Resumen
The inter-harmonic spectrum of an electrical voltage or current from discrete Fourier transform can not only be caused by genuine inter-harmonic components, but can also be caused by other system disturbances. Therefore, the existence determination of genuine inter-harmonic s from the spectrum becomes the premise for further calculation of inter-harmonic parameters. From the theoretical perspective, this paper firstly analyzes and points out that the waveform difference among each cycle in the analysis window is the cause of the existence of inter-harmonic spectrum, and then presents a method to determine the existence of genuine inter-harmonic components, which is based on inter-harmonic time-frequency contour chart and the component appearance rate. The presented method firstly performs continuous discrete Fourier transform on the captured signal with certain duration and obtains the corresponding absolute time-frequency matrix, and then the genuine inter-harmonics can be distinguished based on the component appearance rate of the matrix and the criterion threshold. The method is easy to implement with clear principle, it can distinguish the genuine inter-harmonic s from the measured signal. The analysis on several data groups from real measurements verifies the effectiveness and the practicability of the method.

Harmonics of power system include steady and transient components, extraction and analysis of them can improve the power quality. Tunable Q-factor wavelet transform (TQWT), for which the Q-factor can be easily specified, is adopted to accomplish the extraction of non-stationary harmonic component from the noisy signal. The proposed method decomposes a signal into noise component and non-stationary harmonic component based on suitable Q-factor. Feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are verified by the simulation study.

Resumen
Abstract Wind power equipment technology is the basis for the development of wind power generation. Aiming at the problem that the traditional PI controller is difficult to control the AC component of the current in the DQ axis, resulting in a large number of current harmonics in the process of power generation, which seriously affects the efficiency of power generation. This paper proposes a current harmonic control method for wind turbines based on a PIR controller. The mathematical model of wind power generation is constructed based on the synchronous rotating coordinate system. The current harmonic components are calculated according to the DQ rotor speed, shaft component, and other parameters. The PIR current harmonic controller is established by improving the ordinary PI controller to track and control the AC current signal. And finally, a current harmonic control target value is obtained according to different main control targets, and a specific harmonic component is eliminated. The experimental results show that the harmonic content is 3.12%, 2.06%, 1.17%, and 1. 02%, respectively, when the harmonic current order is 5, 7, 11, and 13. It is better than the comparison method. Therefore, this method can greatly reduce the harmonic content of the current in the process of different current orders, reduce the harmonic loss, and improve the generating efficiency of the unit.

Resumen
With the advancement in technology, non-linear loads, continue to increase, and the enigma of harmonics is getting more and more serious. The huge addition of electronic loads in power systems has formed the problem of harmonic generation that has resulted in many associated drawbacks. This paper aims to analyze the harmonics in advanced power electronics-based systems and describes a solution to mitigate them through two distinguished filtering techniques. A rigorous analysis is done concerning the generation of harmonic distortion through different types of loads and harmonic mitigation by employing passive and active power filters. The active power (adaptive) filtering method mitigates all sorts of undesirable frequency components using artificial intelligence (AI) based algorithms by calculating the weight of the fundamental component and generating a harmonics replica to subtract it from the original periodic wave. The simulations that were done show that the indicated techniques can mitigate undesirable harmonics and can lower the total harmonic distortion (THD) effectively according to the statutory limit of the IEEE 519-2014 standard, thus lowering the associated drawbacks of harmonic generation in advanced power electronics systems.

Resumen
In this paper, Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) and its improved method is introduced for detection and analysis of power quality in ship power system for the first time. This method is applied in detecting surge current and voltage interruption etc. of the ship power grid. Beginning-ending time, time-frequency, time-amplitude of the disturbance signal can be obtained accurately with HHT method. Mode mixing occurs when using empirical mode decomposition (EMD) to analyze harmonics, and consequently, all single harmonic components cannot be effectively decomposed. The improved HHT method based on Fourier transform is used to solve the problem in this paper. Complicated Harmonic can be decomposed into single harmonic component, and time-amplitude and time -frequency of harmonics can be obtained accurately by the improved method. In MATLAB/Simulink platform, harmonic source model of ship power system is established. Simulation results show that the improved method has better performance in Harmonics analysis than wavelet packet analysis.

Resumen
Abstract We studied the harmonics of the millihertz quasi-periodic oscillations (mHz QPOs) in the neutron star low-mass X-ray binary 4U 1636–53 using the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer observations. We detected the harmonics of the mHz QPOs in 73 data intervals, with most of them in the transitional spectra state. We found that the ratio between the rms amplitude of the harmonic and that of the fundamental remains constant in a wide range of the fundamental frequency. More importantly, we studied, for the first time, the rms amplitude of the harmonics versus energy in 4U 1636–53 in the 2–5 keV range. We found that the rms amplitude of both the harmonic and the fundamental shows a decreasing trend as the energy increases, which is different from the behaviors reported in QPOs in certain black hole systems. Furthermore, our results suggest that not all observations with mHz QPOs have the harmonic component, although the reason behind this is still unclear.

Resumen
This paper proposes a multisource power plant management strategy for the proposed structure. This power plant consists of photovoltaic, wind, and grid. The principle of this management strategy is based on the reference currents and defines two components of the current namely a harmonic component related to the harmonics contained in the load current and current called fundamental related to the fundamental of the load current. This proposed strategy allows the different renewable sources to supply the load partially or totally. The harmonic component performs the power quality function while the fundamental component feeds the load and injects the surplus production into the grid. The power management is done according to the established scenarios and responds to the demand of the load. The simulations were carried out with Matlab software, and these results show the performance of this strategy for this structure studied to fulfill the following functions: power supply to the load, power factor (PF) correction, harmonic elimination, reactive energy compensation, and injection in the network of a current with a low rate of harmonic distortion lower than 1% in accordance with the IEEE Std 519-2014 standard.

Resumen
In this article, a distributed control scheme to compensate for voltage harmonics in islanded microgrids is presented, where each distributed generation (DG) source has a primary control level and a secondary control level. In addition to the voltage and current control loops, the primary control level of DGs includes virtual impedance control loops in the main and harmonic components, which are responsible for dividing the power of the main component and the non-main component (harmonic) between the DGs of the microgrid, respectively. For coordinated operation between the inverters when facing the islanding phenomenon, it is very beneficial to use a droop controller structure. Here, the traditional droop controller is modified in such a way that the power is proportionally divided between the DGs, which causes accurate voltage regulation at the output of the DGs. By presenting a model for the inverter connected to the nonlinear load, a harmonic droop controller is designed. Through the droop controller related to each harmonic, the harmonic voltages are calculated and added to the reference voltage, which improves the quality of the output voltage. Then, the inverter voltage control loop is modified with resistive impedance in the presence of nonlinear loads in such a way that, when combined with the harmonic droop controller, the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the output voltage is significantly reduced. Lastly, the proposed method is implemented on the microgrid through MATLAB software, and the results show the ability of the proposed method to reduce voltage harmonics in the parallel operation of inverters.

The method of exponential smoothing, although originally propesed during the 60´s, still continues in use up to today. In this thesis we present a new forecasting method for time series / with and/or without seasonality, applying the theory of exponential smoothing and harmonic analysis. It is assume that the series is composed of secular trend (constant, linear or quadratic) and a seasonal part. The trend parameters are sequentially using direct smoothing procedure. The seasonal part of the process is treated / separately through the technic of harmonica analysis according to Harrison´s suggestion, (1964). In this way, the proposed method can be viewed as an alternative to that of Souza & Epprecht, (1983), which has, as the most important advantage, the routine of initial estimation of the parameters, which in Souza & Epprecht method produces, in some cases, biased estimators.

Resumen
Although the overall levels of harmonics in modern power supply systems are in most of the practical cases still below the prescribed tolerance limits and thresholds (e.g. these stipulated in [IEC 61000-3-2 and 61000-3-12]), the sources of harmonics are constantly increasing in numbers and are expected to increase even more in the future. Some of the examples of modern non-linear power electronic (PE) devices that are expected to be employed on a much wider scale in LV networks in the future include: light-emitting diode (LED) lamps, switched-mode power supplies (SMPS'), electric vehicle battery chargers (EVBCs) and photovoltaic inverters (PVIs), which are all analysed in this thesis. The thesis first reviews the conventional harmonic analysis methods, investigating their applicability to modern PE devices. After that, the two most widely used forms of harmonic models, i.e. component-based models (CBMs) and frequency-domain models (FDMs), are applied for modelling of the four abovementioned types of modern PE devices and their models are fully validated by measurements. The thesis next investigates the impact of supply voltage conditions and operating modes (e.g. low vs high operating powers) on the device characteristics and performance, using both measurements and developed CBMs and FDMs. The obtained results confirm that both supply conditions and operating modes have an impact on the characteristics of most of the considered PE devices, which is taken into account in the developed models and demonstrated on a number of case studies. As the next contribution, the thesis proposes new indices for the evaluation of current waveform distortions, allowing for a separate analysis of contributions of low and high frequency harmonics and interharmonics to the total waveform distortion of PE devices. As the modern PE devices are normally based on high-frequency switching converters or inverters, the impact of circuit topologies and control algorithms on their harmonic emission characteristics and performance is also investigated. Special attention is given to the operation of PE devices at low powers, when there is a significant increase of current waveform distortion, a substantial decrease of efficiency and power factors and when input ac current might lose its periodicity with the supply voltage frequency. This is analysed in detail for SMPS', resulting in the proposal of a new methodology ("operating cycle based method") for evaluating overall performance of PE devices across the entire range of operating powers. Finally, a novel and simple hybrid harmonic modelling technique, allowing for the use of both time-domain and frequency-domain models in the same simulation environment, is proposed and illustrated on the selected case studies. This is accompanied with a frequency-domain aggregation approach, which is applied in the thesis to investigate the impact of increasing numbers of different types of modern PE devices on the LV network. The implementation of the developed hybrid harmonic modelling approach and frequency-domain aggregation technique is demonstrated on the example of a typical (UK) urban generic LV distribution network and used for the analysis of different deployment levels of EVs and PVIs. The presented harmonic modelling framework for individual PE devices and, particularly, for their aggregate models, fills the gap in the existing literature on harmonic modelling and characterisation of modern PE devices, which is important for the correct evaluation of their harmonic interactions and analysis of the impact of their large-scale deployment on the overall network performance.

Zhang, Di. "Analysis and Design of Paralleled Three-Phase Voltage Source Converters with Interleaving". Diss., Virginia Tech, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/27579.

Texto completo
Resumen
Three-phase voltage source converters(VSCs) have become the converter of choice in many ac medium and high power applications due to their many advantages, including low harmonics, high power factor, and high efficiency. Modular VSCs have also been a popular choice as building blocks to achieve even higher power, primarily through converter paralleling. In addition to high power ratings, paralleling converters can also provide system redundancy through the so-called (N+1) configuration for improved availability, as well as allow easy implementation of converter power management. Interleaving can further improve the benefit of paralleling VSCs by reducing system harmonic currents, which potentially can increase system power density. There are many challenges to implement interleaving in paralleled VSCs system due to the complicated relationships in a three-phase power converter system. In addition, to maximize the benefit of interleaving, current knowledge of symmetric interleaving is not enough. More insightful understanding of this PWM technology is necessary before implement interleaving in a real paralleled VSCs system. In this dissertation, a systematic methodology to analyze and design a paralleled three-phase voltage source converters with interleaving is developed. All the analysis and proposed control methods are investigated with the goal of maximizing the benefit of interleaving based on system requirement. The dissertation is divided into five sections. Firstly, a complete analysis studying the impact of interleaving on harmonic currents in ac and dc side passive components for paralleled VSCs is presented. The analysis performed considers the effects of modulation index, pulse-width-modulation (PWM) schemes, interleaving angle and displacement angle. Based on the analysis the method to optimize interleaving angle is proposed. Secondly, the control methods for the common mode (CM) circulating current of paralleled three-phase VSCs with discontinuous space-vector modulation (DPWM) and interleaving are proposed. With the control methods, DPWM and interleaving, which is a desirable combination, but not considered possible, can be implemented together. In addition, the total flux of integrated inter-phase inductor to limit circulating current can be minimized. Thirdly, a 15 kW three phase ac-dc rectifier is built with SiC devices. With the technologies presented in this dissertation, the specific power density can be pushed more than 2kW/lb. Fourthly, the converter system with low switching frequency is studied. Special issues such as beat phenomenon and system unbalance due to non-triplen carrier ratio is explained and solved by control methods. Other than that, an improved asymmetric space vector modulation is proposed, which can significantly reduce output current total harmonic distortion (THD) for single and interleaved VSCs system. Finally, the method to protect a system with paralleled VSCs under the occurrence of internal faults is studied. After the internal fault is detected and isolated, the paralleled VSCs system can continue work. So system reliability can be increased.

Modal analysis using output-only measurements is still a challenge in the experimental modal analysis community. It requires the use of special modal identification techniques. This work discusses the concepts involved in the output-only modal analysis and the implementation of the Stochastic Subspace Identification time domain method. It is shown that a vibrating structure excited by an unknown force can be modelled as a stochastic state space model. In this approach, the SSI method estimates the state sequences directly from the response data and the modal parameters are estimated by using the eigenvalues decomposition of the state matrix. The steps of the procedure are implemented using the well-known numerical linear algebra algorithms, Singular Value Decomposition and the QR decomposition. It also includes a methodology based on the Probability Density Function to identify harmonic components of the response signals. The signals are filtering in a range of frequency containing a mode, to verify if it is a natural or operational mode. The approach is evaluated with simulated and experimental data and the results have shown to be promising to identify the modal parameters of stochastic linear time-invariant systems, based only on the output data.

This thesis provides a method for location and identification of consumers with larger contribution to harmonic distortion of voltage in power distribution substations. It is worth to mention that the stage of consumers location must furnish a list of possible positions where there may be consumers, who have nonlinear loads with high consumption of harmonic power. From this list, the identification stage is performed in order to estimate the amplitude of each harmonic from the location selected. Finally, a method for improve the location algorithm is employed in order to refine the consumer position. Therefore, by means of simulated case studies, the results obtained for these stages seek to validate the methodology proposed.

Resumen
This research presents a pulse-by-pulse analysis of Oscillometric blood pressure waveform at systolic, diastolic and mean arterial pressure points. Using a mathematical optimization technique, pulses are characterized into component harmonic by minimizing the least square error. The results at the important pressure points are analyzed and compared for different subject using different waveform extraction techniques. Blood pressure is estimated using the harmonic parameters. The approach studies changes in the parameters as oscillometric blood pressure recording is done. 8 harmonic parameters are obtained from the pulse characterization and are used to estimate Systolic arterial Blood Pressure, Mean arterial Blood Pressure, and Diastolic arterial Blood Pressure. The estimates are compared with our reference value to determine which has the best agreement. The proposed method is further compared with Maximum Amplitude Algorithm and Pulse Morphology Algorithm. The effect of oscillometric waveform extraction methods on the proposed method is observed. The experiment established the fact that the extraction technique can alter the shape of oscillometric pulses. The methods were compared and it was observed that the used extraction methods did not make any significant difference on the accuracy, using this technique.

Resumen
Includes bibliographical references.
Harmonic distortion of three phase power systems is caused by large amounts of electric power consumers using power electronic installations (e.g. drives and rectifiers). It has a number of undesirable consequences and has become an increasingly important problem with the rapid growth and ready availability of the power electronic devices and installations. A famous mathematical technique called "symmetrical components" was used to model the fundamental components of three phase systems. This method was extended to various harmonics. The aim of this thesis is to measure both the magnitude and phase angles of various harmonics which exist in three phase power systems, and to express them in symmetrical components. A digital electronics and microprocessor-based instrument was designed and constructed using the novel signal modulation technique called "+1 and -1" which was developed by the author of this thesis. This instrument was employed to achieve the above objectives.

Ecosociohumanism acts as a resolution of the "capitalism—socialism" opposition on the basis of their harmonious synthesis. At the same time, the goal of harmonious human development is taken from socialism, and the way of its realization from capitalism is a regulated market. The main components of eco—sociohumanism are: the theory of socio-natural development, trialectics - the doctrine of harmony, the science of man (human studies), the concept of national wealth and quality of life, the theory of the socio-humanitarian state, the ideology of sociohumanism. The essence of the socio-humanitarian transition: from the "consumer society" to the "society of eco-sociohumanism", from the social to the socio-humanitarian state, from the "social man" to the "socio-spiritual man" ("Harmonious Man"). The evolutionary trajectory of the development of "liberalism — integralism — ecosociohumanism" is scientifically substantiated. The interpretation of national wealth as a potential for the development of society is given. The quality of life index is proposed. Based on the calculation of national wealth and the quality of life index of Russia and the countries of the world, it is shown that the country is experiencing an acute socio—humanitarian crisis - the crisis of a person and a development model. The human crisis is associated with a deepening techno-humanitarian imbalance. The crisis of the social model is caused by the fact that the laws of socio-natural development are ignored in domestic policy. The economy, social policy, culture, geopolitics of a socio-humanitarian state are considered. The scientific foundations of the new peace movement are given. The attitudes of eco-sociohumanism are compared with a number of existing social concepts. It is popular in nature (without mathematical apparatus, often inaccessible to humanities) and is designed for a wide range of readers.

Resumen
James Tenney examines some of John Cage's theoretical ideas and their possible implications for a new theory of harmony that he argues requires new definitions of “harmony,” “harmonic relations,” etc.; such definitions, he contends, will emerge from a more careful analysis of the “total soundspace” of musical perception. Tenney begins with a discussion of the current disparity between harmonic theory and compositional practice before explaining what a true theory of harmony should be: a theory of harmonic perception (one component in a more general theory of musical perception) consistent with the most recent data available from the fields of acoustics and psychoacoustics but also taking into account the extended range of musical experiences available to us today. Tenney outlines the conditions that such a theory ought to satisfy and goes on to consider a multidimensional space of pitch perception called harmonic space.

Resumen
A theory of the structure of rock music is presented, addressing aspects such as tonality/key, harmony, rhythm/meter, melody, phrase structure, timbre/instrumentation, form, and emotional expression. The book brings together ideas from the author’s previous articles but also contains substantial new material. Rock is defined broadly (as it often is) to include a wide range of late twentieth-century Anglo-American popular styles, including 1950s rock & roll, Motown, soul, “British invasion” rock, soft rock, heavy metal, disco, new wave, and alternative rock. The study largely employs the informal, intuitive methods of conventional music theory and analysis, but it is also informed by corpus data. An important component of the theory is a representation of pitches—the “line of fifths”—that sheds light on issues such as stylistic distinctions within rock, effects of surprise, and emotion. The theory also entails a model of expression with three dimensions, representing valence, energy, and tension; this proves to be a powerful tool for tracing shifts in expressive effect within songs. The theory features novel approaches to issues such as cadences, melodic-harmonic coordination, the handling of sectional boundaries, and the classification of formal types. The final two chapters present analyses of six songs and a broader consideration of rock in its historical and stylistic context.

The chapter surveys the variety of important roles that music plays in society and for members of society. At its core, music is sound that is organized around five basic components: rhythm, timbre, melody, harmony, and form. These various components are perceived from the environment, and then the mind extracts and applies meaning to the sounds. The concept of the sound envelope, consisting of attack, decay, sustain, and release, is illustrated. Effective musical artists understand this meaning-making process and consciously design musical experiences to communicate meaning to listeners.

Resumen
This chapter discusses recovering shape or structural information from SAXS data. Key to any such process is the ability to generate a calculated intensity from a model, and to compare this curve with the experimental one. Models for the particle scattering density can be approximated as pure homogenenous geometric shapes. More complex particle surfaces can be represented by spherical harmonics or by a set of close-packed beads. Sometimes structural information is known for components of a particle. Rigid body modeling attempts to rotate and translate structures relative to one another, such that the resulting scattering profile calculated from the model agrees with the experimental SAXS data. More advanced hybrid modelling procedures aim to incorporate as much structural information as is available, including modelling protein dynamics. Solutions may not always contain a homogeneous set of particles. A common case is the presence of two or more conformations of a single particle or a mixture of oligomeric species. The method of singular value decomposition can extract scattering for conformationally distinct species.

Resumen
A France riven by hostile factions furnishes the immediate background to the appearance of Bodin’s masterpiece. Successive editions of the République are reviewed comparatively, and the vast array of sources which its author chose to cite is analysed, together with his manner of source usage. The work’s structure is identified together with its themes, initially in relation to the private sphere, and notably the question of private property. Then, firmly distinguishing the citizen from the private head of household, Bodin arrives at his central themes: sovereignty, the defining characteristic of the république, the forms which the latter might take, the ‘marks’ of sovereignty itself, and its basis. Attention is next drawn to another key Bodinian thesis: distinction between ‘state’ and ‘government’, the components of the latter being considered at length, with especial reference to the magistracy. The chapter culminates with the key topics of religion, justice, and harmony.

Resumen
Ideal for city residents, developers, designers, and officials looking for ways to bring urban environments into harmony with the natural world and make cities more sustainable, Urban Ecology for Citizens and Planners offers a wealth of information and examples that will answer fundamental scientific questions, guide green initiatives, and inform environmental policies and decision-making processes. This book provides an overview of the synergistic relationships between humans and nature that shape the ecology of urban green spaces. It also emphasizes the social and cultural value of nature in cities for human health and well-being. Chapters describe the basic science of natural components and ecosystems in urban areas and explore the idea of biophilic urbanism, the philosophy of building nature into the framework of cities. To illustrate these topics, chapters include projects, case studies, expert insights, and successful citizen science programs from urban areas around the world. Authors Gail Hansen and Joseli Macedo argue that citizens have increasingly important roles to play in the environmental future of the cities they live in. A valuable resource for real-world solutions, this volume encourages citizens and planners to actively engage and collaborate in improving their communities and quality of life.

Resumen
Smart realization involves a steady increase in inverter-based components like Distributed Energy Resources (DER), energy storage systems, and plug-in electric vehicles. The harmonics related to DER inverters and the spread of power electronic devices raises concerns for utilities and customers. Harmonics can create component failures, thermal losses and control system malfunctions. In this paper the authors analyze the impact of multi-source harmonics from DERs inside distribution networks. The harmonics impacts are evaluated by harmonic measurement indices. Harmonic emission in a real distribution circuit is simulated with the help of power flow analysis. The results are presented with visualization techniques to give a better picture of harmonic propagation vs. different levels of harmonic source magnitude and angle. Due to effect of harmonic on network efficiency, a sensitivity analysis considering power factors is conducted.

Resumen
This paper considers synthesis of a load alleviation scheme based on active rotor control for helicopter component life extension. The proposed load alleviation scheme is formulated in a model predictive framework. Using a reduced order coupled body/rotor/inflow dynamic model onboard the vehicle, real-time estimates of component loads arising due to vehicle maneuvers are generated. The load estimates in turn are used in an optimal control formulation to obtain the higher harmonic individual blade control (IBC) inputs needed to reduce selected harmonics of component loads. The performance of the proposed component load alleviation using IBC scheme is implemented in a comprehensive nonlinear model of a generic helicopter. Nonlinear model simulations show that significant individual harmonic load reduction can be obtained with very little impact on the maneuver performance and minimal impact on the uncontrolled harmonics of component loads.

Resumen
This work is a contribution in the field of Operational Modal Analysis to identify the modal parameters of mechanical structures using only measured responses. The study deals with structural responses coupled with harmonic components amplitude and frequency modulated in a short range, a common combination for mechanical systems with engines and other rotating machines in operation. These harmonic components generate misleading data interpreted erroneously by the classical methods used in OMA. The present work attempts to differentiate maxima in spectra stemming from harmonic components and structural modes. The detection method proposed is based on the so-called Optimized Spectral Kurtosis and compared with others definitions of Spectral Kurtosis described in the literature. After a parametric optimization of the method, a critical study is performed on numerical simulations and then on an experimental structure in operation in order to assess the method’s performance.

Resumen
Abstract Blade Tip Timing (BTT) is a simple, robust and non-intrusive method for measuring the rotor blade vibrations in turbomachinery. The analysis of vibrations characterized by multiple spectral components typical for example of flutter is challenging. This paper proposes a probabilistic method based on the Independent Component Analysis able to separate and identify multiple harmonic components sampled according to a BTT-like schema. The data are divided into batches of fixed length called snapshots, which are interpreted as realization of random vectors. The statistical property of the subspace spanned by such random vectors is used to identify the number of components present in the signal (i.e. number of active modes), to separate the components and estimate their frequency and amplitude. These results are obtained by applying sequentially the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and the Independent Component Analysis (ICA) and the Harmonic Matching (HM). The proposed technique is applied to experimental data obtained from a test rig with fixed disk and traveling load. The time-resolved measurements are resampled according to the sampling pattern induced by a specified sensor spacing.

Resumen
The quantification of storm surge is vital for flood hazard assessment in communities affected by coastal storms. The astronomical tide is an integral component of the total still water level needed for accurate storm surge estimates. Coastal hazard analysis methods, such as the Coastal Hazards System and the StormSim Coastal Hazards Rapid Prediction System, require thousands of hydrodynamic and wave simulations that are computationally expensive. In some regions, the inclusion of astronomical tides is neglected in the hydrodynamics and tides are instead incorporated within the probabilistic framework. There is a need for a rapid, reliable, and accurate tide prediction methodology to provide spatially dense reconstructed or predicted tidal time series for historical, synthetic, and forecasted hurricane scenarios. A methodology is proposed to combine the tidal harmonic information from the spatially dense Advanced Circulation hydrodynamic model tidal database with a rapid tidal reconstruction and prediction program. In this study, the Unified Tidal Analysis program was paired with results from the tidal database. This methodology will produce reconstructed (i.e., historical) and predicted tidal heights for coastal locations along the United States eastern seaboard and beyond and will contribute to the determination of accurate still water levels in coastal hazard analysis methods.
