Fischer, Nicole. "Représentations de l'Islam dans la littérature contemporaine - Le nouveau "genre" de la dystopie islamique". Electronic Thesis or Diss., Paris 3, 2023. http://www.theses.fr/2023PA030076.
Texto completoThis thesis focuses on a comparative analysis of the literary form of Islamic dystopia – dystopian narratives that address the crisis of Islam in the real world and project it into a futuristic scenario, under the rule of an Islamist regime. These narratives exploit patterns of Islamic perception that are discursively perpetuated in the real world, imbuing them with a new explosive political force. This work examines the aesthetic, ideological, and socio-communicative aspects of Islamic dystopia that have not yet been systematically reviewed. We pay particular attention to how political concepts of identity, community, and future are treated within Islamic dystopias, especially in the context of the debate on the ‘muslim question’ often framed as a clash between Islam and the West. In that, the thesis identifies two main currents within contemporary literature's Islamic dystopias. On the one hand, works like 2084 : La Fin du Monde (2015) by Boualem Sansal and Soumission (2015) by Michel Houellebecq can be seen as compensatory literature. These works address the challenges posed by the growing presence of the Muslim Other in a world marked by migration and multiculturalism. They establish new boundaries based on the superiority of the West, which are aesthetically presented in the form of cultural triumphalism. On the other hand, works such as 2028 (2016 [2006]) by Thérèse Fournier and Le dernier Été de la Raison (1999) by Tahar Djaout take a fundamentally different approach to established discourses on Islam. These works weaken the political categories mobilized in aforementioned discourses and undermine their ideological core. Instead of promoting identification with the West, they encourage reflection, laden with compassion, upon alternative relationships between the individual, community, and future. They argue that the West itself is dystopian and prompt a re-evaluation of its relationship with Islam and Muslims, particularly by reevaluating a traumatic and shared past.Overall, this thesis contributes to the systematic understanding and analysis of Islamic dystopia as a literary form. It highlights the complexity of the political, cultural, and ideological aspects present in these narratives, showcasing how Islamic dystopia offers diverse perspectives on extraliterary reality and the role of literature in this discourse
Wayall, Seydou. "Le discours de Sayyid Quṭb, littérature et civilisation". Thesis, Sorbonne Paris Cité, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017USPCA071.
Texto completoStudies relating to the production of Sayyid Quṭb are generally limited to his religious and political writings, which mirror his extremist views of Islam, and they thus obscure his literary production. Our research aims to study the works of Quṭb as a whole. It focuses on his discourse in various areas, be they religious, social, political or literary, as well as it takes into account the evolution in his views, in order to better highlight his changes of positions and his contradictions. It begins, in its first part, with the historical, socio-political and cultural context, within which Qutb’s work took place, before analyzing his religious, social and political views. In its second part, it addresses, at first, Qutb's literature in order to better grasp his literary vision. Then, basing its analysis on a narratological and semiological approach, this research goes on to analyze the novels of Quṭb, which are neglected by researchers, thus bringing into light the predominance of its “prophetic”, moral and didactic dimension. In its last part, we compare Qutb’s “Islamic” literature and his novels with his poetic production which is dominated by a romantic vision, so as to clearly highlight its internal contradictions

Texto completoThis thesis proposes to study the mythological figures in the sacred texts produced by the Yârsân Kurds and the dialogue that exists between the textual production of this religious group and the Iranian religious culture before and after Islam. The history of the Yârsâns dates back to the 11th century. However the most important period for Yarsâns starts in the 14th century, called also the ‘period of Truth’ in their own terms, when the literary sacred texts of the group began to be produced, collected and organized. Yârsân Kurds as a religious esoteric community have been a great source of interest for Western scholarship in recent decades. European scholars have mainly focused on the inextricable ties that exist between the main characteristics of the Yârsân religious thoughts and the Iranian religious background both before and after Islam, particularly with Shiite doctrines. Scholars such as Minorsky, Gobineau, Ivanow and later Mokri and During have largely followed this path to understand the particularity of the Yârsâns as a minority religious group. In spite of the efforts made by these scholars, the lack of use of Yarsân sacred texts as sources rendered previous research incomplete, and even in some cases distorted the reality. [. . . ] By using a large number of unpublished textual records, written by Yârsân spiritual masters, the present thesis aims to understand the religious doctrine that is reflected in these documents, and the mythological figures and their places both in Yârsân religious thought and also in the larger context of Iranian religious culture. I have also attempted to identify all these figures, and to describe their functions, their symbolic and religious characteristics, in the religious system of the Yârsâns. I have also attempted to trace the origins of this religious system in Iranian mythology by following the changes and additions. I also tried to specify more clearly the link between this Kurdish religious community and religious thinking of pre- Islamic Iran, which will lead me to provide an answer to the question of the origin of this religious group which has long been a mystery for the scholars of the subject
Labban, Rima. "Les figures mythiques dans la culture arabo-islamique médiévale : l'exemple des "Mille et Une nuits"". Paris 4, 2003. http://www.theses.fr/2003PA040058.
Texto completoThe study of the mythical figures of king Salomon and the calife Haroun al-Rachid in the Arab-Islamic medieval culture, through The Thousand and One Nights, amounts, firstly, to questioning the making and animation of the imaginary representations in a society governed by religious interdictions to express its deepest desires. It consists, secondly, on examining the mechanisms and the mode of productions of the fancy, its instruments, and, the moments and places of its irruption. The study of these two figures is then situated at the center of the medieval fancy and at the same time at the intersection of the historical, political and social domains. To understand how a historical personality transforms into a politico-heroic myth, in other words, to answer the question of how figures become mythical, one should, at the same time, call upon the historical method and the literary analysis, from a narrative and semiotic point of view. The answers to these interrogations should lead to a definition of the mythical figure in the medieval Arab-Islamic culture and to a definition of the status of the tale in this culture
Agoun, Perpère Fatma. "Les Noirs dans les textes maghrébins". Paris 4, 2009. http://www.theses.fr/2009PA040029.
Texto completoThe North African (Maghrebin) society symbolizes the image of the Black man as an absolute alterity ; a highly pejorative alterity. In a general sense and regardless of the subject (literature, linguistics, philosophy, sociology or history), this negative image imbues the texts that concern Blacks. Interdisciplinary analyses of these texts allow one to discover the discursive and literary procedures that facilitate the diffusion of this degraded ideological representation. Forged and promoted by past and present social discourse, the representation of Black alterity is rooted in the underpinnings of cultural transmission: from the classical period on, erudite texts justifying the legitimizing of slavery or denigrating the Black population; dictionaries presenting words from the Arabic language which conserve traces of the pejorative image of Blacks; texts from folk-lore that illustrate clichés and stereotypes of Blacks; and finally, the French texts which scarcely offer much of a difference in cultural imagery because they function by integrating these prejudicial social representations. All of these reflect a collective imagination concerning the "Other"

Texto completoThe Tijaniyya order was founded by Ahmad Al-Tijani around 1781 in the algerian south. Ever since then, this order has spread in all directions amongst the muslim world. However, the most dramatic propagation of the Tijaniyya was felt in western africa during the second half of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century, thanks, notably, to the military action of Al-Hajj 'Umar and the pacific gesture of Al-Hajj Malik Sy. Parallely to this spread, a few members of this order produced a type of literature, hence called Tijaniyya literature, which also developed in that region. And it is precisely the aim of this thesis to deal chiefly with the tijaniyya literature. However, because it proved impossible to deal with the whole of this literature, we chose four authors who seemed to be the most representative of this literature : Al-Hajj 'Umar, Yirkoy Talfi, 'Ubayda Ben Anbuja et Al-Hajj Malik Sy. The writings of those authors cover a century (1820-1920) and are representative of the whole of western Africa, from present day Mauritania to actuel Guinea. The study, hence, the analysis of their works enable one to follow the Tijaniyya order within its african realm, and more especially its evolution and the fluctuation of themes within this literature. This should show how the tijanis authors presented and explained their order to their readers, which arguments were used in order to convince people to became affiliated to the tijaniyya, and finally which sources did they base themselves on and which religious and juridical authorities did they refer themselves to, in order to strengthen and articulate their arguments. This is precisely what this thesis attempts to show

Texto completoThe zodiac has been known since ancient times but it was the Greek astronomers of the Hellenistic period who determined forms after the mythological figures and animals. The zodiac iconography inherited by the 8th and 9th century arabic-persian astronomers was largely inspired by ancient traditions. They subsequently updated it. Indeed, the iconography of the zodiac constellations had its codifier: the astronomer Abd al-rahman al-suff, then in the service of the buyid prince Adud al-dawla, who wrote “the book of the fixed stars”. The purpose of this iconography was mainly didactic, allowing constellations in the sky to be identified, hence a number of features characterizing the figures in all the copies made until the 19th century. A second type of zodiac appeared in the manuscripts starting in the 13th century: the astrological zodiac, which had a radically different purpose. The astrological zodiac was then used by astrologers to elaborate horoscopes but was often found in late 12th century east Anatolia or Persian metallic objects. Like the manuscripts as of the 14th century, these objects offer two types of iconography: - the first shows the signs conjugated with the planets in their various forms of associations, the most frequent being the planet associated to its house sign. - the second, frequently seen in miniatures starting in the 14th century, offers a new zodiac, purged so to speak, in which only some of the signs are perfectly associated to their planet: these are mixed series. We have underlined the major role of a focal point from which, we believe, a good part of the arabic-persian astrological zodiac may have originated: the city of Harran, in east turkey, whose inhabitants worshiped stars until the 9th century. The practice of the cult survived until the city was destroyed by the Mongols in the 13th century. It was at this time that this so distinctive iconography of the planets and the zodiac started appearing and spreading. The zodiac is not restricted to the two areas of astronomy and astrology. It also extends to other forms, among which the pictorial and mystical conception of heavens symbolized by the bearers of the divine throne. It was also used to make talismans, just like the ancient Arabic moon zodiac…

Texto completoThis thesis spells out specifically a developed tradition of polychrome in the art and the society Muslim Medieval, and tries to improve such concepts extensively. It should be mentioned that the recent improvements made in Islamic sensitivities for color over the recent centuries that separate us from the older period of time (the eighth to fifteenth century) that radiates the Islamic art is beyond this research. As a matter of fact in this study, our goal is to present the concept of color during the eighth to fifteenth century, explaining the meaning and the use of color during that time which correspond its true concept. Since the achievement of the harmony of colors depends on physical processes and appropriate techniques, we will try to demonstrate the practical application and objective of Islamic art and color at those centuries based on visual evidences that were obtained during our research, thus painting is considered as the raw material of our study. These centuries can present all the aesthetic elements of interest especially in painting (miniatures) because among the various arts, painting is the area where the colorist expressed with more freedom. From Baghdad to Tabriz, from Tabriz to Herat and from Herat to Shiraz and Isfahan, the Islamic miniature has produced the most beautiful pages of the history. In addition, color as an element in Islamic culture including poetry, mysticism, regulations and the religious holy book is studied to fully characterize the role of color in other Abrahamic religions
