En proposant un lieu non-lieu, le potentiel utopique du jeu est, en effet, un outil formidable contre la répétition et le retour du même.

Cet article synthétise les différents outils disponibles pour mesurer la coopération en contexte scolaire, d’une part, et les avantages et limites qui s’y rattachent, d’autre part. L’examen de près de 230 documents a révélé trois principales catégories de mesures : les questionnaires, l’observation en classe et le jeu de l’investissement. En dépit de certains biais potentiels, la simplicité des questionnaires et leur durée d’administration brève en font une option intéressante pour mesurer les attitudes coopératives. Les pratiques d’observation offrent une validité écologique accrue, mais leur potentiel à produire une mesure généralisable de la tendance individuelle à coopérer reste à démontrer. Le jeu de l’investissement procure des indices directs de la coopération, tout en contournant certains biais relatifs à sa mesure. ainsi, malgré le coût élevé relatif à son administration, cette tâche constitue une piste intéressante pour les chercheurs en éducation désireux d’évaluer la coopération entre les élèves.

L’article analyse différents aspects du jeu dans les romans de Sophie Divry, une romancière de l’actualité aux allures de militante. Son œuvre protéiforme développe l’idée de ludisme littéraire qui assure du plaisir à l’auteur et engage le lecteur tout en transmettant un message sur la société. Dans l’essai Rouvrir le roman, l’écrivaine propose de réinventer le genre romanesque au moyen de l’esprit de non-sérieux qui est un stimulant de la littérature. Fondée sur l’intertextualité, l’écriture de Divry renouvelle de façon originale des modèles connus comme celui de Madame Bovary (La condition pavillonnaire) ou de Robinson Crusoé (Trois fois la fin du monde). Les jeux narratifs conduisent la romancière à élaborer une écriture polyphonique. L’étude du roman Quand le diable sortit de la salle de bain démontre le lien entre le jeu et l’autoréflexivité et relève le potentiel du ludisme au niveau langagier, typographique et formel.

Le RÉCITFAD développe des plugiciels pour Moodle, dont deux qui ont le potentiel d’intégrer des activités immersives : Tour 360 et Jeu d’évasion. Le plugiciel Tour 360 facilite la création d’activités immersives qui permettent à la personne apprenante de visiter virtuellement des environnements. À l’aide d’un casque de RV ou d’un support traditionnel, elle navigue d’une image ou d’une vidéo à l’autre pour y trouver des informations et des éléments interactifs. Le plugiciel Jeu d’évasion permet de proposer des défis de différentes natures et de niveaux de difficulté variés qui concordent avec les intentions pédagogiques de la personne enseignante. En plus de présenter ces deux plugiciels, cet article traite de la pertinence de créer des activités immersives en FAD et relève quelques exemples.

Quelle est la relation à l’espace dans les pratiques d’accompagnement ? N’y a-t-il pas une opportunité à explorer cette question compte tenu des processus de désaffiliation observés (publics dits invisibles). L’auteur définit ici l’espace comme la relation nouée avec ce qui nous entoure en montrant la dimension créative qu’il permet. à partir de l’analyse d’observations de terrain et le recueil de témoignages, il analyse les impacts du changement de lieu sur les personnes accompagnées. S’ouvre un autre espace d’inventivité permettant aux personnes, à certaines conditions, d’investir un lieu pour y mettre quelque chose d’elles, en s’ouvrant ainsi à des opportunités. L’article présente enfin un modèle fondé sur sept dimensions permettant d’expérimenter des formes d’accompagnement à faible structuration formelle et à forte inventivité circonstancielle, afin de remettre du jeu et de l’interaction dans des processus menacés de standardisation.

Résumé Si le terme « présidentiable » désigne communément, dans la vie politique française, un candidat potentiel à l’élection présidentielle crédité de chances sérieuses de figurer au second tour et de l’emporter, il n’en existe cependant pas de définition juridique : est présidentiable celui qui est dit tel. L’espace médiatique est le lieu incontournable de cette labellisation, où se donnent à voir l’endossement de la présidentiabilité par le prétendant et la reconnaissance par ses pairs ; surtout, les journalistes comptent parmi les acteurs principaux de cette intronisation : plus que simples intermédiaires de la publicisation du jeu politique, ces derniers participent à la construction de la notion de « présidentiable ». Bien réelle, la labellisation des présidentiables par les médias est néanmoins à relativiser, dans la mesure où d’autres ressources politiques (parti, expérience gouvernementale) entrent en jeu : il s’agit plutôt d’une consécration, d’une légitimation, que d’une création.

Résumé Cet article présente une étude de cas sur l’emploi du jeu théâtral avec six personnes ayant des symptômes psychotiques graves et persistants. L’étude vise à élaborer une hypothèse sur l’intérêt du médium théâtral pour la réadaptation. Les effets de la thérapie d’expression sur le développement des habiletés sociales sont rarement documentés par des études empiriques. La recension des écrits souligne la faiblesse de la généralisation des habiletés sociales lors de l’entraînement aux habiletés sociales. Elle fait ensuite le portrait de l’activité théâtrale et de son potentiel thérapeutique. La méthodologie d’approche qualitative se concrétise par une investigation en centre de jour psychiatrique avec description du comportement avant et après le programme. Les résultats indiquent des similitudes entre les acquis observés en clinique et le comportement social au quotidien. La thérapie médiatisée par le jeu théâtral contribuerait à la généralisation des habiletés sociales.

Il crée un espace dramaturgique au sein duquel les participants cherchent à résoudre des problèmes de métier en explorant des possibles d’action. Lieu d’une enquête collaborative, il constitue un espace potentiel d’apprentissage et de développement pour les enseignants.

Tableau d’honneur de la Faculté des études supérieures et postdoctorales, 2018-2019 "Notre recherche se situe dans le domaine de l’apprentissage des langues assisté par ordinateur (ALAO), plus précisément dans celui de l’intégration des jeux numériques pour l’apprentissage du vocabulaire. Bien que les recherches antérieures aient montré que l’apprentissage intentionnel de vocabulaire et la réutilisation systématique de mots s’avèrent bénéfiques pour l’apprentissage, les résultats des études ayant analysé l’utilisation des jeux numériques pour l’apprentissage intentionnel du vocabulaire ne font pas l’unanimité. Lors de l’utilisation de ces outils, les gains lexicaux des apprenants ne sont pas toujours significatifs, et, dans certains cas, les participants ne manifestent pas d’attitude positive envers leur utilisation. Pour mieux comprendre ces enjeux, nous avons effectué une recherche mixte visant à examiner le potentiel pédagogique d’un jeu numérique pour l’apprentissage du vocabulaire chez des élèves d’anglais langue seconde (ALS) du secondaire. Vingt-cinq étudiants ont utilisé le jeu numérique vocabulary.com pour apprendre 20 mots cibles. Au moyen des tests de vocabulaire, des questionnaires de perception, des observations, des traces numériques et des entrevues, nous avons étudié les gains lexicaux de participants, leur perception du jeu numérique ainsi que la façon dont ils l'ont utilisé. Les résultats ont montré que les gains lexicaux obtenus par les participants ont été significatifs. Bien qu’ils considéraient que le jeu numérique était surtout un outil d’apprentissage, ils trouvaient que cet outil avait contribué à l’apprentissage des nouveaux mots de vocabulaire. Finalement, grâce aux analyses effectuées à l’aide du cadre conceptuel de la Théorie de l’Activité, nous avons trouvé que des facteurs comme le niveau de complexité des questions, l’utilité perçue des mots proposés, le recours à des outils d’aide et la priorité donnée à la compétition ont affecté la façon dont chaque participant a utilisé le jeu numérique pour apprendre du vocabulaire."

Resumen

Le serious game d'apprentissage utilisé dans le monde professionnel se doit de lier la pratique du jeu à la pratique métier. Cet enjeu concerne les concepteurs, ainsi que les responsables de formation ou responsables des ressources humaines, tous intéressés par la transmission ou l'évaluation des compétences. Mais alors que les serious games simulant des relations interpersonnelles convoquent les notions de fiction, d'immersion, de réalisme ou encore de référentialité, ils réactivent des problématiques rencontrées par le cinéma documentaire. Thèse défendue : cette thèse propose que les théories et pratiques du cinéma documentaire puissent servir l'intention pédagogique du concepteur de serious game pour favoriser l'acquisition de nouvelles compétences chez l'utilisateur. Objectifs : sur le plan cognitif, l'objectif est d'explorer l'apprentissage lié à la confrontation de points de vue divergents (conflit sociocognitif), par l'intermédiaire d'un serious game monojoueur. L'objectif communicationnel associé est d'expliquer la construction d'un interlocuteur, fictif ou réel, capable d'opposer un point de vue à l'utilisateur. Pour répondre à ces objectifs, le cheminement historique et socioculturel du cinéma documentaire renseignera différentes formes discursives et relationnelles du serious game. Méthode : 4 configurations du même serious game EHPAD ont été expérimentées dans un quasi-plan d'expérience sur une période de 5 mois, auprès de 250 utilisateurs issus de 10 établissements médicaux. Notre enquête s'est appuyée sur des questionnaires auto administrés et l'enregistrement de traces d'activités. Aux traitements statistiques qui découlent de l'enquête s'ajoutent 5 focus groups, 3 entretiens individuels et des rapports d'observation. Principaux résultats : premièrement, une série de transpositions théoriques soutient l'analogie entre serious game et cinéma documentaire. Sur le plan empirique, notre enquête confirme cette analogie en soulignant que l'utilisation du serious game en contexte professionnel est propice à l'enclenchement d'une lecture documentarisante. Deuxièmement, la comparaison des configurations du jeu EHPAD démontre l'influence significative de deux figures narratives (mise en abyme et métalepse) sur l'accroissement de la documentarité et de la confrontation des points de vue. Au final, notre recherche aboutit à une "grammaire narrato-cognitive" permettant aux concepteurs de passer d'une écriture documentée, à une écriture documentaire : la compétence visée n'est plus cantonnée dans une fiction, mais étendue de manière réflexive aux énonciateurs réels.

Le jeu fait partie de l’éducation de l’enfant depuis toujours, et bien que les activités ludique et d’apprentissage aient des fins éloignées (le plaisir pour l’un, le savoir pour l’autre), nous montrons des conditions de possibilités pour qu’une activité d’apprentissage scolaire rencontre une activité ludique. Pour ce faire, notre méthodologie, fondée sur l’action didactique conjointe, met en perspective l’apprentissage pendant le jeu : un élève de 5e décrit une image cachée aux autres élèves qui la dessinent pour la deviner ; c’est le but du jeu et le but de l’enseignement-apprentissage. À partir de ce double enjeu ludique/apprentissage, nous modélisons des conditions de possibilités pour qu’une activité d’enseignement-apprentissage de savoirs soit ludique, ce qui abonde dans le sens d’un espace potentiel de développement-apprentissage du jeu en contexte scolaire Play has always been part of the education of the child, and although play and learning activities have far-reaching aims (pleasure for one, knowledge for the other), we show possibilities for a school learning activity to be playful. To do this, our methodology, based on the didactic joint action concept, put in perspective the learning during the game : a pupil of 5th class describes a hidden image to the other pupils who draw it to guess it ; that is the goal of the game and the purpose of teaching-learning. Resumen

Le paradigme classique pour concevoir un émetteur (codeur) et un récepteur (décodeur) est de concevoir ces éléments en assurant que l'information reconstruite par le récepteur soit suffisamment proche de l'information que l'émetteur a mis en forme pour l'envoyer sur le médium de communication. On parle de critère de fidélité ou de qualité de reconstruction (mesurée par exemple en termes de distorsion, de taux d'erreur binaire, de taux d'erreur paquet ou de probabilité de coupure de la communication).Le problème du paradigme classique est qu'il peut conduire à un investissement injustifié en termes de ressources de communication (surdimensionnement de l'espace de stockage de données, médium de communication à très haut débit et onéreux, composants très rapides, etc.) et même à rendre les échanges plus vulnérables aux attaques. La raison à cela est que l'exploitation de l'approche classique (fondée sur le critère de fidélité de l'information) dans les réseaux sans fil conduira typiquement à des échanges excessivement riches en information, trop riches au regard de la décision que devra prendre le destinataire de l'information. Il s'avère qu'actuellement, l'ingénieur n'a pas à sa disposition une méthodologie lui permettant de concevoir une telle paire émetteur-récepteur qui serait adaptée à l'utilisation (ou les utilisations) du destinataire.Par conséquent, un nouveau paradigme de communication appelé la communication orientée objectif est proposé pour résoudre le problème des communications classiques. Le but ultime des communications orientées objectifs est d'accomplir certaines tâches ou certains objectifs au lieu de viser un critère de reconstruction du signal source. Les tâches sont généralement caractérisées par des fonctions d'utilité ou des fonctions de coût à optimiser.Dans la présente thèse, nous nous concentrons sur le problème de quantification des communication orientées objectifs, c'est-à-dire la quantification orientée objectif. Nous formulons d'abord formellement le problème de quantification orientée objectif. Deuxièmement, nous proposons une approche pour résoudre le problème lorsque seules des réalisations de fonction d'utilité sont disponibles. Un scénario spécial avec quelques connaissances supplémentaires sur les propriétés de régularité des fonctions d'utilité est également traité. Troisièmement, nous étendons la théorie de la quantification à haute résolution à notre problème de quantification orientée objectif et proposons des schémas implémentables pour concevoir un quantificateur orienté objectif. The ultimate objective of goal-oriented communications is to achieve some tasks or goals instead of improving the accuracy of reconstructed signal merely. Tasks are generally characterized by some utility functions or cost functions to be optimized.In the present thesis, we focus on the quantization problem of the goal-oriented communication, i.e., the goal-oriented quantization. We first formulate the goal-oriented quantization problem formally. Secondly, we propose an approach to solve the problem when only realizations of utility function are available. A special scenario with some extra knowledge about regularity properties of the utility functions is treated as well. Thirdly, we extend the high-resolution quantization theory to our goal-oriented quantization problem and propose implementable schemes to design a goal-oriented quantizer. Fourthly, the goal-oriented quantification problem is developed in a framework of games in strategic form. It is shown that goal-oriented quantization could improve the overall performance of the system if the famous Braess paradox exists. Finally, Nash equilibrium of a multi-user multiple-input and multiple output multiple access channel game with energy efficiency being the utility is studied and achieved in different methods

Cette thèse se focalise sur les jeux de potentiel et une généralisation d'un jeu d'ordonnancement dans un graphe que nous avons appelé jeu de placement.Dans ce jeu, le coût d'un joueur est impacté par son voisinage.Nous pouvons illustrer cela avec un exemple : le placement de joueurs dans un train, pour lesquels la présence de voisins directs influe sur le bien-être.Les résultats de cette thèse se divisent en deux parties.Tout d'abord, nous étudions ces jeux en considérant l'existence et les propriétés de structure des équilibres.Nous nous posons la question fondamentale de savoir s'il existe des équilibres de Nash dans le jeu de placement.Si tel est le cas, nous tachons de déterminer si ces équilibres sont facilement calculables.Dans le cas où il n'existe pas d'équilibre nous prouvons la NP-complétude du problème.Dans un second temps nous nous intéressons à la notion de calcul distribué d'équilibre de Nash dans des jeux de placement.En particulier nous considérons un jeu basé sur le problème de Max-Cut, qui a été plus étudié en théorie des graphes.Cela nous a permis d'étendre nos travaux à une application aux réseaux mobiles pour la gestion d'interférences dans les réseaux sans fils.Nous avons pu, pour les différents jeux, mettre en place des algorithmes distribués de calcul d'équilibres et étudier leur convergence.Parallèlement, nous avons étendu les travaux de Max-Cut à un problème de sélection d'offre de qualité de service parmi divers fournisseurs d'accès.Nous comparons les performances d'algorithmes de calcul distribué d'équilibres et de minimisation de regret This thesis focuses on potential games and a generalized load balancing game in a graph we called placement game.In this game, the cost of a player is affected by its neighbors.We can illustrate this with an example: the placement of players on a train, where the presence of direct neighbors affects their well-being.The results of this thesis are divided into two parts.First, we study these games considering the existence and structural properties of equilibria.We ask ourselves the fundamental question of whether there are Nash equilibria in the placement game.If this is the case we aim to determine if they are easily calculable, if there is no such equilibria we prove the NP-completeness of the problem.Secondly we focus on the concept of distributed algorithms to compute Nash equilibria in placement games.In particular we consider a game based on the Max-Cut problem, which has been more frequently studied.This allowed us to expand our work to a mobile network application for managing interference in wireless networks.We were able, for those different games, to implement distributed algorithms to compute equilibria and study their convergence.Meanwhile, we have expanded the Max-Cut works with a selection of QoS offers problem from various network providers.We compare the performance of distributed algorithms and regret minimization

Resumen

Cette thèse étudie l'interaction technico-économique entre véhicules électriques et réseaux d'électricité. Le développement récent de la mobilité électrique invite en effet à analyser les impacts potentiels de la recharge de ces véhicules sur les réseaux électriques, mais aussi le soutien que ceux-ci pourraient apporter dans les réseaux du futur. Ce travail s'inscrit résolument dans le cadre des réseaux d'électricité intelligents ; la plupart des résultats de cette thèse s'appliquent tout aussi bien à un lave-linge, un chauffe-eau, une télévision tant que l'on leur prête la capacité d'intelligence ! Dès lors que les décisions des consommateurs électriques flexibles interagissent, ce cadre d'étude offre un terrain de jeu propice aux outils de théorie des jeux. Ceux-ci ont un apport direct lorsque le problème considéré a un fondement stratégique, mais leur application permet aussi de proposer des solutions sur des aspects où la théorie des jeux n'est pas forcément attendue : algorithmique, dans l'échange d'information entre acteurs, etc. La description de cet apport est l'objet principal de ce travail de thèse et se décompose en trois parties. En fil rouge, le cas des profils de charge rectangulaires – soutenus par de nombreux arguments pratiques mais souvent délaissés par les chercheurs – est analysé. En premier lieu, des questions algorithmiques se posent pour coordonner la charge de véhicules électriques dans un même périmètre du système électrique. Proposant et étudiant un algorithme de coordination, il est montré comment les propriétés fondamentales de celui-ci - sa convergence, l'efficacité de ses points de convergence – peuvent être déduite d'un jeu auxiliaire sous-jacent. L'analyse de ce jeu est faite en montrant qu'il appartient à la classe des jeux de potentiel, sous des hypothèses physiques et économiques très générales. Sur le plan de l'échange d'information, un modèle est proposé pour réfléchir à la bonne communication entre un opérateur du réseau et un véhicule. Ces deux agents ont intérêt à communiquer pour planifier la charge intelligente du véhicule électrique, mais ont des objectifs distincts. Ce cadre est très proche du Cheap-talk en théorie des jeux, mais aussi de la problématique de la quantification en traitement du signal. Ce travail tisse au passage des liens entre ces sujets. Il propose aussi une méthode pour que l'agent du réseau et le véhicule s'accordent hors-ligne sur un bon mécanisme d'échange d'information. Enfin, la théorie des jeux est appliquée dans un cadre plus habituel, pour analyser le jeu des acteurs. Ceci est fait quand des ensembles de véhicules de taille importante, vus comme des flottes, cohabitent avec des véhicules individuels. Ceci offre un terrain de jeu applicatif aux outils très récents des jeux composites. Dans ces trois directions de recherche, des simulations sont effectuées dans le cadre d'un réseau de distribution d'électricité, maille du système électrique qui pourrait vivre des impacts significatifs si la charge est non-coordonnée. En particulier, elles montrent la robustesse des méthodes proposées face aux incertitudes sur les données lorsque des profils de charge rectangulaires sont considérés This thesis studies the technical and economical interaction between electric vehicles and electrical networks. The recent development of electric mobility leads to the analysis of potential impacts of electric vehicle charging on the electrical networks, but also to the possible support that these particular electric consumers could provide in the future smart grids. In this direction, most of the results given in this thesis also apply to a washing machine, a water-heater, a TV, as soon as these equipments are capable of being smart! When the decisions of flexible electric consumers interact, the considered framework naturally offers a unique exercise area for the tools of game-theory. The interpretation is straightforward when the considered problem is strategic by definition, but these tools allow also shedding light on other aspects: algorithmic coordination, information exchange, etc. The description of the benefits of using game-theory in this context is the aim of this work. This is done according to three aspects. In these three directions, a particular attention is drawn to the case of rectangular charging profiles, which are very practical, but often ignored by the literature. First, algorithmic issues arise when coordinating the charging of electric vehicles in a same area of the electrical network. A charging algorithm is proposed and analyzed. This is done by studying an underlying auxiliary game. This game is proved to belong to the class of potential games under very general physical and economic assumptions. In turn, it inherits from the strong properties of this class of games, namely convergence and an efficiency result in the case of a large number of electric vehicles. Considering information exchange, a model is proposed to design a good communication scheme between an operator of the electrical system and an electric vehicle. Both agents have an interest in exchanging information to schedule optimally the charging profile of the electric vehicle but they do not share the same objective. This framework is closely related to Cheap-talk in game theory and to quantization in signal processing. Amongst others, this work explains interesting connections between both topics. Furthermore, a method, which is used offline, is given to obtain a good communication mechanism between both agents. Finally, game theory is used in its traditional form, studying the strategic interaction when groups of a large number of electric vehicles – seen as fleets – coexist with individual vehicles. This allows the application of the very recent concept of composite games. In the three parts of the work, simulations are conducted in a French realistic distribution network, which could be the first part of the electrical system severely impacted by a non-coordinated charging. This highlights the robustness of rectangular charging profiles against forecasting errors on the parameters of the models

Les fonctions d'une molécule d'ARN dans les processus cellulaires sont très étroitement liées à sa structure tridimensionnelle. Il est donc essentiel de pouvoir prédire cette structure pour étudier sa fonction. Le repliement de l'ARN peut être vu comme un processus en deux étapes : le repliement en structure secondaire, grâce à des interactions fortes, puis le repliement en structure tridimensionnelle par des interactions tertiaires. Prédire la structure secondaire a donné lieu à de nombreuses avancées depuis plus de trente ans. Toutefois, la prédiction de la structure tridimensionnelle est un problème bien plus difficile. Nous nous intéressons ici au problème de prédiction de la structure 3D d'ARN sous la forme d'un jeu. Nous représentons la structure secondaire de l'ARN comme un graphe : cela correspond à une modélisation à gros grain de cette structure. Cette modélisation permet de réaliser un jeu de repliement dans l'espace. Notre hypothèse consiste à voir la structure 3D comme un équilibre en théorie des jeux. Pour atteindre cet équilibre, nous utiliserons des algorithmes de minimisation de regret. Nous étudierons aussi différentes formalisations du jeu, basées sur des statistiques biologiques. L'objectif de ce travail est de développer une méthode de repliement d'ARN fonctionnant sur tous les types de molécule d'ARN et obtenant des structures similaires aux molécules réelles. Notre méthode, nommée GARN, a atteint les objectifs attendus et nous a permis d'approfondir l'impact de certains paramètres pour la prédiction de structure à gros grain des molécules The functions of RNA molecules in cellular processes are related very closely to its three dimensional structure. It is thus essential to predict the structure for understanding RNA functions. This folding can be seen as a two-step process: the formation of a secondary structure and the formation of three-dimensional structure. This first step is the results of strong interactions between nucleotides, and the second one is obtain by the tertiary interactions. Predicting the secondary structure is well-known and results in numerous advances since thirty years. However, predicting the three-dimensional structure is a more difficult problem due to the high number of possibility. To overcome this problem, we decided to see the folding of the RNA structure as a game. The secondary structure of the RNA is represented as a graph: its corresponds to a coarse-grained modeling of this structure. This modeling allows us to fold the RNA molecule in a discrete space. Our hypothesis is to understand the 3D structure like an equilibrium in game theory. To find this equilibrium, we will use regret minimization algorithms. We also study different formalizations of the game, based on biological statistics. The objective of this work is to develop a method of RNA folding which will work on all types of secondary structures and results more accurate than current approaches. Our method, called GARN, reached the expected objectives and allowed us to deepen the interesting factors for coarse-grained structure prediction on molecules

Dans la vie de tous les jours, lorsque nous regardons le monde qui nous entoure, nous bougeons constamment nos yeux. Notre regard se porte successivement sur différents endroits du champ visuel afin de capter l'information visuelle. Ainsi, nos yeux se stabilisent sur deux à trois régions différentes par seconde pendant des périodes appelées fixations. Entre deux fixations, nous réalisons des mouvements rapides des yeux pour déplacer notre regard vers une autre région ; on parle de saccades oculaires. Ces mouvements oculaires sont étroitement liés à l'attention. Quels sont les processus attentionnels mis en jeu lors de l'exploration de scènes ? Comment les facteurs liés à la scène ou à la consigne donnée pour l'exploration modifient-ils les paramètres des mouvements oculaires ? Comment ces modifications évoluent-elles au cours de l'exploration ? Dans cette thèse, nous proposons d'analyser conjointement les données oculométriques et électroencéphalographiques (EEG) pour mieux comprendre les processus attentionnels impliqués dans le traitement de l'information visuelle acquise pendant l'exploration de scènes. Nous étudions à la fois l'influence de facteurs de bas niveau, c'est-à-dire l'information visuelle contenue dans la scène et de haut niveau, c'est-à-dire la consigne donnée aux observateurs. Dans une première étude, nous avons considéré les facteurs de haut niveau à travers la modulation de la tâche à réaliser pour l'exploration des scènes. Nous avons choisi quatre tâches : l'exploration libre, la catégorisation, la recherche visuelle et l'organisation spatiale. Ces tâches ont été choisies car elles impliquent des traitements de l'information visuelle de nature différente et peuvent être classées en fonction de leur niveau de difficulté ou de demande attentionnelle. Dans une seconde étude, nous nous sommes focalisées plus particulièrement sur la recherche visuelle et l'influence de la contrainte temporelle. Enfin, dans une troisième étude, nous considérons les facteurs de bas niveau à travers l'influence d'un distracteur visuel perturbant l'exploration libre. Pour les deux premières études, nous avons enregistré conjointement les mouvements oculaires et les signaux EEG d'un grand nombre de sujets. L'analyse conjointe des signaux EEG et oculométriques permet de tirer profit des deux méthodes. L'oculométrie permet d'accéder aux mouvements oculaires et donc au déploiement de l'attention visuelle sur la scène. Elle permet de connaitre à quel moment et quels endroits de la scène sont regardés. L'EEG permet, avec une grande résolution temporelle, de mettre en avant des différences dans les processus attentionnels selon la condition expérimentale. Ainsi, nous avons montré des différences entre les tâches au niveau des potentiels évoqués par l'apparition de la scène et pour les fixations au cours de l'exploration. De plus, nous avons mis en évidence un lien fort entre le niveau global de l'activité EEG observée sur les régions frontales et les durées de fixation mais aussi des marqueurs de résolution de la tâche au niveau des potentiels évoqués liés à des fixations d'intérêt. L'analyse conjointe des données EEG et oculométriques permet donc de rendre compte des différences de traitement liées à différentes demandes attentionnelles In everyday life, when we explored the word, we moved continually our eyes. We focus your gaze successively on different location of the visual field, in order to get the visual information. In this way, our eyes became stable on two or three different regions per second, during period called fixation. Between two fixations, we make fast movements of the eyes to move our gaze to another position; it was called saccade. Eye movements are closely linked to attention. What are the attentional processes involved during scene exploration? How factors related to the scene or the task modify the parameters of eye movements? How these changes evolve during the exploration? In the thesis, we proposed to jointly analyze eye movements and electroencephalographic (EEG) data to better understand attentional processes involved during the processing of the visual information acquired during the exploration of scenes. We focused on low and high level factors. Low level factors corresponded to the visual information included in the scene and high level factors corresponded to the instruction give to observers. In a first study, we considered high level factors by manipulating the instructions for observers. We chose four tasks: free-exploration, categorization, visual search and spatial organization. These tasks were chosen because they involved different visual information processing and can be classified by level of difficulty or attentional demands. In a second study, we focused on the visual search task and on the influence of a time constraint. Finally, in a third study, we considered low level factors by analyzing the influence of a distractor disturbing the free-exploration of scenes. For the two first experiments, we jointly recorded eye movements and EEG signals of a large number of observers. The joint analysis of EEG and eye movement data takes advantage of the two methods. Eye tracking allowed to access to eye movements parameters and therefore to the visual attention deployment. It allowed knowing when and where the regions of the scene were gazed at. EEG allowed to access to differences on attentional processes depending on the experimental condition, with a high temporal resolution. We found differences between tasks for evoked potentials elicited by the scene onset and by fixations along the exploration. Furthermore, we demonstrated a strong link between the global EEG activity observed over frontal regions and fixation durations but also markers of the solving of the task on evoked potentials elicited by fixations of interest. Cette thèse porte sur l’étude du comportement en temps long des jeux à champ moyen (MFG) potentiels, indépendamment de la convexité du problème de minimisation associé. Pour le système hamiltonien de dimension finie, des problèmes de même nature ont été traités par la théorie KAM faible. Nous transposons de nombreux résultats de cette théorie dans le contexte des jeux à champ moyen potentiels. Tout d'abord, nous caractérisons par approximation ergodique la valeur limite associée aux systèmes MFG à horizon fini. Nous fournissons des exemples explicites dans lesquels cette valeur est strictement supérieure au niveau d’énergie des solutions stationnaires du système MFG ergodique. Cela implique que les trajectoires optimales des systèmes MFG à horizon fini ne peuvent pas converger vers des configurations stationnaires. Ensuite, nous prouvons la convergence du problème de minimisation associé à MFG à horizon fini vers une solution de l’équation Hamilton-Jacobi critique dans l’espace de mesures de probabilité. De plus, nous montrons une limite de champ moyen pour la constante ergodique associée à l’équation Hamilton-Jacobi de dimension finie correspondante. Dans la dernière partie, nous caractérisons la limite du problème de minimisation à horizon infini que nous avons utilisé pour l'approximation ergodique dans la première partie du manuscrit The purpose of this thesis is to shed some light on the long time behavior of potential Mean Field Games (MFG), regardless of the convexity of the minimization problem associated. For finite dimensional Hamiltonian systems, problems of the same nature have been addressed through the so-called weak KAM theory. We transpose many results of this theory in the infinite dimensional context of potential MFG. First, we characterize through an ergodic approximation the limit value associated to time dependent MFG systems. We provide explicit examples where this value is strictly greater than the energy level of stationary solutions of the ergodic MFG system. This implies that optimal trajectories of time dependent MFG systems cannot converge to stationary configurations. Then, we prove the convergence of the minimization problem associated to time dependent MFGs to a solution of the critical Hamilton-Jacobi equation in the space of probability measures. In addition, we show a mean field limit for the ergodic constant associated with the corresponding finite dimensional Hamilton-Jacobi equation. In the last part we characterize the limit of the infinite horizon discounted minimization problem that we use for the ergodic approximation in the first part of the manuscript

Resumen

Exceptions in Java are generated by explicit program syntax or implicit events at runtime. The potential control flow paths introduced by these implicit exceptions must be represented in static flow graphs. The impact of these additional paths reduces the effectiveness of standard aheadof- time optimisations. This thesis presents research that focuses on measuring and reducing the effects of these implicit exceptions. In order to conduct this research, a novel static analysis framework, called JeX, has been developed. This tool provides an environment for the analysis and optimisation of Java programs using the bytecode representation. Data generated by this tool clearly shows that implicit exceptions significantly fragment the standard flow graphs used by many intraprocedural optimisation techniques. This fragmentation increases the number of flow dependence relationships and so negatively affects numerous flow analysis techniques. The main contribution of this work is the development of new algorithms that can statically prove that certain runtime exceptions can never occur. Once these exceptions have been extracted, the control flow structures are re-generated without being affected by those potential exceptions. The results show that these algorithms extract 24-29% of all implicit potential exceptions in the eight benchmark programs selected. The novel, partial stack evaluation algorithm is particularly successful at extracting potential null pointer exceptions, with reductions in these of 53-68%. This thesis also provides a simulation of perfect exception extraction by removing the effects of all implicit exceptions in the flow graphs. The secondary contribution of this research is the development of program call graph generation algorithms with novel receiver prediction analysis. This thesis presents a comparative study of the graphs generated using fast but conservative analysis with more effective rapid type analysis algorithms. This study shows that Java bytecodes are well suited to a fine-grained instance prediction type analysis technique, although this context-sensitive approach does not scale well with larger test programs. The final contribution of this work is the JeX tool itself. This is a generic, whole program analysis system for Java programs. It includes a number of general optimisation modules, algorithms for generating several static analysis data structures and a visualisation interface for viewing all data structures and Java class file contents

Nachdem Nahtoderfahrungen (NTE) im Diskurs westlicher Gesellschaften inzwischen kein Nischenthema mehr sind, sondern bereits vielfach medial rezipiert und verbreitet wurden und werden, sind die Potentiale der wissenschaftlichen Erforschung des Themas noch bei Weitem nicht ausgeschöpft. Dies mag nicht zuletzt etwas damit zu tun haben, dass die Auseinandersetzung mit NTE vielleicht mehr als andere Themen etablierte Wissenschaftsverständnisse herausfordert. Der vorliegende Band macht daher drei Vorschläge zur Neuperspektivierung des Themas und zur Fortsetzung der begonnenen Diskussion: Gefragt werden soll nach der Aushandlung von Grenzen, nach ›Nahtoderfahrungen‹ als einem wissenschaftlichen Konzept und nach den Potentialen interdisziplinärer Arbeit. Hierzu werden Beiträge aus unterschiedlichen wissenschaftlichen Disziplinen wie etwa der Religionswissenschaft, der Theologie, der Soziologie und der Medizin versammelt, die sich aus ihrer je fachspezifischen Sicht mit dem Thema auseinandersetzen. Since near-death experiences (NDEs) are no longer a niche topic in the discourse of Western societies, but have already been and are being widely received and disseminated in the media, the potentials of scientific research on the topic are far from being exhausted. This may have something to do, not least, with the fact that dealing with NDEs challenges established understandings of science perhaps more than other topics. The present anthology therefore makes three proposals for a new perspective on the topic and for continuing the discussion that has already begun: It will ask about the negotiation of boundaries, about ›near-death experiences‹ as a scientific concept, and about the potentials of interdisciplinary work. For this purpose, contributions from different scientific disciplines such as religious studies, theology, sociology, and medicine will be gathered, each of them dealing with the topic from their own specific view.

AbstractThis design case offers a response to the pandemic crisis that cuts across pedagogical, technological, disciplinary, and administrative boundaries within a university in an effort to foment mutual learning and change. A team of five faculty from different disciplines joined forces to imagine a new online course that could contribute to novel educational redesigns. Titled “The Future of Learning at JMU,” the course was sponsored by the university administration and presented innovative ideas to key stakeholders across the institution. Undergraduate and graduate students collaborated in multidisciplinary teams and worked with faculty to engage stakeholders from across the institution via interviews and participatory presentations. This constituted a novel learning partnership that radically reconceptualized a university course as a design space that can participate in transformational institutional change.

Nina Holzschuh widmet sich in diesem Beitrag genderspezifischen Zuschreibungen über Heldentum in Nibelungenliedadaptionen. Insbesondere Siegfrieds Abenteuer im Nibelungenland weisen in den Adaptionen von Willi Fährmann, Hertha Kratzer und Franz Fühmann starke Bearbeitungstendenzen auf. Im Aufsatz werden daher genderspezifische Zuschreibungen über Heldentum vergleichend analysiert und die Ergebnisse auf ihre Potentiale für die Einbettung in den Deutschunterricht der gymnasialen Oberstufe befragt. Aufgrund der je unterschiedlichen literarischen Darstellung von Siegfrieds Jugend, Umstellungen in der Erzählreihenfolge und Ergänzungen aus der nordischen Sagentradition wird durch die Textanalyse dem Eindruck von Gender als ontologischer Kategorie entgegengewirkt und seine je historisch spezifische Ausgestaltung im Unterricht thematisierbar.

AbstractWhen liquid desiccant systems are employed to dehumidify air electrospraying technique helps to increase the surface area of the liquid. Multiplexing of the jets by introducing several emitters for increased efficiency is commendable but, there is a tendency of the jets to cross talk with each other due to electrical shielding. Cross talking of jets will result in the failure of the jets to break properly into droplets for effective dehumidification. This piece of work analyzed the conditions for electrical shielding among jets which results in efficient electrospray. To evaluate how cross talking affects multiple emitter nozzles, the mathematical model was built by superimposing the electric potentials of one emitter in an array of emitters. A Computational Fluid Dynamics simulation model was developed to investigate the conditions for electrical shielding among jets during electrospray process with glycerol as the working substance. In flow modelling, Ansys Fluent with Volume of Fluid and the Taylor Dielectric model were involved. The flow rate that guarantees stability in the electrospray was determined together with the optimum voltage resulting in a spray current which reduces electrical shielding. An analysis on the electrical conductivity of the liquid to ensure stability and efficiency in electrospray was done. The pressure contours of the nozzle were determined together with velocity of the desiccant against density. Emitter spacing, applied voltage, flow rate and the electrical conductivity plays a pivotal role on the prevention of cross talking of jets during the electrospraying process.

Resumen

ABB has designed a new family of industrial gasturbines for power generation using a Sequential Combustion Cycle (SCC) on a large single shaft engine. This concept allows considerable increase in power density and efficiency by only increasing pressure without raising the maximum hot gas temperature of the cycle. Instead a second combustion after an HP-turbine is used to reheat the gas before the final expansion in an LP-turbine. This concept is applied to the analysis of a high bypass ratio jet engine. In an engine with a single combustor, thrust is a function of bypass ratio and the combination of maximum pressure and temperature in the cycle. The proposed SCC allows increased thrust without pushing technology on materials and cooling. A modern twin spool engine is taken as reference. When total inlet massflow is kept constant, increasing bypass ratio decreases core mass flow. This limits the fuel flow for the HP-spool and hence total energy input to the engine. Introduction of the SCC gives another parameter of freedom to the cycle design. However the twin spool concept is now a disadvantage. The low fuel flow for the HP-spool due to high bypass ratio means there is not enough energy available to build up the necessary pressure for an economical expansion in the LP-turbine after the second combustion. Specific fuel consumption will be unacceptable. It is proposed to apply the SCC concept in a single spool engine with a geared fan. Both turbines can now support the compression. The fan is operated as a constant speed propeller with variable blade pitch. This engine concept allows for a given inlet massflow a substantially higher bypass ratio and hence decreases specific fuel consumption while specific thrust can be kept on a level which will be considerably higher than it would be in todays engines with comparable bypass ratio.

The original derivation of the PIR formula referenced in 49 CFR 192 is contained in the Gas Research Institute (GRI) report by C-FER Technologies (C-FER), "A Model for Sizing High Consequence Areas Associated with Natural Gas Pipelines" (Stephens 2000). It must be recognized that this formula was derived solely on the premise that thermal radiation from a jet/trench fire is the dominant hazard related to pipe rupture and subsequent ignition. Since natural gas is non-toxic and significantly lighter than air, this premise is valid. However, there are certain pipeline operators transporting flammable gases other than natural gas (e.g. hydrogen) that will be governed by the jet fire hazard, and thus there is a need for the derivation of PIR formulae for use in identifying high consequence areas for these pipelines. While the C-FER report provides a basis for derivation of such formulae, the dimensionless values for emissivity factor, release rate decay factor, and efficiency factor used in the original derivation of the PIR formula have not been validated or optimized for flammable gases other than natural gas.

Resumen

This study extends the literature on interfuel substitution by investigating the role of transactions costs and technological adjustment, focusing specifically on differences across countries with different potential for fossil fuel production. We find that fossil fuel producing economies have higher elasticities of interfuel substitution. Our simulations show that, compared to the baseline case of uniform elasticities, energy and climate policies result in a greater substitution among different sources of energy for countries with larger potential to produce fossil fuels. These results are important because they imply lower economic cost for policies aimed at climate abatement and more efficient utilization of energy resources in energy-intensive economies. In this paper we discuss the scope of the adaptation challenge facing world agriculture in the coming decades. Due to rising temperatures throughout the tropics, pressures for adaptation will be greatest in some of the poorest parts of the world where the adaptive capacity is least abundant. We discuss both autonomous (market driven) and planned adaptations, distinguishing: (a) those that can be undertaken with existing technology, (b) those that involve development of new technologies, and (c) those that involve institutional/market and policy reforms. The paper then proceeds to identify which of these adaptations are currently modeled in integrated assessment studies and related analyses at global scale. This, in turn, gives rise to recommendations about how these models should be modified in order to more effectively capture climate change adaptation in the farm and food sector. In general, we find that existing integrated assessment models are better suited to analyzing adaptation by relative well-endowed producers in the developed countries. They likely understate climate impacts on agriculture in developing countries, while overstating the potential adaptations. This is troubling, since the need for adaptation will be greatest amongst the lower income producers in the poorest tropical countries. This is also where policies and public investments are likely to have the highest payoff. We conclude with a discussion of opportunities for improving the empirical foundations of integrated assessment modeling with an emphasis on the poorest countries. Resumen

This paper investigates the potential impact of extended school days in reducing teenage fertility. We study the Jornada Escolar Extendida program, which doubled the school-day length from 4 to 8 hours in the Dominican Republic, and exploit the geographic and time variation induced by its gradual implementation. We find evidence that a higher exposure to JEE in the municipality, measured as the percentage of secondary students covered by the program, reduces the incidence of teenage pregnancies, and that the effect is stronger after the program has reached at least half of secondary students in the municipality. The estimates are robust to various specifications and alternative checks. These results suggest that extended school-day policies can have spillover effects regarding teenagers fertility choices.

Resumen

Liquid pipeline companies operate a number of different facilities, such as pump stations, that are part of the transport stream of hazardous liquids. Many of these facilities are typically unmanned and have a number of sources (e.g., flanges, valves, tanks, etc.) that can leak. The consequences of such a leak are heightened as the amount of time passes until the leak is detected. There is a need for a technology (or group of technologies) to be deployed at such sites to autonomously detect and raise an alarm in the event of a leak. A project was conducted to identify and evaluate (on paper) potential solutions for deployable technologies. The work on this project focused on leaks that originate at aboveground facilities in which the product either pools on the ground (e.g., crude oil, jet fuel, etc.) or changes phase above the ground upon exposure to atmospheric pressure (e.g., propane, liquefied natural gas, etc.). This work differs from prior PRCI research on continuous monitoring for buried assets in that continuous, subsurface detection is not required.
