Thesis, Paris 13, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014PA131004.
Texto completoThe present thesis was interested in the modeling of the co-creation of product and the service in a context of collaboration of companies and consumers. In the process of innovation, the model demonstrates the importance of taking into account 11 variables facilitators. In particular, the knowledge management and the categories of consumers. After a state of the art on the literature, a qualitative phase allowed to enrich the theretical framework experiment was implemented with 230 innovative companies. The quantitative analysis of the data allowed the validation of the model. 20 hypotheses were tested of which 16 have been completed, so allowing to demonstrate that the co-creation with the consumers allows for companies an enrichment of the process of innovation. All the components of the model allows a contribution for the management and the avenues of research for the innovative companies

Texto completoDespite extensive research on intercultural consumer innovativeness, existing literature does not cover the topic of impacts of national culture on the perceived value of innovative product attributes. This study attempts to fill this gap, by studying the perceived value of innovative attributes, with regards to high-tech products across two major European countries (Euro zone members: France and Germany) using the GLOBE intercultural model as a framework. The results are based on quantitative consumer research (N=793) using Choice Based Conjoint Analysis and the Price Sensitivity Scale. The author’s findings highlight that national culture significantly impacts three aspects of consumer attitude with regards to the launching price of high tech innovations. These three variables are: the perceived value of innovative product attributes, the importance of innovative product attributes for consumers and the price sensitivity towards innovative products. In addition, the research identifies the moderator effects of consumer income on these relations

Texto completoIn a context of societal and environmental transition for sustainable development, agri-food companies must innovate with new constraints. However, research has not yet considered the simultaneous meeting of two approaches to product development, the "consumer-led" approach and the environment-led, "eco-innovation" approach to food innovation. A five-stage innovation process (ideation, conceptualization, development, validation, launch) that mobilizes various tools for integrating consumers, the environment, and decision support, has been developed in a research-intervention case to address this gap. The work has shown that consumers can be effectively integrated from the ideation stage through a qualitative method, the focus group, and can co-create products in an iterative way. The Life Cycle Assessment tool chosen to integrate the environmental dimension and modularized for the environmental evaluation of pre-concepts and prototypes, showed limitations (complexity, lack of data), reducing the impact of our proposal on the company's decisions during the process. A multi-criteria and scalable decision-support tool has made it possible to guide decisions on the three dimensions of performance: market, feasibility, and environment. Finally, this thesis provides perspectives for agri-food companies by proposing operational tools and future research perspectives that promote sustainable innovation
Angers, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010ANGE0021.
Texto completoThe use of electronic payment systems has developed considerably over the past two decades in almost every country. That trend has encouraged various actors to offer electronic payment systems (e-PS)-oriented new uses, such as online-payment or micro-payment. However, the new e-PS is slow to to take hold. Among the factors that explain the difficulties of those new e-PS, the problem of assimilation of such technologies by consumers is seen as central. The models explaining technology assimilation, traditionally used in IS have been developed in an organizational context and can only bring partial answers to practicioners. Indeed, those models fail to capture the specificities of e-PS. In particular, those models ignore the influence of network effects on technology assimilation. The objectives of the this thesis is to propose and validate a model for better understanding of the assimilation of e-PS. This research, based upon a preliminary analysis of theorethical literature and a quantitative approach using structural equation models (227 carriers of a solution of micro-payment), proposes to explain the failure or success of an e-PS, giving special importance to the concept of network effects (referent / global), social norm and risks in the specific markets that are two-sided markets. This research hepls to clarify the offer of e-PS, proposing a typology that focuses on the prescriber rather than on the end user

Texto completoConsumer empowerment is a practice increasingly used by companies as well as mobilized in academic works for more than ten years. Two types of empowerment strategies have been distinguished: empowerment to create that allows customers to submit ideas for new products and empowerment to select who builds on consumer votes for product selection and launch (Fuchs and Schreier, 2010). Based on the approach of consumer empowerment as a collaborative managerial strategy involving consumers and companies in new product development, this research aims at studying the effects of empowerment strategies on brand equity metrics for participating consumers. In order to address this research question, a qualitative study (conducted with consumers and managers) followed by three experimental studies (N = 719) structure this research.). Using a multidisciplinary approach (political, sociological, psychological), a conceptualization of consumer empowerment and a differentiation of it from other forms of co-innovation are achieved. Results show that empowerment strategies are more beneficial for low-familiarity brands (start-ups) than for highly familiar ones (replication on two product categories). Results also reveal that empowerment to create improves more effectively word-of-mouth and engagement towards the brand than empowerment to select. Moderating and mediating roles of several individual and situational factors as perceived expertise towards the product category, benefits retrieved by participants, motivation type and the reward effect (gain vs. loss) are identified. This doctoral work highlights that the gain of the innovation contest(vs. loss) doesn’t significantly improve indicators related to the brand being analyzed. Managerial recommendations are suggested for a better consideration of contributors’ profile and innovation contests’ design characteristics critical to the deployment of effective empowerment strategies
Lobasenko, Valeriia. "Consumer behavior towards innovative products : which methodologies for which values?" Thesis, Université Grenoble Alpes (ComUE), 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017GREAE002/document.
Texto completoThe general purpose of this thesis is to analyze the different types of values that determine and explain the choices and behavior of consumers with a particular focus on innovative products. Specifically, we want to know whether consumers are willing to pay for innovative products with sustainable features and how consumer preferences and characteristics of the product are involved in the process of the decision-making. In addition, we test new methods for such estimations. In the Chapter 1 we claim that individual preferences are reflected in willingness to pay for a product/service and are based on individual’s values. These values are stable for each individual, guide his/her preferences and actions as an individual (personal values) and as an economic agent (customer and consumer values). With the focus on the consumption of innovative and sustainable products, this thesis discusses also environmental and innovative values. The importance of value analysis for innovative products is of a high importance for companies, because it allows to anticipate preferences and their changes, and by this, helps to define the priorities of new product development processes. The complex systems of these values result in particular challenges for the estimation, discussed in Chapter 2. Therefore, the accuracy of WTP estimates depends on the choice of the method used by the researcher. The obtained results show that consumers have positive valuations of innovative products with sustainable characteristics. These valuations are based on consumers preferences and values inherent to him/her are an individual and as a consumer. The empirical studies presented in Chapters 3 and 4 offer two experimental approaches, which contribute to the understanding of consumer behavior towards innovative products and to the understanding of the difficulties and challenges for experimental methods of preference elicitation for these products/services. In addition, they demonstrate the validity of value theory in consumer behavior
Thesis, Paris Est, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014PEST0048.
Texto completoGiven the inherent particularities to the hybrid nature of new communicating products, ensuring that the boundaries between their categories of belonging become blurred and making their allocation to a well-defined category difficult, the classical similarity-based theories of categorization does not seem sufficient to clearly determine the categorization of this kind of product. Therefore, we mobilise affordance concept to help us understand the processes of categorization, evaluation and adoption of new hybrid products (NHP) by consumers. Through a triple theoretical lighting and a dyadic qualitative research (with consumers and experts in design), our doctoral research confirms the central role of affordances in categorizing communicating NHP. Affordance is also involved in their evaluation and adoption by consumers. Our research is of interest not only for manufacturers, to highlight design affordances of communicating NHP in order to anchor the product in either one of its categories of belonging or in the other (theoretically the most profitable), or even in a new category ; but also for retailers in their SEO strategy to understand into which category they should place communicating NHP

Texto completoThis dissertation improves customer scoring. Customer scoring is important for companies in their decision making processes because it helps to solve key managerial issues such as the decision of which customers to target for a marketing campaign or the assessment of customer that are likely to leave the company. The research in this dissertation makes several contributions in three areas of the customer scoring literature. First, new sources of data are used to score customers. Second, methodology to go from data to decisions is improved. Third, customer life event prediction is proposed as a new application of customer scoring

Texto completoThe purpose of our research is to situate the analysis of the innovation at the precise level of meaning. The basis for this innovation research is a move away from a purely technical perspective to a representational and dialogical approach. To achieve this aim, we propose an interpretive approach of innovation by analysing imaginaries and representations of three categories of actors (offer, consumers and opponents) who participate in the construction of meaning in an innovative « in the making » market : nanotechnologies. By considering innovation as a term with multiple meanings according to the different actors – i.e. a praxeme -, we attempt to overthrow traditional schemes in marketing of innovation which propose a deterministic, mechanistic and linear reading of the relation between the offer and the market -, and to encourage a dialogical reading between the offer, the consumers and the innovation resistants. By a qualitative approach, we study the discursive and rhetoric modes that are opposed by the actors of the « semantic arena » that constitutes the innovation. These modes, on the one hand, fit into a co-construction of meaning and a co-construction of the market. On the other hand, they fit into a deconstruction-reconstruction of sense and of the market. This work aims, on the one hand, to highlight the importance of meaning, of the rhetoric and symbolic games in the innovative context, and, on the other hand, to show that the meaning of an innovation is not predetermined unilaterally by the offer, but results more from a semantic confrontation between actors involved in a dialogical relation

Texto completoIn this researching work, we questioned the consumer’s practices of a technological and cultural product - the digital book - in public forums of discussion, with the final objective of identifying innovative consumer habits. Our interdisciplinary approach is based on the theoretical framework of the interactionism, by borrowing the key concepts of the daily interactions analysis (Erving Goffman) and of the verbal interactions (Catherine Kerbrat-Orecchioni), by joining the researches on the Documents for Action (DofA) and the Cooperative Transactions in a prospect of innovation product-market (Manuel Zacklad). In an approach of non-participating and ethical observation, we proceeded to the qualitative analysis of several threads of conversations on the digital book, observed in the forum BOOKNODE.COM. Our interpretations suggest that the consumer forum in a self-managed and self-regulated collaborative space, which the dominant activity concerns an exchange of practical knowledge, based on an expression defended from an individual standpoint or a commented and detailed experience feedback. We maintain that the consumer forum returns spontaneously not readily identifiable consumer habits. However, the absence of an analysis model satisfying to detect these uses, gave us the opportunity to build a new reading grid, then to submit a new interpretative approach. The application of our model - to deal in depth - in a co-innovative plan, results in the construction of an offer of new contents or new situations of possible consumer habits

Texto completoIn order to increase the perceived value of their offerings, companies can implement product enhancement strategies, consisting in adding new attributes to existing products. However, a literature review and an exploratory qualitative survey highlight that these marketing strategies are not always effective to improve the attractiveness of a complex product. To clarify the consequences of these innovation policies on perceived value of a product, an experiment has been carried out in the car industry. According to the results, a new attribute can only generate an additional emotional value. In contrast to this value creation, it may cause, in some cases, a decrease of the social or economic product value. Some of these effects can be explained by the perceived price and the perceived functional advantage of the added attribute. However, the perceived learning costs of the new feature don’t seem to be able to act, on the whole, on the process of enhanced complex product valuation
Ben, Zina Karoui Sonia. "L'Influence des variables culturelles et individuelles sur le processus d'adoption des innovations : une comparaison France-Tunisie". Chambéry, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010CHAML001.
Texto completoThe introduction of the new products on the market constitutes a key success factor which can be with the ascent of increase in the productivity, improvement of the competitive position, adaptation to the environment and survival of the firm. The importance of these stakes requires looking further into the knowledge of principal determining success of the innovations, which are the innovators. Which are the cultural and individual characteristics of this segment of consumers? And which are the similarities and the difference between France and Tunisia, on the level of the interaction of these variables on the innovating behavior? It is the interrogations which we tried to answer. We developed an integrating framework of research which takes into account the individual innovativeness and the innovating behavior, but also the cultural variables likely to act on the process of adoption of the innovations in the field of mobile telephony. The perception of the innovation and the implication with regard to this category of product were also introduced into the explanatory model of the Innovating behavior, but as moderating variables. In accordance with the etic approach, we proposed a double validation of our conceptual model and this within the French and Tunisian framework. The results distinctly show the relevance of the taking into account of the innovativeness of the consumer of the innovating behavior and make it possible to appreciate the effect of cultural dimensions o the adoption of the innovations. The integration of the innovation and the risk perceived as well as the implication with regard to the category of product likes variables which can moderate the relation between the innovativeness and the innovating behavior, proved to be paying. Strong of the differences and the similarities highlighted between the two empirical contexts, this research has as an ambition to highlight a transcultural segment of innovators for the selected category of product. Specificities of each segment of French and Tunisian innovators could be indexed. It would seem that certain cultural or individual characteristics of the innovator are generalizable whereas others are specific to the economic or social context of membership country. Ultimate stake of this doctoral work being to allow the firms which act on the international markets to establish an international segmentation and to set up moderate strategies, which neither are completely standardized nor completely adapted

Texto completoThis Ph.D. thesis focuses on the joint impact of increasing income inequality and demonstration effects on consumer demand. In particular, it attempts to define to what extent income inequality generates luxury consumption and participates in innovation dy- namics. The analysis is part of non-Homothetic preferences framework and discusses sociological aspects of consumer behaviour. The first chapter reviews the macroeconomic literature on income inequality and luxury consumption. It shows that the analysis of luxury from demand point of view comes up against the absence of a commonly accepted and precise definition of luxury goods. The chapter puts forward the interest to analyze the effect of the desire of social distinction within a model in which goods an- swering the want for prestige have, not only a social function, but also an intrinsic utility and can be the product of a technological innovation. The second chapter examines the notion of wants and its consequences on demand. It establishes the mechanism by which wants appear and develop in time. It brings a formal representation of the growth of consumption standards in a so- cial context and shows to what extent the growth of wants participates in the dynamics of technical change through individual consumption demand. This chapter provides a theoretical framework on which is built a dynamical model, exposed in the third chapter, in which the incentive to innovate comes from the consumer demand. Using agent-Based modeling, this chapter explores the relation between conspicuous consumption and product innovation under various states of income inequality and different social influences

Texto completoThis Ph.D. dissertation focuses on consumers’ behavior towards the environment through food choices, to determine the most appropriate policies to limit the impact of the food system on the environment. This dissertation consists of four articles that study the monetary valuation of environmental characteristics by consumers, and the choices of public policy instruments related to these valuations. The first article, through a review of the literature, shows that the proliferation of eco-labels and the complexity of environmental information impede the ability of these eco-labels to influence consumers’ behaviors. In this context, the tax and subsidy mechanisms appear as an alternative solution which is studied in this dissertation by integrating experimental results. The rest of this dissertation examines the experimental results concerning the revelation of environmental messages and the monetary valuation of different dairy products. These experimental results related to dairy products are used to calculate taxes and subsidies that maximize consumers’ welfare. The second article studies how environmental messages influence consumer preferences, using an online choice experiment and a lab experiment. These two experiences show relative stability of preferences, especially when it comes to the significant decrease in the willingness to pay for the basic product, following the disclosure of information on the environmental consequences of the products. The third article focuses on two laboratory experiments when the number of offered products varies. The second experiment incorporates new products guaranteeing an equitable price sharing in the dairy production chain. It is shown that the monetary valuations for environmental criteria are dominated by higher valuation for health or for social criteria regarding the fair sharing of the value in the production chain. The fourth article uses the preferences revealed in one of the previous experiments around dairy products to calculate taxes and subsidies that maximize the consumers’ welfare. The levels of taxation estimated with our work are significantly higher than those that could be estimated by using the carbon prices advised by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).These four articles help to quantify public policy options applied to a specific type of product, and by taking into account market mechanisms

Texto completoWhy some innovations succeed and others fail?In the marketing literature, it is widely accepted that the adoption of a new product can be influenced by the phenomenon of social contagion, that is, the phenomenon of imitation of the behavior of other members of the social system. Marketing research was therefore interested to empirically study the impact of social contagion on the adoption of innovations. However, the success of an innovation is not only appreciated by its adoption but also its continued use. Thus, our study looks not only at the first purchase but also the continuity of use of technological innovation. Indeed, consumer behavior analysis in the long run will ensure their satisfaction and sustainability of companies. In order to do so, we had conducted a quantitative study. For this purpose, a research questionnaire was developed and administered to a sample of 593 individuals. The results of analysis with simultaneous equations show the role of opinion leadership and the perceived characteristics of innovation in the behavior of adoption and continuity of use. Our research contributes to the development of knowledge in the field of adoption and diffusion of innovation and leads to a number of managerial recommendations

Texto completoThe research addressed consumer characteristics affecting consumer willingness to pay (WTP) for renewable energy sources (RES). Three sequential studies were conducted, Study I compared the impact of attitude of Pakistani and French consumers on WTP for RES and, the next two studies focused only on Pakistani consumers. Study II examined the impact of risk dimensions on WTP as mediated by perceived value and moderated by consumer innovativeness. Study III investigated the relationship between internal/external environmental locus of control (ELOC) and eco literacy on WTP as mediated by pro-environmental behaviour. The results in study I showed that WTP for RES of Pakistani consumers was comparatively higher than French consumers. Similarly, the dimensions of attitude impacting WTP also varied between the French and Pakistani samples. In study II we found a negative and significant relationship between perceived risk and perceived value, this implies as the risk increases the perceived value of RES decreases and so does the WTP. However, the impact of psychological risk was consecutively higher than functional, financial and social risk. In Study-III we found, the internal ELOC positively and the external ELOC negatively affect the consumer's WTP. Eco-literacy turns out to be a strong predictor of WTP. Overall, the relationship between ELOC, eco-literacy, and WTP is successfully mediated by pro-environmental behavior. This research supported our theoretical propositions, contributed to literature, and provided academic and practical implications
Maric, Josip. "Sustainability and responsibility in the digitalization era : a study of consumer-level 3D printing technology". Thesis, Montpellier, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018MONTD015.
Texto completoThis study investigates the concepts of sustainability and responsibility in innovation through the processes of digitalization, marked by the emergence of new disruptive digital technologies. We observe the link between the digitalization and sustainability to understand how a specific digital technology can lead to sustainable and responsible outcomes. These criteria led us to additive manufacturing, or more commonly known, 3D Printing (3DP) technology. We adopted a responsible innovation concept as a set of principles to guide our study on 3DP. Moreover, this study design enabled us to align responsible innovation with existing research methods such as grounded theory. Through a bottom-up research approach, we observed trajectories of the current 3DP adoption/diffusion process and identified early users within their sociotechnical environment where 3DP is currently available. This constituted a solid ground to discuss 3DP sustainable and responsible nature and related implications. Responsible innovation concept, 3DP technology and our research methods are described in the Part I of this document.Part II elaborates main findings that can be divided into two sections. In the first section, we present characteristics of the sociotechnical system, current adoption process, 3DP innovation characteristics, and identify lead users. Current lead users of consumer-level 3DP are seen in the form of Maker culture and the coworking spaces. We present the insights on this specific interaction between the 3DP and Maker culture, whilst also discussing characteristic gender imbalance and new product development. The second section offers detailed analysis of consumer-level 3DP social, economic and environmental implications. Social implications indicate that there is an increasing societal expectation where 3DP is expected to lead a transformation towards more sustainable means of production. Economic implications are concentrated on the business opportunities relying on the growing 3DP market. As an evolving and niche market, current expansion and low-entry barriers are attracting interest of Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SMEs) who develop new 3DP services and products. Lastly, even though with a promising potential to preserve raw resources, optimize production, tackle planned obsolescence, ensure recycling and reuse of materials, consumer-level 3DP still faces several environmental challenges. Possible rebound effect in energy and resources could lead to consequences that undermine its additive nature, where ecology is not a central topic for 3DP further development.Theoretical contributions of our study can be summarized in the specificities of consumer-level 3DP adoption process, characteristics of the early adopters and sustainability implications. These topics are scarcely covered in management research. Moreover, our key findings also provide detailed managerial contributions for the practitioners and the policy-makers. These can contribute to entrepreneurial activities that demand 3DP alignment with existing business models or development of new products and services based on this technology. Policy-makers can obtain insights on the current 3DP practices that can help guide policies to support research and innovation linked to 3DP technology. Our study insights can assist their understanding of possible threats hidden in Intellectual Property (IP), security and standardization issues related to 3DP technology. Finally, our main intention was to contribute to the ongoing scholar debate about the 3DP technology, digitalization and sustainability. For these purposes, we have developed a detailed thesis monograph offering a broad range of findings, whilst two fully published peer-reviewed publications, alongside several conference papers, ensure public visibility of our work. The published peer-reviewed articles are available in the Appendices section of this document

Texto completoGiven the sizable economic investment of innovative products’ development, anticipating their success has become essential for companies. Therefore, a descriptive framework centered on user experience – also called UX – highlights individuals’ emotions as a criterion to predict the future use of products. Nevertheless, despite the pros of the models derived from this framework, they also have limits regarding the predictions they allow to make. Meanwhile, other psychological models aim to identify predictors of individuals’ behavioral intention to use these products for the first time or to use them again. These models – such as the Technology Acceptance Model, the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technologies or the Consumer Acceptance of Technology – enable to foresee individuals’ attitudes towards product characteristics and their intention to use them. However, they are also problematic regarding their way to take users’ emotions into account. To address the problem of the study of emotions triggered by products, we propose to adapt the Component Process Model. In this model emotions are the result of internal and external changes that can be categorized into five components: the cognitive component, the motivational component, the subjective component, the expressive component and the physiological component. We suggest using this model to specifically study the influence of a product’s innovational impact on emotions. Thus, in Studies 1 and 2 we show; firstly that it is possible to analyze the emotion elicited by products before their uses from three of the five components and secondly, that these emotions are not influenced by individuals’ personality and context. Then, in Studies 3 and 4, we experimentally test these components by comparing the emotions triggered by the first uses of so-called “innovative” products compared to the uses of products known as being “traditional”. The results of these studies confirm the advantage of using the Component Process Model to analyze emotions triggered by products and, more particularly, by innovative products

Texto completoThe central purpose of this thesis is the development of fresh fishery products with on one hand the issue of organizational methods adopted by stakeholders in the fisheries sector in France and on the other hand the question of explanatory factors in consumer preferences for these products. The neo-institutional theory of governance structures is used to analyze different organizational methods adopted in the industry. The theory of innovation is mobilized to study the contribution of organizational innovations in the development of fresh products. The results of the study of governance structures reveal the complementarity between the market and hybrid forms concerning the supply of supermarkets and hypermarkets in France. Mainly observed Hybrid forms are subcontracting and partnership. The results on organizational innovations highlight in particular various forms of responses from stakeholders on quality, freshness, traceability and product availability. Finally, this thesis has implemented the method of multi-attribute choice to analyze consumer preferences for two products, fresh fish fillet and fresh lobster. Through various logistic models, the results highlighted the existence of three categories of consumers. They also confirmed a willingness to pay for attributes of freshness, quality and certain environment related attributes. The originality of the thesis is to have included among product’s characteristics include the carbon footprint attribute. It thus helps to clarify the debate on relevant sustainability criteria to include in the common reference for labeling of sea fishing products in France

Thanks to the qualitative analysis, we proposed the research model with relevant variables. This research uses Partial Least Squares (PLS) for the Structural Equation Model (SEM) to test the research model and hypothesis
Tran, Thi Thanh Huong. "Be innovative to be green : how consumers respond to eco-innovative product designs". Thesis, Lille 1, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018LIL1A018/document.
Texto completoThe introduction of eco-innovation is considered an effective way for companies to strategically align themselves with consumers’ increasing environmental concerns. Drawing on the sustainability and innovation literature, this dissertation proposes that product design factors, individual differences, and situational variables, significantly influence consumer responses to eco-innovation. The findings of five online experiments explore the underlying mechanisms of how consumers respond to eco-innovative product designs across various Internet-of-Things product categories. Specifically, we uncover the effect of trade-offs between innovative features and eco-friendly benefits on consumer responses and shine new light on the moderating role of consumer beliefs about eco-friendly product effectiveness (Study 1). Our results also show that different types of eco-friendly attributes in new product designs trigger different consumer responses (Study 2). Moreover, this dissertation sheds light on the nature of eco-friendly consumer innovativeness and its interaction effects with perceived trade-offs in eco-innovative product designs on consumers’ product evaluation and purchase intentions (Study 3). We also document consumers’ associations between detachability of an eco-friendly attribute on consumer responses (Study 4). Finally, we highlight that consumers’ evaluations of eco-innovation hinge on ecological country of manufacture and its congruence with product eco-friendliness (Study 5). The dissertation concludes with theoretical and managerial implications, such as advice for firms on the best practices for competitive advantage achievement in an eco-innovation context

Grenoble 2, 2007. http://www.theses.fr/2007GRE21025.
Texto completoInnovation's adoption process has been explained by a "traditional" approach inspired of Rogers' (1983) diffusion of innovations theory. Meanwhile, an "emerging" approach challenges this view by integrating three novel elements : emotions; hedonist and symbolic benefits ; and usage diffusion. The integration of the constructs of these two approaches leads us to the development of a model of the individual determinants of technological innovations in the ICT industry. This model was tested with a representative sample (n=1516) of the French on-line population using as stimuli two new product concepts : one associated with a dynamically continuous innovation, and another with a discontinuous innovation. Results demonstrate that the "emerging" approach contributes to the understanding of the innovation's adoption process. These results also expose the major role of the perceived characteristics in explaining the innovation adoption intention. Furthermore, they highlight the moderating role of the following constructs in the innovation's adoption process : degree of novelty, certain personal characteristics and usage scheme anticipation

Texto completoThe purpose of this research is to explain and understand the adoption of novelty by consumers as a dynamic phenomenon, from its initial stage as an individual action to the collective one and finally as a novelty market. Historical studies highlight the link between the development of novelty adoption and the one of intermediate social strata. Historical comparison allows to formulate hypothesis: different status dynamics and State regulation of status. A contextual matrix is built to define contexts explaining adoption. Inspired by threshold models, typical sequences of collective adoption can be defined. Several networks of young adopters who recently graduated are identified and tracked between 2010 and 2010 (through video-chat in depth individual interviews, informal message exchange and online research). The analysis highlights the existence of novelty chains, and the role of novelty passers. It allows to describe two typical sequences of the collective adoption of novelty and restore the significance of contexts in which adopters and passers match together. Adoption stories are analyzed in the context of career and conjugal life transitions. They illuminate the link between the adoption of market novelty and new intermediate social strata. The Chinese context of transition and reforms after 1978 appears as a typical locus for this double configuration

Texto completoEven considering that the field of research for diffusion of innovations theoretically is a mature territory, its approach is predominantly macrosocial and quantitative. The cultural, symbolic or social aspects of the diffusion process may still be explored, by means of a microsocial and qualitative lenses. This study aimed at investigating the influence of the family transmissions in the innovation diffusion process in beauty products, by having the popular class family in brazil as a unit of analysis. The family transmission analysis is based on two theoretical keys: the socialization process and the influence among generations. Two generations of women from fifteen families were interviewed. The method chosen was their life story interview, complemented by the household and children observation. As a result, we put together a set of contributions, distributed into three theme groups. The first group introduced the consumer’s development phases, from the construction of taste to the adjustment of the consumption. Next, we introduced a typology of influences in the process of transmitting novelties, as well as a consumer strategy to manipulate the influential sources, called the confirmation circle. We further described the types of transmission of innovations, which are in favor of the reproduction or even of the renewal of the system of practices and values of the origin family. This study contributed to expliciting the close articulation between the adoption of innovations and the social structure, cultural values, context, the incorporation of a pattern related to consumption taste and imagery

Texto completoConsumers are most of the time left at the margins of neo-institutional theory. Yet, the institutional work concept makes it possible to consider consumer practices aimed at maintaining or disrupting formerly institutionalized practices or at creating new ones. Furthermore, taking into account the practices material dimension allows us to consider how objects play a role in consumer institutional work processes. The case of the French recorded music industry from 1994 to 2014 - when MP3 downloading then streaming overcame CD consumption practices - is studied with a grounded theory inductive approach. Our dissertation shows that consumers collaborate in order to perform institutional work (maintaining, disrupting and creating institutionalized practices). To disrupt institutionalized practices, they use « bricolage » to assemble available practices and objects, among themcommunity-objects that play a specific role: sharing information and objects. Moreover, material resilience, not only contributes to practice maintenance but also to disruption and new practices institutionalization

Texto completoThis research work deals with the process of product differentiation in a context where differentiation also becomes innovation. In such a context, competing firms must answer the question as to how they can acquaint consumers with the new innovative characteristics of their products. But while doing so, each firm seeks at the same time to alter the consumer's tastes and preferences in such a way that he shall prefer its product to that of its rivals. To start with, this research surveys the existing economic literature which, departing from basic assumptions of the neoclassical theory - autonomy of the individual and homogeneity of the product - fucuses either on the evolution of the product's characteristics or on the consumer's preferences. As regards particularly the behaviour of the economic agent, various recent approaches are examined which take into account his social environment. I then develop the following idea : one may enlarge comprehension of this behaviour if one is to embrace the anthropological assumption that the economic agent is a "sujet-au- sens. "" the product i have chosen to illustrate this process of differentiation is the automobile. Firstly, a case-study on renault is carried out through interviewing production and marketing managers as well as advertising officials in charge of the brand at Publicis. Then, in order to analyse empirically the process of spreading the differentiations, i have used the material provided by automobile publicity texts covering two differents periods : between 1919 and 1939 (286 posters), and between 1970 and 1996 (190 advertisements published in the press). Lastly, i have briefly outlined a historical study to bring out the conflicts and interests resulting from the social differentiation strategies; i then argue in favour of the assumption according to which product innovation plays a part in the making of social identities
Francesca, Serravalle. "Augmented reality in retail : an analysis of this immersive technology through consumers’ and retailers’ perception". Thesis, Lyon, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020LYSE3048.
Texto completoWith the advent of the internet and the digitisation process, the retail world has undergone numerous changes. As a matter of fact, this process has prompted all sectors to integrate technology into their sales processes. Particularly in retail, this process has meant that the physical and digital worlds have begun to find a meeting point. In this scenario there has been a shift from multi-channel, understood as a set of activities where goods are sold through different channels (online and offline), to a omnichannel retailing, where the two channels (online and offline) are integrated during the sales process. In this way, existing geographical and physical barriers are removed, leaving room for an all-round experience for the consumer. In this scenario is placed the work of this doctoral thesis, which stems from the interest of investigating the perception of consumers and sellers in the use of immersive technologies, with a particular focus on what is predicted by the reports as the most used immersive technology in the next five years: augmented reality.Through three exploratory studies (two qualitative studies on the consumer and retailer side and the last quantitative one), the present work aims to extend knowledge on the consumers’ and retailers’ perception on this technology. In chapter 2 consumers’ perception on augmented reality during the phases of a purchasing process is analysed through 20 semi-structured interviews, outlining the main perceived benefits and disadvantages. Chapter 3 analyses retailers’ side through 4 case studies, with the aim of studying their perception and readiness to adopt this immersive technology. Finally, chapter 5 aims to measure the relationship between the involvement of a product and its consumption behaviour, mediated through the immersion in the augmented reality shopping experience by 254 Italian consumers. Results highlight the role of immersive technology when combined with emotional product involvement, without which it remains a mere hedonic instrument. In fact, on the one hand consumers perceive technology as an additional, stand-alone tool, if not combined with specific products of their interest. On the other, retailers are aware of the main benefits brought by the introduction of a new technology, but they are reluctant to adopt it into their business. This is mainly due to two factors: the small and medium size of companies in Italy and a high uncertainty avoidance given by all the innovations not tested by their sector. The relationship between product involvement and behavioural intentions mediated by the immersive experience with augmented reality described in the model of this PhD thesis opens new managerial horizons for all those companies, which are aware of the benefits of these technologies and that would like to improve their performance using immersive tools

Texto completoResearch on consumer involvement in the innovation process of firms identifies profiles with the most interesting individual characteristics to innovate. We consider a new profile: the customer-member, co-owner of the firm, widespread in cooperative firms – which are governed according to the democratic principle "one person, one vote". We study the influence of customer-members involvement on the performance of a co-innovation process. This doctoral work is based on a qualitative exploratory study and a field experiment. The qualitative study compares ideas from creative groups, depending on whether they are made up of members or non-member consumers, and shows that members' ideas are of better quality. The field experiment is conducted through the organization of a co-innovation process – led by a cooperative bank via an online platform – varying the status of clients (members and non-members) in the ideation and selection phases. This process resulted in 535 ideas submitted by 425 participants in the ideation phase and in 577 participants in the vote phase. On the one hand, members participate more in the two phases of the process and offer ideas of better quality than non-members. On the other hand, the involvement of members to select the winning idea positively influences the quality of proposed ideas and the intention of the participants to engage in governance (via the purchase of shares), compared to a selection by the managers. These effects are reinforced when the vote is open to all customers. Members are therefore a resource for innovation and co-innovation is a way to develop the membership and to maintain the cooperative model

Texto completoIn Vietnam, the number of issued bank cards is in a changing dramatically, offering many business opportunities fi banks. However, the greatest challenge that faces the banking system of Vietnam is the usual or traditional use of cash' the inhabitants. This habit is difficult to change. Indeed, despite the card and its many services such as transfer, payment for goods ... many cardholders are still using essentially the cash. In the hope of obtaining a better understanding internal and external factors that influence the use of bank card among consumers, my subject is to identify factors the explain the use of the bank card by Vietnamese consumers. Factors influencing the use of electronic banking in general and especially the bank card among consumers are the focus of numerous studies. In the context of the countries Southeast Asia, there are nevertheless some authors who have studied this subject. Especially in Vietnam, no study h attempted to develop a model of factors explaining the use of the bank cards. Therefore, it is necessary to identify the factors explaining the use of bank cards among Vietnamese consumers. Moreover, our research is based on different theories and models involved (Theory of reasoned action, theory of planned behavior ... ), and different patterns of use bank cards performed in some countries in the world. Associated with a qualitative study of 20 cardholders achieved i Vietnam, we then developed a research model based on assumptions about the relationship between internal factor external factors and the attitude towards use, and the use of bank card among consumers. To test hypotheses of the research, a quantitative study of 1350 Vietnamese consumers (owners and non-owners) through the questionnaire administered face to face was performed. The results of this research showed that the perception of the nation infrastructure, the behavior of stores that accept the bank card, Marketing policy of issuing banks, leadership

Texto completoIn recent years, mobile technologies have created very competitive market conditions. Facing this new environment, banks have launched mobile banking, a technological innovation in banking sector, as a new opportunity to seize. This study raises a question related to the heart of the main problems in banking: who invests the most in ICT, and who aims to develop long-term relationships with its clients. To produce added value on technological investments, it becomes important for banks to ensure the adoption of these services by their clients at first time and ensure the survival of these services (continuity of use) through the development of sustainable and profitable customer relationships in a second time. This means that the understanding of customer behavior requires two phases: the "adoption" phase and the "post-adoption" phase. The thesis aims, first, to explore the factors influencing the adoption of mobile banking by customers and, second, to formulate an explanatory framework of the effect of these factors to establish and improve relations between banks and their customers. The analysis of data collected by questionnaires administered face to face with 282 respondents identifies three customer segments: non-users, users and adopters. The explanatory analysis by the PLS method highlights the important role played by four factors: perceived usefulness, perceived risk, perceived safety and the expected effort in the two phases

Texto completoCollaborative consumption refers to a highly varied range of practices – including rentals, loans, gifts, bartering and sharing between consumers – that challenge the primacy of individual ownership. This rapidly growing phenomenon has been the subject of many research studies that have attempted to define, map or explain it by identifying its determinants or evaluating its impact. Few researchers have focused on the cultural background to this movement. That is the focus of this study, which studies collaborative consumption from an anthropological perspective, looking at the central question of our relationship with ownership. This research, rooted in Consumer Culture Theory (CCT), adopts a phenomenological approach centred on the meaning of consumer experiences. In empirical terms, it uses an ethnographic study conducted in three different fields that reflect the diversity of collaborative practices: co-housing, collaborative pleasure boating and clothes libraries. Its main theoretical foundation is the use of an original analytical framework – cosmological infrastructure, inspired by the work of Stosczkowski (2008) – which highlights the salient traits of a particular worldview. The results reveal the emergence, within a movement that remains largely consumeristic, of a counterculture that is comparable to voluntary simplicity and characterised by a new relationship with ownership, which, for proponents of this counterculture, is not only replaced by the notion of usage but is also charged with different meaning. We call this the “cosmology of alter-possession”. This research provides a better understanding of the behaviour of consumers who maintain an ambivalent relationship with possessions, somewhere between detachment and the search for lasting links, and aspire to more open and collective forms of ownership in response to the social and environmental challenges in a world with finite resources

Texto completoReducing CO2 production policies in transport and technical progress, such as electric-car batteries increase in capacity, have opened up new prospects for electric-car. Furthermore, public institutions and private groups have engaged in encouraging and accompanying electric-car deployment. Despite this favourable context for the electric vehicle development, electric-car does not exceed 1.07% of the market share of vehicles in France. This thesis studies the subject of the electric-car deployment by Usage and Innovation inputs. In other words, how the constructing use process could dialogue with the innovation process? We have formalized car’s user context by an ecosystemic representation. Then, we propose a methodology (RUI) which will be able to capture, capitalize and evaluate the three knowledges Representations (R) -before use-, Uses (U) -during use- and Instrumentalizations (I) - long-term use- constitutive of an indidividual use construction. Knowledge analysis will identify brakes and levers of electric-car emergence and conditions within they operate. It permits also to identify actors concerned by the identified use blockages. Thus, we offer the elements to develop electric-car deployment scenarios in the Sillon Lorrain territory

Texto completoThe smartphones with application stores have created a new customer base. The smartphone user's data, obtained in huge amount every second, enables companies to build their marketing strategies, and to increase the number of goods and services purchased. The tourism and restaurant markets offer new possibilities with the use of mobile applications in order to improve the quality of the provided services. The objective of this research is to study mobile application use in the tourism and restaurant industries and to accomplish cross-cultural comparison between Russia and France. Applying a hypothetico-deductive approach both theoretical and empirical investigations are serving this objective. In the research two mobile applications are analyzed: Lafourchette in France and Resto in Russia. The mobile application use is regarded from three theoretical points of view: technology’s use, relationship marketing and cultural theory. UTAUT2 model is the central model of the research; this model has been a subject of numerous studies. We regarded this model in relation to relationship marketing and cultural dimensions. The results of the survey about mobile application use confirmed the hypotheses. Cross-cultural comparison demonstrated differences related to the economical, cultural and technology’s issues. Our findings are discussed from theoretical and managerial perspectives

Texto completoThe theory of the diffusion of innovations has been built during the XXth century around qualitative and quantitative models which does not take into account, otherwise barely, the influence of values and norms on the genesis of innovations. From a research hypothesis, the “complex structure” thought by Edgar Morin and Jean-Pierre Dupuy and an epistemic synthesis, this thesis proposes an experimental measure scale of the Boltanski and Thevenot’s “worlds” and the implementation of sociological forms, “the conventions”, as variable of the innovation adoption in a structural equations model inspired from the Fishbein’s Theory of reasoned action. Built on the field of Tv programs, this model shows that the adoption of “reality TV programs” are linked with specific sociological influences. These sociological influences involve atypical behaviors of TV viewers in front of the screen. The model of the influence of the “conventions” on consumer behavior opens the way to a new classification of TV programs as well as an improved prevision of the success of new formats

Texto completoUnderstanding how the tourist uses communication formats in a dynamic environment is a necessary element for managerial decision-making. Several studies have examined the attitude of consumer towards online advertising, but few have addressed it in the tourism sector. The main objective of this research is to identify the determinants and consequences of the attitude of tourist towards online touristic banner and their related relationships. We are developing an innovative model that highlights the above-mentioned attitude according to the vision of advertising persuasion through the trilogy of variables of attention, comprehension and retention. To empirically test this model, we opted for a quantitative survey carried out by means of an online questionnaire. Our sample size is 960 respondents divided into 32 equal groups. The results show four determinants (informative character, entertainment, credibility, irritation) and two consequences (attitude towards offer, intention to purchase). These latter determinants have a significant effect on the attitude of tourist towards online touristic banner in two directions: attention- retention- attitude; attention- comprehension- retention attitude. Similarly, beliefs of credibility and irritation also act directly on the same attitude, along side their indirect impact on it. Moreover, the latter attitude acts directly on attitude towards offer and indirectly on intention to purchase. From a theoretical point of view, this research makes it possible to identify the determinants and consequences of the attitude towards advertising banner in an e-tourism context, and thus contributes to enrich the understanding of this attitude. From a managerial point of view, this work will allow advertisers to get answers to the various questions related to the design of their online touristic banners, in order to influence and optimize the attitudes towards these banners

Endowed with this technological and decision-making power, consumers modify their buying behavior. The objective of our research is to analyze the impact of smartphone uses on shopping behavior in order to understand the determinants of mobility and the use of technology that play a role in shopping trips. The problem focuses on an analysis of the shopping process as a whole while keeping a less monolithic. Our research is empirical, based on a two qualitative studies: in a first study, we question consumers on their daily smartphone practices and on their hybrid shopping experiences influenced by this technological device; in a second study, we interview clients after a shopping experience in a shoe store of a multichannel retail chain. A first level of results brings a better understanding of smartphone uses (based on the criteria of frequency and intensity of use) that definitely fit in the continuity of “mobiquity”. A second level of results shows the link between these practices and the praxeology of the shopping process that becomes more rational and efficient under smartphone influence. Nevertheless, the shopping experience at the point of sale, studied here for a particular product, attests that the store must keep its singularity. It has to fulfill multimodal functions: traditional commercial functions in connection with a process initiated on the internet and sensory and emotional functions that reinforce impulse buying and avoid too rational logic. We propose to the retail managers to adapt their retail model and to revisit the role allocated to their physical points of sale

Texto completoThis thesis has three chapters. The first chapter describes the means of payment allowingthe transfer of electronic money (e-money), the determinants of their adoption and their usein the world. The following two chapters are articles that analyze the competition between fiat money and e-money from the Lagos-Wright model (2005). In the first article, unlike cash, the holding of e-money is guaranteed against the risk of loss or theft, and merchants must invest to receive e-money. Due to strategic complementarities between buyers andsellers, there is a multiplicity of equilibria where only one money, or both, circulate. We analyze welfare and quantify the model to explain the failure of e-money in Europe and its success in Asia and in the United States. In the second article, cash competes with mobilemoney (M-money). Agents can create partnerships and each transaction is settled with one means of payment only. Agents without a partner use cash, the others use M-money.Buyers with a partner always hold M-money, alone or in addition to cash, while buyers without a partner use either one, or the other, or both, or no money. However, M-money replaces cash only if the number of traditional sellers is very low and inflation not too high. So, partnership is a coordination mechanism that explains the success of mobile payment applications offered by brands to their loyal customers in the United States
