Resumen
The aim of this article is not only to reply to the points made in Newmeyer’s review of my Structure and function: A guide to three major structural-functional theories (S&F), but also to further discussion on relationships between functionalism and formalism. Functionalist claims about external motivation of the language system are discussed, and it is shown that there are very considerable differences between Chomsky’s recent discussion of external motivation and that in the functionalist and cognitivist/constructionist literature. It is pointed out that functional linguistics claims a motivational relationship between semantics and syntax rather than a purely interpretive one as in formalist theories, and that functionalists take a much wider view of what constitutes semantics. Furthermore, not only is there more direct connection between meanings and forms than Newmeyer claims, but also structural-functional theories invoke a second type of semantic motivation not involving one-to-one mapping. They also vary in the level of motivation they postulate. Recent work by Jackendoff and his colleagues is shown to present serious challenges to mainstream generativism and to make many claims which agree with those of functionalism and constructionism, so providing the possibility of interesting cross-fertilisation. Finally, it is pointed out that S&F agrees with Newmeyer that Functional Grammar and Role and Reference Grammar fail to attain fully their professed standards of adequacy.

Summary This paper traces the gradual abandonment of a functionalist perspective in labovian sociolinguistics. In an introductory point, the influence of French functionalism on William Labov, via Uriel Weinreich, is discussed. In the central part of the paper, Labov’s changing attitude towards functionalism is analysed, by distinguishing between different meanings of ‘functionalism’ and ‘functional’. It is shown how Labov gradually rejects the functionalist inspiration that was important in the beginning of his career. The reasons for this change in perspective, and its consequences, are examined. It is concluded that the rejection of the functionalist hypothesis does not affect the core of Labov’s work, which focuses on the correlation of social and linguistic structures. However, it leads to a very different conception of the nature of language variation and change.

This article examines the role played by functional approaches to linguistics in understanding second language acquisition (SLA). Central premises and tenets of functional approaches are described, and several key theoretical problems with functional efforts are detailed. The problem of referential management (the selection of nominal vs. pronominal NPs) in second language discourse production is examined. The general conclusions are drawn that (a) functional approaches to linguistics have a significant role to play in SLA studies, but (b) functional universals are insufficiently grounded theoretically and empirically at this point to contribute more than heuristic guidance to SLA theory.

Resumen
This thesis is presented as a contribution to the St Andrews School of Linguistics, Axiomatic Functionalism, as developed by Mulder and Hervey. It is essentially a piece of Theoretical Linguistics which outlines an approach to the hitherto undeveloped areas of Parasyntax and the Sentential Level in Axiomatic Functionalism. The theoretical arguments are supported by descriptive hypotheses concerning the nature of Spoken English. These descriptions are corpus-based. The conclusion reached by the author is that not only are Parasyntax and the Sentential Level distinct in theory (this is axiomatic), but they are also distinct in their application as regards methodology and description. This conclusion will undoubtedly prove to be controversial in the light of recent developments in Axiomatic Functionalism concerning the Postulates in particular (of which the author was at the time of writing unaware), and in the light of other Functionalist approaches to the nature of intonation and sentences. It is anticipated that this thesis will be of value to those interested in Functionalism as well as those concerned with intonation and the levels of language beyond syntax.

Esta pesquisa tem como propósito refletir sobre o fe nômeno da anáfora, tendo como recorte a anáfora encapsuladora, a partir do funcionamento de itens anafóricos identificados nos textos do gênero dissertativo. A presente investigação se apóia na Lingüística Textual, considerando os trabalhos já desenvolvidos pelos teóricos Apothéloz (1995), Marcuschi e Koch (2002) e Heine (2000). Esta hipótese de trabalho orienta-se por considerar o texto como objeto particular da investigação lingüística, por ser ele a forma específica de manifestação da linguagem. A anáfora encapsuladora nesse estudo será entendida como um tipo de expressão referencial que sumariza uma porção textual (ou o discurso) e não será considerada como um referente na acepção clássica, pontual que postula uma relação de correspondência entre itens textuais. Dessa forma, a anáfora no presente trabalho, tende a uma concepção mais ampla do termo anafórico, considerando que a anáfora encapsuladora recupera porções textuais que serão ou que já estão sinalizadas no co(n)texto. Assim, a anáfora encapsuladora pode ter seu funcionamento na rotulação, sumarização ou recuperação do discurso.

Resumen
Turner syndrome (TS) is a genetic disorder that affects only females. Its main symptoms are a short stature and gonadal dysgenesis. Such genetically determined physical characteristics impact the positioning of TS women in discourses of femininity, health, and illness, as well as in social relationships. This study aims to uncover and explore the social linguistic identities of women with this condition. The analysis draws on premises of ‘the narrative practice’ framework developed by Michael Bamberg (1997, 2005, 2011, 2012, 2020), who claims that in interaction, narrative is not only used to convey meaning, but also to construct the identities of the interlocutors. The linguistic analysis of narratives delivered by Polish women with TS in semi-structured interviews should reveal the extent to which the interviewees enact the creation of or become their identities, the extent to which they align with or distance from others, and the extent to which their identities change or remain constant over the years of hormonal therapy. I draw on functionalism to discuss these narratives, in which their formal structure and content are integrally associated with their use.

Large billboards, advertisements, traffic signs with text, commercial signs or inscriptions on the walls in cities and towns have the form of multimodal texts. They show a number of formal features that affect the functionality of urban texts. Some of them we pay more attention to, others we overlook. Multimodal texts that are located in a certain urban space and help to shape its entirety are treated in the approach of linguistic landscapes. They influence the communicative perception of a certain space and the identification with this space by different social groups. Since the forms of texts in public space determine their specific functions, I intend to show the common and different functionalities of city texts, starting from the formal structure. The analysis is based on the theoretical approach of media linguistic landscapes by Schmitz (2018) and the analysis model by Androutsopoulos/Kuhlee (2021). The text corpus and individual photos come from Berlin and Dresden (July 2021) as well as Warsaw and Wrocław (May/June 2021).

Resumen
In this paper, the theoretical and methodological changes that determine Greek folklore in the first two decades of the 21st century are examined. Also, I include the collaboration and the fruitful dialogue of folklore with the social anthropology in Greece, and its scientific results. The study of folk culture, as established by older folklorists, focused on cultural continuities, for reasons amply discussed in the relevant bibliography. However, the perception of cultural transformation in the area of folk culture also led to the study of a series of exemplary modern or postmodern phenomena from contemporary or modern folklore, where the correlation with the historical, social and cultural parameters now became mandatory. Therefore, the dominant concept of cultural differentiation was introduced to the fields of folklore and ethnography, too, especially in the form of the study of modernist (and, as a rule, urban) phenomena. The older forms of Greek folklore relate to the agro-livestock economy of the societies that gave birth to and ‘consumed’ them. This paper refers to Greek popular culture, both in the traditional and in modern and popular forms and expressions. In any case, ‘tradition’ constitutes the basis of folk culture events, with regards to the concepts of the symbolic functionality of ritual forms and the strategies for acquiring social prestige, where the latter is often the driving force of the various folklore events. Indeed, social prestige is often the connective link of each commune, a fact repeated up to the present, despite the changes in the traditional communes’ social base and status.

Resumen
According to international standards, the official language of a nation state represents an element of national security, as well as the symbolism of the state, along with the flag, coat of arms, anthem and other national symbols. Language is the guarantor of a company's functionality. The current reality demonstrates the increasing degree of state involvement in the most diverse processes: social, cultural, economic, educational, etc. The language policy of a state is represented by a set of laws, rules and guidelines adopted by the state authorities in relation to the language or languages existing or used on the territory of that country. This includes the adoption of an official language, determines its learning, the status of minority languages as well as the attitude of reporting and protecting the language against the influence of foreign cultures. In this vein, language has become for the political domain of a state an object, resource and means of control. Through language policies, adopted as administrative measures, the State administers linguistic pluralism.

Along with the wide spreading of internet communications new applications had emerged, which, step by step, eventually concluded not only in information transmission but in developing new command techniques and remote sensors data reading. This is made not only for scientific or industrial purposes but also to develop remote controlled educational laboratories . Internet telerobotics have emerged in recent decades, having direct control (a command is send directly to the actuators with no intervention by a computer [6]) and supervisory control (the computer processes the human command using its own programmed intelligence to determine the final command) as the main teleoperation paradigms. Both paradigms are difficult to be use in any applications which operate in an unstructured and dynamically changing environment, because none of them cannot assure adequate interaction sensing device to the human operator That is why many researchers try to find new ways to solve some of the issues or offer solutions for fault diagnosis in this field . Some researchers investigate how to develop mobile robot teleoperation systems that use existing wireless infrastructure and present the design and development of WAP-based system for such applications. The movement of the mobile robot is controlled by the operator through a mobile phone using for this the visual feedback from a video camera mounted on the robot. Other researchers are based on techniques like "abstract mobile agents". This approach provides the functionality of all other distributed computing systems in an undefined environment. This technique can provide multiple-robot system developers that can include a wide range of options for initial development and future extension, and also an intuitive and robust design environment. The authors have developed a new architecture for networked robots using mobile agents. They also investigate the feasibility of extending adaptability and fault-tolerance. The authors state that mobile agents offer many opportunities for the extension of functionality in multiple-robot systems. The authors describe some of the possibilities of using internet access for teleoperation, stating that many systems in this field are using HTTP together with gateway interface (CGI). A limitation for this method is a slow response speed. Another problem is that this system doesn't have a real-time remote control due to the fact that a complete HTML page has to be generated for each request, while the resulting page remains static.The researchers suggest a new type of interactive control "active supervisory control" paradigm. The developed application is used for Internet-based wheeled robot teleoperation. This system has two main components: a basic teleoperation system which uses a joystick commands, and an advanced teleoperation system which uses linguistic commands. Each command (from joystick or linguistic) is defined with multiple events and the corresponding response functions in designed to perform independent tasks. In this way is offered a friendly remote control system for robot navigating in an unknown and dynamic environment, enabling a natural design philosophy. In this paper an application related to web - based laboratory architecture is presented, which can be used in educational laboratories and can be easily extend for educational e-laboratories, too.

Resumen
The report considers the approach to the mechanism of interpretation of the oneiric content from the position of authentic psychotherapy: the basic elements of a dream, principles of the analysis of images, sources of psychogenesis of images. 174 "Authentic counseling is intended for any individual who is aware of being part of life, as this type of counseling belongs exclusively to the sphere of the individual. Counseling of this type is oriented to those people who feel a transcendent need, who in the face of a problem do not panic but transform it in a moment of growth" [A. Meneghetti]. The main goal of authentication psychotherapy is the identification, authentication and development of the client's personal ethics, which leads him/her to a recovery of responsibility in an existential sense and the need to realize their creative potential. Authentication means that the subject's logical-historical self has reached the necessary level of maturity to realize its ontic uniqueness. Authentic psychotherapy relies on six languages of the unconscious (linguistic anamnesis and historical biography, symptom or problem analysis, physiognomic-kinetic-proxemic analysis, oneiric analysis, semantic field and outcome), among which the oneiric language is one of the most important. From the point of view of ontopsychology, a dream is a set of figurative projections identifying the subject's real state in biological, psychological and ontic terms. The main elements (principles) on which the psychotherapist relies are: the causal cause of the symbol, the functionality of the action for the subject and the semantic criterion, which is one of the tools of ontopsychology. In the course of therapy, complete dreams are analyzed, in which it is possible to see both the current situation and the cause of it and the solution – a positive way out for the client's existential situation. The results of research of dynamics of changes of symbols in oneiric activity accompanying process of historical evolution of subjects during authentication psychotherapy have shown, that functional changes in a historical situation of the client undergoing authentication psychotherapy lead to functional changes of symbols of a dream. Conventionally they can be designated as images of: life, opportunity, freedom and natural metabolism. When a person is in a situation of historical non-functionality, symbols of moral and ideological order will prevail: authority, subordination, super-self, honors. In this way the oneiric analysis allows identifying and verbalizing the most important intention for the client, leading to sustainable success and health. В докладе рассматривается подход к механизму интерпретации онейрического содержания с позиции психотерапии аутентификации: основные элементы сновидения, принципы анализа образов, источники психогенеза образов. «Аутентифицирующее консультирование предназначено для любого индивида, который осознает себя частью жизни, так как этот вид консультирования относится исключительно к сфере личности. Консультирование такого типа ориентировано на тех людей, кто чувствует трансцендентную потребность, кто перед лицом проблемы не пасует, а преобразует ее в момент роста» [А. Менегетти]. Основная цель психотерапии аутентификации состоит в идентификации, аутентификации и развитии личной этики клиента, что приводит его к восстановлению ответственности в экзистенциальном смысле и необходимости реализации творческого потенциала. Аутентификация означает, что логико-историческое «Я» субъекта достигло необходимого уровня зрелости для реализации своей онтической уникальности. Психотерапия аутентификации опирается на шесть языков бессознательного (лингвистический анамнез и историческая биография, анализ симптома или проблемы, физиогномико-кинетико-проксемический анализ, онейрический анализ, семантическое поле и результат), среди которых онейрический язык является одним из важнейших. С точки зрения онтопсихологии, сновидение представляет собой совокупность образных проекций, идентифицирующих реальное состояние субъекта в биологическом, психологическом и онтическом плане. Основными элементами (принципами), на которые опирается психотерапевт, являются: каузальная причина символа, функциональность действия для субъекта и семантический критерий, являющийся одним из инструментов онтопсихологии. В процессе терапии анализируются полные сновидения, в которых можно увидеть как текущую ситуацию и причину ее вызывающую, так и решение – позитивный для экзистенциальной ситуации клиента выход. Результаты исследования динамики измененийсимволов онейрическойдеятельности, сопровождающих процесс историческойэволюции субъектов в ходе психотерапии аутентификации, показали, что функциональные изменения в исторической ситуации проходящего психотерапию аутентификации клиента приводят к функциональным изменениям символов сновидения. Условно они могут быть обозначены, как образы: жизни, возможностей, свободы, природосообразного метаболизма. Когда человек находится в ситуации исторической нефункциональности будут превалировать символы морально-идеологического порядка: авторитет, подчинение, сверх-Я, почести. Таким образом, онейрический анализ позволяет определять и вербализовывать наиболее важную для клиента интенцию, приводящую к устойчивому успеху и здоровью.
