Resumen
Abstract Context: Cooling jackets are a common method for removing stored heat accumulated during exercise. To date, the efficiency and practicality of different types of cooling jackets have received minimal investigation. Objective: To examine whether a cooling jacket containing a phase-change material (PC17) results in more rapid postexercise cooling than a gel cooling jacket and a no-jacket (control) condition. Design: Randomized, counterbalanced design with 3 experimental conditions. Setting: Participants exercised at 75% V˙o2max workload in a hot climate chamber (temperature = 35.0 ± 1.4°C, relative humidity = 52 ± 4%) for 30 minutes, followed by postexercise cooling for 30 minutes in cool laboratory conditions (ambient temperature = 24.9 ± 1.8°C, relative humidity = 39% ± 10%). Patients or Other Participants: Twelve physically active men (age = 21.3 ± 1.1 years, height = 182.7 ± 7.1 cm, body mass = 76.2 ± 9.5 kg, sum of 6 skinfolds = 50.5 ± 6.9 mm, body surface area = 1.98 ± 0.14 m2, V˙o2max = 49.0 ± 7.0 mL·kg−1·min−1) participated. Intervention(s): Three experimental conditions, consisting of a PC17 jacket, a gel jacket, and no jacket. Main Outcome Measure(s): Core temperature (TC), mean skin temperature (TSk), and TC cooling rate (°C/min). Results: Mean peak TC postexercise was 38.49 ± 0.42°C, 38.57 ± 0.41°C, and 38.55 ± 0.40°C for the PC17 jacket, gel jacket, and control conditions, respectively. No differences were observed in peak TC cooling rates among the PC17 jacket (0.038 ± 0.007°C/min), gel jacket (0.040 ± 0.009°C/min), and control (0.034 ± 0.010°C/min, P > .05) conditions. Between trials, no differences were calculated for mean TSk cooling. Conclusions: Similar cooling rates for all 3 conditions indicate that there is no benefit associated with wearing the PC17 or gel jacket.

Resumen
Double jacket mixing tanks offer temperature control and versatility for industrial processes where temperature-sensitive materials need to be mixed, stored, or processed. The selection of the appropriate jacket type in a double-jacket mixing tank is based on the structural strength and the optimal heat transfer performance. The type of jackets can be conventional, dimple, and half-pipe. The conventional jacket is easier to manufacture, but it is not resistant to high temperature and pressure. The dimple jacket has good heat transfer, but it is susceptible to damage. The half-pipe jacket has good structural strength, but its heat transfer is affected by the central angle and pipe diameter. 120° central angle has greater heat transfer and pressure drop than 180° central angle. In order to determine the effects of steam velocity on heat transfer performance, heating time, and pressure drop of the 120° half-pipe jacket, research occurred on pipes with 2, 2.5, and 3 inches of diameter. The calculating method of heat transfer in agitated jacketed vessels is applied to visualize the relationships. The effects of steam velocity on heat transfer, heating duration, and pressure drop respectively are polynomials of order 2, power, and polynomials of order 2 with an average R2 close to 1. The greater R2, the better the relationship between two variables, according to the equation. The 120° half-pipe jacket performance will be highly effective, with 1774 W, 2.1 minutes heating duration, 8.94 kPa pressure drop if the steam velocity is 10.50 m/s with 2.5 inches pipe diameter.

Resumen
Aim. To develop an approach for quantifying the reliability of the wired tripled control channel with common, mixed, and separate cable jackets. Method. Reliability is formalized using block diagrams and dynamic fault trees. Static and dynamic models have been developed to evaluate the reliability indicators of the wired control channel with triple redundancy. The basis for obtaining these models is the state and transitions diagram. Static models are formed using logical-probabilistic expressions. Dynamic models are based on the principles of Markov analysis. Results. For the core failure intensity, which is higher than the intensity of the cable jacket failure, it is shown that a separate cable jacket provides the highest reliability, and a common cable jacket provides the lowest. Accordingly, the mixed cable jacket in terms of reliability occupies an intermediate position with a slight approximation to the separate. Reliability indicators calculated from static models are understated in all three cases compared to those calculated from dynamic models. Although static models give less accuracy, they do not require the structure of sophisticated Markov models. Scientific novelty. The approach for modeling the reliability of control channels with triple core redundancy for cases of separate, mixed and common cable jackets has been improved. Practical significance. The proposed approach is recommended to be used to assess the reliability during the equipment design, the operation of which may endanger the life and health of service personnel. The obtained results are a mathematical basis for studying the reliability of a wired cable channel with three cores, which are protected by reinforcement and cable jacket in different combinations.

This paper presents the propagation of dual-band diamond dipole antenna on three various jackets. The jackets are purely fleece fabric with Shieldit fabric patches on top of it. The network analyzers with the flexible lossless coaxial cable are used to measure the communication of the antennas. The experiment involves a man with ideal body mass index (BMI) wearing the jackets by placing the flexible antennas on top of it. It is observed that the best on-body communication is by wearing the engineered jacket. The 10 dB improvements are observed when the antenna is positioned on top of engineered jacket contrast to the regular jacket. In other words, the performance of the antenna is also be determined by antenna placement. High transmission lossesses cause the antenna mismatch when the antennas are positioned above the full conductive jacket.

Resumen
For decades, ferrocement has been used to repair, strengthen, and even build structural components because it is a long-lasting and reasonably priced material. However, onsite ferrocement jacketing is time-consuming and labour-intensive. Alternatively, prefabricated ferrocement jacket installation eliminates these shortcomings. Therefore, this study utilises wearable prefabricated ferrocement jackets to repair and strengthen axially loaded sub-standard low-strength concrete elements. In order to repair cracked specimens and strengthen existing intact specimens, two types of wearable prefabricated jackets are proposed, ‘L’ shape and ‘U’ shape. Besides a control specimen, two preloaded and two unloaded square concrete specimens were utilised to repair and strengthen using the Prefabricated Ferrocement Jacketing system. The test results and crack patterns show that all the jacketed specimens performed better than the control specimens in terms of load-bearing capacity, ultimate axial and lateral deflection, and ductility. In terms of load-bearing capacity, the unloaded strengthened specimens showed significant results consistently. Based on the results, the proposed solutions were found to be effective in solving the problem of typical square ferrocement jackets.

Resumen
Abstract Variations and extremities in climatic conditions can result in cold stress for dairy calves during the preweaning period. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of calf jackets on the health, performance, and skin temperature of dairy-origin beef calves. This study took place in a designated calf rearing unit, spanned for a duration of 1 yr, and consisted of five batches of calves. Calves (30.9 ± 1.68 d of age; 55.9 ± 0.20 kg live weight) were assigned to one of four treatment groups on arrival at the rearing unit. Treatments consisted of control (no jacket), arrival (jacket for 2 wk postarrival), weight (jacket for a minimum of 2 wk and until 65 kg live weight), and wean (jacket until 5 d postweaning). Ambient conditions differed significantly (P < 0.001) during each of the five batches; batch 4 was the coldest with a mean ambient temperature of 6.16 °C. Significant differences were observed between the five batches for day 50 weight (P < 0.01) and disease incidence (P < 0.05). However, treatment had no significant effect on calf health or performance (P > 0.05) during any of the five batches. Skin temperature was significantly greater (P < 0.001) for calves wearing a jacket. Furthermore, there was a significant (P < 0.001) relationship between ambient temperature-humidity index and skin temperature for calves with and without a calf jacket. Therefore, although calf jackets had no benefit in terms of health or performance, they did act as a barrier to environmental conditions.

Resumen
The design of a temperature monitoring and stabilization system on a microcontroller based cold region outdoor jacket by utilizing microcontroller technology, by ensuring user comfort while in a cold temperature environment. This research is shown specifically in cold areas, with the aim of preventing hypothermia commonly experienced by climbers or humans, who are active in cold areas. The results of the system research on outdoor jackets that can monitor and stabilize the user's body temperature automatically, especially in cold areas. This system uses an ESP32 microcontroller, which is equipped with the Blynk application to control and monitor temperature using a smartphone. When the ambient temperature drops below 20°C, the system automatically activates the carbon fiber heating pad to maintain a stable body temperature. The jacket is designed to function offline, where the system will rely on the temperature sensor to activate the carbon fibre heating pad if the temperature drops below 20°C. Test results show that the system works well, providing efficient results in power consumption, responsive to temperature changes, and effective in maintaining temperature stability. The resulting jacket is comfortable and safe so that it does not interfere with outdoor jacket users in various conditions.

Resumen
Vibration damping of jacket platforms is among the significant issues in marine science and engineering, and the design of active vibration control schemes is very important to ensure the stability and safety of the jacket platforms against external loadings. This paper provides three fuzzy output feedback H ∞ controllers of the jacket platforms for irregular wave forces. By considering time-varying masses of jacket platforms, a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy dynamic model of the structure is established. Then fuzzy output feedback H ∞ control schemes are developed via using output signals of the platform with current and/or are delayed. Several existence conditions of fuzzy output feedback H ∞ controllers are derived. Simulation results demonstrate that the fuzzy output feedback H ∞ control strategies are remarkable to suppress the vibration of structure. Moreover, by choosing proper delayed output information of the system, the presented delayed fuzzy output feedback H ∞ control schemes outperform the conventional fuzzy output feedback H ∞ control approach.

Resumen
This thesis is concerned with robust control of an offshore steel jacket platform subject to nonlinear wave-induced forces. Since time delay and uncertainty are inevitably encountered for an offshore structure and their existence may induce instability, oscillation and poor performance, it is very significant to study on how the delay and uncertainty affect the offshore structure. In this thesis, a memory robust control strategy is, for the first time, proposed to reduce the internal oscillations of the offshore structure under wave-induced forces, so as to ensure the safety and comfort of the offshore structure. Firstly, when the system's states are adopted as feedback, memory state feedback controllers are introduced for the offshore structure. By using Lyapunov-Krasovskii stability theory, some delay-dependent stability criteria have been established, based on which, and by combining with some linearization techniques, memory state feedback controllers are designed to control the offshore structure. The simulation results show that such controllers can effectively reduce the internal oscillations of the offshore structure subject to nonlinear wave-induced forces and uncertainties. On the other hand, a new Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional is introduced to derive a less conservative delay-dependent stability criterion. When this criterion is applied to the offshore structure, an improved memory state feedback controller with a small gain is obtained to control the system more effectively, which is sufficiently shown by the simulation. Secondly, when the system's outputs are adopted as feedback, memory dynamic output feedback controllers are considered for the offshore structure. By employing a projection theorem and a cone complementary linearization approach, memory dynamic output feedback controllers are derived by solving some nonlinear minimization problem subject to some linear matrix inequalities. The simulation results show that the internal oscillations of the offshore structure subject to nonlinear wave-induced forces are well attenuated. Finally, robust H control is fully investigated for the offshore structure. By employing Lyapunov-Krasovskii stability theory, some delay-dependent bounded real lemmas have been obtained, under which, via a memory state feedback controller or a dynamic output feedback controller, the resulting closed-loop system is not only asymptotically stable but also with a prescribed disturbance attenuation level. The simulation results illustrate the validity of the proposed method.

In this thesis, my contribution focuses on the development of a methodology for intelligent control of the maximum temperature in a tubular reactor. These expressions are derived from an analytical model previously published by (Vernières-Hassimi et al., 2016) and have been adapted and simplified for their application in this context. The first analytical expression developed concerns the calculation of the position of the maximum reaction temperature, a fundamental parameter for safety in tubular reactors. This expression allows for the analysis of the behaviour of the hot spot inside the reactor and how its position varies according to changes in input parameters, which facilitates a more appropriate selection of operational configurations. Furthermore, this expression integrates with the formula previously developed by (Vernières-Hassimi et al., 2016). The second expression results from a resolution of the original equation, through which the reactor's cooling temperature is calculated. This expression is particularly useful for determining the cooling temperature in response to variations in operational conditions, thus providing an effective tool for the thermal management of the system

Resumen
[Partial abstract]: Human-wildlife conflict is a widely observed phenomenon and encompasses a range of negative interactions between humans and wildlife. Depredation upon livestock and game species proves to be the prevalent form of this conflict and often results in the killing of carnivores. Within the South African context, despite intense lethal control, two sympatric mesopredators, the blackbacked jackal (Canis mesomelas) and the caracal (Caracal caracal), remain common enough to be considered a major threat to human livelihoods through depredation. Wildlife ranches and livestock farms dominate the landscape in the Eastern Cape Province. Moreover, human-predator conflict within the region is extensive as both the black-backed jackal and caracal are seen to be inimical by landowners. Understanding this conflict is essential for mitigating any potential adverse environmental reactions (i.e. range collapses or extinctions) and requires knowledge of anthropogenic, ecological and environmental factors. I interviewed 73 land owners across five municipal boundaries in the Eastern Cape to quantify perceptions of predator control methods.

JACIE relies on transplant programs voluntarily applying for accreditation: it is important to understand that programs, rather than centres, apply meaning that all three infrastructures and teams (cell collection, cell processing and patient care unit) jointly engage in the accreditation process. The purpose of JACIE standards is to ensure a minimal level of quality, and harmonize laboratory and clinical practices in the field of onco-hematology. Implementation and follow-up of indicators do not necessarily reflect on quality and safety of patient care. The first aim of this study is to identify indicators set in place by the programs and to assess how their measure could be translated in qualitative benefit or quantitative benefit for the patient or the hospital. A survey was launched to 82 programs that were holding a valid accreditation, starting with French centres, and then extending to accredited programs in other European countries. Quality indicator is a tool for assessing healthcare delivery and indicator approach is commonly employed for risk management in healthcare systems. Thus, the second aim of this study is to understand whether a method was used to implement efficiently the indicators and to evaluate if all the HSCT processes are monitored

Resumen
This paper investigates the influence of system-level innovations on the fatigue life of jacket substructures for offshore wind turbines. The innovations consist of active control strategies as individual pitch control and individual flap control. Further the effect of a magnetic pseudo direct-drive generator (PDD) mounted upfront the rotor is investigated. Fully-coupled aeroelastic simulations are performed for 10 MW and 20 MW wind turbines, with the selected innovations, supported by jacket structures under specific met-ocean conditions at 50 m of water depth. Fatigue limit states at the jacket’ welded joints are evaluated based on S-N curves and Miner’s rule according to DNV-RP-C203 guideline. Results show the potential of advanced control systems to reduce stresses at jacket members. Few design challenges characterize PDD models, as increased tower base torsional loads and excitation of global bending modes may be critical for jacket’s members. Altogether, this study indicates the benefit of an integrated-iterative design approach for jacket substructures, where system-level parameters are iterated along with the jacket design parameters using fully-coupled models.

Resumen
The turned mass damper (TMD) system has found extensive applications in vibration control nowadays. The main disadvantage of the system is to add additional mass to the structures. In order to make use of its merits and overcome its disadvantage, the developed turned mass damper (DTMD) vibration control system is studied in this paper. It uses the equipment set on the structure instead of additional mass to control the vibration of structures. The theory analysis shows that the frequency range is enlarged and the resonant band is reduced with the mass ratio increasing. The FEM simulation shows that the DTMD vibration control system could absorb more vibration energy when the frequency of the DTMD is near the excitation frequency. The platform has better vibration control effect when the mass ratio between 3.75 and 5 and when the frequency ratio is in the range of (0.3,0.35) and (0.35,0.5). The whole system, including the platform and the DTMD, has the smaller vibration response when the frequency ratio is between 0.5 and 2. The results of the simulation also showed that the DTMD is more effective in the vibration control for the jacket platforms.

Resumen
Abstract The jacket structure is a fixed offshore structure. Its natural frequency of vibration is higher than the peak ocean wave frequency. Generally, the response of the jacket structure platform is significantly small in comparison to other floating offshore structures. But, the small response is good enough to generate significant stress at the joint level of jacket members. This is due to the rigid connection between the members at the joint level. In literature also, it’s well-studied that the joint of the jacket structure is vulnerable to stress developed and shows fatigue damage. Further, a reduction in the response of jacket structure using conventional design procedures may have a huge financial burden. So, dynamic response control of such a structure to reduce the effect of fatigue damage at the joint of members is the most economical and practical approach. In this paper, a tuned liquid column damper (TLCD) is used as a passive control device to control the response of the jacket structure. The control in response is achieved by tuning the TLCD at the natural frequency of the Jacket structure. This gives control only at the natural frequency of the structure, but the response at excitation frequency remains unchanged. This way, the total control achieved is not good enough. Further, TLCD is converted to semi-active TLCD by changing the pressure at the column. The fuzzy control algorithm is used to guide the pressure changes in the TLCD column so that optimum control at the natural frequency of the jacket and excitation frequency can be achieved. Further, the robustness of Semi-active TLCD is also shown based on a change in the nature of excitation.

Resumen
Jacket platforms are inevitably undergoing the environmental loads such as wind, waves, current, ice and earthquake etc., which will induce continuous vibration of the platforms. The vibration, on one hand, will cause fatigue damage, decreasing the platform’s reliability; on the other hand, the excessive vibration can’t satisfy the basic psychological requirements of the personnel. In order to reduce the excessive vibration of jacket platforms effectively, many control strategy and control equipments are proposed and studied. In the present study, a model experiment is designed to investigate the effectiveness of semi-active vibration control system with Magnetorheological (MR) Damper. A typical jacket offshore platform in Mexico Gulf is selected as experimental prototype. The model of the jacket platform is designed based on dynamical similarity criterion by the scale of 1:50. Furthermore, the optimal semi-active system of MR damper is designed by fuzzy control theory. In order to investigate the control effect of MR damper on the jacket platform under regular and random wave state, several model experiment load cases are performed. The experimental results show that the MR system designed by fuzzy theory can reduce the vibration of the platform effectively and in the same time the control effect is stable.
