Resumen

Abstract Introduction Hypersomnolence is commonly reported in Major Depressive Disorder with Seasonal Pattern (Seasonal Affective Disorder; SAD). However, self-reported hypersomnolence may conflate long sleep duration, daytime sleepiness, fatigue, increased time in bed, or maladaptive sleep cognitions, undermining treatment efforts. Methods Eighty-eight participants ages 18-65 years old were recruited during the winter (SAD = 43, Control = 45). Depression severity was assessed by a clinician rated interview, and self-reported hypersomnolence was determined by assessing self-reported sleep duration. Participants wore an Actiwatch for 4-14 days and completed self-report measures of daytime sleepiness and fatigue. We performed a hierarchical linear regression to determine which factors best explain self-reported winter hypersomnolence: actigraphic total sleep time (TST), time in bed (TIB), depression severity, sleepiness, or fatigue. Due to collinearity of TST and TIB, we separated those variables into two models predicting hypersomnolence. Results SAD participants endorsed greater hypersomnolence than controls during the winter (B = .714; p < .001). In model 1, TST (OR(1,14) = .024, p <.001) and daytime sleepiness (OR(1,14) = .208, p = .03) significantly predicted the presence of self-reported winter hypersomnolence above and beyond age, gender, depression, and fatigue. In model 2, only TIB (OR(1, 14) = .021, p = .001) was a significant predictor. Post-hoc analyses indicated that fatigue and depression severity significantly predicted self-reported hypersomnolence when entered separately into the model. Sleepiness accounted for the largest change in pseudo-R2 in bth models. Conclusion We found evidence for the multifaceted etiology of self-reported hypersomnolence. Daytime sleepiness, sleep duration, time in bed, and the shared variance between fatigue and depression severity all explained self-reported hypersomnolence. Abstract Introduction Insufficient sleep, circadian misalignment, and altered eating patterns are linked to depression. Despite the temporal association between the sleep/wake and feed/fast cycles, it is unclear how depression severity influences this relationship. Methods Sixty-eight participants ages 18-65 years across the depression continuum wore an Actiwatch for 5-17 nights and reported daily meal times (730 nights total). Multilevel models tested previous night’s sleep timing and duration as predictors of the length of the next day’s eating window. Within-person sleep duration and timing were entered as Level 1 predictors to account for nightly variation in sleep. Between-person sleep duration and timing were entered as Level 2 predictors. A three-way interaction between depression severity and Level 2 sleep duration/timing was entered. Covariates included age, gender, and day (weeknight/weekend). Results Across participants, average later sleep timing predicted a longer eating window (Β= -.222; p =.005). Earlier sleep timing (Β= -.186; p < .001) and shorter sleep duration(Β= -.103; p < .001) relative to a person’s average each predicted a longer next-day eating window. A three-way interaction was found between sleep duration, timing, and depression (Β= -.159; p = .002). At shorter sleep durations, individuals with higher depression severity had a positive relationship between sleep timing and eating window length, and individuals with low depression had a negative relationship between sleep timing and eating window length. Conclusion At shorter sleep durations (< 6.5 hr), individuals with high depression and later sleep timing or low depression and early sleep timing had the longest eating windows, which have been linked to adverse metabolic health. Future experiments should test short sleep duration, sleep timing, and depression as potential causes of lengthened eating windows to determine if targeting sleep duration and timing could improve adverse metabolic markers in depression. Abstract Introduction Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) increases risk for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), although the mechanism linking SAD and ADHD is unknown. Prior research has identified insomnia and delayed sleep phase in both ADHD and SAD. We hypothesized that sleep duration and timing in SAD would be associated with the severity of ADHD symptoms. Methods Adults with SAD (n = 45) and subsyndromal SAD (S-SAD; n = 18) aged 19-66 years from Pittsburgh, PA., were assessed for ADHD symptoms, self-report sleep quality, depression severity, and daytime sleepiness in the Winter. Participants wore an Actiwatch for 4-14 days, from which we calculated sleep-onset latency, total sleep time, sleep midpoint, and sleep efficiency. We conducted a hierarchical multivariate linear regression to determine if sleep characteristics predict ADHD symptom severity in our sample while controlling for depressive symptoms. Age and gender were added in Step 1, seasonal depression severity in Step 2, actigraphy-based total sleep time, sleep onset latency, midpoint, and efficiency in Step 3, and self-reported sleep quality and daytime sleepiness in Step 4. Results Participants mostly scored in the “likely” or “highly likely” ADHD range (87.30%, n=55), higher than the national prevalence rate (4.4%). When controlling for age, gender, and depression severity, only shorter actigraphy-based total sleep time was associated with higher ADHD symptom severity (β=-0.30, p<0.05). However, when self-reported sleep quality and daytime sleepiness were added as predictors, total sleep time was no longer a statistically-significant predictor of ADHD symptom severity and only daytime sleepiness predicted ADHD symptom severity (β=0.31, p<0.05). Conclusion Our results suggest that individuals with SAD who experience daytime sleepiness and/or possibly shorter actigraphy-based sleep duration experience higher ADHD symptom severity. Treatments like Trans-C or CBT-I to improve daytime sleepiness and sleep duration may be indicated for SAD patients who present with comorbid ADHD symptoms. Support NIMH K.A.R. MH103303

Abstract Introduction The post-illumination pupil response (PIPR) is a measure of the responsivity of intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs), and reflects the cell biology of the photoentrainment pathway projecting from the retina to the circadian clock. Adequate signaling from the ipRGCs in the retina to the circadian clock is necessary to result in robust circadian output which we hypothesize would increase inter-daily stability (IS), a non-parametric modeling technique that examines stability of rest activity rhythms across successive days. Methods Participants were aged 18–66 years and recruited from the greater Pittsburgh area during the Winter with Seasonal Affective Disorder who completed both actigraphy and pupillometry (n = 16). PIPR measures were collected after a 1 second red or blue light pulse, and are calculated as the Net difference between red and blue at multiple time frames: at 6 seconds post stimulus (PIPR 6), from 10–30 seconds post-stimulus (PIPR 20), or from 10–40 seconds post-stimulus (PIPR 30). Using actigraphy, inter-daily stability (IS) was calculated as the amount of overall variability in the recording that is accounted for by the typical 24-hour profile, and reflects stability of the mean 24-h profile day-to-day. Results Inter-daily stability (IS) was associated with Net PIPR 20 (Β = 0.561; p = .031) and Net PIPR 30 (Β = 0.551; p = .034; all Β’s are standardized), but not Net PIPR 6 (Β = 0.298; p = .304). Retinal irradiance was calculated for each participant based on age and pupil diameter, to account for age-related differences in transmission of the stimulus to the retina. All raw Net PIPR values were adjusted for calculated retinal irradiance, and gender and time since wake were included as covariates. Conclusion Inter-daily stability (IS) values indicate greater stability of 24-hour activity profiles across days. If reduced responsivity to entraining pulses of light is associated with day-to-day instability in activity rhythms, as shown here, we might expect that amplifying entraining light through environmental changes or bright light therapy would normalize inter-daily stability in SAD, or the reverse, stabilizing activity profiles across days could improve depression and/or normalize retinal ipRGC responsivity. Through qualitative methods, this study examined the empowerment of the poor through K.U.R. at the Branch Office of the Indonesian People's Bank Situbondo East Java. As for the formulation of the problem that will be analyzed, first, How is the People's Business Credit (K.U.R.) program of Bank Rakyat Indonesia Situbondo Branch realizing the empowerment of the poor?; secondly, For Which Bank Rakyat Indonesia Situbondo branch office conducts coaching and assistance to K.U.R. Credit Recipient Customers. This study shows that the People's Business Credit program of Bank Rakyat Indonesia in Situbondo Regency, East Java, can realize the empowerment of the poor. The results showed that the People's Business Credit program of Bank Rakyat Indonesia in Situbondo Regency, East Java, could realize the empowerment of the poor. Therefore, the recommendations offered are the development and assistance of [Bank Rakyat Indonesia (B.R.I.)] Situbondo Regency Government empowers the poor through K.U.R. in situbondo regencies. Furthermore, this paper advises the management of Bank Rakyat Indonesia to improve facility services to realize the empowerment of the poor through K.U.R. And always conduct regular coaching and supervision to customers so that the business is more advanced it can increase human resources

Abstract Introduction The retina contains melanopsin-containing retinal ganglion cells, which underlie non-image forming responses to light. The Post-Illumination Pupil Response (PIPR) can assess melanopsin cell responsivity, with applications for sleep disorders, mood disorders, and circadian entrainment. Lighter pigmented irises allow more light to pass through the retina. The present study tested an association between the PIPR and iris pigmentation. Methods Participants (N=49) included seasonal depression (n=26) and never-depressed controls (n=23). Photos of participants’ irises were rated using both the Franssen (2008) scale, a set of 24 standardized iris photos, and the Mackey (2011) scale, a 9-category rating system. Red and blue stimuli 13.5 log photons/cm2/s were presented, and infrared pupillometry measured pupil diameter for 40 seconds. We used multilevel regression with a random intercept of participant to predict the PIPR from each iris rating system separately, controlling for age, gender, and circadian time of testing determined from Dim Light Melatonin Onset. Results Agreement between raters, calculated using Cohen's κ, was moderate for both scales (Franssen, κ=0.57, 95% CI: 0.42 to 0.71, p<0.001; Mackey, κ=0.67, 95% CI: 0.53 to 0.81, p<0.001). Bivariate correlations showed age was inversely associated with iris color: older individuals had lighter iris pigmentation. Analyses were therefore stratified by age (older >=31 years: n=24; younger <31 years, n=25). Greater retinal responsivity was associated with lighter iris pigmentation in the older sample (Mackey: unstandardized b=-0.016; SE=0.005; p=0.002; Franssen: unstandardized b=-0.006; SE=0.002, p=0.002), but not the younger sample (Mackey: unstandardized b=-0.0008; SE=0.003; p=0.770; Franssen: unstandardized b=-0.0009; SE=0.002, p=0.619). There was no effect of iris color on PIPR in the whole sample (p’s >0.13). Conclusion Iris color explained ~8% of variance in the PIPR, indicating that PIPR studies should recruit samples with similar distributions of iris pigmentation across conditions and ages, as this finding was only seen in the older sample with more individuals with lighter iris pigmentation. Future studies will test iris pigmentation by light exposure interactions on the PIPR. Light stimuli focused to a point on the pupil (i.e., Maxwellian) would eliminate variation in the amount of light incident on the retina due to iris pigmentation. Support (If Any) NIMH K.A.R. This study aims to see the phenomena of the tradition of pilgrimage to the grave of K.H.R Bagus Khasantuka in Dusun Senuko Sidoagung Godean Sleman. The method used in this research is qualitative research methods. This study has two types of data and data sources, namely primary data and secondary data. Data interview techniques in this study were carried out by direct field observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis techniques used were data, data reduction, data presentation, and data collection. The data validity checking technique used was the source triangulation technique and the technique triangulation. The results of this study indicate the phenomenon of the pilgrimage tradition at K.H.Rr's grave intending to pray for and interpret the values of life, pilgrims who visit the grave of waliyullah K.H.R Bagus Khasantuka can trace the struggle of previous scholars in Islam. The existence of Sendang Bagusan as an example of K.H.R Bagus Khasantuka is still used by the Javanese mystical adherents for the kungkum ritual to achieve certain goals. The development of the Tomb of K.H.R Bagus Khasantuka also had a positive impact on the construction of hamlet roads, gates, and youth organization activities in Senuko Village.

Irrational use of antibiotics is the key contributor to antibiotic resistance. To improve the administration of antibiotics, many programs have been designed at national and international levels; and antibiotic stewardship (ABS) is one of them.The aim of this study was to create awareness and understanding of antibiotic stewardship by estimating its knowledge, attitude and practice (K.A.P) among health care professionals in health care facilities across Gujarat. A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out among health care professionals in health care facilities across Gujarat. For which a self-administered questionnaire with 15 closed-ended questions with two sections: “Optimal antibiotic use” (no.1-7 questions); and “Responsible antibiotic use” (no.8-15 questions) was disseminated online/ in electronic form. In Dental practitioners, mean scores of knowledge, attitude, practice (K.A.P) regarding “Optimal antibiotic use” and “Responsible antibiotic use” are 6.3682 ± 0.96, 6.2139 ± 1.07, 4.5672 ± 1.51 and 7.1692 ± 1.09, 6.9104 ± 1.25, 5.1443 ± 1.81 respectively.In Medical practitioners, mean scores of knowledge, attitude, practice (K.A.P) regarding “Optimal antibiotic use” and “Responsible antibiotic use” are 6.8201 ± 0.41, 6.7090 ± 0.56, 5.1270 ± 1.62 and 7.6032 ± 0.69, 7.4233 ± 0.82, 5.3492 ± 1.94 respectively.Between the groups, knowledge and attitude regarding “Optimal antibiotic use” and “Responsible antibiotic use” are statistically highly significant (p-value = <0.001). Health care professionals showed higher knowledge as compared to attitude with least practice (K>A>P) regarding antibiotic stewardship in health care facilities across Gujarat. Antibiotic stewardship is fulcrum for the dual face of antibiotics. Equilibrium between individual and societal benefit/risk ratio while making clinical antibiotic decisions will benefit both; individual patients as well as the community.

Tujuan peneIitian ini untuk menguji karakteristik Campuran Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA) Kasar dengan memanfaatkan Sungai Sa’dan Kelurahan Pangli Kecamatan Sesean Kabupaten Toraja Utara dari hasil penelitian laboratorium.Metode yang digunakan untuk penelitian ini ialah membuat beberapa uji karakteristik yang berwujud material aggregat kasar, halus, filer serta aspal yang kemudiam membuat rancangan komposisi lalu benda uji dibuat dalam bentuk campuran beraspal panas Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA) Kasar dan kemudian melakukan Marshall test untuk mendapatkan Stabilitas Marshal sisa (SMS) menggunakan K.A.O. Adapun penelitian ini dilaksanakan di laboratorium Jalan dan Aspal Fakultas Teknik Sipil Universitas Kristen Indonesia Paulus Makassar, yang memberikan hasil Karakteristik material perkerasan berupa Batu Sungai Sa’dan Kelurahan Pangli Kec.Sesean Kab. Toraja Utara telah memenuhi Spesifikasi standar Bina Marga 2018 yang dapat digunakan dalam campuran beraspal panas. Melalui uji Marshall didapatkan karakteristik Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA) Kasar dengan kadar aspal 6,00, hingga 7,00% dengan kenaikan 0,25%. 7,00% adalah K.A.O yang digunakan pada Marshall Immersion campuran SMA dan diperoleh Stabilitas Marshal Sisa (SMS) sebesar 97,53% dimana nilai ini sesuai dengan Spesifikasi Umum Bina Marga 2018 yaitu minimal 90%.

An intramedullary fixation device was devised by the senior author (K.A.J.) to use in conjunction with a previously described method for tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis. Satisfactory results were obtained in approximately 87% of the initial 30 patients; union was radiographically or clinically evident in all but two patients. Many of these patients had been offered or were considering below the knee amputation; only two ultimately chose this reconstructive option at a follow-up that ranged from 4 to 27 months.

Professor Keppel Archibald Cameron Creswell (1879–1974), better known as K.A.C. Creswell or simply Creswell, was definitely one of the most prominent and prolific scholars in the field of Islamic art and architecture. His gigantic two-volume <em>Early Muslim Architecture</em>, of which Volume I was first published in Oxford in 1932, remains widely acknowledged as the most important reference for early Islamic architecture so far. Nevertheless, Creswell’s hypothesis on the genesis of the mosque type and his perception of the first mosque in Islam betray a considerable amount of dubiety and suffer a myriad of critical deficiencies. As he maintains, the making of the mosque, as defined in the modern sense, was launched not by the Prophet, as commonly believed, but by Ziyād b. Abīh when he reconstructed the mosque of Baṣra in 45/665. Astonishingly, these views of Creswell were adopted and further enhanced by quite a number of notable specialists over eighty-five years. This article will subject such views to scrutiny with the aim of identifying the first mosque in Islam and the religious as well as historical contexts in which it emerged. This discussion becomes more persistent, however, given the dominant misconceptions about the topic in Western as well as Muslim scholarships.

Resumen

The (W.C.C) condition was developed by K.P.R. Rao et al. in 2013 which established common fixed point results in partial metric spaces. By using Hausdorff metric-like space, we obtain Suzuki type common fixed point theorems for hybrid pair of maps in metric-like spaces. We observe different conditions about maps to obtain a fixed point. Background: Personal hygiene aims at healthy living by maintaining cleanliness of the body. Adolescent girls being in the period of active growth and development are the ideal candidates to impart proper knowledge which in turn create a correct attitude followed by practice and it would be carried to next generation. The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a health education programme in improving the knowledge, attitude and practice of personal hygiene among the adolescent girls in a slum area of Kolkata, West Bengal, India.Methods: A quasi-experimental study was conducted in two government Bengali medium secondary schools located in a slum area of Kolkata, West Bengal, India. First a baseline survey with the help of a predesigned pretested questionnaire and checklist was done to find out the socio-demographic information and existing K.A.P of personal hygiene of the students. This was followed by an intervention phase of 6 months during which weekly lecture and demonstration classes were taken in the study school. Impact of intervention was assessed by application of post-test questionnaire. Both the schools were followed for another 3 months to establish the sustainability of the programme.Results: There was statistically significant improvement in the mean scores of K.A.P of personal hygiene from the pre-test level to post-test level among the students of study school as compared to control school, though there was a significant decline in the mean scores at 9 months than 6 months revealing want of sustainability of the programme.Conclusions: Regular revision and reinforcement should be done to increase the effectiveness of a health education programme to improve personal hygiene and thereby resulting in a healthy living.

Biomedical waste if not handled properly can pollute the environment and can spread many harmful diseases. Health care workers in our country are still not fully aware about proper BMW handling and disposal, despite increasing global awareness on it. The objective of the study was to understand the level of awareness regarding BMW handling and disposal among health care professionals in our institution. This was a cross-sectional study was conducted in 5 different hospitals (Bed capacity >100) in metro cities. The study was conducted in 3 months. A total of 600 hospital staff from different hospitals responded as participants and further data analyzed. were consented to fill a structured valid questionnaire on Biomedical waste management in hospitals. These respondents were asked to be filled either questionnaire on Microsoft form from their computer or on hardcopy. The structures valid questionnaire was prepared on Microsoft office forms and 100% response rate was received from the staff working in different areas including wards, ICU, laboratory and OPD of the hospital. Those who were willing to submitted hard copies, 30 minutes time was given to each participant to finish the questionnaire and finally submit the form, the results were entered into Microsoft office form and analyzed. The questionnaire was developed based on an extensive literature which can include knowledge, attitude and practice with regards to biomedical waste management adequately. The questionnaire was given after designed and a pretested questionnaire and checklist was conducted on 10 staff. All questions were closed ended questions. The questionnaire was divided into 4 sessions i.e. Session -1 for personnel data, Session -2 to know knowledge assessment, Session -3 on Attitude assessment and Section -4 on Practice Questionnaire. The data forms were collected and underwent scrutiny for logical inconsistencies, skip patterns, and missing values. Results were expressed in numbers and percentages. Conclusion : Most of the healthcare workers are aware about the biomedical waste management rule and its requirements but required regular training for colour coding and how to segregate and store the waste.

AbstractWe prove that smooth enough invariant curves of monotone twist maps of an annulus with fixed diophantine rotation number depend on the map in a differentiable way. Partial results hold for Aubry-Mather sets.Then we show that invariant curves of the same map with different rotation numbers ω and ω′ cannot approach each other at a distance less than cst. |ω−ω′|. By K.A.M. theory, this implies that, under suitable assumptions, the union of invariant curves has positive measure.Analogous results are due to Zehnder and Herman (for the first part), and to Lazutkin and Pöschel (for the second one), in the case of Hamiltonian systems and area preserving maps.

Background: Menstruation and menstrual hygiene are still issues which are insufficiently recognized in Indian society and influenced by misconceptions and socio‐cultural restrictions. Adolescent girls become vulnerable to reproductive tract infections resulted from lack of knowledge and faulty practices regarding menstrual hygiene. The study aimed to assess the impact of health education programme regarding knowledge, attitude and practice of menstrual hygiene on genitourinary tract morbidities among adolescent girl students in a slum area of Kolkata.Methods: A quasi experimental study was conducted in two Government secondary schools located in a slum area under Kolkata Municipal Corporation. The study consisted of three steps. First a baseline survey with the help of a pre designed pretested questionnaire was done to find out the socio-demographic information, existing knowledge, attitude and practice of menstrual hygiene of the students and presence of any genito-urinary tract morbidities was documented. This was followed by an intervention phase of 6 months during which weekly lecture and interactive classes were taken in the study school. Second step was reassessment of K.A.P of menstrual hygiene and documentation of related morbidities at post intervention. Third step was to follow them for another 3 months for final reassessment of the same.Results: There was statistically significant decrease in the genito-urinary tract morbidities with improvement of mean K.A.P score of menstrual hygiene in study school from the pre-test level to post-test level as compared to the control school. But there was a significant decline of mean menstrual hygiene score at follow up of 9 months in the study school depicting lack of sustainability of the heath educational programme.Conclusions: Sustained health education programme with regular reinforcement and active involvement of the mothers regarding menstrual hygiene can lead to better reproductive health of adolescents.

This study examines the quality of the hadith in the Miftahul Jannah by KHR. As'ad Syamsul Arifin. This book explains the rules of fiqh briefly. The majority of the fiqh chapters are not accompanied by hadith explanations, there are only four chapters accompanied by hadith, but their status is not included, so further studies are needed before believing and practicing the hadith. The focus of the study in this study is how the quality of the hadith sanad used by KHR As’ad Syamsul Arifin in the Miftahul Jannah book. The purpose of this study describes the quality of the hadith sanad used by Kyai As'ad Syamsul Arifin in the Miftahul Jannah book. The results of the study in the first hadith found that the sanad is weak (dhaif). The location of his weakness in the person of Abd Karim through the hadith narrated by al-Thabarani. But the hypocrisy of this hadith can be elevated to hasan lighairihi because there is a path of hadith narrated by Ibn Ady based on Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, and the path narrated by Ibn Abu Na'im from Ja'far b. Ishaq, who is both dhaif. Personally the narrator of the second hadith has a weak Sanad, in Abi al-Nadlr al-Abar who is not found his biography (majhul), but this hadith can be elevated to be hasan lighairihi because there are similar hadith narrated by al-Nasâ'i from the path Talhah and by Ibn Majah whose hadith is of value.

This paper examines the architectural renderings of the round city of Baghdad built by the Abbasid caliph Abu Jaʻfar al-Mansur as visualized by archaeologists and historians. Although nothing of the historic city has survived, descriptions by Arab and Persian authors have provided a guide to its appearance. From an architectural perspective, the work of Ernst Herzfeld and K.A.C. Creswell may be considered the most significant. A study of the details of their architectural drawings reveals inconsistencies with the written descriptions. Reconstructions by other scholars are also examined with special reference to the work of Jacob Lassner. The focus is on the first faṣīl (intervallum) and raḥba (entrance courtyard), the majālis (audience halls) over the four city gates, the maṣʻad (gangway) to the audience halls, the ṭaqāt (arcades) and finally the caliph's palace and the congregational mosque, to suggest a revised reconstruction of al-Mansurʼs Baghdad.

A similiarity between theoretical calculations of the differential scattering cross section for electron energy-loss near edge structure (ELNES) and the cross section for x-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) has been demonstrated by several workers (see, e.g. Leapman et al). Since theoretical XANES calculations using band structure methods have often given impressive agreement with experimental results, it is expected hat these same methods can be used under certain experimental conditions to fit ELNES theory to experimental data. The interpretation of ELNES may however, be subject to additional complications involving the multiple scattering of both the beam electron and the ejected core electron. Band structure calculations and multiple scattering techniques have also been used to interpret the ELNES of the carbon K-edge in Be2C. MgO has also been studied using the K.K.R. or Green's function method by Lindner et al. Here we report a further comparison of theoretical and experimental ELNES for MgO.

The plant exhibited more promising bacterial activity against various microorganisms. Hence, in the present study this plant is also tested against the dental pathogens. The plant was extracted from four different solvents was tested for the presence of phytochemicals in it. After analyzing, its antimicrobial activity is tested against fungi and bacteria. Then a dental carrier Streptococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa which was collected from the K.S.R. Institute for Dental Science and Research. The isolates were used to check the activity against Justicia simplex D.Don. Based on the positive result obtained against various analyses, it is formulated successfully into a tooth paste. The present study on Phytochemical screening of Justicia simplex D.Don a valuable medicinal plant extract against Dental pathogens enables the use of this plant for the formulation of tooth powder against dental pathogens. The result is more effective against dental pathogens by herbal tooth powder

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos ósseos e dentários da tração reversa de maxila, utilizando-se máscara 1’facial de Petit, associada à mecânica ortodôntica tradicional. Paciente K.P.R, sexo feminino, 12 anos, feoderma, procurou atendimento ortodôntico, relatando como queixa principal “ausência de dentes inferiores e queixo muito grande”. Após o exame clínico e a avaliação da documentação ortodôntica (fotografias extra e intra orais; panorâmica dos maxilares; telerradiografia lateral e traçado cefalométrico), diagnosticou-se um caso de Classe III esquelética, com prognatismo mandibular, cujo histórico hereditário demonstrou haver a ocorrência de outros membros da família com a mesma alteração. Frente ao exposto, optou-se pela intervenção ortopédica, através da associação do expansor Hyrax e da máscara facial de Petit e, posteriormente, prosseguiu-se com a colagem de um aparelho ortodôntico fixo, aplicando-se a mecânica para correção da Classe III, através de elásticos intermaxilares. O tratamento foi finalizado após 20 meses. A associação entre ortopedia e ortodontia, realizada através da tração reversa da maxila e aparatologia fixa, resultou em benefícios para correção da má oclusão de Classe III, minimizando os efeitos ósseos e dentários dessa má oclusão, bem como promovendo uma melhora considerável na estética facial da paciente.

The historical experience of Hungarian-Romanian relations in previous eras affected the relations of the Hungarian national minority of Transylvania with the Romanian communist authorities from the 1950s to the 1980s. The concept of Romania as a unitary national state excluded the idea of Hungarian territorial autonomy even within its narrowest borders; Transylvanian Hungarians were declared an integral part of the Romanian political nation. This caused growing resistance from the consolidated Hungarian minority with a highly developed national identity and with the intelligentsia, which perceived itself as the guardian of the 1000-year-old Hungarian state and cultural traditions in Transylvania. The reaction of the Transylvanian Hungarian intelligentsia to the growing Romanian nationalist challenge changed as the Ceauşescu regime evolved, giving rise to different behavioral strategies. In the late 1960s, when Romania’s independent policy was internationally recognised the dominant attitude was to influence the situation through dialogue with the authorities. Later, from the end of the 1970s, the participation of Transylvanian Hungarians in the Romanian dissident movement intensified. The policy of the K.d.r regime concerning the Hungarians in Romania also changed depending on the state of Hungary–Romania relations.

A implantodontia é a alternativa de tratamento mais indicada nos processos de reabilitação oral de pacientes edêntulos. Entretanto, uma de suas limitações é a necessidade de altura óssea suficiente para a instalação dos implantes. A distração osteogênica surge como solução desse problema, induzindo uma osteogênese e, consequentemente, um aumento da altura do rebordo alveolar. Paciente K.A.V. (13), sexo masculino, foi submetido a cirurgia de ressecção mandibular para remoção de ameloblastoma e reconstrução imediata com enxerto ósseo de crista ilíaca. Após dezoito meses, parte do enxerto havia sido reabsorvida e nenhum sinal de recidiva da lesão foi detectado. Foi então realizada a distração osteogênica na região com dispositivo intraoral extraósseo, unidirecional. Após a instalação do mesmo, aguardou-se sete dias até a primeira ativação. Foram então realizadas ativações diárias de 1mm. Após 15 dias, a fase de ativação foi concluída, seguida de um período de consolidação de seis meses. Após remoção do dispositivo, verificou-se um ganho de 12mm na altura óssea. O processo possibilitou a instalação de três implantes na região com suas próteses, finalizando o tratamento reabilitador. A osteodistração mostrou ser uma alternativa viável e mais conservadora em relação às técnicas de enxertia óssea as quais acarretam maior morbidade.

Arab Journal of Plant Protection, 40(2): 164-168. https://doi.org/10.22268/AJPP-040.2.164168 The study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of different concentrations of Aloe vera gel extract in inhibiting the growth of A. flavus on potato dextrose agar (PDA) culture medium, as well as evaluating the efficiency of the extract in inhibiting the growth of A. flavus and reducing Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) production in rice grains. The results obtained showed that the concentrations 1, 2, 3, and 4% of Aloe vera gel extract caused variable inhibition rates of A. flavus growth on PDA culture medium; of 97, 100, 5.88 and 17.64%, respectively. The best concentration from the laboratory experiment, (2%) was used, to evaluate its efficiency in inhibiting the growth of A. flavus on rice grains during storage and reduced AFB1 production by 86.5%, from 21.2 ppb in the control to 2.86 ppb in the treatment using HPLC high- performance liquid chromatography. The same treatment reduced AFB1 concentration in rice grains contaminated with AFB1 by 74.7%, from 22.88 ppb in control to 5.78 ppb in the extract treatment. OBJECTIVE Awake transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) is a novel technique for performing spinal fusions in patients under conscious sedation. Whether awake TLIF can reduce operative times and decrease the hospital length of stay (LOS) remains to be shown. In this study, the authors sought to assess the differences in clinical outcomes between patients who underwent awake TLIF and those who underwent TLIF under general anesthesia by using institutional experience at the Mayo Clinic and the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) database. METHODS Chart review was performed for a consecutive series of patients who underwent single-level minimally invasive surgery (MIS)–TLIF performed by a single surgeon (K.A.I.) at a single institution. Additionally, the NSQIP database was queried from 2016 to 2019 for patients who underwent awake TLIF as well as propensity score–matched patients who underwent TLIF under general anesthesia. RESULTS A total of 20 patients at Mayo Clinic underwent awake single-level MIS-TLIF. The mean operative time was 122 ± 16.68 minutes, and the mean estimated blood loss was 39 ± 30.24 ml. No intraoperative complications were reported. A total of 96 patients who underwent TLIF (24 awake and 72 under general anesthesia) were analyzed from the NSQIP database. The mean LOS was less in the awake cohort (1.4 ± 1.381 days) than the general anesthesia cohort (3 ± 2.274 days) (p = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS Evidence from the authors’ institutional experience and national analysis has demonstrated that awake MIS-TLIF is efficient and can reduce hospital LOS.

Resumen

This paper reports the photocatalytic decomposition of methylene blue (MB) over titania doped copper ferrite, CuFe2O4/TiO2 with 50 wt% loading, synthesized via sol-gel method. The synthesized photocatalyst was characterized by X-ray diffraction, UV-vis diffuse reflectance, and photoluminescence, Mott-Schottky (MS) analysis and linear sweep voltammetry (LSV). The catalyst loadings were varied from 0.25 – 1.0 g/L and the optimum catalyst loading found to be 0.5 g/L. At the optimum loading, the conversion achieved was 83.7%. The other loadings produced slightly lower conversions at 82.7%, 80.6% and 80.0%, corresponding to 0.25, 1 and 0.75 g/L after 3 hours of irradiation. The study on the effect of initial concentration indicated that 20 ppm as the optimum concentration, tested with 0.5 g/L catalyst loading. The spent catalyst was used for the recyclability test and demonstrated a high longevity with a degradation efficiency less than 6 % for each time interval. The novelty of this study lies on the new application of photocatalytic material, CuFe2O4/TiO2 on thiazine dye that shows remarkable activity and reusability performance under visible light irradiation. Absorption and magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectra are reported for the metallophthalocyanine-N-isologs: magnesium-3,4-pyridinoporphrazine (MgPcN4(−2)), zinc-3,4-pyridinoporphyrazine (ZnPcN4(−2)), and zinc-3,4-pyridazinoporphyrazine (ZnPcN8(−2)). Band deconvolution calculations, which couple both the absorption and the MCD spectra, are reported for each complex. The presence of the peripherally fused pyridine rings in MgPN4(−2) and ZnPcN4(−2) reduces the molecular symmetry and splits the degenerate Q band into its x and y components with zero field splitting parameters (ΔQxy) of 224 and 279 cm−1, respectively. Band fitting results for ZnPcN8(−2) show that with the fused pyridazine rings the degeneracy in the 1Eg excited state is retained and the MCD envelope in the region of the Q00 transition can be described by an MCD A term. Comparison of the fitted band energies with the results reported for ZnPc(−2) (T. Nyokong, Z. Gasyna, and M.J. Stillman. Inorg. Chem. 26, 1087 (1987)) and MgPc(−2) (E.A. Ough, T. Nyokong, K.A.M. Creber, and M.J. Stillman. Inorg. Chem. 27, 2725 (1988)) shows that as the number of nitrogens substituted increases from 0 to 8, the Q band blue shifts from 671 nm in ZnPc(−2) to 664 nm in ZnPcN4(−2) (midpoint between the x and y components) to 654 nm in ZnPcN8(−2) and from 672 nm in MgPc(−2) to 666 nm in MgPcN4(−2) (midpoint). These results demonstrate that chemical modification (symmetric and asymmetric) of the peripherally fused benzene rings influences both the energy and the symmetry of the states that form the inner 18-π-electron system.

Resumen

In this work, p-type CuFe2O4 was synthesized by sol gel method. The prepared CuFe2O4 was used as photocathode catalyst for photoelectrochemical (PEC) CO2 reduction. The XRD, UV-Visible Spectroscopy (UV-Vis), and Mott-Schottky (MS) experiments were done to characterize the catalyst. Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) was employed to evaluate the visible light (λ>400 nm) effect of this catalyst for CO2 reduction. The band gap energy of the catalyst was calculated from the UV-Vis and was found 1.30 eV. Flat band potential of the prepared CuFe2O4 was also calculated and found 0.27 V versus Ag/AgCl. Under light irradiation in the CO2-saturated NaHCO3 solution, a remarkable current development associated with CO2 reduction was found during LSV for the prepared electrode from onset potential -0.89 V with a peak current emerged at -1.01 V (vs Ag/AgCl) representing the occurrence of CO2 reduction reaction. In addition, the mechanism of PEC was proposed for the photocathode where the necessity of a bias potential in the range of 0.27 to ~ -1.0 V vs Ag/AgCl was identified which could effectively inhibit the electron-hole (e-/h+) recombination process leading to an enhancement of CO2 reduction reactions. Abstract While childhood-onset asthma is extensively modeled in labs and includes TH2 cell driven-, steroid-responsive, eosinophilic etiology, little is understood about late-onset asthma which presents as severe, steroid-resistant, and destructive neutrophilic disease with poor outcomes. Lack of appropriate disease models widens this knowledge gap leading to fewer therapies and poorer quality of life for neutrophilic asthma patients. Here, we discover that while conventional models of allergic asthma (relying on naïve sensitized mice acutely challenged with aerosolized ovalbumin) induces eosinophilic asthma, transient and recurrent aeroallergenic exposure over extended durations (as would occur in humans progressing into adulthood) reprograms the lung myeloid and lymphoid landscape to instigate neutrophilic asthma. Mice with such lung history harbor diverse clusters of lung-resident CD4+ TRM cells including a novel RORγt-negative-IL17A+ TH17 subset; the latter detectable in asthmatic adult human lungs. On allergen reencounter, these RORγt-negative TH17 cells, rapidly secrete IL-17A which signals into lung epithelial and stromal cells to express CXCL5 and induce neutrophilic asthma including peribronchial neutrophilia, vascular leakage and lung damage. We find that lung epithelial antigen presentation is crucial to regulate disease severity by skewing CD4+ TRM phenotypes in asthmatic lungs. Specifically, epithelial MHC-II supports TH1 TRM cells and IFNγ secretion; the latter being a potent suppressor of IL-17A-induced CXCL5 and airway neutrophilia. Thus, using a relevant model of the disease, we identify an ‘epithelium-lymphocyte-neutrophil’ circuitry as a critical regulator of late-onset neutrophilic asthma. Background: The extent of necrosis is the main determining factor in the outcome of osteonecrosis. There is no method for measuring the extent of osteonecrosis of the metatarsal head in Freiberg’s disease. The purpose of this study was to determine the reliability and prognostic ability of a new method for measurement of the extent of osteonecrosis in Freiberg’s disease on three-dimensional computed tomography. Methods: A retrospective review of 11 cases with symptomatic Freiberg’s disease in ten patients (5 males and 5 females; mean age, 27 years) undergoing computed tomography between July 2005 and September 2007 was performed. Two investigators (K.A.C. and H.K.O.) used a new method to measure the necrotic extent of the metatarsal head: the necrotic angle ratio of necrotic arc angle to normal arc angle of the articular surface on the sagittal reconstruction image of computed tomography. The interobserver reliability was determined for computed tomography measurement. Correlation between the Smillie staging using radiographs and the necrotic angle ratio on computed tomography was also evaluated. Results: One patient presented with stage I disease (Smillie staging), one with stage II, two with stage III, five with stage IV, and two with stage V, respectively. The necrotic angle ratio of the metatarsal head was 14% in stage I, 21% in stage II, 34% in stage III, 43% in stage IV, and 53% in stage V. The interobserver reliability for computed tomography measurement was high (Cronbach α=0.96). We found the increase of the necrotic extent in proportion to the Smillie stage. The Smillie staging using radiographs and the necrotic angle ratio on computed tomography were significantly correlated. (P<0.05) Conclusions: Three-dimensional computed tomography measurement of the necrotic extent of the metatarsal head is a reliable and useful method in evaluating the staging of Freiberg’s disease and may eventually help to optimize treatment.
