This thesis is a qualitative, historical study of The Good Shepherd School in Huntly Street, Grahamstown, South Africa. It is one of the oldest school buildings in South Africa that remains in use as a school. There are two main threads to understanding The Good Shepherd School in context. The first of these threads, the colonial root of the school, is explained in a discussion of the Grammar School, attached to the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. George, that utilised the Huntly Street facilities from 1851 to 1902. The second thread is the strong tradition of caring for the underprivileged. This is traced through following the development of the educational works of The Community of the Resurrection which involves the discussion of various schools at different locations in Grahamstown. The current school on the Huntly Street premises, The Good Shepherd School, forms, however, the focus of this study, which draws on all the histories of its forerunners and their historical locations. Historical social science methods and procedures were used in the research. This was done through documentary analysis of evidence as well as through semi-structured interviews, creating an interpretative account of how the school has affected people's lives. The conclusion reached is that The Good Shepherd School has contributed greatly to the education of underprivileged people in the Grahamstown area. It appears to be an outstanding example of a school offering a well-rounded, caring education when this was historically denied to many people in South Africa.

The architecture of Morning and Afternoon. Create still life paintings using tenets of Purism to search for new form(s) from real objects. The paintings will be used to inspire and inform new designs for and architecture project. Using painting to study architecture will necessitate a dual world of painting from reality and designing architecture to become a reality. Purism means to learn to look at an object and truly see it as an object with its own qualities. Still life objects placed where the canvas is a space to design and multiple views of those objects are revealed at once. Objects like bottles, plates and other forms that have remained consistant over generations of refinement. Architectural approaches of drawing like axonometric will be used to help form a critical way of seeing.
The project is for the Good Shephard Elementary school for the Diocese of Monterey in Santa Cruz, California. The elementary school serves roughly 300 students that include pre-school up to 8th grade. The school is currently housed in a building that was constructed roughly 20 years ago and is at maximum capacity. The school owns and occupies a large piece of property in the Santa Cruz city and after school, weekends and during breaks the school is used as a soccer field for the town soccer league. The school is situated in the southern end of the city of Santa Cruz and accessible by car but does not front any major streets. Highway 1 runs south to north just to the west of the school grounds and is a major conduit of automobile traffic to the city.<br>Master of Architecture

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder which affects many aspects of personal health including psychological and sociological dimensions. Patients seen at Good Shepherd Hospital reported late for care since they perceived themselves victims of stigma, or discrimination.
METHODOLOGY
This study sought to explore experiences of patients with epilepsy seen at Good
Shepherd Hospital of Tshikaji about their illness; the objectives were to explore
experiences of stigmatization and discrimination of patients suffering from
epilepsy, and their experiences resulting in them reporting late for care at the
hospital. The setting was Good Shepherd Hospital, a private hospital in a rural area in the Province of Western Kasai, Democratic Republic of the Congo. An exploratory descriptive qualitative study was designed with free attitude interviews as a data collection technique. The study population was patients with epilepsy and who were attending at Good Shepherd Hospital. Purposeful sampling was the method used in the selection of the sample. A total of 8 epileptic patients attending at the hospital agreed to participate out of a total of 12 who were recruited initially. The free attitude interviews were conducted from October 2008 to April 2009. All interviews were tape-recorded and transcribed; and the transcripts were analyzed using thematic analysis.

RESULTS
The seven themes emerging from this study are as follows: experience of seizures, knowledge, stigma, family relationships, alternative treatment, unhealthy lifestyle, and unemployment. The study showed that patients’ experience were associated with the experience of seizures as a phenomenon which characterized their life. The participants, their families and the community had poor knowledge on epilepsy. The stigma resulted from the community members’ negative beliefs on the illness. The relationship of family members with the epileptic patient varied according to the family members’ opinion about the disease. The participants resorted to alternative treatment according to their belief of being victims of bad fate. Unhealthy lifestyle and unemployment were part of patients’ experience as expressed by the participants in the study.
CONCLUSION
Epilepsy has physical and psychosocial impacts which require a holistic
approach for an appropriate management, but this remains a dream in the DRC. The patients’ experiences were marked by the existence of seizures (which affected their lives negatively resulting in physical injuries), poor knowledge on the condition and the perception of being victims of stigmatization and discrimination.

The role of the health care provider is to educate the patients and the community on the disease and encourage the patients to attend and adhere to their medication for adequate control.

This thesis is concerned with the transformation of prostitutes and other women in the magdalen asylums, the convict refuge, and the certified inebriate reformatory conducted by a roman catholic order of nuns in nineteenth century Britain. Laundry work came to play a central role in the activities expected of the women admitted to these quasi-monastic houses. Its significance is examined in terms of organisational and symbolic correspondences with the structure and ideology of transformative institutions directed to christian conversion. The thesis initially identifies different organisational forms and the ideology revealed by the long-span history of convent refuges. It goes on to consider the problems that tradition posed in the later institutions. The historical account, ordered around a primary sociological concern with transformation, discloses the struggle between the nuns, the secular authorities, and others, to assert differing ideas of religion, morality, and work. The theoretical discussion examines the structure and process of transformation, and the system of classification and control on which it is based. Moving from the notion of Total Institution, the analysis formulates a sociological model of the refuge as a 'Theopticon'. This provides a stable context for a pattern of transformations ranging from the laundry work to the liturgy. The analysis also deals with the role and status of the long-term transformand in pursuit of christian holiness. The theoretical model is then taken back to analyse the major issues raised by the historical account: the persistence of laundry work in the refuges, the nuns' resistance to public inspection and control, and their refusal to pay wages to the penitent women. The historical data is largely derived from primary sources and includes architectural, statistical, and photographic material, as well as documentary evidence.

La mission spécifique decet ordre est de s'occuper de la population dans la misère et tout particulièrement des femmes et des enfants, afin desoulager leur détresse, de leur apporter du soutien et de les encourager à se réinsérer dans la société. Au Royaume-Uni les institutions du Bon Pasteur prennent le nom de couvents Madeleine, se référant ainsi à la figure biblique de Marie-Madeleine pécheresse repentie qui devient une fidèle du Christ. La vocation de ces établissements Madeleine est d'accueillir les prostituées et les mères célibataires. Ils se spécialisent rapidement dans le travail de blanchisserie, tâche éminemment symbolique car ces femmes doivent avant tout se laver de leurs péchés. Sous le règne de Victoria la morale puritaine se durcit, la figure de Madeleine incarne désormais «la catin», la femme de «mauvaise vie». Trois décrets sont alors promulgués afin de freiner l'extension de la prostitution et des maladies sexuellement transmissibles. The specificmission of the order was to take care of the poor, and particularly of women and children, to ease their distress, givethem support and encourage them to make their way back into society. ln the UK, the Good Shepherd institutes were known as Magdalen Asylums, for the biblical figure of Mary Magdalene, a repentant sinner who became a disciple of Christ; the vocation of these Magdalen institutions was to shelter prostitutes and single mothers. They quickly came to specialise in laundry work- a symbolic task, as these women had above all to wash away their sins. During the reign of Queen Victoria, puritanism became more severe, and the figure of Mary Magdalena came to embody the "whore", the "fallen" woman. Three Acts of Parliament were passed to curb the expansion of prostitution and venereal diseases. Il was only in the late 1990s that voices were raised to denounce the abuse and ill-treatment committed in some of these institutions, voices that were soon picked up and amplified in a number of films, and in particular Peter Mullan's The Magdalena Sisters. John 10. Nevertheless, very few studies have dealt with the dynamics of the narrative, its
inner structure and especialy, with its relationship within the contex of the fourth gospel. We
know even less about the links of this text with others in the Old Testament, what is said in
the the Jewish Tradition and other writings betwween the two Testaments. Neediess to say
that a close study of these sources will give an exegetical and hermeneutical focus and a new
perspective to these words of Jesus. This could also be achieved without overlookin different
studies and interpretations os these verses given by worlwide known exegetes.

This thesis outlines the emergence of the construct of relational leadership interventionary behaviour, defined as a leader’s ability to foster an inclusive workgroup climate and enact effective third-party interpersonal interventions through displays of social awareness, proactivity and positive intentions. Across five studies and using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, three emergent dimensions were confirmed and efforts were taken to create a measure of the construct. Based on the results obtained from 40 in-depth interviews and 739 survey respondents, the relational leadership interventionary behaviour scale (RELIB) possessed convergent and discriminant validity, and criterion-related validity was demonstrated through the scale’s relation with workplace ostracism, job satisfaction, organizational citizenship behaviour, safety climate, well-being and task performance. Additionally, evidence supported the scale’s test-retest validity and predictive validity over and above leader-member exchange and perceived leader emotional intelligence. Overall, the measure was found to be both reliable and valid, with important implications for a variety of individual work attitudes and organizational outcomes.

By adding new methods to the base of “The keeping in good health discusses”, we can build a theory to meet the need of modern society.

碩士<br>南華大學<br>非營利事業管理研究所<br>97<br>The Good Shepherd Sisters came to Taiwan in 1987 at the invitation of the Archbishop of Taipei to take charge of “Te-Lian Girls Home,” the first privately-run halfway homes for girls, and established Good Shepherd Social Welfare Services. The purpose of the study was to recognize its change from both service and structural aspects. By applying New Institutionalism and Resource Dependence Theory, this qualitative case study aimed at analyzing the service and structural transition in the organization as its response to the institutional environment from halfway homes for girls to diverse services at present. The study, furthermore, examined the influence on Good Shepherd Sisters and challenges it came to face as its specific orientation of being a religious social welfare organization to commit to service.
Based on Wong and Millette’s framework of organization change (2002), the study analyzed two internal factors in the organization. One is the change of service, including target service groups, techniques and genres; the other is the change of structure, from aspects of staff, departments, organizational cultures and interorganizational relationships to discuss individually. As for the external factors, public policies, social demands, resource network and social work were to discuss how they influenced the organization and how it responded to.
The results of study identified four stages in Good Shepherd Social Welfare Services development: Observation (1987~1991), embryo (1992~1996), developmen (1997~2002), and stabilization (2003~). The phases were evolved by unceasing cases demands in the services. In the phase of observation, three approaches were gradually initiated in shelters for women and children, shelters for teenagers and their outreach, and indigenous people in Hualien and Taitung their outreach. In 2003, three domains were stably developed: Services for youths, residential care for abused women and children, and family social service. Applying overseas experiences in service techniques, the organization constituted its own institutional environment and provided texts and audio media to propagate its orientation in public. Due to the fact that Catholicism, the Good Shepherd Sisters and Good Shepherd Social Welfare Services were all embedded in religious doctrine and service spirit, the organizational culture have influenced not only the orientation of services but members’ recognition of the organization and ones’ human relations. However, along with the growth of the organization, a challenge of how to deliver its service spirit effectively and put into practice in each center came to face the organization to take.
A finding in structural change was the legitimacy of using resources when the organization dealt with different corporations and directorate operation in accordance with regulations in each phase. As in structural management, most approaches copied the pattern of Good Shepherd Sisters abroad so to congregate sufficient power to obtain resources, in which the government was the important supplier. With its structural inertia, the bureaucracy of government also affected the organization structure nevertheless. In addition to the government and Catholic Church which played an important roles among the organizations, the linkage of members of board, executive chief’s involvement in public affairs, and so forth were all the factors reinforcing the organizations’ relationships and fostering the resource sustain. Through the division of phases, the organizational bureaucracy even clarified the duty and responsibility and so did reinforce the resource availability. With clear bureaucracy, it highlighted the importance of leaders in every service center.
The study concluded that not only external factors but leaders and beliefs of staff influenced the organizational change of Good Shepherd Social Welfare Services. Moreover, the factors of change were various and so were the change styles that attributed to the different organizational fields.

碩士<br>東吳大學<br>社會工作學系<br>100<br>With the rapid growth of the elderly population and the weakening of the family care function, the Ministry of the Interior promoted the "Establishment of Community Caring Center Implementation Plan" in 2005 to postpone the time of the elderly entering institutional care centers through the local primary care services.
The subject of this research is "The Church of Good Shepherd", which has provided services for the elderly in the Shihlin District, Taipei City, for fifteen years. The purpose of this research is to explore the context of " The Church of Good Shepherd" in the promotion of community care center, mode of operation and effectiveness of the services. The qualitative approach was employed to capture a holistic understanding of the results. Individual in-depth interviews, archival documents as well as the experiences of the researcher were adopted. Fourteen participants, including two pastors, two volunteers and three clients from “Health Promotion Service” and three volunteers and four clients from the "Meal on Wheels Service", were interviewed.
The results showed that " The Church of Good Shepherd" had six strategies: 1. Bearing pure motivation and rationale; 2. Promoting services based on the needs of the elders; 3. Providing in-depth and localized services; 4. Seeking consensus and support from the Catholics; 5. Emphasizing the profession of social work; 6. Combining various resources. The effectiveness of “Health Promotion Service” included the help from physical, psychological, social and knowledge aspects. The effectiveness of the "Meal on Wheels Service" was to help the elderly on physical, economic and daily life. Help from the psychological, familial, and social dimensions were listed as well.
Finally, several suggestions to “The Church of Good Shepherd”, other organizations and the government are as follows:
First, suggestions to "The Church of Good Shepherd" are: 1.Taking the needs of the individual elderly into consideration as planning "Health Promotion" activities; 2. Improving the food quality of "Meal on Wheels Service"; 3. Enhancing care of the elderly who live alone or are disabled.
Second, suggestions to the organizations which want to get involved in community care are: 1. Do not have unrealistic expectation from the gospel preaching; 2. Do not implement plans due to the consideration of subsidy from the government; 3. Evaluate the needs and combine resources.
Third, suggestions to the government when making policies: 1. Setting law basis and investing more resources in the welfare of the elderly; 2. Encouraging and training professional workers for the elderly; 3. Seeking cooperation from churches; 4. Maintaining flexibility when planning services.

In this study I explore how good mothering is negotiated and constructed between low-income mothers and child and family health (CFH) nurses. Mothers’ interactions with CFH nurses are an almost universal aspect of child-raising. The institutional role of CFH nurses is to support and guide mothers in raising their children within constructions of socially acceptable practice. Thus, the interaction is a site of regulation. Grounded in caring, nurses construct their role within a humanistic approach, focusing on care and empowerment, aiming for a collaborative relationship with mothers. This care (or relational) approach, however, sits in tension with their institutional (regulatory) role, particularly when constructions of good mothering are contested.
Good mother ideologies are a powerful influence on the social regulation of mothers. Medico-scientific discourses, such as those around health and risk, shape the social constructions of mothers and mothering practices. Thus, alternative constructions of mothering – particularly non-middle-class and lay representations of motherhood - are marginalised, with some mothering practices compared unfavourably to elements of dominant good mother ideologies. This has implications for nurse-mother interactions as mothers’ knowledges can be subordinated to the expertise and knowledge of nurses. In this qualitative study I use Foucauldian concepts of power and adopt a constructionist and interpretive approach using observation and interview methods.
The findings reveal firstly that nurses’ professional expertise and authority formed the basis of the relationships. However, mothers and nurses understanding of the role of expertise differed. Nurses were uncomfortable with using their knowledge and authority to direct mothers’ behaviours, as this may undermine the relationship, or claim to an ethic of care. Mothers, however, sought nurses primarily for their expertise rather than a personal relationship, although for some mothers the relationship was a source of interpersonal support. Mothers also resisted nurses’ authority to define good mothering practices by asserting their own definitions of good practices or good mother identity.
Secondly, mothers and nurses implicitly reference good mother ideologies. Good mother identity was negotiated in both uncontested and contested ways. In uncontested negotiations, good mothering was affirmed or accomplished together. Where there was not a shared understanding of good mothering practices, nurses’ authority was resisted as mothers redefined good mothering practices by calling on their own authority and contextualised, experiential and child-specific knowledge. I argue that constructions of good mothering are negotiated within the encounters with both mothers and nurses calling on their own knowledges and expertise to come to a shared understanding of good mothering.

Bibliography: leaves 441-459<br>The shepherd metaphor is a prominent and significant one in the Old Testament.
However, it has shifted from an agrarian context, of shepherd and sheep in the literal
sense, to a socio-political context, of rulers and people in the political sense: a king is a
shepherd to the people. A careful review of the given metaphor raises the question
whether the metaphor should be the basis of the pastoral and leadership models that
are derived from the image of the shepherd, and whether such models can be enriched
by the analysis of the said metaphor as applied to the implementation of the
shepherding responsibility described in the Old Testament.
This research aims to examine various pastoral and leadership models and their use of
the shepherd metaphor in the light of the significance of the said metaphor in the Old
Testament. It utilises rhetorical criticism in consultation with metaphorical theory to
examine the given metaphor used in the models of pastoral and leadership roles and
their relationship with the shepherd metaphor in the New Testament. The objective is
threefold: (1) exploring the use of the shepherd metaphor in the Old Testament; (2)
examining the use of the shepherd metaphor in pastoral and leadership models, which
could include pointing out that some of these models rely heavily on their understanding
of New Testament uses of this metaphor; and (3) comparing the Old Testament and
pastoral/leadership models’ uses of the shepherd metaphor and drawing conclusions
based on this comparison. To achieve that end, the discussion also includes the ancient
Near Eastern literature and deuterocanonical texts. The thesis shows that a careful analysis of the uses of the shepherd metaphor in the Old Testament could enrich the
literature on Christian leadership as well as pastoral models that use this metaphor as

碩士<br>長榮大學<br>社會工作學系碩士班<br>99<br>Due to the insufficient opportunities from the family and school for exploring the world and the lack of a reference schema as a life model, the teenage girls in placement often fail to effectively deal with their life issues with proper and specific thoughts while facing difficulties and setbacks. The basic beliefs of self-efficacy come from daily life, serving as an intervening variable of individuals’ actions and behaviors and an opportunity for the change of behavioral patterns with a significant importance for the development of those teenage girls in placement. This study has two purposes: (1) to examine whether the self-efficacy group work program can enhance the self-efficacy of those teenage girls in placement through the implementation, and (2) to examine the alteration of self-efficacy and the situation of learning transfer of those teenage girls.
By adopting the single-group pretest-posttest design method, this study divided the self-efficacy group into four dimensions of efficacy, including rational analysis, self-management, self-confidence and self-sustaining force. Taking the nine teenage girls placed in the Taitung De-Lei’s Home of the Good Shepherd Sisters Foundation as the research subject, this study had conducted eight group activities from May to July of 2011 in order to explore and analyze the alteration of self-efficacy based on their major experiences, alternative experiences, verbal persuasion, and their physiological and emotional conditions.
According to the research results, this study suggests the following four recommendations:
(1) For the working model of the placement agency:
Self-efficacy is derived from life experiences; thus, the self-efficacy of the girls in placement needs a continuous reconstruction and reform of experience to achieve enhancement. The group life experience in the placement agency is an important source for enhancing the self-efficacy of the girls in placement. Therefore, combining the routine programs of the placement agency, such as social worker interviews, home meetings, and the verbal persuasion of life counselors in the process of life companionship, is the most direct and efficient way to enhance the self-efficacy of the girls in placement.
(2) For the work team of the placement agency:
The work team of the placement agency has the most direct and powerful influence on the alteration of the thinking patterns and behaviors of the girls in placement. However, the self-efficacy of the girls cannot be enhanced only by a one-time group. The work team of the placement agency needs to use consistent and persistent skills such as reflection and feedback on the girls to constantly guide them until they accumulate enough ability to enhance their self-efficacy and then change their behaviors.
(3) For the learning transfer of self-efficacy of the placement agency:
In the process of the formation of self-efficacy, there will be various unstable ups and downs. To correct this situation, repeat experiences are needed to achieve proficiency. If the placement agency can provide the guidance of reflection through the group life experience to have the girls in placement achieve the goal of learning transfer during the reconstruction of experience, and then the girls will obtain an ability of drawing inferences about other cases from one instance from their life experience.
(4) For the relevant researches on the performance assessment of the self-efficacy group work program for enhancing self-efficacy:
(A) Assuredly understand the mission and the development process of the placement agency, and thoroughly communicate with the placement agency about the content of the group work program, the research topic, and the desired method to carry out the program.
(B) The researcher needs to enter the placement agency to obtain a complete understanding of the distinguishing characteristics of the girls and the group dynamics.
(C) The researcher needs to interview with the social workers and life counselors to obtain an objective understanding of the lifestyles, group cultures, and sub-groups of the girls in placement.
(D) The experiment work can be conducted again in three to six months to have a further understanding of the learning transfer of the girls.

The thesis focuses on the Maria Montessori's method of religious education, how it has taken root in christian catechesis. The purpose of the Petra Bandhauer thesis is to analyse its principles, to describe its development and the way of reception by the educationalists. To provide a deeper glimpse into the field of the theological anthropology the author compares some of Montessori's opinions, most criticised, with the views of Wolfhart Pannenberg and Karl Rahner. The last aim is to introduce the way of reflection of Montessori religious education in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and in Godly Play, to examine their practice both in Germany and in the Czech Republic and to highlight the potential they have for the spiritual formation of children in the ecumenical christian society.

para referenciar Jesus e a sua missão de condutor da Igreja. Contudo, a imagem do Bom Pastor
tem as suas raízes um pouco por todos os povos circundantes de Israel e ao longo do Antigo
Testamento. O que é certo é que é em Jesus que ela ganha um novo sentido, pois ele dá a vida
pelo seu rebanho. É nesse sentido que o texto de Jo 10, 11-18 nos interpela a olhar a imagem
do Bom Pastor de forma diferente.<br>Since the beginning of the Church, the figure of de Good Shepherd is one of the most
cherished image to represent Jesus and his mission as leader of the Church. However, the roots
of this figure are found throughout the surrounding peoples of Israel and throughout the Old
Testament. What is certain is that it is in Jesus that it gains a new meaning, as he lays down hir
life for his flock. In this way, the text of Jn 10, 11-18 encourages us to lock at the image of the
Good Shepherd in a different way.

La tesi si articola in tre capitoli, a loro volta seguiti dagli apparati critici: il catalogo, l’inventario delle opere analizzate, le figure e la bibliografia. Nel primo capitolo è svolta la presentazione del soggetto illustrando l’ambito storico-artistico, le caratteristiche tecniche, iconografiche e stilistiche, le varianti tipologiche e i gruppi iconografici in cui si dividono le opere selezionate. Il secondo capitolo è dedicato agli schemi di circolazione, tra cui il commercio del materiale grezzo, la circolazione delle maestranze, la diffusione dei modelli iconografici, e il mercato dei manufatti nel periodo in esame. L’ultimo capitolo verte sugli intenti che caratterizzarono la committenza e le modalità di fruizione dei manufatti; le affinità tra la coeva letteratura missionaria in lingue locali e l’iconografia, i temi sacramentali in relazione società coloniale, e alcuni paradigmi teorici per l’interpretazione delle dinamiche di committenza e fruizione.
