Texto completoWe evaluate impact of foreign presence on productivity and wage levels in the Turusian manufacturing sectors. A production function model is developed using a panel data set. Two statistical models: Hausman and Taylor (198 1) and system GMM were used. Our estimates have confirmed that FDI plays a positive role in increasing industrial productivity, implying that the government should increase their efforts to encourage inward investment. A more intensive foreign presence in a local labor market does not seem to be associated with levels of higher wages in domestic enterprises

Texto completoThis thesis is about the relationships between investment in research and development, innovation and productivity of french manufacturing firms. There are three parts. In the first one, we explain how the decision to undertake research and the amount possibly invested are simultaneously determined ; the explanative variables include size and market power measures by also a sectoral product imitation rate. In the second part, we link the investments in research to the number of patent applications, through a modeling close to patent race models. In the third part, we estimate a three equations structural model linking research investments to innovlation, and innovation to productivity, using limited dependent variables and count data econometrics for simultaneous equations models. Thus, we can provide an overview of the problem. Productivity differences between the industrial firms can be explained by innovation differences, where innovation is an output. Innovation output itself is explained by research investment but also by firm specific demand and technological opportunities. Last, these research investments depend strongly on the appropriability conditions

Texto completoIn the process of manufacturing servitization, Chinese government pays great attention to two questions, namely, the relationship between manufacturing servitization and financial performance of China’s manufacturing enterprise, and the relationship between manufacturing servitization and environmental performance in the context of China's deteriorating environment. Based on the specific data from China, the impact of manufacturing servitization on enterprise financial performance and environmental performance are analyzed in this thesis.Regarding to the first problem, an empirical study from the perspective of regional heterogeneity, sub-industry heterogeneity, and type heterogeneity is conducted. The impact of manufacturing servitization of 30 sub-industries, 31 provinces (cities) and 4 different types of enterprises on financial performance of China is discussed by using the data obtained from 512 manufacturing enterprises. Four major conclusions can be drawn: (1) Overall, there is a positive nonlinear relationship between servitization and financial performance of China's manufacturing enterprises. (2) In the state-owned manufacturing enterprises and private manufacturing enterprises, the impact of servitization on financial performance of enterprises presents a “saddle type”. (3) Servitization cubed of six provinces(Jiangsu, Fujian, Zhejiang, Anhui, Guangdong and Guangxi) passed the significance test, indicating the nonliner relationship between manufacturing servitizaion and financial performance. (4) Servitization cubed of 9 sub-industries passed the significance test, suggeting the nonliner relationship between manufacturing servitizaion and financial performance. These sub-industries are agriculture sideline products processing industry (C13), food manufacturing industry (C14), textile manufacturing (C17), manufacturing of chemical raw materials and chemicals (C26), pharmaceutical manufacturing industry (C27), ferrous metal smelting and calender processing industry (C31), non-ferrous metal smelting and calender processing industry (C32), general equipment manufacturing (C34), railway, ship, aerospace and other transport equipment manufacturing (C37). Besides, there is a positive linear relationship between servitization and financial performance in the electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing industry (C38).For the second problem, the global value chain not only brings trade in value added, but also forms a global trade carbon emission chain. The value-added decomposition method better considers servitization characteristics, it is a more comprehensive explanation of the regional and industrial sources of manufacturing servitization. An study based on the global value chain point of view is conducted to present the relationship between manufacturing servitzation and environmental performance, it can be concluded that: (1) When servitization level is low, an increase in the proportion of servitization in manufacturing exports will promote carbon emissions of export trade, but when servitization level is high, the increase in the proportion of servitization will instead reduce carbon emissions. (2) The scale effect and structural effect caused by manufacturing servitization will lead to the increase of carbon emission. (3) The technological effect, foreign capital effect and environmental regulation effect brought by servitization have no effect on carbon emission reduction

Texto completoIn this dissertation, I contribute to the literature on international economics by drawing attention to the impact of trade flows and structural reforms on productivity growth in the manufacturing sector in Europe and India. ln the first chapter co-authored, with Antoine Berthou, Jong-Chung Chung and Kalina Manova, we demonstrate that growth in exports and imports boosts labor productivity, but only export demand reallocates activity toward more productive firms in presence of price distortions. Moreover, market and institutional frictions dampen the ability of economies to react and gain from trade shocks. ln the second chapter, I show that the increase in Chinese imports of intermediate inputs is a significant driver of aggregate TFP growth in France as it increases efficiency in sharing market shares between firms. Allowing more firms to access intermediate goods at the best price-quality ratio stimulates aggregate productivity growth. ln the third chapter, co-written with Adil Mohommad and Piyapom Sodsriwiboon, our finding suggests that removing structural rigidities in the labor market and improving credit allocation would reduce distortions and contribute to productivity gains and long term growth in India

Texto completoThis thesis aims at analyzing sectoral (industrialization, tertiarization) and macroeconomic aspects (trade, investment) of structural transformation in Turkey using different approaches. The first chapter empirically identifies different trajectories of structural transformation in a comparative perspective. The results indicate that the Turkish economy is characterized by a relatively weak industrialization and a premature tertiarization accompanied by a low investment rate. The second chapter shows the weakness of the manufacturing sector's contribution to growth and productivity over the long run, in the framework of Kaldor's laws. The third chapter estimates the characteristics of the productivity regime over the recent period using a cumulative causation mode! The estimation results indicate that the investment rate does not have an influence in the long run, imports affect negatively productivity, and have an important role in the adjustment process. The last chapter studies relations in terms of price, production, employment and productivity between the manufacturing sector and the rest of the economy. The results indicate a lack of integration between the manufacturing and the services sectors in terms of production and employment, which confirms the pathological aspect of the tertiarization process. Ultimately, this thesis allows identifying structural fragilities of the Turkish economy: weak investment rate and: technological upgrading exacerbating a limited industrialization process that has difficulties in articulating with an increased tertiarization

Texto completoThe combination of human capabilities and dexterity with the machine efficiency has been a dream for decades. Technology plays a vital role in helping humans work more efficiently. Thus, collaborative robots have attracted much interest in manufacturing companies. The first part of the thesis is dedicated on determining the influence of bending moment on friction and torque transfer in transmissions used in common collaborative robots: Harmonic Drive gearboxes. Due to their great capabilities, they are widely applied in the field of collaborative robots. However, despite all the great advantages they offer, they present several problematic behaviors that affect their overall performance. Therefore, two experimental setups are designed and developed to study three types of Harmonic Drive transmissions. Friction laws are obtained using force transfer diagrams, which are a parametric representation of the equilibrium of a transmission subjected to input and output torque. The results present new parabolic friction laws for this type of transmissions. The essence of the second part is the improvement of the collaboration to reduce the danger of the robot to the human working nearby by avoiding obstacles at maximum operating speed. This improvement is achieved by proper obstacle avoidance and collision-free path planning, focusing on path continuity, final motion times, and average end-effector speed. We propose an offline path planning approach, considering the obstacle model, given an initial linear path from pose A to pose B. The obstacle model allows to examine in detail the performance of the trajectory in terms of time and traveled distance. The trajectory planning aims to avoid the obstacle using a series of arcs. A variation of Dubins curves defines the path planning. A set of low-computation equations (using radius, sagittas, tangents, etc.) meets the following requirements: (i) C1 continuity at the meeting points of the different segments (equal direction and magnitude of the tangents), (ii) minimum orthogonal and longitudinal distance of the new path, relative to the original path and the obstacle (main arrow and chord). From the general study in 2D, we develop the corresponding equations in 3D.The path planning equations are computed and validated in MATLAB. Then, the libraries and modules are transferred to the Python language, language supported by the robotics simulation framework: ROS and MoveIt, with application to the UR10e cobot. The simulation results validate the feasibility of the obstacle avoidance planner. These are then adapted to the real robot and improved to address certain issues when using the simulation methodology. The control of the end-effector speed is achieved and trajectories are evaluated in terms of total distance traveled by the end effector, total task time, average linear velocity of the movement, and resulting joint positions and velocities. The evaluation allows a quantitative comparison to rank the best trajectories

Texto completoFifty years ago, the expression of industrial performance was Taylorian, mono criterion, and attached to the financial results of the company. Today, the performance has adopted both multi criteria and multilevel dimensions. More generally, such a performance is usually related to the achievement of overall objectives and is dedicated to control purposes, post Taylorian performances are thus expressed on the basis of comparisons between the fixed objectives and the corresponding measures. However, this performance is often statically expressed, generally at the final moment of the temporal horizon which is associated with the objective achievement. In this thesis, we propose a definition of the “temporal” performance, according to three performances: the instantaneous performance, the trend performance and the predictive performance. The fundamental assumption in our work consists of considering an objective as being a trajectory of what we call intermediate objectives, throughout a given temporal horizon. Instantaneous performance is expressed by the objective achievement at a given milestone of the temporal horizon. Such a performance relies on the comparison of the objective and the measurement of its achievement. Trend performance is the result of the comparison of the trend objective with the trend measurement. This performance provides information concerning the objective achievement. Predictive performance is defined at a given milestone of the temporal horizon, for a future milestone of this horizon. It is the result of the comparison of the intermediate objective of the considered future milestone with an estimation of measurement at this same future milestone. Moreover, a methodology for using these performances is proposed, based on a principle of aggregation, "in pairs", of the three temporal performances, which allows us to provide a single synthetic piece of information that is, to some extent, the performance of the objective trajectory. As a continuation of this definition step, we propose a qualitative formalization of these performances, based on the fuzzy subsets theory. Rules-based aggregations and linguistic descriptions are used in this. Finally, we illustrate these propositions with examples that are extracted from the OEE improvement project of the Fournier Company
