Zhang, Qiaoming. "Electrolyte-gated organic field-effect transistors based on organic semiconductor: insulating polymer blends". Doctoral thesis, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/10803/667288.
Texto completoThe present Doctoral Thesis is focused on the fabrication, optimization, characterization and application of organic semiconductors:insulating polymer blends for electrolyte-gated organic field-effect transistors (EGOFETs), which are considered a promising sensing platform in the field of bioelectronics due to their ability to operate in common electrolyte media. Up to date, although several research works have already demonstrated the high potential of using EGOFETs as sensing platform, some unsolved problems (i.e. low carrier mobility, slow response time and fast degradation) are actually hindering their practical application. Within this context, the thesis is divided into three main parts, from EGOFET devices fabrication to their applications. The first part of the thesis aims to obtain robust and efficient EGOFETs device based on two overlooked strategies: (i) the exploitation of blends composed by an insulating polymer and an organic semiconductor (OSC) and (ii) the use of a solution-shearing technique, such as bar-assisted meniscus shearing (BAMS), to deposit the OSC:PS blend. In this part (Chapter 2), four OSCs, including three small molecules and one polymer, were selected as active materials for the fabrication of EGOFETs. The four OSC:polymer blends EGOFET devices have been systematically studied by evaluating and comparing their transfer and output characteristics, potentiometric sensitivity, switching speed and their electrical stability properties recorded in MilliQ water and a NaCl solution as electrolyte media. In addition, the second part of the thesis (Chapter 3) is devoted to the development of a mercury ions sensor based on an EGOFETs by systematically exposing the blend films to a mercury ions aqueous solutions. In this case, a gradual positive threshold voltage shift of the electrical characteristics was observed, which was selected as the detection parameter towards mercury ions. Furthermore, Kelvin probe force microscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests were carried out to explore the mechanism of the mercury response, which was demonstrated to be related to the redox reaction between Hg2+ ions and the semiconductor surface. Finally, the third part of the thesis (Chapter 4) is focused on the fabrication of a novel EGOFET device, namely a hydrogel-gated organic field-effect transistor (HYGOFET). A high performance HYGOFET device was achieved by replacing the liquid electrolyte with a water-based hydrogel to serve as dielectric layer. Furthermore, the HYGOFET exhibits an excellent response to pressure stimuli due to the alignment of water dipoles within the OSC layer. The device can thus be envisioned as proof of concept device which can be find applications in the field of textile electronic skin.

Texto completoThis PhD thesis deals the assessment method of the state of power transformers filled with oil. It brings a new approach by implementing classification methods and data mining dedicated to transformer maintenance. It proposes a strategy based on two new oil health indicators built from an adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS). Two classifiers were built on a labeled learning database. The Naive Bayes classifier was retained for the detection of fault from gases dissolved in oil. A simple and efficient flowchart for evaluating the condition of transformers is proposed. It allows a quick analysis of the parameters resulting from physicochemical analyzes of oil and dissolved gases. Using unsupervised classification techniques through the methods of kmeans and fuzzy C-means allowed to reconstruct operating periods of a transformer, with some particular faults. It has also been demonstrated how these methods can be used as tool to help the maintenance of a group of transformers from available oil analysis data

Texto completoImproving the energy efficiency of buildings is essential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate against climate change. Historic dwellings represent a large part of the French building stock that needs to be refurbished. In the city center of Cahors, France, the old medieval dwellings are considered as valuable cultural heritage and internal insulation is often the only insulation technique that can be used when the architectural value of the exterior façade is to be preserved. This PhD thesis, funded by a CIFRE agreement with the Communauté d’Agglomération du Grand Cahors, studied the suitability of bio-based materials for the internal insulation of historical dwellings in urban area. The selection of the insulation material and the system is crucial because of its impact on the hygrothermal performance of the wall, the indoor air quality, the financial cost, and the carbon footprint of the refurbishment solution. In this study we focused on the hygrothermal performance of the walls to provide a reliable risk assessment in order to avoid hygrothermal failure. Due to the complexity of the problem and the lack of needed data, we ran a multi-scale study including both experimental (laboratory characterisation and building monitoring) and numerical modelling methods

Gouveia, Ana Catarina Pinto.
The acoustic and thermal behavior of building surroundings can have significant impact on resident´s health. The World Health Organization has been warning about the particular connection between cardiovascular diseases and noise. It is also proven the existence of a relation between mortality and the absence of thermal comfort of buildings, demonstrated by the mortality seasonality, climate and lack of living conditions. It is particularly important to look for glass solutions that ensure environmental comfort inside buildings such as glazed openings, which are among the most predominant elements on acoustic and thermal comfort of buildings. The aim of the present document is to compile and discuss selection criteria just as the analysis of information that eases glazing selection for application in building surroundings, depending on more critical components associated with acoustic and thermal comfort of interior environment. Several results from calculating tools, laboratory experiments, articles and standards were analysed. This study consisted on acoustic and thermal optimization of glazed openings intended for building surroundings, in order to ease the choice between the best solutions available for this application. With this in mind, it is intended to present several materials (glass, window frame), their most relevant features and the best essential components for window solution, having into account the most influential parameters on thermal and acoustic performance.Glazed openings allow the passage of heat, natural light and sounds from different emission sources, inside buildings. All of these aspects can be improved by altering the composition of the glazing solution. However, improving one feature can exacerbate another, which makes the task of ensuring an optimal performance solution even more difficult. In order to comprehend the impact of glazed solutions on thermal and acoustic performance, aiming the establishment of a relation between both, data was collected from thermal and acoustic parameters with major influence on the performance of the mentioned solutions. To examine and collect these parameters, a detailed revision of literature was made by turning to standards, tools supplied by manufactures, laboratory experiments and calculations. With the gathered information, it was possible to carry out a critical analysis of the component alteration impact. This stage served as a base to the next step in which was made a reflection on window sizing rules, considering the necessity to comply with the minimum requirements present on the current legislation. It was further complemented the observation of specification rules recommended in the Portuguese standard NP 4517: 2014. In order to verify it´s applicability, several application of the standard examples were presented in the thermal performance (U_w e g) and acoustic performance fields (R_w).
Rocha, Tânia Daniela Pereira. "Conforto térmico no parque habitacional construído : efeito da envolvente construtiva". Master's thesis, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/1822/31132.
The evolution of the constructive techniques has not always been in favour of thermal comfort. In primitive times, man adapted his habitat to the existing conditions through techniques that took into account the local climatic conditions. The industrial revolution, in the mid eighteenth century, brought major technical, economic and social alterations, changing the architecture, cutting the ties with the environment, which led to a substantial increase in energy consumption. In 1973, the excessive power consumption led to an energy crisis, alerting and raising awareness of the abusive use. Inside their houses the occupants, found through the use of HVAC systems (heating, cooling, etc.) the resolution of the problems related to thermal comfort. Currently, there are targets to meet regarding the reduction of greenhouse gases, established by the Kyoto Protocol. This protocol promotes energy efficient new buildings and encourages the existing ones to be improved. In this context, this work consists in the analysis of constructive envelope solutions for houses built before the publication of the first Portuguese building thermal regulation , leading to satisfactory level of thermal comfort. The evaluation of these solutions is done through the identification of hours of discomfort to the occupants, air temperature, relative humidity and average radiant temperature of the interior spaces. This work is divided into three parts. In the first is carried out a framework of the theme; the second part presents the methodology followed and lastly are presented and analyzed the results obtained in the project.
Nowadays the environmental concerns about energy consumption have been increasing because of the limited resources available on Earth. Therefore, it is important to identify where energy is wasted and study ways of reducing this energy consumption to contribute for an eco-friendly and sustainable development. It is known that part of the global energy consumption comes from the unnecessary outlay of buildings. Energy behaviour of a building depends on the quality of solutions used on its construction. This means that the global energy consumption of a building has a strict relation with the thermal quality of its active (energetic systems) and passive (transparent and opaque constructive solutions) elements. Therefore, buildings with more energy efficiency require higher acquisition and construction costs. For this reason, it is important the identification of what is the optimal compromise between the initial investment costs and the return achieved in terms of energy savings. With the elaboration of this work, it was pretended to relate the opaque construction solutions used on Portuguese buildings with the energy efficiency that they promote. For this purpose, it is used the concept of Equivalent Annual Cost (EAC) of the complete lifetime cycle (construction + exploration + demolition) of various types of buildings when located in three typical climatic regions of continental region of Portugal. It was intended to identify the solution with lower EAC and thus define the best construction solutions to build or refurbish Portuguese buildings. This study was carried out using market prices of thermal insulations, the Cype Price Generator (to calculate building elements prices), the CalProTerm spreadsheet (to determine the thermophysical properties of the constructive solutions) and the SEnergEd software (for simulation of building energy performance and calculation of CAE of its complete life cycle). The optimal construction solutions were identified, in terms of thickness and position of the thermal insulation, for five buildings types and for three distinct locations that characterize the weather of the continental region of Portugal. It was thus possible to identify the ideal solution to be applied in each situation (each pair typology of building / climatic region).
Despite the influence on the national and European economy, the construction market continues to be one of the biggest consumers of energetic resources and raw-materials, and a big producer of waste. In the last years, with the increase of the environmental concerns and the awareness of the population, the sustainable construction began its journey on the construction market. Now a days, one of the sustainability factors deserving more attention, is the increasing of the energetic efficiency of the edified, particularly in the edified renovation context. In order to support the project team decisions in the selection of the energetic renovation scenario, which allows less energy consumption and environmental impacts, the Energy Consumption and Environmental Impacts Integrated Analysis Methodology was developed, in a former project, providing the energetic needs of the buildings, as well as the environmental impacts of each renovation scenario. In this dissertation the mentioned methodology will be used for the quantification of the energy needs, as well as for the quantification of the life-cycle environmental impacts, before and after the rehabilitation. The aim is to make side-by-side comparisons of the environmental, energetic and economic performance of different insulation products, when applied on different energy renovation scenarios, establishing 31 rehabilitation scenarios. To study the influence of the climatic context, the building will be implanted in different locations, belonging to different climatic areas. To achieve this objectives, a case study will be used, consisting on a standard building, built between the 60’s and the 90’s. With this study, it is intended to understand the building's life cycle performance after the energy renovation, knowing the changes caused by the renovation process as well as the best and worst solution for each location studied. Subsequently, a Good Practice Guide for the application of high thickness corkboard insulation will be developed, based on the best practices recommended by the most prominent manufacturers. This guide intends to fill a void in the Portuguese construction market, since there are no guides with technical information.
