Resumen
Outcomes of a case study based on the Autobiography of Intercultural Encounters (AIE) released by the Council of Europe are presented in this article. The paper is created as a supplement to help students reflect critically on unique intercultural interactions. The study claims that the document may be utilised in its original question-and-answer format to examine intercultural experiences critically and as a framework for students to create intercultural encounter narratives. As a result, this document may be used to write reflective narratives on students’ intercultural experiences, such as studying abroad. Two Japanese students on a short program in Malaysia were asked to create a story on their intercultural experiences for this research. The students then submitted their responses to the same experience’s questions in AIE. They created their narrative using AIE as a framework, and content analysis of the two AIE narratives indicated that the narrative based on AIE was more critical in its perspective of intercultural encounters. According to the findings, the student found creating a story focused on AIE to be helpful to both herself and the audience. Therefore, it can be concluded that adopting AIE as a framework for writing intercultural encounter narratives might be beneficial, particularly in describing intercultural communication scenarios. Students might enhance their awareness of intercultural conflict situations and develop their communication skills by reading such collected narratives. Resumen
The aim of this research was to examine how foreign students at IIUI adapt to intercultural communication in relation to three key factors: Context, Salience, and Common Ground. To explore the experiences and challenges faced by these students, the study employed Colleen Ward's Cultural Adjustment Process Model and the Socio-cognitive approach, specifically focusing on context, salience, and common background. Data was gathered through a questionnaire consisting of both open-ended and close-ended questions from 18 randomly selected students of IIUI, from various countries. The results suggest that the students rely heavily on their prior experiences and use a combination of these experiences and the emergent situation, salience, and common ground to adjust to intercultural communication.

This article analyses the intercultural performance of The Prayers of Mansata, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth to the West African context of Guinea-Bissau. After a critical exploration of contemporary intercultural theory, it charts the relationship between the Shakespearean text and this adaptation, before exploring particular questions raised by the circulation of the performance within different Portuguese-speaking contexts. It argues that such performances can represent a potent social and political intervention in contemporary configurations of power within a Portuguese-speaking community of nations by combining concerns with local specificity and wider concerns with a post-colonial present.

Non-local English-speaking EFL teachers are increasingly employed in the outer or expanding circle of English-speaking countries, but little is known about how these non-local EFL teachers construct their language teacher identity while they go through the intercultural adaptation process. Employing the narrative analysis, this study analysed the data of the in-depth interviews with three non-local English-speaking EFL teachers in one Chinese university and explored their teacher identity construction in the process of intercultural adaptation. Three major types of intercultural challenges were identified in their cross-cultural work in Chinese tertiary education. It was also found that the non-local EFL teachers strategically shift their teacher identities and instrumentalize their non-local identity to adapt to their intercultural teaching work and to empower themselves professionally in the language classes. This study contributes to the understanding of identity making in the intercultural adaptation process and provides implications for the adaptive policymaking and training for non-local teachers.

Cultural adaptability in the context of international students' intercultural communication has affected how communication works. Indonesian students, especially those who display their identity as Muslim women, have their challenges in adapting to both academic and social-cultural contexts. This study discusses the cultural adaptation of Indonesian Muslim women students to societies in Europe. All informants who are scholarship awardee students have obstacles in adapting, especially when communicating with the societies. This study aims to discover how Gudykunst’s Anxiety and Uncertainty Management theory interprets the experience phenomena around individuals in adapting to Societies in Europe through intercultural communication. The study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Five informants in this research have gone through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study show that the experiences are related to academic and social experiences adapting to the local community’s culture (cultural), adapting to individual personality (sociocultural), and adapting to interpersonal perceptions (psycho-cultural). Indonesian Muslim women students need to be familiar with the local community, open to accepting differences in society, and able to interpret the meaning of accepted in intercultural communication context.

Resumen
Globalization, the desire to access quality education and better opportunities abroad as well as the need to develop one’s capacities and many other factors have caused increased migration of international students and teachers into Chinese universities. China has recorded over a 67% increase in higher education enrolment between 2011 and 2017. This increased level of student migration in China has brought an unprecedented number of challenges especially in transitioning into the cultural settings in China. As a result, Chinese universities, in addition to their various obligations and roles in ensuring quality teaching and learning, have to engage in intercultural management to help foreigners’ transition seamlessly into the cultural landscape of China. This study examines intercultural adaptation of sojourners from an intercultural management perspective. Using a mixed method approach, specifically an explanatory mixed method design, a sample of 140 respondents was investigated regarding their cultural adaptation to a Chinese university. The positive and negative aspects of intercultural management as it relates to the university used in the case study were also explored. Findings from the study were discussed in depth and recommendations for a holistic intercultural management system were made.

Resumen
It is currently accepted that language and culture are inseparable since culture becomes an essential aspect of learning a foreign language. In the Indonesian context, this broad understanding of the crucial role of culture in English teaching has raised challenges in different contexts for EFL teachers. The recent study focuses on Indonesian Junior High School teachers’ views on integrating culture in ELT and practices of textbook adaptation to help students build intercultural competence. Therefore, to meet these aims, a questionnaire and an open-ended question were employed to collect the data from fifteen participants teaching English at public and private schools in Indonesia. The study results reveal that Indonesian EFL teachers have positive attitudes on integrating intercultural competence in ELT. Still, some of the difficulties confronted by their implementation of textbook adaptation have been highlighted in promoting intercultural competence. This study suggests that EFL teachers in Indonesia should be provided with teacher training relating to textbooks adaptation and teaching culture. The implementation of ICT in ELT classrooms is also recommended. Finally, the redesign of the curriculum with more integrated intercultural competency materials should be taken into account. HIGHLIGHTS: The EFL teachers’ practices deal with textbook adaptation are not well implemented, although they believe that cultural competence in their teaching activities is crucial. The English curriculum should give more room for teachers in serving the students based on their needs, preferences, and skills, especially for enhancing students’ mastery on the target language.

Resumen
This research explores the challenges encountered by international students at Zhejiang Normal University, employing a qualitative methodology to gain insights into their adaptation to Chinese universities within the larger framework of global education integration. Through comprehensive interviews, the study highlights crucial challenges such as variations in academic standards, teaching techniques, evaluation methods, and linguistic hurdles. Cultural differences, particularly regarding social interactions and authority deference further obstruct students’ engagement and social assimilation. Environmental factors, such as subtropical weather and the local living environment, also add to the adaptation challenges. Despite these difficulties, international students demonstrate perseverance and adaptability, actively working to enhance their language proficiency and build supportive networks. The research suggests that educational institutions should facilitate tailored academic assistance services, improve cultural sensitivity training for both staff and students, improve accommodation options, and create programs to orient students to the local environment. By promoting intercultural engagement and fostering a more inclusive atmosphere, educational establishments can better assist international students, enriching their academic journeys and cross-cultural encounters while contributing to the ongoing discussion on global education and intercultural comprehension.

Resumen
The rapid development of new media has been the main force accelerating the trend of globalization in human society in recent decades. New media has brought human interaction and society to a highly interconnected and complex level, but at the same time challenges the very existence of intercultural communication in its traditional sense. It is under this circumstance that we see more and more scholars becoming involved in the investigation of the relationship between new media and intercultural communication. Emerging topical areas in this line of research mainly include three categories: (1) the impact of national/ethnic culture on the development of new media, (2) the impact of new media on cultural/social identity, and (3) the impact of new media (especially social media) on different aspects of intercultural communication (e.g., intercultural relationships, intercultural adaptation, and intercultural conflict). This paper discusses this trend of research on the relationship between new media and intercultural communication.

Abstract: This article addresses the power imbalance between English language learners (ELL) and native English speakers (NES) in culturally and linguistically diverse K-12 classrooms. Current ELL positioning models explored in empirical research studies are positioned in this article in correlation with the stages in Bennett’s theory of the Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity. The result indicates that we need an integrative model that equalizes the power relations between ELLs and NES to guide all learners and teachers towards cultural integration. Drawing on positioning theory and the concept of intercultural citizenship, this article proposes an integrative approach of positioning all students and teachers as intercultural citizens as a discursive identity negotiation means to engender an equitable two-way cultural adaption that not only challenges the raciolinguistic ideologies but also builds intercultural citizenship among all learners. A step-by-step school-level practical guide is suggested to implement this integrative approach.

The article focuses on the multi-ethnic environment of the University, which reflects both multi-vector global and local processes and specificity of educational practices affecting the relationships in the University eco-environment. The authors consider the processes of adaptation of international exchange students in Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TUSUR) and the importance of intercultural interaction within these processes. Special attention is given to the harmonization of the University interethnic environment, the formation of friendly barrier-free interaction, which is possible because of the systemic work of educational process participants. The object of the research is the adaptation and intercultural communication in the student environment, with the focus on the specificity of adaptation of international exchange students. The authors draw on the theory of intercultural communication and employ methods of sociological survey and mathematical statistics. The survey, conducted in the fall of 2019 among 120 first-and second-year students from 36 countries with the use of a spontaneous sample type. The respondents were offered a questionnaire aimed at identifying the most urgent problems of adaptation in TUSUR. The survey resulted in a review of the challenges related to the adaptation of foreign students to new conditions in the host community. The results of the research bring to light new sociocultural approaches to the work with foreign students and can be used to optimize the interethnic interaction activities of educational system agents.

This paper reports findings of a study that investigated intercultural communication experiences of immigrant traders in a Kenyan informal market. The study employed a qualitative approach, hence a case study of one large urban informal market in Nairobi. In-depth interviews were conducted with twenty two participants purposive sampled and the findings were analysed thematically. Findings of the study revealed that cultural challenges, characterized by divergent language and communication styles, led to a breakdown in intercultural communication, and social communication exclusion of the immigrant traders by their hosts. Therefore, local authorities need to initiate cross-cultural adaptation programmes within the informal markets in order to enhance the efficacy of the immigrant traders in intercultural communication.

Resumen
Abstract This article reports on a longitudinal case study and gives first-hand accounts of the lived experiences of five Erasmus+ students from Turkey during their sojourn at a university in Poland and its impact on the students’ individual identities. The research aimed to investigate students’ learning experience at the host institution and intercultural adaptation, focusing on the transformative outcomes that the sojourn brought about in them. The framework used as a theoretical basis for the study was Kim’s integrative theory of communication and cross-cultural adaptation. The theory claims that cultural adjustment is a function of an individual’s development of social and personal communication competence in their respective environments. As a result of frequent meaningful interactions with cultural others, through meeting and overcoming multiple intercultural challenges, people are likely to develop intercultural personhood, going through three consecutive stages, i.e., stress-adaptation-growth (Kim 2008). The study outcomes show sojourning abroad as a rather positively valenced experience, contributing to participants’ gaining knowledge about diverse cultures, the skills to cope with diversity and an increased willingness to interact with people from different ethnic backgrounds. The data revealed that the participants underwent, to a moderate degree, a cultural identity shift toward becoming more mindful, open-minded, self-other oriented, and inclusive toward diversity.

Resumen
Intercultural adaptation is a process of adjustment that involves communication between individuals and the host environment. This process occurs as long as there is "interaction" with the host environment. In Malaysia, the Rohingyas are the largest refugee population as of May 2023. This population migrated forcibly and experienced intercultural adaptation upon their arrival in Malaysia. Malaysia is not a party to the 1951 Refugee Convention or its 1967 Protocol. Moreover, Malaysia does not have a specific legal or administrative framework to regulate the status and rights of refugees in this country. This makes it difficult for them to get job opportunities and access to education. This study aims to delve into the intercultural adaptation experiences of Rohingya refugees in accessing employment and education in Malaysia; and applying Ager and Strang’s (2008) conceptual framework of integration. A total of 15 male Rohingya refugees residing in Klang Valley were interviewed. Data analysis found that the experience of Rohingya refugees in Malaysia in accessing employment and education is indeed challenging. Although they are having difficulties securing a job, they are able to support themselves, their families, and send money to family members abroad. In addition, employment also acts as a platform for them to learn Bahasa Melayu through communication at the workplace. Despite facing challenges in accessing education, they are still hoping their children will receive proper education. This study also found that employment and education are crucial to support intercultural communication especially related to acculturation and integration of Rohingya refugees in Malaysia. Keywords: Rohingya refugees, employment, education, acculturation, integration.

Resumen
This research examines the transformation of the Mangalehen Tuor tradition in Mandailing ethnic wedding ceremonies after migration to Medan City. This tradition has undergone significant adaptation in the context of rapid urbanization and intercultural interactions in urban environments. Changes in the implementation of traditions, such as adjustments to the time and place of implementation, as well as changes in participation and delivery of advice, are the main focus of this research. Factors influencing these changes, such as urbanization, intercultural interactions, the influence of the younger generation, economics, and technology, are analyzed to understand the dynamics of cultural adaptation in a broader context. Despite undergoing transformation, efforts to preserve Mandailing cultural values ??remain a priority, reflected in cultural education efforts, community activities and technology integration. This research provides insight into how ethnic communities manage and maintain their cultural identity amidst the ever-growing challenges of globalization and modernization.

The practice of intercultural teaching seems to be commonly applied but not in aviation English class. This might be difficult in conceptualizing intercultural competence instructional model (ICCIM) due to the mandatory adaptation to aviation English materials. This autobiographical study aimed to describe how the researcher conducted intercultural competence (ICC) teaching in aviation English class along with the depiction of students’ reflective constructs. This study was undertaken in Politeknik Penerbangan Surabaya as one of state aviation schools under agency of human resource development on transportation. The researcher found that the ICCIM could be implemented in aviation English class with some challenges. Another finding showed that the students were interested in learning ICC materials. This autobiographical study implies that there needs further research in examining ICCIM in aviation English class with wider cultural exposures and practices to give aviation students wider cultural perspectives before they work in the field of aviation.

Resumen
Currently, it is recognized that language and culture go hand in hand, which means that when we teach a language, we also teach the culture of that language or other languages that appear in the textbooks being used. This wide recognition of the vital role of culture in the second language teaching has presented challenges for EFL teachers in various contexts. This article reports a qualitative study on three Cambodian teachers of English at one school in Phnom Penh. The study aims to investigate EFL teachers’ views and practices of textbook adaptation, as well as how they adapt textbooks to help students develop intercultural awareness in the ELT. To achieve these objectives, the qualitative data obtained from individual interviews, classroom observations, and teaching materials were engaged to shed light on the backdrop of the textbook adaptation and cultural integration in the ELT classroom. The findings in this study reveal an inconsistency between teachers’ views and practices about the textbook adaptation and the teachers’ limited capacity of interculturality-stimulated scholarship that is inherently tied to the development of cultural activities in the ELT classroom. This study suggests teacher training on the textbook adaptation and teaching culture should be provided to the teachers in the context and beyond.

Resumen
Educational Intercultural Bilingualism (EIB), this approach to language education in multi-ethnic integration countries has received attention from a wide range of experts and scholars. This is because the right to be educated in one's mother tongue and to speak a dialect based on indigenous people often does not coexist with the official language of cultural identity at the national level. Better inclusion and valuing the place of indigenous people in the national cultural identity makes language education a social movement for equity and adaptation progress. This paper will focus on the EIB in Mexico, through a multi-level analysis of the historical processes and challenges encountered in language education for indigenous populations decolonization. The richness of Mexico's linguistic diversity and changing social relations will be useful in helping to build on-board experience in language teaching around the world.

Resumen
This article aims to show the role of educational counselors both as promoters of cultural management and as mentors for attention to diversity. A qualitative methodology and ethnographic approach have been implemented. In-depth interviews with counsellors from schools in the provinces of Huelva and Cadiz (Spain) have been analyzed in order to pinpoint their perceptions regarding the educational attention that immigrant students receive and the opportunities that are generated from the temporary language adaptation classrooms and school counseling for the promotion of intercultural education. After the qualitative analysis, this classroom stands out as an essential device in the educational response received by these students. The main outcomes also show that the educational counselor is a key figure in the processes of educational attention to immigrant students, although they are faced with some challenges that remain pending in this process. These professionals assume the role of advisers, guides, coordinators, and promoters in the preparation of cultural proposals and actions. Their work is equally relevant in family–school–community mediation and in the positive promotion of intercultural coexistence. The discussion focuses on knowing the importance of intercultural education in schools as a response to the principle of “educating for all,” taking advantage of the educational context as a privileged setting to work on cultural diversity. This task must be carried out by the counselor in collaboration with the principals, families, other teachers, educators, and other agents. The research underlines the difficulties counselors face when implementing inclusive collaborative processes, while identifying them as key agents due to their pivotal role in the positive management of diversity.

Resumen
Abstract Cultural diversity among older adults is increasing and with this comes challenges in health care needs, including the detection of cognitive impairment. Cognitive impairments manifests in many ways, with early symptoms often difficult to detect. Detecting cognitive dysfunction is typically facilitated with brief, portable screening tools. Scores on screening tools may be influenced by culture, education, and verbal abilities; in particular, these are acute issues for screening older immigrants from linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds. The consequences of improper screening are high and, as such, finding practical, cost-effective solutions is of critical importance. In this project, we qualitatively examined the usability of different cognitive screening tools with the ultimate goal of improving the detection and classification of cognitive dysfunction among older adult immigrants. We extended our previous work by piloting adaptation guidelines for the Saint Louis University Mental Status (SLUMS) exam for use with linguistically and culturally diverse persons. We recruited 23 older immigrants (6 non-English speaking) and 14 U.S. born participants to explore the usability and test-retest reliability of the SLUMS exam administered with and without the adaptation guidelines. Our attempts to improve the flexibility of the SLUMS exam did not achieve the level of success as anticipated. Although this pilot work had low power, when coupled with our past work on developing adaptation guidelines, sheds critical light on the layered complexity that arises at the intersections of education, culture, race, gender, socioeconomic status, and intercultural interactions and the resulting potential directions for future work will be discussed.

Resumen
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the concept of social capital among International Medical Graduates (IMGs). It will specifically examine bridging social capital and greater intercultural communication which provides IMGs access to the wider community and plays a key role in cross-cultural adaptation and acculturation. Design/methodology/approach – A review of the literature. Findings – An Australian wide shortage of doctors has led to an increased reliance on the recruitment of IMGs. As IMGs migrate, they may encounter different meanings of illness, models of care and a number of social challenges. Nevertheless, greater cross-cultural adaptation and acculturation occurs through bridging social capital, where intercultural communication, new social networks and identity aids integration. This process produces more opportunities for economic capital growth and upward mobility than bonding social capital. Practical implications – Concerns regarding immigration, appropriate support and on-going examination processes have been expressed by IMGs in a number of studies and policy papers. However, there is very little insight into what contributes cross-cultural adaptation of IMGs. Originality/value – As IMGs migrate to not only a new country, but also a new health system and workplace they arrive with different cultural meanings of illness and models of care. These differences may be in contrast to the dominant western medical model, but often bring positive contributions to patient care in the new environment. In addition, improving bridging social capital provides IMGs access to the wider community and has been demonstrated to play a key role in cross-cultural adaptation and ultimately acculturation.

Resumen
The paper was aimed to investigate the problem of national and gender stereotypes’ influence on the choice of strategies for intercultural communication between ethnically or culturally diverse people. The case study took place in the course of trainings, for students, who left for abroad in the wake of the state of emergency, but continued their studies in the university online. The authors applied comparative literature analysis and sociocultural interpretation of the texts of the novels “Fear and Trembling” by Amelie Nothomb and “Good News from the Aral Sea” by Irena Karpa to explore what national and gender stereotypes had been reflected in postmodern women literature, as one of the forms of mass consciousness and sociocultural discourse embodiment. It was revealed that various societies possessed prejudices against foreigners no matter their educational or economic level, while the stereotypes concerning women were completely different in discovered environments; conflicts and failures in intercultural communication caused by stereotypical perception cannot be solved when people apply assimilation, opposition or subversion as communication strategies. Nevertheless, empathy, integration and transformation of stereotypical patterns of one culture to the foreign one could result in fruitful interaction and enable people’s adaptation to life in a foreign society.

Resumen
Malaysia is known for having a mixed population with diverse backgrounds and religions living in peace. Malaysian education systems opened their doors to foreign countries in 1996, allowing for the establishment of branch campuses, and the private education system entered our educational sector. Since then, many international students have travelled to Malaysia to study. According to the Star Online in 2019, Malaysian higher education institutions have registered more than 170,000 international students from over 135 countries for their intercultural adaptation experiences. The top three countries are from Bangladesh, Indonesia, and China. This qualitative study investigates the academic adjustment experiences of international students in private universities in Malaysia through the lens of Cross-Cultural Adaptation (CCA) theory. Employing in-depth interviews, the research seeks to unveil the intricate processes, challenges, and adaptive strategies that shape the academic trajectories of international students within the Malaysian higher education landscape. The study aims to explore how cultural, linguistic, and academic factors influence the academic adaptation of international students. Through purposive sampling, participants will share their personal narratives, shedding light on the dynamic interplay between cultural nuances and the pursuit of academic success. Thematic analysis of the qualitative data will uncover patterns and insights into the ways in which international students negotiate academic challenges and integrate into the Malaysian educational milieu. The findings aim to contribute to the broader understanding of cross-cultural adaptation in academic settings, providing context-specific knowledge that can inform institutional policies and practices to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for international students in Malaysian private universities. Resumen
Studying abroad equips learners with the necessary skills that help them get more prestigious and well-paid jobs and serves as a supplier of competent personnel for nations. However, learners abroad encounter many obstacles ranging from general living adaptation, emotional, cultural, social, academic challenges to intercultural communication issues. Amongst the causes of intercultural communication difficulties is the ubiquitous use of figurative entities in natives’ ordinary conversations. Despite the possibility that Algerian students might have a good command of English, they still face such challenges in the use of metaphorical language, especially idioms; a situation which might result in misunderstanding in conversations between native speakers and the Algerian learners. This paper sought to contribute to a deeper understanding and identification of the miscommunication and the cultural misunderstanding associated with the pervasiveness of idiomatic expressions in natives’ everyday language. The research took up a qualitative research method that involved an online questionnaire created through Google Form and shared on social media platforms and emails with 39 Algerian students learning in different English and Scottish universities. The paper evinces that incompetence in the use of idioms lead to breakdowns in communication with native speakers. Drawing on the established findings, it is advisable to adopt constructive attitudes and practices towards the teaching/learning of idioms in language classes.

This study examined the communication experiences of a section of Ugandan immigrants during their acculturation process to the U.S. Kim’s theory of communication cultural adaptation was applied to identify the communication challenges and strategies used in the acculturation process. Ten women and twelve men were interviewed for the study. Four themes emerged: language, superiority and discrimination, self-promotion and aggressiveness, and adaptation and cultural change. The findings indicated that Ugandans have pursued a strategy of cultural integration as opposed to marginalization, assimilation, or separation. The findings can be used to aid both the immigrants and members of the U.S. host culture to better prepare for intercultural communication involving the two cultures. Also, the research breaks the ground for future studies on a wider array of Ugandan and other African immigrant communities whose unique communication experiences during their acculturation in U.S. have been overlooked.

Abstract Return migrations are a special type of migration experience. Children from migrant families returning to their home country face many challenges when they start their education in a new education system, which often also concern foreign students. The aim of the article is to present the functioning of children from families of return migrants in Polish schools in terms of linguistic and (inter)cultural challenges, especially important during the first period of adaptation to the new school environment. The text is theoretical in nature and is based on the analysis of the available literature on the subject. The two types of challenges required to focus on the linguistic perspective, especially the glottodidactic one, and the pedagogical perspective based on the approach and research in the field of intercultural pedagogy. The analysis will allow to formulate conclusions important for the educational practice of children from families of return migrants, taking into account the specificity of this group.

Resumen
Introduction: This article presents the findings, related with the vulnerabilities regarding access to health services felt by refugee women, of a research project conducted in Portugal between 2020 and 2022 as part of the Masters in Intercultural Relations program at Universidade Aberta. Objective: The overall goal was to gain a better understanding of the psychosocial reality of women who arrived in Portugal as a result of forced migration, focusing on the main difficulties of the migratory and adaptation journey - highlighting vulnerabilities related to health and access to health services at the present article - and the protective factors that facilitated their processes of resilience, adaptation, and social integration. Methodology: To that end, the protagonists' meanings for their experiences were revealed through nine semi-structured and in-depth interviews with women from Iraq, Syria, and Libya. Results: The investigation uncovered a number of vulnerabilities caused by migratory experience and gender belonging, which justified the intersectional analysis. Resumen
Digitalization of business in combination with cultural diversity has created a new space and conditions where communication becomes a challenge. The purpose of the article is to identify intercultural aspects of communication in the context of digital business development. It is established that cultural sensitivity in business involves, on one hand, the formation of respect for legal and moral norms specific to a particular community, and on the other hand, enhances the operational efficiency of the company. It is argued that cultural factors influence decision-making in international business, and awareness and knowledge of cultural differences enhance the competitiveness of the company. It is postulated that the intercultural competencies of managers should be viewed in terms of their new functions and socio-professional roles in transnational organizations and through the lens of their cultural intelligence, which facilitates adaptation to new cultural realities and cultural freedom—a set of necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities for a manager in an international and even global dimension. The top 10 countries in the Digital Technology Usage Index (NRI) reveal three trends: they belong to high-income countries, demonstrate reliable network readiness in all dimensions, and European countries continue to dominate the list. These trends persisted in the 2023 ranking. The challenges hindering the development of digital trends and the transformation of the Ukrainian economy into a digital one are substantiated. Two scenarios for the development of digital business in Ukraine are identified depending on the assessment of the criticality and necessity of changes in the traditional economic structure: the inertial (evolutionary) and the targeted (forced). In the case of implementing the inertial scenario, the Ukrainian economy will remain inefficient, labor migration will continue, and Ukrainian products will be non-competitive in external markets. The targeted scenario envisions the transition of the Ukrainian economy to a digital one within 3-5 years. The result will be the emergence of new norms, standards, and value systems. The internationalization of management changes the traditional model of management communications.

Resumen
Culture is a way of life and embodiment of civilizations that is expressed through a language. The transfer of culture is a significant aspect of audio-visual translation as translators deal with more than just the written texts on surface level. Translating culture-specific items on paper cutting is an intercultural communication. However, translating cultural items in subtitling could cause challenges and problems for translators during the translation process. In this qualitative study, the translation strategies and challenges were explored in the subtitling of a Chinese cultural documentary on the art of papercutting titled The Life of Paper-cutting (剪紙人生; Jiǎn zhǐ rén shēng) retrieved from YouTube. The original video was subtitled to identify the challenges in subtitling. The strategies and challenges were first identified and then the process was described. It was found that the most appropriate translation strategies were omission, direct transfer, equivalence, and adaptation. The analysis revealed that the challenges were mainly technical, cultural, and linguistic. The findings can be used as a guide to utilise the translation strategies effectively in subtitling translations of similar audio-visual products to tackle the challenges faced in the Chinese to English translation of culture-specific items.

Resumen
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship and mechanisms influencing the positive psychological capital, social support and sociocultural adaptation of Chinese international students pursuing higher education in Malaysian universities. Through quantitative research methods, the mechanisms that facilitate or hinder the successful sociocultural adaptation of Chinese international students to a new sociocultural environment are revealed. Given the increasing popularity of cross-border international student mobility, this study is highly relevant and provides important insights into the potential opportunities and challenges posed by such mobility. The findings suggest a significant positive relationship between psychological resources (positive psychological capital) and sociocultural adaptation among Chinese overseas students. Meanwhile, social support played a partial mediating role, facilitating the transformation of internal strengths (psychological capital) to external outcomes (sociocultural adaptation). The findings of this study have important implications for university assistance programmes that aim to improve the success and well-being of Chinese overseas students by enhancing psychological resources. Furthermore, this investigation contributes fresh insights to the wider discourse on intercultural education, clarifying how psychological elements impact international student adjustment within such contexts. It serves as a foundation for crafting more impactful interventions targeted at mitigating acculturative stress encountered by international students during their overseas academic pursuits.

Resumen
Muslim life on the individual, family, and community levels continues to revolve around fundamental spiritual principles, themes, and values with corresponding meanings that impact purpose of life and even lifestyle. Muslim parents pursue ways and means to nurture their children’s spirituality, strengthen their moral resilience, and shape their identity as effective members of society. This theoretical study explores Islamic insights into spiritual parenting, addressing questions around what defines spiritual parenting and constitutes its core tenets, characteristics and approaches, and principles and guidelines used by Muslims to raise spiritual children. This study identifies a rich Islamic conceptualization and theoretical approach to holistic spiritual parenting that engages with modernity and allows room for adaptation, creativity, and intercultural experience. Further empirical research is needed to shed light on the current dynamics of Muslim spiritual parenting, parents’ struggles, accommodations, adaptations, as well as caregiver resistance in practices of spiritual parenting, which would help us better understand the needs and challenges facing Muslim families today and further enrich our understanding of comparative and cross-cultural parenting in multicultural societies.
