Texto completoHatred towards drama and performances and shows, though historically irregular and polymorphic in its illustrations, has not ceased, at least since Plato, to express itself chronically. Traditionally, up to the 18th century, it has mostly been the doing of theology and philosophy.Three reasons motivated this work. First, the belief that antitheatricality forms a much more fertile corpus than it seems at first. Second, the assumption that traditional antitheatricality has, on many levels, provided modern drama tools to establish itself whilst building itself “against”. Third, the relative lack of interest in French performance studies towards traditional antitheatricality – even though other fields have willingly addressed the issue. Thus, one may better understand what the title of this work implies: antitheatricality does not neglect theatre; on the contrary, it proves itself very watchful and well aware of its abilities to disrupt and shake – maybe more than the arguments used to defend and justify the theatre. This PhD work consists of two big parts. The first part identifies and classifies five big sorts of accusations aimed at the theatre: one of the economic kind (the theatre is too much), one of the dynamic kind (it is too fast and too effective), two of ontological kind (it promotes impurity in every sense, and it promotes instability), and finally one of the genetic kind in a metaphorical way (it corrupts the alleged “nature” of things). The second part aims to reemploy antitheatricality to question three domains. The first is political: what does antitheatricality teach us about the theatre’s (problematic and often idealized) relation with society? The second is emotional and sensorial: what are his effects (really and not theoretically) on the audience? The third is aesthetical: what does it teach us about the status and the effects of theatrical images? The work aims thus to study antitheatricality whilst listening to it instead of dismissing it, and to use its arguments in a critical/analytical way – to subject theatre to questioning
Saltel, Philippe. "Sentiments et vie morale : la haine". Paris 1, 1996. http://www.theses.fr/1996PA010687.
Texto completoHate is commonly regarded as the very worst passion ; it may therefore be significative to test a new understanding of affectivity on this instance. The two related versions of hate seem to be compounded of a (negative) desire, a (rash) judgment, a (pleasant) affect. From this analysis, we assume the hypothesis that this "evil passion" repeats inopportunely a first and vital disjunction. Consequently, it has a very ancient origin and a meaning which may become a positive one, if we are able to submit ourselves to its truth. So we must define an adjusted form of it, a cautious, understanding and courageous "hatred of hate" (that is, of itself). We have studied some illustrations of it in morals and politics and concluded that such a passion may be refined into a sound emotion, which, like others of a same kind, takes part in the construction of ethical knowledge and in the moral improvement of the self

Texto completoFor a long time, the policies of environmental protection were accused of being the cause of important relocations, entailing the risk of the « environmental dumping » and the appearance of the phenomenon of the « pollution haven ». It is this theory that we will take issue in this thesis by demonstrating that even it is exact in exceptional cases, it is not any more in most of the cases and it is because of several mechanisms which have relation with the nature of environmental policies, the structures of the market and the intern composition of companies. We are going to study factors encouraging multinationals to relocate. In addition, we are going to demonstrate the impact of these factors on the concentration of the polluting industries and consequently on the appearance of the phenomenon of « pollution haven » (Chapter 1). Then we will explain the ineffectiveness of the public interventions to resolve the environmental issues and the necessity of the social responsibility of companies as condition of success of environmental policies (Chapter 2). Finally, we will contradict the existence of « pollution haven » and we will verify that the environmental protection and the economic competition can converge in a way that the one be the condition of the success of the other (Chapter 3)

Texto completoPlanning the territory is a complex exercise due to the lack of knowledge of the future. The institutional actors in charge of planning must therefore consider and weigh a multiplicity of factors, internal and external to the territory. The choices made depend on the interpretation of the issues and the objectives to be achieved. The understanding of the context varies according to the representations and affects that pre-exist within the institutions. This work carried out in Cuba focuses on the territory of Havana Bay. The Cuban politico-economic structure, centralized and without counter-power, could allow a strong coherence between the decisions taken in a constrained international environment and the local context of the territory planning. However, it must be noted that there may be discrepancies between the institutions in charge of planning. These divergences, both in the definition of the ideal to be achieved and the means to achieve it, may result in proposals distancing from one to another. In order to understand the actors' readings of the territory as well as their affects, we used a classical methodology, enriched with 360° animated images projected in a virtual reality helmet, and completed by the realization of mental maps. Thus, it was observed that certain spaces generate important socio-spatial segregations, while being counter-intuitively very appreciated by the local populations. The results obtained accordingly show significant contrasts between what classical geography tells us as well the affects felt by the actors that were interviewed

They range from a school leaver who feels she is learning more at Findhorn than she would at university to an Indian guru who offers himself as the community's new leader and wants to build a temple in the garden. A poignant backdrop to the series is the growing frailty of one of Findhorn¿s founders, 87-year-old Eileen Caddy, and the preparations, both practical and psychological, that community members are making for her death.

Texto completoSince the dawn of time, the subject has wondered about what he is. Looking for a hate speech was a way to highlight the speaking being, his fate and his rebellion, in the center of this passion (the passion of hate). Men from Ancient Greece responded through myth. In their attempt to represent the question of the origins and of the impossible, they integrated hate. Hate arises like remnants from immemorial time; it is linked to human encounter with language and with movement separating it away from the Other, the place of language, in order to take the risk of becoming the subject of desire. Tracing hate and its functions in subjectivity: this implies to take into account the ways adopted by the subject to think and deal with real. Myth and tragedy, taking into account the worst human violence (matricide, incest, cannibalism, infanticide, parricide, murder, massacre), put into place a hate that can, as tales depict it, lash out if it is not treated by the symbolic. Crimes seem to ignore the flow of centuries and are repeated endlessly, and hate remains a constant companion of the positions of the subject facing his destiny. However, if the subject maintains his quest to explain the destructive impulses that occupy him, and if he always tries to state how his subjectivity is held together with the age in which he lives, he cannot appeal to myth, nor to any speech of universal scope acknowledging his own singular solutions to deal with his own alterity. Facing a discourse attempting to "bury" the subject of speech, at the foundation of civilization and of social ties, literature and art take over and offer performances which can "surround" the hateful passion, and mobilize the subject of desire. Psychoanalysis responds, in turn, by the consideration of singular solutions and ethical responsibility of the clinician and the analysand, in their maintenance, restoration and changes

Texto completoThis thesis focuses on the study of communists in determined space (the Havre) and time (1930-1983). It analyses the long presence of communists of the Havre, hinged on three periods and refracted in social, cultural and political records. The study of strategy, language and territory, allows us to understand how the communists have been able, not only to represent the different districts or fractions of the working class, but also how they took on responsabilities at the level of an important urban area and international commercial port, which actually has been much more multifaceted in its social structure, cultural heritage and political expression. There are three main reasons why the communists of the Havre have been able to develop organisations of international scope, starting from the 1930 crisis, which corresponds to their steady integration, up to the second half of the seventies, announcing their electoral decline and the diminishing of their political influence : initially, the first communists allied themselves historically with the heirs of revolutionary trade-unionism, then they took over from the lay republicans and the Radical Party, finally part of them got envolved in the "armed" resistance which gave them a national legitimacy. From 1956 et 1965, they managed the town council with the left wing united front, aiming both at social redistribution and cultural democratization. Eventually, a series of crisis made them lose strongholds of political power without actually breaking them up. The continuous reading of the local press, whether communist or not, the discussions with political representatives, union and cultural militants, resistants, as well as the analysis of pictures and memories, enable us to seize the communists of The Havre as real historical individuals, in their manifold movements and development and also in their contradictions : men and women taking root in the history of the local scene but at the same time dependant on international structures

In a period where careful and diligent investing is increasingly required, hedging is a powerful weapon that can be used by investors in order to reduce the risks associated with stock market investments. This project aims at studying the correlation between gold returns and stock returns, intending to find out if gold can be considered a hedge for stocks or a safe haven. The results of the use of an econometric model, based on data from some major worldwide stock indexes and a benchmark tracking index for gold futures, regarding the period from January of 1996 until December of 2015, suggest that gold is not a hedge for any of the stock markets under analysis but it appears to be a strong safe haven under extreme negative stock market conditions. However, it is shown that the results from the model are dependent on the period analysed.

Texto completoThe absence of an independence revolution in cuba at the beginning of the 19 th century raises an important historical question for anyone seeking to understand the destiny of the island in the contemporary era. We seek elements of an answer to this question in the socio-spatial structure of havana, which we situate both in the "longue duree" of the enlightenment and the "temps court" of the years 1808-1833, during which the contradictions of inlightened absolutism are brought to a height by the fench revolutionary and imperial wars. Fench-speaking travellers from revolutionary and counter-revolutionary france (1789-1830) are privileged witnesses of this "delay" in the independence revolution of cuba. Is the "delay" in the formation of the national consciousness of the creole oligarchy of havana the result of a coincidence in time between structural transformations in the havana region and the atlantic revolutions? havana, a strategic stopover on the west indies trade route, had become, in the 18 th century, the site of intensive efforts by metropolitan policy to reinforce and develop the imperial defense system. As a result, cuba's capital symbolizes, for all european travellers, the success of bourbon colonial reformism, thus effacing, to its advantage, the other regions of the island

This study attempts, from this findings, to demonstrate the effective existence of a representations system common to all this practices, and to understand its intrinsic dynamism. More broadly, it also tries to analyse the social and political repercussions of this system in cuba today

Texto completoThe history of trade unionism in Le Havre exemplifies the richness, contradictions, concrete achievements as well as the internal and different theoretical struggles of the original Labor movement. From the late 19th, the emergence of the workers in the port of Le Havre as well as the development of the industrial, urban, social and political scene started to shake up the local order. The growth of industrial action on the economy, driven by the implementation of a Labor exchange soaring trade unionism and organized subversive movements, ultimately contributed to this change. And pretty quickly, it is possible to see the establishment of an autonomous protest movement and revolutionary practices that direct action is one of the components. From the Charter of Amiens to theories of Fernand Pelloutier, from anti-militarism to Neo-Malthusianism, from general strike to slowdown, revolutionary trade unionist leaders set about constructing without waiting for the « Grand Soir » a society which revolted against the State and employers. This trade unionism culture, marked by particular forms of struggle, is adorned with a consistency that eventually swept the decades and, despite even the weight of the French communist party in Le Havre after the Second World War

Texto completoThe main aim of this study consists of trying to define how to read architecturally the building archives. We can study the archives concerning the rural buildings in the XVI century and try to understand how the creation of the Havre new harbour impacted in the long term, the process of all the buildings around .In studying this period we intend to stay nearest to the common buildings so we can ask if a border between the vernacular architecture and the learned one exists really. In fact this border is very difficult to establish. Most of these old constructions have disappeared nowadays but referring to so many archives collection we can study them in following two points of view. The first one will be the economical aspect. In using the antique documents we find out how the common builders yards functioned, where materials came from and at what prices. In fact we discover the local workshops and how that led to the emergence of supervisors in the maintenance of fountains and hydraulic constructions, then for expertise of the town houses and important renovations of the oldest constructions facing ruin. The second one will be the technical understanding of the archives collection .The position of each building is described, so it's possible to discover the complete organisation of the construction process and its long term developments .Two sites will be precisely analysed but the difference of function and size show that this method of constructive analyse can be applied to all local constructions and farther afield

Texto completoHate left painful scars in our societies that will never be forgotten. The rise of terrorism and the growing tensions among communities raise concerns about a possible long term instability of our society. Criminal law is the one able to stop this phenomenon but such a task is not without difficulties. The first of them is to understand and define hate, both on its effects on the mind and the shaped of its demonstrations. The modern means of hate transmission are tightly tied to the hate ability to have a strong hold on the most vulnerable people. The control of internet is one of the key to succeed but is far from an easy thing. The complexity of it, both technological and legal, slows down the legislator work. This obstacle, associated with the wave of terrorism, put the criminal courts in a tough situation. If the only way to prevent hate is to stop it before reaching the point of non return, preventing it is complex. The balance with the fundamental liberties is very delicate and the freedom of speech is often the first one hurt. Punishing incitement to hatred or denial of crimes against humanity leads necessarily to censorship. The conditions of this censorship are the subject of many debates and strong oppositions. In this case, the role of regional and international institutions is fundamental, especially to direct the aging french law towards the right direction. The criminal law regarding hate is indeed still widely limited to the press legislation while hate now used many different means to spread. The legislator and justice need to work together in order to create new offenses, improve the already existing offenses and prevention, always respecting fundamental liberties. Globally, it is all the countries together that must face together these new threats

The New Haven Residents' Training Program [NHRTP] was formed in 1988 as part of a collective bargaining agreement between Yale University and Local 34 Federation of Clerical and Technical Employees. The program operates as a collaborative of Yale, Local 34, and Gateway Community Technical College. This dissertation research began by posing the following research questions: (1) What are the cultural elements of the NHRTP, relative to the program's methods for surviving in and adapting to its external environment? (2) Of these cultural elements, which directly affect how the program is administered? (3) What are some specific examples of how these cultural elements influence the way the program is administered? The qualitative case study method was used to answer the major research questions, using Edgar Schein's theory of organizational culture as a research framework. Data was collected over a seven-month period through observations on-site at the NHRTP office; interviews of university, union, and college staff members involved in the administration of the program; and review of program and partnership documents. The shared basic assumptions of the group (one aspect of the group's culture) were identified when the data demonstrated sufficient continuity and repetition of response. But as data collection progressed it was accentuated that the program functions in a notably relaxed manner, in contrast to publicly-funded job training program standards, and the research question evolved to: Why does the program's external environment, Yale University, allow it to operate in the notably relaxed manner that it does? The response to this evolved research question is addressed in the context of two predominant characteristics identified during data collection: (1) the program's lack of data collection procedures, and (2) the interpersonal relationships between program staff and students and between program staff and Yale University human resources staff. An examination of the significance of the primary and secondary effects of these program characteristics shows that Yale University allows NHR TP to function as it does because it serves as evidence of a successful working relationship between Local 34 and the university.

Texto completoThe basic idea of an ecologic farm is the thought to be able to supply for its own needs and use nutrients from its own soil in such way that it returns to its origin in the area close by. EU has now for a long time set out to execute its ambition of a 100 % ecological grown feed forecological poultry. However, the demands have constantly been delayed due to practical issues with actually composing such feed since the poultry has complex need for certain amino acids in the protein sources. This makes it extremely difficult to grow or even buy such a feed for the egg-producers. For the non-ecological producers this is not as big of an issue since they are allowed to use synthetically made amino acids. However, this is not permitted for ecological producers which instead mainly use fish meal. Fishmeal is wildly debated and really not considered sustainable both because of overfishing and reduced fish stocks. Mussel meal is a relatively new protein feed that just has been approved for ecological use, it isproduced by the meat from mussels that are dried and then processed into meal. The purpose of our report is to review the mussel meal as an alternative protein source to achieve a 100 % organic poultry feed. The main objective will be focused on these following questions: • Why do we need a new crude protein feed in organic production? • Why is mussel meal a nutritionally good replacement for fish meal? • How can mussel farms contribute to sustainable development in a larger perspective? • How can you make a profit of mussel meal with the production method that is used now? The primary empirical data in our report consists of qualitative semi-structured interviews with selected persons working for, or represent the research elite of mussel meal in Sweden. The chosen persons with different positions and instances have played a central role in how we wanted to approach and illustrate the issues from different perspectives. The results of our study have shown that mussel meal is nutritionally equivalent fishmeal and therefore in a good way meets the poultry complex protein needs in a feed mixture. Unlike fishmeal, mussel meal is classified as an ecological feed, which means that it is preferable from asustainable ecological perspective. Since mussels assimilate nutrients by filtering the nutrients found in excess in our oceans, cultivation and harvesting of mussels thereby creates a cycle of nutrients that contributes to reduced eutrophication and promotes sustainable development. The problem is that commodity price of mussels is too high to be able to sell the mussel meal at a competitive price, but due to the basic idea of a mussel farm as an environmental measure, the thought is to get supported by environmental subsidy to be profitable. It would in many ways ease the procedure of assemble an ecological feed if it was allowed to use synthetically made amino acids for ecological producers. To create an ideal feed which nutritionally satisfies the hen’s high demands if they are to perform on an optimum level without harming themselves is very hard, which required in today’s intense production were the hens layalmost one egg a day. In summary, much is pointing towards the need to replace fishmeal in order to achieve the goalof a 100 % ecological feed. Both in a nutritional and sustainability view mussel meal are acompetitive candidate as a crude protein compared to fishmeal. Even so, either EU’s regulations need to change or Sweden need to allocate money for environmental support if the mussel meal production is to be profitable, and we are not quite there yet.

Texto completoThis work concerns the study and the modelling of residential mobility through the application of an input-output model (markov chains) on the le havre housing market. It provides an evaluation of housing needs (demande) by giving the average number of moves that are made as a result of each dwelling that become available in the housing market. The model presented is thus seen as a tool that could help for decision-making (prevision, testing of hypotheses on demande and supply. And for the simulation of housing opportunities in the market)

Texto completoThe purpose of this study was to analyse whether gold fulfils the criteria for being a safe haven asset in certain conditions. Through the use of data pooled from CBOE’s VIX, GVZ and the spot price of gold, we employ a quantitative approach to analyse correlation, rate of return and standard deviation during times of market volatility. The chosen period for this analysis is the time between 1994 and 2018. Gold proved its ability to retain value during such conditions, which is evidenced by higher average returns when VIX has been at high levels. This strengthens its role as a safe haven asset. However, gold failed to keep a low level of volatility in periods of rising implied volatility on the stock market, as expressed by the VIX index. Moreover, the implied volatility of gold, expressed through the GVZ index, has shown a strong correlation with the VIX, indicating that gold is not a safe haven. Finally, the gold spot price was shown to have little to no correlation with changes in VIX.

Texto completoHaving been a liberal city during the restoration and a pro-government city during the Monarchy of July, Le Havre accepted the Second Republic only reluctantly, with the result that it never fully embraced the Republican ideal. The search for an intermediate path between the "parti de l'ordre" and the "démocrates-socialistes" ended in failure. Yet, a republican movement emerged at the beginning of the 1860s as a result of a fragile union between liberal merchants and democrats. The Prussians ‘siege of the town meant that the Republic was permanently adopted, for it had become synonymous with the resistance to foreign invasion. Henceforth, Le Havre became one of the bastions of opportunistic republicanism. This evolution was due to the attitude of the local elites. As one of the main ports of France, Le Havre acted as a magnet for young people eager to make their fortune throughout the century. The Republic which was eager to ensure equal opportunity for all through education and to encourage individual achievement appeared to them to be the ideal form of government. The fact that part of the elite was protestant also played a part in the shift from political and economic liberalism towards republicanism. In other respects, the success of the Republic is inextricably linked to the attitude of the city's working class which veered over to the left as early as the Second Empire, while trusting the liberal and republican elites who were portraying the Republic as synonymous with progress for all through the development of education, trade unions and constructive agreement between workers and employers. Finally, the adoption of a new political regime can be explained by the emergence of a republican sociability. Committees and clubs, societies promoting education, gymnastic or shooting clubs, and choral societies were created. These all served as places where the republican leaders could come into contact with the working class and spread the democratic ideals

Texto completoThis dissertation looks into the interpretation of have-sentences in English. The verb have has given rise to a great amount of literature in all the subfields of linguistics; no consensus, however, has emerged on how it should be analyzed. Two of the reasons explaining this situation are the difficulty of determining what meaning have contributes to a sentence across its uses, and the definiteness effect it shows when its object contains a relational noun. In this thesis I analyze how these two problems have been tackled in the semantic literature, and I propose a new analysis that calls into question some of the assumptions this literature is built on: the transitive view of relational nouns, the nature and the scope of the definiteness effect, and a simple opposition between `weak' and `strong' NPs. Furthermore, I point at a possible way to integrate some of the functional uses of have into this analysis.
