Resumen
This paper pays close attention to the global polynomial dissipativity (GPD) for proportional delayed BAM neural networks (PDBAMNNs). The global exponential dissipativity (GED) and the global dissipativity (GD) are also talked about. Under the help of novel Lyapunov functionals and a generalized Halanay inequality, a set of dissipative criteria for such systems are led out, together with the global polynomial attracting set (GPAS) and the global attracting set (GAS). Further, the relationship among GPD, GED and GD is unveiled. Finally, a proposed theoretical condition is validated through a simulation experiment.

Resumen
Traditional methods for detection and mapping of quantitative trait loci (QTL) in dairy cattle populations are usually based on daughter design (DD) or granddaughter design (GDD). Although these designs are well established and usually successful in detecting QTL, they consider sire families independently of each other, thereby ignoring relationships among other animals in the population and consequently, reducing the power of QTL detection. In this study we compared a traditional GDD with a general pedigree design (GPD) and assessed the precision and power of both methods for detecting and locating QTL in a simulated complex pedigree. QTL analyses were performed under the variance component model containing a random QTL and a random polygenic effect. The covariance matrix of the polygenic effect was a standard additive relationship matrix. The (co)variance matrix of the random QTL effect contained probabilities that QTL alleles shared by two individuals were identical by descent (IBD). In the GDD analysis, IBD probabilities were calculated using sires’ and daughters’ marker genotypes. In the GPD analysis, IBD probabilities were obtained using a deterministic approach. The estimation of QTL position and variance components was conducted using REML algorithm. Although both methods were able to locate the region of the QTL properly, the GPD method showed better precision of QTL position estimates in most cases and significantly higher power than the GDD method.

Resumen
AbstractPrimers for amplification and sequencing of partial glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (gpd) gene were designed for lichenized fungi. The 5’ gpd primer is most probably fungal specific, since a BLAST search in GenBank found identical sequences only from ascomycetous taxa, whereas the 3’ gpd primer was more universal. Utility of the gpd primers and previously designed beta-tubulin primers was tested in nine lichen taxa. Both the gpd and beta-tubulin primer pairs amplified in most of the taxa examined: the gpd primers generated a c. 1100 nucleotide fragment, whereas the PCR product obtained from the beta-tubulin primers was c. 900 nucleotides long. The gpd amplification products of Cladonia arbuscula and C. rangiferina were sequenced and both were found to contain three introns, the length of which varied between 49 to 83 nucleotides. To examine the applicability of gpd sequences in resolving relationships within Ascomycota, trees were calculated from 22 fungal gpd sequences obtained from GenBank together with the two Cladonia sequences using parsimony jackknifing. The gpd tree was compared with the SSU rDNA tree of the respective species (or genera). A similar analysis of the beta-tubulin gene was not performed, because only a few beta-tublin sequences from the same taxa were available in GenBank. The gpd tree was well resolved but in conflict with the SSU rDNA tree. In contrast to the SSU rDNA tree, the gpd tree did not support the monophyly of the Ascomycota. Analysis of the combined data set produced a tree very similar to that of the SSU rDNA data. However, the relationship of Lecanorales to the other orders remained unresolved. Even though gpd and beta-tubulin are highly conserved proteins, the third codon positions and introns are variable and both genes have the potential for inferring phylogenetic relationships at the lower taxonomic levels in the lichenized fungi. The two genes may be useful even below species level, depending on the species investigated.

Resumen
We showed that antimicrobial polypeptides, when translated as gene fusions to the bacteriophage lambda capsid decoration protein gpD, formed highly toxic molecules within E. coli, suggesting that they can retain their antimicrobial activity conformation when fused to gpD. These include gpD-fusions to human and porcine cathelicidins LL37 and PR39, β-defensins HBD3 and DEFB126-Δ (deleted for its many COOH-terminal glycosylation sites), and α-defensin HD5. Antimicrobial toxicity was only observed when the peptides were displayed from the COOH-terminal, and not the NH2-terminal end, of gpD. This suggests that COOH-terminal displayed polypeptides of gpD-fusions can more readily form an active-state conformation than when they are displayed from the NH2-terminal end of gpD. The high toxicity of the COOH-displayed gpD-defensins suggests either that the fused defensin peptides can be oxidized, forming three correct intramolecular disulfide bonds within the cytosol of bacterial cells, or that the versions without disulfide bonds are highly toxigenic. We showed the high efficiency of displaying single epitope 17 amino-acid fusions to gpD on LDP (lambda display particles), even when the gpD-fusion protein was toxic. The efficient formation of high display density LDP, displaying a single disease specific epitope (DSE), suggests the utility of LDP-DSE constructs for use as single epitope vaccines (SEV).

Resumen
Purpose – The concept of “green product development (GPD)” has been emerged as a global phenomenon. The main objective of GPD is to minimize the impact of industrial growth on the environment across the globe. Many researchers have actively contributed articles for developing GPD, but none of them provide direction and guidance for an effective implementation of GPD in organizations. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to identify a comprehensive list of the principles, practices, tools and techniques, and integrate them to develop and propose a new framework for GPD for effective implementation in organizations. Design/methodology/approach – The present study has examined 37 frameworks published from 1991 to 2012 in selected 23 peer reviewed journals. The study has also identified pillars of the framework with the help of comparative analysis performed on the selected GPD frameworks. The study has formed a team to identify critical elements in the field of GPD. The team consisted academicians, practitioner and consultant. Findings – The findings of the present paper bring out extremely incoherent utilization of elements for implementing GPD. The study has identified 80 unique elements and 11 pillars to propose a comprehensive conceptual framework in the field of GPD with the help of comparative analysis. Also, the present study analysis of selected research articles founds that future research in GPD should be directed towards finding a coherent set of elements that may be further employed to formulate and execution of frameworks. To achieve the required task, the study has proposed a conceptual comprehensive framework in the field of GPD with the help of extensive literature survey and comparative analysis. Originality/value – The study has conducted extensive literature survey using various online portals and sources. It has not only performed critical review on existing sample of the frameworks but also raised the issue of what is really a framework and how to identify the frameworks from the literature. The study also provides guidelines to the future researchers to propose new frameworks in the field of GPD.

Resumen
A recently designed gait phase detection (GPD) system, with the ability to detect all seven phases of gait in healthy adults, was modified for GPD in children with cerebral palsy (CP). A shank-attached gyroscope sent angular velocity to a rule-based algorithm in LabVIEW to identify the distinct characteristics of the signal. Seven typically developing children (TD) and five children with CP were asked to walk on treadmill at their self-selected speed while using this system. Using only shank angular velocity, all seven phases of gait (Loading Response, Mid-Stance, Terminal Stance, Pre-Swing, Initial Swing, Mid-Swing and Terminal Swing) were reliably detected in real time. System performance was validated against two established GPD methods: (1) force-sensing resistors (GPD-FSR) (for typically developing children) and (2) motion capture (GPD-MoCap) (for both typically developing children and children with CP). The system detected over 99% of the phases identified by GPD-FSR and GPD-MoCap. Absolute values of average gait phase onset detection deviations relative to GPD-MoCap were less than 100 ms for both TD children and children with CP. The newly designed system, with minimized sensor setup and low processing burden, is cosmetic and economical, making it a viable solution for real-time stand-alone and portable applications such as triggering functional electrical stimulation (FES) in rehabilitation systems. This paper verifies the applicability of the GPD system to identify specific gait events for triggering FES to enhance gait in children with CP.

Resumen
This paper presents MCE/GPD using GPD that is known as a highly effective discriminative learning method. MCE/GPD is an excellent recognition method that is applicable especially to speech recognition, since it excels in recognizing performance and can be used to deal with variable-length vectors. MCE/GPD involves a problem of calculation resulting from c omplicated algorithms making it impractical. In this paper, we propose a learning method to increase speed at learning based on a hierarchical model. We used a hierarchical neural network to evaluate the method’s performance.

Resumen
Phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) is an intracellular enzyme specifically degrading cAMP, a second messenger exerting inhibitory effects on many inflammatory cells. To investigate whether GPD-1116 (a PDE4 inhibitor) prevents murine lungs from developing cigarette smoke-induced emphysema, the senescence-accelerated mouse (SAM) P1 strain was exposed to either fresh air or cigarette smoke for 8 wk with or without oral administration of GPD-1116. We confirmed the development of smoke-induced emphysema in SAMP1 [air vs. smoke (means ± SE); the mean linear intercepts (MLI), 52.9 ± 0.8 vs. 68.4 ± 4.2 μm, P < 0.05, and destructive index (DI), 4.5% ± 1.3% vs. 16.0% ± 0.4%, P < 0.01]. Emphysema was markedly attenuated by GPD-1116 (MLI = 57.0 ± 1.4 μm, P < 0.05; DI = 8.2% ± 0.6%, P < 0.01) compared with smoke-exposed SAMP1 without GPD-1116. Smoke-induced apoptosis of lung cells were also reduced by administration of GPD-1116. Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-12 activity in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) was increased by smoke exposure (air vs. smoke, 4.1 ± 1.1 vs. 40.5 ± 16.2 area/μg protein; P < 0.05), but GPD-1116 significantly decreased MMP-12 activity in smoke-exposed mice (5.3 ± 2.1 area/μg protein). However, VEGF content in lung tissues and BALF decreased after smoke exposure, and the decrease was not markedly restored by oral administration of GPD-1116. Our study suggests that GPD-1116 attenuates smoke-induced emphysema by inhibiting the increase of smoke-induced MMP-12 activity and protecting lung cells from apoptosis, but is not likely to alleviate cigarette smoke-induced decrease of VEGF in SAMP1 lungs.

Resumen
The development of agricultural economy depends to a large extent on the drought. It is necessary to accurately analyze the current drought risk in order to formulate a more reliable drought risk management strategy and reduce the impact of disasters on the development of the agricultural economy. In order to improve the level of drought risk measurement, this paper selects VaR as the measurement tool, and proposes a mixed distribution model research. Use this model to fit the distribution of drought loss rate, and measure the drought risk by estimating VaR. Among them, the mixed distribution model is mainly composed of two parts, namely GPD and conventional distribution. The former is used to characterize the risk tail. Considering the difficulty of selecting the GPD distribution threshold, this paper introduces the Bayes calculation method to optimize, forming a Bayes hybrid model, including Norm-GDP model and Gamma-GPD model. The application results show that the fitting results generated by the Norm-GDP model application have a better distribution of drought loss rates, and the VaR estimation results are more reliable. Taking 10-year, 20-year, and 100-year disasters as examples, the estimated drought loss rate is 9.46%, 11.05%, and 30.22%. The generation of these metric values can provide a reference for my country’s agricultural drought risk management.

The Swedish State Road Administration has since 1992 procured operations and maintenance of state roads on the open market. The procurement has been termed “Grundpaket Drift”, GPD, and comprises mostly operational measures for road networks. The clients of GPD, SRA regions, have gradually changed the original documentation in order to adapt it to local conditions. This process has gradually led to that some parts of the documentation are creating problems for contractors interested in procuring jobs. This thesis tries to analyze GPD and clarify the differences that may be essential to the procurement process and to facilitate future joint working projects and processing descriptions.

Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) are generalized objects describing nucleon structure. GPDs correlate the spatial and the momentum distributions of partons inside the nucleon. Therefore, they provide richer information about the nucleon structure than the well-known form factors and parton distribution functions. GPDs are accessible via exclusive reactions, where all particles in the final state are identifed. Deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) and deeply virtual neutral pion production (DVMP) are discussed. The document is divided into four chapters: physics introduction, data analysis, development of a detector, and a short preview of a new scintillator material. With an 11 GeV electron beam and a proton target at Je_erson Lab, a precise DVCS and DVMP experiment in the valence quark region was performed. The data analysis and preliminary results of this experiment are presented in the second chapter. An upcoming experiment will give more constraints on the extraction of GPDs. For this new experiment, a neutral particle spectrometer (NPS) is under construction. In the third chapter, simulation studies and hardware developments for the NPS calorimeter are presented. Finally, characterizations of a new glass scintillator are shortly discussed. This material, which is in an early stage of development, is one of the candidates for the calorimeters of a future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC)

Otis, Jeffrey Scott. "Metabolic profile of myosin heavy chain-based fiber types in the rat soleus after spinal cord transection". Thesis, Virginia Tech, 2000. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/35669.

Texto completo
Resumen

Fully differentiated muscle fibers can undergo considerable phenotypic changes in order to adjust to changing conditions of the physiological environment. It is generally accepted that the electrical impulses a muscle receives play a role in modulating the quantities of metabolic proteins (glycolytic and oxidative enzymes) and types of contractile proteins (myosin heavy chain, MHC) that are expressed. Research has shown that decreased neuromuscular activation following spinal cord transection (ST) results in adaptations in the physiological characteristics of paralyzed muscles, including atrophy and an accompanying loss of force production, and transformations of contractile and metabolic proteins toward a more fatigable state. However, it remains unclear whether or not a strong interdependence of energy metabolism and MHC isoform composition persists. Therefore, the goal of this study was to identify and quantify relative myosin heavy chain (MHC) isoform expression and metabolic enzyme profile adaptations at multiple time points (1, 3 and 6 months) in soleus fibers of rats following spinal cord transection (ST).

To accomplish this, female Sprague-Dawley rats (~150 g, n = 15) were subjected to complete transection of the spinal cord at a mid-thoracic level. Age and weight-matched, non-operated rats served as controls (n = 15). The soleus was processed for quantitative single fiber histochemical analyses for succinate dehydrogenase (SDH, oxidative marker) and a-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase (GPD, glycolytic marker) activities (~30 fibers/muscle) and immunohistochemical analysis for MHC isoform composition. The total number of soleus fibers analyzed was ~900.

Oxidative capacity was increased in muscle fibers at all time points after ST. Specifically, SDH activity was significantly higher than controls by 142, 127 and 206% at 1, 3 and 6 months post-ST, respectively. ISDH, a measure of total oxidative power, also increased in muscle fibers at all time points after ST. For example, 6 months after ST ISDH activity was 93% higher than controls (91.8-3.8 vs. 47.6-0.9 OD x 10-3, respectively).

Glycolytic capacity peaked one month after ST. Thereafter, glycolytic capacity of all fibers steadily declined. For example, by 6 months, GPD activity had declined by 76% compared to 1 month GPD activities (3.3-0.2 vs. 13.7-1.4 OD x 10-3, respectively). These data suggest that the increases in glycolytic capacity are transient as fibers transition toward a faster MHC phenotype and then return towards control levels as fibers of a given type become phenotypically stable.

The GPD/SDH ratio, an index of metabolic substrate utilization, peaked at one month after ST (394-41) and significantly decreased at 3 months (224-10) and at 6 months (95-7) after ST. Therefore, a shift occurred such that a greater dependence on oxidative metabolism was apparent.

These data suggest that the oxidative capacities of soleus muscle fibers are not compromised after ST. In fact, as the fibers transitioned toward faster MHC isoforms, the GPD/SDH ratio was maintained or decreased, suggesting a reliance on oxidative metabolism regardless of MHC isoform composition. This might imply a dissociation between the contractile and metabolic characteristics of paralyzed soleus muscle fibers. However, these data are consistent with previous data and suggest that the increased fatigability observed after chronic reductions in neuromuscular activity are not due to compromised capacities for ATP synthesis.

Resumen
This thesis reviewed various heavy tailed distributions and Extreme Value Theory (EVT) to estimate the catastrophic losses simulated from Florida Public Hurricane Loss Projection Model (FPHLPM). We have compared risk measures such as Probable Maximum Loss (PML) and Tail Value at Risk (TVaR) of the selected distributions with empirical estimation to capture the characteristics of the loss data as well as its tail distribution. Generalized Pareto Distribution (GPD) is the main focus for modeling the tail losses in this application. We found that the hurricane loss data generated from FPHLPM were consistent with historical losses and were not as heavy as expected. The tail of the stochastic annual maximum losses can be explained by an exponential distribution. This thesis also touched on the philosophical implication of small probability, high impact events such as Black Swan and discussed the limitations of quantifying catastrophic losses for future inference using statistical methods.

Resumen
The volatility model approach to forecasting Value at Risk is complemented with modelling of Expected Shortfalls using an extreme value approach. Using three models from the GARCH family (GARCH, EGARCH and GJR-GARCH) and assuming two conditional distributions, normal Gaussian and Student t’s distribution, to make predictions of VaR, the forecasts are used as a threshold for assigning losses to the distribution tail. The Expected Shortfalls are estimated assuming that the violations of VaR follow the Generalized Pareto distribution, and the estimates are evaluated. The results indicate that the most efficient model for making predictions of VaR is the asymmetric GJR-GARCH, and that assuming the t distribution generates conservative forecasts. In conclusion there is evidence that the commodities are characterized by asymmetry and conditional normality. Since no comparison is made, the EVT approach can not be deemed to be either superior or inferior to standard approaches to Expected Shortfall modeling, although the data intensity of the method suggest that a standard approach may be preferable.

Velocity field in the McMurdo shear zone from annual ground penetrating radar imaging and crevasse matching. Engineer Research and Development Center (U.S.), diciembre de 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.21079/11681/42623.

Texto completo
Resumen
The McMurdo shear zone (MSZ) is strip of heavily crevassed ice oriented in the south-north direction and moving northward. Previous airborne surveys revealed a chaotic crevasse structure superimposed on a set of expected crevasse orientations at 45 degrees to the south-north flow (due to shear stress mechanisms). The dynamics that produced this chaotic structure are poorly understood. Our purpose is to present our field methodology and provide field data that will enable validation of models of the MSZ evolution, and here, we present a method for deriving a local velocity field from ground penetrating radar (GPR) data towards that end. Maps of near-surface crevasses were derived from two annual GPR surveys of a 28 km² region of the MSZ using Eulerian sampling. Our robot-towed and GPS navigated GPR enabled a dense survey grid, with transects of the shear zone at 50 m spacing. Each survey comprised multiple crossings of long (> 1 km) crevasses that appear in echelon on the western and eastern boundaries of the shear zone, as well as two or more crossings of shorter crevasses in the more chaotic zone between the western and eastern boundaries. From these maps, we derived a local velocity field based on the year-to-year movement of the same crevasses. Our velocity field varies significantly from fields previously established using remote sensing and provides more detail than one concurrently derived from a 29-station GPS network. Rather than a simple velocity gradient expected for crevasses oriented approximately 45 degrees to flow direction, we find constant velocity contours oriented diagonally across the shear zone with a wavy fine structure. Although our survey is based on near-surface crevasses, similar crevassing found in marine ice at 160 m depth leads us to conclude that this surface velocity field may hold through the body of meteoric and marine ice. Our success with robot-towed GPR with GPS navigation suggests we may greatly increase our survey areas.

Texto completo
Resumen
The National Science Foundation operates stations on the ice sheets of Antarctica and Greenland to investigate Earth’s climate history, life in extreme environments, and the evolution of the cosmos. Understandably, logistics costs predominate budgets due to the remote locations and harsh environments involved. Currently, manual ground-penetrating radar (GPR) surveys must preceed vehicle travel across polar ice sheets to detect subsurface crevasses or other voids. This exposes the crew to the risks of undetected hazards. We have developed an autonomous rover, Yeti, specifically to conduct GPR surveys across polar ice sheets. It is a simple four-wheel-drive, battery-powered vehicle that executes autonomous surveys via GPS waypoint following. We describe here three recent Yeti deployments, two in Antarctica and one in Greenland. Our key objective was to demonstrate the operational value of a rover to locate subsurface hazards. Yeti operated reliably at −30 ◦C, and it has good oversnow mobility and adequate GPS accuracy for waypoint-following and hazard georeferencing. It has acquired data on hundreds of crevasse encounters to improve our understanding of heavily crevassed traverse routes and to develop automated crevasse-detection algorithms. Importantly, it helped to locate a previously undetected buried building at the South Pole. Yeti can improve safety by decoupling survey personnel from the consequences of undetected hazards. It also enables higher-quality systematic surveys to improve hazard-detection probabilities, increase assessment confidence, and build datasets to understand the evolution of these regions. Yeti has demonstrated that autonomous vehicles have great potential to improve the safety and efficiency of polar logistics.
