Resumen
Abstract The secondary particles from the spallation target of the China Spallation Neutron Source are mainly gammas and neutrons, which are related to the incident proton. The reconstruction of the proton beam spot could be implemented based on the distribution of the positions of secondary gammas or neutrons. The methods of pinhole imaging and Compton imaging are developed by measuring the position distribution of gammas based on the pixelated detector. The secondary gammas could be detected by the pixelated gamma detector directly. The neutron can be identified by detecting the characteristic (478 keV) γ-rays from the 10B(n, α) reactions. In order to detect secondary neutrons, a layer of 10B converter is added before the pixelated gamma detector. The pixelated gamma detector is sensitive to the characteristic (478 keV) γ-rays and then the neutron imaging could be achieved based on measuring the position distribution of the characteristic (478 keV) γ-rays.

Resumen
In this work, we have focused on results of measurements of the hydrogen line 2223 keV and compared them with the results of Geant4 simulations. The paraffin containing hydrogen was irradiated by neutrons produced by the weak AmBe source. Produced gammas were measured with the germanium detector. The experimental setup was placed inside a carbon chamber which provided the shielding from the external neutrons. The measurements were performed for different amounts of paraffin. The processes playing a role in the description of our measurements are transport and moderation of neutrons, production of gamma rays in neutron-hydrogen interactions, transport and detection of gamma rays. It has been shown that the correctly carried out Monte Carlo simulations reproduced the measured values of the intensity of the observed gamma line 2223 keV from the neutron capture on hydrogen. The absorption of gamma rays is also described correctly. This has been shown in comparing the measurements of gamma line 322 keV from [Formula: see text]Pb with the simulations.

Resumen
The visualization of drugs is essential for cancer treatment. Although several methods for visualizing drugs have been proposed, a versatile method that can be easily applied to various drugs has not yet been established. Therefore, we propose “activation imaging,” in which a drug is irradiated with thermal neutrons and becomes radioactive, enabling visualization using emitted x rays and/or gamma rays. Activation imaging does not require the conjugation of specific tracers with drugs. Therefore, it can be easily applied to a variety of drugs, drug carriers (e.g., metal nanoparticles), and contrast agents. In this study, neutron activation, gamma-ray spectroscopy, and imaging of drug carriers, anticancer drug, and contrast agents were performed. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and platinum nanoparticles were used as drug carriers, cisplatin was used as an anticancer drug, and gadoteridol and iohexol were used as contrast agents. As a neutron source, the RIKEN accelerator-driven compact neutron source II (RANS-II) was utilized. The imaging was performed using a hybrid Compton camera (HCC). The HCC can visualize x rays and gamma rays ranging from a few keV to nearly 1 MeV, which enables the imaging of various x rays and gamma rays emitted from the activated drugs. As a result, the gamma-ray spectra indicated the generation of radioisotopes through neutron irradiation, and AuNPs and iohexol were visualized.

Resumen
This thesis is concerned with the detection of very high energy (VHE) 7-rays from microquasars, a recently discovered subclass of x-ray binaries that display jets of relativistic particles. A general introduction to ground based 7-ray astronomy is presented, which discusses the production of Cherenkov radiation and how VHE 7-rays are detected via extended air showers in the atmosphere. The important processes involved in the production and absorption of 7-rays are detailed, before the design of The High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.) Phase I telescope array, based in Namibia, is briefly described. There follows a general section on microquasars, describing x-ray binaries and the morphological analogy between microquasars and active galactic nuclei (AGN). Some important properties of jets are detailed before the spectral states of x-ray binaries and their importance in relation to jets are discussed. A synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) model designed for AGN is reviewed in some detail and is applied to the blazar 3C 279, showing a good fit to data. This SSC model is then applied to the microquasars GRS 1915+105, V4641 Sgr and GX 339-4 using a scale-invariant method to investigate if the jets from microquasars can be considered simply as scaled down AGN jets. Conclusions are drawn from the results. Data taken with H.E.S.S. on four microquasars are presented. The techniques used to take and analyse this data are described in some detail using data taken on the Crab nebula as an example of a VHE 7-ray emitter, before the analysis results for observations of GRS 1915+105, Circinus X-1, GX 339-4 and V4641 Sgr are presented. A novel method for manufacturing aluminum mirrors suitable for use on ground based 7-ray telescopes is described in detail along with the testing techniques used. The next generation telescope, H.E.S.S. Phase II is then described briefly. The thesis concludes with a brief outline of future work to be conducted, based on the SSC model, as applied to microquasars. A proposal for observations of IGR J19140+0951, which was tentatively detected in the field of GRS 1915+105, is outlined.

Resumen
Diffusive shock acceleration operating at expanding supernova remnant shells is by far the most popular model for the origin of galactic cosmic rays. Despite the general consensus received by the model, an unambiguous and conclusive proof of the supernova remnant hypothesis is still missing. In this context, the recent developments in gamma ray astronomy provide us with precious insights into the problem of the origin of galactic cosmic rays, since production of gamma rays is expected both during the acceleration of cosmic rays at supernova remnant shocks and during their subsequent propagation in the interstellar medium. In particular, the recent detection of a number of supernova remnants at TeV energies nicely fits with the model, but it still does not constitute a conclusive proof of it, mainly due to the difficulty of disentangling the hadronic and leptonic contributions to the observed gamma ray emission. The main goal of my research is to search for an unambiguous and conclusive observational test for proving (or disproving) the idea that supernova remnants are the sources of galactic cosmic rays with energies up to (at least) the cosmic ray knee. Our present comprehension of the mechanisms of particle acceleration at shocks and of the propagation of cosmic rays in turbulent magnetic fields encourages beliefs that such a conclusive test might come from future observations of supernova remnants and of the Galaxy in the almost unexplored domain of multi-TeV gamma rays.

Resumen
The energy spectra, multiplicities and average energies of the prompt, total and delayed γ-rays accompanying the spontaneous fission of 252Cf were collected from the literature and dedicated databases. They were carefully analysed for consistency with a view to producing reference data for usage in various applications. This could be accomplished for the prompt fission gamma ray spectrum up to 20 MeV since dozens of measurements exist and reasonably agree. The prompt fission gamma ray spectrum (PFGS) was non-model evaluated by fitting the preselected experimental data with the help of the generalized least-squares (GLS) code GMA. The resulting spectrum could be considered as a reference for the γ-ray energies from 0.1 to 20 MeV with uncertainties varying between ≈ 3 and 25%. This reference gamma spectrum will be a substantial contribution to the precise and complete characterisation of the 252Cf source since the prompt fission neutron spectrum (PFNS), which has been accepted as a standard for a long time, has comparable uncertainties. The average gamma multiplicity and energy were also surveyed and used to derive the recommended values. The prompt X- and γ-ray energy spectra below ≈ 100 keV and delayed photon spectra in the whole energy range, as well as their multiplicities, are still seldomly and incompletely measured, that excepts an evaluation based on experimental data. The comparison with existing theoretical prompt and delayed 252Cf(s.f.) γ-spectra or with those presented in the major evaluated cross section libraries explored their incompleteness or deviations from the evaluated PFGS. The existing measurements of the pionic and muonic radioactivity of 252Cf(s.f.) and 235U(nth,f) were reviewed and the potential impact of gammas from the π0 decay on the high energy part of the PFGS was investigated.
