Resumen
ObjectiveThere has not been a theoretical test run in Germany that compares different navigation systems with an industry solution (MapTrip112). The aim of this study was to compare navigation systems to elucidate whether the emergency response time (ERT) was reduced and, consequently, whether the adherence to the travel time improved.DesignProspective, simulation study, cross-sectional study.SettingOffices of the Institute of Occupational Medicine, Social Medicine and Environmental Medicine, Goethe University Frankfurt (60 590 Frankfurt am Main, Germany). The situation-adaptable industry navigation solution MapTrip112 was tested in its ‘Lights and Siren(s) (L&S)’ mode in comparison to the TomTom and Google Maps navigation systems. MapTrip112 was set to calculate a route that takes special emergency rights of way into account.Outcome measuresAll three navigation systems simultaneously calculated the distances and durations of fictitious routes. Three scenarios were tested: the University Hospital Frankfurt (60 596 Frankfurt am Main, Germany) and the Central Fire Station 1 (60435 Frankfurt am Main, Germany) served as the starting points for the urban routes, while the Odenwald Health Centre (64 711 Erbach, Germany) served as the starting point for rural routes. The routes’ endpoints were arbitrarily chosen locations inside the customary operational radius. The routes were selected for short and long distances as well as for different periods, including weekdays, weekends and evening rush hour (4–7 pm), in the German cities of Frankfurt am Main and Odenwaldkreis (Southern Hesse).ResultsThe time and distance were calculated for a total of 4650 trips. When comparing travel times and distances between rural and urban areas as well as between weekdays and weekends, statistically significant results were obtained (p<0.001). With time advantages ranging from 23.5 s to 300.5 s (4.75% to 50% of the travel time) on weekdays and weekends, MapTrip112 consistently outperformed both TomTom and Google Maps. For city missions, MapTrip112 achieved time gains of up to 50% over its competitors, with significant advantages during the rush hours and around specific locations such as the University Hospital Frankfurt and Fire Station 1.ConclusionMapTrip112 always achieved the fastest routes although these were not always accompanied by a shortened distance. These findings underscore MapTrip112’s superiority in providing efficient routing solutions across various scenarios. For this reason, the use of this software should be considered in practice and investigated in real-world conditions in further studies.

Resumen
Abstract The Pliocene flora of Frankfurt am Main described by Karl Mädler during the first half of the twentieth century is a key flora for the European Pliocene. In the present study, we revised the leaf fossil taxa described by Mädler and investigated plant material collected after Mädler’s publication. The revised and augmented floral list comprises seven new species and some new combinations of taxa described by Mädler. In total, 16 gymnosperm species in 15 genera and 73 angiosperm species (of which 15 could not be assigned to a genus) in 40 genera are recognised in the leaf record. Main characteristics of the flora are the high diversity of conifers, the diverse assemblage of exclusively deciduous Fagaceae, including six species of oaks, and the high diversity of Rosaceae. These features indicate cool temperate climatic conditions (comparable to Lugano in southern Switzerland). Angiosperm genera that are today confined to North America and/or East Asia (Eucommia, Magnolia and Sassafras) also are deciduous, whereas evergreen taxa are shrubs typical of the understorey (Buxus, Ilex, Pachysandra, Prunus lusitanica type) and Viscum. Eighteen taxa recorded in the Pliocene of Frankfurt am Main are today absent from western Eurasia and eastern North America, and 25 taxa are absent from western North America. This shows (i) a strong biogeographic link of the Pliocene flora of Frankfurt am Main with East Asia, (ii) surprisingly high levels of speciation (Pliocene endemisms) and (iii) that the European flora was more diverse in woody species shortly before the onset of major Pleistocene glaciations than today.

Resumen
In the framework of a German Research Foundation Grant (DFG-LIS), the Hunsrueck Slate and Fossil Brachiopod collections of the Senckenberg Museum are the subject of a curatorial upgrade, including electronic cataloguing and imaging in the web-based Senckenberg Collection Management System (SeSam). One of the main objectives is to make object data and images available to researchers worldwide. The famous Hunsrueck Slate Collection comprises more than 1,500 excellently preserved fossils from the Lower Devonian of Germany. It is supplemented by an x-ray collection consisting of almost 7,600 negatives mainly of Hunsrueck Slate fossils. All object data, images of the Hunsrueck Slate fossils and x-ray negatives have been made available on the internet. With about 900,000 fossil brachiopod specimens, the Senckenberg collection is one of the largest of its kind. Voucher specimens from this collection are also recorded in SeSam. By these concrete examples, the properties of this web-based collection management system are briefly described.

Resumen
Although in the German Empire the cities were major strongholds of political liberalism, this fact has until very recently attracted little attention from scholars preoccupied with the history of 'high politics' leading up to the two World Wars. This thesis is one of the first analyses of German liberalism at city level, and proceeds from the assumption that in a country with such a regionally and locally diverse political culture as Germany, this type of 'history from below' is a necessary precondition for any satisfactory understanding of the nature of German liberalism in general. Following the introduction, chapter two demonstrates that in Frankfurt, local government became politicised as early as the 1870s. Indeed, chapter three shows how the early experience of Frankfurt liberals in municipal politics was crucial as they defended themselves against emerging political groups during the following decades, particularly the Mittelstand and the SPD. The fourth chapter analyses the development of liberal attitudes towards municipal finance as a background to chapter five which uses the example of Frankfurt to demonstrate how crucial the issue of municipal finance was to the viability of local liberalism not just in theory, but also in practice. Chapter six considers the importance of education to local liberalism as it touched on a number of themes which were central to urban liberals' understanding of themselves, in particular the issues of local self-government and religion. The final chapter looks at the crucial area of social policy, to see to what extent local liberals were merely reactive, and to what extent they were innovative as they faced the new problems of urbanisation and industrialisation. The sophistication of liberal politics in local government, the only level of government where liberals were in the position of carrying out their policies, underlines the gravity of the problem which the lack of parliamentary government posed for liberals at the state and national level. Furthermore, the thesis points to a central dilemma, because, to be successful in Frankfurt and other regions, liberals had to respond to the particular culture at the local level, a requirement that was in direct contrast to the necessity of finding a coherent political consensus at the level of national and state politics. Even though at the local level the liberal capacity of responding to the social and political challenges of their rapidly changing environment has been proved beyond doubt, their policies, their rhetoric and their organisational lead could have only a very limited effect on German liberalism in general. The urban liberals' ideal of creating a more liberal society from 'the bottom up', through the cities, was undermined by the fact that the political future of German liberalism at the state and national level came to rest increasingly on its electoral appeal in the countryside, just at a time when urban liberal self-consciousness reached its peak.

This research emphasizes the significance of multifunctionality in urban green space planning practice and builds an analytical framework of multifunctionality for the holistic interpretation of the studied case, the Greenbelt Frankfurt am Main. Multifunctionality has been widely used in the context of urban green space planning practice and evaluation in recent years. It is considered as a key characteristic in several contemporary concepts like Green Infrastructure, Ecosystem Services and Landscape Planning. However, the applied range and meaning of the term is becoming too broad while the specific definition is still an elusive description. With the spreading of the new concepts and the transition of urban green space planning to a more critical role, the lack of clarification of this term may lead further confusion and misuse. This research aims at the clarification and application of multifunctionality in the context of urban green space planning practice, as a necessary entry point for the future researches on urban green infrastructure planning. Based on literature review on the development of related topics, this study argues that most component functions of multifunctionality have long traditions in planning history and multifunctionality is more about a new holistic perspective instead of a new term; moreover, the ecosystem services should be seen as the theoretical base for multifunctionality because it provides so far the most rational and overall classification for the component functions as well as multiple analyzing approaches; furthermore, the interactions among functions are the unignorable parts of multifunctionality and distinguish it from only multiple functions. In a word, multifunctionality is a comprehensive status of urban green space and represents the overall performance of the place. Thus it is not comparable between different contexts but can be used as a framework for the holistic understanding of urban green space. Based on the theoretical study, an analytical framework is built and applied on the Greenbelt in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The methodology combines both semi-quantitative and qualitative approaches and targets on the analyses in both planning process and land use performance status, to discuss how multifunctionality of urban green space is influenced by planning efforts. The results on urban level analyses illustrate that the spatial distribution of functions in reality is quite uneven while the main planning efforts were made without specific focus. These results together indicate the mismatch of supply and demand of multifunctionality in the Greenbelt. Furthermore, at local level, three cases are used for the in-depth discussion of interactions between functions. They point out the significant role of positive synergy effects on the efficient delivering of multifunctionality, as well as illustrate possible ways to generate such positive effects. The overall result of case study clearly indicates the advances and potential directions for the future development of Greenbelt. Multifunctionality is a significant term for the holistic interpretation and systematical analyses of the urban green space. In this study, it has been proved to be a useful framework to understand the functions and interactions from the perspective of human-nature system, as well as to provide insights for the features of current development, which is critical for the future. As a term that has connected multiple topics and has been applied in both theoretical researches and planning practice, multifunctionality has further potential in assisting the development of urban green space, especially in urban Green Infrastructure Planning.

Hoffmann, Thomas. "Jüngerschaft und Gemeinde: eine praktisch-theologische Studie uber die Erziehung zur Nachfolge in evangelikal-freikirchlichen Gemeinden im postmodern-urbanen Umfeld (Discipleship and the local church: a practical-theological study of education to discipleship in evangelical free churches in a postmodern urban milieu)". Resumen
The subject of this study is Christian education in the church. This practical-theological work starts from the premise of the relevance of a commitment experience for the faith development of the individual and studies the formats and contents of continuing formal faith education of young Christians in evangelical free churches in a postmodern-urban milieu in Frankfurt. Its aim is to find out how well the New Testament discipleship topics of Jesus are integrated into the faith education in the church, and what reception difficulties and chances they experience in regard to the Zeitgeist. Are the New Testament discipleship topics still the basic guidelines with regard to content? The relationship between faith development, faith education and the local church is presented within a religion- and church-pedagogical approach and a connection to education for discipleship is made. The biblical premise is the discipleship commission of Jesus (Mt 28:18-20) and its church-pedagogical reply.

Until the end of 20th century new big office buildings in Germany – even in the central business district CBD – didn’t provide any or much too less facilities for bicycle parking. Since then the already existing state and municipal regulations have been enforced and new ones exist which define the mandatory number of bicycle parking lots for new office buildings. But now it can be seen that too many lots are required, the real demand is in many cases – and will be in the foreseeable future – much lower. With data from EU and German sources the situation in the Frankfurt am Main CBD is described: political goals for sustainable traffic by enforcing bicycle usage; municipal regulations for the number of bicycle parking facilities; comparison between (politically defined) requirements and the expected real demand. Today’s and future modal-split data for bike usage at office buildings from empirical traffic surveys and assumptions in Frankfurt are presented. Examples of bicycle parking facilities for already existing and planned office buildings in Frankfurt are provided, showing as result a compromise between city’s regulation and the expected demand for bicycle lots.

Resumen
In Germany, traffic planning still follows the tradition of modernist urban planning theory from the beginning of the 1930s and car-oriented city planning during the post-war period in West Germany. From a methodological perspective, the prevailing narrative is that traffic can be abstracted and modelled under laboratory conditions (in vitro) as a spatial movement process of individual neutral particles. The use of these laboratory experiments in traffic planning cannot be understood as a neutral application of experimental results, assumed to be true, in a variety of spatial contexts. Rather, it is an active practice of staging traffic according to a particular social interactionist paradigm. According to this, traffic is staged through interventions in planning authorities as well as the practices of people on the streets. In order to describe these staging conduits, traffic is ontologically thought of as a social order that is continuously reproduced situationally through interactions, following Erving Goffman and Harold Garfinkel. To investigate the staging conduits empirically, an ethnographic-inspired field study was conducted at Willy-Brandt-Platz in Frankfurt am Main in May and June 2020. Through situational mapping and observation of social interactions (in situ), knowledge about the staging of social orders was generated. These empirical findings are further embedded in debates that discuss traffic not only as a staging but also as an enactment of certain realities. Understanding planning practice as a political enactment, through which realities are not only described but also made, makes it possible for us to think and design alternative realities.
