted in a 6.2% yield advantage compared to 1B.1B germplasm and a reduction in stem rust severity from 27.6 to 6.6%. The favorable allele of TaGS-D1 increased both kernel weight and yield by 2–3%. Four markers identified in ICARDA germplasm, ISBW2-GY (Kukri_c3243_1065, 3B), ISBW3-BM (TA004946-0577, 1B), ISBW10-SM2 (BS00076246_51, 5A), ISBW11-GY (wsnp_Ex_c12812_20324622, 4A), showed an improved yield in this study of 3–4%. The study recommends simultaneous validation and use of selected markers in KASIB’s network.

Types represent the ultimate taxonomic information of a species and hence represent the most important specimens in museums. The entomological collections of the Zoological Museum Hamburg (now part of the Centrum für Naturkunde) hold several thousand primary types of insects. However, despite their importance currently no type database exists and catalogues have not been updated since almost 50 years and are only available in German. Following the publication of our catalogue of Caelifera types, we here present an updated catalogue for the Ensifera types held in the collection in English language. 74 species are represented as types with 105 specimens; of these 44 are name-bearing types: 36 holotypes, 3 lectotypes, 4 syntypes and 1 neotype. The remaining specimens are para- (55), paralecto- (4), allo- (1) and neoallotypes (1). Most of the species were described by Max Beier (18), Tevfik Karabak (13), Josef Redtenbacher (13) and the former curator of the collection Herbert Weidner (10). In his catalogues in 1966 and 1977 Weidner recorded types of 73 species present in the collection and an additional 65 as potentially lost in the war; 71 of the types recorded by Weidner were still present, whereas two could not be found (Xiphidiumgeniculare Redtenbacher, 1891; Xiphidiumlongipes Redtenbacher, 1891); one species recorded as lost by Weidner was found (Lezinaacuminata Ander, 1938) and one species (neoallotype of Paradecolyainexspectata Chopard, 1957) and one additional type individual (paratype of Choeroparnopsforcipatus Beier, 1949) are newly reported for the collection.

Background The success of wheat production is largely dependent on local breeding projects that focus on the development of high-yielding cultivars with the use of novel molecular tools. One strategy for improving wheat productivity involves the deployment of diverse germplasms with a high potential yield. An important factor for achieving success involves the dissection of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for complex agronomic traits, such as grain yield components, in targeted environments for wheat growth. Methods In this study, we tested the United Kingdom (UK) spring set of the doubled haploid (DH) reference population derived from the cross between two British cultivars, Avalon (winter wheat) and Cadenza (spring wheat), in the Northern, Central, and Southern regions (Karabalyk, Karaganda, Kyzylorda) of Kazakhstan over three years (2013–2015). The DH population has previously been genotyped by UK scientists using 3647 polymorphic DNA markers. The list of tested traits includes the heading time, seed maturation time, plant height, spike length, productive tillering, number of kernels per spike, number of kernels per meter, thousand kernel weight, and yield per square meter. Windows QTL Cartographer was applied for QTL mapping using the composite interval mapping method. Results In total, 83 out of 232 QTLs were identified as stable QTLs from at least two environments. A literature survey suggests that 40 QTLs had previously been reported elsewhere, indicating that this study identified 43 QTLs that are presumably novel marker-trait associations (MTA) for these environments. Hence, the phenotyping of the DH population in new environments led to the discovery of novel MTAs. The identified SNP markers associated with agronomic traits in the DH population could be successfully used in local Kazakh breeding projects for the improvement of wheat productivity.

Background.The grain of naked oat varieties has a unique biochemical composition (increased content of protein, starch, fat, and β-glucans) for the production of high-quality dietary food and feed. Relatively low adaptability restrains the spread of naked oat cultivars, but the demand for them has been increasing from year to year. Currently, only hulled oat cultivars are introduced into industrial cultivation in Kazakhstan, so the breeding trend aimed at the development of high-yielding naked oat cultivars may be regarded as a priority.Materials and methods. Thirty-five accessions of naked oats (Avena sativaL. subsp. nudisativa(Husnot.) Rod. et Sold.) were selected from the germplasm collection of the N.I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources (VIR) for their suitability for the conditions in Kazakhstan in terms of the growing season, drought resistance and grain productivity. The study was carried out in 2015–2017 in the fields of the Kazakh Research Institute of Agriculture and Crop Production (Almaty) and the Karabalyk Agricultural Experimental Station (Kostanay). Grain quality of naked oats was assessed by various methods according to a set of biochemical characters: the content of protein and its fractions, starch, amylose, fat and fatty acids, and β-glucans.Results. The study of naked oat accessions from VIR in the environments of the southeastern Kazakhstan showed higher average values of protein content in grain than under the conditions in the north. As a result of the study, naked oat accessions with increased and stable indicators of the content of protein, starch, amylose, fat, individual fatty acids and β-glucans were identified for the conditions of the southeastern and northern regions of Kazakhstan. All selected accessions will be used in breeding programs of the Republic of Kazakhstan to develop high-yielding and high-quality naked oat cultivars.

BackgroundVarious studies have showed that patients with fibromyalgia have lower exercise capacity than healthy individuals (1, 2). This reduced exercise capacity affects these patients’ independence in performing daily activities (3). Although it was shown that exercise capacity related physical status, it is not quite clear that relationship between exercise capacity and patients’ psychosocial variables in patients with fibromyalgia.ObjectivesTo identify whether there is any direct link between the exercise capacity of women with fibromyalgia and their psychosocial status.MethodsNineteen women with fibromyalgia meeting the criteria of the American College of Rheumatology were included in the preliminary cross-sectional study (age=46.26±6.25 years, BMI=27.64±3.86 kg/m2). Exercise capacity was assessed by 6-min walking test. For psychosocial variables, alexithymia, fatigue, self-efficacy, and social support were measured by Toronto Alexithymia Scale, Multidimensional Fatigue Index, General Self-Efficiacy Scale, and MOS Social Support Survey, respectively. Spearman’ correlation was used to investigate the relationship.ResultsThe average distance walked was 468.15± 57.50 m. It was found that a significant correlation between 6-min walking test and alexithymia (r=-.517, p=. 023), fatigue (r=-.475, p=.040), and self-efficacy scores (r=.607, p<.001). However, no link was observed between 6-min walking test and social support scores (r=.170, p=.486).ConclusionAs a result of our study, the exercise capacity of fibromyalgia patients was reduced as in other studies. there was a strong positive correlation between exercise capacity and self-efficacy in patients with fibromyalgia. Furthermore, exercise capacity was negatively associated with multidimensional fatigue scores and alexithymia. In the light of all this, it may be said that exercise capacity is related to patients’ psychosocial status in women with fibromyalgia. Spring bread wheat is the staple crop in Western Siberia and Kazakhstan, a significant portion of which goes for export. Wheat breeding with a high level of zinc in wheat grain is the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to address zinc deficiency in the diet. The purpose of this work was to evaluate the contribution of the factors ‘location’ and ‘genotype’ in the variability of zinc content in wheat grain, and to identify the best varieties as sources of this trait for breeding. The research on screening zinc content in the wheat grain of 49 spring bread wheat varieties from the KazakhstanSiberia Spring Wheat Trial (KASIB) nursery was carried out at 4 sites in Russia (Chelyabinsk, Omsk, Tyumen, Novosibirsk) and 2 sites in Kazakhstan (Karabalyk and Shortandy) in 2017–2018. The content of zinc in wheat grain was evaluated at the Ionomic Facility of University of Nottingham in the framework of the EU project European Plant Phenotyping Network-2020. The analysis of variance showed that the main contribution into the general phenotypic variation of the studied trait, 38.7 %, was made by the factor ‘location’ due to different contents of zinc and moisture in the soil of trial sites; the effect of the factor ‘year’ was 13.5 %, and the effect of the factor ‘genotype’ was 8.0 %. The most favorable environmental conditions for accumulation of zinc in wheat grain were observed in the Omsk region. In Omsk, the average zinc content in all studied varieties was 50.4 mg/kg, with 63.7 mg/kg in the best variety ‘OmGAU 100’. These values are higher than the target values of the international program Harvest Plus. ‘Novosibirskaya 16’ (49.4 mg/kg), ‘Silach’ (48.4 mg/kg), ‘Line 4-10-16’ (47.2 mg/kg), ‘Element 22’ (46.3 mg/kg) and ‘Lutescens 248/01’ (46.0 mg/kg) were identified as being the best varieties. Significant possibilities for the production of wheat grain with high zinc content, which is in demand for the production of bread and pastry products with functional properties, were identified in the Western Siberian region.

Resumen
It is presented, that the quantitative characteristics of spring wheat are inherited in a complex process. In their determination, a significant role is played by genetic systems which are expressed depending on environmental factors. The task of ecological selection is to select forms with a wide reaction norm on changing the factors, which are limiting growth and development of cenoses. A new method for the dissociation of phenotypic dispersion in a three-factor dispersion analysis is proposed. The method is based on the average squares of variations and the expected structure of the average squares of variations. For the selection of genotypes with wide adaptation, one of the main conditions is a creation of a model ecological gradient. In the article, the example of the “Ekada” program demonstrates the formation of a similar gradient, the so-called "ecological vector". The ecological point, where the factors limiting the growth and development of plants are the most concentrated, is Bezenchuk (B). At the vector points of the Ulyanovsk (U) and Kazan (K), conditions are most favorable for the formation of a high crop. At the center of the vector is Karabalyk (F) with high parameters of the differentiating capacity of the environment, but atypical for the vector as a whole. The points Penza (P) and Chishmy (Ch) change position, approaching the left, then to the right points. Each point is characterized by a set of statistical parameters. An ecological vector B → (Ch) → F → (P) → U → K with a different pressure spectrum of the limiting factors of the environment in ontogeny along ecological points is formed. When selecting according to polygenic quantitative characteristics, the selectioner must take into account that individual genes and genotypic systems manifest differently in different combinations of environmental factors, i.e. to select less on a genotype, than on an epigenotype. It is demonstrated, that by the ratio of the share of the genotype-environment and the genotype component of the phenotype by the quantitative trait (χg/e / χg) the selection by quantitative characteristics along the ecological vector is several times more effective than at the local ecological point. In none of the points of the ecological vector, nor on one trait, direct selection is not advisable (in comparison with ecological selection).

The study of genetic resources using prolamin polymorphism in wheat cultivars from countries with different climatic conditions makes it possible to identify and trace the preference for the selection of the alleles of gliadine-coding loci characteristic of specific conditions. The aim of the study was to determine the “gliadin profile” of the collection of common wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) from breeding centers in Russia and Kazakhstan by studying the genetic diversity of allelic variants of gliadin-coding loci. Intrapopulation (μ ± Sμ) and genetic (H) diversity, the proportion of rare alleles (h ± Sh), identity criterion (I) and genetic similarity (r) of common wheat from eight breeding centers in Russia and Kazakhstan have been calculated. It has been ascertained that the samples of common wheat bred in Kostanay region (Karabalyk Agricultural Experimental Station, Kazakhstan) and Chelyabinsk region (Chelyabinsk Research Institute of Agriculture, Russia) had the highest intrapopulation diversity of gliadin alleles. The proportion of rare alleles (h) at Gli-B1 and Gli-D1 loci was the highest in the wheat cultivars bred by the Federal Center of Agriculture Research of the South-East Region (Saratov region, Russia), which is explained by a high frequency of occurrence of Gli-B1e (86 %) and Gli-D1a (89.9 %) alleles. Based on identity criterion (I), the studied samples of common wheat from different regions of Kazakhstan and Russia have differences in gliadincoding loci. The highest value of I = 619.0 was found when comparing wheat samples originated from Kostanay and Saratov regions, and the lowest I = 114.4, for wheat cultivars from Tyumen and Chelyabinsk regions. Some region-specific gliadin alleles in wheat samples have been identified. A combination of Gli-A1f, Gli-B1e and Gli-Da alleles has been identified in the majority of wheat samples from Kazakhstan and Russia. Alleles (Gli-A1f, Gli-A1i, Gli-A1m, Gli-A1o, Gli-B1e, Gli-D1a, Gli-D1f, Gli-A2q, Gli-B2o, and Gli-D2a) turned out to be characteristic and were found with varying frequency in wheat cultivars in eight regions of Russia and Kazakhstan. The highest intravarietal polymorphism (51.1 %) was observed in wheat cultivars bred in Omsk region (Russia) and the lowest (16.6 %), in Pavlodar region (Kazakhstan). On the basis of the allele frequencies, a “gliadin profile” of wheat from various regions and breeding institutions of Russia and Kazakhstan was compiled, which can be used for the selection of parent pairs in the breeding process, the control of cultivars during reproduction, as well as for assessing varietal purity.
