Resumen
The number of transracial adoptions in the United States, particularly international adoptions, is increasing annually. Counseling psychology as a profession, however, is a relatively silent voice in the research on and practice of transracial adoption. This article presents an overview of the history and research on transracial adoption to inform counseling psychologists of the set of racial and ethnic challenges and opportunities that transracial adoptive families face in everyday living. Particular attention is given to emergent theory and research on the cultural socialization process within these families.

Resumen
While research has explored birth parent grief and loss, it has not been thorough in exploring how the experience of having an open adoption affects birth parents’ grief and loss experience and resolution. Previous research has highlighted positive effects of open adoptions to date, but is quite limited in regards to the birth parents’ adjustment in current day, open adoptions. This descriptive, qualitative study explores birth parents’ experiences in current day, open adoptions and seeks to understand their experience of grief and loss and their movement towards grief resolution in the context of an open adoption. Findings of this study confirm that the experience of adoption placement involves grief and loss and that openness in adoption helps to mitigate this painful experience. Most notably, birth parents found meaning, comfort, and peace in knowing of their child’s well-being and by having ongoing involvement in the life of the child and adoptive family. This opens new avenues in thinking about adoption and the meanings participants make of it.

Resumen
This Comment will propose eliminating the adoptive parent's weight as a determinative factor in adoption proceedings, evaluating instead the parenting skills of the potential parents, as well as their ability to emotionally, physically, and financially care for the adopted child. Part II of this Comment will discuss the history of adoption law in the United States and show how this area of law arose out of the need to find loving homes for the overwhelming number of orphaned children in America. Part II will also describe the current adoption process to demonstrate how adoption agencies and the court system use discriminatory screening factors to give preference to "ideal" parents. Part III will provide an introduction to obesity and discuss how size stereotypes in American society negatively affect the obese person in numerous aspects of life from childhood through adulthood. Part III will also discuss the current federal and state laws already enacted to combat size discrimination in the workplace and suggest that similar laws be put in place in adoption proceedings as well. Part IV will propose that disallowing a person of size to adopt is weight discrimination and is likely unconstitutional as a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. Part V will discuss how an obese person may have a more difficult time in adopting a child due to the courts' ability to discretionarily deny an adoption based on the adoptive parent's weight. It will also examine similar practices of weight discrimination in international adoptions and argue that if the United States adopts the policy of denying adoption based on the prospective parent's weight, the obese person may not be able to adopt a child of any race, either foreign or domestic. Part V will then suggest the fallacy in the courts' concerns with granting an adoption to a person of size and illustrate how allowing an obese person to adopt will still meet the courts' objective of doing what is in the best interest of the child. Finally, Part VI will argue that the best course of action is to rescind the discriminatory policy of denying adoption based solely on the parent's weight, and allow adoptions to be based on the individual's parenting skills as well as his or her ability to financially and emotionally support the child.

Adoption on the initial basis is the adoption of a child that results in the adoption of anadopted child from his own father's relationship and is included in the relationship of his adoptivefather. In practice adoption is usually carried out by people who in their marriages do not produceoffspring. By adopting the adopted child has a relationship with the adoptive father as with his ownfather. Inherited inherited relationship between adopted children and adoptive father. Before Islamcame, adoption had been carried out by Arabs and had become a hereditary tradition known astabanni which means taking children. Resumen
Adoption is a legal action to transfer custody of a child from a parent, legal guardian, or another person responsible for the care, education, and care of the child to the care of the adoptive parent. The adoption of children is generally carried out by married couples who cannot have children. Apart from a reproduction factor, there are a lot of other things encouraging adopting a child, one of them is compassion. This study aimed to examine the requirements for adoption based on PP. 54 of 2007 and the legal consequences of adopting children by adoptive parents of different beliefs from the prospective adopted children. This research is a normative legal research. Based on the results and discussion of this study, it was found that requirements for adoption based on PP. 54 of 2007 has been clearly regulated, and the detailed procedures and requirements for adoption have been regulated in Law No. 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection with implementing regulations in the form of Government Regulation No. 54 of 2007 concerning the Implementation of Adoption and clear details in the Minister of Social Affairs Regulation No. 110 of 2009 concerning Requirements for Adoption of Children. In addition, adoption by prospective parents with different beliefs can be carried out by having a statement letter from the biological parents of the prospective adopted child stating that the child follows the beliefs of the adoptive parents. Whereas for homeless children a statement letter from the biological parents is made by the foundation or institution that accommodates the child.

Resumen
The aim of our study was to examine the associations between heterosexual and sexual minority adoptive parents’ adoption-related help-seeking and their service satisfaction with pediatricians and mental health providers. We examined associations with (a) satisfaction with pediatricians and (b) understanding of adoption by a mental health provider among adoptive parents who sought advice for adoption-related issues using data drawn from the Modern Adoptive Families study ( N = 1,419). Logistic regressions were used to examine associations with service-seeking and satisfaction with professionals’ adoption advice. About half of the sample adopted a child with either special needs at placement (55%) and/or preplacement adversity (74%), which were significantly associated with seeking adoption-related advice. Consulting pediatricians about adoption was common (78%), and 83% of those parents reported being satisfied with adoption-related advice provided by their pediatrician. About half (51%) of the parents sought mental health services, but only 41% of those parents reported having access to an adoption-competent mental health provider and 50% of those parents felt their mental health provider understood adoption. Parent sexual orientation, higher income, older child age, and having a child with special needs were positively associated with satisfaction with adoption-related advice provided by the pediatrician and having a mental health provider who understood adoption. Adopting a child with special needs at placement and an older child were positive associations of seeking adoption-related help, while parent demographics, including higher household income, were positively associated with satisfaction. Results suggest an inclusive family-centered approach to care is important.

Resumen
This study examined correlates and predictors of parenting stress among internationally adopting (IA) mothers with the goal of expanding the knowledge base on the experiences of adoptive parents. One hundred and forty-three IA mothers completed pre-adoption (Time 0) and six months post-adoption (Time 1) surveys with questions regarding child-, parent-, and family-related characteristics. Mother reports of higher depression symptoms, higher expectations of child developmental and behavioral/emotional problems, and a greater number of children in the family at pre-adoption were significantly related to higher parenting stress six months post-adoption. In contrast, mother reports of higher expectations for child acceptance and higher perceived social support at pre-adoption were significantly related to lower parenting stress six months post-adoption. Higher maternal depression symptoms, higher expectations of child behavior/emotional problems, and a greater number of children in the family at pre-adoption together accounted for 22% of the variance in parenting stress six months post-adoption. Concurrent higher maternal depression symptoms and higher reports of child behavioral/emotional problems predicted higher parenting stress six months post-adoption over and above pre-adoption predictors, and accounted for an additional 33% of the variance. Results and directions for future research are discussed from a transactional perspective, with particular emphasis on the importance of pre-adoptive information for adoption research and practice.

Resumen
Abstract Post-adoption services provide guidance to adoptive families concerning common and specific circumstances. Despite adoption is a lifelong experience, most of the post-adoption resources are oriented towards children, adolescents and their adoptive parents. However, it is also necessary to focus on the demands and interventions with adult adoptees. The aim of this article is to review adult adoptees’ demands for post-adoption resources, applicants’ characteristics and resources offered to them. A systematic search was conducted in several databases, finding forty studies that fulfilled the selection criteria (about adults, domestic/international adoptions and published between 2005 and 2018). The included studies showed mainly three needs: contact with birth family, ethnic identity and birth culture, and psychological support. Additionally, adoptees who demand post-adoption resources are a heterogeneous group. This review collects structured programmes focused on different topics: search for origins, attachment development and professionals’ training in adoption. In addition, we also found some specific post-adoption services and other tools, such as support groups or cultural events. Finally, adoptees also have access to other resources that are not specifically for them, such as mental health services. The scarce existence of evidence-based interventions is an important weakness in this work. Recommendations for future research and practice are included.

Resumen
Abstract This article examines false registration as a method of domestic adoption in South Korea. The article argues that the practice of falsely registering adoptees as natural births in the family registry emerged in response to the highly restrictive adoption laws in South Korea. As adopting agnatic kin for the purpose of family succession was deemed the only legitimate form of adoption, significant hurdles existed for other kinds of adoption in Korea. This article examines the history of domestic adoption in Korea and highlights the legal hurdles to domestic adoption. These restrictive adoption customs first originated during the Chosŏn dynasty (1392–1910) as a prescription for yangban elite; they were then codified as customary law for all Koreans under Japanese colonial rule (1910–45). The ban on non-agnatic adoption continued in the postcolonial period when it was codified in the new Civil Code of 1960. Multiple legal reforms were attempted since the 1970s to promote domestic adoptions, but change was slow. This article argues that the highly restrictive nature of adoption laws in South Korea produced an adoption regime that existed largely outside of the legal realm.

Resumen
Purpose: The two goals of this article are the analysis of the duration of adoptive placements ending in breakdown and the role of age at placement in the breakdown experience. Method: All known cases of adoption breakdown during a whole decade in Andalusia, a Spanish region, were studied. Preadoption and formalized adoptions, domestic and intercountry adoptions were included. Data were analyzed using survival analysis, Cox regression, χ2, and rate ratio analyses. Results: The duration of adoptive placements ending in breakdown, significantly shorter in intercountry adoptions, is associated with a configuration of characteristics in the child, the adoptive parents and adoptive family life, and professional intervention. Among child-related factors, age at placement is of special relevance for the breakdown experience. Conclusions: Placements involving older children last less and break down more frequently, but are not condemned to failure. They need to be better supported with protective factors compensating the risks.

Resumen
Evidence of child abduction for intercountry adoption challenges our notions of altruism. The history of illicit adoptions and child abduction is presented with specific emphasis on Guatemala as a case example. Drawing on data produced in an ethnographic research, the analysis searches to elucidate how those involved in intercountry adoption in Spain (mainly adoptive and prospective adoptive parents) deal with signs of fraud and corruption. The results point out how these discourses usually dismiss the failures of the system and revolve around the idea of rescue. The rights of birth families – and even their mere existence – are usually absent in the discussion.

Resumen
This is an exploratory study focused on open adoptions from foster care conducted through the public child protection agency in New South Wales, Australia. The results from an online survey completed by 23 respondents indicated that most of the adoptees were reportedly in the normative range of adjustment, had positive relationships with their adoptive parents and had ongoing contact with their birth families. Most of the adoptive parents had received pre-adoption supports to encourage post-adoption contact. These preliminary results are encouraging, but larger and preferably longitudinal studies are needed to guide decision-making regarding adoptions from foster care. The new challenge for the child welfare system is how to collect reliable data about the well-being of children already living in this permanent type of care and how best to support them.

Resumen
It is human nature to live peacefully and happily with a complete family. As a complement to a family is the birth of children. When the offspring in the form of the desired child is not obtained naturally, it is done by adopting a child. The legal basis for regulating child adoption prior to the enactment of Government Regulation Number 54 of 2007 concerning the Implementation of Child Adoption, is carried out based on customary law, sharia law, and also based on a deed of adoption made before a notary, but after the enactment of Government Regulation Number 54 of 2007 concerning Implementation of Adoption child, the adoption of a child must be carried out through a court decision or stipulation. The need for a notary deed here is meant by the existence of a deed made before a notary, the deviations in a child adoption process will be minimized. The act of adopting a child contains juridical consequences that the adopted child has legal standing against the adopter, also includes the right to be able to inherit the wealth left by his adoptive parents at the time of death.

Resumen
Adoption in general is an act of taking someone else's child based on legal provisions that apply to the community concerned. Based on the determination number: 597/Pdt.P/2020/PN Dps and number: 924/Pdt.P/2019/PN Jkt Sel. It is known that there are adoptive parents who already have two biological children, this of course is not in accordance with Government Regulation Number 54 ofx2007 concerning the Implementation of Adoption. The problem in this research is that the cause of adoption is not in accordance with Government Regulation No. 54 ofx2007 and adoption from the perspective of Human Rights. The theory used in the analysis is the theory of justice, distributive justice, which is the balance between what a person gets and what he deserves. This type of research used in this paper is a type ofxnormative legal approach. The cause ofxado ption in this case is because the biological parents cannot fulfill the child's rights, so that the adoption of the child is carried out so that the fulfillment of the child's rights is fulfilled by the adoptive parents. Children's rights have a relationship with human rights and are regulated by the state. Therefore, there needs to be good cooperation between the government and the community through outreach, counseling and assistance activities in order to increase understanding of the requirements, procedures and fulfillment of children's rights in the implementation of adoption. The implementation of adoption explains that one of the requirements for prospective adoptive parents is not having children or only having one child, However, in its implementation, there was a judge's decision that allowed prospective adoptive parents who had biological children before adopting a child. So, There needs to be an update or amendment to the regulations regarding the requirements for adoption, which should prioritize the fulfillment of children's rights.

Resumen
This paper analyses the adoption of mixed-race children in Great Britain from formerly colonised or dominion territories after the Second World War with a focus on the late 1950s and early 1960s. It explores the ways in which mixed-race children and their biological, as well as their adoptive families, were treated in the adoption system in order to explore the tensions that arise between adoption and questions of racial belonging. As adoption and its related processes have the ability to profoundly interfere with the most private realms of human cohabitation—the family, this positions the history of adoption right at the interface of the private and the public sphere, offering an ideal background to look at the public as well as the private perception of the (decolonising) British Empire. By taking this specific group of children into focus, it is possible to illustrate the immediate and deeper effect of the race/colour question in adoptions as if under a magnifying glass. In the context of adoption processes, deeply colonial and inherently racist patterns of thought can be found, particularly in adoption records, but also in advice literature.

Resumen
The study examines the role of prospective adoptive parents’ infertility resolution in their future adoption adjustment. Infertility resolution is considered to be a result of going through a series of emotional reactions: denial, anger and offence, guilt, despair and depression, acceptance (resolution). The author argues that adoption readiness implies the infertility resolution: adjustment and accepting of infertility emotions, as well as considering adoption as an alternative way to parenthood, which is not able to replace birth of one’s own child. The problem was investigated in a short-term longitudinal study. In pre-adoption stage 65 prospective adoptive parents participated in semi-structured interviews that assessed their emotional reaction to infertility. In post-adoption stage (2 years later) adoptive families with different levels of adoption adjustment were analyzed depending on patterns of adoptive parents’ emotional reaction to infertility before adoption. The results showed that infertility resolution of prospective adoptive parents is a significant factor of successful adoption adjustment. Key words: adoption, adoption adjustment, adoptive parents, childlessness, infertility resolution.

Resumen
Intercountry adoption requires adoptive parents to assume their parenthood as well as to acknowledge the cultural and ethnic origins of their child. Narratives are effective means to help individuals cope with non-normative transitions, including adoption, as they allow them to make sense of and legitimise their experiences. This qualitative study sought to extend knowledge about the value of using narrative methods with adoptive families to explore how the language they employ determines the ways in which they perceive situations and vice versa. It uses the word-driven textual analysis software T-LAB to identify key topics highlighted by parents and analyse them in relation to specific variables. Child characteristics, such as gender, age at adoption and birth country, and family variables, such as mother’s and father’s narratives and first or not-first parenting experience, were considered. From the 37 narratives sampled, those parents adopting from Asia and Eastern Europe, mothers and first-time parents faced the most challenges.

Resumen
Over the last 25 years (1990–2015), the number of adoptions of children (and young persons) in Australia declined from 1,142 to 292 (25.5 %). Of the 292 adoptions that took place in 2014–15, 83 (28%) were inter country adoptions, with the remaining 209 (72 %) adoptions of Australian children. Very few of the adoptions of Australian children were in New South Wales. In amendments in 2014 to the New South Wales Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 and the Adoptions Act 2000, a new emphasis on ‘open’ adoption was introduced. The focus of these amendments is on adoption of children who are in foster care where the New South Wales Children's Court has ruled that there is no realistic possibility of restoration of the child to parental care. This article is about the implementation of this new legislative emphasis on adoption. It does not examine the benefit or otherwise of adoption for children who cannot be safely restored to parental care as this issue has been extensively canvassed elsewhere. This article also highlights the US and English experience of adoption from care in order to place the New South Wales development in perspective. The article concludes with discussion of the issues adoption raises for the parents of a child who is being considered for adoption from care.

The current study uses structural equation modeling to examine adoptive parent communication as it relates to adoptee adjustment directly and indirectly through adoptive identity. Using retrospective accounts of 179 adult adoptees, findings indicate that both adoption- (adoption communication openness) and non-adoption-related (parental confirmation and affectionate communication) parental communication are related to adoptive identity work and positive affect about adoption and birth parents. Preoccupation mediates the relationship between parental communication and adoptee adjustment. The current study integrates research and theorizing from identity, adoption, and communication literatures to develop a communication-centered conceptual model of adoptive identity development to inform future adoption research and practice.

Personal likes, experience, and deep-rooted interests to satisfy emotional needs such as companionship, affection, empathy, and security are some of the underlying human motivations for acquiring a pet companion. In this study, we asked how long the owner took to decide whether to adopt a dog, who their dog was adopted from, their primary motivation for adoption, a ranking of characteristics considered during the adoption process, and how satisfied they were with the eventual outcome. Participants (n = 933) to this Center for Canine Behavior Studies survey completed an online questionnaire with responses representing 1537 dog/owner pairs. A majority of participants reported satisfaction with at least one of their adopted dogs. Odds of eventual satisfaction are higher for participants who spent less than a week considering an adoption or were seeking a pet to provide companionship and affection. Participants that prioritized personality as an adoption criteria were more likely to be satisfied with their adopted dogs. A mast majority (91%) of participants reported they would consider adopting another dog in the future. Selection criteria rankings that participants indicated they would employ for future adoptions tended to shift away from physical to behavior characteristics when compared to selection criteria priorities of prior adoptions.

Resumen
Abstract: Adoptive parents have turned to be passionate bloggers. Couples adopting internationally are using the internet intensely to share experiences and pieces of advice in the form of autobiographical accounts of their (troubled) adoption processes. These blogs not only connect a community facing multiple difficulties but, moreover, enact the family where the blood ties are missing. This study examines how the blogs of parents adopting girls in China perform parenthood by paralleling the adoption to the biological processes of pregnancy and giving birth. These blogs illuminate life writing's 'performativity' showing how they give the parents a sense of parenthood and offer the adoptees a sense of 'daughterness'. Moreover, they reveal how the performance of the adoptive family not only serves domestic purposes but also legitimates the practice of international adoption of children, which is regarded with suspicion by the international community. The outcome of this article shall not only contribute to the debate on how life writing impacts the writer's life and the society's approach towards the adoptees, but also to the broader field of studies on how cultural texts create social relations and assist processes of identity formation.

Resumen
Have you ever wondered about how to be culturally-sensitive in adoption approaches with Aboriginal people? Have you wanted ideas on how to more effectively engage First Nations adoptive-parents? Did you consider how leadership for social workers could assist in adoption outcomes for Aboriginal children? This article chronicles a study of the adoption experiences of the members of a First Nations community in Northwestern British Columbia, Canada. The results indicated that despite an overwhelmingly negative history with the adoptions and child protection system, many First Nations people are not only open to adoption but perceive it as an integral part of their traditional parenting practices. There is an overarching desire to have children who have been previously adopted outside the community returned to their hereditary lands. A series of recommendations for a more culturally-sensitive adoption practice were identified including: 1) improved information, 2) on-going community-government consultation, 3) cultural preservation, 4) social work training, and 5) government policy changes. The article will encourage curiosity regarding social work leadership and how this framework can be instrumental when working with Aboriginal culture. The implications of the study for the role of social workers as leaders in the creation of a new, culturally-sensitive adoption practice are discussed.

Resumen
The making of family through adoption is an emotionally and politically charged legal and social process. Both its historical and contemporary manifestations are characterised by ambivalence. Contemporary domestic adoption in the UK is at a point of profound reflection, as many of its ambivalent features are articulated at the levels of national policy making as well as within the micro political sphere of family life. Drawing on an online archive of adoption stories, in particular blogs written by adoptive parents, this article attends to the affective ways in which this ambivalence manifests within adoptive families. Queer theoretical resources are used to engage with themes of haunting, absence and loss, the strange temporalities of adoptive kinship and the complex politics of undoing at the heart of adoption.

Resumen
A crucial concern regarding the adoption of Indigenous children into “white” families is the separation of the child from her/his Indigenous community and the struggles for the children involved. This paper examines the struggles faced by one Anishinawbe child and his family, the Lees, to come to terms with this dynamic when they adopted him in the early 70s. After the adoption they came to understand themselves as a family that was no longer “white”, one that faced unique challenges as well as opportunities. The initial strategy of the parents was to maintain his contact with the Indigenous community and culture. However, it became apparent that they had to find a way to Indigenize themselves as well. This was accomplished with the assistance of the Indigenous community. This story, unfortunately, does not reflect the majority of transracial adoptions. It is a hopeful one but also raises questions for the role of Indigenous communities, adoptive parents and in particular for policy makers.

Resumen
This Note discusses the growing trend of adoptions by same-sex couples in the United States. Although most states do not outright prohibit adoptions by same-sex partners, it is often very difficult for both partners to adopt the same child. This Note will explore the legal and social ramifications of adoption limitations and the effects they may have on the adoptive children of same-sex couples. Additionally, this Note will explore how the situation can be remedied using the principle of representation reinforcement. Part one of this Note gives a brief overview of the development of the representation reinforcement theory. The representation reinforcement theory corrects the injustices of a democratic political system that occur when majority rule unfairly burdens the fundamental rights of a minority. Part two of this Note assesses and addresses the types of adoptions that occur in the United States and how they are applied unevenly and unfairly so as to burden potential adoptive children of same-sex partners. Part three of this Note assesses and reviews the variances in adoption statutes and how they affect the rights and statuses of adoptive children. Part four of this Note addresses the importance of recognizing adoptive children as a class that requires judicial protection because their interests are not properly represented in the political process.

Resumen
Research indicates that successful adoption of information technology to support business strategy can help organizations gain superior financial performance. The recent wave of enterprise-wide resource planning systems adoptions is a significant commitment of resources and may affect almost all business processes. This study examines the effect of adoption of enterprise systems on a firm's long-term financial performance. A large-scale data identification and collection method compared the financial data of 247 firms adopting enterprise wide systems with a matched control group of firms cross-sectionally and longitudinally before and after adoption. A number of implementation characteristics were also measured and their effects assessed. The results show that firms adopting enterprise systems exhibit higher differential performance only after two years of continued use. Furthermore, controlling for implementation characteristics as vendor choice, implementation goal, modules implemented, and implementation time period, helped explain the financial performance effects of enterprise resource planning system use. These results provide important insights that complement extant research findings and also raise future research issues.

Resumen
Part II of this Article will examine the doctrine of international comity, traditionally thought to give courts the power to recognize foreign decrees, as it applies to international adoption. First, the ability of courts to recognize foreign decrees of "status" generally will be discussed. Next, the focus will be on courts' authority to recognize the parent-child status created by foreign adoptions. This subpart will also review treaties and statutes that touch on the recognition of foreign adoption decrees. Part III will consider a traditional limitation on comity-that courts need not accept judgments that are "repugnant" or against the public policy of the state-as it applies to international adoption. The Article concludes that courts find "repugnant" those international adoptions that fail to mimic American notions of a nuclear family. Finally, Part IV will suggest a child-centered approach to replace the "repugnance" limitation on international comity.

Conservation agriculture is a concept which defines different farming systems. Its implementation depends on soil properties, climate and socio-economic considerations. Since two thousands, no-till technology; which is one facet of the conservation agriculture has begun to take place in the high plains of Sétif province-Algeria. Its adoption is facing several problems of socio-economic and technical issues. This work monitored the track of no-till adoption within a sample of 28 farmers during two years 2014 and 2016. During 2014 farmers were supported financially and technically through a subsidy program that aimed at the support of conservation agriculture via no-till technique. In 2016, the subsidy program has ended; hence, farmers have no longer incentives. Multivariate statistical analyses were performed to diagnose the evolution of no-till adoption and behavior’s farmers between the two periods. In 2016, results showed an increase of no-till area, even though, the drop of the number of adoptive farmers by 71%. The main reasons for adopting no-till according to the adoptive farmers were the minimization of farming operation costs and saving time. However, the major impediments facing no-till adoption; were the rise of weeding charges and the concern of weed infestation especially by bromus.sp, which is a vigorous prevalent weed, which locally developed some pesticide’s resistance. Also, the excessive use of pesticides may be considered as an environmental reason for no adopting no-till.

Resumen
AbstractWhile the act of adopting a new portfolio raises a number of interesting queries, little attention has been paid to portfolio adoption, what motivates and what conditions predicate it. The Canadian case provides an excellent laboratory to test some broadly held assumptions about portfolio adoption, particularly given the contrast of the ten provinces' unique political cultures with their shared jurisdictional roles. We illustrate our case using a dataset that contains information on 85 portfolio adoptions in the Canadian provinces since 1982. Findings suggest little by way of a clear set of partisan or institutional motivations for portfolio adoption, although there is some evidence that governments are more likely to adopt portfolios in the first 100 days of governing and they are more likely to do so when elected with larger caucuses, possibly because of the need to find larger roles for party loyalists.

Resumen
Challenges in adoptive families are well-documented; however, a lack of empirical research on the preadoption preparation of prospective adoptive parents for these common challenges exists. The purpose of this study was to seek a more thorough understanding of the education and preparation adoptive parents receive regarding potential child issues in international adoption. A qualitative research design was utilized to gain more in-depth knowledge of the international adoption experience that included preadoption education, transitioning into a new family structure, and services utilized. Ten participants, who are parents of internationally adopted children, were recruited for this qualitative study. Three research questions were developed regarding the challenges adoptive parents experience, how preadoption services could be improved, and participants’ perceptions of preadoption training. The following six primary themes were identified: purpose, attachment, challenges experienced, inconsistent preparation, support systems, and families utilizing mental health services. Recommendations for professional practice are presented, including more current and consistent training for prospective adoptive parents as well as recommendations for increasing the numbers of family counselors with adoption expertise and enhancing counselor training to address adoption issues.

The family is the first environment for human life. Properly functioning gives support and safety. It is a place for human development and for developing relations between loved ones. Although the adoptive family is not the first, biological form, it can successfully fulfil the functions assigned to the family, give support, warmth and love. This article is an attempt to describe adoption in modern Poland. The authors start with a description of adoption and its types. Then they present the way to become an adoptive family, taking into account the legal aspects of adoption. They also discuss the important aspect of openness in adoption, and therefore the situation of revealing the truth to the child and its closest environment. The article ends with a description of forms of support for adoptive families.

Resumen
Adopting a child is a truly emotionally difficult decision for any human being. To be a true parent, it is not necessary to be a biological parent. True parents are not those who give birth, but those who devote the best years of their lives to raising a wonderful child. Adoption is a noble act for adopted children, adoptive parents, his extended family and community. Its impact is generational, with a long-term benefit, as it will affect future generations of the family. For a number of children, adoption is the only way to have a family, and for a number of people the only opportunity to be realized as parents. There are a number of advantages to adopting a child, but in our society, it is still a concept that is misunderstood. Even today, this topic is not often discussed; it is avoided and almost never mentioned in education. Therefore, we must take the initiative and continue to learn how adoption is valuable and important to everyone.

We examine the behavior of stock prices at the time of post-1974–75 LIFO adoption announcements. We exploit recent theoretical and empirical developments in the LIFO adoption literature in an attempt to resolve some of the mixed findings in Hand (1993). We study LIFO adoptions announced prior to as well as at the time of annual earnings announcements. Previous research has mostly centered on 1974–75 adoptions made at the time of annual earnings announcements. Our study of LIFO adoptions announced prior to annual earnings announcement dates enables us to provide evidence on whether the early announcement of a LIFO adoption is used by firms to signal positive information about earnings growth. Collectively, our results suggest that in explaining the market response to LIFO adoption announcements, extant models of the LIFO adoption decision do not fully capture the richness of differing inflationary environments or of alternative disclosure times.
