Texto completoHow does the conversion processes of certain western social actors to Dzogchen Buddhism work ? In order to answer such question, this study, carried out using qualitative research method, was conducted among French and Italian groups of two association networks: the International Dzogchen Community and Rigpa. This research is in line with the field of comprehensive sociology and tries to break away from the idea according to which conversion is solely an individual matter or a sudden experience. In fact, this research highlights the relational and procedural dynamics that allow the understanding of this type of conversion. In a context characterized by the westernization of Buddhism and by the transformations of the contemporary religious landscape, Dzogchen conversion results from two factors. First of all, conversion is an outcome of the “missionary” action of certain agents, representatives of an institution born from the routinization of the “master’s” charisma. The second less observed factor is how the conversion of a social actor results also from the adoption of institutional proposals, which leads to the acquisition of a new narrative, a new way of managing emotions and takes into account the involvement of certain rituals. This process of learning happens especially during intersubjective interactions between Dzogchen practitioners amongst themselves as well as between Dzogchen practitioners and representatives of the Tibetan institution. Therefore, through the example of such Dzogchen group we are able to highlight the relational dimension of this kind of religion, which provides the individual who converts with some socialization spaces proper to a communitas

Texto completoThe Breton migration to the American continent is noticeable considering its number and its continuity. According to Le Clech, pioneer and specialist of the Breton migration, 55 000 Breton people have emigrated to the USA and 45 000 to Canada between 1880 and 1970. Some studies were carried out in France and Canada, by historians, which described the repeated arrivals of Breton people in North America, the reasons or factors for their migration, the places for their settlement and their social and professional reintegration. Nevertheless, these studies are more focused on the migration to the USA, while they are nearly the same number of Breton migrants in Canada. The originality of my research lies in the chosen field of observation, which is the province of Quebec, Canada. Lndeed, the French Canadian who live there, as called today Quebecois, are a minority group who was subjected similare pressure toward their language and culture as the Breton people. Consequently, this field appeared to be pertinent to analyse the relations established between the migrants and this minority group. On the other hand, what interested me in the study of the migration of the Bretons was the discovery of the way their sentiment to belonging to the regional Breton culture, in other word their “Bretonness”, was taken from the territory of origin and relocated in the destination country. I consider therefore the migration as an experimental situation, through which I tried to analyse how a cultural belonging is unbuilt, rebuilt or built. In other words, why and how some Breton migrants in Quebec express, promote, or even recreate their cultural belonging 6000 km far from their territory of birth territory? This research allowed me to throw light of course the different expressions of cultrural belonging in a situation of geographical mobility. It also allowed me to contribute to the knowledge and the understanding of the belonging to other cultural communities and therefore to participate in enriching theknowledge in the field anthropology and ethnology of migrations

Texto completoThe legal framework of the groups companies has long been a subject which divides the doctrine keeping in mind that is not resolved in a uniform manner by legislators. The idea of establishing a special group law was initiated in Gemrany in the 1960s, and continues .to be a subject to debate even today in several countries. ln Tunisia, specifically, the issue was resolved without major debates and in a circumstantial manner through the introduction of an appropriate regulatory framework. In this context, his thesis aims to analyze the ways in which the Tunisian lav,I was able to organize the phenomenon of groups of companies and protect the stakeholder's interests. This research was backed up by the analysis of the emergence of the concept of groups in Tunisian law, as well as its legal framework in the light of French law to allow deepen knowledge an understanding of it

Texto completoThis dissertation examines the cohesion of Latino groups in American society. It analyses the influence of intra-community relations on the integration of Latinos in American society and deconstructs the representation of Latino communities perceived as a monolithic group allowing to determine to what extent these relationships lead to different assimilation paths. In particular, it shows the differential impact of the relationships between different Latino communities on their integration into American society and investigates the influence of the context of reception on the socio-economic integration of different Latino groups, policies and practices, and, more generally, their political clout. The choice of cities as diverse as Miami, Los Angeles and Boston highlights the importance of the urban context on the formation of relationships between the different Latino groups, and its influence on their integration into American society, as measured by the group strategies that Latinos adopt and their political participation. This analysis is crucial to the understanding of the complex interactions between Latino groups whose relationships are a major challenge, as they allow to anticipate the future of ethnic relations in the United States. This perspective opens to a broader sociological context which may help better comprehend the political and economic issues that the United States will confront in topics such as integration, immigration and representation in the coming decades

Texto completoThe law of 24 july 1966 punishes social leaders that, with bad faith, will affect goods, credit powers, or voices of the company to a "use that they knew opposite to the interest of the former, for personal purposes or to favor an other company or enterprise in which they were concerned". The legislator holds no account of the hypothesis where an act is accomplished contrarily to the immediate interest of a company, in the interest of an other company of the same group. To fill this legislative gap, the jurisprudence has created a case law allowing to adapt the crime of social goods abuse to groups of companies. So it considers that facts punishable in the hypothesis of an isolated company are justified in the presence a real groups of companies, characterized by a common interest. The exoneration is granted only if sacrifices imposed on a company in the interest of the group reply to demands of counterpart, balance and non excessiveness. This pragmatism is justified, because in the presence an operation fullfilling different requirements, the crime is not constituted neither in its material element, nor in its moral element in positive law, one observes that the exoneration of the crime is made exceptionally, this derogatory solution being considered as a simple benevolence with regard to groups of companies. By acting in the interest of the group, social leaders are not under cover as far as a penal trial is concerned. Indeed, the jurisprudence is not uniform and its analysis reveals divergences

Texto completoWith different historical contexts and migration temporalities, France and the region of Catalogna in Spain apply relatively opposing policies concerning specificities. This PhD thesis focuses more specifically on the effects of the ethno-racialization of the European populations on the relations between people in mixed medium sized cities. In the two studied countries, we can witness a certain homogenization in the everyday practice of ethnicity of the inhabitants. The ethno-racialization contributes to the reconfiguration the urban spaces of medium-size cities, in particular through the establishment of minority centralities. But the urban areas speed up the intertwining of ethnic and racializing logics. These are spaces of self-segregation, invested by population from the Maghreb and it materializes a visible border between the groups within the city. Also subject to stigmatization and bypasses, the minority centralities have become places of ethnoracial tensions in the city. This creates urban insecurities which favours the process of ethno-racial differentiation as well as assimilating them to minorities. The stereotypes about people of Maghrebian origins are thus created through urban experience, History and the national scope, and the more global context : we can witness the common adoption of the use of ethno-racial markers, behind the rhetoric of civilizations. The fear of ethnoracial differences then justifies the normalization and banalization of racism and to escape these designations, the minorities use a numbers of strategies to surpass themselves and to resist the stigmatization

Texto completoThe aim of this thesis was to study test reactions regarding North African minority group and French majority group, as job seekers. We analysed the relationship among attitudinal variables as test-taking motivation, self-efficacy, justice perceptions and test performance. Then, we proposed a chrono?causal model on applicant test reactions. In this model, we measured test reactions at different times: before and after applicants passing the tests. Results indicated that the relationship between ethnic group membership and test performance id fully mediated by global justice perceptions, providing evidence that some portion of the minority-majority group differences in test performance may be explained through differences in justice perceptions. We then tested two potential ways influencing justice perceptions during personnel selection. We analysed the impact of anonymous procedures and the role of test information (concerning the selection procedures) on justice perceptions. On practical level, these studies could be useful in order to improve test performance during the selection procedures. In this way, a better test performance could enhance the possibility regarding the integration of minority population into the job market

Texto completoThis thesis proposes a subjective interpretation model to interpret the institutionalization process of minority social movements. It analyses the development of the opposing relationships between, on one hand, the associations that pretend to mobilize and represent the interest of a given minority, and, on the other hand, traditional members of the polity. It presents a set of eight complementary strategic patterns explaining the actors' calculations and of the foreseeable outcome of their conflict. The main conclusion of the thesis is that institutionalization of minority movements generally can only be acquired against significant compromises. This thesis is a first step toward a theory of political harnessing

Texto completoEven though child maltreatment affects all cultural groups in the contemporary society, statistics from youth protection services reveal that children from certain minority cultural groups are over-represented compared to the group’s relative importance in the general population. Although bias present in the decision to report these children might explain this phenomenon, empirical studies currently available do not confirm this explanation, or even provide a general understanding of the decision-making process involved. The goal of this qualitative study is to understand the ways in which school personnel decides to report situations of child maltreatment to the youth protection services, in particular when the situations concern children from cultural minority groups. Twenty-one members of the teaching and non-teaching personnel of nine elementary schools took part in semi-structured individual interviews. They mentioned 25 instances of situations involving children where there were indications of physical abuse or neglect. The children concerned were from different minority cultural groups (n = 13) and also from the cultural majority (n = 12). These 25 situations underwent a wide-ranging pragmatic analysis to examine similarities and differences. Results describe two processes before the decision itself: recognizing the presence of maltreatment indicators, and judging whether the situation must be reported to youth protection services. Many forms of uncertainty that occur as a result of situational, individual and organizational factors, characterize these processes. Furthermore, when it comes to situations involving children from cultural minority groups, additional forms of uncertainty are shown in the need to find and prove the validity of the explanations attributable to cultural differences. In the end, the findings reveal various tendencies that could lead not only to the decision to report the situations involving these children, but equally to the decision not to report them. This study shows that those persons, who are legally required to report child maltreatment to the youth protection services, need better decision-making tools, especially when it comes to dealing with cultural differences.
Monge, Priscilla. "Les minorités parlementaires sous la Cinquième République". Thesis, Aix-Marseille, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013AIXM1041.
Texto completoThe Fifth Republic in 1958 built its institutional and functional equilibriums in reaction to the previous Republics. It first rejected the positive value that is conflict for a democracy. With the emergence of the “fait majoritaire” in 1962, the majority evolved from a quantitative notion to an institutional notion. It became a structure of homogenous decision making devoted to the Government. Thought on the balance of powers was then renewed. While the so-called modern theory of separation of powers suggests that the criterion for a modern democracy is the check on Government action by the opposition, we propose a different analysis: the balance of powers lies in the function of contradiction assumed by the parliamentary minorities. This role of counter-power combines a negative dimension of limitation of power, the opposition function, and a positive dimension of added value to political decision making, the legislative complementary function. This thesis offers a new perspective on the decision making process in a pluralist democracy

Texto completoThis thesis is devoted to studying the evolution of the place of female artists with Miao, Mongolian and Uygur origins in the Chinese artistic field 1950-2010. The central theme is to demonstrate how social changes have changed the place of women, and more specifically, how the place of women has been redefined in an identity discourse. If in the years 1960-1980, the art works dealing with the collectivist ideology and the representation of the ‘iron woman’ occupied a primordial place, in the years 1981-2000, the female artists describe the real situation of the women and put the focus on the question of the identity of modern women and the relations between women and men. They seek to master the different forms of ethnic artistic expression. Since 2001, in order to preserve ethnic cultures facing the globalization, the female artists are trying to interpret the depth of ethnic culture in their art works. It is towards traditions, such as historical memory, mythologies, songs and dances, that the female artists with ethnic minority origins are looking for their cultural roots. This research is based at the same time on the analysis of the socio-cultural situation of female artists with minority origins, the analysis of the construction of the feminine identity and the analysis of the particularities of the expression of female artists because of their ethnicity
Maillard-Bjedov, Tjaša. "Three essays in public economics : fiscal decentralization, coordination and secessions". Thesis, Lyon 2, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015LYO22005.
Texto completoThis PhD thesis falls within the fields of public finance and public choice. It studies the following issues: ideological polarization, decentralization and conflict. It consists of three chapters can be read independently. In the first chapter the focus is on the importance of ideological polarization between but also within political parties on the level and composition of cantonal public spending. The analysis is on Swiss cantonal parliaments and is based on the use and econometric treatment of a very rich database. We made two contributions to the literature on the impact of political fragmentation on public spending. First, we showed that ideological dispersion within political parties is associated with higher public spending while the dispersion between political parties is associated with less public spending. This finding implies that the mode of organization and discipline within political parties are both important. This result is particularly interesting given that previous literature has completely abstracted from ideological dispersion within political parties. Lastly, we showed that ideological dispersion between and within political parties is mainly relevant for current expenditures. The second chapter focuses on the conflict of objectives that may exist between economic agents in a two-stage game with asymmetric payoffs. The literature showed that coordination failures are frequent in one-stage games and that communication can help individuals coordinate with the use of take turn strategies that allow for a reduction in the payoffs’ inequality in the long run. Our contribution was to study whether communication has the same capacity in a two-stage game where the subgame perfect Nash equilibrium requires both players to make opposite choices at both stages of the game and accept unequal payoffs. Our results show that coordination failures occur half of the time and that 18% of the pairs use the take turn strategy. Communication significantly increases coordination on the subgame perfect Nash equi librium because it increases the ability of subjects to initiate a take turn strategy and to maintain it. Thus, communication allows subjects to establish a long-term strategy that increases efficiency and reduces payments differences, induced by the asymmetry in payoffs, by exchanging their relative positions in a fair way. Our results show that communication can solve coordination conflicts, even in more complex situations than in one-stage games usually studied until now. The last chapter focuses on a particular type of conflict: political secessions. Specifically, it addresses the link between secessions, decentralization and group identity. We aim at determining, by means of a laboratory experiment, if decentralizing the provision of public goods reduces the likelihood of secession. We emphasize the importance of local identity. Our experimental design, obviously, do not reproduce all the trade-offs that separatist movements face in the real world. It allows, however, capturing at least two key forces that drive these movements: the proximity to public goods that reduces the phenomena of free-riding and brings public goods closer to citizens’ preferences and the importance of local identities. Our results indicate that the Decentralization treatment increases contributions to local public goods and decreases the likelihood of secessions also when identity is made more salient. If fact, reinforcing local group identity increases the likelihood of secession only when local group members are cooperators
