Resumen
Abstract Terahertz (THz) interface physics as a new interdiscipline between the THz technique and condensed matter physics has undergone rapid development in recent years. In particular, the development of advanced materials, such as graphene, transitional metal dichalcogenides, topological insulators, ferromagnetic metals, and metamaterials, has revolutionized the interface field and further promoted the development of THz functional devices based on interface physics. Moreover, playing at the interface of these advanced materials could unveil a wealth of fascinating physical effects such as charge transfer, proximity effect, inverse spin-Hall effect, and Rashba effect with THz technology by engineering the charge, spin, orbit, valley, and lattice degrees of freedom. In this review, we start with a discussion of the basic theory of THz interface physics, including interface formation with advanced materials, THz wave reflection and transmission at the interface, and band alignment and charge dynamics at the interface. Then we move to recent progress in advanced materials from THz wave propagation to THz wave generation at the interface. In THz wave propagation, we focus on THz wave impedance-matching, Goos–Hänchen and Imbert–Fedorov shifts in THz region, interfacial modulation and interfacial sensing based on THz waves. In THz wave generation, we summarize ongoing coherent THz wave generation from van der Waals interfaces, multiferroic interfaces, and magnetic interfaces. The fascinating THz interface physics of advanced materials is promising and promotes novel THz functional devices for manipulating propagation and generation of THz waves at interfaces.

Resumen
The article discusses a method for creating automatically generated adaptive user interfaces of knowledge base editors based on an ontological approach. The main goal that guided the authors is to improve the quality and convenience of creating and editing knowledge bases, taking into account the specifics of the subject area, the characteristics of an expert user and other parameters. The description of the concept of a new approach to generating adaptive interfaces is given. Additionally, a detailed description of all ontologies, knowledge bases and models used in the specified approach to generating interfaces, as key elements of the proposed idea. The presented ontology of knowledge about interface design introduces new abstract elements that define interface tasks without explicitly defining their visual and functional representation, while each abstract element of this ontology has several representation options - adaptations of abstract elements. The ontology of graphical elements of the user interface defines a specific visual and functional representation of abstract elements in the form of ready-made reusable WIMP elements, such as lists, buttons, menus, etc. The presented knowledge base on interface design describes the rules for its formation depending on the structure of the domain ontology, user characteristics, and usability requirements. The presented interface model describes the structure of the generated adaptive interface in accordance with the user's individual preferences and other additional information. All the ontologies and knowledge bases described in the article are currently implemented on the IACPaaS platform.

Resumen
Second harmonic generation (SHG) is forbidden from most bulk metals because metals are characterized by centrosymmetric symmetry. Adsorption or desorption of molecules at the metal interface can break the symmetry and lead to SHG responses. Yet, the response is relatively low, and minute changes occurring at the interface, especially at solid/liquid interfaces, like in battery electrodes are difficult to assess. Herein, we use a plasmonic structure milled in a gold electrode to increase the overall SHG signal from the interface and gain information about small changes occurring at the interface. Using a specific homebuilt cell, we monitor changes at the liquid/electrode interface. Specifically, traces of water in dimethoxyethane (DME) have been detected following changes in the SHG responses from the plasmonic structures. We propose that by plasmonic structures this technique can be used for assessing minute changes occurring at solid/liquid interfaces such as battery electrodes.

Resumen
Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have become the most widely used energy storage systems for portable electronic devices and electric vehicles. With the increasing requirements of high energy density, next-generation batteries, including Li-metal batteries, Na-metal batteries and solid-state batteries, have received huge attention in recent years. For most batteries, the interfacial issues between the electrolyte (both liquid and solid) and electrodes are critical factors affecting the performance of the batteries. Atomic and molecular layer deposition (ALD and MLD) are considered as ideal strategies for overcoming the interfacial issues for the batteries. In this talk, I will introduce our research about interface engineering and understanding for next-generation batteries. i) The interface is one of the key factors for the Li and Na deposition behaviors and battery performances. We developed ALD and MLD approaches to fabricate the artificial interface with significantly improved electrochemical performances and reduced dendrite formation for Li/Na metal anodes. ii) We further design different ALD/MLD thin films to stabilize the interfaces for solid-state Li batteries. iii) We have also developed ex-situ and in-situ synchrotron X-ray techniques for next-generation batteries.

Resumen
Purpose Many features constitute an adaptive system such as user model, interface specification, business functionalities and service implementation. Context awareness is an important facet of service oriented application creation dealing with the gathering, use and representation of context information. Generally, user interfaces and services communities work separately on the adaptation process and do not converge. The aim of this work is to manage the system’s functionalities and the user interface that delivers data to the relevant consumer early since the design phase until the code generation. Design/methodology/approach The authors discuss how a unified method based on a model-driven architecture for adaptive user interface and pervasive service creation eases the work of designers and developers, limits incompatibility issues and supports dynamic generation of systems adapted to different contexts of use. Findings The proposed approach is able to support a semi-automatic ubiquitous application generation with service, behavior, presentation and content adaptation. Originality/value In this paper, the authors tackle context-awareness at two levels: system functionalities and user interface generation. The authors also tackle adaptation at the specification and implementation levels.

Resumen
In this experiment we investigated the effect of different real-time expert system interfaces on operators' cognitive processes and performance. The results supported the principle that a real-time expert system's interface should focus operators' attention on where it is required most. However, following this principle resulted in unanticipated consequences. In particular, it led to inferior performance for less critical, yet important cases requiring operators' attention. For such cases operators performed better with an interface that let them select where they wanted to focus their attention. Having a rule generation capability improved performance with all interfaces but did so less than hypothesized. In all cases performance with different interfaces and a rule generation capability was explained by the effect of the interfaces on cognitive process measures.

Resumen
Computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) systems with a significant level of human-computer interaction are often inefficient. This is particularly problematical for those users who have to interact with multiple subsystem interfaces. These difficulties can be traced back to the fact that representation of the user in existing manufacturing models and systems is inadequate. An approach that increases user representation to improve CIM interface design is proposed, in which stereotype-based user and task models are used to specify a common user interface for each individual system user. An overview of the architecture is followed by discussion of an application domain (statistical process control) in which a demonstrator based on the architecture has been tested.

Resumen
The Web enters a new era where contents are to take the back seat and services will take the driver seat to form a service-oriented Web. This paper presents a service-oriented user interface design for the next generation Web. The design leverages the advances of semantic Web and service composition technologies to provide an intelligent and generic user interface to query, compose and execute Web services for a variety of user tasks. First, a simple cost model is developed for estimating the development and learning overheads of Web service interfaces for service-oriented applications as the motivation of this work. Then, the authors present the design of the service-oriented browser and discuss the enabling technologies. A prototype system is developed using existing technologies and standards as a proof of concept.

Resumen
Interoperability plays an important role in Industry 4.0. Interoperability in the engineering process allows the automation of the engineering phase, reducing the human effort involved and the associated engineering costs. It improves the quality of the engineering process and its overall efficiency. Nevertheless, the diversity of available standards, devices, and systems leads to great levels of heterogeneity and makes it difficult to achieve the aforementioned interoperability. As the lack of interoperability increases, a generic solution to the problem is increasingly demanded by the industry. This paper approaches the interoperability problem from a service interface perspective. A novel approach is presented to address service interface heterogeneity. The proposed solution is based on service interface translation, which is achieved via the generation of service interfaces. A new system, the consumer interface generator system, has been designed and implemented to generate interface instances to solve the interoperability mismatches between service consumers and providers at runtime. In this paper, the autonomous consumer interface generation process, the system architecture, and the generated interface instance are described. The proposed approach has been validated through practical experimentation, including the implementation of a system prototype and a testbed.

Resumen
With the rapid development of computer network technology in recent years, more and more demands have been placed on the functionality and attributes of the user interface. In the development of many computer projects, the variability and flexibility of user interface requirements have greatly increased the complexity of program development for researchers. In addition, the poor reusability of page access control writing has created a pressing need for a highly standardized and flexible way of developing software. Thus, the development and design of user interfaces for application software systems occupy an important position and have been a hot topic of research in the field of human-computer interaction. The traditional methods of describing user interaction, such as state transitions and data flow diagrams, are not based on global and intuitive concepts. Moreover, there is little support for the design of user interface interaction behavior, resulting in user interfaces being ignored at design time and left to implementers to grasp at coding time. It is therefore an issue that needs to be addressed in order to integrate traditional methods and intuitive descriptions from the user’s perspective into a new interface development model and methodology. This research creates a user interface framework based on interaction behavior from the user’s perspective. Furthermore, UML extension mechanisms are used to enable the user interface framework to better support UML-based modelling environments. In addition, the UML is structured and extended to include structural elements that support interface generation, and a structured use case model is proposed, which drives the analysis and design of the individual submodels. The extracted abstract interface elements and their mapping to concrete interface elements are documented in a way that explores the generation of different target languages under different platforms. This study incorporates user requirements and provides a scientific reference for the development and design of user interfaces.

Resumen
Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are invoked to simulate the diffusion process and microstructural evolution at the solid–liquid, cast-rolled Al–Cu interfaces. K-Means clustering algorithm is used to identify the formation and composition of two types of nanostructural features in the Al-rich and Cu-rich regions of the interface (i.e., the intermetallic Al2Cu near the Al-rich interface and the intermetallic Al4Cu9 near the Cu-rich interface). MD simulations are also used to assess the effects of annealing temperature on the evolution of the compositionally graded microstructural features at the Al–Cu interfaces and to characterize the mechanical strength of the Al–Cu interfaces. It is found that the failure of the Al–Cu interface takes place at the Al-rich side of the interface (Al2Cu–Al) which is mechanically weaker than the Cu-rich side of the interface (Cu–Al4Cu9), which is also verified by the nanoindentation studies of the interfaces. Centrosymmetry parameter analyses and dislocation analyses are used to understand the microstructural features that influence deformation behavior leading to the failure of the Al–Cu interfaces. Increasing the annealing temperature reduces the stacking fault density at the Al–Cu interface, suppresses the generation of nanovoids which are precursors for the initiation of fracture at the Al-rich interface, and increases the strength of the interface.

Resumen
This article details the vision, goals, and legacy of Interface: Providence, the 1974 Downtown Providence master plan that proposed to transform the city center into an autorestricted regional mass transit hub where public parks replaced surface parking lots and rigid functional zoning gave way to higher densities and mixed uses. Interface catalyzed a generation of Downtown advocates who valued historic preservation, walkable streets, and quality public spaces as first principles. And yet, the plan’s big-picture vision of a transit-oriented metropolis with Downtown as its center had relatively little impact on subsequent transportation policy, and, by this measure, Interface remains an untested proposition.

Resumen
Abstract Alumina ceramic materials with graded functional porosity were prepared by the freeze casting method and characterized. The effects of processing route parameters on the pore formation were studied. Pore characteristics were investigated concerning morphology and distribution in the ceramic matrix. The mercury intrusion method was used to evaluate the porosity. Mechanical properties, as well as the fracture mode, were investigated by the uniaxial compression test. Scanning electron microscopy was used to analyze and correlate the created interface between the layers with the mechanical response. The results suggested that the porosity obtained in all samples was similar, even with varying parameters (different suspension solidification configurations). When evaluating the mechanical behavior, these distinct parameters showed drastic differences in compressive strength and failure mode. This was due to the formation of interfaces between the layers of different porosities, according to the solidification configuration. The interfaces modified the fracture mode, changing from a longitudinal-directed to an interface-directed fracture. The pore microstructure and morphology indicated highly connected pore channels.

A detailed nonlinear three-dimensional (3-D) finite element analysis (FEA) was performed in Phase I on a NEMO (naval experimental manned observatory) type HBOI (Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution) spherical acrylic submersible in order to overcome the crack generation problem at its interfaces. An FEA has been carried out to develop a new design guideline, by reducing the higher stresses and relative displacements at the interfaces, which are believed to be two of the main reasons for crack generation at these areas. Variation of the stiffness between dissimilar materials at the interface, lower nylon gasket thickness, overdesigned aluminum hatch and bottom penetrator plug, attachment of the retainer ring with hatch ring, close placement of the rubber padding to the interface between the acrylic sphere, and the retainer ring are found to be the various causes for higher stresses within the acrylic sphere at the nylon gasket/acrylic interface. Based on the new design guidelines, in Phase II, a new spherical acrylic submersible was fabricated and tested. This design resulted in significant improvements by reducing the peak stresses and relative displacements at the gasket/acrylic interface areas. This improvement in design is expected to significantly extend the crack-free cyclic fatigue life of the acrylic submersible at 3000 ft (914 m) ocean depth.

Resumen
This research was performed to establish recasting effects of nickel-chromium dental alloys on the composition of their metal-ceramic interface in making fixed partial dentures. The metal-ceramic interface determines denture functional integrity and prevents damages on ceramics during mastication. Recycling of nickel-chromium alloys is often a practice, without detailed knowledge about possible effects on the composition of the metal-ceramic interface. Investigation of metal-ceramic samples is intended to show if base metal alloys for metal-ceramics are successfully recycled without any composition change in the metal-ceramic interface. The research was performed as an experimental study in which six metal-ceramic samples of nickel-chromium alloy ?Wiron 99? (Bego, Germany) were made. Alloy residues were recycled through twelve casting generations with the addition of 50 wt% of the new alloy on the occasion of every recasting. EDX analysis was performed by using the ?Inca X Sight? apparatus (Oxford Instruments, UK) and a SEM device JSM 6460 LV (JEOL, Japan). This appliance was used in conjunction with the PC software for quantification of chemical elements in order to determine the composition of metal-ceramic interfaces. Results of this research revealed significant differences between compositions of metal-ceramic interfaces in every examined recycle generation. Recasting had a negative effect on alloy components, which concentration is decreasing in the metal-ceramic junction zone. The concentration of cerium in the intermediate phase decreased the most, followed by concentrations of niobium, molybdenum, nickel and chromium. Results showed a permanent reduction of metal components up to the 12th generation of recycling. Cerium concentration (wt%) decreased from 28 to 16.26 %, nickel concentration from 3.31 to 1.82 % and chromium concentration from 2.95 to 2.03 %. Similarly, the molybdenum content decreased from 8.71to 4.68 wt%, while that of niobium from 9.82 to 3.97 wt%. Therefore, recasting of nickel-chromium alloys is not recommended because of changed composition of the metal-ceramic interface of these alloys.

Resumen
A technique for reverse engineering graphical user interfaces (GUIs) produced with Xtoolkit source code is presented. Two independent graphical representations are automatically generated to assist GUI programmers in the development, testing, maintenance, and reengineering of X-based GUI source code. This capability to generate both structural and behavioral views has the potential to provide major improvements in the comprehensibility of X source code. Whereas generating widget instance trees to describe the structure of an X interface is common, the automatic generation of dialogue state diagrams to describe the behavior of an X interface is unique to our technique. The intent of this paper is to provide insight into the functional details of our automated reverse engineering process for the benefit of other reverse engineering researchers and programming tool developers.

Resumen
Usage-centered design is becoming increasingly important in the rapidly growing web environment. In this paper, we propose a development process and algorithm to generate a user interface prototype automatically on the basis of a usage-centered design. For this purpose, the transition objects of the user interface are modeled from the requirement analysis, while abstract modeling rules and algorithms of business events are formed for the generation of the user interface. These processes allow unskilled designers to develop qualified user interface prototypes, improve the user's understanding of the business tasks and reduce the number of prototype iterations.

Resumen
In this paper, we present an intelligent support End-User Developers (EUDevs) in creating plot lines for Point and Click games on the web. We introduce a story generator and the associated user interface, which help the EUDev in defining the game plot starting from the images providing the game setting. In particular, we detail a pipeline for creating such game plots starting from 360 degrees images. We identify salient objects in equirectangular images, and we compose the output with other two neural networks for the generation: one generating captions for 2D images and one generating the plot text. The provided suggestions can be further developed by the EUDev, modifying the generated text and saving the result. The interface supports the control of different parameters of the story generator using a user-friendly vocabulary. The results of a user study show good effectiveness and usability of the proposed interface.

Resumen
Generating mobile apps represents a big challenge in several areas, such as considering audience needs, adapting their user interfaces to such needs, dealing with design constraints or using different development technologies. The present work seeks to examine how design patterns can help to support the generation of this kind of adaptive mobile application. In particular, design patterns related to user interfaces are reviewed, and an ontology-based framework is proposed to manage their pattern descriptions and associated rules. Such a framework enables a more versatile and powerful organization of mobile interface items, as well as their adaptation to context changes and user requirements in specific scenarios. An example of adaptive mobile application has been developed to show the suitability of the proposed framework, and the application usability has been evaluated in terms of satisfaction, learnability, and efficiency.

Resumen
To augment cement-bone bonding, hydroxyapatite (HA) granules were interposed at cement-bone interface (IBBC technique). HA granules were smeared on the bone surface just before cementing components. Porous HA granules of 300 to 500μm in diameter and 100 to 300μm in diameter were used from 1986 to 1988(first generation) and 1989 to 1991(second generation), respectively. 222 hips of 151 patients in the first generation and 252 hips of 170 patients in second generation could be followed. After 16 to 21 year follow up, radiolucent line (space), less than 1mm, was observed in 4 hips(1.8%) in the first generation and in 15 hips(6.2%) in the second generation(p<0.01). osteolysis was observed in 1 hip(0.5%) and 6 hips (1.6%), respectively. Loosening (separation) was observed only 2 cups (0.8%) in the second generation.
