Resumen
The number of transracial adoptions in the United States, particularly international adoptions, is increasing annually. Counseling psychology as a profession, however, is a relatively silent voice in the research on and practice of transracial adoption. This article presents an overview of the history and research on transracial adoption to inform counseling psychologists of the set of racial and ethnic challenges and opportunities that transracial adoptive families face in everyday living. Particular attention is given to emergent theory and research on the cultural socialization process within these families.

Resumen
While research has explored birth parent grief and loss, it has not been thorough in exploring how the experience of having an open adoption affects birth parents’ grief and loss experience and resolution. Previous research has highlighted positive effects of open adoptions to date, but is quite limited in regards to the birth parents’ adjustment in current day, open adoptions. This descriptive, qualitative study explores birth parents’ experiences in current day, open adoptions and seeks to understand their experience of grief and loss and their movement towards grief resolution in the context of an open adoption. Findings of this study confirm that the experience of adoption placement involves grief and loss and that openness in adoption helps to mitigate this painful experience. Most notably, birth parents found meaning, comfort, and peace in knowing of their child’s well-being and by having ongoing involvement in the life of the child and adoptive family. This opens new avenues in thinking about adoption and the meanings participants make of it.

Resumen
This Comment will propose eliminating the adoptive parent's weight as a determinative factor in adoption proceedings, evaluating instead the parenting skills of the potential parents, as well as their ability to emotionally, physically, and financially care for the adopted child. Part II of this Comment will discuss the history of adoption law in the United States and show how this area of law arose out of the need to find loving homes for the overwhelming number of orphaned children in America. Part II will also describe the current adoption process to demonstrate how adoption agencies and the court system use discriminatory screening factors to give preference to "ideal" parents. Part III will provide an introduction to obesity and discuss how size stereotypes in American society negatively affect the obese person in numerous aspects of life from childhood through adulthood. Part III will also discuss the current federal and state laws already enacted to combat size discrimination in the workplace and suggest that similar laws be put in place in adoption proceedings as well. Part IV will propose that disallowing a person of size to adopt is weight discrimination and is likely unconstitutional as a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. Part V will discuss how an obese person may have a more difficult time in adopting a child due to the courts' ability to discretionarily deny an adoption based on the adoptive parent's weight. It will also examine similar practices of weight discrimination in international adoptions and argue that if the United States adopts the policy of denying adoption based on the prospective parent's weight, the obese person may not be able to adopt a child of any race, either foreign or domestic. Part V will then suggest the fallacy in the courts' concerns with granting an adoption to a person of size and illustrate how allowing an obese person to adopt will still meet the courts' objective of doing what is in the best interest of the child. Finally, Part VI will argue that the best course of action is to rescind the discriminatory policy of denying adoption based solely on the parent's weight, and allow adoptions to be based on the individual's parenting skills as well as his or her ability to financially and emotionally support the child.

Adoption on the initial basis is the adoption of a child that results in the adoption of anadopted child from his own father's relationship and is included in the relationship of his adoptivefather. In practice adoption is usually carried out by people who in their marriages do not produceoffspring. By adopting the adopted child has a relationship with the adoptive father as with his ownfather. Resumen
Adoption is a legal action to transfer custody of a child from a parent, legal guardian, or another person responsible for the care, education, and care of the child to the care of the adoptive parent. The adoption of children is generally carried out by married couples who cannot have children. Apart from a reproduction factor, there are a lot of other things encouraging adopting a child, one of them is compassion. This study aimed to examine the requirements for adoption based on PP. 54 of 2007 and the legal consequences of adopting children by adoptive parents of different beliefs from the prospective adopted children. This research is a normative legal research. Based on the results and discussion of this study, it was found that requirements for adoption based on PP. 54 of 2007 has been clearly regulated, and the detailed procedures and requirements for adoption have been regulated in Law No. 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection with implementing regulations in the form of Government Regulation No. 54 of 2007 concerning the Implementation of Adoption and clear details in the Minister of Social Affairs Regulation No. 110 of 2009 concerning Requirements for Adoption of Children. In addition, adoption by prospective parents with different beliefs can be carried out by having a statement letter from the biological parents of the prospective adopted child stating that the child follows the beliefs of the adoptive parents. Whereas for homeless children a statement letter from the biological parents is made by the foundation or institution that accommodates the child.

Resumen
The aim of our study was to examine the associations between heterosexual and sexual minority adoptive parents’ adoption-related help-seeking and their service satisfaction with pediatricians and mental health providers. We examined associations with (a) satisfaction with pediatricians and (b) understanding of adoption by a mental health provider among adoptive parents who sought advice for adoption-related issues using data drawn from the Modern Adoptive Families study ( N = 1,419). Logistic regressions were used to examine associations with service-seeking and satisfaction with professionals’ adoption advice. About half of the sample adopted a child with either special needs at placement (55%) and/or preplacement adversity (74%), which were significantly associated with seeking adoption-related advice. Consulting pediatricians about adoption was common (78%), and 83% of those parents reported being satisfied with adoption-related advice provided by their pediatrician. About half (51%) of the parents sought mental health services, but only 41% of those parents reported having access to an adoption-competent mental health provider and 50% of those parents felt their mental health provider understood adoption. Parent sexual orientation, higher income, older child age, and having a child with special needs were positively associated with satisfaction with adoption-related advice provided by the pediatrician and having a mental health provider who understood adoption. Adopting a child with special needs at placement and an older child were positive associations of seeking adoption-related help, while parent demographics, including higher household income, were positively associated with satisfaction. Results suggest an inclusive family-centered approach to care is important.

Resumen
This study examined correlates and predictors of parenting stress among internationally adopting (IA) mothers with the goal of expanding the knowledge base on the experiences of adoptive parents. One hundred and forty-three IA mothers completed pre-adoption (Time 0) and six months post-adoption (Time 1) surveys with questions regarding child-, parent-, and family-related characteristics. Mother reports of higher depression symptoms, higher expectations of child developmental and behavioral/emotional problems, and a greater number of children in the family at pre-adoption were significantly related to higher parenting stress six months post-adoption. In contrast, mother reports of higher expectations for child acceptance and higher perceived social support at pre-adoption were significantly related to lower parenting stress six months post-adoption. Higher maternal depression symptoms, higher expectations of child behavior/emotional problems, and a greater number of children in the family at pre-adoption together accounted for 22% of the variance in parenting stress six months post-adoption. Concurrent higher maternal depression symptoms and higher reports of child behavioral/emotional problems predicted higher parenting stress six months post-adoption over and above pre-adoption predictors, and accounted for an additional 33% of the variance. Results and directions for future research are discussed from a transactional perspective, with particular emphasis on the importance of pre-adoptive information for adoption research and practice.

Resumen
Abstract Post-adoption services provide guidance to adoptive families concerning common and specific circumstances. Despite adoption is a lifelong experience, most of the post-adoption resources are oriented towards children, adolescents and their adoptive parents. However, it is also necessary to focus on the demands and interventions with adult adoptees. The aim of this article is to review adult adoptees’ demands for post-adoption resources, applicants’ characteristics and resources offered to them. A systematic search was conducted in several databases, finding forty studies that fulfilled the selection criteria (about adults, domestic/international adoptions and published between 2005 and 2018). The included studies showed mainly three needs: contact with birth family, ethnic identity and birth culture, and psychological support. Additionally, adoptees who demand post-adoption resources are a heterogeneous group. This review collects structured programmes focused on different topics: search for origins, attachment development and professionals’ training in adoption. In addition, we also found some specific post-adoption services and other tools, such as support groups or cultural events. Finally, adoptees also have access to other resources that are not specifically for them, such as mental health services. The scarce existence of evidence-based interventions is an important weakness in this work. Recommendations for future research and practice are included.

Resumen
Children who age out of foster care face adjustments and mental health issues at higher rates than their peers, but those who are adopted have the opportunity to heal from previous trauma and experience better outcomes. To create healthy family systems for adopted children, adoptive parents need support and guidance as they personally adjust and help their children adjust to a new family system. Previous research has focused on child identifiers rather than on the broader family system in efforts to understand adoption success and failure. In this transcendental phenomenological study, adoptive parents provided their lived experiences of support during the adoption process. The results were analyzed using Giorgi, Giorgi, and Morley's descriptive phenomenological psychological method and the results were framed using an adapted version of Bronfenbrenner's ecological model. The results offered experiences of support at all 4 levels of the ecological model and provided a framework to use for future research to understand the influences of the sources of support and a guideline for agencies and counselors to use when serving adoptive families. The results can aid in the proactive development of training and support services for adoptive families and provide information for professionals by offering insight into the nontraditional structure of adoptive families. This information may also be used to inform counseling programs accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs that offer the marriage, couples, and families specialization.

Resumen
Adoption is a common occurrence within the field of social work, yet adoptees and their adoptive parents grapple with a multitude of challenges unique to this population. The needs of these children and families are continually scrutinized by social service professionals prior to adoption, but less is known of the needs and services available to this population after adoption is finalized. This study addressed the question: Does adoptive families’ use of post-adoptive resources increase positive adoption outcomes? Ten adoptive parents participated in semi-structured interviews as part of this study. Most participants felt they had access to adequate services, and struggled with issues common to all types of parenthood, adoptive or biological. Two issues which parents identified as needs, and which provide direction for social work practice, were: normalizing their families’ experiences; and navigating conversations regarding adoption and birth families with their children.

Resumen
Adoption is a very honorable cause that families partake in with hopes of offering children an opportunity who otherwise would have little or nothing at all. Though a noble fight, many children are still left behind in adoption centers with families out there wanting them, yet they are not matching up? I wanted to undercover why that was. My paper is a Qualitative Research project on the adoption process conducted through four personal interviews from successfully adopting families. Through my interview schedule the goal of my research was to look for patterns and trends in the adoption process to better understand how it works. Along with my findings, my overall purpose was through learning of how it really works, to then possibly correct flawed mechanisms in our adoption systems to produce better outcomes for the children, as well as all of society.

Resumen
An increasing number of looked-after children are being placed for adoption in accordance with the government drive to increase permanency for children in local authority care. Unfortunately it is estimated that approximately one fifth of all adoptive placements end in disruption. Previous studies attempting to identify factors associated with disruption have tended to focus on demographic details and assessment data to predict increased risk. Few attempts have been made to explore the phenomenon in more depth by considering the views and accounts of the individuals involved. This study explores the experience of adoption disruption from the perspective of the adoptive mothers. It considers their understanding of the main contributing factors and their views on how services could be improved.
